Race 1: 14:05 Listowel John J. Galvin Maiden Hurdle IRE 2m 2f
(2) Another Question | | | | | | 6 | Shane Fitzgerald | Miss J M Lee | Poor form in three runs at triple figure odds so far. |
(8) It's His Life | | | | | | 6 | Jake Coen | Peter Fahey | Pulled up in a point-to-point and tailed off when 100-1 for his rules debut. |
(9) Major Wells | | | | | | 8 | Mikey Hamill | Robert Murphy | Some promise in bumpers back in 2021; pulled up in two point-to-point runs last year though and has been off 502 days. |
(15) Rag N Bone | | | | | | 7 | Richard Condon | Michael Butler | Runner-up in one of his four point starts; hard to recommend on what he's shown under rules since. |
(20) Diamond Jimmy | | | | | | 5 | | Miss J M Lee | Second reserve; tailed off 80-1 shot on debut and pulled up here on Wednesday. |
(4) Belmont Jet | | | | | | 6 | Harry Sexton | E Sheehy | Jet Away gelding; dam unplaced 1m/9.4f (RPR 53), out of 1m4f Flat/2m hurdle winner; unlikely to make an impact on debut; tongue-tied. |
(11) Nothingtoseehere | | | | | | 5 | Jordan Gainford | Cian Collins | Showed very little when a tailed off 100-1 shot at Galway earlier this month. |
(21) Peg Of The Hills | | | | | | 6 | | Patrick Joseph Hayes | Third reserve; minor promise in a couple of her bumper starts but best watched for now. |
(18) Youmzain Bolt | | | | | | 5 | Calum Hogan | Eoin Christopher McCarthy | Showed little on debut but minor progress when a distant sixth at Tramore last week; fair bit to find though. |
(1) Annamaymurt | | | | | | 7 | Danny Gilligan | Paul John Gilligan | Encouraging debut when sixth of 25 in a maiden hurdle at Naas in February and that form worked out nicely; returned lame when tailed off subsequently over 3m; market may be revealing on return from 179 days off and markedly back down in trip for his return. |
(5) Boston Beach | | | | | | 5 | Sam Ewing | Gordon Elliott | Failed to build on debut fourth (beaten 25l) when tailed off at Kilbeggan last month (green throughout); has been fairly prominent in the betting for both of those runs but needs a lot more here. |
(14) Opposite Ends | | | | | | 6 | Philip Byrnes | C Byrnes | Unseated on debut and tailed off twice since; probably best watched after 122 days off. |
(6) Boston Rajj | | | | | | 6 | Jack Kennedy | Gordon Elliott | Well held on debut and didn't build on that when a distant third of seven at Sligo last month; back down in trip and has plenty to find; Kennedy seemingly prefers him to Boston Beach. |
(13) On Your Way | | | | | | 6 | Ryan Treacy | C Byrnes | Improved from a low-key debut when a distant third at Thurles in February; didn't look like an easy ride when unseating subsequently and has been off 194 days. |
(19) Shantou Princess | | | | | | 5 | | Gavin Cromwell | First reserve; point winner who has shown promise in a couple of bumpers under rules; new yard; off 157 days. |
(3) Ask The Bookie | | | | | | 7 | Daniel King | Gillian Scott | Didn't jump well when a distant fourth at Limerick when last seen but has hit the frame in a couple of maiden hurdles on contrasting ground; rain won't bother him but does have a bit to find and he's been off 241 days. |
(12) Nowwhatdoyouthink | | | | | | 5 | Liam Quinlan | Ray Hackett | Won a point that is working out okay and came on from his rules debut to win Cork bumper in March; tailed off twice since on quicker ground but with rain expected, slower ground may help him get back on track. |
(10) Mr Escobar | | | | | | 6 | Brian Hayes | W P Mullins | 1m4f maiden winner on the Flat; only beaten 7l on hurdle bow at Wexford in July but ran out when 9-2 for a maiden hurdle at Killarney when last seen in this sphere; arrives on the back of a career-best Flat effort when just touched off at Chester from out of the weights; should have more to give back in this sphere but Townend seemingly prefers Stormbreaker. |
(17) Stormbreaker | | | | | | 5 | Paul Townend | W P Mullins | 2m winner on the Flat for James Fanshawe; struggled on yard debut on the level and struggled with his jumping when runner-up on hurdle bow at Downpatrick (2m6f, good); interesting that Townend seemingly prefers him to Mr Escobar though. |
(7) Irish Panther | | | | | | 7 | J J Slevin | E J O'Grady | Hit the frame on each of his three bumper starts and has made an encouraging start to life over obstacles, finishing placed in his three hurdle runs; below his best efforts when a distant second at Killarney when last seen but sets the standard here; off 138 days but should be firmly in the mix again if fit enough. |
Paul Townend is on board Stormbreaker after finishing runner-up on his debut over hurdles last month but it may be worth taking a chance on his stablemate, MR ESCOBAR. He ran out when last seen in this sphere but he shaped with promise on his introduction to hurdles previously and he arrives on the back of a narrow defeat on the Flat from out of the weights. Irish Panther is an obvious danger from the remainder if fit enough to do himself justice after a five-month break. [Phill Anderson]
