1st (4) (14/1 -56%) Jungle Mate |
14/1(-56%) | (4) Jungle Mate 14/1, Foaled March 14. Bungle Inthejungle gelding. Half-brother to 2-y-o 5f winner Thunder Moor. Dam, 6f winner, half-sister to smart winner up to 7f Burnwynd Boy. Makes some appeal on paper and can't be ruled out. Plenty to like on paper and he's an interesting newcomer for in-form yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (6/1 +20%) Lieutenant Rascal |
6/1(+20%) | (5) Lieutenant Rascal 6/1, U S Navy Flag colt who shaped with promise when fifth of 11 in minor event (8/1) at Thirsk (5f, heavy) on debut 13 days ago, racing wide and no extra final 100 yds. Capable of better. Made an encouraging start at Thirsk and could be dangerous if he can build on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (5/1 -67%) Muqtahem |
5/1(-67%) | (1) Muqtahem 5/1, Foaled January 21. £27,000 yearling, £60,000 2-y-o, Soldier's Call colt. Dam 7f winner out of useful winner up to 7f (2-y-o 5f-6.5f winner) Royal Confidence. Highly respected on debut. £60,000 2yo; yard had a well-backed 2yo debut winner on Tuesday; needs a close look. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (7/1 +30%) Midnight Lir |
7/1(+30%) | (6) Midnight Lir 7/1, Showed a bit when fourth of 8 in minor event at Ripon (5f, heavy, 11/1) on debut 20 days ago, not knocked about. Should do better. Should benefit from his Ripon debut run but he needs a major step forward. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (4/1 -14%) Defying Orders |
4/1(-14%) | (7) Defying Orders 4/1, Is bred to be speedy and showed plenty to work on despite looking green when third of 4 in minor event at Nottingham (5f, heavy, 4/1) on debut 17 days ago. Open to progress. Bred for speed and she wasn't beaten far at Nottingham on her debut; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (4/1 -20%) Classy Clarets |
4/1(-20%) | (3) Classy Clarets 4/1, Left debut form well behind when third of 9 in minor event at Pontefract (5f, good to soft, 33/1) 16 days ago. The runner-up has franked that form since, so has solid claims. Big improvement when placed at Pontefract and sets the standard on that form; key player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (3.33/1 +58%) Rich Glory |
3.33/1(+58%) | (2) Rich Glory 3.33/1, Foaled February 4. 45,000 gns yearling, Cotai Glory colt. Dam, maiden (stayed 1m), half-sister to useful Canadian Grade 3 9f winner Second City out of US Grade 1 8.5f winner Sis City. Yard going well and would enter calculations if supported in the betting. Has good pedigree but he could be one for longer trips later on. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Defying Orders was beaten just under two lengths into third on her first start and she is likely to have learned a lot from that experience, which puts her in contention. However, MUQTAHEM just shades the vote, as he was a 60,000gns purchase and the son of Soldier's Call is related to a few winners. Therefore, he could be up to the task on debut for the George Boughey yard, who have had a fine start to the season. Classy Clarets is best of the rest.
LIEUTENANT RASCAL showed plenty to work on despite racing wider than ideal throughout on his recent debut at Thirsk, so he's expected to improve and make his second start a winning one. Classy Clarets sets the standard on his Pontefract third, while Muqtahem is the pick of the newcomers before market clues.
Preference is for CLASSY CLARETS, who found plenty of improvement with his third at Pontefract and sets a fair standard on that form.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (6/1 +29%) Red Allure |
6/1(+29%) | (5) Red Allure 6/1, C&D winner. Respectable sixth of 13 in handicap (33/1) at Chepstow (5.1f, good to firm) 3 days ago. Dual C&D winner who has run well on AW and turf in her last two starts; in the mix. |

