15:50 Fontwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 18f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

INIGO was in the process of running a big race when he tipped up at the last at Southwell and having immediately made amends with an eyecatching display in first-time blinkers at Uttoxeter, the Moores' gelding is a striking option off just 7lb higher. No Mean Feat is also going the right way after two second-placed finishes in July and makes the shortlist along with the potentially progressive Atreides, who doesn't have much to find to be on the premises on his return.

A few with chances but INIGO looked to have more to offer when going in at Uttoxeter and can make light of a 7 lb rise. Sami Bear is feared most on the back of a resurgent second here, with handily-weighted Atreides and Cartmel runner-up No Mean Feat also in the picture.

Inigo is open to further progress but preference is for NO MEAN FEAT, who ran very well in defeat on his last two appearances.

16:25 Fontwell Handicap Chase (Class 5) 22f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

This course brought the best out of BELGARUM when he won here in June and that proven ability to handle the figure-of-eight layout will be a handy asset. Hampered and unseated at the first at Newton Abbot, his latest effort can easily be forgotten and a more accomplished performance is expected. Barrakhov has been in good form, although the drop in trip might not be ideal. Therefore, Invictus De Brion is suggested as better value for the forecast now he is back up in distance for his chasing bow.

PRIME PRETENDER is well handicapped on the form he showed in the 2022/23 season and 2 point wins in April suggest he could retain enough ability to take advantage of his reduced mark. Belgarum already has a course chase win to his name this summer and is second choice ahead of Barrakhov.

This can go to BELGARUM (nap), who won stylishly here in June and was not discredited when fourth in a competitive race soon afterwards.

17:00 Fontwell Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 18f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

An interesting recruit from the Flat, GLOBAL SKIES rates an attractive proposition for his NH debut and could be tough to resist if he takes to hurdles. Obviously, it is would be dangerous to be too dogmatic given his lack of jumping experience and support in the betting for Kalkaroo should be heeded on the back of a couple of promising efforts since he switched codes. Give It To Me Oj and Character Testing, also newcomers to timber, are others to consider.

GLOBAL SKIES attained a fairly useful level on the Flat and as a brother to a winning hurdler, hopes are high that he will take to this discipline. Give It To Me Oj is another likely sort now tackling obstacles, with Kalkaroo probably the pick of those with experience in this code.

Global Skies was slightly better than GIVE IT TO ME OJ on the Flat but the latter has less to prove on the stamina front.

17:35 Fontwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 22f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Earth Cry's winning run came to an end when fourth at Uttoxeter a month ago, but he was far from disgraced on that occasion and should not be discounted. That said, preference is still for STANS THE MAN, who was only narrowly denied off this mark over 2m7f at Worcester 11 days ago. River Robe was a beaten odds-on favourite at Market Rasen when last seen, but is another who could go well.

Things didn't pan out ideally for EARTH CRY when bidding for a hat-trick at Uttoxeter last month, so Neil Mulholland's 6-y-o is well worth another chance from his reassessed mark at the expense of Stans The Man, who has been rejuvenated by the fitting of cheekpieces and pulled clear with the winner at Worcester 11 days ago. River Robe looks best of the rest.

The pick is EARTH CRY, who has thrived this season, might still be on the upgrade and benefits from Dylan Johnston's useful 5lb claim.

BOLINTLEA put in a promising display when third on her return to action over 2m4f at Worcester last month. With the benefit of that outing and this step up in trip, the nine-year-old could take plenty of beating off the same mark. My Gift To You has been put up 5lb for a narrow second at the same venue, but he cannot be discounted. Cape Vidal edges out Jigginstown King to be best of the rest.

BOLINTLEA shaped well after 8 months off/a breathing operation when third at Worcester 6 weeks ago and is potentially on a good mark if building on that. The likeable My Gift To You is next best ahead of Cape Vidal.

A chance is taken on BROOK BAY who ran a positive second race over fences and this longer trip is well worth exploring.

Several went close on their latest starts, with preference for HAWAII DU MESTIVEL. The seven-year-old was having only his second outing in a handicap and first since January when runner-up at Uttoxeter, giving the impression this extra yardage would suit. Joker Du Chenet went agonisingly close at Stratford and his jockey's 5lb allowance helps his cause, while Bushmill Boy just failed to catch the winner at Uttoxeter on his debut for Olly Murphy and he is another to consider.

BUSHMILL BOY was strong in the betting starting out for Olly Murphy when just touched off at Uttoxeter last time and he's worth a chance to belatedly gain a first success. Hawaii du Mestivel and Joker du Chenet are both on the up and appeal as big threats. Support for Damask on debut for Dan Skelton would need following.

Dan Skelton won with a new recruit at Stratford on Tuesday and may do so again here with DAMASK, who was bought for £13,000 in May.

(1) Easter Icon 5/1, Fair handicapper on the Flat but hasn't made much of an impact in his 3 completed starts over hurdles so far. On the upside, none of these rivals look particularly solid either and he could do better now upped in trip and pitched into a handicap in this sphere.
Has not yet shown much over hurdles but is a fair stayer on the Flat (four wins).

Difficult to predict whether this step up in trip will prove to be in his favour or not.
Fair fourth over 2m1f on handicap debut and may fare better over today's trip.

(5) Lightening Gesture 15/2, Fair Flat winner who appeared to be getting the hang of things over hurdles when making the frame in handicaps at Bangor and Uttoxeter last August, latterly upped to 2½m and shaping as though this even stiffer test could be just the ticket. 12-month absence to overcome but big player all the same.
Absent since Uttoxeter third a year ago but returns on a 4lb lower mark.

(11) Ideal De Romay 8/1, Successful at the third attempt in Irish points and while the majority of his efforts over hurdles have lacked spark, there was more promise in his latest effort at Market Rasen (20.6f, good to firm). Step back up in trip looks a good move and he's a live each-way candidate.
Steadied the ship with respectablr fifth last month but still makes only limited appeal.

However, failed to repeat that upped to 2¾m last time and now tried in more severe headgear.
Went close at Newton Abbot in June and didn't run badly last time; headgear switched here.

19:20 Fontwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 22f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

LIGHTENING GESTURE makes a belated return to action having placed at Uttoxeter a year ago, but the five-year-old has gone quite well fresh before and can race of a potentially favourable mark. No More Bolero went close at at Newton Abbot before disappointing at Stratford and connections will be hoping the switch to a visor brings about a return to form. Royal Regard finished closer at Uttoxeter last time and is preferred to Trickalight of the rest.

A chance is taken on EASTER ICON, who was a four-time winner over 1¾m+ on the Flat and he could be about to leave his low-key hurdles form behind now switched to handicap company and faced with a stiffer test. Lightening Gesture will be a big threat if able to pick up where he left off last summer, while Trickalight is third choice ahead of Ideal de Romay.

This step up in trip should suit SELECTIVELISTENING, who shaped with promise over 2m1f on last month's handicap debut. He gets the nod.