Race 2: 14:40 Listowel MCG Handicap Hurdle (Listed Race) IRE 2m
(15) Nibiru | | | | | | 9 | Mr B M Coonan | Mrs C O'Leary | No hurdle wins since 2022 and seems to have lost his way since an AW win on the Flat at the start of the year. |
(12) Drumgill | | | | | | 5 | Danny Gilligan | John Patrick Ryan | Rattled off a hat-trick earlier this summer; run came to an end when stepped up in trip at Killarney on his penultimate start and while not beaten far at Kilbeggan three weeks ago, it's possible the handicapper has caught up for now. |
(10) Little Mixup | | | | | | 7 | Mark McDonagh | Denis Gerard Hogan | Gained his fourth handicap hurdle success at Thurles in January and bounced back from a couple of lesser efforts when sixth at Kilbeggan three weeks ago; conditions in his favour but others probably on better marks. |
(13) Set Point | | | | | | 6 | Kevin Sexton | Gordon Elliott | Latest win came on the Flat and he's 10lb higher than his last winning hurdle mark in June 2023; latest effort on the beach at Laytown can be forgiven but didn't show enough on last hurdle start when a distant fourth at Killarney last month. |
(17) Four Clean Aces | | | | | | 6 | Brian Hayes | W P Mullins | Dual hurdle winner who got off the mark over timber at Kilbeggan last month; didn't jump as well in a mares' hurdle at Bellewstown since and might want a drop back in trip. |
(7) Icare Desbois | | | | | | 6 | Sean O'Keeffe | W P Mullins | Maiden hurdle winner at Naas in April and would have followed up in a handicap off 125 without a late unseat; not at the same level in three runs since but rain won't bother him and he's on a fair mark. |
(9) Lord Erskine | | | | | | 11 | Darragh O'Keeffe | H Rogers | Roughly 2l behind Tounsivator in a Galway festival handicap hurdle but struggled back up in trip at that venue last time and this looks like a warm race. |
(8) Sherodan | | | | | | 7 | Sean Flanagan | Peter Fahey | Bumper winner who showed plenty of promise over timber before getting off the mark over hurdles with maiden hurdle success at Ballinrobe last year; only run since came on the Flat last month and that may put him right for this; not obviously well treated on handicap debut but less exposed than most. |
(16) The Dasher Conway | | | | | | 9 | Conor Stone-Walsh | Mrs Gillian Callaghan | Better known as a chaser in recent times but went close from his reduced hurdle mark at Kilbeggan three weeks ago and didn't get a clear run; up 4lb but looks like a major player with Stone-Walsh claiming 5lb. |
(1) Mighty Tom | | | | | | 9 | Jordan Gainford | Cian Collins | No wins since landing a Listed handicap hurdle at Killarney in May 2023, but back to form when fifth in the Galway Hurdle before hitting the crossbar back at Killarney last month; handles most ground and has an each-way shot again. |
(3) Anotherway | | | | | | 5 | Danny Mullins | W P Mullins | No wins since his maiden hurdle success at Punchestown in January; not far behind Eagle Fang at the Punchestown festival but has struggled either side of that run, although may have done too much early in the Galway Hurdle last time. |
(11) Helvic Dream | | | | | | 7 | Sam Ewing | Noel Meade | Made an encouraging start to his hurdle career last season including a maiden hurdle success at Navan; arrives on the back of a good run in a premier handicap at the Curragh earlier this month; unexposed and could easily have more to give from this sort of mark back in this sphere. |
(5) Royal Eagle | | | | | | 6 | Jack Kennedy | Gordon Elliott | Won two handicap hurdles around this time last year; has been running consistently well on the Flat and over timber this year, finishing third in a mares' handicap hurdle at the Galway festival before two placed on the Flat last month; ought to be involved again and she's ground versatile. |
(14) Dark Note | | | | | | 5 | Cian Quirke | Andrew Slattery | Maiden hurdle winner at Sligo last year; beaten 8l when third of nine at Tramore last month on most recent hurdle start; hurdle form this year suggests he's on a tough enough mark at present. |
(6) Man O Work | | | | | | 6 | Cian Cullinan | P G Fahey | Won this race last year from 6lb lower with this jockey claiming 7lb; hasn't been at his best in two handicap hurdles this summer but return to slower ground and a return to this venue could both help. |
(18) Frankendael | | | | | | 5 | Daniel King | E McNamara | Getting better with each run since switching to hurdles for his new yard and got off the mark in a maiden hurdle at Ballinrobe last month; looks like a big player from the bottom of the weights on handicap debut with a less exposed profile than most. |
(4) Risk Belle | | | | | | 5 | Mark Walsh | W P Mullins | Both wins for this yard have come at Fairyhouse, the latest in a Grade 3 in December; some fair runs in defeat since but latest effort in the Galway Hurdle wasn't one of them and others look better treated. |
