1st (11) (16/1 +20%) Rebel Intentions |
16/1(+20%) | (11) Rebel Intentions 16/1, Got off the mark at Fontwell (21.8f) in August and even better form when second of 12 at Plumpton (20.5f) since. This is harder but he'll relish a test for last year's winning yard. 1st and 2nd on good on last two starts; has more to prove back on much more testing ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (4/1 +27%) Ed Keeper |
4/1(+27%) | (2) Ed Keeper 4/1, Took another step forward as he opened his account at Bangor over this trip when last seen in March, pulling clear with a subsequent winner. Tongue tie on for return/handicap debut and should be competitive. Won maiden at Bangor (2m3f, good to soft) in March, with the front two drawing 21l clear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (13/8 +14%) Immortal |
13/8(+14%) | (7) Immortal 13/8, Promising start in 2m Sandown novice hurdles last term (tongue tied second start after breathing op). Promises to do better now handicapping with longer trip sure to suit. Another who has quickly had a second wind op. One to consider. Runner-up in two 2m novice hurdles at Sandown; wind op before and after his latest start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (11/2 +15%) Idem |
11/2(+15%) | (1) Idem 11/2, Has made a bright start over hurdles, impressive as he quickened clear under a hands-and-heels ride at Kelso (over 21f) 7 weeks ago. More needed now handicapping but no surprise if he's up to it. Won at Hexham (2m) and Kelso (2m5f; impressive) in his two hurdle races; promising. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (20/1 -25%) Lipa K |
20/1(-25%) | (10) Lipa K 20/1, Doubled up at Warwick and Ludlow in the spring (both 2m) and returned with a good effort at Stratford 26 days ago, finishing placed despite a more truly-run race likely to have been ideal. This is tougher. Dual handicap winner; needs better but this sort of trip looks worth the second attempt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (9/1 -20%) Saladam |
9/1(-20%) | (5) Saladam 9/1, Popular in the betting last term and opened his account after a breathing operation in Market Rasen maiden over 20.7f when last seen in April. Could have more to offer now handicapping this season. Has had another wind op in the meantime. Won a maiden at Market Rasen in April when last seen; had wind surgery either side of that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (12/1 -118%) Awaythelad |
12/1(-118%) | (4) Awaythelad 12/1, Showed fair form in a trio of starts in bumpers and again over hurdles last season, second in novice at Fontwell (17.7f, soft) in March. Tongue strap back on for his handicap debut and not completely dismissed on return. Probably no ground concerns; step back up in trip should help on handicap/seasonal debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (28/1 -100%) Estacas |
28/1(-100%) | (6) Estacas 28/1, Won the concluding bumper here in 2021 and landed 2m novice handicap hurdle at Huntingdon in the spring. Little impact on the level 4 months ago but there's still mileage in him in this sphere and could feature. Improvement is needed but the step back up in trip offers some hope. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (40/1 -60%) Young Merlin |
40/1(-60%) | (3) Young Merlin 40/1, Three-time winner on the Flat and enjoyed a good summer over hurdles, landing a hat-trick (at up to 17.2f). Poor up in trip at Worcester 5 weeks ago though and this is no easier. 111P hurdling; stayed well on Flat but pulled up trying 2m4f at Worcester five weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (33/1 -32%) John W Creasy |
33/1(-32%) | (9) John W Creasy 33/1, Gradual progress over hurdles in Ireland and could do better again now handicapping for new yard. Left Margaret Mullins for £10,000 in May; worth a second look back up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) (14/1 +0%) Prince Imperial |
14/1(+0%) | (8) Prince Imperial 14/1, Back on track over hurdles for new yard when third at Sedgefield over this trip 3 weeks ago. Looked to have no excuses there though and this is tougher. 3rd of 12 at Sedgefield (2m4f, good) latest was narrowly his best form in this sphere. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
An open event in which plenty will fancy their chances, so only a tentative vote can go to AWAYTHELAD. He was beaten only four lengths by the now 133-rated Crambo over C&D last November, but was unable to go on thereafter. Ben Pauling's charge looks extremely well treated on that performance, though, and it would be no surprise to see him take a step forward today. Others to note include Immortal, Ed Keeper and Idem.
