2nd (2) Flamenco Bay
2Kyle StrydomDavid MenuisierInteresting to see how this 115,000euros yearling goes in the betting on today's second start (one of two for yard); however, he was tailed off at 20-1 at Kempton (1m, AW) last month and a transformation is needed.
6th (1) Commander Flavius
2Alec VoikhanskyRichard HannonHalf-brother to three winners and has shown some ability, but yet to threaten across his two runs (7f, good/AW) and improvement is needed.
4th (4) Nelson Gate
2Rhys ClutterbuckGary & Josh Moore45,000gns foal, 80,000gns yearling; fifth foal; Australia half-brother to 7.7f heavy-ground winner Dumb Love (RPR 80); dam 1m AW winner (76); likely to improve for this debut outing but not ruled out.
3rd (5) Novelista
2Billy LoughnaneCharlie Johnston65,000euros yearling; fifth foal; Lope De Vega half-brother to winners Katara (1m3f/1m4f including Listed) and Migdam (1m/1m2f including 2yo; RPR 101); dam Group-placed 1m-1m4f winner (including 2yo; 104); there's plenty to like on paper and he could play a leading role on debut.
5th (3) Karaway
2Oisin MurphyDavid MenuisierThird foal; brother to French 7f turf 2yo/7.5f AW winner Galishko (RPR 90), who is effective on heavy ground; dam from talented family; one of two for the stable; no surprise to see a good run on debut.
1st (6) Sing Us A Song
2Hector CrouchRalph BeckettBuilt upon debut fifth at Newmarket (7f, good) in July when keeping on for close third at Newbury (1m, good) last month; this brother to 12.5f heavy-ground Listed winner Sir Erec could continue to progress now upped in distance and he's a strong contender.

Having kept on for a close third at Newbury last month, SING US A SONG can get off the mark at the third attempt. One of the newcomers may pose the main threat, with Novelista in particular bred to have a bright future.[Ben Hutton]

(5) Love De Vega
5Kevin StottCharlie JohnstonInconsistent and down the field at Ripon last time, but he won at Pontefract (1m, good) in July and went close at Windsor (1m, good to firm) last month; has won on soft ground and he's not discounted.
3rd (1) Naxos
4Billy LoughnaneGeorge BougheyMade all in good style at Epsom (1m2f, good) last October on last British start; however, he wasn't at the same level at Meydan early this year and has been absent since; unraced on ground slower than good; wears a first-time tongue-tie; others have less to prove.
4th (2) Hafeet Alain
8Tom MarquandEd WalkerWon on reappearance at Newmarket (1m, good) in April and returned from a break with pretty good fourth at Ascot (1m, soft) this month; went very close in this race last year (soft) and is entitled to respect.
(6) Leadman
4Oisin MurphyAndrew Balding0-6 (odds-on four times) but has often run well, including when close fourth at Sandown (7f, soft) on recent handicap debut; there's every chance he'll be fine now back up to 1m; could again be thereabouts.
(7) Magic Memories
4David EganGary & Josh MooreNot beaten far when sixth of nine over C&D (good to soft) last month following a 50-day break; could build on that performance now back on deeper ground (his wins have come on soft going) and he's on the shortlist.
1st (3) Rhoscolyn
6Daniel TudhopeDavid O'MearaPlenty to prove regarding current form having posted duck eggs on his last four starts (here the last twice); however, he's off the same mark as when winning at Epsom (7f, good to soft) in May and he's won here four times (soft/heavy; including this last year); no surprise if he plays leading role.
2nd (4) Thunder Ball
4Sean D BowenPaul & Oliver ColeWon over C&D (soft) last October and he's 4lb lower than when a good fourth in the Spring Cup at Newbury (1m, good to soft) in April; well beaten the next twice but a break may have helped and he could bounce back with a big performance at a track that suits him.

Testing ground at Goodwood has often brought out the best in RHOSCOLYN and he is taken to return to form and win back-to-back runnings of this race. Soft-ground C&D winner Thunder Ball is on a handy mark and is second choice, coming back from a break, while last year's runner-up Hafeet Alain and Magic Memories are also respected.[Ben Hutton]

