|||||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (50/1 +60%) Jerk |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (13) (12/1 -20%) Twoohthree |
12/1(-20%) | (13) Twoohthree 12/1, Useful winner at 20f over hurdles. Fourth of 6 in novice hurdle (7/1) at Ayr (20.4f, good to soft), unsuited by emphasis on speed. Off 7 months. Makes chase debut. The mount of Jack Kennedy from the yard's 3 runners. Point winner; wide-margin maiden hurdle winner; interesting he's first string. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (10) (14/1 0%) O'moore Park |
14/1(0%) | (10) O'moore Park 14/1, Useful hurdler. 14/1 and hooded for 1st time, below form fifteenth of 25 in handicap hurdle at Punchestown (23.5f, good to soft). Off 7 months. Makes chase debut. Point winner; won maiden hurdle here on heavy; jumping needs to improve on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||

125/1(+17%) | (4) Dorans Law 125/1, Fairly useful hurdler. Winner in hurdle at Ballinrobe in August. 16/1, eighteenth of 23 in handicap hurdle at Navan (22.4f, good to soft) 13 days ago. Makes chase debut. Career-best over timber on August yard debut; lesser efforts since; big ask on chase debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
IMPAIRE ET PASSE is very hard to get away from on his chasing debut. He has won six of his nine hurdle races including three at the highest level at Cheltenham, Punchestown and Aintree. He is a more than interesting recruit to chasing especially as Willie Mullins commented in a recent stable tour that he could be one for his Arkle squad. Staffordshire Knot was runner-up in a Grade 1 over flights at Aintree in April. He's had a kissing spine operation since then and could be better over fences. Waterford Whispers has reportedly schooled well over the bigger obstacles and should have a role to play, while O'moore Park and Now Is The Hour are others eyeing prize money.
A maiden chase with a good roll of honour and IMPAlRE ET PASSE can become yet another classy winner of the race. Now Is The Hour got some chase experience on his final start last season and might be the one to follow him home ahead of Waterford Whispers and Twoohthree.
It's hard to get away from the claims of IMPAIRE ET PASSE on chase debut who is in a different league to the rest of these

1st (2) (5/2 -67%) Campaign Trail |
5/2(-67%) | (2) Campaign Trail 5/2, Fairly useful and progressive on Flat (stays 2m) for Ralph Beckett in 2023. 200,000 gns purchase in the autumn of that year. It's taken a while for new connections to get him to the track (has had wind surgery) but he's still a very interesting recruit to hurdling. Also tongue tied first time. Bought for 200,000gns after good Flat campaign in 2023; makes hurdle debut after layoff. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (14/1 +0%) Supreme George |
14/1(+0%) | (7) Supreme George 14/1, £38,000 Irish point recruit who offered something to work on when fifth of 12 on his Sedgefield hurdle debut 25 days ago but he's unlikely to really come into his own until tackling longer trips than this. Just a respectable fifth in run-of-the-mill Sedgefield maiden on recent hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (1/2 +19%) No Questions Asked |
1/2(+19%) | (1) No Questions Asked 1/2, Point winner who won a Market Rasen bumper and showed useful form when sixth in an Aintree Grade 2 in the spring. Can be rated a lot better than the bare form of his odds-on hurdle debut success at Carlisle as he was set an awful lot to do in a first-time hood (retained). This is a good opportunity. Useful in bumpers last season and made a winning hurdle debut this month; major player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (8/1 +60%) Eagles Gold |
8/1(+60%) | (3) Eagles Gold 8/1, Half-brother to 2 winners. Has shown ability in a bumper and novice hurdle nearly 8 months apart and likely has a bigger performance in him before long. Not beaten far on bumper debut in April but made low-key start to hurdle career this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (40/1 -21%) Joto |
40/1(-21%) | (8) Joto 40/1, Only modest form in 2 bumpers this autumn so doesn't strike as an obvious one to make a successful start over hurdles. Not beaten that far after keeping on well in her two bumpers this autumn. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (100/1 +0%) Rockvale |
100/1(+0%) | (6) Rockvale 100/1, Only beaten 12 lengths when second on Warwick debut but down the field at Bangor since. Not disgraced on rules debut and had excuse on next outing but remains best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (250/1 -25%) Nut Wood |
250/1(-25%) | (5) Nut Wood 250/1, No promise in a bumper and 2 novice hurdles. Big outsider. Struggled to get competitive on first two hurdling starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (125/1 -25%) Moran's Law |
125/1(-25%) | (4) Moran's Law 125/1, In good hands but likely more one for handicaps after this. Soundly beaten on both hurdling starts this autumn; can't be recommended. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (66/1 -100%) Natus Vincere |
66/1(-100%) | (9) Natus Vincere 66/1, Decisive winner of her sole start in points but hasn't achieved much in 2 novice hurdles this month. Irish point winner in May but soundly beaten in two hurdle races this month. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
NO QUESTIONS ASKED was value for more than the winning margin when scoring at Carlisle on his hurdles debut earlier in the month, and a 7lb penalty for that success may not be enough to prevent him from following up. A progressive sort on the Flat last year for trainer Ralph Beckett, Campaign Trail must be of interest on his first start for new connections after a long absence, while Joto is another to note after a relatively promising bumper effort at Kelso last time out.
NO QUESTIONS ASKED can be rated a good bit better than the bare form of his Carlisle hurdle debut success and can make it 2-2 in this discipline. Campaign Trail's absence ahead of this hurdle debut has to be a slight concern but he's still the obvious danger.
Useful bumper performer NO QUESTIONS ASKED had to work pretty hard to make a winning hurdle debut but can better that bare form here.

