1st (4) (5/2 +69%) Moving Force |
5/2(+69%) | (4) Moving Force 5/2, Foaled March 2. Mehmas colt. Half-brother to useful 2-y-o 6f/7f winner New Definition. Dam 2-y-o 5f winner. Enough in his pedigree to make him well worth monitoring in the market on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (28/1 -75%) Nad Alshiba Snow |
28/1(-75%) | (7) Nad Alshiba Snow 28/1, Foaled February 14. €25,000 foal, €50,000 yearling, Oasis Dream filly. Half-sister to 1m winner Deverell. Stable had a winning 2yo newcomer last month, but normally they are better for a run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (9/2 +31%) Rajeteriat |
9/2(+31%) | (5) Rajeteriat 9/2, Foaled March 16. Mehmas colt. Dam 5f winner (including at 2 yrs) out of 7f/1m winner Conversational, half-sister to smart winner up to 1¼m Road To Love. 9/2, third of 6 in minor event at Southwell (5f) on debut 15 days ago. Open to progress. Third of six on his Southwell debut; probably needed to improve if he is to take this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (6/4 +0%) Assertively |
6/4(+0%) | (1) Assertively 6/4, Foaled February 6. 75,000 gns yearling, Acclamation colt. Dam unraced, closely related to smart 7f-9f winner (including Grade 1 winner in South Africa) Queen Supreme. 2/1, won 7-runner minor event at Ripon (5f, heavy) on debut 17 days ago. Should improve and highly respected. 7lb penalty for winning on soft ground at Ripon, but the stiffer track should suit; player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (10/1 +0%) Symbol Of Strength |
10/1(+0%) | (6) Symbol Of Strength 10/1, Foaled February 3. £100,000 yearling, Kodiac colt. Dam twice-raced, half-sister to useful winner up to 8.6f Firebird Song. Stable does have winning 2yo newcomers (including this month) so he's worth a market check. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (13/2 -136%) East Tyrone |
13/2(-136%) | (3) East Tyrone 13/2, Foaled January 8. £60,000 yearling, Mehmas colt. Dam twice-raced half-sister to useful 2-y-o 6f winner Vital Statistics out of useful winner up to 5f (including at 2 yrs) Emerald Peace. 10/3, promising second of 4 in maiden at Doncaster (5f, good to soft) on debut 12 days ago. May well do better. Second of four on Doncaster debut; more needed but the stiffer track should suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (50/1 -52%) Barmyblade |
50/1(-52%) | (2) Barmyblade 50/1, Foaled March 25. Kodiac colt. Dam winner up to 11f (2-y-o 1m winner) out of sister to smart French performer up to 9f San Marino Grey. 7½ lengths fourth of 7 to Assertively in minor event at Ripon (5f, heavy, 25/1) on debut 17 days ago. Needs a big step forward. Around 8l behind Assertively on Ripon debut; 7lb better off but a stiff task. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (150/1 -355%) Nellie Scobie |
150/1(-355%) | (8) Nellie Scobie 150/1, Foaled April 27. Bungle Inthejungle filly. Half-sister to 7f winner Smooth Spirit. Dam 6f winner (including at 2 yrs). Winning newcomers from stable are very rare; best watched unless market suggests otherwise. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
As a son of Mehmas, EAST TYRONE should enjoy quick ground and he looks the one to beat if building upon a highly encouraging debut effort when second at Doncaster. Kevin Ryan's colt is narrowly preferred to Ripon scorer Assertively, who has a 7lb penalty to overcome for that determined success, while Rajeteriat is another open to improvement after a promising first-time-out performance at Southwell.
ASSERTIVELY created a good impression on winning debut at Ripon and may well be up to defying his penalty. East Tyrone and Rajeteriat have a similar chance in receipt of weight after their promising debuts and head up the dangers.
The choice is ASSERTIVELY despite a 7lb penalty for his narrow Ripon debut success and likely different ground conditions.

