Race 1: 16:15 Wolverhampton Free Digital Racecard At raceday-ready.com Restricted Maiden Fillies' Stakes (Bands C & D) (GBB) GB 1m 142y
(9) Magical Florence | | | | | | 2 | Adam Farragher | Pat Murphy | Allotted a BHA mark of 10 after three crushing defeats over 6f for Steph Hollinshead; hooded and upped in trip for stable debut but needs a remarkable transformation. |
(11) Zouzenda | | | | | | 2 | Trevor Whelan | Jonathan Portman | Poor form in two maidens this summer; a new visor isn't enough to tempt. |
(3) Kimeko Glory | | | | | | 2 | Jack Garritty | Mark Walford | 200-1 when a remote seventh of ten at Newcastle two weeks ago (1m); longer-term prospect on that evidence. |
(4) Madame Jeanette | | | | | | 2 | Finley Marsh | Dominic Ffrench Davis | Big prices and she has finished last in two fillies' novices (1m, soft and 7f, AW) in recent weeks; hard to recommend. |
(7) English Lady | | | | | | 2 | J F Egan | Dean Ivory | 10,000gns foal; dam an unraced half-sister to useful winners Lat Hawill (7f 2yo/9.4f), William Bligh (7f 2yo/9.5f) and Chocala (1m6f-2m); stable have few 2yo winners; likely best watched. |
(1) Advertorial | | | | | | 2 | Morgan Cole | Ed Dunlop | 20,000gns yearling; half-sister to winners Sylphid (French 1m1f 2yo; RPR 102) and Hosaamm (1m2f; 93); dam 1m1f winner (83), sister to 1m4f/2m Group 3 winner and Gold Cup second Nayef Road; interesting pedigree but stable has modest strike-rate with newcomers. |
(10) Tralee Girl | | | | | | 2 | Callum Shepherd | Michael Bell | Sister to 1m2f 2yo winner Dillian (RPR 107); dam a 1m-1m6f (Flat, including AW; 98) and 2m-3m hurdle/chase winner; probably one for middle distances next year. |
(5) Percy's Daydream | | | | | | 2 | Mark Winn | David O'Meara | 21,000gns yearling; dam a maiden half-sister to Group-placed 7f winner Eldalil; stable have winning 2yo newcomers so worth a market check in a thin race. |
(6) Zizi | | | | | | 2 | George Rooke | Richard Hughes | No impression over 6f at Newbury on debut; more promise when keeping on well for a never-dangerous fifth at Lingfield 16 days ago; new trip worth exploring and she's on the shortlist for a yard going well. |
(2) Enclosure | | | | | | 2 | Saffie Osborne | Sir Michael Stoute | Bred to be smart and she made a pleasing start to her career when a close sixth of nine in a 7f fillies' maiden here 38 days ago, unable to muster sufficient pace to challenge in the straight; while that form isn't anything special, she's open to improvement and this trip should suit. |
(8) Hock Eye The Noo | | | | | | 2 | Daniel Muscutt | Charlie Johnston | Sent off favourite for her Lingfield debut (7f, AW) last month and shaped nicely in third given she was caught wide early; new trip should suit and she's open to improvement but the Lingfield race wasn't strong and it's likely she will need to step forward to win. |
Few of these have achieved much and the three to appeal most are Hock Eye The Noo, Enclosure (second choice) and ZIZI. The selection was making some good late headway over 7f at Lingfield and this longer trip can prompt another step forward.[Paul Smith]
Race 2: 16:50 Wolverhampton At The Races App Market Movers Fillies' Handicap (0-68) (5) 3yo+ GB 6f 20y
(4) Spiritual Pursuit | | | | | | 3 | Connor Planas | D Donovan | Front-runner who failed to progress in six runs for Archie Watson; makes her handicap/stable debut off a competitive mark but she was sold for just 1,500gns this month and there are risks attached; now hooded for the first time. |
(6) Horse Whisperer | | | | | | 3 | Marco Ghiani | Chris Dwyer | Two sprint wins this year, including C&D, and she's now 1lb lower than for the second of them; needs to bounce back from two lesser runs though. |
(3) Jax Edge | | | | | | 4 | Gina Mangan | Christopher Mason | Cosy win at Ffos Las in June (6f, good) off a 2lb lower mark; shaped as though still in top form when third at Sandown last week (5f, good); not at her best in one C&D run last October. |
