1st (2) (11/4 +50%) Garfield Shadow |
11/4(+50%) | (2) Garfield Shadow 11/4, Foaled April 8. €3,000 yearling, €155,000 2-y-o, James Garfield colt. Dam, maiden (stayed 1¼m) out of smart 9.5f-1½m winner Flowers of Spring. Newcomer for excellent yard. Sales price rocketed to 155,000euros at the Breeze Ups; bred for further; check betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (4/1 +0%) Good Point |
4/1(+0%) | (3) Good Point 4/1, Speedy sort but failed to match runner-up effort at Beverley when third of 7 in novice event at Musselburgh (5f, good) 44 days ago. 2nd run brings him right into the reckoning but lesser effort, albeit still ran OK, latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (1/1 -20%) Blue Storm |
1/1(-20%) | (1) Blue Storm 1/1, £75,000 Blue Point half-brother to 2-y-o 6f winner Silver Surfer and smart 6f/6.5f winner Asjad. Dam 5f/6f winner. Displayed sharp turn of foot when making a taking winning debut at Newmarket in April (race worked out). Disappointing in listed company a month later and off since, but this is easier. Looked good at Newmarket on debut; midfield in Listed race in June; leading form claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (9/1 -100%) Our Bank |
9/1(-100%) | (4) Our Bank 9/1, Still looks a work-in-progress but stepped up on markedly on opening run when fourth of 9 in novice event at Lingfield (5f, AW) 18 days ago. Second run better than first; more to come at this stiffer track; needs to progress though. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BLUE STORM struggled at Listed level in the National Stakes at Sandown but won well on debut and it would be no surprise to see him bounce back to form here, despite having to carry a 7lb penalty. Garfield Shadow lacks race experience but merits respect having cost 155,000 euros at a breeze-up sale earlier in the year. Good Point edges out Our Bank to be best of the rest.
BLUE STORM has been off the track since May but he's in very good hands and this represents a significant drop in class. Assuming all is well he can defy a penalty, possibly at the chief expense of Our Bank unless there's confidence behind the Fahey newcomer Garfield Shadow.
The drop back into novice company can see BLUE STORM register a second success. Our Bank may chase him home.

1st (3) (7/2 -17%) Ski Angel |
7/2(-17%) | (3) Ski Angel 7/2, Opened her account at Ayr in July and has continued in good nick, not enjoying the clearest of runs when eleventh of 20 to Aconcagua Mountain at Ayr (5f, good to soft) 3 days ago. In the mix off a 3 lb lower mark. More races in her on slow ground but work to do with Aconcagua Mountain on Thursday's run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (8/1 -45%) Captain Corcoran |
8/1(-45%) | (4) Captain Corcoran 8/1, It's now thirteen runs since his last win in 2022 but he posted a good third of 10 in handicap at Thirsk (6f, soft) 6 days ago. Can give another good account. Fair third over 6f on Monday and the return to 5f is a plus; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (40/1 -21%) Nodsasgoodasawink |
40/1(-21%) | (6) Nodsasgoodasawink 40/1, Twenty four runs since her last win in 2021. Only ninth of 10 in handicap (40/1) at Musselburgh (5f, good to soft) 8 days ago so others appeal a lot more. On losing run and this year's efforts leave her with plenty to find. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (4/6 +8%) Aconcagua Mountain |
4/6(+8%) | (1) Aconcagua Mountain 4/6, Got off the mark for the season with a ready win in 20-runner handicap at Ayr (5f, good to soft) 3 days ago. The one to beat under a 5 lb penalty. Emphatic win in a big field at Ayr on Thursday; major player down in class despite penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (16/1 +27%) Annie Maher |
16/1(+27%) | (2) Annie Maher 16/1, Fair maiden who has been below form all three starts for her current trainer, only eighth at Newcastle 13 days ago. Tongue strap/cheekpieces go on for 1st time but others are preferred. 11-race maiden who isn't progressing; new accessories tried but others much more appealing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (10/1 +44%) Quanah |
10/1(+44%) | (5) Quanah 10/1, C&D winner but only eighth of 13 in handicap at Southwell (6.1f, 40/1) 27 days ago. Twelve runs since his last win in 2022. Conditions ideal and last two runs have hinted at a potential revial; not discounted. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
ACONCAGUA MOUNTAIN has to carry a 5lb penalty for his success over this distance at Ayr on Thursday, but this is a weak contest and Iain Jardine's five-year-old is very hard to oppose. Ski Angel failed to fire behind the selection that day but can be given another chance based on her previous form, while Captain Corcoran and Annie Maher complete the shortlist.
ACONCAGUA MOUNTAIN opened his account for 2023 in good style at Ayr only three days ago and is hard to oppose turned out quickly under a 5 lb penalty in this much less competitive sprint. The consistent Ski Angel appeals as the one to chase home Iain Jardine's handily-weighted 5-y-o ahead of Captain Corcoran.
This looks good for ACONCAGUA MOUNTAIN, who fairly bolted up in a better race at Ayr on Thursday.

