(4) Arisaig
3Jamie SpencerCharlie JohnstonYet to encounter ground softer than good; has developed into a fairly useful handicapper this term, best form when winning at Glorious Goodwood (1m); ran respectably, amid trouble, at Leopardstown most recently; faces a harder task upped in class.
(1) Doom
4Tom MarquandWilliam HaggasVersatile ground-wise; form dipped the last twice but consistent previously and may well rebound in this scenario (drops back in class); successful in her last Listed attempt and also warrants respect on the pick of her Group efforts, including at Royal Ascot (1m).
(7) Rolica
3William BuickJane Chapple-HyamFailed to sparkle in Group races elsewhere the last twice; however, showed progress at this course (good) in the spring, winning a maiden at the Craven meeting then good sixth in the 1,000 Guineas; brings a respectable rating and is interesting back here.
(5) Fair Point
3Rob HornbyRalph BeckettMade all in Class 2 fillies' handicap at Ascot (1m, soft) three weeks ago, adding to her wide-margin Chester maiden win and taking form figures to 3221331; steadily improving filly who could well rate higher still; possibilities upped further in grade.
(2) Sirona
4Ryan MooreDavid MenuisierPossibly best on good/softer; largely encouraging form this season for new stable, notably a good effort in the Group 1 Falmouth; close second in Listed event at Longchamp (1m) most recently; leading player on the figures, kept to this grade.
(3) Spiritual
3Kieran ShoemarkJohn & Thady GosdenSeemingly best when able to dominate; made all for 25-1 Listed win at Sandown (1m, soft) on Eclipse day and backed up that form when fourth in Group 3 returned to that venue (good) last time; possibilities at this level, granted an uncontested lead.

The excellent record of 3yos in this race heightens interest in ROLICA, who may well resume her progress returned to Newmarket, and the improving Fair Point. Useful Spiritual, from the same age-group, has possibilities granted an easy lead while the 4yos Sirona and Doom certainly warrant respect on form.[Steve Boow]

(8) Sinology
3Hollie DoyleDavid SimcockWon maiden at Newbury (1m2f, good to soft) in April; better form since in the Group 3 Musidora at York and a Group 2 at Longchamp (1m4f, good to soft; gave trouble at stalls) but she was nevertheless put firmly in her place in both, indicating that she has a great deal to find in this company too.
(5) Comic Book
3Shane FoleyMrs John HarringtonWon maiden at Bellewstown (1m4f, good) from the front in July; much better form when close up since in a Group 3 at Deauville (1m4f, good; made most) and Listed race at Longchamp (1m6f, good to soft; always prominent) but she needs a fair bit better still to win this; trainer won this in 2021.
(1) Divina Grace
4Billy LoughnaneRae GuestHas graduated from handicaps to Listed races for last four starts, with major career-best efforts on last two occasions when she won on the July course here (from Place Of Safety) and was fourth at York (both 1m4f on good to firm); three of today's rivals have better form, though.
(6) Francophone
3Joe FanningCharlie JohnstonRunner-up in Group 3 Musidora at York and won Listed race at Goodwood (again about 1m2f on good) ten days later in May; thoroughly outclassed on softer ground in Group 1 at the Curragh but fourth in 1m2f Listed race at Salisbury last month was respectable and, although overall improvement is needed, she now looks well worth a go at 1m4f, which was her dam's trip.
(3) Sea Of Roses
4Oisin MurphyAndrew BaldingSeventh attempt at a Listed race saw her finally win one at Windsor (11.4f, soft) five weeks ago, switching to front-running in a small field and holding on by a neck; now searches for her Group-race breakthrough (she's run in six) and she has each-way claims.
(2) Mistral Star
4William BuickHughie MorrisonImproved markedly to score in good style in Newmarket Listed race in July and similar form when fourth in Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks at York (again 1m4f on good to firm) five weeks ago; withdrawn due to unsuitable ground (good to soft) at Doncaster two weeks ago; big player if the ground is okay.
(7) Place Of Safety
3Kieran ShoemarkJohn & Thady GosdenScored readily in a novice at Kempton (1m3f, AW) in July and improved markedly again when second of nine to Divina Grace in Listed race on the July course here (1m4f, good to firm; travelled best) one month later; has a bit to find, but after just three races (none on softer than good) she must bring realistic hopes of further progress.
(4) Time Lock
5Ryan MooreHarry CharltonImproved form last September, winning a Listed event in France (1m4f, good to soft) followed by this Group 3 (good to firm) and the latter form would give her an excellent chance today; it has not been repeated this term but two of her three results (all higher level) were respectable, so she's still firmly in the picture; tongue tied first time.

