14:10 Haydock Handicap (Class 5) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Alice Tregoning has got acquainted with ATALANTA BREEZE on her last three appearances, with a Ffos Las second last month a strong hint that the eight-year-old mare retains plenty of enthusiasm for the game. Two miles at Lingfield subsequently probably stretched her but her fourth-place wasn't bad and she is preferred to Shield Of Honour, who claimed a classified event at Yarmouth prior to a decent Ripon effort. Just An Hour is working his way back into form and has dropped to a nice mark.

JUST AN HOUR again ran well from his steadily easing mark when fourth at Catterick last month and he can open his account for this yard. Atalanta Breeze and Fiddlers Green may emerge as the most potent threats.

Brodie Hampson won this last year and the return to a forecast slower surface is a likely plus for her mount FIDDLERS GREEN.

14:40 Haydock Maiden (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

WE DARE TO DREAM and Boston Run bring identical form figures to the table, but David O'Meara's colt has chased home a couple of youngsters who have gone on to acquit themselves well at a high level so may be the way to go. That's not to say Boston Run can't step forward from his C&D and Hamilton seconds, although Sir Peter Fossick may be a bigger threat after filling the runner-up spot at Epsom before being undone by a wide draw at Glorious Goodwood. Better was expected of Captain Harry at Chester, but he can't be written off yet.

WE DARE TO DREAM has plenty of winners in his pedigree and looked to have lots of ability when second at Ripon last month, so he gets the nod with improvement on the cards. Boston Run is a player and Captain Harry should also build on his initial outing.

James Fanshawe's 2yos are in tremendous form and HARRYELLA could be an entirely different proposition on this second start.

15:10 Haydock Handicap (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Things didn't go to plan for GREEN ICON when sent off a warm favourite for his Nottingham introduction, but he made no mistake next time at Chelmsford. The runner-up has gone one better since to give the form a boost and Owen Burrows' colt can take full advantage of what might be a lenient opening figure. Chuti Manika is not as obviously well treated, but also made it second-time lucky at Catterick and has to be respected. Feeraas, who cost 150,000gns as a yearling, has shown ability and has been gelded ahead of his nursery bow.

GREEN ICON left his debut form behind when getting off the mark at Chelmsford a month ago and the form has been boosted by the runner-up, so he's fancied to prove himself better than an opening mark of 74. Chuti Manika fits a similar mould and deserves respect, while there's plenty to like about Pietro's profile also.

Preference is for PIETRO, who won a nursery at Epsom three weeks ago and shaped as though he has more to offer.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

CALEDONIAN showed marked improvement from first to second start when keeping on in second over 7f at Yarmouth last month, and stepping up to a mile on this occasion could be the making of him. King Casper has a 4lb penalty to overcome for scoring comfortably here last time out, while costly purchase Silver Peak was green when hanging left on debut at Kempton. Aegean Sea has the form to get involved too.

SILVER PEAK, a 7-figure buy, was held back by inexperience on his debut at Kempton just over a fortnight ago but still pulled clear of the rest and seems sure to do better, so he's taken to make his second start a winning one. King Casper impressed when scoring here last month and is highly respected under a penalty, while Aegean Sea could yet build on his promising debut.

Charlie Appleby has won the last three runnings and 1,250,000euros Dubawi colt SILVER PEAK can build on his recent debut fourth.

DEFENCE MINISTER may have a 7lb penalty to overcome for success on debut at Newmarket last month, but he did so in taking fashion and there is likely to be plenty more improvement forthcoming from the son of Too Darn Hot. He gets the vote ahead of promising Redcar second Arabian Angel and Double Rush, who ran well on debut but was no match for a smart sort of Saeed bin Suroor's at Windsor.

DEFENCE MINISTER overcame obvious signs of inexperience and showed highly encouraging speed in the process when making a winning debut at Newmarket 3 weeks ago. Marking himself down as a useful prospect on that evidence, he can defy a penalty and make it 2-2. Fellow last-time-out scorer Dark Cloud Rising is another of interest, along with Arabian Angel, in an intriguing small-field affair.

The 210,000euros breeze-up buy DEFENCE MINISTER made a very promising start to his career when winning at Newmarket last month.

(7) Elladonna 15/8, Has shown improved form back up in trip fitted with a hood last 2 starts, scoring at Nottingham in May before comfortably following up at Salisbury (9.9f, good) just under 8 weeks ago by 1½ lengths from the reopposing Roarin' Success. Not taken lightly despite the omission of headgear.
2-2 in the hood; left off today but she's just the type of filly her trainer excels with.

(3) Wisper 15/2, Arrives in good order, finishing runner-up for a third time this season at Lingfield (9f, good to firm) 23 days ago, just no match for a 3-y-o who enjoyed the run of things. Should continue to give a good account.
Beaten on last 12 runs but is in fine form; hasn't enjoyed run of the race the last twice.

(5) Nocturnal 8/1, Form of her August Lingfield win has worked out and she followed up with any amount in hand on her all-weather debut after 8 months off at Wolverhampton in March. Never landed a blow in the Sandringham but back on track when sixth of 12 at Goodwood just over 5 weeks ago. Now upped to 1¼m.
Improvement needed on third handicap start but she could improve now upped to 1m2f.

(2) Naaey 8/1, Persevered with by her top yard and duly got back on the up in taking fashion when landing 8-runner handicap at Doncaster (10.2f, good to firm) 19 days ago, leading over 1f out and well on top finish. Up 6 lb for that success but she remains unexposed so is high on the shortlist.
Did it comfortably at Doncaster in her second handicap; a 6lb rise may not stop her.

On a competitive mark but flopped at York latest; hard to be confident on the back of that.

16:50 Haydock Handicap (Class 3) 10f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Having justified strong support in the market when scoring at Doncaster last month, there is likely more to come from NAAEY. A 6lb higher rating looks far from insurmountable for the lightly-raced four-year-old and another win could be on the cards. The hat-trick seeking Elladonna has proved a different proposition since racing over 1m2f, as evidenced with victories at Nottingham and Salisbury. James Fanshawe's filly is feared most, ahead of Wisper.

NAAEY justified strong support when bolting up at Doncaster last month and with further progress on the cards, John & Thady Gosden's 4-y-o is fancied to notch career success number 3 at the expense of Elladonna, who arrives on a hat-trick but rather curiously has the hood discarded on this occasion. Warda Jamila looks the most interesting of the 3-y-os so she completes the shortlist.

The Gosden-trained NAAEY (nap) looked a lightly raced 4yo to follow when winning with something to spare at Doncaster.

17:20 Haydock Handicap (Class 5) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

The application of first-time cheekpieces enabled a career-best performance from FREE SPEECH when she scored in ready fashion at Pontefract in July. Ed Dunlop's filly could make light work of a 5lb rise in the ratings and she shades the verdict over D Day Arvalenreeva. The daughter of Mastercraftsman arrives on the back of a close-up second at Windsor and another prominent showing looks assured. Fun Loving is also noted.

D DAY ARVALENREEVA looked mightily unlucky not to win at Windsor on her most recent outing in June, having had to wait for a gap for the best part of 2f, so she's taken to gain compensation. Free Speech doubled her career tally in fine style at Pontefract in July and seems likely to give another good account, while Muqinah is an interesting handicap debutante.

In a tight finale D DAY ARVALENREEVA is narrowly preferred to Free Speech.