1st (1) (11/2 +54%) Inappropriate |
11/2(+54%) | (1) Inappropriate 11/2, Fairly useful on Flat, good second in pursuit of hat-trick at Pontefract (10f, heavy) just under 6 weeks ago. Has since left Harry Eustace and interesting to see what the market makes of him on hurdling debut. Consistent gelding who since July posted form figures of 223112 in 1m2f-1m4f handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (2/7 -114%) Lavender Hill Mob |
2/7(-114%) | (2) Lavender Hill Mob 2/7, Useful on Flat, mid-field in Group 2 Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot (14.2f, good to firm) last time. Has since left Michael Bell and appeals as a very interesting hurdling debutant (stable has an outstanding recent record with juveniles). Classy, progressive Flat form and has reportedly schooled well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (10/1 +60%) Spartan Warrior |
10/1(+60%) | (3) Spartan Warrior 10/1, Fair handicapper on Flat, won twice in 2024 for Ollie Sangster. Showed aptitude when third of 8 in juvenile at Musselburgh (15.6f, good to soft) on hurdling debut on Thursday. Others more appealing given the quick turnaround. 1m2f/1m4f winner at an ordinary level; respectable third over hurdles on Thursday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (18/1 -50%) Global Hideaway |
18/1(-50%) | (5) Global Hideaway 18/1, Masterstroke filly who was given a considerate introduction having been easy to back when fourth of 7 in juvenile hurdle at Bangor (16.7f, soft) on debut earlier this month. Should progress with that initial effort under her belt and gets 7 lb from her male rivals. Only fourth of the seven runners at Bangor and this looks a stronger race. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
James Owen often does well with his Flat recruits and LAVENDER HILL MOB could be the next cab off that rank. Rated 96 in that sphere and last seen finishing seventh in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot, the Expert Eye gelding will be a tough nut to crack if transferring his ability to hurdles. Inappropriate was no slouch on the level either and he may prove the pick of the opposition, while Global Hideaway, the only contender with previous hurdling experience, heads the remaining trio.
James Owen has an outstanding recent record with his juveniles and LAVENDER HILL MOB can be the latest cab off the rank to make the successful switch to hurdling. He can get the better of sole filly Global Hideaway, who was given a considerate introduction at Bangor recently.
It's hard to see past LAVENDER HILL MOB who is held in similar regard to the yard's recent Grade 2 winner East India Dock.