While Time Lock (second choice) won this race last year in such good style and Place Of Safety is a 3yo of clear potential, the prospect of testing ground sways the vote in favour of SEA OF ROSES, who has commendable efforts in Group races to her name even though she has not won one. A soft-ground Listed win against male rivals last time was career-best form. Mistral Star has the best form this season but that came on good to firm and she was withdrawn at Doncaster two weeks ago when the ground was good to soft.[Richard Austen]

(6) Serving With Style
2Clifford LeeK R BurkePerhaps unsuited by good ground in the May Hill, having gained her Carlisle/Goodwood wins on soft/good to soft, but that Doncaster defeat leaves her with something to prove in another Group 2 race; again faces a difficult task on ratings.
(7) Troia
2Tom MarquandEd WalkerKingman filly who made a successful debut, with a bit to spare, in Newbury maiden (6f, good) ten weeks ago; subsequently withdrawn from Goodwood Group 3 due to soft ground; brings potential to this assignment and looks an interesting contender.
(2) Definitive
2Rossa RyanClive CoxHas something to find on her 6f performances which comprise a win at Haydock (good) and keeping-on fifth in Ascot Group 3 (good to firm); however, gives the impression this extra furlong may prompt a higher level of form; hood applied.
(3) Duty First
2Hollie DoyleArchie WatsonBrings progressive 7f form that comprises a promising effort at the Newwmarket July festival, clearcut success at Ayr (good) and second-place finish in Group 3 at Goodwood (soft); made the running the last twice; evidently won't mind what the weather does; solid contender.
(4) Ecstatic
2Ryan MooreA P O'BrienWon well at Tipperary (7.5f, good to firm) last month on second outing, then ran respectably in the May Hill at Doncaster (1m, good; Group 2) while shaping as if this drop back in trip will suit; first foal of a smart performer for her yard and should do better still; major player.
(1) Bubbling
2Sean LeveyA P O'BrienBallydoyle filly whose fairly useful 7f form includes a 5l success in maiden at the Galway festival (yielding; second start) and creditable third, amid traffic issues, in Listed event at Leopardstown (good) subsequently; still open to further progress and enters calculations.
(5) Formal
2William BuickSir Michael StouteWell-bred filly, by Dubawi and the first foal of her connections' Falmouth winner Veracious; has duly shown plenty of promise in recording comfortable wins over 7f at Newbury (good to firm) and Leicester (soft), looking a smart filly in the making; legendary trainer, who retires at the end of this season, landed the Rockfel in 1981, 1988 and 2010; strongly respected.

Highly promising FORMAL is taken to give the soon-retiring Sir Michael Stoute a fourth Rockfel success. Duty First, who holds solid claims and could well have her own way up front, is second choice. Ballydoyle fillies Bubbling and Ecstatic warrant respect, while once-raced Troia adds interest.[Steve Boow]

