(1) Heartened
2Harry RussellOllie PearsAgain looked one for further than 6f on last month's Catterick nursery debut (some encouragement to that effect on breeding), but extra 2f has to provoke major improvement even so; 3lb lower mark still looks tough.
(8) Capturethemoment
2Cam HardieOllie PearsGently regressive RPRs since June's Newcastle maiden sixth (7f), keeping on up to a point but not really faring any better upped to 1m in a Musselburgh nursery latest (good); latest 2lb drop doesn't persuade.
(6) Born Too Run
2Robert HavlinEd DunlopHalf-sister to five winners over at least 1m, but gave herself little chance of staying this trip or shorter when pulling too hard the last twice; initial mark isn't an obvious gift, and she's overlooked for now.
(10) Dark Rainbow
2Oisin OrrRichard FaheyOver 5l behind Force Of Honour stepped up to 1m on this month's nursery debut (Tapeta), though plenty of trouble in the run; this daughter of a 1m nursery winner remains of interest; cheekpieces added.
3rd (5) Gungnir
2David AllanTim EasterbyStruggled to break out of rear on all three qualifying outings, including upped to 1m latest; plenty of work for the debuted blinkers to do.
4th (7) Capricorn King
2Jason HartJohn & Sean QuinnNephew of a 1m 2yo winner; initial mark makes sense judged on his debut effort, but two backwards steps since (again over 6f) and he may still be working it all out; cheekpieces are reached for.
(4) Mavetheforcebewivu
2Connor BeasleyRoger Fell & Sean MurrayWell clear of Force Of Honour on last month's Beverley nursery debut (7.5f, good to firm), if still well held by the winner herself; longer trip ought not hurt on that evidence; chance off unchanged mark.
(9) Aleishka
2Silvestre De SousaEd DunlopHasn't obviously failed for stamina upped to 1m the last twice, but nor has she improved for the new trip, an unhelpful track position last time notwithstanding.
2nd (2) Gentle Warrior
2Clifford LeeK R BurkeNot on terms in three runs on sound surfaces so far (7.5f-1m), betraying his greenness at least once; mark is no gift judged on those efforts, but trip is no issue on breeding; chance if visor lights the spark.
1st (3) Force Of Honour
2William PyleCraig LidsterNew personal best RPR when second at Newcastle this month, if not quite seeing out 1m from the front end; unchanged mark still feels a bit high, but William Pyle's useful 3lb claim could make a difference.

First-time headgear could light the touchpaper under any or all of four of the field, with DARK RAINBOW and Gentle Warrior appealing most of these. The first-named was value for closer on this month's Newcastle nursery debut, and this daughter of a 1m nursery winner can prove her worth over the same trip granted clearer sailing. Force Of Honour may have the means to reverse Beverley placings with Mavetheforcebewivu. [Jeremy Grayson]

(8) Final Angel
2Oisin OrrRichard FaheyAll races on good to soft or slower; has shown promise but she was asked a stiff question on handicap debut at York when running without a shoe and well adrift; sights lowered today so might make more impression.
(11) Lady Lightning
2Silvestre De SousaEd DunlopWinning debut over 5f on AW but she's had some quiet days since and a recent fourth of six at Chepstow (5f, good to soft; first-time blinkers, now discarded) didn't suggest she was ahead of her mark.
(2) Eighteen Fourteen
2Cam HardieOllie PearsHas run well on soft; winner of C&D novice (good to firm) on third start but he was feeling the pinch when hampered 2f out on handicap debut at York in July; dropped just 1lb but he should have more to give.
(13) Novamay
2Connor BeasleyMichael DodsHas raced only on good to firm; made good late gains against more experienced rivals when a never-nearer third of 12 at Beverley on debut (5f); no progress since but of more interest at this level for the first time and, as a daughter of Mayson, any easing of the ground should suit.
(1) Fear And Fast
2Raul Da SilvaIsmail MohammedThe big sales race at York last month asked too much but he'd previously shown marked improvement on his third start when a keeping-on fourth at Beverley (5f, good to firm; 1l behind Bella Love); has been gelded; can fare better on handicap debut.
(14) Perfidia
2David AllanTim EasterbyA slow burner in handicaps but he fared better when cheekpieces were added to the tongue-tie at Thirsk (6f, good to soft) last week, where he finished just behind Fallen Soldier; not far away if headgear continues to work; yard has won this twice since 2015.
(3) Bella Love
2Tom EavesCraig LidsterFair form in defeat at 6f (good to soft) and 5f (good and good to firm) but she didn't find a thing on her handicap debut at Thirsk this month and therefore others higher up the list today.
(10) Rex Carver
2Joe FanningCharlie JohnstonHas plenty of experience under his belt, including in three handicaps off similar marks to today's, at 6f and 5f, but he's beginning to look exposed and others may improve past him.
2nd (4) Forteleza
2Luke MorrisArchie WatsonImproving filly who would have gone even closer at Wolverhampton (6f) 20 days ago but for losing her momentum as rival swerved towards her; looks the type to do better at this level for yard that's 10-32 with 2yos here.
(7) Fallen Soldier
2Jason HartJohn & Sean QuinnHad a desperate run when never-nearer fourth on handicap debut at Southwell and he might have taken on plenty when chasing home a Harry Charlton handicap debutante at Thirsk (6f, good to soft) last week where he ran around under pressure; has potential if first-time cheekpieces help.
1st (6) I Need Your Love
2Billy GarrittyMichael & David EasterbyShaped quite nicely on York debut but not yet seen the best of him, seemingly outstayed over the extended 7f at Beverley and again at Carlisle (6f, soft) two weeks ago; this sharper 6f could see him in a better light; first-time visor replaces blinkers; still time for him to do better.
3rd (12) Herecomesthebear
2Paul MulrennanHugo PalmerHandled heavy ground well and the return to 6f suited when nabbing Saytarr late at Ffos Las in August but turning him out quickly under a penalty didn't work out; had more of a break this time and not discounted.
4th (5) Brandywine Falls
2James DoyleRoger VarianMinor promise in qualifying runs and although his handicap debut at Ripon (5f, good to firm; favourite) was disappointing it did look as though he might have been caught out by the undulations; no surprise to see him fare better back at 6f; leading yard is 6-18 with 2yos here.
(9) Saytarr
2Callum RodriguezCharlie FellowesTwo willing efforts in 6f handicaps, on the AW and then heavy ground at Ffos Las last month when he ended up a sitting duck for well-backed Herecomesthebear; looks sure to give a good account and makes more appeal than many.

