14:15 Cartmel Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

BOWLING BUDDY finished 10 lengths clear of the third when hitting the crossbar on his first start under Rules at Uttoxeter and he would have learned a great deal from that experience. Olly Murphy's six-year-old may only need to reproduce that level of performance in order to go one better. Ravenscraig Castle is a fair performer on the Flat and finished second at Kelso when last seen in this sphere in May, so he has to be taken seriously. Torquay Road can pick up any pieces.

CAVERN CLUB was about as impressive as the circumstances allowed when making a successful hurdling debut over C&D last month and, with the prospect of significant improvement, he looks more than capable of defying a penalty. Bowling Buddy seems likely to build on his opening effort under Rules over this slightly longer trip and can provide the main threat.

Irish point winner BOWLING BUDDY chased home a very talented Flat performer on last month's hurdling debut and might be the answer.

14:50 Cartmel Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

ASHINGTON had Well Educated (second), Calevade (third) and Vocal Duke (sixth) behind when he was a three-length victor over C&D on his penultimate start before only managing to finish fifth on the level at Carlisle last time. Mark Walford's nine-year-old will appreciate the return to this sphere and looks the one to beat. Shengai Enki failed to complete the hat-trick on his latest outing and is an interesting contender back in the handicap ranks. Young Merlin is another to note.

YOUNG MERLIN racked up a hat-trick over hurdles last summer and fit from the Flat, he looks to have a workable mark to exploit back in this sphere. Ashington had a few of these behind when winning over C&D last month and he's a player, along with Allbetsoff.

Last year's winner YOUNG MERLIN has run some sound races on the Flat this summer and is taken to beat Allbetsoff and Ashington.

15:25 Cartmel Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) 25f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

TOMMIE BEAU arrives in search of a hat-trick having scored over C&D on his latest outing and is only 5lb higher for that success. Seamus Mullins' nine-year-old looks to have lots in his favour and may go in again. Secret Trix justified his place in the market with no real trouble after a wind operation at Uttoxeter last month and should remain competitive, while the in-form Saint Bibiana is another to take seriously.

Plenty of in-form sorts in opposition with SAINT BIBIANA given the narrow vote to come out on top. Having completed a quick-fire hat-trick over C&D in June, she again ran well when runner-up at Newton Abbot 5 weeks ago and a 3 lb rise shouldn't prevent another bold showing. Secret Trix and City Derby are others to consider, along with last year's winner Our Sam, who will appreciate the return to this longer trip.

He's much better known as a chaser but TOMMIE BEAU (nap) was an excellent C&D winner when back over hurdles in May and gets the vote.

16:00 Cartmel Handicap Chase (Class 4) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

CUZCO DU MATHAN showed a likeable attitude when scoring by a yawning margin over this track and trip last month and, upped 5lb, should be tough to stop provided he arrives in a similar vein of form. Restandbethankful appears to be the main danger to the selection on the back of a couple of excellent runner-up efforts over hurdles recently, while the formerly smart Ciel De Neige's mark continues to fall and he merits a second look in a bid to arrest the slide.

RESTANDBETHANKFUL has been shaping up well over hurdles here in recent months and could prove the answer if he's derived any benefit from a recent wind operation. Last month's C&D winner Cuzco du Mathan may give him most to do.

Preference is for dual C&D winner LERMOOS LEGEND, who has got his career back on track in recent months.

16:35 Cartmel Handicap Chase (Class 5) 21f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

The King Of May (first) got the better of DR SANDERSON (second) when the pair met over C&D last month, but the latter was unlucky not to finish closer to the winner having been badly hampered when looking like he was going to mount a serious challenge in the home straight. To that end, Ben Haslam's charge, who is 4lb better off at the weights this time around, looks the one to side with. Kicksaftersix is capable of playing a hand in a race of this nature.

The in-form DR SANDERSON might well have won but for being badly hampered when second to The King of May over C&D last month and can make amends off the same mark. Kicksaftersix is closely matched with the selection on their running here 5 weeks ago and is next best.

Class-dropper JELSKI has not been at his best this season but won't mind what the weather does and may exploit a tempting mark.

17:05 Cartmel Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

LIGHTENING COMPANY pulled clear with the eventual runner-up when landing a breakthrough victory over hurdles over C&D last month, and the suspicion is that a 5lb rise may not be enough to anchor him here. Heart Above finished third over 2m at Hexham on his penultimate start and must be of interest off a 1lb lower mark, with Iolani catching the eye off just 2lb higher than his last winning mark.

A number of these arrive with a question mark against them so this looks a good opportunity for LIGHTENING COMPANY to make light of a 5 lb rise and follow up his C&D success last month. Fellow C&D scorer Iolani arrives in good nick and is feared most with last year's victor Mr Rumbalicious and the handily-weighted Shantou Lucky also in the picture if back on song.

A low-grade handicap hurdle can go to IOLANI, who won a C&D selling handicap in May and was a fair fourth last time.

17:35 Cartmel Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

It is hard to look past THE NAVIGATOR, who scored with the minimum of fuss over C&D when last seen over hurdles and may prove a tough nut to crack, despite a 5lb rise. For Three, who finished third behind the selection here last time out, is entitled to be in the mix once again, while the consistent Huit Reflets has to enter the reckoning following his recent second at Uttoxeter.

THE NAVIGATOR capitalised on a much-reduced mark with plenty in hand over C&D on his latest hurdling outing and he's subsequently showed his wellbeing on the Flat, so he's preferred to Huit Reflets, who has been in good order for a while. For Three, who was third to the selection last time, is another one to consider.

After winning over C&D on his latest hurdles start, THE NAVIGATOR is taken to go in again and beat the in-form Huit Reflets.