(2) Tounsivator | | | | | | 5 | Paul Townend | W P Mullins | Narrowly denied in a Galway festival handicap hurdle before gaining compensation in a novice hurdle at Kilbeggan last month, despite meeting some interference; clearly on the up at present and he's the pick of Paul Townend. |
This looks competitive but THE DASHER CONWAY still looks well treated, despite a 4lb rise for an unlucky defeat at Kilbeggan earlier this month and Conor Stone-Walsh's 5lb claim is a bonus. Last year's winner, Man O Work is one to be interested in if the ground becomes testing and Tounsivator looks like the pick of Willie Mullins' quintet. [Phill Anderson]
Race 3: 15:15 Listowel Southampton Goodwill Plate Handicap Hurdle IRE 2m
(17) Fear The Deere | | | | | | 6 | Mr D Doyle | Timothy Doyle | Yet to threaten and well held from 2lb higher at Galway earlier this month. |
(12) Breakintheclouds | | | | | | 5 | Alix Balfe | Patrick Downey | 0-18 and low-key form over timber in four runs so far, including handicap debut latest; likely to need this after 259 days off. |
(18) Younowhatimean | | | | | | 7 | G B Noonan | Eoin Christopher McCarthy | Point-to-point winner who hit the frame at Ballinrobe (2m6f) on his penultimate start but may want a step back up in trip. |
(21) Moulane West | | | | | | 8 | | Mark Michael McNiff | Third reserve; Killarney bumper winner in 2021 but losing run since; best efforts tend to come on good ground. |
(15) Nevermindestranger | | | | | | 7 | Alex Harvey | D M Christie | Point winner; promise under rules last year but hasn't kicked on in handicaps this time around. |
(11) Stormy Jenn | | | | | | 7 | Sam Ewing | P Cluskey | Dual Flat winner who has shown ability over timber and has a workable mark to play with on handicap debut; jumping needs to improve but unexposed and respected here. |
(19) Mr Macphisto | | | | | | 8 | Ricky Doyle | Eoin Griffin | First reserve; won this time last year at Navan; tailed off on back of a 10-month break most recently; feasibly treated. |
(9) Smallcraftwarning | | | | | | 7 | Miss T Quail | Miss Evanna McCutcheon | Off the mark over timber at Thurles in February and bounced back from a lesser run when beaten a short head at Tipperary in May; not as good in two runs since but the drop back in trip could be the answer. |
(2) It'sallabouteve | | | | | | 8 | Mr C J Shine | Brendan Maurice Walsh | Gained first chase win at Tipperary in July but lesser effort at Killarney since when returned to hurdles; type to bounce back and versatile with regards to ground. |
(10) Junot | | | | | | 5 | Darragh O'Keeffe | Michael Winters | Lost the maiden tag at Wexford in May on soft ground and all his best form is with plenty of cut, so two subsequent runs over further on quicker ground are worth forgiving; ought to go well here. |
(20) Kate Ill Know | | | | | | 11 | | David Kenneth Budds | Second reserve; ended losing run with Wexford success two starts ago and only narrowly denied in follow up bid from 6lb higher; clearly thriving and one to consider if she gets in. |
(1) Benjis Benefit | | | | | | 6 | Daniel King | Denis Gerard Hogan | Improved to get off the mark on yard debut at Down Royal in May; however, tailed off when returned to timber last month and might want quicker ground than what is likely here. |
(6) Tipp For Mac | | | | | | 7 | Tom Kelly | Thomas Cooper | 20-race maiden but has been knocking on the door this year and hit the frame again at Sligo last month; should go well if he takes to the first-time blinkers. |
(7) Dreamz | | | | | | 7 | John Shinnick | Terence O'Brien | Only narrowly denied at Ballinrobe on her penultimate run but not as good back there last time; now 0-11 and has been off 122 days. |
(14) Wing Back | | | | | | 4 | Phillip Enright | S Curling | Shown very little in four maiden hurdles so far and has been off 164 days; market support worth noting on handicap debut though. |
(4) Gekkota | | | | | | 8 | Philip Donovan | T J O'Mara | Sole win came in a Limerick maiden hurdle in July 2022 but back to something like his best when third of 20 at Galway earlier this month; up 1lb and may not want the ground too soft; one to consider. |
(5) Erigmoor | | | | | | 6 | Jack Kennedy | Gordon Elliott | 14-race maiden but some good runs over larger obstacles since joining this yard earlier this year; others probably on better marks though. |
(16) Mount Ferns | | | | | | 6 | Sean Flanagan | E McNamara | Runner-up in a Fontwell bumper for Oliver Sherwood last year; signs he might be capable from this sort of mark at Market Rasen when last seen but might be best watched on yard debut returning from 140 days off. |
(3) Impero | | | | | | 5 | Jordan Gainford | Cian Collins | Had not been seen over timber since finishing runner-up in a Galway maiden hurdle nearly two years ago; was below his best on the Flat last month but ran well here on Wednesday back over hurdles and interesting if he's turned out again quickly here. |