8th (6) (28/1 +0%) Burtonlodge Beauty |
28/1(+0%) | (6) Burtonlodge Beauty 28/1, C&D winner. One win from 23 Flat runs. Last of 6 in handicap (28/1) at this C&D (good) 12 days ago. Has record of 1-23 and she's been out of sorts in all three runs this year; opposable. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
MEWS HOUSE filled the runner-up spot over 6f at Catterick on Monday and is fancied to go close once again with the drop in class a notable positive. The main threat looks to be Aconcagua Mountain, who brought the double up when last seen at Wolverhampton in December and he could have a say if switching that form to turf. Spanish Angel completes the shortlist.
MEWS HOUSE would have won had he not pulled so hard at Catterick on Monday and can make amends off the same mark back down to the minimum trip. Aconcagua Mountain was in terrific form when last seen at the end of year so must be respected, while Spanish Angel was only just edged out at Chelmsford last week.
This can go to MEWS HOUSE (nap), who had a near-miss on Monday and should be hard to catch on this drop back in trip/grade.

4th (4) (28/1 -100%) Mickey Mongoose |

11/1(+21%) | (6) Epona Pas 11/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Failed to come on for recent run when fifth of 6 in handicap at this course (8.3f, good, 9/2) 12 days ago. Hood on 1st time.

10/1(-11%) | (1) Lunacy 10/1, Blinkered for 1st time, eleventh of 15 in nursery at Pontefract (8f, good to soft, 7/1) 7 months ago. First run for yard after leaving Ralph Beckett 8,000 gns and has been gelded.
9th (8) (80/1 -186%) Killing Eve |
80/1(-186%) | (8) Killing Eve 80/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 200/1, never a threat in a modestly-run affair when last of 5 in minor event at Newcastle (8f). Off 105 days. Makes handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
A chance can be taken on ARKENSTAAR (second), who had Epona Pas (fifth) well held last time when only beaten just over a length here in this grade. The Michael Dods inmate was kindly left off the same mark for that effort, which gives him a leading chance of going one place better. Of the remainder, Blue Antares looks the most interesting, as he makes his handicap bow and could put his below-par efforts to date well behind him.
This can go to ARKENSTAAR, who took another step forward despite coming from further back than ideal when runner-up at this course 12 days ago and he can go a place better for the in-form Michael Dods. Cariad got back on the up when third at Wolverhampton last month so she can give the selection most to think about, with handicap debutant Blue Antares completing the shortlist.
This can go to ARKENSTAAR, who was runner-up in a handicap here 12 days ago and is open to more progress on his step up to this trip.

1st (3) (5/1 -67%) Vince Lombardi |
5/1(-67%) | (3) Vince Lombardi 5/1, Probably needed the run after 7 months off when ninth of 12 in handicap at Doncaster (7f, heavy, 15/2) 47 days ago. Can take a step forward. Disappointing since his Carlisle win last summer but he's still well treated on that run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (4/1 +0%) Iris Dancer |
4/1(+0%) | (6) Iris Dancer 4/1, Took this event 12 months ago and not disgraced when fourth of 8 in handicap (3/1) at this C&D (good) 12 days ago. Blinkers back on and needs considering. Won this race 12 months ago (one of 2 C&D wins) but she hasn't found her best yet in 2023. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (3.33/1 +17%) Burj Malinka |
3.33/1(+17%) | (4) Burj Malinka 3.33/1, Course winner. Respectable third of 6 in handicap at this course (5f, good, 7/4) 12 days ago. Can give a good account. Both wins have come here over 5f; ran okay here 12 days ago but more needed to win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (6.5/1 +19%) Muscika |
6.5/1(+19%) | (2) Muscika 6.5/1, Latest win at Chelmsford City in March. 16/1, creditable third of 8 in handicap at Ripon (6f, heavy) 7 days ago. In the mix once more. Now 9 but retains a good chunk of ability; ran well at Ripon last week; easy lead doubtful. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (3/1 +10%) Beattie Is Back |
3/1(+10%) | (1) Beattie Is Back 3/1, Latest win at Wolverhampton in December. 11/2, fifth of 8 in handicap at Beverley (5f, good to soft) 22 days ago, unsuited by drop in trip. A player back up in trip off a handy-looking mark. Promising 5th over an inadequate 5f on his return last month; big chance back up at 6f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (7.5/1 -7%) Rory |
7.5/1(-7%) | (5) Rory 7.5/1, Course winner. 6/1, below form fifth of 9 in handicap at Wetherby (5.5f, good to firm) 3 days ago. Unreliable individual. Slow starter; all wins at 5f but effective at 6f; ability is there if on a good day. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
BEATTIE IS BACK performed as well as expected when finishing fifth over an inadequate 5f on his return at Beverley last month and he looks to have more races in him now faced with a stiffer test. Burj Malinka arrives in good heart and he should be on the premises once more, with a 1lb drop in the ratings for his latest third at this track an aid to his cause. Muscika completes the shortlist.
BEATTIE IS BACK looks the way to go here given he arrives on a handy-looking mark and should prove suited by this return to 6f. In-form Muscika is rated next best, although last year's winner Iris Dancer can have a say too now the blinkers go back on.
Vince Lombardi still looks on a good mark but BEATTIE IS BACK appeals most having shaped well over an inadequate 5f on his return.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (3.5/1 +42%) Two Brothers |
3.5/1(+42%) | (9) Two Brothers 3.5/1, Knocked on the door several times last term and deservedly got his head in front at Beverley last month. Good second at Chester a week One to consider from the same mark. Won at Beverley last month before a good second at Chester last week; key player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (14/1 +36%) Onesmoothoperator |
14/1(+36%) | (2) Onesmoothoperator 14/1, Ran poorly back on turf at Musselburgh over Easter. Hard to be too positive after that. Peak efforts suggest this mark is manageable but he's not fired in two runs this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (8/1 +56%) La Pulga |
8/1(+56%) | (7) La Pulga 8/1, First run since leaving Harry & Roger Charlton when bit below form sixth of 11 in handicap (18/1) at Thirsk on reappearance 27 days ago. Blinkers back on. Triple winner but he made a low-key start for his new yard last month; others preferred. |