(4) Dancing Gemini
3Tom MarquandRoger TealSmart 2yo and looked booked for a good second season when second in the Group 1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains at Longchamp (1m, soft) in May; everything has gone rather pear-shaped since and, although he steadied the ship to some extent back over 1m at Goodwood last time (1m Group 3), he was still behind Lead Artist and Task Force; opposable.
(6) Task Force
3Ryan MooreRalph BeckettRunner-up in last season's Group 1 Middle Park at Newmarket; has drawn a blank this year (kicked off in the Guineas) but, tongue tied the last twice, he's not enjoyed the clearest of passages in two Group 3s and was closing on Lead Artist at Goodwood in the penultimate one; all runs on good or faster but there's hope on breeding that some give underfoot could benefit; respected.
(1) Poker Face
5James DoyleSimon & Ed CrisfordRain welcomed as there was ease underfoot when completing a Listed/Group 3/Group 2 hat-trick over this trip last season; failed to exploit an easy lead when overhauled late on by Ice Max at Goodwood two runs back (1m, soft) but he was conceding the winner 6lb; a player on that form, and he ran perfectly well in a Group 2 at Leopardstown 13 days ago on ground that would have been quick enough.
(2) Prague
4Daniel TudhopeDylan CunhaUnraced for Aidan O'Brien and only made his debut in June, winning a 1m2f Sandown maiden (good to soft); even better form in defeat, notably when contesting his first Group race and unlucky not to have won at Haydock 20 days ago (1m, good; first-time tongue-tie); this is unlikely to be so muddling as that with a truer pace likely on this stiffer track; not yet exposed, he's in the mix.
(5) Lead Artist
3Kieran ShoemarkJohn & Thady GosdenWell-bred colt on the upgrade; clocked a good time when plenty of use was made of him to win a Group 3 at Goodwood (1m; good to firm; Task Force third) and bumped into a top-class 7f specialist over that trip at Doncaster 13 days ago (good); has to rate the most likely winner, though the weather needs watching given that he bypassed the Celebration Mile after conditions turned soft.
(3) Ice Max
3Clifford LeeK R BurkeThe ground has been softer than good for all five wins, the latest Goodwood's Group 2 Celebration Mile in which he conceded first run to Poker Face but wore him down late on; 5lb worse off with the winner but can finish strongly up the hill; big shout.

Lead Artist returns to 1m after failing to deal with the top-class Kinross over that one's optimum trip of 7f at Doncaster but there would be doubts about him on softening ground. It's a case of the more rain the better for Celebration Mile protagonists Ice Max (second choice) and Poker Face, while that scenario wouldn't do Prague any harm. However, TASK FORCE is interesting. He has been boxing on well in his races after getting outpaced on fast ground and, as a son of Frankel, there's hope that he might improve for a slower surface.[Alistair Jones]

(8) Oceans Five
2Rob HornbyBrian Meehan42,000gns yearling; by Bated Breath out of a French 11.5f winner who is daughter of a 1m4f Group 2 winner; already gelded; no fancy entries, unlike stablemate Dragonflame.
(12) Spirit Of Albion
2Robert HavlinAmanda Perrett28,000euros foal, 25,000gns yearling; Invincible Spirit half-brother to 6f/7f AW winner Okami, out of 1m2f winner; already gelded; some of the other newcomers are more appealing.
(2) Azoozi
2Neil CallanJohn ButlerShowed some promise at Haydock (7f, good to soft) where he eventually faded into a midfield position; however, the bare form is below the required standard in this race.
(13) Towerlands
2Ray DawsonJames Ferguson55,000gns yearling; Earthlight half-brother to three winners, notably Lady Hayes (Group-placed 7f/1m 2yo); dam 1m4f-14.5f winner (including Listed); yard is only 1-25 with 2yos this term.
(3) Dragonflame
2Billy LoughnaneBrian MeehanPinatubo colt who holds a Dewhurst entry; made some promising late headway, amid traffic issues, at Newbury (6f, good to firm) ten weeks ago; possibilities with improvement on the cards.
(9) Sea Force
2Tom MarquandWilliam HaggasSea The Stars half-brother to 6f (2yo) and 7f (Group 3) winner Pretty Crystal, out of 6f/7f winner (including 2yo/Group 3); yard won this race with a newcomer (SP 33-1) in 2018; not ruled out.
(7) Music Of Time
2James DoyleCharlie ApplebyColt by Dubawi out of a Group-placed French 7f 2yo winner whose siblings include two Group 3 scorers; stable second string on jockey arrangements; the market should offer further guidance.
(5) Frankini
2Oisin MurphyAndrew BaldingFrankel colt; promising fourth in Ascot maiden (7f, soft) where he finished just under 2l behind Seaplane; with improvement plausible, he's set for an interesting rematch with that rival.
(4) Eupator
2Sean LeveyRichard Hannon115,000euros foal; by Persian King; closely related to French 8.5f AW winner Poliana, half-brother to two French winners; dam unraced half-sister to Midday; holds a Futurity entry; check the betting.
(1) Archivist
2Ryan MooreSir Michael StouteNicely bred colt, by Dubawi out of a useful performer for his connections; posted a solid-looking effort at Leicester (7f, soft) this month and could well take another step forward; big player.
(10) Seaplane
2Rossa RyanPaul & Oliver ColeHalf-brother to a Group 2 scorer for his connections; looks a winner waiting to happen, having finished second in two maidens, latest at Ascot (7f, soft; nearly made all); Futurity entry; respected.
(11) Secret Theory
2William BuickCharlie ApplebyDubawi half-brother to five winners, notably his connections' Grade 1 winners (in Canada/USA) Mysterious Night and Althiqa; stable first string on jockey arrangements; interesting debutant.