1st (2) (4/9 +71%) Lochaber |
4/9(+71%) | (2) Lochaber 4/9, Fair performer who, equipped with first-time cheekpieces (retained here) settled much better reverting to leading when second of 8 in handicap (13/2) at Doncaster (6f, good to soft) 12 days ago, clear of rest. Has good chance on form. Has gone close in two of his last four starts (clear of the third last time); major player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (7/1 +22%) Ninety Nine |
7/1(+22%) | (3) Ninety Nine 7/1, Maiden winner for Richard Fahey last June who is yet to scale same heights for present yard, third of 4 in handicap (18/1) at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 13 days ago. Ease in class rates a plus now at least. Hamilton winner last summer, but modest so far for this yard; more needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (33/1 +0%) Grid Iron Maiden |
33/1(+0%) | (6) Grid Iron Maiden 33/1, Cheekpieces on for 1st time, ninth of 11 in handicap at Southwell (5f, 25/1) 49 days ago, dropping away inside final 1f. Tongue strap on 1st time. Others preferred. Encouraging return at Newcastle in February, but not built on it; tongue-tie on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (8/1 -167%) Vanity Pays |
8/1(-167%) | (9) Vanity Pays 8/1, Fair filly. Below form fourth of 8 in handicap (25/1) at Pontefract (6f, heavy) 22 days ago, doing too much too soon. Blinkers back on and good claims on these terms if she can leave that effort in her wake. Favoured by the race conditions, but below form in recent starts and is now 0-12. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (11/2 -38%) Better |
11/2(-38%) | (1) Better 11/2, Fair gelding. Winner at Wolverhampton in December. Tongue strap on for 1st time, seventh of 10 in handicap at Southwell (6.1f, 9/2) 49 days ago. Changed hands for 5,500 gns since and not discounted down in grade. Won in emphatic fashion on AW in December; stable debut and still to prove himself on turf. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (25/1 +24%) Askim |
25/1(+24%) | (5) Askim 25/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 33/1, seventh of 10 in handicap at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 31 days ago. Significantly back down in trip and she's hard to fancy. Hasn't finished within 9l of the winner in four starts; leap of faith required. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (28/1 -27%) Lazareti |
28/1(-27%) | (7) Lazareti 28/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Last of 9 in nursery at Musselburgh (5f, good to soft, 10/1) in September, left behind over 1f out and eased last ½f. Absent since and improvement needed if she's to feature. Third of five at Pontefract last August, but well held in both nurseries; off eight months. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (200/1 -300%) Thea Bell |
200/1(-300%) | (8) Thea Bell 200/1, Outstrip filly who has yet to beat a rival in pair of novice events at up to 6f this spring. Looks up against it even allowing for the drop in class. Has finished a well-beaten last in both starts in novices; hard to make a case for. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (150/1 -650%) Profitable Dreams |
150/1(-650%) | (4) Profitable Dreams 150/1, Winner at Chepstow for Alice Haynes 12 months ago but failed to beat a rival in 3 starts for present stable thereafter and she's likely best watched on return from 7 months off. Chepstow winner a year ago, but finished last in all four starts since; off eight months. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
A maiden after nine starts, this looks as good an opportunity as any for LOCHABER to get off the mark, following a strong runner-up effort over 6f in a Doncaster handicap. Dropping back in trip should not inconvenience him and it may be Better who gives him the most to think about on his first run for the Paul Midgley stable. Vanity Pays has taken her time to settle on these shores, but her most recent effort at Pontefract gave hope that there could be improvement forthcoming.
LOCHABER looked well suited reverting back to leading when runner-up behind a thriving sort at Doncaster (6f) recently, and with the return to the minimum trip holding no fears, he looks a big player down in grade with the cheekpieces retained. Vanity Pays holds good claims on these terms if bouncing back down in class, with Better, on debut for Paul Midgley, also entering calculations.
Preference is for LOCHABER who didn't do much wrong when narrowly beaten in a Doncaster handicap (first two clear) 12 days ago.

