1st (1) (4/7 +59%) Lunar Discovery |
4/7(+59%) | (1) Lunar Discovery 4/7, Above-average dual winner in bumpers and opened her account at the first time of asking in this sphere over C&D 33 days ago. More to come and makes plenty of appeal. Two-time bumper winner who scored over C&D on hurdle debut; leading claims under penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (15/8 -25%) Smurfette |
15/8(-25%) | (5) Smurfette 15/8, Fair form in 2 bumpers last season and made an encouraging start to her hurdle career when fourth of 17 at Warwick (2m, heavy) on reappearance 5 weeks ago, unable to sustain effort after travelling well. A bold show looks assured with improvement on the cards. Fourth on hurdle debut at Warwick; that form reads well and she's open to improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (12/1 -33%) Princess Of Mercia |
12/1(-33%) | (4) Princess Of Mercia 12/1, £15,000 3-y-o, Blue Bresil mare. Half-sister to fairly useful chaser Party Fuzz. Wears tongue strap. Worth a market check for in-form stable. Makes debut in a tongue-tie; in good hands and one of three for yard; betting may guide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (22/1 -38%) Vive De Charnie |
22/1(-38%) | (6) Vive De Charnie 22/1, Ran to a fair level in a brace of bumpers for Jamie Snowden 10 months apart. Low-key start over hurdles for this yard at Newcastle, however, and might be more of a handicap type. Headgear goes on. Well beaten last month but after absence; the first-time hood & drop back in trip may help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (100/1 -203%) It's For You Mum |
100/1(-203%) | (2) It's For You Mum 100/1, Well held on her only start in bumpers and similar story on completed outing over hurdles. Hard to fancy. She's been a well-beaten sixth on both completed starts. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Lunar Discovery justified favouritism on her hurdling debut over C&D and should have plenty more to come, but she could find it difficult to give her 7lb penalty away to SMURFETTE. The daughter of Blue Bresil showed plenty of promise to finish fourth at Warwick and she would have learned a great deal from that experience, so it would be no surprise to see her get off the mark. Any market confidence behind Princess Of Mercia on her first outing would be of interest.
LUNAR DISCOVERY overcame mistakes to make a successful start in this sphere over C&D and, with her jumping likely to be sharper this time, she's worth chancing to defy a penalty. Smurfette is an obvious threat having shaped nicely at Warwick recently and March Wind can feature if she takes to the new discipline.
Two-time bumper winner LUNAR DISCOVERY scored on heavy ground over C&D last month and is taken to make it 2-2 over hurdles.

1st (5) (13/8 +28%) Breeze Of Wind |
13/8(+28%) | (5) Breeze Of Wind 13/8, Didn't trouble the judge in a trio of runs over hurdles for Barry Murtagh but he's a point winner and showed a lot more on chasing/stable debut at Carlisle on return. Backed that up when 2¾ lengths second to Bebside Banter at Sedgefield and 3 lb better off with that rival here. Winning Irish pointer who has run creditably on both runs over fences; one with a chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (17/2 +47%) Monaghan Boy |
17/2(+47%) | (8) Monaghan Boy 17/2, Fair in bumpers but hasn't got anywhere near that level in 7 attempts over hurdles and little promise on chase bow/return. Poor form so far including on chase debut at Catterick last month; improvement needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (16/1 -60%) Carrigeen Castle |
16/1(-60%) | (2) Carrigeen Castle 16/1, Just poor form over hurdles in Ireland and likely needed the run on first outing for new yard at Kelso on return. Ex-pointer who may do better in this sphere but others probably better handicapped. Ex-Irish; point winner in February; low-key run over hurdles on stable debut; chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (7/1 +0%) Torosay |
7/1(+0%) | (4) Torosay 7/1, Lightly-raced maiden who progressed with each start over hurdles last term. May have needed outing when eleventh of 19 in handicap at Carlisle on return and warrants respect on switch to chasing. Maiden; disappointing run over hurdles on reappearance but may improve now going chasing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (7/1 +42%) Noble Affair |
7/1(+42%) | (1) Noble Affair 7/1, Opened account in handicap hurdle here in April and, after 5 months off, posted a good second back here in October. Well held next 2 starts, however, so bit to prove switched to fences. Course winner over hurdles in April; mixed form since (below par latest); chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (9/4 -13%) Bebside Banter |
9/4(-13%) | (7) Bebside Banter 9/4, 17/2, career best when winning 7-runner handicap chase at Sedgefield (heavy) on debut over fences 27 days ago by 2¾ lengths from Breeze of Wind, jumping well. Should go well again. Jumped well when beating Breeze Of Wind on chase debut at Sedgefield; obvious contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (25/1 +0%) Zara's Universe |
25/1(+0%) | (6) Zara's Universe 25/1, Took a couple of handicap chases at the end of last season but had winning run ended at Newcastle in May. Probably needed the run back over hurdles after 6 months off at Sedgfield 2 weeks ago. 2-5 over fences, all at around 2m; tailed off over hurdles on comeback; first run at 2m4f. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BEBSIDE BANTER denied odds-on favourite Breeze Of Wind by just under three lengths on his first start after wind surgery at Sedgefield. The six-year-old is now 3lb worse off, but should have more to offer on only his second chase start and can confirm that form to record a double. Breeze Of Wind is still the main threat and could get a little closer. Of the remainder, Artic Mann makes most appeal on his return to fences.
BEBSIDE BANTER looked a natural over fences when beating Breeze of Wind at Sedgefield 4 weeks ago and he can confirm the placings despite a 3 lb swing. Artic Mann looks best of the others.
Modest over hurdles, BEBSIDE BANTER looks a better chaser and is taken to beat Breeze Of Wind and Artic Mann.

