A respectable seventh behind Caldwell Potter when hampered three out at the Cheltenham Festival, THE OTHER MOZZIE should appreciate going back in trip, having scored impressively at Naas on his penultimate outing. The six-year-old remains unexposed in this sphere and he is preferred to the consistent Homme Public, who has been runner-up on his last two starts. Making his handicap debut, Western Diego is another to note for the title-chasing Willie Mullins.

The Willie Mullins-trained WESTERN DIEGO was a promising second last time and earns the vote ahead of The Other Mozzie.

Slight preference is for Joseph O'Brien's filly GREEN SENSE, with the stable having landed this contest last year. A daughter of freshman sire Starman, she shouldn't lack for pace on debut and that may be enough to see off Extravagant, who is a half-brother to Arc de Triomphe second Cloth Of Stars. Frescobaldi could be a sharper type from the Aidan O'Brien yard, being by No Nay Never, and he must also enter calculations.

The market should be the best guide, a token selection being GREEN SENSE, whose yard won this last year

Sunway made good progress in high-profile races during 2024, registering his biggest achievement by finishing a close second in the Irish Derby last June. David Menusier's experienced stable-star boasts tempting credentials from subsequent Group 1 exploits but there is a slight query about him first time up as a four-year-old. With that in mind, a chance is taken on BELLUM JUSTUM, who won the Lingfield Derby trial on his reappearance last year. Last seen winning the Nashville Derby at Kentucky, there is a lot to like about the Sea The Stars colt. Ancient Wisdom and Tabletalk are other strong contenders.

Sunway has the best form but BELLUM JUSTUM had a notably progressive look last term. Ancient Wisdom is the other principal.

Gordon Elliott's CHORTAL posted his best result to date when a keeping-on third at Downpatrick at the end of last month, which gives him leading claims in a race where meaningful form is thin on the ground. Shaboozee was beaten a fair way into fourth at Limerick, but the suspicion is that there is more to come from him. Elliott's second string Old Bridge is far from out of it, and similar comments apply to Eastern Blue Bird.

Unless any of his rivals finds a chunk of improvement, CHORTAL should be winning this with a bit to spare.

SIGN AGAIN showed progressive form over hurdles at the end of last year culminating with a convincing success over 2m4f at Sedgefield. Charlie Longsdon's charge is open to further improvement and can defy a double penalty. Malicash is another on the upgrade, having won both starts since undergoing a wind operation. He can feature once again, while the maiden hurdle winner Ki Woo is preferred of the rest.

Charlie Longsdon's SIGN AGAIN looks useful and is taken to extend his unbeaten record over hurdles.

Not beaten far in his attempt to land the hat-trick at Uttoxeter last month, EYED continues to progress and this represents an ideal opportunity off 5lb higher to get back to winning ways. His chief threat looks to be Masaccio, who has been placed the last twice in strong handicaps at Cheltenham and has the potential to improve for another go at 3m. C&D winner Whistle Stop Tour has always been highly rated by connections and cannot be ruled out either.

Having had an obvious excuse at the Cheltenham Festival, the unexposed stayer WHISTLE STOP TOUR can show what is capable of today.

Having scoped dirty after finishing last in the Listed Bosra Sham at Newmarket in November last season, it could be worth chancing COLD HEARTED in these calmer waters. The daughter of Blue Point had previously finished a close-up second at Naas and a reproduction of that performance may prove sufficient. Spodo Komodo offered plenty to work with on his opening fourth at Dundalk 22 days ago and improvement is forecast, especially dropping in trip, while No Return and newcomer No Alibi are also noted.

The 80-rated Cold Hearted sets a solid standard but a chance is taken on Paddy Twomey's NO ALIBI to be a class above on debut

Mountain Breeze made the most of a couple of decent opportunities at the Dubai Carnival and commands obvious respect coming into this on the back of winning the UAE 1000 Guineas. However, this is an intriguing renewal and there several other strong contenders to consider. Last year's Princess Margaret winner SIMMERING being one in particular that has progressed nicely since her Ascot success. A subsequent Group 2 winner in France, this looks a good starting point for Ollie Sangster's progressive filly. Ballydole's Heavens Gate is another striking option, while Bright Times Ahead is another open to any amount of improvement.