Ghathanfar |
(4) (11/2 +0%)11/2(+0%) | (4) Ghathanfar 11/2, Nineteen runs since last win in 2022 but he starts this campaign on an attractive mark as a result and returned from 7 months off with creditable third of 9 in handicap at Windsor (6f, good to firm, 10/3) 22 days ago. One to bear in mind. Engaged 4.47 Catterick Monday. Losing run up to 20; something to prove back at 5f; in good form, though, pipped yesterday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (5) (10/1 -82%) Emeralds Pride |
10/1(-82%) | (5) Emeralds Pride 10/1, C&D winner who thrived during the second half of last year, showing a good attitude when completing the hat-trick in 14-runner handicap at Redcar (5f, good) in September. Yard's runners have largely been better for a run so far this term but worth noting if the market speaks in her favour. Completed a hat-trick at the end of last season; has won fresh before; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (17/2 +47%) Mattella |
17/2(+47%) | (10) Mattella 17/2, 5/1, bit below form seventh of 13 in handicap at Thirsk (6f, heavy) 35 days ago, weakening over 1f out. Remains early days, including on turf but she does need to step up to play a lead role here. 0-6 and hard to know what she will make of the likely different conditions. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (10/3 +52%) Thankuappreciate |
10/3(+52%) | (2) Thankuappreciate 10/3, Twelve runs since last win in 2022. Bit below form fourth of 13 in handicap (8/1) at Thirsk (6f, heavy) 24 days ago, keeping on when edging right inside final 1f. Not taken lightly. Consistent despite a record of 1-16; ran well on return but 6f may suit him better now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (11/2 +31%) Burj Malinka |
11/2(+31%) | (9) Burj Malinka 11/2, Latest win at Thirsk in April. Creditable third of 7 in handicap at Hamilton (6f, good to soft, 3/1) 9 days ago. Should give another good account. Running well since returned to turf, but ground faster than good may not be ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (4/1 +20%) Digital |
4/1(+20%) | (1) Digital 4/1, Winner of a Kempton claimer (6f) for Karl Burke in October and best effort since joining present yard when third of 6 in handicap at Wetherby (5.5f, soft, 8/1) 16 days ago. Has fallen a long way in the weights if he can build on that here back down in grade. Still 1lb lower than when successful on the AW last October and respected down in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (6/1 -9%) Maharajas Express |
6/1(-9%) | (3) Maharajas Express 6/1, Latest win at Bath in April. 9/2, good third of 13 in handicap at Bath (5.7f, soft) 16 days ago. Encounters quicker ground here but not discounted in present groove. Has done well since returned to turf, but good or faster ground would be a question mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (6/1 +40%) J R Cavagin |
6/1(+40%) | (8) J R Cavagin 6/1, C&D winner. 12/1, possibly needed the run when seventh of 12 in handicap at Newcastle (5f) 18 days ago. Return to this sounder surface rates a plus and better showing likely. Probably needed last month's return but still 5lb higher than for last autumn's Redcar win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (28/1 -40%) Athollblair Boy |
28/1(-40%) | (7) Athollblair Boy 28/1, Veteran who added another pair of victories to his tally at Newcastle earlier this year. Winning run ended when sixth of 8 in handicap back at that venue in March though, and others preferred back on turf. Just 3-55 on turf so he makes little appeal under these conditions.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (18/1 -50%) Masterclass |
18/1(-50%) | (6) Masterclass 18/1, 7/4, creditable second of 6 in handicap at Southwell (5f) 35 days ago, nearest finish. First run for yard after leaving David Simcock. On turf for the first time since August; 6f may suit better and drawn wide; stable debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A determined winner over C&D last August to form the second leg of a hat-trick, EMERALDS PRIDE is taken to begin this season the way she ended the last. A mark of 68 still looks manageable and on ground that should suit, she may have too much for Maharajas Express and Thankuappreciate, who was something of an eyecatcher at Thirsk when slowly away before running on late for fourth.
