1st (3) (2/1 -33%) Johnnywho |
2/1(-33%) | (3) Johnnywho 2/1, Won a 2½m course novice hurdle on his reappearance and went on to show useful form in defeat later in the season, shaping well in strong 3m Aintree handicap on final start. A fine looker who should do well over fences. Future probably lies over further but this point winner is an exciting prospect for fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (9/4 -38%) Bugise Seagull |
9/4(-38%) | (1) Bugise Seagull 9/4, Irish point recruit who won first 2 starts over hurdles last winter. Third in Aintree Grade 1 novice on final start and rates a good chase prospect. Third in Grade 1 novice hurdle at Aintree in April and could have a big say on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (3/1 +25%) Cherie D'am |
3/1(+25%) | (4) Cherie D'am 3/1, Progressed into quite a useful novice hurdler last season and a point win at the start of her career suggests she can do at least as well over fences this time round. Point, bumper and two-time hurdle winner; every chance fences will suit; possible player. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
None of these can be ruled out with any great confidence, so only a tentative nod goes to BUGISE SEAGULL. He looked one to keep on the right side of when scoring comfortably on his first two starts last season, before going on to finish third in Listed and Grade 1 events at Huntingdon and Aintree. Having performed well in a point-to-point before joining this yard, he looks the one to side with tackling fences for the first time. Johnnywho was last seen finishing a respectable fourth in a valuable handicap over the extended 3m at Aintree in April and this course winner looks the biggest threat. That said, Cherie D'am was third in the Grade 1 Sefton Novices' Hurdle at that same Grand National meeting and she must be respected on her chasing bow.
All of these look likely to do well over fences and JOHNNYWHO, who opened his account over hurdles first time up here last season, is fancied to do the same on his chase debut.
Top of the list is point runner-up BUGISE SEAGULL, who enjoyed a promising novice hurdle campaign at about this trip.

1st (5) (9/2 -64%) Barlovento |
9/2(-64%) | (5) Barlovento 9/2, Confirmed debut promise when winning 6-runner bumper (7/4) at Southwell (15.8f, heavy) in March, value for extra. From a good jumping family and looks sure to make his mark over hurdles. Bumper winner; pedigree suggests he'll be suited by the step up in trip on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (200/1 +0%) Grand Geste |
200/1(+0%) | (7) Grand Geste 200/1, Down the field in 2 bumpers and no promise so far over hurdles. Big prices for all four starts and has shown little. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (10/1 +38%) Joecooker |
10/1(+38%) | (8) Joecooker 10/1, Shaped with some encouragement in a Punchestown maiden hurdle prior to winning a Wexford bumper. Some aptitude when sixth in novice at Hexham on debut for this yard recently and steps up in trip now. Promising in Ireland; disappointing on recent stable debut at Hexham but not written off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (3/1 +40%) King Roly |
3/1(+40%) | (3) King Roly 3/1, Improved with each start in bumpers, off the mark at Perth (16.2f) in August. Followed up on hurdles bow at Worcester 6 weeks ago and likely to build on that but penalty makes things difficult. Bumper winner who followed up on hurdle debut; could play another leading role. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (15/8 +38%) Geezer Rockstar |
15/8(+38%) | (1) Geezer Rockstar 15/8, Won 13-runner Taunton bumper on debut in April and much improved at third time of asking over hurdles when winning 13-runner maiden at Ascot in March. Disappointed in a handicap next time but strong claims on form back from six months off. Bumper and maiden hurdle winner who holds leading claims if back on song. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (13) (150/1 -50%) The Big Breac |
