1st (2) (9/4 +25%) Englemere |
9/4(+25%) | (2) Englemere 9/4, Confirmed debut promise when winning 7-runner maiden at Catterick (5f, good) 20 days ago, well on top finish. Should improve again. Solid second, behind a subsequent Listed scorer, at Bath then won well at Catterick. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (9/1 +44%) Where's Clare |
9/1(+44%) | (6) Where's Clare 9/1, Foaled February 7. 45,000 gns yearling, Mehmas filly. Dam, French 2-y-o 6f winner, half-sister to useful 1¼m/11f winner Emperor Maximus. 45,000gns yearling; by Mehmas out of a 6f 2yo winner; check the betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (10/11 -36%) River Seine |
10/11(-36%) | (4) River Seine 10/11, Well-related filly who made a promising start when second of 10 in novice event at Newmarket (5f, good, 11/2) on debut 15 days ago. First and third won since and she could take the beating here. Promising second at Newmarket on 1,000 Guineas day; leading player at the weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (50/1 -150%) Toota |
50/1(-150%) | (5) Toota 50/1, Foaled April 23. €17,000 yearling, Sands of Mali filly. Dam 6f winner. 17,000euros yearling; by Sands Of Mali out of a 6f winner; market helpful. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (10/1 -100%) Lady Lightning |
10/1(-100%) | (3) Lady Lightning 10/1, Well prepared to make a winning start at Wolverhampton in April. Similar form when third of 9 in Lily Agnes at Chester (5.1f, good) 12 days ago, well drawn and no excuses. Both starts on sharp tracks with left-hand bend; ran well in the Lily Agnes latest. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
RIVER SEINE found only a Godolphin favourite too good when attempting to make all at Newmarket on her debut. The third has subsequently boosted the form by winning so Karl Burke's filly looks to have a leading chance on that evidence. The previous winners are both conceding weight to the selection with Englemere, who won a 5f Catterick maiden in good style, preferred to Wolverhampton scorer Lady Lightning.
RIVER SEINE split a couple of next-time-out winners when an excellent second starting out at Newmarket a fortnight ago and the weight she receives from the previous winners (of which Englemere is feared most) may prove to be decisive.
Provided her Newmarket promise is confirmed, RIVER SEINE has a good chance on these terms. Englemere is feared most.

1st (4) (9/4 -13%) Jordan Electrics |
9/4(-13%) | (4) Jordan Electrics 9/4, C&D winner last September who got his head back in front over 6f at Ayr (good) 6 days ago. Ought to be very competitive under a 4 lb penalty. Justified favouritism at Ayr last week; major player under 4lb penalty; 1-1 over C&D. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (12/1 -50%) Mountain Warrior |
12/1(-50%) | (1) Mountain Warrior 12/1, Latest win at Southwell in January. Also placed there in March and shaped much better than the result when twelfth of 15 in handicap at Thirsk (6f, soft) since going off too hard. Interesting back at 5f. Both wins over 6f on AW; latest effort suggests this drop to 5f is worth exploring. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (17/2 -183%) Reigning Profit |
17/2(-183%) | (2) Reigning Profit 17/2, Good runner-up efforts over 5f at Thirsk (soft) and Wolverhampton (AW) on last 2 starts. Likely to be in the shake-up again. Threatening to regain the winning thread; beaten only a neck last time; solid chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (6/1 +25%) Spring Is Sprung |
6/1(+25%) | (5) Spring Is Sprung 6/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2022. Respectable seventh of 12 in handicap at Ripon (5f, good to firm, 16/1) on reappearance 10 days ago. Should be sharper for the outing. 0-5 for new yard but is interesting off a handy mark with reappearance under his belt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (12/1 -33%) So Grateful |
12/1(-33%) | (9) So Grateful 12/1, 17/2, bit below form third of 7 in handicap at Doncaster (6f, good to soft) on reappearance 18 days ago. Might come on for the outing and he's dropped back to the mark he defied at Pontefract last summer. Only 1-24 on turf but he's back on last winning mark; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (28/1 -75%) Pockley |
28/1(-75%) | (3) Pockley 28/1, 14/1, last of 8 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6f) 58 days ago, missing break. First turf start since autumn 2022. All wins on Newcastle AW; not seen on turf since September 2022. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (16/1 -14%) Nelson Gay |
16/1(-14%) | (6) Nelson Gay 16/1, 15/2, seventh of 11 in handicap at Newcastle (5f) in February, unable to sustain effort. Off 106 days. On a feasible mark but he's done the majority of his winning on AW. Has a much better strike-rate on AW than on turf; absent since February. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (11/1 +67%) Mereside Angel |