(8) Roman Emperor
3Christian HowarthJohn RyanWell handicapped on last winter's AW form; out of sorts on turf this summer though and the return to AW didn't help at Chelmsford last week; lots to prove and the addition of a tongue-tie isn't enough to tempt.
(4) Watchya
5Nicola CurrieGeorge BakerProminent racer; ran well for second at Epsom in July (6f, good to soft); less convincing in his two starts since and plenty to prove on this ground; cheekpieces now tried.
1st (3) Solar Aclaim
3Faleh BughenaimHamad Al JehaniPromising 2yo for Roger Teal, winning novice events at Salisbury (6f, good to soft) and Windsor (5f, heavy); 0-8 for current stable though and hopes rest on the return to testing ground sparking a full revival.
4th (6) Capote's Dream
7Tom MarquandTom WardEffective over C&D and the ground is unlikely to be as testing as when he finished second in last year's Stewards' Cup consolation; ran well at Newbury on his penultimate start but Salisbury last time was a tepid display; others look stronger for win purposes.
(7) Five Winds
4Oisin MurphyJack JonesHer stamina was stretched by Newcastle's stiff 7f last week but before that she'd been in good order over 6f, including a soft-ground win in June; this is a better race than she's used to and she is opposable, even with Oisin Murphy booked.
2nd (9) Land Of Magic
3Gina ManganRachel Cook & John BridgerHas course form, handles bad ground and comes here on the back of a front-running success at Salisbury 12 days ago (6f, good to soft); a 4lb rise against stronger opposition could be enough to find her out though.
(2) Danger Alert
4Pat CosgraveGeorge BakerReturn to soft ground saw a revival in his fortunes when second of seven at Sandown 12 days ago (5f; cheekpieces first time); up 3lb still has lots of handicapping scope on 2023 best; return to 6f won't hurt either.
3rd (5) Huddle Up
6George WoodJack JonesHas the talent to win at this level and he's turned in three solid runs for his new stable, most recently second of 12 at Yarmouth last week; that was on fast ground but he's fully effective on soft and heavy; should go well once more.
(1) Tiriac
4David ProbertJack ChannonTwo wins in May, beating 20 rivals at York on the second occasion; progress has cooled a bit more recently but his latest Salisbury run, where he pulled hard off a slow pace, offered hope that he was still in top form; fine record on heavy ground and Monday's rain will have been welcomed; strong claims of going one better than last year.

Danger Alert (second choice) still has considerable handicapping scope despite a 3lb rise for his latest Sandown second and he's a major player back at 6f. Huddle Up is quirky but capable and he won't mind the return to testing ground but TIRIAC, picked off late on in this race 12 months ago, can go one better under conditions he will relish.[Paul Smith]

(2) Cemhaan
7Callum ShepherdGeorge BakerFront-runner who won good handicap at Kempton (1m3f, AW) in April before creditable third in Group 3 at Newbury (1m4f, good); has won on soft ground; however, he needs to bounce back from lesser performances in Listed and Group 3 races the last twice.
(9) Persist
5Pat CosgraveGeorge BougheyRan respectably when fourth in this race last year (soft) but that seems a true reflection of her best ability and others make greater appeal.
(10) Terre De Vega
3Tom MarquandWilliam HaggasRan twice in France last year, winning on the first occasion (7.5f, good); clear with the very talented Thunder Run when runner-up on stable debut at Hamilton (8.3f, good) in July, and this unexposed 3yo is open to improvement now up in distance, but a sizeable step forward is needed.
(3) Maxi King
4David EganRaphael E FreireCompleted hat-trick in Newmarket handicap (1m4f, good) in May, with the first two legs coming on heavy ground; however, he has something to find in this field and hasn't been at his best the last twice.
(5) Savvy Victory
5Daniel TudhopeS WoodsListed winner at Sandown (1m2f, good) in July 2023 and runner-up in that same race this year (good); also effective on soft ground; however, below par the last twice and needs to bounce back with a career best today.
(6) Heartache Tonight
4Hector CrouchDavid MenuisierBelow her best on both runs this season but those were on good and good to firm ground; last season she finished a close fourth in the Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary at Longchamp (1m2f, very soft) in May and conditions are set to be right up her street this afternoon; she's one to consider.
4th (4) Passion And Glory
8Oisin MurphySaeed bin Suroor8yo who was back to his very best when defying joint top weight in Ascot handicap (1m4f, good) in July last time out; won a 1m4f Group 3 here (good to soft) in 2021 and also won on heavy ground very early in career; major player if reproducing his latest form.
1st (8) Novus
4Rhys ClutterbuckGary & Josh MooreWon two handicaps here (7f/1m, soft) last season before winning the Group 3 Pride Stakes at Newmarket (1m2f, soft); below best on last few starts, most recently fourth in Group 3 at Windsor (1m2f, soft), but she has an excellent record here and could have a big part to play; tongue-tie added.
3rd (7) Macduff
3Ryan MooreRalph BeckettKicked off campaign with Group 3 second in the Classic Trial at Sandown (1m2f, good to soft; unraced on soft); no threat since in the Derby or at Royal Ascot and improvement is needed, but he returns to action having been gelded and wearing first-time blinkers, and this 3yo is not ruled out.
2nd (1) Botanical
4Billy LoughnaneGeorge BougheyHas shown strong form in competitive handicaps at York (1m2f, good/good to soft) this season, finishing second off top weight in the John Smith's Cup on final run for Roger Varian; won on soft ground last October and he's a leading contender on stable debut (same owner); tongue-tie added.

