BREAK MY SOUL may have disappointed when taking a keen hold at Ascot last time out, but she is better judged on her penultimate effort when narrowly touched off over the same track and trip. A progressive sort last season, the five-year-old remains with plenty of potential and she may have too much for Sunset Marquesa, who makes her handicap debut on the back of an easy success at Wincanton last month. Both arriving here on a hat-trick, Asian Spice and Tour Ovalie are leading contenders as well.

PANIC ATTACK ran well back from a long absence for her new yard at Ludlow and might be worth chancing to repeat her 2020 win in this. Sunset Marquesa slammed her rivals at Wincanton and is a major contender now handicapping. Asian Spice and Tour Ovalie are on hat-tricks and have to be respected.

Panic Attack is tempting but this could go to ASIAN SPICE, who has an improving profile and is taken to complete a hat-trick.

BUTCH showed a fine attitude with his narrow-margin successes at Cheltenham last season and Olly Murphy's gelding has shaped as though fences will bring about another level of improvement. Farnoge looked to need his first run in this discipline at Wetherby and is expected to step forward, but Abbeydale has something to find on the figures and a bit to prove with regards to his jumping having fallen at Bangor last time.

BUTCH was comfortably the best of these over hurdles and will make a chaser, so there's every chance he can make a winning start in this sphere. Farnoge is next best.

Olly Murphy's BUTCH was the best of these over hurdles and should be difficult to beat with a trouble-free round.

KAID D'AUTHIE showed promise on debut behind Majborough in France last year and was backed as if defeat was out of the question on his first run since, when making the running until falling about halfway at Navan earlier this month. It will be interesting to see how strong stablemate Kalix Delabarriere is in the market having landed the odds in a Ballinrobe bumper that has worked out well, while Koktail Divin stays well and impressed when winning twice on the Flat in France. Sermandzarak also rates a serious threat having won the valuable Goffs Defender Bumper at the Punchestown Festival and he beat all bar Butch Cassidy on his hurdle debut over 2m3f at the same venue.

The strength behind KAID D'AUTHIE in the betting at Navan suggests he'd been giving the right signals at Closutton so he's taken to gain compensation, with confidence increased should the market speak in his favour again. Gordon Elliott's Sermandzarak made a promising start to his hurdle career at Punchestown and is second choice ahead of the other Willie Mullins runner Kalix Delabarriere.

The one to beat may be SERMANDZARAK (nap) who won a valuable Punchestown bumper and was only narrowly denied on last month's return

An impressive winner on her chase debut over C&D recently, NOT STAYING LONG is likely to have plenty more improvement forthcoming and she can follow up off 10lb higher. The excellent form of her stable is another plus, and she may have too much for Beat The Edge, who shaped very well on his debut for new connections when second at Sedgefield last month. Kingofthegame cannot be ruled out either.

NOT STAYING LONG showed much improved form when scoring easily at this C&D on her chasing debut last time and she can go on to follow up with further progress to come. Kingofthegame had excuses on his latest outing so he could be worth another chance in first-time cheekpieces, with Hazard Collonges the pick of the remainder.

The suggestion is BEAT THE EDGE, who ran well on last month's stable debut and remains well handicapped.

Point-to-point winner MCLAUREY was well backed when second over 2m4f at Tipperary and gave another creditable display when third over 2m3f at Punchestown. It's interesting that connections drop him back in trip, despite the fact that he has been doing his best work late on, and he gets the vote. Did I Ask You That showed plenty of ability in bumpers and made a nice start over hurdles when placed over 2m6f at Punchestown. The winner franked that form in a Grade 2 here on Thursday. Course bumper winner Shoot The Blues likes it soft and had two good hurdle runs over this trip early in the year. He's been off for 10 months but is likely to be primed.

Having displayed ability in bumpers, DID I ASK YOU THAT made a promising return from 19 months off at Punchestown and sure to build on that, he's marginally preferred to Mclaurey, who looks a solid opponent. Shoot The Blues is also of interest.