Competitive fare with IDEM getting the vote on his handicap debut. He has race-fitness on his side, impressive when scoring over further at Kelso last time, and can progress further. Immortal promises to do better in handicaps this term and is bound to be popular for Nicky Henderson. Estacas and Saladam are also on the shortlist.
This handicap debut down south is a much stiffer test but topweight IDEM is going places judged on the manner of his win at Kelso.

1st (4) (12/1 +25%) Sir Psycho |
12/1(+25%) | (4) Sir Psycho 12/1, Won 3 times as a juvenile hurdler in 2019/20 season and not disgraced final 2 starts in that sphere last season having suffered a nasty experience first time up over fences on his comeback. Starts out for new yard on return. Early faller on last season's chasing debut and didn't really fire over hurdles afterwards. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (6/1 -33%) Passing Well |
6/1(-33%) | (7) Passing Well 6/1, Left Robert Tyner for £185,000 and advanced his form when landing a Uttoxeter maiden and Newcastle novice hurdle over further last season. Not discounted now sent chasing on return. 2-5 over hurdles last term; not at best on latest outing but still a good chasing prospect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (17/2 -6%) Twinjets |
17/2(-6%) | (3) Twinjets 17/2, Dual bumper winner who attained a useful level over hurdles, winning 3 times at up to 21f. Rather too lit up to last home after 6 months off at Chepstow, shaping much better than the bare result. Type to make a better chaser and interesting first time up in this sphere with that under his belt. Tailed off over hurdles on seasonal debut but could still have a good future over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (7/2 +13%) Are U Wise To That |
7/2(+13%) | (6) Are U Wise To That 7/2, Bumper/hurdles winner who maintained his unbeaten record first time out as he made a successful switch to chasing at Warwick (20f) 6 weeks ago, coping with the good pace around a tricky track well and readily coming clear. Sure to progress and win more races. Low-mileage 6yo who kept on strongly for a clearcut success on chasing debut in September. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (13/2 -8%) Scarface |
13/2(-8%) | (5) Scarface 13/2, Returned to win a brace of novice hurdles over further last autumn (second one here). Fair runs in handicaps last 2 starts and bred for the job now sent chasing on reappearance. In good form over hurdles towards end of last season; no surprise if he features. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (50/1 -150%) Timeforatune |
50/1(-150%) | (2) Timeforatune 50/1, Smart bumper performer, and fairly useful hurdles winner at up to 19f last term. Looked rusty sent chasing by new connections after 9 months off (sold from Paul Nicholls £12,000 in interim) at Newton Abbot and could show more here, although it's a tough assignment. 2-5 over hurdles for Paul Nicholls; last month's stable/chase debut was very underwhelming. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (9) (17/2 +23%) Jipcot |
17/2(+23%) | (9) Jipcot 17/2, Showed fairly useful form over hurdles when landing a pair of events at Pau in February, including a listed race (17.4f). Has failed to match that form in Britain, including back over fences on his recent return at Carlisle after a breathing operation. Bit to prove although gets loads of weight. Listed hurdle winner in France; made satisfactory chase/handicap debut last week. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (1) (15/2 -50%) Hermino Aa |
15/2(-50%) | (1) Hermino Aa 15/2, Dual hurdles winner last term, showing some quirks once in front but far too good for his rivals at Warwick (19f) when last seen in March. Looks the type to make a useful chaser and yard have enjoyed success in this over the years. 2-4 as a novice hurdler last season and could easily have more to offer over fences. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
ARE U WISE TO THAT got off the mark at the first time of asking over fences on his latest outing over 2m4f at Warwick in September and he can put that chase experience to good use. Jonjo O'Neill's charge was going away at the line on that occasion and a 7lb rise doesn't appear out of his reach. Hermino Aa was improving nicely when last seen winning over hurdles at Warwick in March and he isn't ruled out of continuing that progression over the larger obstacles, while Jipcot can be seen to better effect.
