1st (6) (2.75/1 -10%) Gaye Winnie |
2.75/1(-10%) | (6) Gaye Winnie 2.75/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Third of 10 in novice hurdle (15/8) at this course (17.8f, good) 31 days ago, no extra only late on. Claims of hitting the frame again. Back from six months off when third here last month and likely to improve but needs to. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (22/1 +33%) Signora Di Milano |
22/1(+33%) | (9) Signora Di Milano 22/1, Little form in points discouraging start on Rules/hurdles debut when eleventh of 12 in novice hurdle at this course (21.8f) back in May. Has made a very interesting yard switch though, so interesting what the market makes of her. Tailed off on Rules debut over 2m6f here in May; first run for Gordon Elliott. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (8/1 -7%) Spice Diva |
8/1(-7%) | (10) Spice Diva 8/1, Once-raced maiden. 13/2, fifth of 10 in novice hurdle at this course (17.8f, good) on NH debut 31 days ago. Won point at Moira in April; around 3l behind Gaye Winnie on hurdling bow here last month. |

4.5/1(+31%) | (4) Artemis Angel 4.5/1, 11/1 and blinkered for 1st time, good third of 15 in novice hurdle at Killarney (22.8f, good) 23 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Peter Fahey. Hood back on. Lots of experience and form of latest third at Killarney (2m7f) has been boosted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (12) (50/1 +0%) Ruby Jules |
50/1(+0%) | (12) Ruby Jules 50/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 66/1 and tongue strap on for 1st time, ninth of 11 in maiden at Galway (7f, soft) 12 days ago. Switches from Flat to hurdles. 8/16 on last hurdle run. Modest maiden on the Flat and rated 87 after three runs in this discipline; unlikely. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (18/1 -13%) Meadow Soprano |
18/1(-13%) | (3) Meadow Soprano 18/1, 5-y-o mare half-sister to fairly useful 2¾m hurdle winner/useful staying chaser Some Neck. Fair form when dual winner around 1m on Flat in Denmark at 3 yrs, placed once in 2022: Market likely to prove the best guide now hurdling for new yard on back of 11 months off. Dual winner(1m/1m1f) on the Flat in Denmark; been off almost a year; yard/hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (1.5/1 +20%) Fortuna Favente |
1.5/1(+20%) | (5) Fortuna Favente 1.5/1, €100,000 3-y-o, Soldier of Fortune mare. Half-sister to 3 winners, including high-class hurdler/very smart chaser Appreciate It, stays 3m, and useful hurdler/chaser Danny Kirwan, stays 3m. Very interesting newcomer for good yard. Half-sister to winners Appreciate It cost E100,000 as 3yo and very likely to contend. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (100/1 -203%) Sally's Cave |
100/1(-203%) | (8) Sally's Cave 100/1, Court Cave mare. Dam unraced half-sister to useful chaser (stayed 4½m) Hello Bud and untrustworthy but fairly useful chaser (stayed 3m) The Musical Guy. Likely to be suited by further in due course. 6yo is first foal of unraced half-sister to Scottish National winner Hello Bud. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (2) (50/1 -127%) Hurricane Helen |
50/1(-127%) | (2) Hurricane Helen 50/1, Fair but unreliable handicapper on Flat (probably stays 1½m). Well below best when twelfth of 16 in handicap at Gowran (9.5f) 15 days ago. Not the easiest to weigh up now starting out over hurdles. Has run respectably in a few Flat claimers this year for current yard; hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (11) (200/1 -100%) Struell Duchess |
200/1(-100%) | (11) Struell Duchess 200/1, Twice-raced maiden. Seventh of 10 in novice hurdle (250/1) at this course (17.8f, good) 31 days ago. Modest form in points and long way behind a couple of these on second hurdles start here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
FORTUNA FAVENTE is a more than interesting newcomer. Barry Connell's five-year-old mare is related to several winners including Appreciate It who landed the Supreme Novices' Hurdle among his three Grade 1 hurdle victories. Fortuna Favente made six figures at the Sales and has to be given plenty of respect ahead of her debut. Gaye Winnie wasn't beaten far into third over slightly further at this track last month and wouldn't need to find much more to get off the mark. Artemis Angel has changed stables since finishing a close third in Killarney. The form of that race has been franked, so she should be involved. Franno has been in decent nick on the Flat and could show up better on her fifth crack at hurdles. John McConnell brings Meadow Soprano up for her Irish debut and a market check is advised.
Those with previous form don't set a tall standard so it could well be worth siding with debutante FORTUNA FAVENTE. She makes plenty of appeal on paper (half-sister to high-class hurdler Appreciate It) for a good yard and it would come as no surprise to see her play a lead role. Gaye Winnie and Artemis Angel are others fancied to be thereabouts.
The well-bred FORTUNA FAVENTE cost plenty and starts off in an ordinary contest; Artemis Angel is possibly her biggest danger