La Marquise is penalised for winning at Ludlow on her hurdling bow, but she should have more to offer and has to enter calculations. Koapey finished a respectable second at Ffios Las and is likely to prove competitive once again, while WOTTER TROTTER is another expected to improve. The four-year-old finished a promising fourth over hurdles at Huntingdon on his racecourse debut, despite being hampered in the early stages, and Dan Skelton's charge can show the benefit of that experience to feature in the finish here. The newcomer Akimos is worthy of a market check.

LA MARQUISE overcame inexperience and was value for extra when scoring first time up over hurdles at Ludlow, seeing off Thursday's Fontwell winner Kalium, and she looks a useful prospect. She can follow up. Akimos and 3-y-o Star Time are interesting starting out in this sphere, while Wotter Trotter can improve on his encouraging debut.

Productive filly LA MARQUISE could well prove capable of defying a penalty. Koapey is second choice.

NORTHERN REEL was an impressive winner here over a longer trip before finishing runner-up at Southwell when turned out under a penalty. The six-year-old has clearly benefited from the switch to fences and wouldn't need to have improved much based on her opposition. Jumbo Veste Verte may appreciate wearing cheekpieces for the first time, while any market support for the returning Thirsty Farmer would make him of interest.

NORTHERN REEL has taken well to this sphere and has a good chance of resuming winning ways with most of her rivals arriving with something to prove. Jikala shaped well back from a long absence on chase bow here earlier this month and is a clear next best.

This isn't a strong race and JIKALA ran a lot better than her margin of defeat implies here 23 days ago.

Stay Gold caught the eye when finishing well on his handicap debut over 2m3f at Punchestown, while Giant Haystacks and point-to-point winner Lady Rose Hackett have also shown promise and have scope for further improvement. His Nibs steps up in trip on his handicap debut, while Aurea Fortuna, Jolie Jewel and Arch Enemy are others to consider.

A chance is taken on handicap newcomer LADY ROSE HACKETT for last year's winning trainer/jockey combination of Henry de Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore. His Nibbs is another who appeals as a likely improver in handicaps and also makes the shortlist along with the thriving Portarlington and the other de Bromhead runner Freddie Robdal.

A point-to-point winner over 2m4f in May, KDEUX SAINT FRAY should have no issue with this rise in distance following a determined win over 2m on his Rules debut at Ascot last month. The immediate switch to hurdling looks like a good move and it may be that Tamarind Bay gives him the most to think about following a strong runner-up effort at Market Rasen earlier in the month. Doncaster second Supreme George is noted too.

Having shown fair form in bumpers, TAMARIND BAY improved from his hurdling debut when second at Market Rasen last time, finishing with running left after a mistake at the last, and he can continue his progress to get off the mark. He is preferred to point/bumper winner Kdeux Saint Fray, while Shattered Soldier also merits consideration.

Preference is for KDEUX SAINT FRAY, who displayed tenacity to win an Ascot bumper on last month's rules debut.

Point-to-point and bumper winner WILL THE WISE ran a nice race on hurdling debut over 2m at Punchestown. He didn't give his running in a Grade 2 novice over 2m4f at Navan, but connections clearly feel stamina wasn't the issue there as he now goes up in trip by another furlong. Final Demand, entered in a Grade 1 at Naas in early January, won a Lingstown point-to-point in March and is a half-brother to four winners. He merits the utmost respect. Point-to-point winner Freddie's Back is a half-brother to two staying hurdle winners, while Timmy Tuesday, who had a good run on his hurdling debut a couple of years ago, will be fitter for his comeback at Navan.

Expensive point-recruit can make a winning debut under Rules for his top yard. Penalised-winner Will The Wise is the obvious threat back down in class.

WILL THE WISE was out of his depth on latest but showed promise in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown previously and this trip could suit.

It could pay to stick with the progressive SKYCUTTER, despite a 5lb rise for his recent success at Warwick. He made every yard to win with plenty left in the tank and there looks more to come on only his fourth start over fences. The Good Doctor never looked like catching the selection when second that day, but it was a respectable effort nonetheless and he can make his presence felt once again. The Famous Five showed promise when third at Windsor on his chasing bow and he is another to consider.