ARE U WISE TO THAT made an impressive comeback on chase debut at Warwick 6 weeks ago and looks sure to win more races in this sphere. He gets the vote over Cruz Control, Hermino Aa and Twinjets in what should be an informative contest.
This is a step up in grade for ARE U WISE TO THAT but he created a pretty good impression when winning on his chasing debut.

1st (3) (7/2 +0%) Boothill |
7/2(+0%) | (3) Boothill 7/2, Useful hurdles winner who quickly developed into an even better chaser last season, recording third win in this sphere when landing Grade 2 Novice at Kempton (2m) during the Christmas period. Also won a C&D handicap so good run looks on the cards back in a handicap. 2-2 in handicap chases and peak RPRs (in Graded races) suggest this mark is not beyond him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (6/1 +14%) First Flow |
6/1(+14%) | (1) First Flow 6/1, High-class chaser on his day and best effort from 3 starts last season when 4 lengths second of 6 in Grade 2 Chase (10/1) at Sandown (22.8f, good) in April. Has form figures of 23113 when completing over fences at this track so must be respected on return. At his very best three seasons ago; subsequent form suggests he wants further nowadays. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (6/1 -20%) Saint Segal |
6/1(-20%) | (5) Saint Segal 6/1, Has made an encouraging start to his chasing career, winning first 2 starts, and likely to have maintained his unbeaten record in this sphere but for conceding first run to the winner at Doncaster (16.4f, good). Bit too keen at Warwick final start. Keen-goer who is 2-4 over fences; dangerous should he get a strong pace to chase. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (8/1 +33%) Cap Du Mathan |
8/1(+33%) | (7) Cap Du Mathan 8/1, Dual-winning hurdler who opened account over fences in a Taunton handicap in January. Followed up in an Exeter novice a month later but shaped as if amiss at Sandown on final start. Returns on a tough mark but Freddie Gingell takes away 7lb and this 8yo is likeable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (6/1 +20%) Frere D'Armes |
6/1(+20%) | (8) Frere D'Armes 6/1, Surpassed hurdle exploits when making a successful start to chase career at Kempton on return last season and further improvement when defying 8 lb rise at Newbury. Good second back from a break over C&D in April and might have found next run coming too soon. Goes well fresh and remains of interest. Did well last season; only six and likely has plenty more to offer in races of this nature. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (11/1 -47%) Funambule Sivola |
11/1(-47%) | (2) Funambule Sivola 11/1, Runner-up in Champion Chase in 2022 and landed the 4-runner Game Spirit at Newbury (16.4f) for the second year running in February. Poor effort final start but respected back in a handicap on return. Takes a welcome drop in class from quality Graded races and this mark is doable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (5/1 -25%) Red Rookie |
5/1(-25%) | (4) Red Rookie 5/1, Lightly campaigned last term, returning to pick of his form when landing 6-runner Warwick handicap (16.2f, heavy) in March, forging clear. Looked rather flat at Kempton 5 weeks later but off since. Good ground against him latest; on a fair mark but this is tougher than he's accustomed to. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (10/1 +29%) Quel Destin |
10/1(+29%) | (9) Quel Destin 10/1, Smart hurdler who landed a small-field Lingfield beginners' chase in January. Patchy form overall in this sphere but last 2 efforts at Sandown were decent. Has only a Ludlow 2m novice win to show for his eight runs over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (6) (28/1 -56%) The Last Day |
28/1(-56%) | (6) The Last Day 28/1, Sparingly campaigned for a horse of his age and easily best effort from 3 starts last year when third in Red Rum at Aintree (won that race the previous year). Likely to need this. Lot in his favour if ready for business and he has gone well fresh in the past. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Boothill landed a valuable handicap over C&D on just his second start over fences in November last year and followed that up by taking the Wayward Lad at Kempton over Christmas. The eight-year-old returns on a mark that he is likely to be competitive off, but a chance is taken on FRERE D'ARMES. His early-season form last year was especially strong, beating Haddex Des Obeaux at Kempton before winning a Newbury contest that worked out well, and he had excuses when returning after an injury in the spring. Saint Segal, Red Rookie and the veteran First Flow are others likely to enter the reckoning.