1st (2) (0.57/1 +43%) An Mhi |
0.57/1(+43%) | (2) An Mhi 0.57/1, Useful hurdler. Easily landed the odds in 4-runner novice hurdle at Uttoxeter (19.9f, good) 42 days ago. Holds very good form claims. Completed a hat-trick by winning weak races in Britain, may cope with shorter trip now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (8/1 -129%) Annexation |
8/1(-129%) | (1) Annexation 8/1, Useful hurdler. Ninth of 11 in handicap hurdle (8/1) at Listowel (16f, good) 69 days ago. Yard in good form so could easily bounce back. No hurdles win in over two years, seems flattered by his current handicap rating of 130. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (7.5/1 +17%) Gordons Aura |
7.5/1(+17%) | (6) Gordons Aura 7.5/1, Fairly useful hurdler. Eighth of 12 in novice hurdle (20/1) at Galway (16.6f, soft) 13 days ago. Needs to take a step forward. Overall profile is unconvincing but could not be ruled out with a talented claimer aboard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (4.5/1 +0%) Weddell Sea |
4.5/1(+0%) | (4) Weddell Sea 4.5/1, Fairly useful hurdler. One win from 3 runs last season. 28/1 and blinkered for 1st time, sixteenth of 20 in handicap hurdle at Galway (16f, good) 9 days ago. Tongue strap back on and not discounted. Spoiled his chance at Galway by racing too keenly, two good runs before that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (25/1 -56%) Willyouwalkwithme |
25/1(-56%) | (5) Willyouwalkwithme 25/1, Fair hurdler. 3-time C&D winner. Two wins from 6 runs last season. First run since leaving Harry Smyth when fell 1st in handicap hurdle (12/1) at Perth (16.2f, good to soft) 11 days ago. Uphill task. Boasts a fine record at this venue but others are better suited by these race conditions. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (28/1 -180%) Play The Game |
28/1(-180%) | (3) Play The Game 28/1, Fairly useful chaser. Below-form sixth of 13 in handicap hurdle (25/1) at Tipperary (16f, good). Off 10 months. Tongue strap back on. Needs to hit the ground running after his absence. 3-25 over hurdles, has failed to add to his tally since 2020 chase win, off for ten months. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
AN MHI is in a rich vein of form and could bring up the four-timer for Gordon Elliott. He began his winning run with an easy success in a Ballinrobe maiden hurdle in May and has since been sent across the Irish Sea to land novice hurdle events in Perth and Uttoxeter. Elliott has a superb record at this northern venue. Weddell Sea is a worthy opponent. He was placed in two decent handicap hurdles at Listowel and Kilbeggan which earned him a shot at a valuable contest in Galway last week where he finished unplaced. He is well versed in small fields, though. Gordons Aura also represents Elliott and has the ability to get involved off bottom-weight, while Annexation could return to form in this company.
AN MHI is a useful sort who holds the edge at these weights and he can follow up his easy Uttoxeter success, at the chief expense of Weddell Sea. Annexation appeals as the pick of the rest for minor honours.
Winner of three races in a row without having any sort of serious test, AN MHI may cope with the drop in trip to extend his sequence