(1) Daytona Lady | | | | | | 4 | James Sullivan | Ruth Carr | Hold-up sprinter who has won four times since December, including over C&D; close up in second off this mark at Chelmsford four weeks ago; should remain competitive and this could be well run despite the small field. |
(2) Ormolulu | | | | | | 4 | Saffie Osborne | Jamie Osborne | Won twice as a 3yo, including on Tapeta, but she's been in the grip of the handicapper in 2024; dropping in the weights but others look stronger for win purposes. |
(5) Brazilian Rose | | | | | | 3 | George Rooke | Richard Hughes | Narrow winning margin on her debut (7f, AW) but she was good value for the win, tiring late on having kicked well clear in the straight; that form has been boosted by the second and third and although she was only third at Catterick last time, she was conceding 9lb to the 68-rated winner and the ground may have been slower than ideal; still has potential and this opening mark doesn't look too demanding. |
(7) Gultari | | | | | | 3 | Harry Burns | William Haggas | Prominent racer; off the mark at Yarmouth last month and she showed better form when beaten a nose back at that track nine days ago, pulling clear with a progressive winner; 3lb well in and although she's yet to shine in four AW runs, she's likely to show up more prominently today. |
Daytona Lady should be arriving on the scene late but she's up against a couple of interesting 3yos in Brazilian Rose and GULTARI. The former can surely make her mark in sprint handicaps off this opening mark but preference is for Gultari, who made a progressive opponent work extremely hard at Yarmouth last week and who will be 3lb higher from the weekend. Although her AW form looks modest, there are mitigating circumstances (three qualifying runs and then her handicap debut was over 7f) and she can do much better this time.[Paul Smith]
Race 3: 17:25 Wolverhampton Download The At The Races App Handicap (0-52) (6) 3yo+ GB 1m 1f 104y
(10) Dors Delight | | | | | | 3 | Jimmy Quinn | Dean Ivory | Nothing to quicken the pulse in three runs at up to 1m; new trip should suit but hardly a solid option having beaten just one rival so far. |
(9) Goodwood Vision | | | | | | 4 | Grace McEntee | Alexandra Dunn | 0-9 for David Menuisier and she's been beaten four times for her new yard too; cheekpieces are given a go but others look safer. |
(2) The Mayor Porky | | | | | | 4 | P J McDonald | Adrian Paul Keatley | Fell in two juvenile hurdles last year; modest form in three Flat runs on turf this summer; not obviously well treated for her handicap debut but the step up in trip should suit. |
(6) Cerulean Summer | | | | | | 3 | Morgan Cole | Dylan Cunha | Slow starts are becoming a bad habit and last time was particularly ominous; effective over C&D and on a handy mark but carries too much risk until she sorts it out leaving the stalls. |
(7) Eccentric | | | | | | 3 | Dylan Hogan | Adrian Wintle | 5lb lower than for his Southwell win in March (1m) but he's struggled for his new connections and looks best watched unless the market speaks loudly in his favour. |
(5) High Court Judge | | | | | | 4 | Luke Morris | David Dennis | Disappointed when favourite here three weeks ago and although he's on a lowly mark and has suitable conditions, others look safer for win purposes. |
(1) Boujee Gold | | | | | | 5 | Marco Ghiani | Tony Carroll | Course win (8.6f) last November off this mark; made some late gains into fourth over C&D three weeks ago but no obvious reason why she'd reverse the placings with Storm Asset. |
(8) Storm Asset | | | | | | 5 | Alistair Rawlinson | Derek Shaw | Made a slow start for this yard but he ran well when second of 12 over C&D three weeks ago; up 1lb but still well treated and he's one of the likelier ones. |
(4) Flying Panther | | | | | | 4 | Sean D Bowen | James Owen | Recorded an easy win over C&D in June and he's only 1lb higher today; last two turf runs are solid enough and his stable continue to bang in the winners; high on the list. |
(3) Sir Laurence Graff | | | | | | 4 | Joey Haynes | Chelsea Banham | Rated 34lb higher when joining this stable and he's found his level again now, third at Chelmsford (1m2f) last month before a ready win at Lingfield 17 days ago; a 4lb rise shouldn't prevent another big run. |