150/1(-50%) | (13) The Big Breac 150/1, Placed in a point but looks more of a long-term prospect based on his low-key hurdling debut at Sedgefield. Didn't threaten in Irish points and tailed off at 66-1 on recent rules debut at Sedgefield. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (12) (250/1 -25%) Tees Comp's Clive |
250/1(-25%) | (12) Tees Comp's Clive 250/1, Yet to show much and looks up against it again. From a good family but he's been tailed off the last twice (hurdle debut last time). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (12/1 -9%) Kilmore Rock |
12/1(-9%) | (2) Kilmore Rock 12/1, Placed on 2 of 4 starts in points and backed at prices, he made a winning hurdles debut at Hexham in June. That bare form is ordinary and he unseated next time. Won on rules debut at Hexham in June; mishap at Kelso recently; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (16/1 -60%) Monsieur Le Fuzz |
16/1(-60%) | (9) Monsieur Le Fuzz 16/1, €60,000 3-y-o, Saint Des Saints gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler Park Annonciade. Dam (c123/h115) hurdle/chase winner who stayed 27f. Runner-up on second of 2 starts in Irish points (May 25). Displayed ability in Irish points; one of three for yard; Brian Hughes rides; check market. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (14) (100/1 -300%) Tory Hill |
100/1(-300%) | (14) Tory Hill 100/1, Milan gelding. Dam (b70) unplaced in bumpers. Not much to go on pedigree wise and stable usually take a patient approach. Went close in four Irish maiden points last season; not ruled out on his rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (4) (33/1 -106%) Balking |
33/1(-106%) | (4) Balking 33/1, Related to a winner over jumps in France and showed ability when fourth of 12 in a bumper at Kelso 8 months ago. Will probably need this first experience of hurdling, though. Kept on for fair fourth at Kelso in sole bumper; has potential now up in trip over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (10) (125/1 -25%) Red Ned |
125/1(-25%) | (10) Red Ned 125/1, Runner-up on the first of 2 starts in bumpers last season but offered little sent hurdling after 8 months off at Hexham recently. Up in trip. Short-headed in Southwell bumper last November but well beaten on both runs since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (6) (150/1 -127%) Blue Plan |
150/1(-127%) | (6) Blue Plan 150/1, Brother to bumper winner Lady Bluebird. No show in novice at Kelso on hurdling debut 169 days ago, so hard to make a case for. Tailed off at 28-1 on his debut at Kelso in May and is hard to fancy on this second start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (11/2 +15%) Sea God |
11/2(+15%) | (11) Sea God 11/2, Successful on his sole outing in points and completed a simple task switched to a bumper at Carlisle in December. Shaped like a stayer switched to hurdling on first run since leaving John McConnell when fourth of 13 at Kelso (20.9f, good) in May and is open to improvement. Point/bumper winner; failed to threaten on h'dle/yard debut at Kelso but retains potential. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Geezer Rockstar shaped with promise last season and, after being readily outclassed in a warm Sandown handicap over 2m when last seen, he should appreciate this drop in class. That said, KING ROLY edges preference. He arrives on a hat-trick after scoring gamely over 2m7f at Worcester last month and, dropping in trip with match-fitness on his side, he gets the vote. Barlovento is a fascinating contender on his hurdles debut having scored cosily in a Southwell bumper in the spring.
BARLOVENTO confirmed his debut promise when off the mark in a bumper at Southwell 7 months ago and is very much bred to take to this discipline, so he's marginally preferred to Geezer Rock, who sets a good standard. Sea God is open to improvement and also worthy of consideration.
It was a useful maiden hurdle that GEEZER ROCKSTAR won at Ascot in March and that form makes him the one to beat today.