Brandywine Falls shouldn't be dismissed back on a more conventional track but SAYTARR won't mind what the weather does and can gain his revenge on Herecomesthebear for his latest defeat at Ffos Las. Forteleza is improving and can also figure while Fallen Soldier (second choice) could be all the better for cheekpieces. Perfidia, close behind the latter at Thirsk, and Novamay are also respected among the high numbers.[Emily Weber]

6th (4) Launceston
2Luke MorrisSir Mark Prescott BtTwice well held over 6f on the AW and handicaps will be more like it.
3rd (5) Lunar Orbit
2Silvestre De SousaWarren Greatrex100,000euros breeze-up 2yo; beaten just over 4l at Leicester (7f, soft) despite racing keenly and clearly has ability; hard to rule out.
1st (2) High Season
2Connor BeasleyCharlie JohnstonExcellent pedigree; his Beverley conqueror (unraced since) has Group-race entries and it was the valuable Convivial Maiden at York in which he struggled next time (had a wide journey); both those runs at about 7f on good to firm; respected.
4th (1) Caledonian
2Callum RodriguezDavid SimcockHalf-brother to 2yo Group 1 winner Dick Whittington; caught the eye on debut and then bumped into a useful horse at Yarmouth (7f, good to firm); with further improvement likely he's a strong contender.
2nd (3) Last Galileo
2Clifford LeeK R Burke200,000euros yearling; fifth foal; brother to winners Delphi (1m-1m6f including Australian Group 2; RPR 109), Credenza (8.4f; 104) and Matchless (7f-1m4f Flat, 94; 2m hurdle); dam 5f and 6f (Group 3) 2yo winner (105); holds a Group 1 Futurity Trophy entry.

Last Galileo has a Group 1 entry and could be anything, but HIGH SEASON, Caledonian and Lunar Orbit have experience in the bag and they've all shown promise. Marginal preference is for the Johnston runner who endured a wide trip in the Convivial at York.[Alistair Jones]

3rd (7) Grovely Belle
3Connor BeasleyMrs Ilka Gansera-LevequeBeaten single-figure lengths in two Kempton visits (7f/1m) but she needs to step up to threaten the best of these; now has tongue tied.
(9) Supernova Steps
3Laura PearsonDavid LoughnaneClosely related to connections' prolific and very useful miler Sparks Fly; tailed off on heavy-ground debut and then fourth of six on good at Brighton (7f); one for another day.
(8) Melodiam
3Clifford LeeK R BurkeWeak 28-1 chance when eighth in a 7f AW maiden at Dundalk in April; remains in the same ownership despite moving yards; best watched more than likely.
(5) Wessex
3Callum RodriguezDavid & Nicola BarronSeventh in one run for previous yard and later changed hands for 11,000gns; belated second run was ten days ago when a very disappointing odds-on favourite at Musselburgh (5f, good); the hood tried there is left off now but now has a lot to prove.
(3) Dark Venture
3Silvestre De SousaCharles Hills175 days between his two races (7f), showing similar form on the AW; didn't impress with his finishing effort last time and this looks stronger.
4th (2) Walsingham
4David NolanDavid O'MearaLeft Dermot Weld for 50,000gns and as an eight-race maiden; did show plenty of ability though and has been gelded; could find 7f on the sharp side but needs checking in the market on return from 13-month absence.
1st (6) Ghaihaban
3Jason WatsonAndrew BaldingConsistent maiden who wasn't beaten far back from a break in a 1m AW novice last time; she's not progressing but capable of winning a race of this nature.
2nd (4) My Cloud
3James DoyleRoger Varian325,000euros breeze-up buy and a half-brother top-class miler Palace Pier; unable to justify odds-on favouritism in an ordinary 7f maiden at Newcastle and second run has been a long time coming; retains potential, however.