1st (1) (0.62/1 +15%) Bringbackmemories |
0.62/1(+15%) | (1) Bringbackmemories 0.62/1, Fair and consistent 1m2f winner who posted another solid effort when third of 6 in handicap at Redcar (10f, good) 5 days ago. Leading claims dropped into a seller. Fair handicapper; leading chance at the weights switched to seller. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (6.5/1 -63%) Yeeeaah |
6.5/1(-63%) | (4) Yeeeaah 6.5/1, Finally got off the mark in 12-runner handicap at Carlisle (7.8f, good to firm) 17 days ago. Well on top at the finish there so he needs considering. In-form 4yo; off the mark at Carlisle last time; should give his running. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (2.5/1 +29%) Iconique |
2.5/1(+29%) | (5) Iconique 2.5/1, It's now nineteen runs since her last win in 2021 but she comes here in decent nick, sixth of 10 in handicap at Leicester (10f, soft) 12 days ago. Shortlisted. 0-8 for current yard but has possibilities on these terms, receiving 10lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (14/1 -27%) Dark Company |
14/1(-27%) | (2) Dark Company 14/1, Scored at Lingfield in July but he beat only one in handicap (20/1) at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 15 days ago. Untrustworthy individual. Ready winner (for previous yard) the last time Archie Young was on board. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (66/1 -32%) Letter Of The Law |
66/1(-32%) | (3) Letter Of The Law 66/1, Modest gelding. 28/1, last of 7 in handicap at Salisbury (8f, soft) 23 days ago. Hard to warm to on current form. Modest performer who has the worst chance at the weights. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
BRINGBACKMEMORIES was not beaten far off a mark of 73 over 1m2f at Redcar earlier in the week and, based on that evidence, the four-year-old could outclass his rivals now switched to selling company. Yeeeaah won a handicap at Carlisle on his most recent outing, but that came off a rating of 55 so he has plenty to find with the selection. Dark Company also needs to improve to score, but could make the frame.
BRINGBACKMEMORIES is a reliable sort who holds the clear edge on form lowered in grade here so he looks very much the way to go. Iconique and Yeeeaah appeal as the duo to give the selection most to do and can chase him home in that order.
The mare ICONIQUE is a tempting proposition in receipt of 10lb from the males. Bringbackmemories is feared most.