1st (8) (7/1 +0%) Gwan Tadhg |
7/1(+0%) | (8) Gwan Tadhg 7/1, Ninth of 14 in handicap hurdle (2/1) at Clonmel (16.8f, heavy). Off 6 months but handily weighted if ready to roll on his comeback. Fair sixth at Cork last December, tailed off when favourite at Clonmel in January. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (11/1 +50%) Fassbender |
11/1(+50%) | (1) Fassbender 11/1, C&D winner. 25/1, eleventh of 15 in handicap hurdle at Ballinrobe (17f, good) 19 days ago. Cheekpieces on for 1st time now. Nothing of any merit in his form since he was a 2m6f course winner 13 months ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (2.12/1 +61%) Crafty Gael |
2.12/1(+61%) | (4) Crafty Gael 2.12/1, Good second of 14 in handicap hurdle at Wexford (16.8f, good to soft, 7/1) 37 days ago. Can make presence felt despite a 2 lb rise. Engaged 5.55 Kilbeggan Saturday. Form of Wexford run has been boosted, second in the 5.55 at Kilbeggan on Saturday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (6.5/1 +28%) Sandyman |
6.5/1(+28%) | (5) Sandyman 6.5/1, Fair Flat winner. Thrice-raced maiden over hurdles. First run for yard after leaving James McAuley. Bit below form on last hurdle outing but still not ruled out on his yard/handicap hurdle debut. Three-time Flat winner, limited hurdling experience, first outing for this stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (14) (25/1 +24%) Monoxide |
25/1(+24%) | (14) Monoxide 25/1, Remains a maiden after 27 NH runs. 18/1, seventh of 8 in handicap chase at Perth (16f, good to soft) 11 days ago. Switches from chase to hurdles. Needs a couple of these to falter. Flat winner, has failed to score in 27 races over jumps, modest form in Britain lately. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (6/1 +20%) Woodstream Lad |
6/1(+20%) | (9) Woodstream Lad 6/1, 50/1 and blinkered for 1st time, excellent third of 10 in handicap hurdle at Sligo (16.9f, good) 35 days ago. Can give another good account with headgear retained. Showed huge improvement at Sligo when blinkered for the first time, more progress feasible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (66/1 -100%) Moneynabane |
66/1(-100%) | (3) Moneynabane 66/1, Lightly-raced maiden under NH rules. 66/1 and blinkered/tongue strap on for 1st time, ninth of 11 in novice hurdle at Perth (20.2f, good to soft) 12 days ago. More is needed on his handicap hurdle debut. Maiden pointer, track form is weak, does not appear well treated for his first handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (15) (14/1 -17%) Mullins Cross |
14/1(-17%) | (15) Mullins Cross 14/1, One win from 25 NH runs. Fair fourth of 14 in handicap hurdle at Wexford (16.8f, good to soft, 33/1) 37 days ago. Sixteen runs since last win in 2021. Hard to be confident on account of 1-21 hurdles record, decent effort at Wexford last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (13) (12/1 +25%) Lesssaidthebetter |
12/1(+25%) | (13) Lesssaidthebetter 12/1, Respectable seventh of 14 in handicap chase at Kilbeggan (19f, soft, 13/2) 23 days ago. Switches from chase to hurdles. Cheekpieces back on. Remains a maiden after 32 NH runs. Last six races have been over fences, chance is not obvious off his higher hurdles mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (2) (11/1 +31%) Lariat |
11/1(+31%) | (2) Lariat 11/1, 18/1, ninth of 10 in handicap hurdle at Punchestown (19.6f, good) 63 days ago, finding little. Others more persuasive. Only 2-52 on Flat but often placed, 0-13 over hurdles, hard to make a strong case for him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (10) (28/1 +44%) Copia Verborum |
28/1(+44%) | (10) Copia Verborum 28/1, Tenth of 14 in handicap at Ayr (10f, good, 50/1) 35 days ago. Switches from Flat to hurdles with more required. A long time since he showed his best form, has run creditably at this track on occasion. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (7) (20/1 -135%) Finches Cross |
20/1(-135%) | (7) Finches Cross 20/1, 8/1, very good fifth of 16 in handicap hurdle at Tramore (16f, good). Off 13 months so he needs to hit the ground running. Handicap debut at Tramore 13 months ago was encouraging, could go well if ft and ready. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (11) (16/1 +43%) Self Assessed |
16/1(+43%) | (11) Self Assessed 16/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Off 15 months. First run for yard after leaving Gearoid Patrick Brouder. Poor on last hurdle run so lots to prove on his handicap hurdle debut. Absent for well over a year and having his first outing for this stable, up against it. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Mark McNiff has been among the winners recently and a chance is taken on his FASSBENDER. He hasn't been at his best in better company, but has been dropped 2lb and just gets into this basement grade. It is worth noting that he won on his last visit here and has a very good record in Downpatrick. Cheekpieces are fitted for the first time. Woodstream Lad certainly outran his 50/1 odds when third in an opportunity handicap hurdle at Sligo last month. That run came off a break of almost nine months and Mike O'Connor, who rides this track well, has been booked again. He would want the ground to dry out a bit. Silverstrand is a long-standing maiden, but is a threat on the back of a runner-up spot in Kilbeggan last month.
Lots with chances. SILVERSTRAND is knocking on the door so is taken to gain an overdue first victory off just a 1 lb higher mark than when a good recent Kilbeggan second. Woodstream Lad rates a big threat though on the back of his Sligo third in first-time blinkers, with the returning Gwan Tadhg weighted to have a say if fully tuned up.
With Crafty Gael due to run at Kilbeggan on Saturday, WOODSTREAM LAD is a hopeful choice after his 50-1 Sligo third