The vote goes to interesting once-raced novice winner BRIGHT TIMES AHEAD, who has major potential. Mountain Breeze is second pick.

KAPTAIN BAY has placed form on better ground and could bounce back from being pulled up at Fairyhouse in February. His runner-up berth at Ballinrobe last autumn reads well in the context of this race. Scriabin gets a first-time hood and was pipped on the line in a Thurles maiden hurdle in November so has to be respected. Oh So Charming is another who was pulled up when last seen, at Wexford in October. He just gets into this race with a mark of 110 and has enough form in the book to be a leading contender. Mic Drop is a bumper winner who could acquit himself well.

Higgs has eased in the weights and bounced back to form with a respectable second at Ffos Las last week, while Sweet Street is potentially well treated in this lower grade.

An eye-catcher when keeping on for fourth in the County Hurdle, ETHICAL DIAMOND should be primed for this assignment off 1lb higher. He still looks well treated compared to some on his Flat form. Saved for this since a strong runner-up effort in a valuable handicap at Windsor in January, Kabral Du Mathan must be thereabouts for in-form connections, as well as Bunting and Valgrand, who are better than what they have produced recently.

Bunting is a tempting option but preference is for the progressive WELSH CHARGER, who certainly knows how to get the job done.

RASHABAR might have been a surprise winner of the Coventry at Royal Ascot last June but it is hard to crab his subsequent performances that saw him fill the runner-up spot in a couple of Group 1 races in France. The son of Holy Roman Emperor progressed at a rate of knots and, still a lively outsider for the 2000 Guineas, he could get his season off to a flyer here. Chancellor readily landed a novice stakes at Doncaster when last seen and looks ready for the step up in class. Al Qudra, Jonquil and Rogue Allegiance are others to keep an eye on.

Promising ROGUE ALLEGIANCE is narrowly preferred, ahead of Chancellor. A few others also command plenty of respect.

FIRST DARE has run well fresh before and is nicely weighted with Ross Berry claiming 7lb. She has won three times over flights and was far from outclassed in sixth in a valuable handicap hurdle at Naas in November. Gavin Cromwell's Half Past Tipsy is match-fit from a runner-up berth at Wexford on St Patrick's Day. She went off favourite for that contest and it was a marked improvement on previous runs. Her stable won this race last year. Fratas has been given a chance by the handicapper, while Mater Matuta is a C&D winner.

The most appealing is FIRST DARE, who was runner-up in this race last year. She goes well fresh and handles lively ground too.

DON RAFAEL has faced tougher assignments than this since scoring at Hereford in November. Outpaced turning for home over 2m at Warwick last time, Martin Keighley's charge will relish the return to this longer trip. Lune De La Mer showed signs of a resurgence when sent off favourite at Haydock and drops in class with solid claims, while Tchoupinminzac should be noted with improvement likely on his handicap debut.

It might be worth chancing GREY SKIES, who was out of form over fences when last seen but has slipped to a tempting hurdle mark.

This is less competitive and the unexposed son of Invincible Spirit looks to have plenty more to offer off his current mark. A 6f winner at Kempton, Gutsy Girl made a promising debut for Joseph O'Brien's yard when fourth in a Listed sprint at Cork. She makes more appeal than last week's Bellewstown winner Emerald Harmony, who is upped in class.

A step up in distance enabled a career-best triumph from LAVIDA ADIVA when scoring by nine lengths in a Listed event at Kelso three weeks ago. A 6lb rise on this switch to handicap company is workable for Ruth Jefferson's mare and a brace could be on the cards. Fellow last-time-out winner Ruby Island is a potential improver now faced with a greater test of stamina and she's feared most, ahead of The Lord Maid.

Fox's Fancy retains potential but recent Listed winner LAVIDA ADIVA could be well treated back in a handicap.