(8) Oakley | | | | | | 6 | Danny Mullins | Anthony Mullins | 0-4 over timber but was well-backed ahead of his handicap debut when fifth of 14 at Tipperary in May, putting in an improved performance; might not want the ground too testing; off 135 days. |
A drop in trip on rain-softened ground could be the answer for JUNOT who hasn't been at his best since a Wexford win in May but a slower surface should suit this time. Smallcraftwarning is another that may benefit from dropping in trip and the in-form Kate Ill Know warrants respect if she gets a run. Wednesday's runner-up Impero is worth a look if turned out again quickly. [Phill Anderson]
Race 4: 15:50 Listowel Guinness Handicap Hurdle IRE 2m 6f
(7) Loughrask Rainbow | | | | | | 6 | Sean O'Keeffe | Brian M McMahon | Tried at a variation of trips in maiden hurdles this year to no avail; might improve on his handicap debut but he can't be advised on all known form. |
(12) Doitforjane Sid | | | | | | 8 | Ambrose McCurtin | Donncha Duggan | Showed nothing in point-to-points and well held in a trio of maiden hurdles; impossible to recommend. |
(13) King's Commander | | | | | | 6 | Harry Sexton | John Joseph Hanlon | Won over 1m in Britain three years ago; has shown very little since joining Shark Hanlon, though was supported for handicap hurdle debut at Kilbeggan in July; tailed off on the Flat at Galway; hard to fancy. |
(1) Charlie Buckett | | | | | | 5 | Calum Hogan | E McNamara | Best run when beaten 23l in a Thurles maiden hurdle for Emmet Mullins; well beaten on two starts for this yard; hopes rest on step up in trip on handicap debut but best to look elsewhere. |
(18) Askwell | | | | | | 5 | Daniel King | E McNamara | One of three in the race for Eric McNamara; has shown nothing worthwhile in his career to date, including handicaps the last twice; readily passed over. |
(19) Inch Alainn | | | | | | 5 | Ricky Doyle | W J Burke | First reserve; modest pointer and three maiden hurdle runs don't offer much hope. |
(3) Hurricane Darwin | | | | | | 14 | Philip Donovan | C W J Farrell | Veteran seven-time winner had his first run in over a year when a faller at Kilbeggan in July, not in contention at the time; won at this festival two years ago and is now 9lb lower but it would be some performance to land this at his age. |
(10) Granda George | | | | | | 7 | Tom Harney | Eoin Christopher McCarthy | Runner-up in a point-to-point but made little impact in three maiden hurdles to date; entitled to improve up in trip on handicap debut and stable targets this festival so monitor the market. |
(21) Father Jed | | | | | | 13 | Danny Mullins | John Patrick Ryan | Third reserve; won at this festival in 2021 but is now a 13yo and he has struggled to find his feet all summer. |
(20) Another Nightmare | | | | | | 6 | | John Joseph Hanlon | Second reserve; hasn't done much since winning over 3m at this festival last year but she's 1lb lower; first-time cheekpieces. |
(16) Mother Ship | | | | | | 4 | Jordan Gainford | John Joseph Hanlon | Fourth in maidens three times, including over 2m5f at Tramore last month when beaten 6l; met some trouble in running too that day and has an each-way squeak on her handicap debut. |
(15) Jewelinthesky | | | | | | 8 | Tiernan Power Roche | Eoin Christopher McCarthy | Yet to trouble the judge but ran well in first-time cheekpieces when fourth of 14 over 2m4f at Killarney; that was her first run in nearly a year so she's respected for a yard who enjoy a winner at this festival. |
(17) Oskar High | | | | | | 12 | Shane O'Callaghan | Norman Lee | Bounced back to form from out of the blue when making all at Galway over this trip this month; now a 12yo, you couldn't be confident about him repeating those heroics up 5lb. |
(2) I Am Rocco | | | | | | 7 | Mr E Mahon | Brian M McMahon | Fair run when third of five in tougher company at Ballinrobe over 3m2f last month; no match for the winner but ran on strongly to finish second there over this trip last time; respected but will have to weave his way through traffic. |
(4) Its Not Over Yet | | | | | | 5 | Phillip Enright | Oliver McKiernan | Improved since sent handicapping and the longer trip brought the best out of her when winning at Tipperary (3m, yielding) in July; she needed every yard that day so the drop in trip is a worry, but she is lightly raced for her age. |
(5) Spavango | | | | | | 5 | G B Noonan | Eoin Christopher McCarthy | Best effort when fourth on handicap debut at Limerick (2m, heavy) in March, nearest at the finish; ran too freely when last seen there but the step up in trip should help. |
(8) Ranger Billy | | | | | | 8 | Hugh Morgan | Eoin Doyle | Pulled up on return at Wexford in May but ran with credit when beaten 5l at Tipperary over 3m in July and improved again when runner-up at Ballinrobe when last seen; 8lb above last winning mark but he should go well. |