BALLYBREEZE has been given a chance by the handicapper back over fences and could be worth supporting after catching the eye on his return from a year off at Leicester. The Famous Five is just the type to better his fairly useful hurdles form over fences for Venetia Williams after a promising effort at Windsor and he's feared most ahead of Warwick 1-2 Skycutter and The Good Doctor.

Venetia Williams has won two of the last four runnings and THE FAMOUS FIVE gets the nod following his promising chase debut third.

Willie Mullins holds a strong hand and riding arrangements suggest QUAI DE BOURBON is the pick of his three runners. The selection won three times over hurdles last season and was also placed on his only other start in the Martin Pipe at the Cheltenham Festival. Chapeau De Soleil has always been held in high regard and also won three times over hurdles last term, including landing a valuable handicap at the Punchestown Festival. An Tobar was impressive in winning his point-to-point and was placed in a Grade 1 over hurdles, while Captain Cody was a Grade 2 hurdle winner last season but didn't impress with his jumping when switching to fences at Tipperary last month.

QUAI DE BOURBON's sole defeat from four starts over hurdles last season came in the Martin Pipe at the Cheltenham Festival, a race in which he finished a very solid third. The 5-y-o is armed with sky-high potential now tackling the larger obstacles and, granted a clear round, he will prove hard to beat. Dee Capo, who was still firmly in contention when falling two out at Navan three weeks ago, is feared most ahead of the selection's stablemates Captain Cody and Chapeau de Soleil.

Peejaybee is capable of a decent showing back up in distance, while others for the shortlist include Superbolt and Wild Side Of Life.

LATENIGHTRUMBLE found only prevailing inexperience preventing him running out an even more decisive winner when taking a 10-runner handicap chase at Wetherby 21 days ago, and with further progress in the offing, he makes plenty of appeal in his follow-up bid. Fellow last-time-out winner Superbolt heads up the dangers, with Wild Side of Life another not dismissed lightly having been well backed on his chase debut at Musselburgh 4 weeks ago.

He put in a decent round of jumping when winning readily on his chase debut over a bit further at Fairyhouse and may have too much class for his rivals. Search For Glory beat subsequent Tipperary winner Sa Majeste over 2m6f at Galway. He was touched off in a Grade 2 next time, although the winner didn't advertise that form at Leopardstown on Thursday. Waterford Whispers had Good Land back in third when runner-up over 2m4f at Navan, but the latter was returning from a long absence and may be able to turn around that form.

A 5-time graded-race winner over hurdles, IMPAIRE ET PASSE made a smooth transition to chasing when winning at Fairyhouse on return and he looks to hold leading claims as he bids for success at the highest level over fences. Stablemate Sa Majeste has made a promising start in this sphere and could be the main danger, ahead of Waterford Whispers.

IMPAIRE ET PASSE was the best of these over hurdles by some distance and he should have learnt plenty from his chasing debut.

Rightsotom and Welsh Charger are others capable of getting involved in an open affair.

MR BRAMLEY continued his theme of race-by-race progress when a decisive winner at Wetherby on return a month ago and given his profile, he's selected to take the step up in class in his stride. There's depth to this race, with Go To War, Mr Hope Street and Spirit d'Aunou all of interest.

HOME BY THE LEE won this race two years ago and recorded a ninth career win when making a successful reappearance at Navan last month. The Joseph O'Brien-trained gelding can be prone to hitting a flat spot in his races but recorded a smooth victory when beating Bob Olinger in that 2m4f Grade 2 event and is suited by this extra 4f. Hewick, who is best suited by good ground, and Noble Yeats are the pick of these over fences. The former won the King George at Kempton last Christmas and now reverts to hurdles after running a cracker when narrowly denied by Envoi Allen at Down Royal last month, while Grand National winner Noble Yeats may just need the run.

