13:35 Haydock Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

KNOWSLEY ROAD returned from a 121-day break, after undergoing wind surgery, to win by a neck in a class 3 event at Taunton last month. Paul Nicholls' seven-year-old is only 4lb higher for that triumph and, with Harry Cobden back on board, he looks an appealing proposition. Zain Nights is a real improver to watch out for after he completed a double at Cheltenham, while Harbour Lake and Judicial Law are just two others to consider.

ZAIN NIGHTS is a hurdler on the up and a 6 lb rise for Cheltenham may not be sufficient to prevent him from completing the hat-trick given he remains unexposed at the trip. Harbour Lake meets the selection on 4 lb better terms and shouldn't be far away again, with Lord Snootie and Gowel Road others to note in a fiercely-competitive event.

The return to better ground could be just what JUDICIAL LAW needs and he earns the vote ahead of the thriving 5yo Zain Nights.

14:10 Haydock Handicap (Class 4) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

WINTERFAIR pulled way too hard when finishing third at Lingfield last month, but it was by no means a disappointing effort and she makes her handicap bow. The daughter of Kitten's Joy returns to turf and could be well treated off an opening mark of 78. Sunny Street was sent off favourite for his handicap debut at Southwell last time and he was denied by a head. He ought to remain competitive off a 2lb higher mark, while Cheshire Dancer makes some appeal too.

SUNNY STREET seemed to shirk the issue when splitting a pair of subsequent winners on his handicap bow at Southwell but he's clearly well handicapped so is worth another chance back from a break. Cerulean Bay should come on from his decent return at Beverley and is next best ahead of Winterfair.

William Haggas does well here and Winterfair is a tempting option but preference is for the attractively bred KING'S FOUNTAIN.

14:45 Haydock Handicap (Class 4) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Wreck It Ryley (second) had Beauty Choice (third) behind him in a class 5 event at Catterick last month and he can confirm his superiority over that rival. However, they could be playing a supporting role behind ZOZIMUS, who just reached the frame in a stronger contest than this at Newmarket last week and he goes off an unchanged mark. David O'Meara's six-year-old looks the one to beat, while Magical Merlin and Liangel Hope are noted too.

JUSTCALLMEPETE has been given a chance by the handicapper and didn't get the best of runs at Newbury last time. He gets the nod. Beauty Choice and Zozimus rate the principal dangers.

A few with chances but MERESIDE DIVA signed off last season on a high and found all trouble going on her return. She can stay this far.

(11) Clear White Light 33/1, Went the right way in handicaps for current yard last term, winning twice at around 2½m. Successful return at Doncaster and also cashed in on a handy Flat mark at Catterick (easy enough to excuse Doncaster run latest in what was an unconventional race).
His form can be up and down but he's 2-2 on good ground and on a handy mark.

15:15 Haydock Handicap Hurdle (Class 1) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

BALLEE fared best of those who raced up with the pace when finishing an excellent second over an extended 2m at Aintree last month and, nudged up just 2lb, this habitual prominent racer may take some pegging back. Lark In The Mornin was last seen scoring cosily in the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and he is feared most, though four-year-olds boast just one win from 23 attempts in this contest since 2001. The improving Tintintin is another to consider.

BALLEE did really well to stick at it for as long as he did having helped contribute to an overly-strong gallop at Aintree a month ago, and at the forecast prices, he looks the way to go. Lark In The Mornin will do for many on the back of his ready Boodles win but the juice in his price has gone, while Rare Middleton may well be able to reverse last month's Cheltenham form with Tintintin.

Boodles winner Lark In The Mornin is a player but preference is for RARE MIDDLETON, who travelled well when second at Cheltenham.

15:50 Haydock Listed (Class 1) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

SHARTASH was making his first start for this stable when comprehensively beating some useful rivals over 7f at Thirsk last month, and he gets the vote to bring up the double. A Group 2 winner over 7f, Witch Hunter rates as the main danger to the selection, but if adopting his usual patient tactics he may prove a hostage to fortune in this small field. Poet Master has earned a crack at a race of this nature after a couple of handicap victories and he merits consideration.

Karl Burke's POET MASTER arrives on an upward curve so is fancied to take this step up into listed company in his stride and make it 5-6 on the back of his ready Newmarket handicap victory. Shartash made the perfect start with Archie Watson when scoring at Thirsk on his return and rates the main danger, although in-form duo Witch Hunter and Pogo also command plenty of respect.

Unlike his rivals, POET MASTER (nap) is stepping up from handicaps but he is building up an good CV and can maintain his winning run.

16:25 Haydock NH Flat Race (Class 3) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

French Ship improved on his Kempton debut when filling the runner-up spot at Taunton last month and is respected. Letterston Lily was pitched in at the deep end on her debut, finishing down the field in a Grade 2 at Aintree, so these calmer waters should help. There is plenty to like about the chances of Nicky Henderson's newcomer Doctor Midas, but a chance is taken on EL BATTLE BUS. The Flat-bred son of Australia should not lack for stamina and might have the tactical speed should this turn into a sprint.

DOCTOR MIDAS represents top connections and may be clued up enough to make a successful start at the possible expense of Letterston Lily, who showed ability in a much better race than this on debut. Sayva is another notable newcomer.

Having been the morning favourite when a non-runner at Huntingdon on Thursday, STEP AHEAD earns the vote on debut.

17:00 Haydock Handicap (Class 5) 10f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Well supported ahead of his handicap debut over 1m here a fortnight ago, MINSTREL KNIGHT couldn't reel in the leaders. He gets a step up in trip, though, which should suit, and off an unchanged mark he could shed the maiden tag. Cambria Legend occupied the runner-up berth at Yarmouth last time out and must be taken seriously, along with Yippee, who can find improvement now switched to turf.

CAMBRIA LEGEND perhaps should have gone even closer still on his yard debut at Yarmouth last time and James Fanshawe's gelding is fancied to one better at the chief expense of Minstrel Knight, who promises to be suited by this longer trip. Rich Harry held his form well last season and can come on for his seasonal return to finish third.

Yarmouth runner-up CAMBRIA LEGEND has leading form claims and is taken to go one better. Minstrel Knight is feared most.