1st (5) (13/2 +19%) Iris Dancer |
13/2(+19%) | (5) Iris Dancer 13/2, Four-time C&D winner. Didn't need to improve to win 6-runner handicap at this C&D (good to firm, 11/4) 19 days ago. Holding her form well and should give another good account. Four-time C&D winner, including this race last year; should go well once again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (9/2 +44%) Giselles Izzy |
9/2(+44%) | (6) Giselles Izzy 9/2, Landed a gamble when winning 8-runner handicap at this C&D (good to firm) 19 days ago, driven clear. That effort rated as a career best but more will be required from a 6 lb higher mark. Two C&D wins this season but she's up in the weights in an interesting race of its type. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (9/4 +44%) Rock Melody |
9/4(+44%) | (1) Rock Melody 9/4, Hold up performer who scored twice over 5f at Musselburgh this summer and recorded a creditable runner-up effort there last weekend. Not so good at Ayr on Friday, but still highly respected in the less competitive race. Two 5f wins this summer; good run last week; midfield in Ayr Bronze Cup on Friday; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (15/2 -36%) Isle Of Dreams |
15/2(-36%) | (4) Isle Of Dreams 15/2, 5-y-o mare who has built up a fine strike rate, gaining a sixth win from last 7 starts when edging ahead late on at Thirsk (6f) in July. Up 2 lb on the back of that but she will need to pull out bit more if she's to defy career-high mark here. Big improver since handicapping and may not have reached her ceiling; solid contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (5/1 -166%) Love Lies |
5/1(-166%) | (3) Love Lies 5/1, Confirmed debut promise when winning 10-runner maiden at Ayr last month before following up in 7-runner minor event at Newcastle (6f) 16 days ago, pushed out. Likely to improve further now handicapping. Unexposed and progressive 3yo; makes handicap debut with more to come; slow ground a query. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (4/1 +11%) Slainte Mhath |
4/1(+11%) | (2) Slainte Mhath 4/1, Three-time C&D winner. 3 wins from 10 runs this year. Latest win here in July. Evens, rare below-par effort when fifth of 6 in handicap at this C&D (good to soft) 41 days ago. Still makes the shortlist on the overall balance of her form. Conditions ideal but she hasn't got much room for error off her current mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
LOVE LIES continues to go from strength to strength as a young sprinter, and a mark of 78 on her handicap debut could prove lenient on the back of comfortable successes at Newcastle and Ayr. Archie Watson's charge is preferred to recent C&D winner Iris Dancer, who took this prize home last year, and the winning machine Isle Of Dreams, who has scored on six of her last seven outings.
A trappy sprint, the vast majority arriving in fine form, though handicap-newcomer LOVE LIES makes most appeal after a pair of wins in maiden and novice company. Rock Melody was below par in the Ayr Bronze Cup on Friday but would merit plenty of respect if coming here, whilst Slainte Mhath is usually very reliable over C&D and can shrug off a rare poor effort last time.
Last year's winner Iris Dancer is high on the list but the progressive ISLE OF DREAMS is marginally preferred.

1st (7) (9/2 +40%) Burj Malinka |
9/2(+40%) | (7) Burj Malinka 9/2, Course winner. 9/1, below form seventh of 15 in handicap at Thirsk (7f, soft) 6 days ago, left poorly placed. Cheekpieces back on. Conditions fine and on a good mark on this year's best; below par on Monday though. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (11/1 +21%) Selby's Pride |
11/1(+21%) | (6) Selby's Pride 11/1, C&D winner. 16/1, sixth of 11 in handicap at Doncaster (5.6f, good) 7 days ago. C&D winner off 10lb higher last summer; yet to fire this year but latest run was better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (13/2 +0%) The Gay Blade |
13/2(+0%) | (10) The Gay Blade 13/2, C&D winner. Latest win at Musselburgh in August. 11/2, good second of 8 in handicap at this C&D (good to firm) 19 days ago, slowly away. Not taken lightly. C&D winner; 7f win (0-50 classified) last month; creditable run latest; this is tougher. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (12/1 -20%) Secret Road |
12/1(-20%) | (4) Secret Road 12/1, Latest win at Fairyhouse in June. Seventh of 11 in handicap (6/1) at Redcar (6f, good to firm) 29 days ago. Hood on 1st time. On a good mark on Irish form and slower ground/new hood could help; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (10/1 +0%) Ramon Di Loria |
10/1(+0%) | (2) Ramon Di Loria 10/1, 8/1, third of 4 in handicap at Musselburgh (5f, soft) 7 days ago. Back up in trip. This more suitable than last week's assignment and he's handicapped to go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (9/2 +0%) Blazing Son |
9/2(+0%) | (5) Blazing Son 9/2, Latest win at Southwell in May. 9/2, respectable fifth of 11 in handicap at Redcar (6f, good to firm) 29 days ago. Merits consideration. Went desperately close at Doncaster last month; faster ground excuses latest; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (7/1 -27%) Elladora |
7/1(-27%) | (8) Elladora 7/1, C&D winner. 7/2, creditable third of 8 in handicap at this C&D (good to firm) 19 days ago. Respected. C&D winner in May off 6lb lower; some good runs since but others stronger at this level. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (10/1 -25%) Mighty Gurkha |
10/1(-25%) | (1) Mighty Gurkha 10/1, Latest win at Leicester in June. Below form sixth of 11 in handicap (11/1) at Kempton (6f) 16 days ago. Has good chance on pick of form. Ran away with a Leicester handicap in June; fair effort since; rain wouldn't aid his cause. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (5/1 +55%) Russco |
5/1(+55%) | (3) Russco 5/1, Good seventh of 12 in handicap at Southwell (7.1f, 66/1) 11 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Needs to better his first two runs for this yard but the drop in class should help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (20/1 -186%) Glorious Rio |
20/1(-186%) | (9) Glorious Rio 20/1, 4/1, below form sixth of 12 in handicap at Newcastle (5f) 13 days ago, slowly away. Back up in trip. Cheekpieces back on. He's been threatening of late and conditions won't be a problem; not discounted. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BLAZING SON has shown more than enough in recent outings, including when narrowly denied at Doncaster on his penultimate start, to suggest that he can regain the winning thread. The form of his stable is another plus and he may have too much for bottom-weight The Gay Blade, who occupied the runner-up berth over C&D earlier in the month and struck at this meeting 12 months ago. Completing the shortlist are Elladora, Glorious Rio and Mighty Gurkha.
MIGHTY GURKHA was below par at Kempton last time but this is less competitive and he's on a good mark on the pick of this season's form. Elladora often runs well here so is feared most ahead of Blazing Son.
Bryan Smart's string are in fine form at present and BLAZING SON (nap) can provide another winner.