(6) Letters To Juliet | | | | | | 6 | Patrick M O'Brien | Patrick Downey | Ran a career-best in first-time hood and tongue-tie combination when third behind an impressive winner at Bellewstown last month; would have finished second but for pecking badly at the last, nearly unseating her rider; contender. |
(9) Dream Once More | | | | | | 5 | Shane Fitzgerald | Declan Queally | Well held in first two handicaps but was an eyecatcher when third over 2m4f at Wexford in May; caught the eye again when third behind the progressive Chutzpal over 2m1f at that track when last seen and must enter calculations up in trip. |
(11) West Clare | | | | | | 7 | Richard Deegan | Brian M McMahon | Eyectching fifth over 2m1f at Cork in July but he's related to stayers and was only beaten half a length on his first try at this sort of trip at Galway this month, closing all the way to the line; 2lb higher and should run well. |
(14) Hees Dynamite | | | | | | 6 | Sean Flanagan | E McNamara | Holds every chance judged on his latest second over this trip at Galway, possibly sent for home too soon, well clear three out but collared going up the hill; this track should suit his front-running style of racing and he's only 1lb higher; big chance. |
In a wide-open handicap, a chance is taken on HEES DYNAMITE, who probably hit the front too soon when runner-up over this trip at Galway this month. He's only gone up 1lb and a sharp track should suit his style of racing. West Clare relished the step up to this trip last time and will win a race very soon, while Letters To Juliet caught the eye behind an impressive winner at Bellewstown last time and is also worth considering. [Adrian Wall]
Race 5: 16:25 Listowel Paud, Sarah & Mary Fitzmaurice Memorial Handicap Chase IRE 2m 3f 100y
(19) Essential Part | | | | | | 6 | | Adrian Sexton | First reserve; 27-race maiden; tailed off over hurdles this month and best watched on chase debut; 1lb wrong. |
(13) Glentruan | | | | | | 9 | J J Slevin | Michael Flannery | Record of 2-19 over hurdles but hasn't won since 2021; hasn't shown enough in four starts for this stable to be worthy of consideration back over fences but J J Slevin is a notable jockey booking. |
(14) Coole Arcade | | | | | | 10 | Tom Kelly | Charles Coakley | Last success came over 2m in 2022 when trained by Henry de Bromhead; mildly encouraging return when a remote fourth at Tramore over 2m6f last month but tailed off at Killarney since; best watched. |
(8) Mc Alpine | | | | | | 10 | Tiernan Power Roche | P J Rothwell | Dual hurdle winner, including at this festival in the past, but hasn't won a race since winning a handicap hurdle at Cheltenham's November meeting in 2021; currently 0-11 over fences and it's better to look elsewhere. |
(21) Cottage Artist | | | | | | 11 | | V T O'Brien | Third reserve; veteran who is yet to find the winner's enclosure; well beaten at Ballinrobe latest; 2lb wrong; opposable. |
(18) Knocknaconnery | | | | | | 8 | Cian Quirke | S Curling | Moderate hurdler has been beaten out of sight in two starts over fences to date; makes handicap debut in this sphere; first-time blinkers; readily passed over. |
(12) Inchidaly Copper | | | | | | 8 | Mr L Burke-Ott | Alexander Ott | Got off the mark over fences when winning comfortably over 2m6f at Tramore in August; ran well from 9lb higher when fourth of 15 at Wexford since over 3m1f but didn't see out the trip when holding every chance; claims back down in distance. |
(16) A Nod To Getaway | | | | | | 7 | Darragh O'Keeffe | Paul O'Flynn | Won a 2m1f Wexford handicap hurdle (soft) on return from a break in May; not as effective in handicap chases until second over 2m5f at Killarney (yielding) in August; disappointed over hurdles since; return to chasing should suit. |
(10) Kilashee | | | | | | 9 | Shane Fitzgerald | John Patrick Ryan | Front-running mare had a good summer, winning four times (hurdling and chasing); she won at this festival in 2021 and was well clear at Kilbeggan when unseating her rider at the third fence when last seen; dangerous if allowed to dictate. |
(3) Our Bobby | | | | | | 7 | E Walsh | John M Burke | Won over this sort of trip here over hurdles in June; justified favouritism when off the mark over fences at Wexford in July; struggled off 6lb higher there last time; will be ridden with restraint so would appreciate a good pace to aim at. |
(5) Just Three | | | | | | 7 | Danny Gilligan | Paul John Gilligan | Ran respectably in a couple of beginners' chases and was well-backed for his handicap debut over fences at Galway this month; the rider lost his irons after a poor jump and he was pulled up; worth another chance. |
(15) Everystep Oftheway | | | | | | 6 | Phillip Enright | Oliver McKiernan | Still a maiden but has finished in the frame several times between hurdles and fences; ran an eyecatching fourth when beaten 5l over 3m1f at Kilbeggan over hurdles on penultimate start; won't hang about on the front end and is still a young chaser; every chance. |