JAMES MCHENRY goes well fresh having won at Carlisle on last year's seasonal bow. He showed further progress during the year, culminating with a fine second in the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket in September, and William Buick's presence is another positive. Silver Sword arrives on the back of a victory on the turf in Dubai last month. He could land a blow raised only 4lb and is preferred to last year's winner Metal Merchant, who is 6lb higher on this occasion. Pearl Eye and Two Tempting could both go well at bigger prices.

There appears to be a race of this stature in JAMES MCHENRY (nap), who is first choice ahead of Silver Sword.

IMADPOUR ran on well to get within a neck of the winner at Wexford last month and the horse who beat him followed up by six lengths at Limerick on Thursday to really boost the form. Cleopatra's Needle is a major threat on the back of a solid second at Fairyhouse last week and drying ground will suit her well. Howdoyalikeherhome was only 3/1 for his return to hurdles at Clonmel and didn't run badly in fifth, which bodes well for the future. Market support for Next Stop Paris would be significant.

Going in the right direction, IMADPOUR was just denied at Wexford last time but this slight rise in trip can suit and he can score.

FANDABIDOZI is fit from the Flat and reverts to hurdles with a big chance of adding to his tally off just 2lb higher than when he was successful at Stratford last May. King Ulanda, who won a conditional riders' event under this jockey on his penultimate start, is also going the right way and rates a key player following another respectable effort at Warwick. Winchmore Hill and Little Dipper complete the shortlist.

There could still be a fair bit more to come from KING ULANDA, who won readily on his handicap debut at Musselburgh in February.

One Look, Azada and Bright Thunder are others to bear in mind.

Last year's runner-up and Edinburgh National third Surrey Quest, Hasthing and Sail Away are others to note in a wide-open contest.

Nutmeg made a pleasing introduction when second at Southwell last month, while Indian Spirit are King Of Narnia are other likely improvers.

The eyes are drawn to CROWN OF OAKS who is the only runner with Group-race engagements. His yard won this last year with Economics.

THE HRSE HORSE improved from first to second start when a highly promising third from the front over 7f at Lingfield last month. The drop in trip looks like a perfect move for Jamie Osborne's charge. He gets the vote ahead of Cables Queen on her first start for the James Owen team and Gennadius, who ran well for a long way before weakening late in the piece over 1m at Bath recently.

The drop back to 6f might not hurt GENNADIUS who has displayed a fair amount of speed in two 1m maidens won by smart prospects.

BAL KAUTO was a prolific winner in 2023 and could be ready to deliver again. He was on the sidelines for the guts of two years before returning at Gowran Park last month. Although he fell four out, he wasn't beaten at the time and a subsequent fifth in Limerick should have improved his fitness. Adaliz wasn't really a factor in three maiden hurdles, but is one to note on her handicap debut. She is in good hands and could appreciate the step up in trip on better ground. Fairy Tree has been off for a long time, but has switched to Gordon Elliott and has to be given a market check.

A chance is taken on NEWPORT who may have needed his latest run and his November Thurles effort suggested this trip might suit

Karl Burke landed the corresponding event with the smart Miss Lamai 12 months ago and could repeat the dose with POLLY DARLING. The daughter of Showcasing fetched 110,000gns as a yearling and with her trainer perhaps inevitably beginning the season in fine form, she ought to be a real force. Filly Foden ran well to finish second on debut having been weak in the market and can show the benefit of that Musselburgh experience. There's A Chance warrants a market check ahead of her first start.

Polly Darling fits the bill on paper but FILLY FODEN can make the most of her experience after a pleasing second at Musselburgh.

The four-year-old's sole victory came over this distance and she could return to winning ways. Touch The Sound made a pleasing handicap debut when a respectable fourth at Dundalk in December and is an interesting contender back on turf. Imperial Dream is the pick of the remainder.

Having made light work of his opening mark at Naas last month, JUMP ALLEN looks very much one to follow. Although the six-year-old has a sizeable hike in the ratings to overcome, he scored with enough in hand to suggest that there is more to come. The biggest threat may emerge from Doncaster winner Calimystic, who isn't taken lightly entering handicaps. C'est Ta Chance and Quebecois are also of interest.