1st (5) (3/1 +50%) Lunacy |
3/1(+50%) | (5) Lunacy 3/1, Opened account at this C&D in July. Not seen to best effect when sixth of 10 in handicap at Chester (14.4f, soft, 50/1) 8 days ago, left poorly placed. Could still have more to offer back down in trip. Sole success came over C&D in July; return to this scenario is a plus. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (11/2 +0%) Rory The Cat |
11/2(+0%) | (6) Rory The Cat 11/2, Successful twice at Beverley this summer. Below expectations when fifth of 7 in handicap at Ayr (10f, good, 9/4) 48 days ago, but no surprise to see him get back on track after a break. 2-5 for current yard; form dipped last time but may still have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (2/1 -14%) Barrolo |
2/1(-14%) | (1) Barrolo 2/1, Four wins from 6 runs this year, with latest success at Newmarket in August. Shaped well when third of 12 in handicap at Newcastle (10.2f, 9/4) 16 days ago, not ideally placed and meeting trouble. Can resume winning ways. Has form figures of 112113 since handicapping; may not have stopped improving yet. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (10/3 +5%) Blue Antares |
10/3(+5%) | (4) Blue Antares 10/3, Off the mark at Ripon in August and has been holding his form well since, second of 5 in handicap (3/1) at Musselburgh (12.5f, soft) 7 days ago. Can give another good account. Largely consistent form, including Ripon win, since wearing a visor; solid chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (17/2 -21%) Hondo |
17/2(-21%) | (3) Hondo 17/2, Below form when last of 6 in handicap at Thirsk (14f, good to soft, 8/1) 15 days ago, though unsuited by steady gallop. Improvement required as he drops in trip with cheekpieces applied. Not progressing thus far but has possibilities if taking well to the headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (18/1 -29%) Rampant |
18/1(-29%) | (7) Rampant 18/1, Failed to build on promise of previous run when ninth of 14 in handicap (10/3) at Southwell (11.1f) 18 days ago. Bounce back called for returned to turf. Best efforts on Tapeta at Newcastle; something to prove back on turf. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (33/1 -83%) Best Guess |
33/1(-83%) | (2) Best Guess 33/1, Matched previous form on first run since leaving Joseph Patrick O'Brien when third of 5 in minor event at Carlisle (9f, good to firm, 125/1) 17 days ago. Needs to take a step forward on his handicap debut. Bred to be suited by this new trip but opening mark doesn't look generous. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BARROLO didn't enjoy the smoothest of passages when on a hat-trick at Newcastle earlier in the month and is fancied to finish two places better than that third-placed effort to regain the winning thread. Blue Antares has been posting some creditable efforts in defeat of late and should be on the premises once more, while Rory The Cat is a potential improver on his first attempt at 1m3f.
BARROLO has proved a different proposition having been gelded and switched to handicaps this year, winning 4 times and shaping well in the circumstances when third at Newcastle on his latest outing. He is taken to add to his tally, with Lunacy feared most back at this C&D. Blue Antares can also give his running once again.
The vote goes to RORY THE CAT, who may still have more to offer for Lucinda Russell. Blue Antares and Barrolo are respected.