DIGITAL produced his best effort to date for Ruth Carr from his sliding mark when third at Wetherby 16 days ago and from a handy draw, he could be worth chancing to build on that returned to the minimum trip. Ghathanfar (engaged to run at Catterick on Monday) lurks on a very handy mark and is feared. Burj Malinka and Emeralds Pride complete the shortlist.
Preference is for DIGITAL who ran his best race since joining Ruth Carr at Wetherby last time. He could take another step forward.

1st (3) (8/1 +20%) Bella Kopella |
8/1(+20%) | (3) Bella Kopella 8/1, C&D winner. Latest win at Newcastle in March. 15/2, last of 8 in handicap at Doncaster (6f, soft) 17 days ago, possibly unsuited by conditions. Better showing anticipated returned to this quicker ground. Suited by this C&D, winning in July and and a close 3rd later; higher in weights now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (12/1 -50%) Dandy Dinmont |
12/1(-50%) | (1) Dandy Dinmont 12/1, Twelve runs since last win in 2022. 4/1, eighth of 10 in handicap at Newcastle (5f) in October, no extra final 1f. Eased further in the weights ahead of his return to action and the market should guide. In the frame in all four C&D starts; quick out of the blocks in 2023; weighted to go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (5/1 -11%) Herakles |
5/1(-11%) | (8) Herakles 5/1, Latest win at Newcastle in January. 7/2, respectable third of 8 in handicap at Pontefract (5f, heavy) 22 days ago, no extra inside final 1f. Can give another good account for all his mark is probably about right. Two AW wins; 0-8 on turf but possibilities for yard that's won 3 of the last 5 runnings. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (50/1 -79%) Opal Storm |
50/1(-79%) | (10) Opal Storm 50/1, Improved to spring a 66/1 surprise in 10-runner handicap at Carlisle (5f, good to firm) in September. Far from disgraced on final 2 starts last term but possibly best watched returning from 7 months off. Won the 2nd of just 4 handicaps, over 5f on good to firm; off since September; new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (11/1 -144%) Fortunate Star |
11/1(-144%) | (5) Fortunate Star 11/1, Looked rejuvenated by refitting of blinkers when winning 8-runner handicap at Catterick (5f, good, 13/2) 14 days ago, well on top finish. More on his plate back up in class from widest draw but he can't be discounted. Clear 5f winner latest; back up 5lb from widest draw on stiffer track than he's used to. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (14/1 -17%) Never This Way |
14/1(-17%) | (7) Never This Way 14/1, Maiden who stepped up on reappearance/yard debut effort when sixth of 12 in handicap at Newcastle (5f) 18 days ago. Just as effective on turf and she's another who is steadily easing in the weights. Maiden; twice went close for W Haggas in 2023; well held for new yard; dropping in weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (10/3 +17%) Sound Reason |
10/3(+17%) | (4) Sound Reason 10/3, C&D winner. First run since leaving Kevin Ryan/after 6 months off when fourth of 8 in handicap at Pontefract (5f, heavy, 7/2) 22 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Now below last winning mark and worth considering. Two C&D wins for previous yard; 4lb lower than the latest of them last July. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (22/1 -120%) Zuffolo |
22/1(-120%) | (6) Zuffolo 22/1, Latest win at Newcastle in November. Ninth of 12 in handicap back at that venue (5f) 18 days ago, weakening 1f out. Needs to hit the ground running returned to turf. Respectable C&D form; might prefer an easier 5f; 4lb lower than latest turf win last May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (14/1 -40%) Havagomecca |
14/1(-40%) | (9) Havagomecca 14/1, 6-y-o mare who has gained each of her last 2 victories at Musselburgh, latterly this time last year. Shaped as if better for the run when seventh of 10 in handicap at Ayr (5f, good) on return 12 days ago and she won second time out last term. Has C&D form and versatile regarding the ground; on a good mark now; likely player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (2) (5/2 +79%) Ey Up It's Maggie |
5/2(+79%) | (2) Ey Up It's Maggie 5/2, Scored twice with give underfoot last season, latterly at Ripon (5f) in August. Not seen to best effect either start on turf this spring on account of track position and the handicapper is steadily easing his grip. Not one to write off. Has gone close in two of her three C&D starts but well held in two turf starts this year. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
SOUND REASON made a promising enough start for David O'Meara when fourth at Pontefract, shaping as if he would benefit from the outing. The six-year-old arrives 4lb lower than his last victory, which came over C&D, so it wouldn't be a major surprise if he reversed last month's form with Herakles, who finished one place ahead and had fitness on his side. Bella Kopella could have been inconvenienced by soft ground at Doncaster and is worth another chance, while Fortunate Star defied a slow start to win at Catterick, although a 5lb rise makes life tougher.