With further progress on the cards, ARCHIVIST is preferred. Seaplane and Frankini are the other main form contenders and their rematch could go either way, while Dragonflame looks likely to take a step forward. Some of the newcomers are interesting, most notably Secret Theory who is second choice behind the selection.[Steve Boow]

(3) Enemy
7Billy LoughnaneIan WilliamsStill smart on AW last winter and went close at Riyadh in February; badly lost his way back in Britain and although there was an upturn in his form last time, he came only sixth of seven in that Chester Listed race, so it's not convincing; more to prove back down in trip and if the ground is soft/heavy.
(8) Lucentio
3Robert HavlinJohn & Thady GosdenUnbeaten in this headgear combination in 11.4f handicaps at Windsor on last three outings; did it comfortably on soft ground before harder work on good to firm while showing improved form again on last two starts; this race, however, is a mighty leap up in class.
(6) Ziggy
6Tom MarquandHarry EustaceHis only runs on soft ground were in 2021; started this season with four good placings (two at Epsom, then two at Ascot) and then won a lesser 1m4f race at York in July; seemingly stretched by 1m6f when heavily backed for the Ebor at York on latest outing; back to 1m4f here but probably needs a career best on this move out of handicaps.
(2) Burdett Road
4Harry DaviesJames OwenWon on soft over hurdles; made an encouraging return to the Flat in July, which he's not lived up to in his two starts since; how to settle him seems to be a perennial issue, which excuses the Ebor at York (found himself in front rank early on) but he never posed a threat in Listed race at Chester (soft; tongue tied first time) 13 days ago; marked overall improvement is needed.
(7) Quietness
4Rossa RyanMarcus TregoningFive wins and a second from her six races since joining Marcus Tregoning, all 1m2f-1m4f handicaps on good or good to firm (withdrawn from recent engagements when it was soft or heavy); the last three wins were in very small fields but there's no doubt she's improving, which she needs again at this level.
(1) Aimeric
5Clifford LeeK R BurkeWon a handicap on reappearance and he's held his own since for minor honours in three Listed events and a Group race; left Roger Varian before his close third at Windsor (soft) five weeks ago behind Sea Of Roses, who runs in the 2.25 today; a leading player.
(4) Epic Poet
5Daniel TudhopeDavid O'MearaActs on good to soft, unraced on soft; French Listed win in 2022; held up towards rear on first four starts for new yard this term, finishing on the premises in three top handicaps (1m4f, 1n2f and 1m6f) despite sometimes meeting traffic problems; ridden in midfield instead in good handicap at Haydock (1m6f, good) three weeks ago and this time got there in plenty of time, going on to win by a neck; that handicap form makes him a player at this level.
(9) Military Academy
3Kieran ShoemarkJohn & Thady GosdenLate foal; made his debut only five weeks ago, when taking a novice at Hamilton (1m3f, heavy) in clearcut style from the evens favourite who won a big handicap next time out; highly promising again to follow up in novice at Salisbury (1m2f, good to soft) two weeks ago, when hanging right didn't help but he made all and strode 6l clear from over 1f out; this is a big step up in class but a bold show would not surprise.

The solid option appears to be AIMERIC (nap), who has consistently run well this summer to give himself leading form claims, including from his run on soft ground last time out. The unbeaten twice-raced Military Academy has to be feared, though, given the mighty impression he's left in his two novice races, and Epic Poet put himself into serious calculations with his breakthrough win in a major handicap last time.[Richard Austen]

(7) Westridge
3Kieran ShoemarkJohn & Thady GosdenOff the mark at Windsor (1m, good to firm) in June, then fared better than the bare result (met trouble) in Glorious Goodwood handicap; gelded since; gives the impression he'll stay this extra furlong; raced only four times and remains open to further improvement; respected.

Having performed creditably against a few subsequent scorers at Chester two months ago, MORE THUNDER holds particularly strong claims off an unaltered mark, especially as he remains open to further improvement. Westridge, a similar sort, is feared most.[Steve Boow]