Flying Panther, Storm Asset (second choice) and SIR LAURENCE GRAFF appeal most and the selection, who is operating off a greatly reduced mark now, can make light of a small rise for his comfortable Lingfield win.[Paul Smith]
Race 4: 18:00 Wolverhampton Get Raceday Ready Handicap (0-75) (5) 3yo+ GB 7f 36y
(7) Bengurion | | | | | | 3 | Daniel Muscutt | Charlie Johnston | Won twice in novice company but she's barely beaten a rival in three handicaps since; down in the weights but opposable from the widest stall. |
(10) Triggered | | | | | | 8 | Edward Greatrex | Mark Loughnane | Two C&D wins last season, the second off a 4lb higher mark; not at his best on last two starts but the latest was over 6f for an amateur and after an 11-week break; type to come good soon. |
(4) Old Chums | | | | | | 3 | Alistair Rawlinson | Tom Dascombe | Only 2lb higher than for his Chester win in June; three heavy defeats have followed though and others look much safer; cheekpieces back today. |
(3) Exponista | | | | | | 3 | Brandon Wilkie | David Loughnane | Still hasn't added to her maiden win 13 months ago; bits of encouraging handicap form but she has been unable to take advantage of a declining mark; fitting of tongue-tie needs to help and her stamina is still to be proven. |
(8) Flatley | | | | | | 7 | Finley Marsh | Adrian Wintle | Has won over C&D but he's been running over further than 7f since November; only 2lb higher than for his Newbury win (1m2f) in July but he's been well held the last twice and the cheekpieces are now left off. |
(5) Roaring Ralph | | | | | | 4 | P J McDonald | Michael Dods | The winner of two of his last four starts; not quite at his best here last time but he's 3lb lower today, at least. |
(6) Shaw Park | | | | | | 5 | Dale Swift | Scott Dixon | Three wins at Brighton this summer, all over 7f on fast ground; 0-15 on AW but his peak RPR came when beaten a nose over C&D on his debut; done no favours by a slow start here on Monday and he's better than that. |
(9) Mesaafi | | | | | | 3 | Callum Shepherd | Charlie Fellowes | Seven-race maiden who has proven consistent rather than progressive; returning to 7f needs to give him a lift. |
(12) The Bitter Moose | | | | | | 3 | Sean D Bowen | Hugo Palmer | Nursery wins over C&D and at Lingfield last year; patchy form this time around but he's down in the weights, has a visor tried for the first time and the assistance of a talented apprentice; full revival not out of the question. |
(11) Ultramarine | | | | | | 5 | Alexandra McDonnell | David Evans | Four wins over the winter, including C&D, and he's been threatening this summer; his form dipped over C&D last time but the steady pace wouldn't have been ideal; each-way shout. |
(1) Dutch Kingdom | | | | | | 4 | Liam Wright | Darryll Holland | Five-time AW winner, the latest when producing a strong finish to win comfortably at Chelmsford last week; well in under a penalty and his record in Class 5 handicaps on AW now reads -161111; high on the list. |
A few of these lurk on dangerous marks, notably Triggered and The Bitter Moose, but the two to focus on could be Ultramarine and DUTCH KINGDOM (nap). The selection has a formidable record in Class 5 handicaps on the AW and he can make light of a penalty for last week's impressive Chelmsford success.[Paul Smith]
Race 5: 18:30 Wolverhampton Download The Raceday Ready App Handicap (0-85) (4) 3yo+ GB 5f 21y
(5) Hedge Fund | | | | | | 3 | Lewis Edmunds | William Muir & Chris Grassick | Began the campaign with two good runs and his next three defeats came in hot races; the trip excuses his latest two runs and he's slipped to a dangerous mark; whether he'll exploit it from the widest stall here looks debatable though. |
(8) Blazes Boylan | | | | | | 3 | Jack Mitchell | Robert Cowell | Has shown promise over this trip, including a Chelmsford win, but this is the most competitive race he's contested and he's done nothing to suggest he was well handicapped. |