5th (1) (9/1 +50%) Wickywickywheels |
9/1(+50%) | (1) Wickywickywheels 9/1, Five-time course winner. Latest win at Abu Dhabi in December. 9/1, eighth of 10 in handicap at this course (13f, good) 12 days ago, not knocked about once held. Five-time course winner but she's struggled this spring and needs to get back near best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (4.5/1 +10%) Wandering Rocks |
4.5/1(+10%) | (3) Wandering Rocks 4.5/1, Useful sort who showed he retains plenty of ability when mid-field on 11f Kempton reappearance last month. Respected back on turf for a Newmarket stable which doesn't have many runners up here. 4yo who still has scope for further progress and he's not ruled out back on turf. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (6.5/1 +46%) Heights Of Abraham |
6.5/1(+46%) | (8) Heights Of Abraham 6.5/1, Thirteen runs since last win in 2021. Eighth of 12 in handicap (16/1) at this course (13f, good) 5 days ago. Others are preferred. Has been laboured in both runs this term and last win was two years ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
GOOD SHOW returned to form with a third-placed finish at Hamilton recently and he holds leading claims if running to a similar level in this contest. Two Brothers arrives at the top of his game and shouldn't be underestimated on this rise in class, but a bigger threat could emerge from Wandering Rocks. James Fanshawe's charge weakened inside the final furlong on his comeback at Kempton last month and he has form on the turf to land a race of this nature.
The low-mileage GOOD SHOW can build on his sound third here earlier in the month and notch a second C&D success. Newmarket raider Wandering Rocks should strip fitter for his AW reappearance and is feared most ahead of last week's Chester runner-up Two Brothers.
7yo FAYLAQ has caught the eye with his placed efforts here in both his runs this season and he gets the vote ahead of Two Brothers.

2nd (2) (3.5/1 +30%) Macho Pride |
3.5/1(+30%) | (2) Macho Pride 3.5/1, Twenty seven runs since last win in 2021. Creditable second of 13 in handicap (9/2) at Newcastle (6f) 14 days ago. Well treated if he's able to back that up. Very well treated on his old form and was runner-up on AW last time; respected. |