5.5/1(+45%) | (5) Ask Peter 5.5/1, C&D winner in August. Ninth of 12 in handicap (10/1) at Chelmsford City (14f) 31 days ago. Needs to bounce back but return to this track is in her favour. Opened her account in C&D handicap on most recent turf start; one to consider. |

2nd (2) (5.5/1 +50%) Tafsir |
5.5/1(+50%) | (2) Tafsir 5.5/1, Course winner. 3 wins from 12 runs this year. Latest win at Musselburgh in August. Twelfth of 13 in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f, 9/1) 24 days ago. More realistic claims in this grade of handicap. Last three turf appearances have resulted in Scottish wins, including here. |

3rd (3) (12/1 +14%) Ebony Maw |
12/1(+14%) | (3) Ebony Maw 12/1, One win from 24 Flat runs. Twenty runs since last win in 2020. Fifth of 10 in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f, 15/2) 5 days ago, slowly away. Plenty to prove at present. Signs of a revival in AW contest five days ago; sole win came in 2020. |

4th (7) (1.1/1 +0%) Kells |
1.1/1(+0%) | (7) Kells 1.1/1, One win from 27 Flat runs. Improved on recent efforts to win 14-runner handicap at Thirsk (12f, soft, 15/2) 6 days ago, soon clear. Well capable of following up having escaped a penalty. Longstanding maiden prior to wide-margin win at Thirsk; great chance off same mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (7/1 +22%) Aighear |
7/1(+22%) | (6) Aighear 7/1, C&D winner. Creditable second of 5 in handicap at Carlisle (17.2f, soft, 15/2) 11 days ago, no match for winner. Back down in trip. Merits respect. Threatening to regain the winning thread; scored over C&D last term; solid chance. |

6th (1) (14/1 +13%) Heatherdown Hero |
14/1(+13%) | (1) Heatherdown Hero 14/1, Fourth of 8 in handicap (25/1) at this course (9.2f, good to firm) 19 days ago. Significantly back up in trip. Others make more appeal. Signs of a return to form here (1m1f) last time; step back up in distance is a positive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (10/1 -150%) Black Smoke |
10/1(-150%) | (4) Black Smoke 10/1, Winner at Lingfield in August. First run since leaving Brian Barr when good second of 9 in handicap at Bath (11.6f, good, 9/1) 24 days ago. Has made a promising start to his British career and may improve further; respected. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
KELLS escapes a penalty after romping home in an apprentice handicap at Thirsk on Monday and the six-year-old is hard to oppose if coping with the quick turnaround. Black Smoke ran with plenty of encouragement when runner-up on his stable debut for Mark Loughnane at Bath and may give the selection most to think about. Tafsir is also worth a look now dropping in class, with the switch to turf likely to aid the daughter of Tamarkuz.
KELLS is unpenalised for his wide-margin success at Thirsk 6 days ago and, if the race doesn't come too soon, he should be capable of following up. Black Smoke makes his second start for a new yard and looks the likeliest to capitalise if the selection fluffs his lines and Tafsir is no forlorn hope returning to a more suitable grade.
Kells has to be feared but AIGHEAR is a solid alternative and Black Smoke is also respected.
Ths is the racecard key.

This is the 16:15 Kempton race from the video above backed at 28/1 earlier in the day.
Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