(3) Michaela's Boy | | | | | | 4 | Luke Morris | Robert Cowell | Made an encouraging stable debut at Newbury last month (first run after gelding and wind ops); backward steps twice since but he's well drawn and has the pace to take advantage. |
(4) Glamorous Breeze | | | | | | 6 | Gina Mangan | Christopher Mason | Off the mark for the year with a smooth success at Bath 13 days ago (5f, good); showed some aptitude for AW on only previous attempt (after a six-month break) and she's respected up 3lb. |
(7) Mini Magna | | | | | | 3 | Cam Hardie | Antony Brittain | Hit and miss but he ran well for fourth at York 19 days ago and he's 1lb lower today; drawn wide though and he's not the only pace influence in the field. |
(9) Aidan Andabettin | | | | | | 3 | Daniel Muscutt | Richard Spencer | Ran out the easy winner of a C&D handicap in July but that race fell apart and he was beaten at a short price six days later; never featured at Chester last time; others look stronger. |
(11) Cast No Shadow | | | | | | 3 | Sean D Bowen | Hugo Palmer | Faced a straightforward task when winning a 5f novice at Newcastle in March; struggled in two turf handicaps in April but back on track when making all in a 5f handicap at Newcastle in June; may yet do better on AW but there is other pace on show and this is a step up in class. |
(10) Catch Cunningham | | | | | | 5 | Dylan Hogan | Michael Herrington | Three wins for his new yard this year, the latest over C&D 17 days ago off 4lb lower; no match for Grace Angel at Yarmouth last time and a 5lb turnaround may be insufficient. |
(2) Navello | | | | | | 5 | Grace McEntee | George Boughey | Three wins and a second from his four course runs; on a competitive mark and he ran creditably at Chepstow last time, albeit in a less competitive race than this; a strong pace would suit and he's one to consider. |
(1) Grace Angel | | | | | | 4 | Liam Wright | Darryll Holland | C&D winner; confirmed the promise of her Haydock third three weeks ago by producing a dominant display at Yarmouth ten days ago; has a penalty to shoulder but she's 2lb well in; should go well. |
(6) El Bufalo | | | | | | 3 | Rhys Clutterbuck | Dylan Cunha | Easy winner of a C&D maiden in December; dropped away to finish last of the six runners in a 7f conditions event at Newmarket in April; has had wind surgery since (now tongue tied) and moves into handicaps with some potential; 164-day absence to defy though. |
Grace Angel, impressive at Yarmouth ten days ago and well in under her penalty, is the obvious starting point and she's likely to make another bold bid. Glamorous Breeze and Catch Cunningham are others to consider but NAVELLO has a good record here and a well-run race would suit him well. He's 4lb lower than when third in the Gosforth Park Cup on his most recent AW start.[Paul Smith]
Race 6: 19:00 Wolverhampton Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap (Div I) (0-75) (5) 3yo+ GB 1m 142y
(4) It's A Love Thing | | | | | | 6 | Laura Pearson | Sam England | Low-key return from a break here 18 days ago (first run after a wind op but reportedly made a respiratory noise); now tongue tied and he's on a competitive mark but only of interest if backed. |
(1) Ernie's Valentine | | | | | | 5 | Brandon Wilkie | David Loughnane | Needs to bounce back from a couple of low-key Kempton runs; new headgear may help and he's capable at this level but he's not the most solid of options. |
(9) Faro Di Notte | | | | | | 3 | Joey Haynes | Marcus Tregoning | Disappointed at Sandown a fortnight ago (7f, soft) but the ground may not have suited and she'd run well at Goodwood previously; still has some potential but she will need to settle better over this trip. |
(7) Visibility | | | | | | 7 | Luke Morris | Scott Dixon | Conditions to suit and he's 1lb lower than for his Pontefract win in July; solid effort back at that track last week and he's one to consider back down in class. |
(8) Nogradi | | | | | | 3 | Shane Gray | Kevin Ryan | He has improved with each of his three runs in novice/maiden company, finishing third of six at Ripon (1m, good) last month; may do better handicapping on AW and the betting should be revealing. |
