(5) Boolamore Classic 5/2, Well held completed starts over hurdles and fared no better sent chasing at Newcastle last month. Quickly back over timber and needs a first-time visor to spark some major improvement.

Still a maiden but responded well to the visor when third of 16 at Hexham.

(1) Rob Roy Macgregor 11/2, Bumper winner and offered something to work on first 2 outings over hurdles in 2023/24. However, his form the wrong way and he was behind from early on the final circuit when last seen at Perth (20.2f, good to soft) 7 months ago. Handicapper given him a chance on return.
Mark is dropping sharply and they claim 6lb, so not one to give up on just yet.

7
7/1(-17%)
(9) Ideal De Romay 7/1, Irish point winner who is winless under Rules but shaped better than on yard debut when eighth of 9 at Carlisle in November, travelling well for a long way. Built on that returned to fences when runner-up at Newcastle (23.4f, good to soft) recently but he's 6 lb out the weights back hurdling.
Things are looking up for his new yard but being 6lb out of the weights is a drawback.

Trip/ground fine but he's a longstanding maiden and hard to trust.

13:00 Ayr Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 21f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Ideal De Romay produced a better effort to fill the runner-up spot over fences at Newcastle and should go well, but he will need to transfer that form to this sphere. REAGROVE LORD had Teddy Mac (fifth) behind when making the frame in this grade at Hexham on his most recent start and the handicapper might have been kind to leave his mark alone. If he can run to a similar level, he could be the one to beat. Boolamore Classic completes the shortlist.

ROB ROY MACGREGOR was out of sorts when last seen in the spring but, having been given a chance by the handicapper, Sandy Thomson's 7-y-o is afforded the tentative nod to open his account in this sphere. The main danger may emerge from Reagrove Lord, who ran close to best fitted in a first-time visor at Hexham last month and could well build on that here. Teddy Mac and Blended Stealth can fight out third.

All of these come with an element of risk. Marginal preference is for REAGROVE LORD who ran well in the new visor at Hexham.

13:30 Ayr Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Reflection Of You beat Royal Creek (sixth) when third at Kelso and is expected to confirm her authority over that rival to go close. However, it might prove significant that Derek Fox is booked for her stablemate GOLDEN POINT. Lucinda Russell's six-year-old took a step forward from her first start over hurdles to make the frame at Carlisle and she could find the improvement required to get off the mark. Any market support behind Just Her Type would be interesting.

GOLDEN POINT stuck to her task pretty well when third at Carlisle a month ago and with this slight step up in trip sure to suit, she's capable of winning a novice against her own sex. Holly Bird and Royal Creek are a couple of potential threats.

This looks a good opportunity for HOLLY BIRD who ran perfectly well behind the classy Country Mile on her final start.

14:00 Ayr Handicap Chase (Class 4) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

TRAVAIL D'ORFEVRE made the frame in the Borders National at Kelso and could be the answer having been dropped 1lb since that effort. Today's shorter trip is unlikely to pose him any problems and this appears a good opportunity for the bottom-weight to get his head back in front. Shighness is entitled to be sharper for her return at Carlisle last month, while C&D winner Destiny Is All is also respected.

The consistent TRAVAIL D'ORFEVRE could be the answer on his first attempt at 3m following a highly respectable effort over a marathon trip in the Borders National. It took a few runs before Prince des Fichaux was able to do himself justice last season and he will be a real threat if able to reproduce the form he showed at Newcastle last winter. Monochromix also makes some appeal.

This can go to TRAVAIL D'ORFEVRE, who usually runs over shorter trips but gave a very good account over 4m last month.

14:35 Ayr Handicap Chase (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Now that the penny has dropped for TOMMY COMBATS after a relatively comfortable breakthrough success at Hexham, the Martin Todhunter-trained six-year-old is likely to have plenty more to come off 5lb higher. He can uphold form with Raffles Wonder (third) and Heeztheboy (fourth) from that contest, with Flash Du Pistolet another to consider now that he drops back in distance.

RAFFLES WONDER is appealing in this rematch with Tommy Combats, having finished just over 2 lengths adrift of that rival on his chase debut at Hexham last month and now meets that rival on 5 lb better terms. Tommy Combats had race-fitness and experience over fences to draw upon that day, factors which help strengthen the case for the selection, who should be sharper here. Heeztheboy was a good fourth in the same Hexham handicap and should also make his presence felt.

Top of the list is the lightly raced 6yo TOMMY COMBATS, who made it second-time lucky over fences when scoring at Hexham last month.

15:10 Ayr Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Turned out again quickly after an easy success on his handicap hurdle debut at Catterick last week, MAGHLAAK looks more than capable of following up under a 7lb penalty for his in-form connections. That may be at the main expense of Yorkshire Lady, who should come on plenty for just her second start over timber at Wetherby. Placed on each of his three starts since joining George Bewley, Rock On Jet is expected to be thereabouts as well.

A race which essentially revolves around MAGHLAAK, who will be hard to beat under a penalty if over his New Year's Day exertions. Yorkshire Lady could be wiser with her first experience of a handicap hurdle behind her and is second choice ahead of handicap newcomer Rock On Jet.

With him so useful on the Flat, it's no surprise to see MAGHLAAK now doing well over hurdles and he can bring up the hat-trick.

15:45 Ayr NH Flat Race (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

A promising third when going from the front and only headed inside the final furlong at Musselburgh, KEVLAR is entitled to improve plenty for the experience and he can strike with Brian Hughes taking over in the saddle. A well-related sort by Champs Elysees for a leading owner, Auchinlek is a newcomer to note, as is Baratablet, who has a decent NH pedigree. The Lucinda Russell yard is in fine form, and Kelvin Forlonge wasn't disgraced on debut at Hexham.

BARATABLET is likely to need further in time but makes appeal on pedigree and represents a stable that does well in this sphere, so he could be worth chancing if the market speaks in his favour. Point winner Parish Quiz is another one to note and Kevlar is the clear pick of those with bumper form.

A chance is taken on BARATABLET, representing a yard that's won this bumper twice since 2019.