11/1(+67%) | (8) Mereside Angel 11/1, 33/1, likely needed the outing when tenth of 12 in handicap at Ripon (5f, good to firm) on reappearance 10 days ago. Back on last winning mark. Back on last winning mark; fighting chance granted a revival. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (4/1 +20%) Minnesota Lad |
4/1(+20%) | (7) Minnesota Lad 4/1, Twelve runs since last win in 2022. 7/1, creditable third of 12 in handicap at Thirsk (6f, heavy) on reappearance 30 days ago. Another who can't be discounted in an open affair. 0-11 in handicaps but has some encouraging form, most recently third at Thirsk. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Jordan Electrics scored over track and trip last autumn but he is penalised for last week's victory over 6f at Ayr. REIGNING PROFIT hit top form at this time last year and with recent placed efforts suggesting a return to winning ways is imminent, Ruth Carr's sprinter may edge this racing off the same mark as when going close at Wolverhampton a week ago. Minnesota Lad drops back down in trip with a shout, while Nelson Gay has proved best on the all-weather so far.
A chance is taken on MOUNTAIN WARRIOR who simply did too much too soon over 6f at Thirsk last time and this drop to a stiff 5f could be ideal. Reigning Profit and last week's Ayr winner Jordan Electrics are solid alternatives, while Spring Is Sprung should strip fitter with his recent reappearance behind him and Danny Tudhope isn't a regular booking for the yard.
Judged on his last two efforts, REIGNING PROFIT holds a leading chance off the same mark. Jordan Electrics is second choice.

(8) (12/1 -33%)12/1(-33%) | (8) Gentle Ellen 12/1, C&D winner. Twelfth of 13 in handicap (7/1) at Beverley (7.4f, good) 14 days ago. Back down in trip. Form dipped on reappearance but may rebound; has won over C&D. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
American Star |
(4) (33/1 -32%)33/1(-32%) | (4) American Star 33/1, Twelve runs since last win in 2021. 28/1, tenth of 15 in handicap at Thirsk (6f, soft) 16 days ago, merely passing beaten rivals. Far from solid on his form for current stable but has come down the weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (9) (13/8 +19%) Sacred Falls |
13/8(+19%) | (9) Sacred Falls 13/8, 11/4, very good second of 5 in handicap at Hamilton (6f, good) 3 days ago, clear of rest. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Very much the one to beat. Went very close at Hamilton on Friday; likely to go up in the weights when reassessed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (10/1 -43%) Exalted Angel |
10/1(-43%) | (2) Exalted Angel 10/1, Twenty nine runs since last win in 2021. 9/2, last of 5 in handicap at Pontefract (5f, soft) 19 days ago. Chance on old form. Has the ability to win off this mark but he's on a very long losing run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (7/1 +50%) Northern Spirit |
7/1(+50%) | (1) Northern Spirit 7/1, 22/1, ninth of 11 in handicap at Newcastle (7.1f) 8 days ago, slowly away. Blinkers on 1st time. Others make more appeal. Solid record (341223) in turf handicaps; interesting returned to this sphere. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (15/2 +25%) Braveheart Boy |
15/2(+25%) | (7) Braveheart Boy 15/2, Twelve runs since last win in 2022. 28/1, good sixth of 15 in handicap at Thirsk (6f, soft) 16 days ago, helped by being held up in strongly-run race. 0-12 in handicaps and has proved inconsistent but current mark is workable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (4/1 -20%) Crypto Quest |
4/1(-20%) | (5) Crypto Quest 4/1, Good second of 6 in handicap at Catterick (6f, good, 7/2) 20 days ago. Not taken lightly. Went close in last two attempts over 6f, latest at Catterick three weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (8/1 +60%) Manigordo |
8/1(+60%) | (3) Manigordo 8/1, Eighth of 12 in handicap (28/1) at Catterick (7f, soft) 26 days ago, not knocked about. Back to a potentially lenient mark. Has suitable conditions for the first time since joining this yard; well treated. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (18/1 -125%) Gobi Sunset |
18/1(-125%) | (10) Gobi Sunset 18/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2023. Unseated rider in handicap (17/2) at Ayr (7.2f, good) 6 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Others more persuasive. Hasn't won on turf or over 6f since 2019; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (14/1 -75%) No Saint |
14/1(-75%) | (6) No Saint 14/1, 28/1, good second of 10 in handicap at Southwell (7.1f), finishing well. Off 150 days and respected on return. Best form over 7f; doesn't appear to be crying out for this return to 6f. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A couple of these went close on their latest outings, though Crypto Quest faces a tougher task than when beaten a neck at Catterick and SACRED FALLS is preferred. The latter just missed out in this grade at Hamilton on Friday and is taken to go one better with first-time cheekpieces possibly helping her cause. Exalted Angel slides further down the weights, while Gentle Ellen will be sharper for a recent reappearance and won over this track and trip last summer.