A winner from a 4 lb higher mark over C&D last summer, SOUND REASON ought to be sharper for his reappearance/yard debut effort at Pontefract 3 weeks ago and with the headgear refitted, he could well be worth siding with to take a step forward. Catterick-scorer Fortunate Star and Haveagomecca are others to consider, along with Herakles.
This can go to SOUND REASON who is on a handy mark for new connections and is a dual C&D winner. Herakles can be next best.

She's Got Bottle |
(5) (3/1 +14%)3/1(+14%) | (5) She's Got Bottle 3/1, Improved model this spring, well backed to resume winning ways at Pontefract (1m) at the start of the month and made light of a 5 lb penalty when following up in a C&D event last week. Lots to like in hat-trick bid for all this is tougher. Bids for a hat-trick after wins at Pontefract and over C&D; player again under her penalty. |

1st (8) (12/1 -20%) Coolree |
12/1(-20%) | (8) Coolree 12/1, Creditable third of 9 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f, 11/4) 21 days ago, challenged under 2f out and one paced. May need further assistance from the handicapper before becoming of significant interest. 1-18; running with credit on the AW lately, but not sure what to expect back on turf. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (4/1 +20%) Beltane |
4/1(+20%) | (1) Beltane 4/1, C&D winner from 5 lb higher mark 11 months ago and best effort since the turn of the year when third returned to this C&D 3 weeks ago. Well treated if he can build on that now. C&D winner; in a 0-70 for the first time since winning at Musselburgh just over a year ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (9/1 +64%) War Chant |
9/1(+64%) | (2) War Chant 9/1, Much improved when rattling off quick-fire hat-trick in handicaps at around 1m last summer. Well below form final 2 starts and market may prove a good guide as to expectations returning from 8 months off. Enough to prove going right-handed for the first time after eight months off; drawn wide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (12) (40/1 -21%) Mickey Mongoose |
40/1(-21%) | (12) Mickey Mongoose 40/1, Latest win at Southwell in March. Twelfth of 14 in handicap (16/1) back at that venue (11.1f) 44 days ago. Back down in trip. Others more persuasive. A contrast so far for this yard, his Southwell win standing way above his other efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (14/1 -40%) Poet's Dawn |
14/1(-40%) | (4) Poet's Dawn 14/1, 4-time C&D winner who ended last season with sound in-the-frame efforts at York/Newmarket. Feasible to think he needed the run back from 6 months off at Ripon (1m, heavy) 26 days ago and handy draw to operate from here. Nine-time turf winner who acts on any ground, but remains 4lb above his last winning mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (14) (15/2 +38%) Langton Wold |
15/2(+38%) | (14) Langton Wold 15/2, Largely ran with credit in defeat on the level last term and matched previous best (fair form) when successful over hurdles at Sedgefield (16.8f) in December. Respectable fourth when last seen in that sphere in February and not out of things returned to the level. Going well over hurdles lately; could go well back on Flat provided this isn't too sharp. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (14/1 +13%) King Of York |
14/1(+13%) | (7) King Of York 14/1, Latest win at Southwell (7f) in March. 20/1, seventh of 11 in handicap back at that venue (7.1f) 16 days ago, very slowly away. Others appeal more back on turf. Both wins in 29 starts on the AW; has it all to do back on turf (0-10). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (16) (80/1 -142%) Whatwouldyouknow |
