1st (1) (5/4 -72%) Katate Dori |
5/4(-72%) | (1) Katate Dori 5/4, Bumper winner in early 2023 who immediately bettered his hurdles form when easily making a successful debut over fences at Exeter on New Year's Day. More to come and obvious claims under a penalty. Very well treated under a penalty if he's in the same form as for Exeter win four days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (6/1 +57%) Stellar Stream |
6/1(+57%) | (4) Stellar Stream 6/1, Gained a deserved breakthrough success over fences (in first-time cheekpieces) in staying event at Bangor. Failed to complete next 2 starts and looked rusty at Ffos Lason return but better than bare result at Exeter last month. Not taken lightly back on winning mark with headgear re-applied. Won at Bangor (3m6f, heavy) off this mark last February and the cheekpieces return today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (22/1 -38%) Fortunefavorsdbold |
22/1(-38%) | (6) Fortunefavorsdbold 22/1, Fair winning hurdler in Ireland and left previous form for this yard well behind with a brace of handicap chase wins at Huntingdon/Lingfield. Struggled since, however. Cheekpieces went on for two wins last term; may prove best watched until they return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (10/1 +60%) The Big Reveal |
10/1(+60%) | (7) The Big Reveal 10/1, Yet to match debut hurdles form, including switched to fences handicaps this season after 20 months off, tried in this headgear when seventh at Lingfield latest. Lightly raced; falling in the weights but others still have much more solid claims on form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (13/2 -8%) Ultra Beat |
13/2(-8%) | (2) Ultra Beat 13/2, Improved model this term, second on handicap chase debut at Bangor (3m) in October. Fell early at Hereford but quickly back on track when third at Warwick last month. Likely to stay long distances. Placed this term in two 3m handicap chases; another good chance to be placed, at least. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (7/2 +56%) Shot Boii |
7/2(+56%) | (5) Shot Boii 7/2, Becoming well handicapped and showed enough when third at Lingfield last month to suggest he'll be able to take advantage near to hand, no extra only late on. Put up a bold show at Lingfield four weeks ago which puts him into serious calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (14/1 -17%) Fairlawn Flyer |
14/1(-17%) | (3) Fairlawn Flyer 14/1, Won at Cartmel in August 2023 and looked set to coast in at Fontwell the following month only to go lame before 3 out. Off 15 months after that but shaped as if retaining ability when fourth at Kelso on comeback 4 weeks ago. Absent 15 months before an encouraging fourth at Kelso four weeks ago when upped to 4m. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
KATATE DORI started the new year with a bang on his chasing bow at Exeter, coming clear of the opposition up the home straight, and a 7lb penalty may not be enough to stop him from making it a quickfire double. Ultra Beat is likely to benefit from the extra couple of furlongs judged on his third at Warwick last month, while Shot Boii is capable of being in the mix too.
KATATE DORI took very well to his new discipline when making a winning chase bow at Exeter on Wednesday and can defy a penalty given how much he had in hand that day. Stellar Stream was better than the bare result at Exeter last month and is interesting back on a winning mark with cheekpieces re-fitted, while Shot Boii shaped as if his turn is near at Lingfield.
Katate Dori is the one to beat on his Exeter win but this is just four days later. SHOT BOII is one of several who need respect.