1st (5) (4/1 +33%) Juge Et Parti |
4/1(+33%) | (5) Juge Et Parti 4/1, Well below his best for the most part last season but mark has dipped as a result and he showed he's returned from 7 months off in reasonable form when second of 8 over C&D 21 days ago. The task is to build on that now. Winning chaser/hurdler at up to 3m; good run on comeback over C&D latest; should go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (15/2 +46%) Teescomponentstrig |
15/2(+46%) | (3) Teescomponentstrig 15/2, Opened his account in good style in 3m Newcastle handicap hurdle in January 2020 but only seen 3 times since, finishing last of 9 at Kelso on last month's return from a whopping 697 days off. Entitled to strip fitter but can still only watch. Lightly raced since 2020 Newcastle win; well beaten after long break latest; bit to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (6/5 +4%) Zwicky |
6/5(+4%) | (4) Zwicky 6/5, Highly progressive handicap hurdler around 2½m, winning at Sedgefield and Carlisle under Sean Quinlan in October. Progressed again when length third of 15 at Doncaster 26 days ago and the one to beat. Only third last time having won his two previous races and is one with a chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (7/1 +56%) Halpha Soleil |
7/1(+56%) | (7) Halpha Soleil 7/1, Successful twice in French bumpers (tongue tied second time) but only modest form over hurdles for this yard in the spring. Still early in his hurdle career but watching brief advised on return unless the betting hints otherwise. Dual bumper winner; fair run on h'cap debut over C&D last time; no easy task after a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (4/1 +38%) Beaumesnil |
4/1(+38%) | (6) Beaumesnil 4/1, Went close in a 2m course novice hurdle in June. Bit better than the result when fourth of 6 on 16.5f Market Rasen handicap debut in July. Returns from a 5-month break with unexposed potential. Fair fourth on handicap debut latest (2m); not a certain stayer back up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (16/1 -167%) Applaus |
16/1(-167%) | (2) Applaus 16/1, Untrustworthy individual. Came in last of 5 in 2m handicap here 21 days ago but had been a creditable third at Carlisle prior to that. Has been placed over C&D but all wins at 2m1f or less; on last winning mark; a possible. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
JUGE ET PARTI returned from a 196-day break to finish second over C&D last month and he is now 2lb higher for that effort. James Ewart's 10-year-old remains well treated on his best form, though, and can record his seventh career victory. Zwicky is in great heart and was far from disgraced when third at Doncaster. He will be dangerous, while Beaumesnil is the least exposed in this field and could also have a say on only his second handicap start.
ZWICKY is a handicapper going the right way and can resume winning ways with Sean Quinlan back in the saddle. Paddy The Horse should be sharper for his chase reappearance and is now 3 lb lower than when winning a handicap here last season so he's second choice ahead of the low-mileage Beaumesnil.
Although beaten last time, ZWICKY is progressive sort with form on slow ground and is taken to beat Juge Et Parti.

