EBONY MAW showed up well for a long way on his seasonal return at Newcastle recently. He's been more effective on the grass previously, however, and given that he's now 1lb lower than when on target at Ayr in October, he might provide some value. 1m6f looked on the sharp side for Reel Her In latest so returning to further should suit. Corsican Caper continues to run well in defeat and is unlikely to be far away.

Kevin Frost's CORSICAN CAPER was fourth of 18 and a close one at that the last time he raced on rain-softened turf.

Hughie Morrison has a couple of solid contenders in Curtiz and Beggarman, with the former suggested as the pick of the pair based on his overall profile and currently viable rating. However, it could be worth taking a chance on AL KHAWANEEJ RIVER, who doesn't have many miles on the clock and can take advantage of slightly weaker opposition than he has been accustomed to facing. Marioento is another interesting option.

Marioento makes plenty of appeal but RUN OF LUCK is quite progressive on turf and shapes as though he'll stay this far.

In-form contenders Royal Accord and Woodhay Whisper are honours even from two previous encounters and can have a big say in a race such as this. As they are hard to split on form, perhaps the betting market can guide where these two are concerned. Nevertheless, preference is for KISSKODI, who was well clear of the rest when touched off by a 64-rated opponent at Haydock last week. Another step forward could suffice this time.

The ground is a slight niggle at the likely cramped odds but KISSKODI looks well ahead of his mark and can make it seventh time lucky.

Sands Of Spain made little impact on his debut at Goodwood recently but Andrew Balding's string often improve for their initial experience, and this Sands Of Mali colt may well follow suit. However, preference is for BRAVO HOTEL. Mick and David Easterby's charge finished third, ahead of Under The Radar (fifth), at York latest and that is the form to concentrate on.

Bravo Hotel sets the standard on his run at York but SANDS OF SPAIN could very easily leave his debut effort at Goodwood behind.

This could be a good opportunity for POMME POMME to maintain her unbeaten handicap record after posting successes at Bath and Wolverhampton over the last fortnight. Jack Channon's filly was a ready winner at Dunstall Park most recently and a 6lb penalty looks very manageable in this company. Buck Barrow, who got closest to her at Bath, and recent Brighton scorer Sol Argent can give her the most to think about.

Easing ground raises questions for several, including POMME POMME, but there are positives in her pedigree for handling good to soft.

Corniche Girl and Mare Of London set the standard on the limited evidence available and are notable contenders to monitor in the betting market. However, there are some interesting newcomers to also seriously consider, with CAMPENAERTS, a half-brother to a 7f winner as a juvenile, looking worth a chance on his debut for a yard that is capable of having one ready to strike first time up. Dandy Orton and Eduardo Calderon are others to keep an eye on.

Corniche Girl should appreciate 6f but MARE OF LONDON is preferred on the back of her much-improved effort at Kempton last week.

The form of SEA OF KINGS' debut second at Nottingham was franked by the winner going in again subsequently and the son of Sea The Stars is hard to oppose. Having cost 250,000 euros as a foal, it will no doubt be disappointing for connections if the Wathnan Racing-owned colt can't deliver at the second time of asking. Derby entry Rogue Millions, Noble Horizon and Berezka are all strong contenders for the runner-up slot.

Sea Of Kings and Rogue Millions are strong form contenders but NOBLE HORIZON looks sure to appreciate this stiffer test.

Dropping back in trip looks like a good move for Sharon Curly, having shown plenty of pace over further at Redcar last time out, while Sanbona is noted too.

Due to go up 3lb from tomorrow, PROMISE TIME will be the one to beat if he settles better. Mile By Mile is another to consider.

Stepping up in trip looks like a good move for Miss Dandylion, who cannot be ruled out either.

After his sudden return to form at Beverley on Wednesday, LASER FOCUS is taken to double up under his 4lb penalty here.

Behind him on that occasion was Paragon, who is 6lb better off for finishing just over three lengths behind in third and is entitled to at least close the gap. Completing the shortlist are Dandy Khan, Dovey Moon and Invincible Storm.

The pick is DANDY KHAN, who did not really enjoy the run of the race before keeping on well for a big-odds second last month.