2nd (5) (6/1 -20%) The Grey Monty |

Switches from chase to hurdles. Makes handicap hurdle debut. Ran poorly in Cartmel chase just under a year ago and not seen since; handicap hurdle bow. |

3rd (7) (5.5/1 +39%) Game And Glory |
5.5/1(+39%) | (7) Game And Glory 5.5/1, One win from 21 NH runs. 9/1, below form fourth of 14 in handicap hurdle at Kilbeggan (18f, soft) 23 days ago. Back up in trip. Good third at Leopardstown in March but hasn't shown that kind of form since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (7/1 +50%) Lighthouse Rose |
7/1(+50%) | (3) Lighthouse Rose 7/1, 3-time C&D winner. Seventh of 14 in handicap hurdle (50/1) at Kilbeggan (18f, soft) 23 days ago. Back up in trip. Blinkers on 1st time. All three wins have come over C&D, two of them in this race; blinkers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (16/1 +52%) Frazel Express |
16/1(+52%) | (6) Frazel Express 16/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2022. Sixteenth of 18 in handicap hurdle at Galway (16.5f, good to soft, 66/1) 11 days ago. Significantly back up in trip. Fourth in a lower grade at Ballinrobe was okay but outclassed at Galway. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (3.5/1 -100%) Theonewedreamof |
3.5/1(-100%) | (4) Theonewedreamof 3.5/1, Disappointed on the Flat at Galway recently but had been good form prior under both codes prior to that and capable of bouncing back. Disappointed on the level at Galway when well fancied but will relish every yard of trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|RR| (2) (2.25/1 +0%) Howaya C D And E |
2.25/1(+0%) | (2) Howaya C D And E 2.25/1, Creditable second of 8 in maiden hurdle (10/3) at this course (21.8f, good) 31 days ago. Makes handicap hurdle debut. One to consider. Good second to a higher-rated rival here last month and every chance now on handicap bow. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Eyes are drawn to Lighthouse Rose who has won two of the last three renewals of this race. She has been out of form since winning at this track in August, but gets first-time blinkers and is dangerous. THEONEWEDREAMOF posted solid placed efforts at this venue in May and at Cork in July, so a second victory over hurdles doesn't look far away. She is up in trip after keeping on over 2m4f in Cork. Fruit Blossom came in second over a similar trip at this track in April which brings her into contention. Howaya C D And E won her bumper here and also didn't run badly in second when last seen in a maiden hurdle at this venue last month, albeit that wasn't a deep race. The Grey Monty has a long absence to overcome, but has been placed in three of her four races over flights.
THEONEWEDREAMOF can probably be forgiven a lesser run in a big-field Flat handicap at Galway last month and her recent hurdle form is very solid. Second choice is Howaya C D And E who has been runner-up twice in maiden company here this summer and looks on a workable mark for this rather belated handicap debut. Gordon Elliott's Fruit Blossom may prove best of the rest.
The first-time blinkered Lighthouse Rose bids for her third win in this race but handicap debutant HOWAYA C D AND E is preferred

1st (2) (5/1 +58%) Invictus World |
5/1(+58%) | (2) Invictus World 5/1, Lightly-raced winner under NH rules. Good fourth of 13 in novice hurdle at this course (18.8f, good to soft, 18/1) 100 days ago. Tongue strap on for 1st time. Has something to find on form though. Bumper winner was well held fourth here in May; back from a break and tongue-tie is tried. |

2nd (1) (14/1 +30%) Cozone |
14/1(+30%) | (1) Cozone 14/1, Fair hurdler. 80/1, fifteenth of 19 in handicap hurdle at Galway (16.6f, soft) 13 days ago. Significantly back up in trip with work to do. Useful stayer on the level but hasn't matched that over hurdles yet and not in great form. |

3rd (3) (3/1 +60%) Notkeepinyagoing |
3/1(+60%) | (3) Notkeepinyagoing 3/1, Thrice-raced winner under NH rules. Fairly useful winner at 17f in bumpers. Fifth of 13 in novice hurdle at Wexford (20.4f, good, 5/2) on hurdles bow 53 days ago. Can improve so she's no forlorn hope. Bumper winner was soundly beaten when favourite for hurdling debut at Wexford in June. |