FRERE D'ARMES disappointed on his final outing but he did very well over fences last season otherwise and remains on a decent mark for the start of this campaign. Boothill's 3 wins over fences last season includes a C&D handicap so is another to consider along with First Flow, who has a very good record around here.
Class act Funambule Sivola (second choice) is not dismissed lightly but assured jumper BOOTHILL looks a chaser with more to offer.

1st (5) (6/5 +40%) Jango Baie |
6/5(+40%) | (5) Jango Baie 6/5, £170,000 buy, runner-up sole start in Irish points (Feb 12). Appealing type on hurdles debut for top yard. Had a good horse back in third when second in his point; bought for £170,000. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (7/2 +13%) Tellherthename |
7/2(+13%) | (10) Tellherthename 7/2, £200,000 half-brother to useful hurdler Whatsnotoknow (2m winner, by Mahler), stays 3m, and fairly useful hurdler Pull Together (2m winner, by Curtain Time), stayed 21f. Irish point winner and likely type on hurdles debut. Changed hands for £200,000 after impressing in an Irish point; has to be of interest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (12) (10/1 +17%) Mighty Moth |
10/1(+17%) | (12) Mighty Moth 10/1, Fair form in bumpers last season, well backed but no match for good prospect at Cheltenham final start. Good prospect for jumping. Worthy of consideration given the strength of her placed form in bumpers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (18/1 -13%) Il Va De Soi |
18/1(-13%) | (4) Il Va De Soi 18/1, Promise in bumpers after a layoff earlier this year and should make up into a jumper for up-and-coming trainer. Point/bumper promise but he's kicking off over hurdles in what could be a hot contest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (20/1 -67%) Pyrotechnic |
20/1(-67%) | (6) Pyrotechnic 20/1, Fair form in just 2 races on Flat in France, winner of minor event last time (stays 10.5f). Yard target this race and he's one to note. Interesting recruit having won his second Flat start in France without too much trouble. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (11) (9/2 +25%) Ten Lengths Tom |
9/2(+25%) | (11) Ten Lengths Tom 9/2, Appeared to still be learning on the job but showed plenty to be positive about when winning 8-runner bumper at Warwick in March with plenty in hand. Highly respected on hurdles bow. Runner-up in his first bumper then came clear at Warwick; promising. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (16/1 -191%) Soldierofthestorm |
16/1(-191%) | (1) Soldierofthestorm 16/1, Promise in bumpers and by no means all out to make a winning start over hurdles in a thin maiden at Warwick (2m) in May, plenty of room for improvement in his jumping. Suspect he'll need more under a penalty in this deeper contest. Won a soft race at Warwick and now has to concede a penalty to rivals of equal promise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (150/1 -127%) Quian |
150/1(-127%) | (7) Quian 150/1, Smart performer on Flat (stays 2m) at one time but he's lost his way (well beaten on hurdles debut in March). Hard to fancy. Won German Group races in 2020; not the same force now and very opposable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (40/1 -60%) Royal Defender |
40/1(-60%) | (8) Royal Defender 40/1, Point winner and modest form completed start in bumpers at Chepstow last season (well backed in tongue tie, would have finished in frame when brought down second start). Has had a wind op. Tricky to fancy on hurdles debut. Point winner but opposable on what he showed in two Chepstow bumpers last winter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (9) (66/1 -164%) Royal Thunder |
66/1(-164%) | (9) Royal Thunder 66/1, Fair maiden on the Flat who made a pleasing enough start to his hurdling career behind Brook Bay at Uttoxeter last month. Should do better, especially when handicapping. 0-8 on the Flat; something to find with Brook Bay on their Uttoxeter form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (125/1 -279%) Highway One O Four |
125/1(-279%) | (3) Highway One O Four 125/1, Better effort in bumpers 11 months apart at Plumpton on return, forced wide for effort but holding second for most of straight. Starts out over hurdles in a warm event. Well related but very opposable on what he showed in his bumpers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (13) (300/1 -200%) Near Dark |
300/1(-200%) | (13) Near Dark 300/1, Point winner in April 2022. Went with no promise on hurdles debut at Chepstow 3 weeks ago. Pulled up in a maiden hurdle at Chepstow for which she was 125-1. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Soldierofthestorm sets the standard following his decisive victory at Warwick in May, but he may struggle to give 6lb to TELLHERTHENAME. Ben Pauling's gelding won in impressive fashion on his sole start between the flags and he merits the utmost respect having been purchased for 200,000 pounds subsequently. Jango Baie has a similar profile to the selection and may prove to be next best, although Ten Lengths Tom should not be discounted.