80/1(-142%) | (16) Whatwouldyouknow 80/1, Course winner. Latest win at Newcastle in November but out of sorts when last seen on AW earlier this year, seventh of 8 in handicap at Newcastle (1m) in February. Not seen on turf since August 2022; seems to have gone off the boil on the AW lately. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (13/2 +41%) Strangerontheshore |
13/2(+41%) | (9) Strangerontheshore 13/2, C&D winner. Respectable fourth of 13 in handicap (28/1) at this course (7.4f, good) 8 days ago, keeping on. That should have put him spot on for this and he's an each-way player. Dual C&D winner in 2022; ran well on her recent reappearance over 7f; plenty of appeal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (13) (20/1 -11%) Tasever |
20/1(-11%) | (13) Tasever 20/1, Maiden who went close to bucking that trend on a couple of occasions last term, including at Pontefract (1m) in October. Well beaten after 5 months off at Thirsk (7f, heavy) 5 weeks ago though, and he'll need to leave that in his wake. Widest draw to overcome. Beaten a very long way on his Thirsk reappearance and now 0-15; drawn widest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (6) (12/1 +40%) Soames Forsyte |
12/1(+40%) | (6) Soames Forsyte 12/1, Ninth of 14 in handicap at Southwell (8.1f, 9/2) 35 days ago, short of room over 2f out and not quicken. Remains 2 lb above last winning mark returned to turf. Both wins in 25 starts on the AW; has it all to do back on turf (0-9). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (10) (9/2 +50%) Young Fire |
9/2(+50%) | (10) Young Fire 9/2, Twelve runs since last win in 2023. Fourth of 14 in handicap (10/1) at Thirsk (8f, soft) 10 days ago, never nearer. Visor back on and he's worth a second look from a handy draw/career-low mark. 12 runs since his last win; will need all the luck going from the inside stall. |

13th (3) (17/2 +23%) Lenny's Spirit |
17/2(+23%) | (3) Lenny's Spirit 17/2, 7/2, fourth of 7 in handicap at this course (9.9f, good to soft) 19 days ago, not having the room to fully open up in the final 2f. Slow starts have crept in of late however, and that does need monitoring. Won three times over 1m2f on turf last summer; this trip looks inadequate for him now. |

14th (11) (50/1 +0%) Rievaulx Raver |
50/1(+0%) | (11) Rievaulx Raver 50/1, Last of 14 in handicap (50/1) at Thirsk (8f, soft) 10 days ago. Usual cheekpieces back on but yard look to hold much stronger claims with She's Got Bottle. Not beaten many in his last four starts including on his recent reappearance; best watched. |

15th (17) (125/1 -279%) The Muffin Man |
125/1(-279%) | (17) The Muffin Man 125/1, 13/2, sixth of 9 in minor event at Catterick (7f, good). Off 8 months. Back up in trip. First run for yard after leaving Jessica Macey. Plenty to find on form. 0-11; 5lb out of the weights on this stable debut after 258 days off; hard to fancy. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
SHE'S GOT BOTTLE benefited from a couple of all-weather outings earlier in the year when gaining a brace of victories at Pontefract and over C&D under a 5lb penalty. The five-year-old is taken to continue in this rich vein of form in a contest where most of her rivals arrive with questions to answer. Strangerontheshore wasn't disgraced on her return here over shorter last week and is capable of better. Beltane and Lenny's Spirit appeal most of the remainder.