Goodwood and testing conditions bring out the best in NOVUS (nap) and she is the selection ahead of the progressive handicapper Botanical. The return to deep ground should be ideal for Heartache Tonight and she is next on the list, while Passion And Glory could also have a part to play.[Ben Hutton]

(10) Queue Dos
2Tom MarquandJ S MooreConsistency rewarded with narrow success in first-time cheekpieces on the AW (6f maiden) three weeks ago; entitled to win that and it would be a surprise should she threaten to follow up on these terms.
(11) Dollyana
2Lewis EdmundsWilliam Muir & Chris GrassickFfos Las winner in June (7.5f, good) but limitations ruthlessly exposed in Listed/nursery company since; these terms look too tough.
(4) Dolce Vitta
2Hector CrouchEve Johnson HoughtonWon on slow and fast ground over 6f for George Boughey; probably her best run when second to the favourite in a 7f AW nursery last time but this demands plenty more from her.
(5) Naina
2Christian HowarthJohn RyanMaiden, seller and nursery winner; going the right way and should cope with the ground, but she'd be getting a lot of weight from a few of these in a nursery.
(12) Fleetwater
2David ProbertJ S MooreAll runs over 6f, third on good to soft first time out; then won at Windsor before being outpointed by Miss Nightfall back there three weeks ago, again on good to firm; may struggle to reverse those placings when the winner has improved since.
(14) Manila Thriller
2Edward GreatrexJack ChannonHas done well since sole success in a Chester seller (7f, good) and was 200-1 when well beaten in a Group race at Doncaster last time; still looks opposable in this company, for all that she could be okay on the ground (has run well here on soft).
(1) Griselda
2Callum ShepherdGeorge ScottCompleted a hat-trick in nurseries (6f, good to soft/good to firm) during July and even better form when coming from off the pace to be close up in a nursery over slightly shorter at Doncaster 13 days ago; however, these terms aren't that favourable and the ground is a concern.
4th (6) Glamis Road
2Kevin StottOllie SangsterBought for £30,000 at a breeze-up in April; there were some useful horses behind her when making a successful start at Doncaster in June (7f, good to firm); very different conditions here but she's unexposed.
(13) Pink Diesel
2Billy LoughnaneGeorge BougheySimilar RPRs in all her runs, winning at Chelmsford in between two thirds on turf (good ground); others have achieved appreciably more.
3rd (7) Shes Perfect
2Kieran ShoemarkCharlie Fellowes50,000euros breeze-up 2yo; one of the favourites when prevailing in a tight finish at Haydock in early August (7f, good to firm); that wasn't a strong race and this demands a lot more from her but she's unexposed.
1st (8) Love Talk
2Sam JamesGrant TuerHighly tried since her successful debut on soft ground at Redcar but has fared okay in those Listed/Group assignments and sights are lowered this time; should be fine on the ground and that could count for a lot.
(3) Betty Clover
2Georgia DobieEve Johnson HoughtonHer standout run is the neck defeat in a Group 3 at Ascot in July (6f, good to firm), after which she ran in the Lowther; slowly away and had to be switched when a never-dangerous fourth in Group 3 at Salisbury last time (good to soft; also runner-up on soft); has leading form claims and 7f promises to suit her well.
2nd (9) Miss Nightfall
2Oisin MurphyJames FanshaweWindsor winner (6f) who didn't go unbacked when a much improved third of 20 in a sales race over Doncaster's extended 6f two weeks ago; unraced on ground softer than good but plenty to like otherwise given her progressive profile.