9/1(-125%) | (11) Jkr Cobbler 9/1, Winner at Newcastle in January. Respectable fourth of 8 in minor event (2/1) at Newcastle (6f) 63 days ago. Shaping up nicely but needs things to drop right. Plenty of good efforts at Newcastle this year and has possibilities back on turf. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (9/1 -50%) Sam's Call |
9/1(-50%) | (4) Sam's Call 9/1, One win from 21 Flat runs. Eleven runs since last win in 2021. Respectable third of 13 in handicap at Newcastle (6f, 9/1) 14 days ago. Record of 1-21 but he's been consistent this year and has claims back on turf. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
There clearly wasn't much expected of BANNER ROAD at Musselburgh on her seasonal reappearance a fortnight ago, having gone off at 33/1, but she outran those odds when finishing second and that run may just have put her spot on for this. Macho Pride hinted at a return to form when runner-up at Newcastle earlier this month and looks dangerous, along with Basholo, who was a fine third at Ayr recently and appears to be on a winnable mark.
MACHO PRIDE is unexposed for his current yard and well treated on old form, so he's worth a chance to build on a good second at Newcastle by going one better. Jkr Cobbler is a danger and Basholo deserves respect on the back of a solid showing at Ayr.
An open race in which the vote goes to MACHO PRIDE, who showed clear signs of a revival when runner-up at Newcastle last week.

Made all at Musselburgh two weeks ago but he was vulnerable back there on Monday. |

5th (1) (7.5/1 -114%) Havana Party |
7.5/1(-114%) | (1) Havana Party 7.5/1, C&D winner. Yet to fire so far this season, though, fourth of 5 in handicap (13/2) at this C&D (good) 12 days ago. On a dangerous mark but revival needed. On dangerous mark but he's been out of form this year and needs to rediscover some spark. |

6th (7) (33/1 -106%) Jaminoz |
33/1(-106%) | (7) Jaminoz 33/1, After 7 months off, shaped as if needing the run when sixth of 8 in handicap at this course (6f, good, 25/1) 12 days ago. Could fare better back up in trip. Won at Ayr (7f, heavy) in October but has been well below that form in both runs since. |

7th (2) (4.5/1 +50%) St Andrew's Castle |
4.5/1(+50%) | (2) St Andrew's Castle 4.5/1, Latest win at Newcastle in March. However, failed to repeat his previous placed effort when sixth of 7 in handicap at Musselburgh (7.2f, good, 9/1) 4 days ago. Needs to quickly get back on track. AW win in March but he didn't fire at Musselburgh on Monday and others are more persuasive. |

8th (3) (22/1 -83%) Dark Company |
22/1(-83%) | (3) Dark Company 22/1, Went backwards from his previous run when fifth of 6 in handicap at Ayr (1m, good to firm, 5/1) 15 days ago, hanging left/carrying head awkwardly. Others more persuasive. Dual AW winner but he's 0-13 on turf and was well held back in this sphere last time. |

9th (5) (10/1 -11%) Chinese Spirit |
10/1(-11%) | (5) Chinese Spirit 10/1, C&D winner. Stepped up on reappearance run when 2¼ lengths fifth of 10 to Perfect Soldier in handicap at Musselburgh (9f, good, 28/1) 4 days ago, never nearer. Shortlisted. Dual course winner who didn't get much luck at Musselburgh on Monday; dangerous. |

10th (4) (28/1 -133%) Retirement Beckons |
28/1(-133%) | (4) Retirement Beckons 28/1, Four-time C&D winner. Probably needed the run after 6 months off when last of 5 in handicap (33/1) at this C&D (good) 12 days ago. This run should reveal more. Four-time C&D winner but he's never won off a mark this high and has some work to do. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
There was just over a length between Perfect Soldier (first) and OUR DICKIE (second) at Musselburgh four days ago, but, with the former now given a 4lb penalty, the vote goes to the Iain Jardine-trained gelding to turn the tables. He was staying on well that day and this uphill finish may just prove the difference this time around. Willing To Please appreciated a return to turf when third at Pontefract earlier this month and is worth a check in the betting.
WILLING TO PLEASE has been heading back in the right direction on her last 2 starts, running well when third at Pontefract earlier this month, so she could be ready to take advantage of her reduced mark this time around. Our Dickie is also down to a career-low mark and is feared most, ahead of Chinese Spirit.
The vote goes to WILLING TO PLEASE, who is on a dangerous mark and was placed behind a major improver at Pontefract last time.
Ths is the racecard key.