A useful-looking novice hurdle and the betting could be interesting, with Nicky Henderson's JANGO BAIE chanced before market clues. Tellherthename, Pyrotechnic, Ten Lengths Tom and Mighty Moth are all interesting also first time up in this sphere. The penalised Soldierofthestorm needs to jump better than he did when winning at Warwick in May but could improve.
There's substance to the form of JANGO BAIE's second in an Irish point and his stable boasts a notable record in this race.

1st (6) (10/1 -33%) Knickerbockerglory |
10/1(-33%) | (6) Knickerbockerglory 10/1, Steadily progressive 7-y-o who scored 4 times over hurdles last year and having made a bright start over fences this winter, he duly ran another fine race back over hurdles when runner-up in last month's Imperial Cup. Did too much too soon final start at Aintree and likely to be fit for return. Front-runner; second in the Imperial Cup at Sandown (2m, heavy; 1lb higher today) in March. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (10/3 +39%) Altobelli |
10/3(+39%) | (4) Altobelli 10/3, Promising sort who won his sole start in bumpers and he supplemented his Ffos Las hurdles win under a penalty at Carlisle in February. Jumping failed the test in Grade 1 company but he remains a good prospect in handicaps this season. Tongue tie on. Ran poorly in Grade 1 novice at Aintree in April latest; now tongue tied; tempting mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (8/1 -7%) Bad |
8/1(-7%) | (9) Bad 8/1, Winner in France. Attracted strong market support in the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival on British debut and he shaped a lot better than thirteenth of 21 might suggest, travelling powerfully but doing too much too soon. Never on terms at Ascot a month later but he retains potential. A strong suspicion remains that he's capable of much more than he's shown in Britain. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (12) (12/1 +0%) Chance A Tune |
12/1(+0%) | (12) Chance A Tune 12/1, Off 27 months before posting an encouraging third of 11 in handicap hurdle at Market Rasen in September. Confirmed that promise when successful at Chepstow and may have more to offer granted a clear shot at racing. Absent 759 days before this term; asserted by 8l in a slog at Chepstow (2m, heavy) latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (16/5 +20%) Our Champ |
16/5(+20%) | (7) Our Champ 16/5, Back from a 6-month break with an improved effort to strike at the first time of asking for the Chris Gordon stable at Plumpton in September and he created a fine impression when turning an 18-runner Cheltenham contest into a one-sided affair last week. Up 11 lb but limit unknown. 2-2 on good going for new yard; up 11lb since Cheltenham last week but he was impressive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (18/1 -50%) Greyval |
18/1(-50%) | (10) Greyval 18/1, Twice a winner over 1½m in France and confirmed the promise of her hurdling debut when landing 9-runner listed event at Doncaster (16.6f, good). Barely came off the bridle when defying a penalty with ease at Huntingdon before finding Grade 1 company too much. Switches to a handicap for return. Needs markedly better in this hot race for handicap hurdle debut but should have potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (16/1 +11%) Thereisnodoubt |
16/1(+11%) | (8) Thereisnodoubt 16/1, Rising 11 but he was better than ever when returning from 5 months off to win at Perth (2m, heavy) in September, showing a willing attitude. Another excellent effort when third at Carlisle and he's likely to give it his all again. 10yo who's done well this term, including a heavy-ground win, but needs more in this race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (13/2 -30%) Rare Middleton |
13/2(-30%) | (11) Rare Middleton 13/2, Showed fairly useful form in a pair of Flat starts in the autumn before making an impressive hurdles debut at Taunton in January. Good third in the Adonis and also shaped much better than end result would suggest on handicap bow in March. Since had a wind op and he's in top hands. No shock were he to prove capable of much better on this seasonal debut for top yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (12/1 -41%) Teddy Blue |