Nowmelad |
(1) (10/11 +48%)10/11(+48%) | (1) Nowmelad 10/11, Made all in 2m maiden at Uttoxeter in October and novice at Hereford following month. LIkeable type and not ruled out despite conceding weight all round. Can front-run; has won at Uttoxeter and Hereford but now gives at least 10lb all round. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Carismatic Soldier |
(4) (6/5 +100%)6/5(+100%) | (4) Carismatic Soldier 6/5, Failed to land the odds but shaped well when second of 6 in novice hurdle at Leicester (15.5f, heavy) on his hurdles bow 31 days ago. Holds leading claims with more to offer. Second in a bumper at Huntingdon and novice at Leicester; the standout candidate on form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cornish Comedy |
(5) (25/1 -25%)25/1(-25%) | (5) Cornish Comedy 25/1, 10/3, fourth of 7 in bumper at Uttoxeter 9 months ago on his sole run for Mel Rowley. Hooded for yard/hurdles bow and can't be discounted. Backed for bumper (heavy) last April but soundly beaten; left Mel Rowley for £8,000 in May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
C'est Different |
(3) (33/1 0%)33/1(0%) | (3) C'est Different 33/1, 22/1, well-held fifth of 11 in novice hurdle at Windsor (16f, good to soft) on hurdles bow 21 days ago. Needs a big step forward. Midfield in a bumper at Chepstow and maiden hurdle at Windsor, but beaten more than 30l. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Magna Victor |
(8) (33/1 +0%)33/1(+0%) | (8) Magna Victor 33/1, Raced freely when fifth of 8 in bumper at Perth 7 months ago. More is needed on his hurdles debut. Ran in two Perth bumpers last spring, easily better effort on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
On The Go |
(9) (40/1 -60%)40/1(-60%) | (9) On The Go 40/1, Twice-raced maiden, a well-held sixth of 13 in novice hurdle at Southwell (15.8f, good to soft) 20 days ago. More is required. Weakened in closing stages over 2m at Hereford (fell at the last) and Southwell (18l 6th). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Following Chapter |
(6) (40/1 +39%)40/1(+39%) | (6) Following Chapter 40/1, Shaped as if in need of the experience on debut when ninth of 13 in maiden hurdle here (19.4f, good) 44 days ago, racing freely. Can take a step forward. 150-1 for maiden hurdle here (2m3f, good to soft) in November and was beaten 26l. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Out Out |
(10) (50/1 -52%)50/1(-52%) | (10) Out Out 50/1, Shaped well when runner-up in bumper at Warwick in October 2023 but has offered little both hurdling starts 14 months later. In good hands but has a lot to prove. Second in a bumper in 2023 but two remote finishes in 2m maiden hurdles this winter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Head Over Hinds |
(7) (50/1 +24%)50/1(+24%) | (7) Head Over Hinds 50/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 100/1, first run since leaving Gary Moore when third of 10 in novice hurdle at Hereford (19.7f, good to soft) 25 days ago. Needs to build on it. First run for new connections was modest form; may do better but hard to fancy just yet. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Pooley's Promise |
(11) (100/1 0%)100/1(0%) | (11) Pooley's Promise 100/1, 150/1, ninth of 11 in bumper at Ludlow 32 days ago. Lot more is required on her hurdles debut. 150-1, disputed the lead long way when about 16l ninth of 11 in bumper at Ludlow. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Nowmelad bids for a third success over hurdles having been found an excellent opportunity at Hereford in November. That said, this would be the softest ground he has encountered and the vote, therefore, goes to CARISMATIC SOLDIER. Runner-up on his hurdling bow at Leicester, the six-year-old is entitled to be sharper for the experience and may take advantage of the 10lb he receives from his likely main market rival. Boston Boy has the ability to be competitive if producing a clear round after running out on his last couple of starts.
CARISMATIC SOLDIER made a promising start when runner-up in a Leicester novice and looks to have been found an excellent opportunity to go one better here. Dual-scorer Nowmelad appeals as the one to chase home Olly Murphy's son of Soldier of Fortune, with hurdling-newcomer Cornish Comedy and the unexposed Following Chapter the pick of the rest for minor honours.
Dual hurdle winner Nowmelad has a 10lb penalty. He also very few viable opponents but CARISMATIC SOLDIER is the clear pick.