HOME BY THE LEE was safely held in this race 12 months ago but he landed the 2022 edition and looks the way to go on the back of his reappearance success in the Lismullen Hurdle at Navan where he proved too strong for Bob Olinger and six others. The latter renews rivalry on 5 lb better terms but the jury remains out as to whether he stays this far and a bigger threat may be posed by Asterion Forlonge, who was runner-up in this 12 months ago and was also second in a Punchestown Grade 1 in April.

Winner of this race two years ago, HOME BY THE LEE is possibly a stronger staying type than Bob Olinger who rates a big danger

SIOG GEAL has offered plenty of promise on her runner-up efforts in bumpers at Aintree and Cheltenham and she could prove hard to beat debuting over hurdles. Fergal O'Brien's mare was a winner of her sole start between the flags and it's fellow hurdles debutant Surrey Belle who is feared most. The four-year-old has proved progressive on the Flat this year and sustained market support would be interesting. Penalised winner Reel Rosie should give another good account.

With experience on her side, REEL ROSIE is taken to see off hurdling debutantes Siog Geal and Surrey Belle. The selection travelled well prior to quickly putting the race to bed on her second start in this sphere at Sedgefield and, on that evidence, she looks capable of going in again under a penalty. Surrey Belle was of a similar level of ability to Reel Rosie on the level and will be a threat if finding fluency but point-winner Siog Geal, who has shown plenty in two bumpers, is feared most.

Irish point winner SIOG GEAL looked very promising in bumpers in the autumn and is a good prospect for novice hurdles.

A chance is taken with DANCING JEREMY at the foot of the handicap. He split two subsequent Punchestown Festival handicap winners when touched off over C&D on his latest chase start in March and has a nice light weight on his back. Glengouly was second in last year's renewal after a nine-month layoff and went on to fill the same position in the Thyestes Chase at Gowran. He lost form afterwards, but clearly runs well fresh and this has probably been the plan for some time. La Malmason showed the benefit of undergoing a procedure for a back problem when readily landing a mares' handicap at Fairyhouse. She's 10lb higher but may be capable of further improvement.

SHANTREUSSE made an encouraging reappearance when third at Punchestown last month and, having been shaping up well last season, he could be ready to get back to winning ways with cheekpieces reapplied. He is taken to see off the challenge of La Malmason, who won in good style on her return, with Law Ella also considered.

A competitive handicap in which a chance is taken on last season's Thyestes runner-up GLENGOULY who might be best caught fresh.

In what looks an open affair, HOE JOLY SMOKE gets the tentative vote. Dan Skelton's charge stripped fitter for a satisfactory second over 2m4f at Uttoxeter on his seasonal reappearance when fairly bolting up over 3m at Sandown recently and, upped 7lb, this upwardly mobile staying chaser could go in again. Henry's Friend lost little in defeat when fifth in the Coral Gold Cup over C&D last month and, eased 1lb, a bold bid for the gold medal would come as no surprise. Brave Kingdom and Surrey Quest are a couple of others to consider.

HENRY'S FRIEND looked a staying chaser going places last term and having returned to form over this C&D a month ago, he's fancied to build on that. Brave Kingdom finished behind the selection at Ascot last winter but he remains capable of better, with Hoe Joly Smoke another to take seriously.

There's no shortage of plausible each-way options but HOE JOLY SMOKE (nap) stands out in terms of potential.

The unexposed Catch Catchfire was sporting first-time cheekpieces (retained) when scoring readily on his handicap/chase debut at Leicester recently and he commands respect. The class-dropping Elleon is also noted.

The vote goes to unexposed 5-y-o CATCH CATCHFIRE, who looked a different proposition switched to fences with cheekpieces enlisted at Leicester and, with the promise of better to come, he looks more than capable of following up off this 8 lb higher mark. Super Citizen has been given a chance by the handicapper and he is next on the list ahead of Musselburgh-scorer Ribeye, while Coolmoyne and Elleon are each-way contenders.

Two talented young claiming riders may fight it out, though, with Conor Stone-Walsh on DANCINGONDACEILING, preferred to Calum Hogan aboard Hees Dynamite. We haven't seen Dancingondaceiling since he prevailed over this track and trip back in April. The selection's owners have since switched their young Workforce gelding to the Gavin Cromwell yard. It may be that he's being asked a stiff enough question off a mark of 112 for his handicap debut, but the five-year-old has much scope for progression. Those who favour the tried-and-tested will row in behind dual course victor Hees Dynamite. Three miles ought not to be a problem for the son of Ocovango.