Runner-up to an in-form subsequent winner at Windsor last time out, SHADY BAY remains completely unexposed on turf and this appeals as an ideal opportunity to strike with Charles Bishop taking over in the saddle. Placed on each of his last two outings, Fihrayn is of interest on his first start for new connections, as well as Annexation on his return to the level. Dashinwhitesargent and Lexington Knight may also have a say in proceedings.

It's not easy to rule many of these out and a chance is taken that ENTHUSED is on the way back. He's well handicapped if so.

Jim Goldie's NATIVE HONEY has made a bright start for the yard and the predicted softer ground won't faze him.

El Matador is worthy of serious consideration, having overcome signs of inexperience to score at Salisbury on his reappearance. However, SEA POETRY may edge this contest, given last year's debut winner at Newmarket was conceding weight to her conqueror when beaten less than a length at Kempton. Owen Burrows' daughter of Wootton Bassett gets another chance on more favourable terms. Lord Montague will appreciate this extra test of stamina and is preferred of the rest.

Sea Poetry and EL MATADOR set a useful standard and the selection can step forward again now back on slower ground.

HAVANA MOJITO has recorded all of his three wins so far at this venue. A winner over course and distance in April, he had little trouble defying an 8lb rise when successful back here last week, and the son of Havana Grey looks worth sticking with. A recent third at the track, Poetic Force has eased to a workable mark and can feature again, while Disclosure is another to note.

Cases can be made for most of these but BUY THE DIP shaped well on his recent return and this C&D winner can build on it.

Saisons D'Or and Golden Goose command respect as last-time-out winners. However, it's been a good while since the former won back-to-back races, while the latter has more on his plate. Of more interest is BRAES OF DOUNE, who scores highly for reliability and has nothing to fear reverting to seven furlongs. Highfield Viking is also effective over the trip and is another key player.

It was a more encouraging run from NAVAL ACADEMY (nap) at Leicester and he should be winning races off his current mark.

The vote goes to MINI MAI, who has shown ability on each of her three starts in maiden company. Ger Lyons' filly enters handicaps from a potentially workable mark and it wouldn't come as any great surprise were she to step forward. That being said, Tomarlo looks a real threat from 3lb lower than when finishing a creditable fifth at Naas recently. Tino Pai is of interest back on turf, as is previous C&D winner Billie Be Quick.

C&D winner BILLIE BE QUICK is preferred. She's 1lb lower, she has a lovely draw and the return to this venue is a big positive

SIGHTS UNSEEN arrives in winning form after a handicap hurdle success over a staying trip at Downpatrick last week. She is due to encounter another undulating track on her chase debut and looks a big player. Jersey Des Brosses has been out of form over hurdles, but his length second in a point-to-point more than two years ago reads very well given the winner's subsequent exploits over fences. Aclass had subsequent winners behind him when fourth in a handicap chase at Wexford in April, so can have a say. Mullanour showed an aptitude for this venue when running well for a long way before finishing second over flights last month, while Stumblin In is a course winner over hurdles.

PORT HEDLAND opened his account on only his fourth outing for Tony Carroll's yard, when successful here last time. He rallied well in the closing stages on that occasion, so this slightly longer distance will likely play to his strengths and a 2lb rise is far from insurmountable. Roman Emperor posted a better effort at the track recently and he could have a say in proceedings, while Zaman Daar ran well here back in April and has a shout on that form.

Few of these ran with any encouragement on their latest starts and PORT HEDLAND (nap) almost picks himself after his recent course win.

The Paddy Twomey stable could not be in any better form at present, and this represents an ideal opportunity for NAOI to get off the mark from a plum draw in stall two. The daughter of Siyouni has shown plenty of ability on both career outings and, with that experience under her belt, she is narrowly preferred to Angelight, who showed major improvement from first to second start when fourth over 1m at Naas recently. Well-backed on debut at Navan over 5f, Lil' Angel showed promise without threatening on that occasion and stepping up in trip could bring about progression.

Joseph O'Brien's ANGELIGHT edges preference after running on so well to finish a close fourth at Naas.

Brodie Hampson partnered Throne Hall to win at Musselburgh and in Jersey last month, but the booking of Simon Walker for RIBBLE RIVER catches the eye and Kevin Ryan's gelding can confirm the promise of his comeback third at Pontefract. Unplugged landed this prize a couple of years ago under Serena Brotherton and his Nottingham reappearance wasn't bad.