Clondaw General |
(1) (4/5 -50%)4/5(-50%) | (1) Clondaw General 4/5, £150,000 purchase on the back of Irish point success and landed 23f novice hurdle at Worcester on his debut in October before a very good fourth in 3m Cheltenham Grade 2 last time. Big shout. Won Irish point and 2m7f novice; Cheltenham Grade 2 fourth confirms he sets the standard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Prophesea |
(2) (5/4 +23%)5/4(+23%) | (2) Prophesea 5/4, Progressive type who got off the mark in this sphere in 13-runner novice hurdle at Wincanton (19.8f, soft) 19 days ago. Has more to offer over this longer trip. Player. Point, bumper and 2m4f Wincanton novice hurdle winner; this move up in trip will help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Copper Jack |
(4) (10/1 +17%)10/1(+17%) | (4) Copper Jack 10/1, Took a step forward when fourth of 5 in novice hurdle at Ascot (21.6f, good to soft, 100/1) on hurdles bow 43 days ago. Needs to back it up now. Engaged Wincanton 12.23 Saturday. Irish point winner; low-key start over hurdles but very stiff task at Ascot; has ability. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A Force To Reckin |
(3) (66/1 +34%)66/1(+34%) | (3) A Force To Reckin 66/1, 80/1, pulled up in novice hurdle at Warwick (21f, soft) on NH debut 24 days ago. Significantly more is required. Failed to complete in his two Irish maiden points and pulled up in a 2m5f maiden hurdle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
High Joker |
(5) (66/1 +0%)66/1(+0%) | (5) High Joker 66/1, Cheekpieces on for 1st time when third of 5 in novice hurdle at Stratford (22f) 7 months ago. Has plenty to find on form. No form claims after his two hurdle races last spring; cheekpieces were added last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Pennant Legacy |
(6) (100/1 +0%)100/1(+0%) | (6) Pennant Legacy 100/1, Lightly-raced maiden hurdler and only poor form shown thus far. Cheekpieces go on for the first time. Heavy defeats in a bumper and three hurdle races; cheekpieces now. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
CLONDAW GENERAL wasn't at all disgraced when fourth in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham last month and more testing conditions on this occasion are likely to see him in a better light. Prophesea got off the mark over timber at Wincanton but will need to improve on that display against the selection, especially with Chris Down's gelding stepping up in trip. High Joker appears best of the remainder.
CLONDAW GENERAL posted a very good fourth in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham last time out and can resume winning ways back in these calmer waters. Chris Down's Wincanton scorer Prophesea should ensure he does't have things all his own way however, with Copper Jack next on the list.
Clondaw General has done clearly the most but PROPHESEA might just improve sufficiently now that he is stepped up in trip.

Illico De Cotte |
(2) (13/8 -18%)13/8(-18%) | (2) Illico De Cotte 13/8, Irish point/maiden hurdle winner who showed much-improved form when making a winning chase bow at Carlisle (3¼m, good to soft) in October. Ran at least as well when third at the same course last month and he remains with potential as a chaser with headgear re-fitted. Better switched to fences in handicaps at Carlisle this term and stays 3m2f; headgear back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Phantom Getaway |
(5) (9/2 +10%)9/2(+10%) | (5) Phantom Getaway 9/2, Winning Irish pointer/hurdler. No show in 3 starts over fences last season but fared much better (had a breathing operation and tongue tied) when second at Ffos Las on return. Went backwards in a big way at Ludlow last month, however, so needs to bounce back. Too many poor shows for comfort but he was also second at Ffos Las (3m) two starts back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Livin On Luco |
(3) (7/1 -40%)7/1(-40%) | (3) Livin On Luco 7/1, Consistent rather than progressive over hurdles and bettered that form albeit fortuitously when making a winning start over fences at Newton Abbot under this rider on return. Struggled in better event at Cheltenham since but worth another chance back down in class. Engaged 1.33 Wincanton Saturday. Beaten long way at Cheltenham (good to soft) latest but best on slower; possible reviver. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Having found two subsequent winners too strong at Carlisle, compensation could be on the cards for ILLICO DE COTTE. A 2lb nudge up the ratings looks surmountable for Dan Skelton's charge and he edges the vote over chase debutant Ballybentragh. The eight-year-old produced some decent efforts in novice hurdle company last season and he's entitled to strip fitter for his eighth-placed reappearance in the Gerry Feilden. Phantom Getaway is the pick of the remainder.
ILLICO DE COTTE has made a positive start over fences this season, making a winning return at Carlise before surrounded by subsequent winners when third there last month, and he can resume winning ways. Ballybentragh and Mahland should both come on for their comeback runs now going chasing and are possible threats.
Illico De Cotte has made a successful transition to fences but BALLYBENTRAGH could prove a potent force on today's chase debut.