1st (1) (9/4 -13%) Illico De Cotte |
9/4(-13%) | (1) Illico De Cotte 9/4, Irish point winner who opened his account in a Hereford maiden hurdle (25.5f) in February. Couldn't quite replicate that level in finishing third final 2 starts last season but he appeals as the type who could well do better now his attentions switch to chasing following a wind op. Point and maiden hurdle winner who is in top hands and could improve for going chasing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (4/1 +20%) Elleon |
4/1(+20%) | (4) Elleon 4/1, Still not the most of fluent of jumpers but has enjoyed a fine start to the season, winning brace of Hexham handicaps (at 3m) and in-the-frame all 4 starts since. Likely to give his running again for all his mark is probably about right. Frequently finishes placed but also knows how to win and he's effective here; thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (3/1 +75%) Home Sweet Highway |
3/1(+75%) | (5) Home Sweet Highway 3/1, Confirmed previous promise over hurdles when off the mark at Bangor (23f) in June. However, made mistakes and not for the first time didn't convince when well-beaten third of 5 in handicap chase at Southwell (24.3f) 3 weeks ago. Bit to prove now. Well treated on hurdle form, but jumping errors and heavy defeats on both chase starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (3) (3/1 -9%) Ballydisco |
3/1(-9%) | (3) Ballydisco 3/1, Twice successful from higher marks over hurdles and signed off time with former yard with his best effort yet in this sphere when runner-up at Ffos Las (28f) in May, giving best only late on. Intriguing contender starting out for new stable. Went close over 3m4f at Ffos Las when last seen; he's one to consider on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (10/1 -100%) Phillapa Sue |
10/1(-100%) | (2) Phillapa Sue 10/1, Hurdles winner who made a successful chase debut in 4-runner mares' handicap at Market Rasen (23.9f, heavy) in March. Made mistakes and never figured over hurdles at Ayr a month later but not dismissed lightly on return if keeping errors to a minimum. Inconsistent over hurdles last season but career-best RPR when winning on sole chase start. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Impressive point-to-point winner ILLICO DE COTTE showed a fair level of form over hurdles last season and he may prove to be even better over fences. Now making his first start since wind surgery, Dan Skelton's charge gets the nod to return to winning ways. With plenty of chasing experience already under his belt, Ballydisco looks the pick of the remainder off 4lb higher than when finishing an excellent second over 3m4f at Ffos Las in May. Elleon can also go well.
BALLYDISCO ended his time with his former stable with his best effort to date over fences when runner-up at Ffos Las back in May and, with his hurdles form offering hope he can be competitive from his revised mark, he could well be the way to go on debut for Lucinda Russell. Chase debutant Illico de Cotte needs considering, with in-form 9-y-o Elleon another fancied to be thereabouts.
The lightly raced point winner ILLICO DE COTTE is open to improvement on his chase debut and earns the vote ahead of Elleon.

1st (4) (5/2 +64%) To Chase A Dream |
5/2(+64%) | (4) To Chase A Dream 5/2, Point bumper winner who, having finished runner-up on his first 4 starts in this sphere, deservedly opened his hurdles account when taking a Doncaster maiden (19.5f, heavy) in March. Brian Hughes up on return from what looks a workable opening handicap mark. Won Doncaster maiden in March when last seen and this 5yo could continue to progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (22/1 -83%) Parvos |
22/1(-83%) | (8) Parvos 22/1, Fair maiden hurdler in Ireland who produced an improved performance to get off the mark on third start for this yard at Sedgefield in February. Couple of creditable efforts in defeat at the start of the summer but she returns from a break in a warm-looking race. Runner-up at Hexham in June when last seen and she may still have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (11) (15/2 +46%) Forged Well |
15/2(+46%) | (11) Forged Well 15/2, Point recruit who created a good impression when making successful hurdle debut in a 19f course novice last December. Shaped well in a couple of Kelso handicaps in the spring. Remains unexposed but this drop in trip possibly not ideal on reappearance. Enjoyed a good first campaign last term (including win here); open to further improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (13) (4/1 +27%) Don Virginia |
4/1(+27%) | (13) Don Virginia 4/1, Placed all 3 starts, on the latest going down by neck in novice at Warwick (2m, good) 21 days ago. An unexposed profile provides the hope for improvement in handicaps. Lightly raced 4yo who went very close at Warwick; could play leading role on h'cap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (15/2 +17%) Don Hollow |