4th (4) (20/1 +60%) Josies Dylan |
20/1(+60%) | (4) Josies Dylan 20/1, Once-raced maiden. Thirteenth of 16 in novice hurdle at Galway (21f, good to soft, 50/1) on NH debut 11 days ago. Lots more is required. Second on his fourth start in points in May; 50s, tailed off on hurdles bow at Galway. |

5th (8) (33/1 +18%) Rust To Riches |
33/1(+18%) | (8) Rust To Riches 33/1, Modest chaser. Pulled up in handicap chase (33/1) at Perth (23.8f, good to soft) 11 days ago. Goes over hurdles with lots to prove. Point winner in May; hasn't done much in hunter/handicap chases since; hurdles debut. |

Leading claims on pick of his form. Beaten just half-a-length at Tipperary (2m4f) in April; has disappointed twice since. |

|U| (9) (4.5/1 +47%) Zettabyte |
4.5/1(+47%) | (9) Zettabyte 4.5/1, Fairly useful maiden hurdler. Badly hampered 5 out when pulled up in novice hurdle (8/1) at Kilbeggan (19f, soft) 30 days ago. Well worth another chance. Third to stablemate An Mhi (runs in 2.40) at Ballinrobe in May; well held here next time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Out of action for over two years after winning a point-to-point, GENTLE AND KIND will have delighted connections when finishing second at Kilbeggan last month on Rules debut. She steps up in trip by a couple of furlongs and can go one place better under Rachael Blackmore. Rule The Wind was soundly beaten at Tramore last time but may have found the trip a bit sharp. He was narrowly foiled over 2m4f at Tipperary in the spring and this test of stamina should suit better. The locally-trained Invictus World won a bumper at Navan last year and was a fair fourth on his second hurdles start at this venue. He's back from a break and may improve for the application of a tongue-tie.
RULE THE WIND wasn't at his best when third at Tramore last time but possesses much the best form on offer so is fancied to bounce back in style now stepping up in distance. Zettabyte didn't enjoy the rub of the green when pulled up at Kilbeggan and can emerge as the chief threat ahead of Notkeepinyagoing, who showed fairly useful winning form in bumpers and can build on her Wexford hurdling debut fifth.
Second to a useful mare on hurdling debut at Kilbeggan, GENTLE AND KIND (nap) should be hard to beat

NUTTORRIDGE regularly makes the trip east from his stable in Sligo to run at Downpatrick and his two career wins have come at this venue. He did little wrong when runner-up over C&D last month and the horse that beat him followed up under a penalty a week later. Prior to his tumble at Limerick, Tuff Days had been most consistent and went down by only half a length on his most recent completed start at Kilbeggan. He stays further than this and is likely to contend again. How Decc has shown a bit of improvement lately and is now tried in cheekpieces. Runner-up to an easy winner over fences at Tipperary, he wasn't beaten far when fourth over a trip similar to this at Limerick last time and is partnered by an in-form claimer.
Mark McNiff's NUTTORRIDGE arrives on the back of 2 solid in-frame efforts this spring and is taken to resume winning ways under Phillip Enright. Tuff Days has been knocking on the door and rates a likely threat if none the worse for a fall at Limerick last time. How Decc is another to consider, while Gavin Cromwell handicap newcomer Across The Ocean and the Charles Byrnes-trained I Am Spider Man are a couple to keep an eye on in the betting.
Dual course winner NUTTORRIDGE looks the part on the evidence of his second here last time since the winner followed up at Killarney

Willie Mullins had had a couple of beaten favourites in bumpers in recent days but his strike-rate in these races is still awesome and UNCLE PAT looks a likely sort on pedigree. The Well Chosen gelding is a brother to smart jumpers Kylecrue and Adamantly Chosen and the latter was a bumper winner on debut. Nakatomi Plaza starts off for Gordon Elliott and is a Flat-bred son of Born To Sea. His half-sister was a Group 3 winner over six furlongs as a two-year-old. Of those that have run before, Kalanisi Flash makes most appeal. The dual point-to-point winner was runner-up at this venue in May and is probably better judged on that than a very disappointing effort at Kilbeggan a couple of weeks later.
This may develop into a straight fight between Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott newcomers UNCLE PAT and Nakatomi Plaza, with a narrow preference for the former before any market pointers. Kalanisi Flash is clear pick of those with experience.
Willie Mullins' strike-rate in bumpers has dipped a fraction but it's still pretty awesome and UNCLE PAT can be another winner for him
Ths is the racecard key.