HOMESTRAIT has run well in defeat in both outings so far. The daughter of Coulsty found only one too good at Beverley on both occasions and should find the 5f trip here less demanding. Star Marian faced a tougher assignment at Chester on debut and didn't fare too badly considering she was drawn high and lost a shoe. She can make her presence felt at this level, with Dandy's Rocket best of the rest.

Homestrait sets the standard but is taken on with THE LITTLE BEAR, who shaped with promise on her AW debut recently.

A drop back in distance proved no issue for BARTON SNOW when running out a ready winner over an extended 2m at Cheltenham and a hat-trick under Rules could be on the cards. The eight-year-old was a cosy scorer over 2m5f here in March and he's fancied to repel chief rivals Glancing Hill and Whats The Solution. The pair have both been in fine fettle between the flags and neither is taken lightly.

All six runners arrive in good form but BARTON SNOW ran to a pretty useful level when winning here and at Cheltenham this year.

CONVINCING was no match for the first two when third in a maiden at Killarney, but the runner-up has subsequently boosted the form. The son of Make Believe is potentially well treated for this handicap bow, with first-time cheekpieces also likely to help bring about further improvement. Colugo is another handicap debutant with plenty of scope and she could feature, while a good effort from Roscommon runner-up Dynamic Force looks assured.

CORNAHILT SOLDIER won at this meeting last year, she has had a prep run at the Curragh and she gets the nod off a 1lb lower mark.

Earnest Belief is a full-brother to Doncaster Cup/Lonsdale Cup hero and Gold Cup runner-up Coltrane and he shaped like a stayer when fourth on his introduction at Salisbury. He is expected to come on from the run, but the winner of that race then flopped in a Newmarket event in which POLE STAR went agonisingly close. Charlie Johnston's colt was confirming the promise of his debut fourth at Chester and can make it third-time lucky. Better is anticipated from the once-raced pair Valiancy and Warrior King.

This looks to be where POLE STAR gets off the mark, following two 1m4f runs this month which make him the clear form pick.

CLARENS won a rated novice chase over C&D on his penultimate start and there was merit in his third in a handicap chase when next seen in Tipperary as he was badly hampered four out. Be Fierce looks the danger as he has a good record at this track. He delivered in a rated novice chase here on New Year's Day and ought to be heavily involved if fully wound up after almost five months off. Prince Of Air is somewhat of a Tramore specialist and obliged in a handicap chase over C&D last month to further enhance his record. Champion conditional Tiernan Power Roche has been booked and his 5lb claim has the eight-year-old on an appealing mark.

Wee Mary made a bold bid from the front at Redcar, only to be run down in the closing stages by CHEERLEADER. The latter carries a penalty for that success, but that was her first outing of the year and debut for Tina Jackson's yard, and the Dandy Man filly is taken to confirm superiority with the prospect of more to come. Secret Dreamer has shown plenty of early dash, so this shorter trip should suit.

Wee Mary has every chance of reversing form with the penalised Cheerleader, but this can go to the well-related SECRET DREAMER.

Although FAMOUS CLERMONT could only muster a 19th-placed finish in the Foxhunters' at Aintree, a subsequent double between the flags shows that he's in good heart. The 10-year-old appears to have been found a suitable opportunity to regain the winning thread under Rules for the first time since landing this race 12 months ago, with the application of cheekpieces a positive move. The biggest threat is likely to emerge from Fairly Famous, who arrives on the back of a respectable third at Cheltenham. Somptueux is next best.

The vote goes to last year's runner-up IMPERIAL ESPRIT, who again ran well here last month.

The application of blinkers seems to have made a difference and a 3lb drop following his fourth at Bellewstown gives him every chance to get off the mark. Weegeebear brings a solid level of form to proceedings and has to enter calculations, along with Sovereign Banter and Undefeatable.

Charlie Appleby has used this as a springboard to Group/Grade 1 glory with Ancient Wisdom and Albahr in recent seasons, so big things are expected from COMMANDING OFFICER. The 150,000-euro son of Teofilo has a good German pedigree that suggests 7f is the right trip to start him over. Morris Dancer also carries the Godolphin colours and his Newbury seventh wasn't devoid of promise. Kevin Ryan had to go to 400,000gns for Greybeard as a yearling, while royal runner Brotherhood Of Man is another interesting newcomer.