(17) The Eye Of Tulla | | | | | | 8 | G B Noonan | Brian M McMahon | Out of form since returning this year, but he was backed from 33-1 into 6-1 at Ballinrobe last time only to be brought down at the first fence; worth monitoring in the betting again but he might prefer going right-handed. |
(2) Temptationinmilan | | | | | | 8 | Philip Byrnes | C Byrnes | Won this race two years ago; last success was in a 3m handicap chase at Navan in February 2023 off a mark of 112; now 4lb lower but has to improve on this season's efforts to figure; dangerous yard so watch the betting. |
(9) Marelly | | | | | | 7 | James O'Sullivan | P J Rothwell | Won back-to-back over hurdles in 2022 for Eoin McCarthy; now 0-8 over fences since joining this yard, well beaten each time; passed over this time. |
(7) Cahirdown Boy | | | | | | 9 | Sean Flanagan | E McNamara | Dual winner over hurdles who is 0-12 over larger obstacles, but he came back from a lengthy absence to go close when runner-up at Ballinrobe (2m1f, good to yielding) this month; he can be expected to improve and has a leading chance. |
(20) Likable Chancer | | | | | | 10 | | Daniel John Howard | Second reserve; took advantage of a falling mark when bolting up over further at Ballinrobe this month; 2lb wrong. |
(1) Joyeux Vivo | | | | | | 5 | Mark Walsh | John E & Thomas Kiely | Still a maiden under rules; placed in a pair of handicap hurdles this year but was well beaten in three chase starts; handicap debut in this sphere and the market will guide given his connections. |
(6) Loup De Tallane | | | | | | 8 | Ricky Doyle | Eoin Griffin | Bounced back to form when winning at Kilbeggan (2m3f, yielding) over hurdles this month after a series of luckless efforts; runs from an 8lb higher mark on chasing debut without the assistance of a 7lb claimer so life is much tougher. |
(4) Farrokh | | | | | | 5 | Michael O'Sullivan | Barry Connell | Handicap hurdle winner over 2m has run well in defeat in five of his six chase starts, including when second at Wexford over this trip last time; up 2lb for that effort but is one of the likely pace angles and he should run his race again. |
(11) Gaelic Des Chastys | | | | | | 8 | Daniel King | E McNamara | Won a Punchestown handicap hurdle on first start for this yard in June; runner-up in two handicaps over fences since, and jumped the last in front over 2m6f at Roscommon latest with the pair pulling well clear; drop in trip a help. |
With plenty of pace up front assured thanks to the tearaway Kilashee, the patiently-ridden Our Bobby could be waiting in the wings on the turn for home, but EVERYSTEP OFTHEWAY should get a lovely toe into the race as he sits in behind the likely front-runner. He's lightly raced over fences and has plenty of scope for improvement. Others to note are the Eric McNamara-trained pair Gaelic Des Chastys and Cahirdown Boy in an open contest. [Adrian Wall]

(12) Sawbuck | | | | | | 6 | Mr J H Williamson | Gearoid O'Loughlin | Hurdle winner is 0-5 on the Flat; hasn't been seen since a decent effort at Cheltenham when 7l behind Pied Piper; starts out for new yard after long absence and has questions to answer on testing ground. |
(11) Red Striker | | | | | | 9 | Ms M Barcoe | James M Barcoe | Dual-purpose; 1-12 on the Flat; beaten off marks in the high 80s over hurdles since moving to current yard; will appreciate the return to softer ground and should strip fitter for latest run but this looks a tough task. |
(16) Betty Dutton | | | | | | 6 | | E J O'Grady | First reserve; dual purpose; 1-18 over hurdles and rated 100 in that discipline; beaten 18.5l on Flat debut at Tramore last month; prefers good ground and up against it in this company. |
(17) Kottayam | | | | | | 9 | Mr S P Queally | John Queally | Second reserve; has won twice on good ground on the Flat; beaten 10l off 57 on latest at Clonmel (16.5f, good); this looks too big an ask and she is easily passed over. |
(18) Indulging | | | | | | 6 | Mr R M McParland | T M Walsh | Third Reserve; rated 50 on the Flat and 85 over timber; 0-24 in both codes; looks an unlikely winner in a race of this nature. |
(5) D Art D Art | | | | | | 5 | Mr R Sugrue | Thomas Cooper | Cork maiden hurdle winner in January on bad ground; rated 119 over timber and makes Flat debut after a 150 day absence since a below par effort at Punchestown; others look more likely. |
(7) Elusive Guy | | | | | | 6 | Miss A Fahey | Jarlath P Fahey | Yard in fine form; sent off the 9/2 fav for a C&D handicap off 66 earlier this week but trailed in 9l behind the winner; ground may have been too lively for him and softer conditions will suit better but this looks a big ask on the figures. |