Paul Nicholls could have the answer in QUEBECOIS, who has always been campaigned as though he's a good horse. 3m should suit.

William Haggas landed this in 2023 with Klondike and he is fancied to taste further success courtesy of OPPORTUNITY. The Frankel colt, who holds entries in both Derbies, did a lot wrong on his debut at Nottingham but he caught the eye when staying on late into fourth. He looks certain to relish a step up in trip and is preferred to Furthur, who chased home a promising colt over a mile here in October. Others to note include Kenneth and Bryant.

Runner-up to what looked a smart sort from Amo Racing on debut at Wolverhampton recently, KESTA sets the standard on the back of that and he can go one better for connections that have an excellent record at this venue. A well-related sort by Cotai Glory, Buenos Dias looks capable of being in the shake-up first time out, along with Alkuwarrior, who went close at Leicester last week and should appreciate an extra half-furlong in distance.

Alkuwarrior was a much-improved second at Leicester but slight preference is for KESTA who made a promising start at Wolverhampton.

Not a daunting standard set by those with experience, so a chance can be taken on MONTPELLIER. James Ferguson's gelding has a speedy pedigree courtesy of his dam Mabs Cross, but Wootton Bassett has sired some top-class middle-distance performers and this could be an ideal starting point for him. 110,000-euro purchase Mao Shang Wong and Earthlight gelding Illuminator must be of interest, although high draws are far from ideal. City Of Poets and A War Eagle are just two others to consider.

Those with experience look ordinary and the vote goes to newcomer CITY OF POETS with Illuminator and Montpellier respected.

He enters handicaps with untapped potential and returning to further ought to be in his favour too. Kuzco (winner) defeated Izzy's Grey (third) over C&D three weeks ago and both are unlikely to be far away, along with Serious Chat, who shaped with promise at Market Rasen last time.

Donald McCain's SERIOUS CHAT made a pretty good start to his handicap career last month and remains unexposed over this sort of trip.

In the absence of stable companion and last year's Arc third Los Angeles, the unbeaten JAN BRUEGHEL has been presented with a golden opportunity on his return to action. The son of Galileo progressed with each start of his three-year-old campaign which culminated with defeat of another high-class stable companion in the St Leger. Crystal Black won five on the bounce, including at Royal Ascot and in Group 3 company at Leopardstown, and commands plenty of respect, while Tower Of London, who is better over further, and Crypto Force head the remainder.

Now that the penny has dropped for STAR ZIA after a comfortable success at Wolverhampton in February, she is likely to have plenty more improvement forthcoming and the daughter of Havana Grey can follow up on her handicap debut off what appears a workable mark. Narrowly denied on each of his last two starts at Newcastle, Frankies Dream is a key player, as is Mr Cool, who wasn't beaten far at Wolverhampton.

There's no standout in this but maybe MR COOL can come good, preferred to the reappearing Nightbird, who still has some potential.

Point-to-point winner The Jukebox Kid made an instant impression at Uttoxeter last month and could have more to offer on only his second start under Rules. However, it's hard to get away from CHART TOPPER. Willie Mullins' six-year-old occupied the runner-up berth in Grade 2 company at Kelso last month and that looks the standout piece of form in this contest. With a similar performance, he will prove tough to beat. Queensbury Boy is next best.

Willie Mullins enhanced last season's title prospects by winning this and CHART TOPPER drops in grade after his second in a Grade 2.

GREAT CHIEFTAIN was progressive over a mile last season and perhaps needed the outing at Wolverhampton last month, having been off the track since August. Returning to turf will be of benefit too and given he is only 2lb higher than his most recent Newmarket success, it would come as no surprise were he to find further improvement. The form of Lone Piper's Windsor triumph has worked out well and he merits respect from 4lb higher, as does top-weight Metallo. A beaten favourite over 5f at Newcastle in October, Londoner warrants a market check stepped up significantly in trip.