15/2(+17%) | (6) Don Hollow 15/2, Wetherby bumper winner who landed a 19f Catterick maiden hurdle just after Christmas. Failed to build on that in a couple of handicaps in the spring but no surprise were he to make a much bigger impact on his return from wind surgery. Absent since April 2023 but with a top yard and no surprise if he's a serious force. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (12/1 +0%) Well Educated |
12/1(+0%) | (3) Well Educated 12/1, Won handicaps at Hexham and Kelso in the spring. Creditable third of 7 back at Hexham (2m, good) 20 days ago. Won this race in 2022. Won this in 2022; arrives on back of solid third at Hexham; could be in the shake-up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (50/1 -52%) Romeo Brown |
50/1(-52%) | (5) Romeo Brown 50/1, Hasn't shown much spark since gaining latest success at Aintree in December 2022, pulling up on his final 2 outings last season. Needs to bounce back in a major way. Continues to drop down the weights but pulled up on last two starts in February/March. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (5/1 +9%) Wise Guy |
5/1(+9%) | (10) Wise Guy 5/1, Improver in handicaps last season. including a C&D win on soft. Raced too close to a strong pace and shaped well when third at Chepstow on final start in April and likely to go on to better things in 2024/25. Progressive last season, including C&D win; this unexposed 5yo is firmly in calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (20/1 -43%) Thereisnodoubt |
20/1(-43%) | (1) Thereisnodoubt 20/1, Veteran but he was better than ever when making a successful reappearance at Perth (2m, heavy) last autumn. Has dropped back to the mark he defied at Perth and no shock were he to go well back from 9 months off. 11yo who has been absent since December but won on reappearance last term (off this mark). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (17/2 -6%) Eire Street |
17/2(-6%) | (9) Eire Street 17/2, Much improved for new yard at the beginning of 2024, easily winning heavy-ground handicaps over C&D and Ayr (20.5f) in February. Good second of 16 at Kelso (21f, good to soft) on final start. Could have even more to offer this season. Made an excellent start to his handicap career earlier this year; on the shortlist. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (7) (33/1 +0%) Mojo Ego |
33/1(+0%) | (7) Mojo Ego 33/1, Won a pair of juvenile hurdles for Harry Derham last season. Creditable fifth in Cartmel handicap on yard debut in August but beaten a long way when filling the same position at Perth last month. Bounce back needed. Has run in three handicaps and was unable to threaten in any of them. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
A mark of 107 does not look beyond Don Virginia, who was just touched off in a novice at Warwick three weeks ago. That said, previous C&D winner EIRE STREET was last seen finishing second in a competitive class 2 event at Kelso in April and he makes greater appeal. The son of Flemensfirth, two from three in handicap company, is 4lb higher on his seasonal reappearance and is expected to go very close. Others to note include Parvos and Wise Guy.
A competitive handicap. WISE GUY progressed well in handicaps last term, including a C&D win, and appeals as one who can kick on again this season. Dan Skelton's Don Hollow could pose a threat if a wind operation in the off-season has had a positive effect. To Chase A Dream, Eire Street and Don Virginia are others who arrive with positive profiles.
5yo WISE GUY (nap) enjoyed a productive novice campaign last season, including a comfortable C&D win, and he can make a winning return.

1st (1) (11/4 +0%) Plaisir Des Flos |
11/4(+0%) | (1) Plaisir Des Flos 11/4, Made it 4-4 in handicaps when landing the odds at Perth (20.2f, soft) on latest start in April. Only a 5-y-o, so there's good reason to believe that he will have more to offer this season. Made it 4-4 in handicaps when winning at Perth in April and had something to spare. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (15/8 +46%) Mr Hope Street |
15/8(+46%) | (7) Mr Hope Street 15/8, Looked a totally different proposition upped to around 2½m on final 2 starts of last season, bagging handicaps at Market Rasen and Uttoxeter. 5 lb for latter success looks fair enough and this 6-y-o remains open to improvement. Won two in a row in the spring and this unexposed 6yo could still be well treated. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (28/1 -133%) Half Track |
28/1(-133%) | (6) Half Track 28/1, Lightly-raced and poor completion rate (primarily over fences) since landing an Ayr novice hurdle back in December 2021. Best to look elsewhere. Still lightly raced but career hasn't gone to plan since novice h'dle win in December 2021. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (4/1 +71%) Enemy At The Gate |
