(6) Malinka 12/1, Fair form on second of 2 starts as a 2-y-o but finished well held all 3 starts, including in handicaps/upped in trip for Ralph Beckett so far this year. Market should guide as to expectations now hurdling for new yard.

14:17 Cartmel Conditions Hurdle (Class 4) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

TORRENT belied odds of 33/1 when making a winning debut over hurdles at Uttoxeter. He may well defy a penalty if proving as effective on soft going. Trafalgar Square has undergone a wind operation since finishing second at Market Rasen on his hurdling bow and should have a say in proceedings, while the Irish challenger Judicial Reward has switched trainers and Brian Hughes' presence in the saddle suggests better is expected from him.

TORRENT faces contrasting conditions to those he faced when making a successful hurdles debut at Uttoxeter 4 weeks ago but that was a promising start and, open to improvement, he shades the vote. Trafalgar Square following his second at Market Rasen rates the chief threat, with French recruit Aaron also worth a look on hurdles debut for his new yard.

The most obvious answer is TORRENT, who finished well to snatch victory on his recent hurdling debut. Aaron is feared most.

14:52 Cartmel Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 25f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

SECRET SECRET returned a convincing five-length winner on soft ground over 2m6f here last month. The manner of that success suggests James Moffatt's inmate can cope with a 6lb rise and go in again. Reagrove Lord caught the eye finishing strongly for third at Perth and can feature once again off his current mark, while Doyen For A Drink travels over from Ireland with a shout.

It's hard to get away from course-regular SECRET SECRET, who won with plenty up his sleeve at this venue a month ago. Traditude Tara will surely show more now handicapping, while Irish raider Doyen For A Drink requires a market check.

Preference is for Irish raider DOYEN FOR A DRINK, who returned from a layoff with a pleasing run last month.

15:27 Cartmel Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 25f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Blended Stealth has obvious claims of finally winning over hurdles based on last month's narrow defeat at Perth, but SKYJACK HIJACK has more scope for improvement and may edge this. The six-year-old was having only his fourth outing when finishing runner-up on soft ground here on his handicap debut last month and looks capable of scoring off his current mark. Joie De Vivre is at home on a soft surface and could go well too.

SKYJACK HIJACK continued his race-by-race progression when finding only a Jimmy Moffat-trainer improver too strong at this track 5 weeks ago so with this extra distance holding no fears, Jennie Candlish's 6-y-o can come out on top. Second choice is Blended Stealth, who is a long-standing maiden but got as close as he ever has at Perth last month. Handicap-debutante Baby Evie and Lady Harriett can fight out third.

Joie De Vivre looks capable of a big run over this longer trip but the less-exposed SKYJACK HIJACK has the greater potential.

16:02 Cartmel Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 22f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A change of scenery and 169-day layoff could be just what the doctor ordered for TIGER JET on his first appearance for the Jennie Candlish team. The eight-year-old is just 2lb higher than his last winning mark and could be worth chancing in an open contest. Elogio was beaten just over two lengths when fifth at Uttoxeter last time out and he's feared most, ahead of the distance-dropping Shantou Sunset.

Perhaps SKY LUNA can make a winning start to her handicapping career for the Jimmy Moffatt team. Shantou Sunset is another likely contender for the stable on the back of her good reappearance run over a longer trip here last month. Elogio may prove best of the remainder.

City Derby has to be feared in his bid for a five-timer but an interesting alternative might be SKY LUNA on handicap debut.

16:40 Cartmel Handicap Chase (Class 3) 26f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

ILIKEDWAYURTHINKIN has been revived by a switch to chasing, as evidenced with two ready victories over C&D in recent months. A 3lb rise in the ratings for the veteran's latest triumph looks more than workable judged on his previous exploits when racing in Ireland. Although Jerrash hasn't always convinced with his jumping in this discipline, he's a threat if putting it all together. The Kayf Tara gelding may give the selection most to think about, ahead of Charlie Uberalles.

TOMMIE BEAU won over fences and hurdles here in the space of 48 hours in May and could be well placed to strike again after a fine run in second over the smaller obstacles at Saturday's meeting. Old rival Charlie Uberalles is respected back chasing, while Ilikedwayurthinkin is a big player bidding for a C&D hat-trick.

The pick is ILIKEDWAYURTHINKIN (nap), who does not look harshly treated by a 3lb rise for the latter of his two C&D wins this season.

17:15 Cartmel Handicap Chase (Class 3) 21f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

SEAN OG has taken his form to a higher level over the larger obstacles with a C&D success on his penultimate start. The six-year-old followed that up with a second-placed effort here last month and remains unexposed on only his sixth chase start. The Flier Begley appears to be on a fair mark if stepping back in the right direction following his latest effort over hurdles. On My Bike is also noted.

SEAN OG continues in good heart and is fast becoming a Cartmel specialist, so is marginally preferred to Dr Sanderson, who again ran well here on Saturday and has backed up quickly before.

Sean Og would rate serious consideration should the ground dry but a chance is taken on COQOLINO returning to form off a good mark.

17:50 Cartmel Handicap Chase (Class 4) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

FORCING BULL may have not appreciated a relatively quick turnaround when finishing fifth over C&D just 13 days after scoring at Uttoxeter on his chasing debut. Donald McCain's gelding is expected to bounce back and prove too strong for the opposition. Wee Charlie has to be on the shortlist returning to fences for the first time since March, while Grand Soufle isn't to be discounted either.

CUZCO DU MATHAN has got back on track since the visor was applied, opening his chase account over C&D in July and matching that form when runner-up back here on Saturday. He holds solid claims turned out quickly. Fellow chase winner Forcing Bull has been given more of a break following his last run and he's feared, along with Supposedtobe, who remains open to improvement in this sphere.

Preference is for FORCING BULL who may be able to dominate this small field. Cuzco Du Mathan is second choice.