Charlie Appleby won this in 2021 and 2023 and, with his 2yos in excellent form, the newcomer COMMANDING OFFICER earns the vote.

DERRYVILLE might be the answer to a weak race. Sam Curling's mare is nothing if not consistent in being placed in five of her six bumpers including when a notable second at Punchestown behind a subsequent double Grade 1 winner. Gordon Elliott's Two Become One showed promise when second on debut at Kilbeggan over a year ago and probably needed the run when unplaced at Sligo this month. Willie Mullins runs three horses and while Sugar Cookie looks the pick on jockey bookings, she was pulled up when last seen in Killarney. Walk In The Park mare Sip Sip Hooray went off favourite for a Kilbeggan bumper last month, but weakened out of contention. There is surely more to come from her.

AGATHON came out second best in a fight to the line over 1m4f at Pontefract a week ago. Rebecca Menzies' inmate had won over today's longer distance at Carlisle before that and has more scope for improvement than Star Legend. The latter is seeking his first win on the turf after landing an apprentices' race over 2m at Chelmsford last week, while Stellarmasterpiece arrives in fine form and is also of interest.

Star Legend will be 5lb higher from tomorrow, but the rain won't have hurt STELLARMASTERPIECE (nap) and she's preferred.

Goodie Two Shoes was a class apart from her Gowran rivals and won't lack for stamina. Dallas Star proved he stays at least 1m6f when chasing home Kyprios in the Saval Beg, but POETIC SOUND also ran well behind the now-retired champion stayer in the Vintage Crop Stakes and has that little bit more scope for improvement. La Isla Mujeres has a touch of class about her, as evidenced by her defeat of Cristal Clere in the Lenebane Stakes, but this trip and an absence are concerns.

A few have chances. POETIC SOUND (nap) was flattered to finish so close to Kyprios in the Vintage Crop but this 4yo is improving.

The complexion of this race would change if Mags Nelson runs. He was first reserve for a handicap hurdle at Limerick on Thursday evening. The six-year-old gelding ran on to be an eye-catching fifth over a shorter trip in a higher grade at Cork just under three weeks ago. BITE THAT is better over fences, but could exploit his lower hurdle mark. After a long stint over fences, there was merit in his fifth when he had a spin over flights at Clonmel just over a fortnight ago. Beechroad Winnie handles this track well and is in a consistent vein of form, so should be thereabouts. Halla Paroiste is far from out of it up in trip in first-time cheekpieces.

She's been absent for a while but BEECHROAD WINNIE goes well at this track and wasn't beaten far here after a similar break last June.

BOWENSONFIRE looks a likely sort for Gordon Elliott. After a couple of placed efforts at Naas and Punchestown, he got off the mark at Limerick. Although it was disappointing on paper that he was beaten when odds-on favourite at Ayr in February, the winner followed up in Southwell and was fourth in a very valuable handicap hurdle at Sandown. Mercury Mission took the honours at Wexford and Limerick which earned him a shot at the Punchestown festival where he finished sixth in a big field. He's a significant danger. Star Official was an easy winner by 10 lengths over a similar trip at this track last month. He's markedly up in class, but has to be respected.

Stevie Donohoe partners the son of Blue Point for the first time and connections will hope there is more in the tank on this second run following a gelding operation. Farandaway is officially rated 2lb higher and must be respected having hit the woodwork over C&D recently, while market confidence behind Pianoforte, who hasn't been seen since finishing third at Kempton last April, would be of note.

The market is likely to tell a tale in a maiden in which WICKET KEEPER is taken to build on last autumn's promising debut.

With Oisin Murphy back in the saddle, another bold showing is highly likely. Kurakka and Is I Right also enter the reckoning on the back of winning performances and need to be taken seriously. However, the class-dropping/handicap debutant Harpsichord could be a bigger danger to the selection, especially with her stamina more proven than most here.

He's a full-brother to a 122-rated hurdler for Gordon Elliott. Faithful Follower reverts back to a bumper after finishing fourth over further in a maiden hurdle at Sligo. He has already posted a runner-up finish in this sphere at Down Royal last year, so certainly enters the reckoning. If Lord Ffrench could get back to the form of his third place in a Cork bumper last summer, he would be a danger to all.