4/1(+71%) | (10) Enemy At The Gate 4/1, Remains a maiden following 12 starts in this sphere but he didn't do much wrong in half-a-dozen starts last season. Has undergone a wind op ahead of this seasonal reappearance and he will be a danger to all if fully tuned-up. Remains a maiden after 14 starts but consistent and has good course form; each-way claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (14/1 -27%) My Friend Yeats |
14/1(-27%) | (4) My Friend Yeats 14/1, Maiden point winner in May and bettered his Rules debut display when going close at Cartmel in July. However, he failed to reproduce that next time and needs to raise his game now pitched into a handicap. Went close at Cartmel in July; lesser run since but not discounted on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (7/1 +30%) Mount Gallion |
7/1(+30%) | (2) Mount Gallion 7/1, Huntingdon maiden winner in March before running no sort of a race on handicap bow here later that month. However, step back in right direction when second upped to 2½m on return at Sedgefield and he's an each-way contender. Reappeared with 12l second at Sedgefield last month and could build on that performance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (22/1 +12%) Vocal Duke |
22/1(+12%) | (8) Vocal Duke 22/1, Losing run mounting up and while he was placed on his penultimate start off this mark at Cartmel in August, his subsequent display at Perth was poor. Inconsistent and tailed off last time, but he's shown spark this season and goes well here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (12) (11/1 +56%) Lady Hamilton |
11/1(+56%) | (12) Lady Hamilton 11/1, Still a maiden and while she was placed 3 times on the bounce during the summer, this looks tough from out of the weights. Fair third on last three starts in June but she's now 0-20 and is 6lb out of the handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (66/1 -65%) Lovely Moon |
66/1(-65%) | (11) Lovely Moon 66/1, Fair ex-Irish hurdler/chaser who has not been seen out subsequent to a poor effort back hurdling here (17.2f, heavy) 2 years ago. Readily passed over. 9yo who is on a reduced mark but may be best watched on first outing since October 2022. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Four from four and raised a total of 29lb since switching to handicaps in March, Plaisir Des Flos will be a real threat if returning at the top of his game. Even so, the Dan Skelton-trained MR HOPE STREET might prove too strong. The Jet Away gelding benefitted from a step up in trip when winning over an extended 2m4f at Market Rasen in April before following up at Uttoxeter the following month, being eased down towards the finish. He's 5lb higher but might still be improving. The race-fit Broughshane is also taken seriously.
PLAISIR DES FLOS improved in leaps and bounds when switched to handicaps last season and, with the likelihood of even better to come from this unexposed 5-y-o, he is taken to pick up where he left off by making a winning seasonal reappearance here. Broughshane and the hat-trick seeking Mr Hope Street rate the main dangers in that order of preference.
The Dan Skelton-trained MR HOPE STREET won his last two starts in the spring and this unexposed 6yo can complete a hat-trick.

22/1(+12%) | (7) Kilbrainy 22/1, Got off the mark in impressive style at Kelso (21f) last autumn but has disappointed in his 4 outings since. Can only be watched for the time being. Won at Kelso last October but he's struggled on his four starts since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (9/4 -20%) Dominic's Fault |
9/4(-20%) | (3) Dominic's Fault 9/4, Well-bred, rangy sort who overcame a lengthy absence to land a 6-runner novice at Leicester (2m, heavy) in January. Travelled well long way before fading into third at Lingfield a month later. Given time since and open to progress now switching to a handicap. Won Leicester novice in January; goes handicapping with yard in good form; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (12/1 +14%) Drop Flight |
12/1(+14%) | (5) Drop Flight 12/1, Landed 5-runner hunter at Exeter in March prior to falling early in the Foxhunters' Chase at Aintree the following month. However, his efforts over hurdles for present stable have been low key. Hunter chase winner in March but well beaten back over hurdles the last twice for new yard. |

4th (1) (3/1 +40%) Got Your Back |
3/1(+40%) | (1) Got Your Back 3/1, Off the mark on second of 4 starts in maiden/novice hurdles at Musselburgh (19.8f) last December. Disappointed next 2 starts but back on track following wind surgery when third of 9 on handicap debut at Market Rasen (20.6f) in May. Can build on that back from 5 months off. Fair third at Market Rasen in May and this lightly raced 6yo could be involved. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (22/1 -120%) Joie More |