Jeffery's Cross |
(1) (5/2 +9%)5/2(+9%) | (1) Jeffery's Cross 5/2, Low-mileage 9-y-o who took his form up a notch when gaining a first win over fences at Haydock in April 2023. Shaped as if as good as ever after returning from 19 months off when third of 5 in handicap at Windsor (24.2f, good to soft) 3 weeks ago and entitled to come on from that. Returned from long absence with quite pleasing run last month; still on a workable mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Thor De Cerisy |
(2) (11/4 +8%)11/4(+8%) | (2) Thor De Cerisy 11/4, Back-to-back C&D winner in the second half of last season but he ended that campaign on a downer and started this one with another tame effort. However, got back on track when runner-up at Lingfield (20f, soft) just under 4 weeks ago and may well build on that back here. Dual C&D winner last season and returns here after decent run at Lingfield last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Gyenyame |
(5) (3/1 +14%)3/1(+14%) | (5) Gyenyame 3/1, Fairly useful Flat/hurdles winner who has the size to make a chaser and built on his debut over fences when off the mark easily at Exeter in November. Moody display when well-beaten third at Wincanton (20.2f, soft) since so no surprise to see first-time blinkers applied. Comfortable winner of weak race two runs ago; blinkers on after laboured effort last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Enjoy Your Life |
(4) (6/1 -33%)6/1(-33%) | (4) Enjoy Your Life 6/1, Won a pair of handicap chases around 3m last winter and reappeared with an encouraging second over C&D in November. Ran poorly at Exeter since but fancied to leave that effort behind back down in trip. Good second over C&D on seasonal debut but struggled next time; not one to rely upon. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Captain Boudet |
(6) (8/1 +20%)8/1(+20%) | (6) Captain Boudet 8/1, Lightly-raced maiden who made a positive return to the fray when third of 18 in 19.5f course handicap in November. Similar form when mid-division at Exeter (21.6f, heavy) since and now attentions are turned to the larger obstacles (third in Irish point). Tongue tie added to usual cheekpieces. Placed in big-field handicap hurdle here in November and looks interesting on chase debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The fitting of first-time blinkers could perk Gyenyame up after putting in an inauspicious round of jumping at Wincanton and it's too soon to be writing him off. JEFFERY'S CROSS offered plenty of encouragement when finishing third on his return from a 581-day absence at Windsor, though, and any improvement should make him tough to beat. Dual C&D winner Thor De Cerisy is also noted.
The Skelton team has taken things up a notch in recent weeks and JEFFERY'S CROSS can provide them with yet another winner after an encouraging reappearance third at Windsor after 19 months off recently. Thor de Cerisy was a dual C&D winner in the second half of last season, so he heads up the dangers returned to this venue, with Enjoy Your Life rounding off the shortlist provided he can put a dismal effort behind him.
Chase debutant CAPTAIN BOUDET ran a game race when placed in a big-field handicap hurdle here two starts ago and still has low mileage.

(5) (5/1 +29%)5/1(+29%) | (5) New Found Fame 5/1, First success since his debut when taking a 19.5f Bangor handicap in first-time cheekpieces (retained) last month. Should remain competitive up 5 lb. Kept on well to score in first-time cheekpieces last month; still well treated on old form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Valens Bruyee |
(4) (6/1 +14%)6/1(+14%) | (4) Valens Bruyee 6/1, Dual hurdle winner last season, including a 2m course novice. Failed to take to fences on first 2 runs this season but back on track over hurdles in refitted cheekpieces when head second in Ffos Las handicap 17 days ago. Respected under Pritchard. Pulled up in two autumn chases but ran big race in defeat when back over hurdles last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dangerous Touch |
(6) (7/1 -17%)7/1(-17%) | (6) Dangerous Touch 7/1, £135,000 buy after finishing runner-up sole outing in Irish points. Improved effort over hurdles when fourth in 2m Warwick maiden in November and can likely do better again for leading stable now handicapping over further. Big player. Improved form when fourth in 2m novice in November; can progress again in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Alan De Banks |
(1) (8/1 +27%)8/1(+27%) | (1) Alan De Banks 8/1, Bumper winner in the summer. Has reached the frame in a pair of maiden hurdles around this trip in recent months and rates a possible improver in handicaps. In the frame both hurdling starts; could easily have improvement to come in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hawk Stone |
(8) (8/1 +0%)8/1(+0%) | (8) Hawk Stone 8/1, Improver in 2m handicaps last spring, finishing second on first 2 attempts before going one better at Uttoxeter (heavy) in April. Shapes as if this step up in trip will suit and claims if fully primed after 9 months off. Opened account over 2m at Uttoxeter last April; still lightly raced; has fitness to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Casual Observer |