(6) Dancing Jeremy | | | | | | 9 | Miss H Heffernan | James Andrew Fahey | Four-time winner over jumps; in fine form over hurdles and fences before summer break; now makes Flat debut and while he will enjoy the likely testing conditions, he is probably best watched in this company; he has gone well fresh before though so check the market. |
(8) Garrybello | | | | | | 6 | Mr Finian Maguire | Thomas Cooper | Has won twice over hurdles, both in France on testing ground; shaped with promise on both Flat starts at Dundalk last November and December; not without a place chance if fit after a 137 day absence with conditions to suit. |
(2) Anyway | | | | | | 6 | Mr D Doyle | David Kenneth Budds | Is 3-12 over hurdles; won easily at Killarney over timber last month off 116 (22.5f, good); now rated 135 in that sphere but all three of his wins have come on good ground so soft conditions would be a big concern; not discounted if the ground dries out. |
(14) Cast A Spell | | | | | | 6 | Mr A P Ryan | T Hogan | Dual-purpose; in fine form on the Flat this summer; rating of 74 leaves her with a good bit to find but she ran a blinder in a decent Galway maiden on her last start and that form looks solid; testing ground is fine and she holds each-way claims. |
(9) Karl Des Tourelles | | | | | | 4 | Mr J P O'Neill | Philip Fenton | Talented hurdler; rated 133 in that sphere and was runner up in a Grade 2 at Fairyhouse on soft to heavy ground in April; absent since not getting home in a 19.5f Auteuil Grade 1 in May; makes Flat debut and if he is fit after his break he can't be discounted. |
(3) Ascending | | | | | | 5 | Mr A Jones | Henry De Bromhead | Dual purpose; 1-9 on the Flat and rated 82 but not seen in this sphere for over 700 days; pulled up when last sighted over hurdles at Punchestown back in May; has ability but is probably best watched for now. |
(4) Cougar | | | | | | 5 | Mr Derek O'Connor | Padraig Roche | Has shown nothing since completing a hat-trick over hurdles and on the Flat back in 2022; beaten 52l on latest hurdle start at Bellewstown last month; 14l behind the winner on last Flat start at the Curragh; top rider in the plate but a big leap of faith required; needs a revival. |
(10) Omniscient | | | | | | 5 | Mr J M Halford | Gordon Elliott | Dual-purpose; has won twice on the Flat; most of his best form is on good ground but he has run ok on soft; rated as high as 95 when with Sir Mark Prescott and his jumping has let him down for his current yard; could go well returned to the Flat but would probably prefer a sounder surface. |
(13) Weston | | | | | | 5 | Mr J L Gleeson | H Rogers | A 95 rated ex-German performer; has won on soft; best effort for Gordon Elliott came in the Ascot Stakes last year; fine effort on debut for current yard when beaten just 1.25l at Navan (1m6f, yielding) off 96; hampered early on latest at Galway; the one to beat if repeating his Navan run on these terms; cheekpieces go on. |
(1) Seddon | | | | | | 11 | Mr Finn Buckley | John C McConnell | Admirable dual-purpose veteran has been a grand servant for connections; Cheltenham and Punchestown festival hero off the mark on second start in this sphere on latest at Killarney (2m1f, yielding to soft); drops in trip here, which is a slight concern, but he should run another solid race. |
(15) Jetara | | | | | | 6 | Mr H C Swan | Mrs John Harrington | Very classy mare over hurdles (rated 145); found just Ballyburn too good on latest start in a Grade 1 novice hurdle at Punchestown; handles all sorts of ground; makes her Flat debut after a 147 day absence and it would be dangerous to write off a horse of her ability; if she is fully fit she should go close. |
Plenty with chances here. Seddon has been a star for connections and he should go well, as should Omniscient. Jetara is a classy hurdler and will handle the testing ground and she can't be discounted if fit for her Flat debut but slight preference is for the top rated WESTON (nap). He had an excuse last time at Galway, he has won on soft ground and a repeat of his Navan effort in May could be enough to win this. Karl Des Tourelles and Garrybello have outside place claims at bigger odds. [Dave Stephens]

(19) Midnight Eagle | | | | | | 4 | | Aengus King | First reserve; tailed off completely on debut at Sligo; has no chance judged on that effort. |
(8) Slice Of Paradise | | | | | | 5 | Mr F P Murphy | Brendan Oliver Walsh | Cost 21,000euros; eleventh foal; half-sister to winners Champagne Mist (2m4f hurdle) and She'stherightone (2m1f-3m hurdle); dam unraced half-sister to bumper and 2m6f/3m hurdle winner Valentines Lady (dam of high-class chaser Edwulf); pulled up on sole point-to-point start. |
(7) Scarlet Purse | | | | | | 5 | Miss T Quail | S Curling | Half-sister to five winners including Fennor Cross but was well beaten behind a couple of these at Galway on debut; best watched this time. |
(14) Dunbell Diva | | | | | | 4 | Harry Sexton | John Joseph Hanlon | Fourth foal; dam unraced sister to smart bumper/2m4f-3m hurdle/chase winner Champagne Classic, out of unraced half-sister to bumper/2m hurdle winner Tupenny Cody and 2m1f/2m3f chase winner Waltons Mountain; stable modest strike-rate in bumpers. |