(5) Invincible Aura | | | | | | 3 | P J McDonald | Marco Botti | Looks a better horse on AW and although he was well held off this mark at Newbury four weeks ago, it might be in range back on Tapeta; one to take seriously. |
(2) Harlem Nights | | | | | | 4 | Lewis Edmunds | Jessica Macey | He hasn't looked in front of the handicapper in his three runs for this yard (after a year off) but he's down in the weights now and cheekpieces could help; check betting. |
(3) War Chant | | | | | | 4 | Callum Shepherd | Rae Guest | Five turf wins, the latest off just 2lb lower at Nottingham in June; encouraging AW debut at Kempton 11 days ago, his first run after a short break, and he could well take a step forward. |
(6) Bullet Point | | | | | | 3 | Adam Farragher | William Haggas | Signs of promise in three novice runs this summer; gelded prior to this handicap debut and surprising if he weren't capable of better. |
War Chant may prove the pick of the older horses and can run a big race but there are some interesting 3yos on show. Bullet Point and Fari Di Notte can feature but INVINCIBLE AURA could still have more to come on the AW and gets the tentative vote.[Paul Smith]
Race 7: 19:30 Wolverhampton Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap (Div II) (0-75) (5) 3yo+ GB 1m 142y
(8) Destinado | | | | | | 6 | Sean D Bowen | James Owen | Seven-time winner, five on the AW; inconsistent though and has finished tailed off in two runs after a break. |
(9) Light Up Our Stars | | | | | | 8 | Dale Swift | Scott Dixon | Three-time course winner but inconsistent these days and recent form not good enough. |
(3) Golspie | | | | | | 4 | Kaiya Fraser | Patrick Morris | Newbury maiden winner for Eve Johnson Houghton; has run well in handicaps but not last time at Newcastle following a break (and being gelded); others have more to recommend them. |
(2) Onslow Gardens | | | | | | 4 | Joe Leavy | Richard Hannon | Was becoming very disappointing (now 0-7) but after 121 days away he finished strongly for a close fifth over 1m at Kempton 11 days ago; if he can back that up he won't be far away. |
(5) Ajdayet | | | | | | 3 | Luke Morris | Archie Watson | Beaten about 5l in qualifying races over 1m; didn't get home over 1m2f on handicap debut but can race freely and this shorter trip can suit; now gelded; possible improver. |
(1) Atlantis Blue | | | | | | 5 | Saffie Osborne | George Baker | Won a maiden at Bath (1m, firm) in July on 16th start and followed up in handicap at Windsor (1m, good to firm); stayed on well from the back when fourth at Sandown latest; return to the AW shouldn't bother her. |
(6) Bernalda | | | | | | 3 | Daniel Muscutt | James Ferguson | Good pedigree and improving by the looks after finishing well for third over 7f at Newmarket, on handicap debut; makes AW debut over a trip that should suit and there's more to come. |
(4) Rosenzoo | | | | | | 3 | Marco Ghiani | Charlie Johnston | Three wins include one here; had lost his way but back on track behind an improver here last week (9.4f); thereabouts if in the same form again. |
The well-bred Frankel filly BERNALDA surely has better days ahead of her and Newmarket last time was encouraging, having kept on well for third on her handicap debut over 7f. Onslow Gardens is of interest all of a sudden after his belated return to form at Kempton, while Ajdayet might be an improver now gelded.[Alistair Jones]
Race 8: 20:00 Wolverhampton Get The Inside Track With raceday-ready.com Handicap (0-58) (6) 3yo+ GB 1m 4f 51y
(7) Namrud | | | | | | 3 | Luke Morris | Marco Botti | Never offered much in 7f/1m novices on the AW and the same again on handicap debut over 1m2f at Yarmouth; the tongue-tie tried there is swiftly discarded; lots to prove after that run. |
(2) Catrake Force | | | | | | 4 | Oliver Stammers | Grant Tuer | Highest of her five RPRs was on debut here over 9.4f; beaten just over 5l in her two handicaps (9.4f/1m) and needs improvement for this longer trip. |