YOUNG FIRE ran well having been caught wider than ideal when fourth at Thirsk 10 days ago and, lurking on a very dangerous mark, he could well be worth chancing in the hope he gets the gaps with his usual visor refitted. Beltane is another on a handy mark and feared along with the thriving She's Got Bottle who steps back up in class in pursuit of the hat-trick. Lennys Spirit is also in the mix.
The vote goes to dual C&D winner STRANGERONTHESHORE (nap) who made a promising comeback over an inadequate 7f here eight days ago.

1st (1) (8/1 -14%) Flickering Halo |
8/1(-14%) | (1) Flickering Halo 8/1, Lightly-raced colt who failed to justify support returned to turf when seventh of 12 in maiden at Ripon (12f, heavy, 11/2) 26 days ago, weakening under 2f out. Drop back in trip could help here and not one to write off. May appreciate the likely better ground, but could still find one or two too good. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (11/2 +31%) Knight Templar |
11/2(+31%) | (7) Knight Templar 11/2, Son of Haafhd who finished down the field all 4 starts as a juvenile at up to 7f. However, gelded ahead of return and he's just the type his yard excel with in handicaps stepping up in trip. Well worth considering starting from a low base. Upped in trip for his handicap debut after 257 days off and could show a lot more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (3/1 +14%) L'eagle Aid |
3/1(+14%) | (5) L'eagle Aid 3/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 5/4, fourth of 9 in minor event at Wolverhampton (8.6f). Off 139 days and longer trip could unlock some progress now handicapping. Up in trip for his turf/handicap debut after 139 days off; worth a second look. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (13/2 -30%) Kingmont |
13/2(-30%) | (4) Kingmont 13/2, Left debut form well behind when making a winning return from 4 months off at Kempton (11f) in April. Not disgraced when third of 7 in handicap at Doncaster (11.9f, soft) 17 days ago and feasible to think she could do better still. Down in trip. Probably found 1m4f and soft ground too much for her last time; could bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (2/1 +50%) Straight A |
2/1(+50%) | (3) Straight A 2/1, Won at Yarmouth on his second start and ran well when fourth in a Thirsk nursery in September. Gelded ahead of return, ran creditably when fourth of 13 in handicap (6/1) at Doncaster (8f, soft) 18 days ago. Likely to be sharper with that run under his belt. Fast-ground winner at 2 who ran with credit on last month's return; should stay; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (14/1 -17%) Game Management |
14/1(-17%) | (6) Game Management 14/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Off 4 months/gelded, not seen to best effect when eighth of 9 in handicap at Southwell (8.1f, 40/1) 32 days ago. This should reveal more and he's not one to give up on yet. Regressive since handicapping, but is bred to relish the longer trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (12/1 -140%) Kaaress |
12/1(-140%) | (2) Kaaress 12/1, 1 win from 2 runs this year. 6/1, career best when winning 3-runner handicap at Redcar (10f, soft) 12 days ago, very slowly away and very well served by coming from off the overly-strong gallop. Nudged up only 2 lb ahead of this. Three-time AW winner who beat her two rivals to win at Redcar last time; knows how to win. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A mile and a half on soft ground might have been too much for KINGMONT on her handicap bow at Doncaster and she has every chance of bouncing back on this occasion. A winner on her second start at Kempton, the drop in trip may also yield improvement. Flickering Halo could be a threat back in handicap company having struggled in a heavy-ground maiden at Ripon. Handicap debutant L'Eagle Aid is capable of stepping forward.
KNIGHT TEMPLAR never figured in a handful of starts as a 2-y-o yet he's just the type his shrewd stable does well with in handicaps, so he could be the way to go on return/upped in trip without the benefit of market clues. Straight A and L'eagle Aid are a couple of others to consider.
Preference is for KINGMONT who seemed to find 1m4f on soft ground too much last time. The drop in trip could see her bounce back.