Another chance can be given to Palace Pier's half-brother MY CLOUD who was odds-on when beaten on his debut back in February. He retains potential, whereas likely danger Ghaihaban is becoming exposed. The market should tell a tale with Walsingham.[Alistair Jones]

(8) Sambucus
3Paul MulrennanEd WalkerBest of her three runs was the first at Bath (1m, good) but she's a well-bred filly from whom better was seemingly expected last time (heavy); unexposed handicap debutante.
(1) Ala Kaifi
4Raul Da SilvaIsmail Mohammed1m2f winner on soft last season and went in again in Abu Dhabi in January (1m4f, good); however, well held after a break on two visits to Doncaster and well behind Liberty Coach in the latest.
(7) Wind River
3Robert HavlinEd DunlopRunner-up in a 1m maiden second time out but was tailed off at Goodwood 22 days ago (1m2f, good); bit to prove on the back of that effort now into handicaps.
1st (2) Ey Up Its The Boss
5David NolanTony Coyle & Kaine WoodTwo 1m2f wins at Ripon this season and produced another two good runs before well held at York last time; not that consistent but capable at this level if on a good day.
(5) Piecederesistance
6Billy GarrittyMicky HammondNo win since July 2022; runner-up on the first (York) and latest (Newmarket) of his four starts this season and he's well capable of being seriously involved, but perhaps not the percentage call for win purposes.
(6) Eeetee
6Sean KirraneJohn WainwrightRan another solid race when beaten 2l at Redcar last week (1m2f, good to firm) but he's now 0-8 for this yard and needs to pull out more from somewhere.
3rd (9) Up The Jazz
3Oisin OrrRichard FaheyCareer best in winning a seven-runner race over 1m2f at Ripon (good to soft) and hold-up style wasn't suited to the way it panned out back there next time; has been off for 67 days but has a big run in him.
4th (10) Secret World
3Joe FanningCharlie JohnstonClose up behind Ey Up Its The Boss three runs back and returned to that level with another second at Beverley (first-time cheekpieces); thereabouts.
2nd (3) Liberty Coach
3Jason HartJohn & Sean QuinnHas gone 2-2 since fitted with cheekpieces and came readily clear at Doncaster ten days ago (1m2f, soft); this looks winnable under a penalty.

As he won with such authority at Doncaster there must be every chance that LIBERTY COACH (nap) will be up to defying a penalty here. Sambucus is the dark horse as a well-bred filly making her handicap debut. Ey Up Its The Boss and Secret World should be on the premises.[Alistair Jones]

(3) Star Zinc
5Jason WatsonRebecca MenziesNo turf form worthy of the name since autumn 2022, the heavy ground last time not easily blamed (coped with it fine on one previous encounter); further 2lb drop is unpersuasive.
(2) Anjo Bonita
4Billy GarrittyMicky HammondWon at Hamilton (1m1f) and York (1m2f; today's mark) a year ago, but failed by some way to get home under the same pace-forcing tactics on both 2024 runs; has left the Fell and Murray yard to rejoin first stable.
4th (1) No Surrender
4Robert HavlinEd DunlopLeicester novice win last year came over 1m2f (good); better RPRs with each outing so far this term and on a fine mark now, but again looked a handful last time out and needs to help himself more; blinkers off.
3rd (4) Highwaygrey
8David AllanTim EasterbyMiles behind two of these at York before last week's C&D 0-83 fifth (good to firm) in debuted blinkers got him broadly back on track; over two years since he last defied a mark in the 70s, however.
(7) L'Ennemi
3Ryan SextonJulie CamachoProgressive maiden for Ralph Beckett last year (6f-1m); well below that level in handicaps for new connections, proving too fractious in the debuted hood latest (retained nevertheless); 1m2f asks a fresh question.
(5) Unplugged
8Lewis ChalkleyMichael & David EasterbyPeppering the target under Serena Brotherton over the summer (neck second off this mark once) before offering far less at York latest; no trip concerns whatsoever, but less persuasive on softer than good.
(10) Powerful Response
4Silvestre De SousaGeoffrey HarkerHasn't gone on from April's Nottingham score off 3lb higher (1m2f, soft) and remains winless above Class 5; although this month's Doncaster fourth rates a step back in the right direction, more is needed.
2nd (9) Titainium
3Harrison ShawGrant TuerDoubled career tally in a C&D 0-68 last month (good to firm), and refusal to settle likely more the issue than this 4lb higher mark on one run since; effective on good to soft as well as quicker; still of interest.
1st (8) Glistening Nights
3Oisin OrrRichard FaheyDrawn next to Unplugged when finishing seven places and over 6l ahead of him at York latest (1m2f); career-high mark unchanged and would likely prefer little to no rain, but does shape as if still in form.
(6) True Wisdom
3Connor BeasleyCharlie JohnstonFound only the thriving See That Storm a neck too good over C&D last week (good to firm; Highwaygrey over 4l further back); may not be able to dictate matters to the same extent, but claims obvious off the same mark; unraced on softer than good since a moderate debut (albeit in a Class 2).