1st (2) (9/2 +18%) Event Of Sivola |
9/2(+18%) | (2) Event Of Sivola 9/2, Won a marathon contest here just over a year ago and shaped as if back in form when fourth of 8 in handicap chase at Newcastle (23.4f, good to soft) 20 days ago. Perhaps more effective over further nowadays but he should give another good account. Patchy form since winning here last November but he's on a handy mark and not discounted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (11/4 +21%) Gibberwell |
11/4(+21%) | (7) Gibberwell 11/4, Got off the mark over fences over C&D in April and narrowly failed to land another gamble here last month. 4 lb higher in the weights now but can't be ruled out. Inconsistent but has run really well on both visits here and he's firmly in calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (9/1 +25%) Don Brocco |
9/1(+25%) | (4) Don Brocco 9/1, Modest winning hurdler shaped as if in need of a greater test of stamina when sixth of 8 in handicap chase at Newcastle (23.4f, good to soft, 14/1) on debut over fences 20 days ago. Others preferred. His form went the wrong way over hurdles and he was only sixth on recent chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (9/1 +18%) Dark Duomo |
9/1(+18%) | (6) Dark Duomo 9/1, Plodded into a modest second in a handicap hurdle at Warwick on his final outing last term for Philip Hobbs & Johnson White. Got no further than the second on chase/stable debut and others make more appeal. 5yo whose hurdle form has been modest; claims aren't particularly compelling now chasing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (5/1 +29%) Faith Loving |
5/1(+29%) | (1) Faith Loving 5/1, Fit from points when winning 8-runner handicap chase at Fairyhouse (24.5f, heavy), looking more straightforward than has sometimes been the case and rallying to lead on line. Not in same form at Punchestown 9 days later but might have found that run coming too soon. Won at Fairyhouse last month and subsequent run at Punchestown may have come too soon. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (8) (10/3 +17%) Eveque |
10/3(+17%) | (8) Eveque 10/3, Stepped up on his reappearance run when third of 8 in handicap chase at Newcastle (23.4f, good to soft, 13/2) 20 days ago, keeping on late after a ponderous round of jumping. Needs a couple of these to falter. 9yo who remains a maiden but has run some good races and might not be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (16/1 +0%) One For Dan |
16/1(+0%) | (5) One For Dan 16/1, Off the mark in points at the fifth attempt before finishing down the field on stable debut in a handicap chase at Catterick (19.2f, good to soft) 19 days ago. Possible he'll do better in this sphere but efforts under Rules so far have been uninspiring. Lightly raced point winner; one to watch in the betting, but well beaten on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (28/1 -12%) Glenavaddra |
28/1(-12%) | (9) Glenavaddra 28/1, Point winner but has shown nothing in 5 runs under Rules. Long way out of the weights here and needs to prove a different proposition now chasing. Showed next to nothing over hurdles, but he's a point winner; a betting check is advised. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Runner-up on his latest appearance over C&D and a winner here in April, GIBBERWELL should not be inconvenienced by heavy ground and appears to have lots in his favour. He is preferred to Ballylinch, who has made an excellent start to his chasing career and can give the selection the most to think about. Faith Loving is another to consider if bouncing back to the form of last month's success at Fairyhouse.
BALLYLINCH has made a good start to his chasing career and he appeals as the likeliest winner over Gibberwell, who almost landed his second C&D gamble last month and similar market strength behind him would be most notable. Event of Sivola can complete the placings.
James Bowen's mount GIBBERWELL (nap) has run really well on both visits to Hexham and he earns the vote ahead of Ballylinch.