12/1(-41%) | (3) Teddy Blue 12/1, Free-goer who landed a 2m Plumpton handicap hurdle in April and recorded a career best when 1¼ lengths second of 17 in the Swinton a month later. Jumping issues remain a concern, unseating rider at Cheltenham last week. Did well in the spring; unseated early at Cheltenham (8-1 in a big field) eight days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (16/1 +20%) Faivoir |
16/1(+20%) | (2) Faivoir 16/1, Talented hurdler/chaser who was lightly raced last term and capitalised on much-reduced mark when landing the County Hurdle at the Festival back in March. Possibly he needed the run in the Welsh Champion Hurdle on return and should run closer to form here. County win at Cheltenham (2m1f, soft) by a head; could be more potent than on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (33/1 -18%) Camprond |
33/1(-18%) | (1) Camprond 33/1, Smart effort to win a big-field handicap at the Punchestown Festival last spring. Very much back to form when close third of 26 in Coral Cup at Cheltenham (21f) and that effort may have left its marked judged on a lesser effort at Aintree. Drops in class for reappearance. Third in the Coral Cup (2m5f, soft) is the only time he really fired last season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (66/1 -100%) Carbon King |
66/1(-100%) | (5) Carbon King 66/1, Progressive in handicap hurdles for Declan Queally, posting a borderline useful performance when bagging third success at Navan (2m) in March. Below best from much-inflated mark at Ballinrobe final start for that yard and almost certainly needed the run on last month's reappearance. Second run for this yard; with his Irish wins all on soft or heavy, he's not dismissed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
OUR CHAMP made quite the impression when bounding clear of his rivals at Cheltenham recently, and an 11lb rise for that success may not be enough to halt his rapid progression, with Freddie Gordon taking off a valuable 5lb. Teddy Blue unseated the rider early in that contest, but better can be expected here from the Betfair Hurdle third, while the unexposed Altobelli is another with plenty of potential dropping in class. County Hurdle winner Faivoir is entitled to build his recent return at Ffos Las and can have a say, along with stablemate Knickerbockerglory and Chance A Tune.
RARE MIDDLETON failed to go on as was perhaps hoped last season but he's had a wind operation since last seen and, given the yard he represents, fitness is no concern on reappearance. Our Champ will doubtless be popular on the back of last week's Cheltenham romp, with Altobelli completing the shortlist.
Our Champ has to be the starting point after Cheltenham but KNICKERBOCKERGLORY was second in the Imperial Cup on heavy ground.

Larry |
(7) (12/1 -20%)12/1(-20%) | (7) Larry 12/1, Decent strike rate over the years and jumped much better than usual when winning over C&D on last season's return. Decent placed efforts last 2 starts and not taken lightly on return. Won this race two years ago and over C&D last November, both off 3lb lower than today. |

1st (6) (20/1 -43%) Victtorino |
20/1(-43%) | (6) Victtorino 20/1, Useful chaser in France, scoring twice at up to 21.9f last year. Made a low-key start for this yard over hurdles in March when last seen and back over fences now. Dual chase winner in the mud in France; well held hurdling for British debut this March. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (10/1 +17%) Two For Gold |
10/1(+17%) | (2) Two For Gold 10/1, Gallant second in Gr 1 Ascot Chase in 2022 and easily best effort from 3 starts last season when winning veterans event over C&D. Good record fresh so respected on return. C&D winner; back up 4lb but goes well in the mud and looks an each-way player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (11/2 +8%) Eldorado Allen |