The returning SWEET REWARD makes appeal having dipped to 9lb lower than when runner-up in this on his 2024 reappearance.

Dropping back in trip looks ideal and she may be able to finally get off the mark. Course winner Notre Maison looks best placed to chase her home following a creditable effort at Wolverhampton last time out. Tilsworth Ony Ta and Time Patrol have the form to get involved in proceedings as well.

It looked a strong bumper that COYOTE SPIRIT finished third in at Navan. The winner is very highly thought of, while the runner-up came out and hacked up in another Navan bumper by 12 lengths. Ace Brannigan was only headed close home in a point-to-point that is working out well. He was carried out on his racecourse bow at Clonmel, so it is best to put a line through that result. Sunset Boulevard was a market drifter in Thurles and finished mid-division in that bumper. Given his connections, though, improvement is more than likely.

ACE BRANNIGAN was unlucky to be carried out at Clonmel when just 5-1 and the booking of John Gleeson catches the eye

Mount Athos holds a fitness edge over all of his rivals having recorded a narrow success at Kempton last month and the talented six-year-old merits the utmost respect, despite appearing to enjoy an artificial surface more than he does the turf. It might still pay to side with PABORUS, who rounded off last season with a decisive win at Southwell in October and should continue to progress throughout the campaign. Northern Express is most appealing of the remainder.

Mount Athos is solid despite a big penalty but PABORUS was firmly on the up in 2024 and can continue that progression this season.

PORTETTA faced a stiff task when pitched into a Listed event at Limerick on her racecourse debut and although the Le Havre filly struggled that day, it would come as no surprise were she to progress in these calmer waters. Hay Max fetched 75,000 pounds as a three-year-old and is worth a market check, while Pon De Replay, who has bumper winners in her pedigree, should not be overlooked.

Not disgraced in a soft-ground Listed race on her recent debut, Flat-bred filly PORTETTA may be better suited by the conditions here.

There looks to be plenty more to come from the daughter of Equiano as a three-year-old and she can defy a 3lb rise on her return to action. Sakakawea ran well for a long way at Naas last month and she's entitled to be sharper. She can feature in the finish, while La La Lucrative will appreciate this return to sprinting having won over 6f last year.

TOBY TOPS was well on top at the finish when breaking through at Southwell and a 3lb rise for that victory may not be enough to prevent him from going in again, with Billy Loughnane a positive booking in the saddle. Incan Empire continues to improve as he goes up in trip and is a big danger on his first go at 2m. Captain Potter remains nicely treated compared to his hurdles mark.

The surface is a slight concern but otherwise TOBY TOPS has plenty in his favour and can follow up his recent Southwell success.

Moonbow beat a subsequent winner in third when scoring on his second bumper start at Catterick in December and he has to be respected. However, GILLESPIE made a good impression at Ffos Las in December and could have plenty more to offer. The son of Getaway may only need to find minimal improvement in order to defy his 7lb penalty. Sutherland is another to keep an eye on.

If Willie Mullins' newcomer DYSART DOLOMITE lives up to his useful pedigree, he could get off to a successful start.

A progressive sort last term, It Just Takes Time returns to action 3lb higher than when successful on Town Moor in November. He could prove competitive, while Kodi Lion won at Ascot last summer and debuts for Mick Appleby with solid claims.

There are grounds for expecting better from Rhythm Master today but KING OF FURY can build on his game reappearance win.

Hornsea Bay made a good impression when scoring on debut at Ayr and then arguably bettered that performance under a penalty when touched off at the same venue. He appears to have a bright future, but it may pay to side with SECRET THEORY. Charlie Appleby's colt is a half-brother to the stable's Grade 1 winner Mysterious Night and struck at the first time of asking at Newmarket in the autumn. Archivist isn't out of it on his first appearance for William Haggas.

A good, interesting novice in which Derby entry ARCHIVIST might be tough to beat, getting weight, even facing some good prospects.