1st (3) (7/2 -115%) Rock Danse |
7/2(-115%) | (3) Rock Danse 7/2, Hinted at better to come at some stage on his belated Rules debut at Chepstow in October. Duly stepped up on that when finding just one too good in a 7-runner Uttoxeter maiden (2½m, heavy) last time and he remains open to improvement. Runner-up at Uttoxeter last month and he's one to consider for in-form yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (11/8 +50%) Rowdy Romeo |
11/8(+50%) | (4) Rowdy Romeo 11/8, Fair maiden hurdler in Ireland and wasn't disgraced when fifth in a big-field Navan handicap last month. Looks sure to be in the mix but perhaps vulnerable to one or two of the less exposed types. Yet to win but consistent in Ireland and his form reads well in today's context. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (5/1 +17%) Boy De La Vis |
5/1(+17%) | (1) Boy De La Vis 5/1, Showed form in points and reasonable start under Rules when third in a bumper at Warwick for Robin Dickin in April 2022. Built on that when winning one at Newcastle (16.2f, good to soft) on debut for new yard last December and needs considering now upped in trip for this hurdles bow. Won Newcastle bumper last December after a break; respected on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (11/4 -46%) The Village Way |
11/4(-46%) | (6) The Village Way 11/4, Half-brother to bumper winner/useful hurdler Crambo. Runner-up both starts in Irish points and well clear of the rest when runner-up at Wetherby (2m, heavy) a fortnight ago, leaving the impression that this stiffer test would be a catalyst for improvement. Good shout. Runner-up in both points and on recent hurdle debut at Wetherby; likely player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (25/1 +62%) Nearly Wed |
25/1(+62%) | (2) Nearly Wed 25/1, Runner-up twice in Irish points but shaped like a longer-term project when well held ninth on hurdles bow at Wetherby. Two-time point runner-up, but well beaten at 33-1 on last month's rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (150/1 -50%) Samillier |
150/1(-50%) | (5) Samillier 150/1, Ninth of 10 in bumper at Newcastle on debut/sole start for Mark Walford last December and hasn't shown much in 3 starts between the flags since. Well beaten on debut in bumper last December & has also struggled in point-to-points since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
This can go the way of THE VILLAGE WAY, who must be open to plenty of improvement on the step up in trip after a highly encouraging second on debut at Wetherby. The dual point-to-point runner-up gets the vote ahead of the experienced Rowdy Romeo and Rock Danse, who took a step in the right direction when second at Uttoxeter over this distance last month.
THE VILLAGE WAY shaped as though in need of the experience when chasing home a race-fit rival at Wetherby on his Rules debut and, with that pipe-opener under his belt and this stiffer test sure to suit, he looks the way to go. Rock Danse gets the nod for forecast purposes ahead of Irish raider Rowdy Romeo and bumper winner Boy de La Vis.
Jimmy Moffatt can ready one after an absence and bumper winner BOY DE LA VIS gets the nod on his first hurdle start.

1st (6) (4/1 +80%) Heeztheboy |
4/1(+80%) | (6) Heeztheboy 4/1, Hasn't offered a great deal in a bumper/over hurdles to date and 9 lb wrong at the weights for this chase debut. Ordinary form in a bumper and three novice hurdles; 9lb out of the handicap; chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (7/2 -100%) Travail D'Orfevre |
7/2(-100%) | (1) Travail D'Orfevre 7/2, Bumper winner who opened account over hurdles at Kelso in April 2022. Placed all 3 starts following a wind op in second half of last season, and picked up where he left off in the spring when holding on gamely at Carlisle (2m, soft) in October. Up just 3 lb and leading claims. Off the mark on seventh run over fences at Carlisle last time (Cudgel 4th); up 3lb; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (3/1 +45%) Cudgel |
3/1(+45%) | (5) Cudgel 3/1, All 6 career wins have been gained here, including back-to-back C&D victories during the spring. Respectable efforts both starts this season, beaten 3 lengths when fourth to Travail d'Orfevre at Carlisle last time, and likely to get closer to that rival on 4 lb better terms back here. All six wins have been here, the last two over C&D; two good runs in October; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (11/1 -100%) Treshnish |
11/1(-100%) | (3) Treshnish 11/1, Decisive C&D winner off a 6 lb higher mark last November. Largely laboured performances since but perhaps the change of scenery (debut for new yard) will have perked him up and he's very dangerous to discount given that he's won all 4 completed starts at Hexham. Ex-Sue Smith; last four wins have been over C&D; now on a career-low mark; stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (10/3 -67%) Doyouknowwhatimean |
10/3(-67%) | (2) Doyouknowwhatimean 10/3, Best effort over hurdles when fourth at Southwell on his handicap bow in April and matched that form on his chase debut when filling the same position at Chepstow (23.6f, heavy) in November. Not so good next time but will be a threat if on-song and assuming he copes with this drop back in trip. 0-10; two fair runs over fences last month (2m7f/2m4f); quite interesting down in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (6/1 +25%) Augharue |
6/1(+25%) | (4) Augharue 6/1, Shaped best on his second chase start when going close over C&D in October, looking in control until 13-month absence told near finish. Pulled up at Kelso next time, though, then well held when falling at the last upped to 23.4f at Newcastle. 0-10; not been at his best on last two starts but chance on his C&D second in October. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
TRAVAIL D'ORFEVRE landed a first victory over fences when getting up to win on his reappearance at Carlisle in October, and a 3lb rise might not be enough to prevent the seven-year-old from going in again. Doyouknowwhatimean drops in distance from 2m4f having finished third at Uttoxeter last month and Dan Skelton's charge isn't taken lightly, while six-time course winner Cudgel always requires a second look at this venue.
TRAVAIL D'ORFEVRE took a step forward when scoring at Carlisle and, with his yard among the winners and further progress not out of the question, he is taken to follow up. He's up against two course specialists in Cudgel and Treshnish, mind, with the former, who was fourth behind the selection at Carlisle and now 4 lb better off for a three-length beating, feared most. Doyouknowwhatimean arguably possesses the greatest potential of these but this drop back in trip is of dubious benefit.
This course is ideal forCUDGEL, who had two decent runs to his credit in the autumn and is taken to beat Travail D'Orfevre.