(5) Bay Of Naples | | | | | | 8 | Dylan Hogan | Michael Herrington | Thoroughly exposed and has won only once since early 2021; still enters the equation after making the frame over C&D last month. |
(8) Sassy Glory | | | | | | 3 | Rhys Elliott | Mark Walford | Stepped up to 1m4f the last twice and found only one too good at Thirsk 11 days ago; good chance off the same mark. |
(3) Sea Of Charm | | | | | | 6 | Saffie Osborne | Georgina Nicholls | 2-44; well held by the winner when twice runner-up last month and finishing effort at Bath last time (extended 1m3f) was underwhelming; others are of greater interest for win purposes. |
(4) Lost In Time | | | | | | 7 | Jimmy Quinn | Dean Ivory | Strike-rate of 3-48 so not the easiest to win with but he's been runner-up the last twice and 1m4f probably suits better than 1m2f (latest run); respected. |
(6) Forest Spirit | | | | | | 3 | Callum Shepherd | Michael Bell | Not many positives to take from her first three runs at about 1m but consequently goes handicapping at a lowly level and she's entitled to show more over this longer trip (sire won the Arc); back from a break and the market could be informative. |
(1) Darkzideofthemoon | | | | | | 4 | Daniel Muscutt | John Butler | Ran in snatches but kept at it to push a well-treated winner close at Kempton (1m3f) and they were clear of the rest; still lightly raced and last time was his first go in cheekpieces; obvious contender. |
Forest Spirit is the dark horse on her handicap debut as she's by Arc winner Waldgeist so this longer trip promises to suit her well. Lost In Time is also respected but DARKZIDEOFTHEMOON only narrowly failed to justify favouritism at Kempton and a repeat of that could see him home.[Alistair Jones]
Race 9: 20:30 Wolverhampton At The Races App Form Study Handicap (0-65) (6) 3yo+ GB 1m 5f 219y
(6) Rock City Falls | | | | | | 3 | Sean D Bowen | Hugo Palmer | Fifth of six on handicap/turf debut at Ffos Las (1m4f, good to soft) before finishing tailed off on heavy at Hamilton (first-time cheekpieces now joined by tongue-tie); plenty of guesswork involved to make a case. |
(2) Gold Aura | | | | | | 4 | Dylan Hogan | Jack Jones | 0-18 and it was a weak fillies' novice in which she pushed the favourite close 13 days ago; that looks dodgy form and was at 1m; stays 1m4f but not sure about this far. |
(3) Atalanta Breeze | | | | | | 8 | Amie Waugh | Marcus Tregoning | Tends to come good at about this time of year and latest second over too short a trip (1m3f) was encouraging; has won over C&D as well; strong contender. |
(5) Black Smoke | | | | | | 7 | Millie Wonnacott | Mark Loughnane | Assured stayer over this far and came home strongly to win after a break over C&D 20 days ago; only 3lb higher, but hasn't always followed one good run with another. |
(4) Beau Vintage | | | | | | 4 | Daniel Muscutt | Tom Clover | Latest seconds have come on the AW at Kempton (1m4f) and gives the impression that 1m6f will be within range; no wins in 13 starts but he should shed that maiden status sooner or later; has been off since May. |
(1) V Power | | | | | | 4 | Dougie Costello | Thomas Faulkner | Ex-Irish and now 0-7; no further progress since going close on handicap/stable debut at Kempton (1m4f) in February and was beaten over 6l when third last time (1m4f); worth another go at this trip but he needs to get back near his best. |
(7) Apostle | | | | | | 3 | Luke Morris | Sir Mark Prescott Bt | Only her second handicap when doing it comfortably at Chelmsford (1m6f, AW) but disappointing that she failed under a penalty at Salisbury with no obvious excuses other than perhaps fast ground might not be her thing; 2lb higher now but, back on the AW, she's a likely contender. |
Sir Mark Prescott's APOSTLE was perhaps unsuited by the fast ground when beaten at Salisbury as the time before she won on the AW with a bit in hand. She's given another chance. Atalanta Breeze is a C&D winner who ran a positive race last time over too short a trip and this is her time of year. Black Smoke is preferred of the others.[Alistair Jones]