22/1(-120%) | (6) Joie More 22/1, Made the frame in points and ran his best race to date under Rules (modest form) when second of 8 in a Kelso maiden (20.9f, soft) in March. Switch to handicaps in his favour on return and interesting if the market spoke in his favour. Has shown promise in a point and over hurdles, and could have potential off opening mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (16/1 0%) Paddy O'mahler |
16/1(0%) | (9) Paddy O'mahler 16/1, Still a maiden but showed some improvement when third of 9 in handicap hurdle at Newcastle (20.3f) in March. Never travelling when pulled up at Hexham (20f) when last seen in May and stable's runners have largely benefited from their first run of the campaign so far. On a competitive mark but made it 0-11 when pulled up at Hexham in May when last seen. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (9/2 +59%) Maillot Blanc |
9/2(+59%) | (8) Maillot Blanc 9/2, Looked rusty after 11 months off on his first run since leaving Sophie Leech when fifth of 8 in handicap hurdle here (17f) back in March. Absent again since but return to this longer trip in his favour judged on the pick of his form. Soundly beaten here in March when back from an absence; returns from more time off today. |

|F| (4) (18/1 -13%) Famous Liss |
18/1(-13%) | (4) Famous Liss 18/1, Finished alone in an Irish point and progressive form in 2m novice hurdles earlier this season, edged out close home at Hexham (16.2f) in June. Shaped as if he'd strip fitter for first start for 4 months when last of 6 in handicap hurdle at Kelso (20.9f) 18 days ago. Remains unexposed. Tailed off on recent handicap debut but may have needed the run; showed promise previously. |

|U| (2) (9/2 -64%) One Eye On Vegas |
9/2(-64%) | (2) One Eye On Vegas 9/2, Improved since fitting with cheekpieces, winning handicaps at Leicester and Hereford in January/February. Solid in-the-frame efforts next 2 starts, third of 16 in handicap at Ayr (24.3f) 6 months ago. Respected down in trip. Big improver in these cheekpieces earlier in the year; could play leading role on return. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
ONE EYE ON VEGAS showed up well for a long way in a 0-125 over an extended 3m at Ayr when last seen in April and, eased in both trip and grade, the lightly-raced gelding could resume his progress on this seasonal return. Got Your Back offered encouragement on his handicap bow at Market Rasen having undergone wind surgery prior and any further improvement would bring him into the reckoning. Famous Liss is another worth considering for the in-form Stuart Coltherd team.
DOMINIC'S FAULT evidently hasn't been the easiest to train but there was plenty of encouragement to take from his hurdles exploits upon returning from a lengthy break earlier this year and, remaining with potential, he's taken to make an immediate impact now handicapping. One Eye On Vegas and Got Your Back are interesting alternatives.
Cheekpieces prompted improvement from ONE EYE ON VEGAS earlier this year and he is selected to make a winning return to action.

1st (4) (17/2 +0%) The Flier Begley |
17/2(+0%) | (4) The Flier Begley 17/2, Fairly useful chase winner for Stuart Crawford in Ireland and off the mark at fourth attempt for present yard at Warwick (2½m, good). Nudged up just 2 lb and it's not hard to envisage this 9-y-o playing another leading role. Nudged up only 2lb for recent Warwick win and should be fine on this right-handed track. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) (10/1 -67%) Indian Louis |
10/1(-67%) | (11) Indian Louis 10/1, Dual point winner who made a winning chase debut at Musselburgh on New Year's Day. Back on track when doubling his tally over fences at Perth (21f, soft) last month and this 7 lb higher mark looks manageable. Made all at Perth last month and now 2-5 over fences; 7lb higher in much better race here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (11/2 +27%) Peejaybee |
11/2(+27%) | (3) Peejaybee 11/2, Successful 3 times over hurdles and notched second win in this sphere when accounting for 6 rivals at Perth (2½m, soft) last month. 4 lb rise not the end of the world and should make his presence felt. No longer the force of old but is a dual chase winner this year; ought to be competitive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (12/1 +70%) Whoshotthesheriff |
12/1(+70%) | (8) Whoshotthesheriff 12/1, Won a couple of times in 2021/22 but he didn't show much in 5 starts last season and probably best watched starting out for new yard here. Became very disappointing last season but starts off for new stable on very dangerous mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (33/1 -32%) High Moon |
33/1(-32%) | (6) High Moon 33/1, More miss than hit since bagging a Newcastle handicap chase in April 2023 and, though now 3 lb below that winning mark, he is probably worth taking on. Yard also saddles Rock of Star. Looked out of sorts when pulled up twice in the spring; break needs to have done him good. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (20/1 +0%) Ganapathi |
