Expected to be bang there. 7yo who has had a regressive campaign but has a fine record here and is a possible player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (13/2 +46%) Rievaulx Raver |
13/2(+46%) | (2) Rievaulx Raver 13/2, Eleventh of 12 in handicap at Ripon (8f, good to firm, 22/1) 43 days ago. Tongue strap on for 1st time. Chance on old form. Continues to tumble down the weights but well beaten on all three starts this season. |

14/1(-155%) | (7) Retirement Beckons 14/1, 4-time C&D winner. Good fourth of 14 in handicap at Newcastle (8f, 40/1) 13 days ago, suited by way race developed. Can give a good account. 9yo who is on a losing run but has posted some fair efforts of late; might not be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (50/1 +0%) Chinese Spirit |
50/1(+0%) | (9) Chinese Spirit 50/1, C&D winner. Fifteen runs since last win in 2023. Last of 8 in handicap (40/1) at Musselburgh (8f, good to firm) 9 days ago, slowly away. Two-time course winner but this 10yo is winless in 2024; soundly beaten the last twice. |

9th (1) (9/4 -13%) Rebecca's Girl |
9/4(-13%) | (1) Rebecca's Girl 9/4, Winner at Carlisle in August. Creditable third of 13 in handicap at this C&D (soft, 9/4) 19 days ago. Looks competitive on form. Won in August on second run for this yard and has continued in good form; solid contender. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Despite filling the runner-up spot over slightly further here last month, Temper Trap was somewhat underwhelming. Tim Easterby's gelding is likely to feature, but REBECCA'S GIRL is more compelling. The four-year-old only gave way in the closing stages when a close-up third over C&D earlier this month and a 2lb higher rating might not be enough to prevent another bold showing. Four-time track-and-trip winner Retirement Beckons also warrants a second look.
TEMPER TRAP rates the pick at these weights so is taken to end a long losing run and bag a sixth success here. Top-weight Rebecca's Girl looks the one to give Tim Easterby's gelding most to do ahead of another course specialist Retirement Beckons.
This looks a good opportunity for the in-form REBECCA'S GIRL (nap), who has continued to run well since winning at Carlisle last month.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Showhound responded well to the application of cheekpieces (retained) when finishing an excellent third over 6f at Chester recently, and he must enter calculations off an unchanged mark. However, GUNDOGAN is narrowly preferred . Ed Bethell's charge fairly bolted up in first-time blinkers (retained) on his penultimate start over 6f at Carlisle, before shaping like he was still in good nick when faring best of those held up off the pace in a Leicester handicap most recently. A 3lb rise for a recent C&D success doesn't discount Game Breaker either.
SHOWHOUND showed the benefit of cheekpieces when a resurgent third at Chester last time and can capitalise on a handy-looking mark now with the heagear retained. Game Breaker is feared most on the back of a recent C&D success, with in-form duo Gundogan and Wichahpi also in the picture.
The consistent filly WICHAHPI can notch her third win of the season. Gundogan may still be capable of better in the blinkers.

11/4(+54%) | (5) Many A Year 11/4, Took a step back in the right direction when fourth of 9 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f, 25/1) 16 days ago, not ideally placed. Well worth considering off a reduced mark. Encouraging fourth at Wolverhampton following a break; key player if backing that up. |

2nd (3) (3/1 +25%) Havana Pursuit |
3/1(+25%) | (3) Havana Pursuit 3/1, Seventh of 10 in handicap at Carlisle (5.8f, good to soft, 6/1) 49 days ago. Chance on old form. No better than fifth this season but he's dropped down the weights and is not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (13/2 +0%) Rain Cap |
13/2(+0%) | (7) Rain Cap 13/2, C&D winner. Thirteen runs since last win in 2023. 7/1, below form fifth of 9 in handicap at Catterick (7f, good to soft) 13 days ago. Needs a couple of these to falter. Below par more often than not this season but went very close at Catterick two starts ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (7/1 -75%) Rosenpur |
7/1(-75%) | (2) Rosenpur 7/1, Raced freely when a creditable fifth of 8 in handicap at Nottingham (8.3f, good, 12/1) 34 days ago. Back down in trip and can give a good account off an easing mark. Could do with settling better but a good case can be made on his best summer form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (12/1 -100%) Angel Amadea |
12/1(-100%) | (6) Angel Amadea 12/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2023. 5/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, sixth of 9 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 16 days ago. Visor on 1st time. Well handicapped on form as recent as May; hard to fancy on more recent evidence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (10/3 -11%) Gentle Ellen |
10/3(-11%) | (1) Gentle Ellen 10/3, C&D winner. Below form sixth of 12 in handicap (11/1) at Haydock (7f, good) 17 days ago. Has fallen to a workable mark if back on her A-game though. Below par on last three starts but in good form previously and not written off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (14/1 -115%) Majestic Newlaw |
14/1(-115%) | (4) Majestic Newlaw 14/1, Respectable fifth of 9 in handicap (20/1) at Carlisle (6.9f, good to soft) 33 days ago. Needs considering. Didn't run badly last time but this 14-race maiden has had a patchy campaign. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
In what looks a trappy finale, GENTLE ELLEN gets a tentative vote. She showed up well for a long way before fading into sixth, having raced keenly in the early stages, over 7f at Haydock recently and, dropping back to 6f off 2lb lower, this could be the time to catch her. Many A Year wasn't seen to best effect when finishing fourth over 6f at Wolverhampton latest but is considered eased 2lb, while Rain Cap is noted too.
MANY A YEAR hinted at a revival when a recent fourth at Wolverhampton so gets the vote off a reduced mark. C&D scorer Gentle Ellen is another who figures on an attractive mark so she could emerge as the chief threat if back on song. Rosenpur should prove suited by dropping back in trip and also commands respect in this very open sprint.
The lightly raced 5yo MANY A YEAR produced a positive performance at Wolverhampton recently and gets the nod.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