1st (1) (11/2 -83%) My Last Oscar |
11/2(-83%) | (1) My Last Oscar 11/2, Well treated and returned from 7 months off with a respectable third at Warwick last month. Should be sharper for that, so well worthy of respect dropping in grade. 3m winner in 2022; not run as well since, although fair third last time (3m2f); chance. |

2nd (7) (5/1 -82%) You Say Its Over |
5/1(-82%) | (7) You Say Its Over 5/1, Still looking for first success but ran up to best when second of 8 in handicap hurdle over C&D 33 days ago. May yet do better and is likely to be on the premises. 0-10 but good second (in front of Cowboy Copper) over C&D last month; should go well. |

3rd (6) (7/4 +47%) Cowboy Cooper |
7/4(+47%) | (6) Cowboy Cooper 7/4, Stable is going well and he upped his form when third over C&D a month ago. Should strip fitter for that and boasts solid claims. Eight-race maiden; good third over C&D on reappearance and a possible.. |

4th (2) (3/1 +25%) Velasco |
3/1(+25%) | (2) Velasco 3/1, Back on form earlier this year, confirming previous encouragement when landing a 7-runner handicap here in June. Creditable return at Newcastle 20 days and is expected to give another good account. Point winner; C&D winner in June and decent third at Newcastle last time; chance. |

5th (4) (12/1 -20%) Dequall |
12/1(-20%) | (4) Dequall 12/1, Course winner. Fifteen runs since last win in 2021. 14/1, eighth of 10 in handicap hurdle at Newcastle (23.7f, good to soft) 20 days ago. Others make more appeal. Three wins over hurdles, latest in March 2021; poor run last time and a bit to prove. |

|PU| (3) (17/2 +74%) One Fer Mamma |
17/2(+74%) | (3) One Fer Mamma 17/2, Resumed with encouraging third at Haydock last season but left Matt Sheppard after finishing fifth at Warwick in December and well below par so far for current yard. Hard to fancy after 9 months off. Chase/hurdles winner for Matt Sheppard; below par in two runs in 2023; others stronger. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
YOU SAY ITS OVER produced a much-improved effort when runner-up over C&D last month and a breakthrough triumph could await Micky Hammond's mare off only 1lb higher in the ratings. Cowboy Cooper was just under a length behind the selection on that occasion and he must enter calculations too, although a bigger threat may emerge from Velasco, who posted a respectable third on his reappearance at Newcastle recently.
COWBOY COOPER has solid claims if building on his third here last month when just behind You Say Its Over, who must have a good chance also. My Last Oscar is another big player dropped in grade.
The vote goes to VELASCO, who won over C&D in June and ran creditably when third off this mark at Newcastle last time.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool.