A lot could depend on which fillies cope best with the ground. BETTY CLOVER has at least coped with soft going and brings compelling form credentials in a race of this nature, having held her own in Group company. Today's ground conditions are an unknown for Miss Nightfall but she's nicely progressive and feared most. Love Talk is preferred of the others.[Alistair Jones]

4th (4) Plus Point
4George WoodHarry EustaceWon twice on soft ground last season and back on the scoresheet at Doncaster (14.5f, good) this June; however, hasn't kicked on from that on either start since and needs something extra today.
(5) Divine Presence
3Tyler HeardJohn & Thady GosdenWon on handicap debut at Wolverhampton (1m4f, AW) in June; fair efforts in cheekpieces the next twice (13.2f/11.6f, good); improvement is needed today but this 3yo is in top hands and is not ruled out now in blinkers; unraced on slow ground; dam was a Listed winner on soft going.
2nd (3) Crystal Flyer
3Ryan MooreTom WardRunner-up at Ascot (1m4f, good to soft) in July on second handicap start and then went one better here (1m4f, good); 2-2 at Goodwood and this 3yo half-sister to Chester Cup winner Zoffee could have more to offer now up in trip, provided she handles conditions (unraced on soft/heavy ground).
3rd (1) Coco Royale
4Tom MarquandWilliam HaggasLightly raced 4yo who made it three wins from her last four starts when scoring comfortably at Kempton (2m, AW) last time; has won twice on soft ground and her trainer has won four of the last eight runnings of this race; a 7lb rise for last time may not stop her today.
1st (2) Entrancement
4Oisin MurphyDavid MenuisierWon on heavy ground over 1m2f here in May 2023 and runner-up on four of her eight subsequent starts, most recently behind Crystal Flyer here (1m4f, good) last month; tackles a new trip today but there's every chance it will be within range and she's one to consider with conditions to suit.

The thriving 4yo COCO ROYALE is taken to make it four wins from her last five starts. Entrancement is also at home on testing ground and is second choice ahead of the progressive 3yo Crystal Flyer.[Ben Hutton]

4th (8) Uncle Dick
6Oliver CarmichaelEve Johnson HoughtonAll seven turf wins over 1m at Brighton on ground ranging from soft to good to firm; hasn't been far away in two course runs earlier in career but a career-high mark gives him something to think about.
(5) Winter Reprise
7Tom MarquandDavid MenuisierFormerly very useful on testing going but he's been on the big dipper since returning from an absence and hasn't been able to repeat a good third of 14 at Newbury (1m2f, good) in May in two subsequent runs for Alan King and one back with former yard; at least no ifs or buts about heavy ground.
(7) Hieronymus
8Nicola CurrieGeorge BakerBest run for a while on AW recently but despite a lower turf mark it's nearly a year since he ran well on turf and he remains stubbornly winless on it (0-22); others are more likely stayers as well.
(2) Bet Me
4Billy LoughnaneGeorge BougheyBoth wins on soft in a 6f maiden here in 2022 and 7f conditions race in France last year; has had a quiet year for new yard but quite temptingly treated now and she ran well for a long way at Newmarket (1m, good to firm) on Saturday; should stay the new trip and be involved.
(4) Double Time
6David ProbertSir Mark ToddThere's not a lot between him and Alpha Crucis on 1m form here last October (soft) but he seems to have gone off the radar since his 1m win here (good to soft) in June and the turn in the weather, let alone the extra furlong, looks more of a hindrance than a help.
3rd (6) Mostawaa
8Jack MitchellHeather MainOften leads; has form on all three downhill tracks and he put a low-key run behind him when finding the most over 1m at Epsom (soft) 13 days ago; back up 5lb but he's still below his winning mark last summer and this 1m1f trip suits him, too; likely to give it a good shot.
2nd (1) Zealot
6Frederick LarsonMichael ApplebyMuch better known on the AW but as a son of Pivotal perhaps it wasn't so surprising that he coped with soft ground as well as he did in only his third turf run, when close up behind a progressive one here (1m2f) last month; interesting over 1f shorter off the same mark.
1st (3) Alpha Crucis
4Ryan MooreGary & Josh MooreSuited by soft, as for 1m win here last October and when making late headway into third in a higher grade here in May (1m2f); couldn't sustain effort over that C&D last month back from a break (similar chance to the third Zealot; first-time cheekpieces, retained today) but this intermediate trip looks ideal; good chance with Ryan Moore up for the first time.

Zealot would appear an unlikely candidate for testing ground on turf but he did so well on a rare venture on to turf here last month that he can hardly be overlooked. ALPHA CRUCIS finished behind him here last time out but was returning from a break and wasn't helped by some argy-bargy over 2f out. With Ryan Moore up for the first time and this trip likely to suit, he is narrowly preferred. Recent Epsom winner Mostawaa was a fairly remote fourth in this race last year but he's better treated now and has claims, along with Bet Me and Winter Reprise.[Emily Weber]