11/2(+8%) | (1) Eldorado Allen 11/2, Very smart sort who has had his limitations exposed at the top level but merits respect back in a handicap on return. Has a good record first time out; well treated judged on peak efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (11) (20/1 -11%) Zhiguli |
20/1(-11%) | (11) Zhiguli 20/1, Resuming winning ways at Sandown in March, jumping well out in front. Excuses last 2 starts but more needed on return. Seems best on soft/heavy ground but Larry may carry greater hopes for the yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (9/2 -29%) Beauport |
9/2(-29%) | (4) Beauport 9/2, Progressive hurdler who made fine start over fences when landing listed chase at Carlisle on last season's return. Failed to build on that but shaped better than distance beaten suggests in Kim Muir at Cheltenham and yet to be asked for everything when falling at fifteenth at Aintree final start. Didn't progress as expected last term, including with his jumping; there's still time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (12) (5/1 +58%) Yeah Man |
5/1(+58%) | (12) Yeah Man 5/1, Winner in hurdle at Thurles in February and wasted no time getting back on track when excellent second of 12 in handicap chase (4/1) at Down Royal (26.2f, good to soft) when last seen in May. Up against it from 4 lb out of the handicap, however. 4lb out of handicap; 6yo to note for Irish yard which did so well at Cheltenham last week. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (10) (22/1 +12%) Unanswered Prayers |
22/1(+12%) | (10) Unanswered Prayers 22/1, Had point experience and put that to good use on first start over fences at Cheltenham a year ago. Disappointed since, however, including on return. Remote when favourite on reappearance four weeks ago; others look far more solid. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (9) (5/1 +17%) Mucho Mas |
5/1(+17%) | (9) Mucho Mas 5/1, Progressive as a novice chaser who bids for a hat-trick after wins around 3m at Lingfield in December and Sandown in March. More to offer and should be capable of scoring off this mark before long, perhaps today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (5) (33/1 -50%) Flegmatik |
33/1(-50%) | (5) Flegmatik 33/1, Mixed record last season, best effort when close second of 13 in handicap chase (10/1) at Kempton (24f, good to soft) in February. 3-16 over fences, best form at Kempton; has a bit more to prove on worse than good to soft. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (8) (40/1 +0%) Coeur Serein |
40/1(+0%) | (8) Coeur Serein 40/1, Back to winning ways in a small field at Newbury in February but is becoming increasingly unreliable and poor efforts next 3 of 4 starts. Sole win from 11 chases came in a three-runner contest this February. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (11/2 -22%) Monbeg Genius |
11/2(-22%) | (3) Monbeg Genius 11/2, Highly progressive novice chaser who readily completed his hat-trick at Chepstow in February. Ran a cracker when clear third of 23 to Corach Rambler in Ultima at Cheltenham (25f, good to soft) last time. Likely has more to offer and rates a major player. Highly progressive; 7lb rise after Cheltenham Festival 3rd could still underestimate him. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
A good race featuring a cast of progressive young staying chasers, headed by Monbeg Genius. Given that Jonjo O'Neill's gelding needed last year's reappearance, he may be worth passing over on this occasion in favour of the more experienced TWO FOR GOLD, a mud-lover who has been readied to win fresh before and whose Ascot (chasing) form figures read '221'. Mucho Mas is another improving sort who should make his presence felt if fully tuned up, while Irish raider Yeah Man could throw up some each-way value.
MONBEG GENIUS had his winning run ended when third in the Ultima at Cheltenham but he couldn't have shaped much better and he remains one to keep on side for the coming season. Beauport's first season over fences didn't go as well as might have been expected but he's likely to be ready here, while Two For Gold must be respected given his record here.
The three to concentrate on may well be MONBEG GENIUS (nap), Yeah Man and Mucho Mas, who are preferred in that order.