(17) Sallap | | | | | | 4 | Mr J C Canavan | S Curling | Second foal; dam runner-up in bumper/2m-2m3f hurdles, half-sister to 2m hurdle winner Sole Bonne Femme, is granddaughter of bumper winner; respected connections but would need to see market support to be considered. |
(15) Lady Hotham | | | | | | 4 | Miss A B O'Connor | Anthony McCann | Cost 30,000gns as a yearling; eighth foal; half-sister to four Flat winners inc' Open Wide (5f-6f including 2yo/AW; RPR 104), Katimavik (7f-1m; 90) and Fast Skarmish (Polish 6f 2yo/1m1f); dam unraced half-sister to 1m4f Group 2 winner Irresistible Jewel out of 1m4f-1m6f winner; rare runner here for the yard who are 9-71 in Irish bumpers. |
(20) Jazzwing | | | | | | 6 | | Peter Fahey | Second reserve; promising debut in a Kilbeggan bumper last summer but well held in two outings this year; best watched. |
(1) Belle Le Grand | | | | | | 5 | Mr J W Hendrick | Yvonne Latta | Ability when placed on point-to-point debut; fell on second start in that sphere; closing fourth of 13 in a Tramore bumper on rules debut; place claims. |
(9) A New Deck | | | | | | 4 | Mr J H Williamson | S Curling | By a top sire and respected connections but could only muster up a remote fourth of eight at Ballinrobe on soft ground on debut; watching brief. |
(5) Light Her Up | | | | | | 6 | Mr Finn Tegetmeier | Hugh Paul Finegan | Unseated in a point-to-point; behind the reopposing Amboyna when a remote third behind the talented Ellen Kelly at Killarney in July; respectable fourth of 13 at Wexford since but needs to improve to figure. |
(6) Minimongous | | | | | | 5 | Mr O T Gilligan | Paul John Gilligan | Didn't show much in point-to-points; left Emmet Mullins after remote seventh on debut at Tramore (got loose beforehand); better effort when fifth at Galway but was behind Dancing Dame; more needed. |
(2) Dancing Dame | | | | | | 5 | Mr D Doyle | Timothy Doyle | Placed in a pair of bumpers last year, including at this festival; poor effort at Galway on return before a decent fourth in a mares' bumper at that venue latest; needs to improve but has course form. |
(18) Time In A Bottle | | | | | | 4 | Mr D T Hyde | Henry De Bromhead | Behind Pure Logic over C&D on debut; improved when second at Killarney next time; weakened late on when a remote third at Ballinrobe latest; more needed. |
(13) Clongorey | | | | | | 4 | Mr H C Swan | Gordon Elliott | Ran green when fourth at Wexford over hurdles on debut but four subequent winners have come out of the race; nowhere near that level when well beaten at Downpatrick but she can play a leading role if she can reproduce her debut form at this level. |
(4) Grainne A Chroi | | | | | | 5 | Mr E P O'Brien | Miss M Harding | Maiden point-to-point winner at Kildorrery; shaped well when placed in a pair of bumpers at Cork and Limerick in April; should go well on the ground and is respected. |
(12) Carrigmoornaspruce | | | | | | 4 | Declan Queally | Declan Queally | Third foal; half-sister to bumper/2m4f hurdle winner Carrigmoorna Queen; unraced dam closely related to useful winners Carrigmorna King (2m2f-2m5f jumps) and Carrigmoorna Rock (bumper/2m-2m4f jumps), half-sister to high-class chaser Shantou Flyer; market will guide. |
(3) Emily's Light | | | | | | 5 | Mr E Finegan | Gavin Cromwell | Seventh foal; half-sister to winners French Light (point and useful 2m/2m3f hurdle) and True Light (bumper); dam placed 6f-8.7f in Germany, sister to German 7f Listed winner Fairlight (dam of high-class 2m jumper Twinlight); stable 35-253 in Irish bumpers; good opportunity. |
(16) Pure Logic | | | | | | 4 | Mr Finian Maguire | John Joseph Hanlon | Runner-up first three starts, including over C&D on debut; excellent second behind The Passing Wife at Galway last month but disappointed when sent off odds-on at Killarney; likely front-runner should hold every chance. |
(10) Amboyna | | | | | | 4 | Mr J L Gleeson | John E & Thomas Kiely | No disgrace when bumping into a pair of Willie Mullins-trained runners at Killarney and Wexford; could be vulnerable again but she sets a decent standard; each-way possibilities again. |
(11) Amen Kate | | | | | | 4 | Mr P W Mullins | Thomas Cooper | Cost 75,000euros as a 3yo; second foal; half-sister to Listed bumper winner Baby Kate; dam smart bumper and 2m4f/2m7f hurdle winner, out of unbeaten bumper and high-class 2m hurdle winner Feathard Lady; local trainer can ready one and Patrick Mullins an eyecatching booking (entered 5.45 Listowel on Thursday). |
Of those with experience, Amboyna, Pure Logic and Clongorey all set a decent standard but they will be vulnerable to a decent newcomer. The most likely debutante is Gavin Cromwell's EMILY'S LIGHT, who is related to plenty of winners and the stable do well in this sphere. [Adrian Wall]