DANCINGONDACEILING could be one to follow having joined Gavin Cromwell since his C&D win in April and he can make a successful handicap debut. The Lovely Man, Hees Dynamite and Plain Or Battered are also on the shortlist.

Impressive at Chepstow when beating a subsequent winner, the son of Kayf Tara won under a penalty over C&D last month and may prove himself to be one of England's leading novice hurdle prospects. Bill Joyce won well at Sandown in Grade 2 company and is likely to enter calculations.

The best of the early-season British novices clash in what should be a most-informative Challow Hurdle. Marginal preference is for THE NEW LION, who looked all quality when winning a C&D novice a month ago. Bill Joyce will get further in time but he remains of serious interest over any trip given his ability, with the highly-regarded Regent's Stroll a serious player, too.

KAARANAH ran well under a change of tactics when third to Urban Road over C&D at the beginning of the month and is now 4 lb better off with that rival, so he's taken to reverse the form and come out on top. Falcon Nine probably isn't the most straightforward but is up to defying his current mark when things fall right, while Alpine Sierra remains feasibly treated on old form for his recent C&D success.

Sure to have been lined up for this particular contest, he can continue his progression. Win Some Lose Some gave the impression that he would be suited to stepping up to three-miles when staying on to finish fifth in Listed class at Naas last time. King Alexander has to be of interest on his first start for Willie Mullins. A four-time winner when trained in Britain, the six-year-old has the potential to play a big part.

A few with chances but FORTUNEDEFORTUNATA can race off the same mark as when a very good Navan fourth last time out so looks the way to go. Tranquil Sea heads the list of dangers on the back of his good Clonmel second, although a solid case can also be made for Binge Worthy, Golden Temple and Win Some Lose Some.

He was last seen scoring gamely in a Southwell maiden over 2m last month and it will be no surprise if he has enough in the locker to score on his handicap debut. The capable but inconsistent Klitschko has the ability to play a hand in a race of this nature. Fourofakind is respected most of the remainder.

This could be the day for GOT YOUR BACK to get his head in front again, having showed up well for a long way at Carlisle last time, and he can capitalise on his falling handicap mark with Brian Hughes back aboard. Lone Star should strip fitter for her reappearance and could be dangerous while Fourofakind can be competitive at this level once again.

He finished tired at Carlisle last time but GOT YOUR BACK (nap) ran well there and can be seen to better effect on this easier track.

Connections of handicap first-timer SHERIFFHILL were represented with distinction by 2019 Arkle third-placer Articulum in the past. They've had to be patient with Sheriffhill, who didn't complete when market leader for his point-to-point back in the spring. Afforded a nice break after that, Terence O'Brien competed the well-related Westerner gelding in three maiden hurdles this winter. A little bit of progression can be gleaned from those appearances, which sees him begin in this sphere from a workable mark of 97, and John Shinnick's claim is also helpful. The unexposed selection, up in trip here, can at least be on the premises for a place in the frame. Several have been there and done that with regard to winning at this venue and two of those, Dancing After Dark and Crowsatedappletart, certainly make the shortlist.

Having shaped well on his penultimate start in this sphere, BEGGARS ROCK ran his best race to date when third on chase debut at Cork 2 weeks ago, a final flight mistake arguably costing him victory. Back over hurdles with first-time blinkers enlisted, he could be the answer. Last year's winner Tomjackwilliam is a big danger along with recent winners Dancing After Dark and Crowsatedappletart. Grace Faraday also needs factoring in.

It was pretty straightforward for DANCING AFTER DARK here last time and Philip Donovan can claim his 5lb this time.

THEFORMISMIGHTY confirmed that he's going to be a much better chaser than hurdler when an easy winner at Southwell at the start of the month, and with this increased emphasis on stamina sure to suit, he holds strong claims. Shanagh Bob will surely show more this time, with Inthewaterside another of interest switched to the larger obstacles.