1st (1) (7/4 +30%) Spartan Warrior |
7/4(+30%) | (1) Spartan Warrior 7/4, Saxon Warrior gelding who justified good support equipped with first-time cheekpieces when winning 6-runner handicap at this course (9.9f, good, 5/4) 8 days ago, kept up to work. More on his plate under a penalty in what looks a deeper race. Off the mark over 1m2f here eight days ago; 6lb penalty, but may have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (9/2 +25%) Miss Gitana |
9/2(+25%) | (3) Miss Gitana 9/2, Four runs at around 7f last year. 11/2, improved on those efforts when very good fourth of 9 in handicap at Yarmouth (10.1f, good) 14 days ago, running on without being unduly punished. Type to go on improving, including over this even longer trip. Showed more on handicap debut/reappearance last month; longer trip no issue; shortlisted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (17/2 +15%) Rogue King |
17/2(+15%) | (2) Rogue King 17/2, Lightly-raced maiden. 15/2, first run since leaving Tom Clover when sixth of 9 in handicap at Yarmouth (8f, good) 14 days ago, slowly away. Significantly up in trip. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Pedigree suggests he could improve for the big step up in trip; cheekpieces on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (15/2 -36%) Walter Hartright |
15/2(-36%) | (5) Walter Hartright 15/2, Lightly-raced maiden. Cheekpieces on for 1st time, good third of 7 in handicap (22/1) at Windsor (11.4f, good to firm) 22 days ago. Visor on 1st time. Expected to be bang there. Much better when third at Windsor last time; claims if building on that effort; visor on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (11/1 -22%) Made In China |
11/1(-22%) | (4) Made In China 11/1, Showed ability in handful of starts as a 2-y-o but disappointed on back of 4 months off (also gelded) when sixth of 7 in handicap (7/2) at Newcastle (10.2f) 50 days ago. Needs to leave that behind to figure here. 0-7; should stay this far but others look a bit more progressive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (10/3 +26%) Solar Bentley |
10/3(+26%) | (6) Solar Bentley 10/3, Good second of 8 in handicap (13/2) at Doncaster (10.2f, good to soft) 12 days ago, staying on. Even longer trip could unlock a little more progress now. Runner-up in both starts since visored; longer trip no problem on breeding; go well again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (18/1 -80%) Miss Galiway |
18/1(-80%) | (8) Miss Galiway 18/1, Good 5½ lengths third of 6 to Spartan Warrior in handicap (13/2) at this course (9.9f, good) 8 days ago, racing off the pace. More needed up in trip. Behind Spartan Warrior here last time; 6lb pull for a beating of over 5l not enough. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (33/1 -106%) Happy Helen |
33/1(-106%) | (7) Happy Helen 33/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 11/2, possibly needed the run when eighth of 12 in handicap at Redcar (8f, soft) 12 days ago, weakening from 2f out. Significantly up in trip. Bred to appreciate this sort of trip, but improvement is needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (150/1 -127%) Turkish Tiger |
150/1(-127%) | (9) Turkish Tiger 150/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Well-beaten last of 6 to Spartan Warrior in handicap (28/1) at this course (9.9f, good) 8 days ago. Up in trip. Cheekpieces/tongue tie now reached for. Not beaten many in five starts; new headgear combination needs to make a huge difference. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
SPARTAN WARRIOR responded well to first-time cheekpieces when getting off the mark here over 1m2f last week and the extra couple of furlongs is unlikely to pose any concern. Miss Galiway was doing her best work at the finish when third behind the selection and is bred to improve for stepping up in trip, with similar comments applying to Miss Gitana following her fourth at Yarmouth.
MISS GITANA improved on her exploits as a 2-y-o without being seen to best effect when fourth at Yarmouth 2 weeks ago, and with the likelihood of more to come, she earns the vote to confirm the promise of that run stepping up further in trip. Recent course winner Spartan Warrior and Walter Hartright are others fancied to feature, with Solar Bentley another who may appreciate this further increase in trip.
The vote goes to SOLAR BENTLEY who has finished runner-up in both starts since the visor went on. The longer trip should suit.
Ths is the racecard key.