SACRED FALLS returned to form in no uncertain terms at Hamilton 3 days ago and, if the race doesn't come too soon, she should be able to go one better off the same mark. Crypto Quest is a danger and No Saint deserves respect.
Turned out quickly, SACRED FALLS (nap) holds particularly strong claims. Crypto Quest is feared most on recent form.

1st (1) (11/4 -38%) James Mchenry |
11/4(-38%) | (1) James Mchenry 11/4, Made a bright start to last season, winning his first 2 outings. Not seen to best effect on final 2 starts of the campaign, not ideally placed when eighth of 10 in handicap at Leicester (10f, good, 12/1) in October. Respected. This reappearance may be the time to catch him; won his first two starts last season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (10/1 -18%) Detective |
10/1(-18%) | (4) Detective 10/1, Five-time course winner. After 6 months off, last of 13 in handicap at Musselburgh (12.5f, good to soft, 80/1) 29 days ago, though he's not written off back down in trip returned to this venue. Five course wins include this race in 2022 (close second last year); not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (5/2 -11%) Redarna |
5/2(-11%) | (2) Redarna 5/2, Four-time course winner, with his latest success here last August. Has run well both starts this year, fourth of 14 in handicap (16/1) at Thirsk (8f, soft) 16 days ago. Leading contender returned to this lower grade. Retains plenty of ability aged ten; four-time winner at Carlisle; in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (13/2 +7%) Fools Rush In |
13/2(+7%) | (5) Fools Rush In 13/2, Twenty-one runs since last win in 2022. Ran better than on yard debut when ninth of 13 in handicap at Chester (7.6f, good to firm, 16/1) 10 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Task is now to build on his latest outing. Well treated on best form but doesn't appear poised to regain the winning thread. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (5/1 +17%) Ernie's Valentine |
5/1(+17%) | (3) Ernie's Valentine 5/1, Returned to winning ways at Kempton (8f) in April, before being drawn wide when ninth of 14 in handicap (11/1) at the same C&D 19 days ago. Worth another chance with conditions to suit back to turf. Has a better strike-rate on AW than on turf; doesn't look the percentage call. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (9/1 -50%) Strongbowe |
9/1(-50%) | (6) Strongbowe 9/1, C&D winner last summer. After 6 months off, probably needed the run when last of 9 in handicap (50/1) at Ripon (8f, heavy) 32 days ago. Now 2 lb below his last winning mark with cheekpieces back on. Good record over C&D includes a close third in this contest 12 months ago; solid. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Detective won this in 2022 and went close again in last year's renewal, but stablemate REDARNA looks to have stronger claims. Dianne Sayer's veteran arrives on the back of a good effort in the Hunt Cup at Thirsk and a similar effort in this lower grade contest should see him bang there at the finish. Ernie's Valentine won at Kempton last month but it's been some time since he scored on the turf, while Fools Rush In looks no nearer to ending a long losing run despite a slide down the handicap.
REDARNA has returned in decent heart this year, making the frame in the Thirsk Hunt Cup on his latest outing, so he can take advantage of this drop in grade to get back to winning ways. James McHenry made a winning reappearance last season and could be the main danger, ahead of Ernie's Valentine.