20/1(+0%) | (2) Ganapathi 20/1, Useful hurdle/chase winner for Willie Mullins but losing run stretches back to June 2022 and he hasn't set the world alight in 3 starts for present yard. Others preferred. Regressive 8yo; drops in grade today but needs to turn a corner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (4/1 -60%) Fortunate Man |
4/1(-60%) | (1) Fortunate Man 4/1, €210,000 buy after winning an Irish point in April and successful on 2 of his 3 completed starts over hurdles last season. Appeals as the type to do better still now switched to fences. Irish point winner; 2-4 over hurdles; makes handicap/chase debut here; commands respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (12/1 0%) O'connell |
12/1(0%) | (7) O'connell 12/1, Winning Irish pointer who got off the mark in handicap chase at Market Rasen last December. Has made the frame all 4 subsequent starts but he doesn't tend to find a great deal off the bridle. Largely in good form last season but has fitness to prove today and 3m may suit better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (40/1 -60%) Ladronne |
40/1(-60%) | (10) Ladronne 40/1, Fair handicap chaser who regained the winning thread off 2 lb higher at Doncaster (3m, soft) in March. However, he has failed to fire on each of his last 3 starts (struggling when brought down 2 out at Hexham recently) and he's not the most solid of propositions. Five-time chase winner; on a good mark but arrives here with a point to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (12) (10/3 +72%) Rock Of Star |
10/3(+72%) | (12) Rock Of Star 10/3, Back-to-back 3m winner at Chepstow during spring 2023 and he was a solid third of 9 over 19.4f at that Welsh venue when last seen in January. Resumes for new yard on a 4 lb lower mark he'll be a danger to all if ready to roll. Placed off 4lb higher on latest start in January; makes stable debut; best on soft/heavy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (13) (100/1 -203%) Low Mileage |
100/1(-203%) | (13) Low Mileage 100/1, Fairly modest maiden over hurdles/fences in Ireland and there no positives to glean from his debut effort for this yard at Ayr in March. 0-14 when based in Ireland and well beaten on stable debut in March. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (15) (18/1 +28%) Treaty Boy |
18/1(+28%) | (15) Treaty Boy 18/1, Placed both starts between the flags and left novice hurdle form behind when making a winning handicap/chase debut at Catterick in February on final run for Rebecca Menzies. Good second on yard debut there later that month but wasn't in the same form when returning to action at Sedgefield recently. Made a good start to chasing career over 1m7f in February and is unexposed over this trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (5) (16/1 -33%) Glencassley |
16/1(-33%) | (5) Glencassley 16/1, Fairly useful in bumpers and landed back-to-back novice hurdles in 2021. Opened chase account when returning from a year off at Hereford (21f, soft) in March but failed to fire tried in cheekpieces (discarded here) at Southwell next time. Off since modest run in May but won on chase debut in March and resumes on a workable mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (14) (50/1 -150%) Uptown Harry |
50/1(-150%) | (14) Uptown Harry 50/1, Won the final of this series over C&D in March 2023. Back to form when notching another soft-ground success here in March of this year but below par next time and he's entitled to need the run following 6 months off. Won off a much reduced mark here in March but does not have a good record when fresh. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (11/1 -10%) Final Edgar |
11/1(-10%) | (9) Final Edgar 11/1, Largely creditable efforts over hurdles since landing a 17f Sedgefield maiden in February. Mark for this chase debut is a fair one and he could have a part to play, provided his jumping passes the test. Consistent in handicap hurdles since maiden win in February; shortlisted on chasing debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
FORTUNATE MAN and The Flier Begley come into this on the back of winning efforts. The latter kept on well to score over this trip at Warwick three weeks ago and is noteworthy off just 2lb higher. Nevertheless, the selection's novice hurdle success in March was really encouraging and the son of Solider Of Fortune has greater potential to flourish now he switches to chasing. Peejaybee can also get competitive.
The most interesting of these is FORTUNATE MAN, who showed plenty over hurdles last season and this former point winner is likely to be seen in an even better light now switched to the larger obstacles. Rock of Star will be a threat if raring to go on debut for a new yard following 9 months off and he is second choice ahead of last-time-out winners The Flier Begley, Peejaybee and Indian Louis.
Topweight FORTUNATE MAN was a promising novice hurdler last season and connections are evidently keen to launch his chasing career.
Ths is the racecard key.