Luna Effect hit the crossbar in this class over 1m4f at Lingfield in January and has to be respected off the same mark, but this drop in trip is a slight concern. With that in mind, FORMAL ADDRESS gets the vote. Brett Johnson's four-year-old made the frame at Lingfield in February and the assessor kindly left his mark alone for that effort. With a repeat, he could be the one to beat. Seraphic is another to keep an eye on.

Sawgrass is the dark horse but FORMAL ADDRESS was perhaps unlucky not to have gone really close on his handicap debut.

LADY LA FAY placed over 1m2f at Newbury on her handicap bow, having landed a novice race over this trip at Ripon before that. The daughter of Camelot has untapped potential in handicaps and may prove the one to side with. Baltic made a winning reappearance last term and went on to land a four-timer. Subsequently gelded, he can have a say in proceedings, while Majestic Warrior is interesting on his handicap debut and first start since May 2023.

The 6yo KNIGHTSWOOD is exposed but good ground over 1m4f are probably his optimum conditions. The same is not true for others in here.

However, RISEN AGAIN has match fitness on his side and looks the way to go. Otago made it two wins out of his last three starts at this track when last seen in October, but with both of those victories coming on soft ground, it may open the door for BLENHEIM STAR. William Knight's filly lost two places inside the last furlong to finish fourth at Yarmouth in September and she might take advantage of a 2lb lower rating for that performance. Marsh Benham is another to watch out for.

Jim Boyle's OTAGO ended last season with a clearcut win at this track and is a big player if he can pick up where he left off.

BELL SHOT made a valiant attempt to make all over 7f at Kempton in February. Beaten less than a length into fifth, this shorter distance looks the logical move and the drop in class will also help. Musical Touch has plenty of scope after signing off last year with a victory at Wolverhampton. He rates a threat on his reappearance, while Milbanke will be sharper for a recent spin at Southwell.

The unexposed MUSICAL TOUCH (nap) is taken to maintain his progress by making a winning reappearance. Bell Shot is the main danger.

Roger Varian's filly is a potential improver now tackling further than 7f for the first time and a breakthrough victory could be in the offing. Hock Eye The Noo arrives on the back of a close-up second at Newcastle and she's feared most, ahead of the consistent Whizz By.

A few to consider and HOT LIKE ME, who faced some talented rivals last year, may be worth chancing on this drop in class/rise in trip.

The veteran is effectively 6lb lower if taking Jordan Williams' 5lb claim into account and this contest looks ripe for the taking. The biggest threat may emerge from Boujee Gold, who is only 2lb higher than her Wolverhampton triumph in December last year. Flying Star is the pick of the remainder.

There is every chance that ROCK OF ENGLAND will have come forward from his reappearance run at Southwell last month and the five-year-old is an attractive proposition back on turf. The hat-trick seeking Lord Abama is an obvious threat back on grass at one of his happiest hunting grounds, while Wreck It Ryley and Cash In are not without hope in this company.

Lord Abama is the one to beat but ROCK OF ENGLAND shaped nicely over 5f on his first run after wind surgery and makes some appeal.

Having posted a good second in a 21-runner affair at Doncaster's Lincoln meeting, MR JETMAN makes plenty of appeal. That was the five-year-old's second outing under the tutelage of Seb Spencer and his turn looks imminent. Fifty Sent justified favouritism at Southwell and a 2lb higher mark is unlikely to prevent another bold bid. Venus Slipper is also in form after so nearly completing a Lingfield brace.

A chance is taken on EDVARD GRIEG who was runner-up off 12lb higher over C&D last August. Mr Jetman can follow him home.

A 2lb rise looks far from insurmountable for Scott Dixon's inmate and compensation could be on the horizon. Monsieur Fantaisie could figure prominently on the back of a successful Wolverhampton spin, while Athollblair Boy is a stalwart campaigner with a clear chance based on his peak turf form. However, EMERALD ARMY ran well when last tried over C&D and, still unexposed over 6f, the four-year-old appears to have been found a decent chance of making a winning reappearance.

Plenty of possibles but the drop into this grade and wind surgery since last seen could see a revival from MASTERCLASS.