Veteran REDARNA has the best chance on last-time-out form. His stablemate Detective is second choice.

1st (3) (4/5 +54%) Paborus |
4/5(+54%) | (3) Paborus 4/5, Promising type. 9/4, won 12-runner minor event at Redcar (7f, soft) 18 days ago. That form was given a boost when the third won next time and he's a big player with further progress on the cards. Scored comfortably at Redcar last time and the form received a boost at York last week. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (20/1 -100%) Jonny Concrete |
20/1(-100%) | (9) Jonny Concrete 20/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Fourth of 5 in handicap at Pontefract (6f, soft, 16/1) 19 days ago. Looks vulnerable for win purposes. Mixed results over 6f; pedigree suggests he may improve for this new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (4/1 -45%) Secret World |
4/1(-45%) | (4) Secret World 4/1, Promising type. Won 12-runner maiden at Wolverhampton (7.2f, 9/1) when last seen in October. Further improvement likely and she's high on the shortlist. AW winner who is open to further progress and has a turf pedigree; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (13/2 -136%) Operate |
13/2(-136%) | (10) Operate 13/2, Lightly-raced maiden. Second of 3 in maiden at Pontefract (8f, soft, 5/4) 19 days ago, having run of race. Solid each-way chance. Consistent efforts at about 1m; shapes as if this drop to 7f will suit; leading claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (33/1 -106%) Financer |
33/1(-106%) | (7) Financer 33/1, Twice-raced maiden. 12/1, third of 5 in minor event at Ripon (9.8f, heavy) 23 days ago, slowly away. Down in trip and he's probably more one for handicaps in due course. Yard also saddles Beguiling. May do better at some stage but has something to prove as regards trip/ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (10/1 +0%) Bellasio |
10/1(+0%) | (6) Bellasio 10/1, Twice-raced maiden. 7/4, third of 9 in maiden at Newcastle (6f). Off 6 months and will need to raise his game now switched to turf. Something to find on his AW form but has a turf pedigree and may improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (11) (28/1 -133%) Beguiling |
28/1(-133%) | (11) Beguiling 28/1, Twice-raced maiden. 12/1, fourth of 10 in maiden at Thirsk (7f, soft) 16 days ago, nearest finish. Like stablemate Financer, she can be expected to improve when venturing down the handicap route. Has something to find on bare form but another step forward is possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (70/1 -112%) Highland Olly |
70/1(-112%) | (8) Highland Olly 70/1, 12,000 gns foal, 20,000 gns yearling, Cable Bay gelding. Half-brother to 2-y-o 5.5f winner Paper Star and 6f winner Amber Dew. Dam winner up to 8.3f (2-y-o 7f winner) who stayed 10.5f. Yard rarely strikes with newcomers. 20,000gns yearling; Cable Bay half-brother to two winners; market helpful. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) (125/1 -89%) Dandiva |
125/1(-89%) | (12) Dandiva 125/1, Twice-raced maiden. Eighth of 10 in maiden at Thirsk (7f, soft, 66/1) 16 days ago. Looks set for another struggle. Weak claims on form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (1) (200/1 -203%) Capitano |
200/1(-203%) | (1) Capitano 200/1, Twice-raced maiden. Blinkered for 1st time, first run since leaving Hugo Palmer when last of 6 in maiden (80/1) at Haydock (8f, heavy) 23 days ago, very slowly away. Readily passed over. Tailed-off last of six in a couple of Haydock contests. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (5) (125/1 -150%) Adaay With Michael |
125/1(-150%) | (5) Adaay With Michael 125/1, Twice-raced maiden. 66/1, last of 8 in maiden at Catterick (5f, good). Off 8 months and significantly up in trip. Achieved little in sprint maidens last August. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
PABORUS returned to action with a convincing success over today's 7f trip at Redcar. He's penalised for that win but further progress looks on the cards from Ed Bethell's charge and he can go in again. Secret World ended last year with a victory at Wolverhampton when beating a subsequent winner and now debuts on the turf, while Operate may find this faster going to his liking having finished runner-up on soft ground at Pontefract.
The two with the most appealing profiles are PABORUS and Secret World, both of whom stepped up on their debuts when winning last time and are open to improvement. The former did the job well at Redcar recently and, provided the forecast fast ground doesn't count against him, he could prove too strong for Charlie Johnston's charge. Operate is best of the rest.