1st (2) (4/1 +47%) Celtic Dino |
4/1(+47%) | (2) Celtic Dino 4/1, Doctor Dino gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler/useful chaser Saint Segal and Celtic Girl. Dam (c109/h118) winning hurdler/chaser in France. Makes plenty of appeal on paper. Has a useful pedigree and makes his debut with his yard going well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (7/1 +13%) Monty Bodkin |
7/1(+13%) | (7) Monty Bodkin 7/1, €105,000 3-y-o, Walk In The Park gelding. Brother to fairly useful hurdler El Muchacho, stays 21f, and fair 17f hurdle winner Spirit of Regulus. One to note if the market speaks in his favour. 105,000euros 3yo; classy pedigree; stable 10% in bumpers in last five seasons. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (12/1 -20%) Electric Mason |
12/1(-20%) | (5) Electric Mason 12/1, £110,000 4-y-o, Sandmason gelding. Dam little impact in bumpers. Runner-up sole start in Irish points (Feb 26). Interesting Rules newcomer. Promising second in point in February, subsequently joining Chris Gordon for £110,000. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (11) (25/1 +24%) U Cant Be Serious |
25/1(+24%) | (11) U Cant Be Serious 25/1, Doesn't have an appealing pedigree and debut at Chepstow 6 months ago lacked promise. Others make more appeal. Sixth of nine on debut at Chepstow in the spring; improvement possible but necessary. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (4/1 -78%) Oak Grove |
4/1(-78%) | (9) Oak Grove 4/1, €75,000 3-y-o, £250,000 4-y-o, Soldier of Fortune gelding. Dam (h105), 2½m hurdle winner, sister to very smart hurdler (stayed 3m) Voler La Vedette. Off mark in Irish points at second attempt (Apr 9). Stable has a good record in this sphere with similar types, so he boasts strong claims. Won a point in April and his new yard excels in bumpers; leading contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (8/1 -33%) All Authorized |
8/1(-33%) | (1) All Authorized 8/1, Brother to useful 2m hurdle winner I Am Maximus and half-brother to 4 winners on Flat. Made the ideal start when scoring 7 months ago and, while this is a stronger contest, he's worthy of respect. Looked good prospect when winning on debut at Fontwell; should make bold bid under penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (13/2 -63%) Dino Magic |
13/2(-63%) | (4) Dino Magic 13/2, €125,000 3-y-o, Doctor Dino gelding. Closely related to a winner on Flat and half-brother to fairly useful hurdler/chaser Los Banderos. Dam 9f winner. Very much one to consider. 125,000euros 3yo; top stable won this race last year with another newcomer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (8/1 -14%) Chauffeur Driven |
8/1(-14%) | (3) Chauffeur Driven 8/1, €62,000 3-y-o, £65,000 4-y-o, Soldier of Fortune gelding. Half-brother to useful hurdler Wouldn't You Agree. Successful sole outing in Irish points (May 7). One to consider. Won maiden point in Ireland in May; new stable has impressive 21% strike-rate in bumpers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (16/1 +36%) Spice Boy |
16/1(+36%) | (10) Spice Boy 16/1, Stepped up on mildly encouraging debut when fourth at Worcester last time but will probably need considerably more if he's to land a potentially hot contest. Improved on debut form when fourth at Worcester and there could be better still to come. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (9/1 +10%) Guivinec |
9/1(+10%) | (6) Guivinec 9/1, €40,000 3-y-o, £55,000 4-y-o, Joshua Tree gelding. Half-brother to French hurdler/chaser Avocette. Dam made frame once over hurdles in France. Successful on second of 2 starts in Irish points (Apr 23). Wears tongue strap. Won second of two 2m4f points by a wide margin; has joined yard with fine bumper record. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) (80/1 -21%) Nineelmspark |
80/1(-21%) | (8) Nineelmspark 80/1, Big price and didn't offer a great deal when sixth at Warwick on debut. Up against it. 100-1, only sixth of nine on debut at Warwick four weeks ago; plenty of improvement needed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Runner-up in a Tinahely point-to-point where he had the reopposing Oak Grove (fourth) behind, ELECTRIC MASON was subsequently purchased for 110,000 pounds and he gets the vote for a stable that has a decent record with debutants. The well-bred Dino Magic must also enter calculations on his racecourse bow, along with Celtic Dino and the impressive Fontwell scorer All Authorized. Any market support for Chauffeur Driven or Guivinec would have to be noted.
OAK GROVE has joined a shrewd outfit for a hefty sum on the back of a comfortable success in points, so he's worth a chance to follow up on Rules debut for all that he finds himself in a potentially strong race. Dino Magic needs considering given connections and Electric Mason is another notable recruit from between the flags.
The vote goes to CELTIC DINO who lacks experience but has a classy pedigree and represents a yard with an impressive record in bumpers.
Ths is the racecard key.