(3) (10/1 -233%)10/1(-233%) | (3) Casual Observer 10/1, Showed promise in 3 novice hurdles at the beginning of 2024. From a good yard and rates a likely improver now handicapping on his return. Market confidence could prove significant. Promising in novice hurdles in early 2024; makes handicap debut after layoff; shortlisted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Golden Maverick |
(2) (14/1 +0%)14/1(+0%) | (2) Golden Maverick 14/1, A fairly useful 5-time winner on the Flat for Ian Williams and scored twice hurdling for current yard in the spring. Respectable fourth of 8 at Lingfield (19.5f, soft) last month while typically looking a hard time. Could benefit from a first-time visor. Raced lazily when fourth at Lingfield last month; visor added to keep him focused here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Risk D'argent |
(7) (16/1 -14%)16/1(-14%) | (7) Risk D'argent 16/1, It's now 14 runs since his last win in 2021. Made a respectable reappearance when third over 2m at Bangor last month but that losing run dents confidence. No win since 2021 but was plucky in defeat behind bang-in-form rival last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Loki's Mischief |
(10) (16/1 -14%)16/1(-14%) | (10) Loki's Mischief 16/1, Runner-up on the first of 2 starts in bumpers. Ony modest form when reaching frame in 2 hurdles this autumn (close second at Taunton latterly came in a weak 4-runner race) but this longer trip should suit now hurdling. Tricky to weigh up after his small-field second in November but remains very unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wot You Wearing |
(12) (20/1 +39%)20/1(+39%) | (12) Wot You Wearing 20/1, Back-to-back winner over C&D in November 2023. Made an encouraging start to present campaign when just touched off in a 25.5f Hereford handicap in October but hasn't backed that up. Needs a return to Chepstow to spark a revival. Went close on seasonal debut in October but has gone the wrong way since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Gwennie May Star |
(13) (25/1 +0%)25/1(+0%) | (13) Gwennie May Star 25/1, More than hinted at ability in bumpers and novice hurdles but well held on Hereford handicap debut 15 days ago. Still early days but would need to see market support to consider now stepping back up in trip. Well beaten on handicap debut but remains unexposed and Dan Skelton is persisting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Taritino |
(11) (25/1 +24%)25/1(+24%) | (11) Taritino 25/1, Three Flat wins for Joe Tickle in early summer. Only sixth back hurdling at Taunton (2m) 24 days ago but he's entitled to be sharper for that first outing in 3 months and this longer trip could play to his strengths too. Not discounted. Three Flat wins in 2024; ran okay over hurdles last month (2m); stamina a worry today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
VALENS BRUYEE just missed out in a conditionals' race on heavy ground at Ffos Las on his return to hurdling. He looks worthy of another chance with Callum Pritchard allowed to utilise his full 7lb claim on this occasion. Risk D'Argent finished a creditable third at Bangor on his seasonal bow and can feature again off his current mark. New Found Fame will likely give another good account, despite a 5lb rise for last month's success at Bangor.
There's a feeling one of the unexposed sorts will step forward, with the suggestion being DANGEROUS TOUCH after his promising fourth at Warwick last time. A market move for Harry Derham handicap newcomer Casual Observer would make him a potential big threat. Valens Bruyee and Alan de Banks complete the shortlist.
Handicap debutant DANGEROUS TOUCH (nap) displayed significant improvement when fourth over 2m in November and can progress again today.

Half-brother to 3 winners, including useful 2m hurdle winner An Tobar and dual bumper winner/useful hurdler Elle Est Belle. Had a breathing op before debut and fitted with a tongue tie, he weakened out of it over C&D in November. Half-brother to three useful jumpers but well down the field over C&D on debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
MAXIMUM OFFERS ran out of steam in the closing stages when third at Carlisle on his debut under Rules. The son of Getaway displayed enough to suggest he can win at this level and may prove tough to beat. Giantsgrave has joined Dan Skelton's yard after finishing second in a point-to-point in Ireland last year and is another to note, while you can also make a case for Limerick Lass.
GIANTSGRAVE fetched £92,000 following his runner-up effort in a point and, having been sent to Dan Skelton, he's sure to be very well prepared for this. He receives the vote in favour of newcomer Wannabe.
Carlisle third MAXIMUM OFFERS was right in the thick of things throughout last month's rules debut and gets the vote here.