Redcar winner PABORUS is taken to defy a 5lb penalty. Operate and Secret World are the chief threats on form.

15/2(+6%) | (3) Blufferonthebus 15/2, Winner at Pontefract in April. 13/2, never close enough to challenge when sixth of 12 in handicap at Ripon (8f, good) 10 days ago, needing stronger gallop. Each-way claims. Pontefract win came over 6f on soft ground; only midfield over 1m since. |

2nd (8) (10/1 -100%) Oceanic Wonder |
10/1(-100%) | (8) Oceanic Wonder 10/1, Stepped up on reappearance when fourth of 12 in handicap (16/1) at Ripon (8f, good) 10 days ago, sticking on to hit the frame despite racing freely over a longer trip. Can make presence felt. Ran well (close fourth) upped to 1m at Ripon ten days ago; possibilities. |

3rd (6) (5/2 +29%) Jesmond Dawn |
5/2(+29%) | (6) Jesmond Dawn 5/2, Well-backed 5/4, failed to improve to the extent the market anticipated when fourth of 8 on handicap debut at Catterick (7f, soft) 26 days ago. Interesting to see if his supporters return. Ran encouragingly at Catterick (handicap debut; well supported) last month. |

4th (1) (12/1 -50%) Love Yours |
12/1(-50%) | (1) Love Yours 12/1, Followed a below-par effort with an even worse one when last of 4 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f, 10/1) 3 months ago. Not discounted making her first start on turf for this yard. Best effort when going close off this mark at Newcastle three outings ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (11/1 +31%) Due Consideration |
11/1(+31%) | (2) Due Consideration 11/1, 15/2, ran no sort of race back on turf when last of 6 in handicap at Haydock (8f, heavy) 23 days ago. Can't be recommended after that. Very consistent in handicaps until form dipped markedly the last twice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (28/1 -75%) Jez Bomb |
28/1(-75%) | (7) Jez Bomb 28/1, Well held in 3 back-end novices. Makes handicap debut returning from 6 months off. Handicap debutant who is not solid on 2yo novice form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (9/2 -13%) Northern Cracksman |
9/2(-13%) | (10) Northern Cracksman 9/2, Visored for 1st time, again ran well when second of 6 in handicap at Haydock (8f, heavy, 7/2) 23 days ago. Blinkers back on. Has to be taken seriously back on a sounder surface. In-form maiden whose record over 1m is 3322; has an ordinary race in him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (8/1 -14%) Azure Stage |
8/1(-14%) | (4) Azure Stage 8/1, 150/1, could hardly have shown any less after 7 months off when ninth of 10 in maiden at Lingfield (7f, AW) 45 days ago. Blinkers on 1st time. Makes handicap debut and has been gelded. Newmarket raider who is open to improvement on handicap debut; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (12/1 -100%) Hardman |
12/1(-100%) | (5) Hardman 12/1, 25/1, failed to improve on qualifying run when sixth of 8 in minor event at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 11 weeks ago. Up in trip. Blinkers on 1st time. Makes handicap debut. May do better now handicapping and upped in distance; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (25/1 -56%) Rishi |
25/1(-56%) | (9) Rishi 25/1, 12/1, bit below form fifth of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 34 days ago. Up in trip. Makes turf debut. Others look stronger. Raced only on AW; best effort at 5f; enough to prove on turf debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Northern Cracksman placed yet again when second at Haydock and is still looking for a first win, as is OCEANIC WONDER. However, the latter posted an improved effort at Ripon on her first attempt at today's distance and looks capable of opening her account off her current mark. The latter had the measure of previous 6f winner Blufferonthebus at Ripon, while Jesmond Dawn finished closer at Catterick on his handicap debut and could go well.
A tricky finale to solve but NORTHERN CRACKSMAN has found just one too strong the last twice so Brian Ellison's charge can gain a deserved first success back in blinkers at the expense of Oceanic Wonder, who stepped up on her reappearance run at Ripon recently and made do better again. Blufferonthebus and Jesmond Dawn can do battle for minor honours.
There should be a bigger effort in JESMOND DAWN. Second choice is Northern Cracksman.
Ths is the racecard key.