Appreciable rain would oblige some of these either to prove or to reaffirm their effectiveness on slower than good, notably last week's C&D close second True Wisdom (next best), Glistening Nights and Unplugged. TITAINIUM's Ayr second last month, in comparison, was gained with at least some give underfoot, and assuming he settles better again this time than last he may well take his C&D record to 2-2. 4th (10) Taygar
3Paul MulrennanMichael DodsCosy winner of a 5f handicap at Ayr in July; less good twice since, however, and she was left trailing by Maris Angel here last week.
(2) Hurt You Never

(6) Yazaman
6Mark WinnPaul MidgleyEnded a long losing run at Nottingham in May and went on to win his next three starts; perhaps needed recent return from eight weeks off but this mark does ask more of him.
(4) Glory Fighter
8David NolanPaul MidgleyTwo wins this year, on heavy and good to firm, and he ran well at Catterick on his penultimate start; latest disapponting effort came in a messy race and can be excused; other pace to deal with here though.
(5) Castan
4Andrew BreslinBryan Smart7lb lower than for his AW win in March; promising effort at Beverley last month but he failed to back it up at Newcastle in a Racing League handicap five weeks ago (well backed); in calmer waters here but there are risks attached, especially if the ground were to ease signifcantly.
(8) Sound Reason
6Silvestre De SousaDavid O'MearaPlaced in three of his last four starts, the latest at Leicester a fortnight ago where he did his rider no favours by persistently hanging to his right; capable of a big run if keeping straighter.
1st (7) Project Dante
5Clifford LeeGeoff OldroydClassy 2yo, third in the 2021 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot; stood little racing since and he's found it tough going so far this year; drops in class today and worth checking for market confidence.
(1) Soul Seeker
7Jason WatsonDavid O'MearaFinally exploited his lowly mark with a comfortable front-running win at Sandown last week (5f, good); well in under a 4lb penalty and although significant rain wouldn't be optimal, he's still high on the list.
(3) Miss Brazen
4Joanna MasonMichael & David EasterbyYet to win this year but she's run some good races, including a close third off this mark at Beverley 25 days ago; won't mind rain; one to consider at a track where she's won before.
3rd (11) Rainbow Rain
5Jason HartTracy WaggottAll wins at 6f, including here; effective at this trip but he's still seeking his first win of the year and he's lacked consistency this summer; easy lead would seem unlikely here too.
2nd (9) Maris Angel
3Jack GarrittyMark Walford2-2 since handicapping, well backed at Wolverhampton before an easy win over C&D last week (good to firm; turf debut), pulling away from her rivals close home despite still looking green; well ahead of the handicapper under a penalty (effectively only 4lb higher) and obvious chance to complete her hat-trick; rain would ask a new question of her.

The hat-trick seeking Maris Angel was strong at the finish here last week and remains of serious interest from a handicapping perspective. The ground is likely to be much slower this time though and that does ask a new question of her. Sound Reason and Miss Brazen are possible alternatives but SOUL SEEKER was dominant at Sandown last week and he's tentatively preferred.[Paul Smith]

Plenty are in with a shout. Recent Thirsk scorer Count Palatine seems sure to be on the premises while in-form trio Kode Secret, Mr Heinz and Lumenbourg can all have a say. Kevin Ryan's unexposed Borderline Boss is another to consider after a wind op but this could rest between Michael Herrington's C&D winners Kodebreaker and RATAFIA, with preference for the latter after his stylish Yarmouth victory.[Peter Entwistle]