The Windsor run by ZERTAKT suggested that Venetia Williams has turned him round and can get off the mark with him over this longer trip.

On achievements on the racecourse proper to date, Mossy Way sets the standard. From a stable well accustomed to nurturing young talent, the strength of Mossy Way in the market was telling prior to his debut at Fairyhouse at the beginning of the month. It's likely that the Alkaadhem gelding ran into a potential top-notcher, when yielding by seven lengths to Koktail Brut, but there was certainly something to build on from that runner-up effort. On this occasion, though, a chance is taken on L' EVANGELISTE. Very positive vibes have emerged from the Eric McNamara camp regarding this French-bred. He was clearly well regarded when housed at the shrewd Donie Murphy point-to-point outfit, and he came up to the mark in decent fashion at Quakerstown on Easter Sunday. Road Exile is another point-to-point scorer to consider.

ROAD EXILE has joined Gordon Elliott since landing a point and looks the obvious choice for all that Mossy Way sets a reasonable standard based on what he achieved at Fairyhouse on debut. L'Evangelist is another one to consider having got the job done on his only start between the flags.

Darlo Pride is at the top of his game and bids for a hat-trick having struck at Wolverhampton a week ago to supplement a track-and-trip triumph. Buzz Box is edging closer and could pose a threat after finishing runner-up here last time.

A few horses that like to go forward here, and THE RIDDLER could be the answer to this tricky puzzle. Drawn in stall 2 with pace around him, he should get a nice toe into the race and can follow up his success at this venue last week. Hat-trick seeking Darlo Pride is drawn next to the selection, and can chase him home, while Brian The Snail can hit the frame with a better break from the stalls.

ONLY ONE BLUE boasts a smart pedigree being out of Group 3 winner Missunited and her progeny includes the likes of Eagles By Day, who also scored at Group 3 level, and the Japanese Group 1-placed Wholeness. The form standard doesn't appear to be particularly high and Richard Hannon's filly gets the vote to make a winning debut. Suzette Defoye is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Simca Mille and she makes plenty of appeal on paper. Timeless Spirit finished second at 50/1 here on debut and the return to this venue might see her in a better light.

AZANIYA hit the line with more to give when recording a promising debut at Kempton earlier in the month and, with a good chunk of improvement anticipated, she could have enough to open her account. Simon Crisford-trained newcomers Suzette Defoye and Harpsichord both make plenty of appeal on pedigree.

Easily preferred among those who've run, AZANIYA gets the vote. Suzette Defoye, Harpsichord and Only One Blue need a check.

ANGEL OF ANTRIM responded well to the refitting of a visor and bolted up by five lengths here last week. The headgear remains in place and he should have no trouble confirming latest running with the second Concert Boy. The latter will likely be in the mix once again, with an apprentice's 7lb allowance helping his cause. Keep Me Stable was narrowly beaten here on her penultimate start and is not out of it if reproducing that effort.

WINDSOR PASS remains without a win but rates just the pick of these weights so edges the vote in a highly-open contest. C&D scorer Buttercross Flyer heads the lists of dangers, while Concert Boy, Angel of Antrim and Ishe Worth Agamble can all have a say too in this very open contest.

Angel Of Antrim isn't opposed lightly but SIR MAXI looks a sporting alternative off in a race which could be run to suit.

SAVED LIZZIE didn't appear to see out 1m2f when tried over that distance for the first time at Chelmsford earlier in the month, and the drop back to a mile may see her get off the mark. King Of Speed beat the selection at Wolverhampton last month but is now 2lb worse off for a length success, while the consistent Harry The Haggler appeals most of the remainder.

HARRY THE HAGGLER was strong in the betting on debut for this yard at Wolverhampton last week and he put in a good shift in that 10-runner handicap. He is appealing off the same mark here, with Ring of Gold and King of York taken to fill the places in that order of preference.

There are pluses with City Cyclone, but RING OF GOLD boasts a decent record at this time of year and is well treated now.