1st (2) (6/4 +33%) Listentoyourheart |
6/4(+33%) | (2) Listentoyourheart 6/4, Overcame inexperience to make a winning bumper debut at Sedgefield last autumn and has looked good in 2 starts over hurdles, easily landing the odds in a Market Rasen maiden and 4-runner C&D novice (good to soft). Remains open to any amount of improvement and she's a serious player. Easy winner of both hurdles (latterly C&D) and can take step up in class in her stride. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (10/1 -43%) Rula Bula |
10/1(-43%) | (8) Rula Bula 10/1, From a good family and left her debut well behind when landing a mares' Warwick bumper last November. Signed 2023/24 campaign off with a good second in Sandown listed bumper and she duly delivered when odds on for her recent hurdles debut at Market Rasen (20.6f, good). Brimming with potential. Useful bumper performer; landed short odds on recent hurdle debut; sure to improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (7/2 -17%) Jubilee Alpha |
7/2(-17%) | (4) Jubilee Alpha 7/2, Half-sister to bumper winner Four Clean Aces and looked above average when forging clear to make a successful start in a Wincanton in February. Built on that when runner-up in a Grade 2 at the Aintree Grand National meeting (Listentoyourheart back in fifth) and she's an intriguing hurdles debutante. Had Listentoyourheart behind when second in Grade 2 bumper in April; good hurdle prospect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (9/2 +31%) Walkadina |
9/2(+31%) | (9) Walkadina 9/2, Runner-up both starts in bumpers during the spring and she looked potentially useful when routing the opposition on return/hurdles debut at Uttoxeter (15.8f, good to soft). That form looks decent (the second has already won since) and this 5-y-o does not look out of place at this level. Made all by 13l on 2m Uttoxeter hurdle debut four weeks ago; useful prospect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (50/1 -79%) Kitty Foyle |
50/1(-79%) | (6) Kitty Foyle 50/1, Fairly useful stayer on the Flat (stays 2m) and bright start over hurdles when landing 9-runner mares' novice at Newton Abbot (16.8f, good) in September. However, she was no match for Listentoyourheart here next time and a 3 lb pull is unlikely to be enough to see her narrow the gap. Winning hurdle debut in September but no match for Listentoyourheart over C&D since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (33/1 +0%) Disco Annie |
33/1(+0%) | (3) Disco Annie 33/1, Has raised her game the last twice, bagging back-to-back 17.2f Carlisle handicaps, latterly doing well to overcome a pace bias in a 9-runner contest in which she narrowly prevailed but probably had more in hand than the margin of victory would suggest. Much more on her plate this time. On a hat-trick after 2m1f Carlisle handicap wins this month; steep rise in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (7/2 +13%) Sansrisk |
7/2(+13%) | (1) Sansrisk 7/2, Bumper winner who opened hurdles account at the third attempt in a Fairyhouse maiden. Progressed when following up in a Grade 3 at Down Royal (17f, good to soft) earlier this month and, while that wasn't a particularly strong race of its type, she has to enter calculations. Arrives on a hat-trick after maiden/Grade 3 wins this autumn; thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (300/1 -650%) Little Soiree |
300/1(-650%) | (7) Little Soiree 300/1, Runner-up twice in bumpers for Willie Mullins and while she failed to shine in 5 runs (2 over hurdles) for Paul Nolan, there were more encouraging signs on debut for this yard in a 2m Kempton novice during the spring (in a share of third and keeping on when falling at the final flight). Keeping on in 3rd when falling at last in Kempton novice in March but this is a tough ask. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (400/1 -220%) Kayf Hope |
400/1(-220%) | (5) Kayf Hope 400/1, Fetched £55,000 after winning an Irish point in 2022 but she hasn't cut much ice in 3 starts over hurdles so far and is punching well above her weights at this level. Point winner but well held all three outings under rules. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Sansrisk sets the standard based on her Grade 3 success at Down Royal at the beginning of the month, but that was not the strongest of contests and she has to carry a 5lb penalty here. With that in mind, preference is for JUBILEE ALPHA, who confirmed her debut promise when second in a Grade 2 bumper at Aintree when last seen in April. Her lack of hurdling experience is a concern but the daughter of Flemensfirth could still prove too good. Listentoyourheart was behind the selection in that valuable bumper but her two easy hurdling victories this season earn her a place on the shortlist.
A strong renewal of this listed race, with several highly promising mares on show. LISTENTOYOURHEART was behind Jubilee Alpha in an Aintree bumper during the spring but she has improved since switched to this sphere, winning her two starts over hurdles in the manner of a mare going places. Conversely, Jubilee Alpha has been absent since Aintree, so Dan Skelton's charge holds an edge both in terms of experience and match-fitness. Walkadina is third choice ahead of Rula Bula and Sansrisk.
Dan Skelton's LISTENTOYOURHEART is selected to make it 3-3 over hurdles, with Walkadina perhaps the one to give her most to do.

1st (5) (6/1 +50%) Sam Magee |
6/1(+50%) | (5) Sam Magee 6/1, 40/1, below form fourth of 12 in novice chase at Punchestown (16.6f, good) 45 days ago. Back up in trip for this handicap chase debut and he needs a second look. Although well beaten at Punchestown, the second won a Grade 2 at Punchestown last week. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (8/1 0%) St Denis's Well |
8/1(0%) | (3) St Denis's Well 8/1, 6/1, very good second of 23 in handicap hurdle at Navan (16f, good to soft) 13 days ago. Switches from hurdles to chase. Significantly back up in trip and not without an each-way chance. Three-time chase winner but he looks very high in the weights at present. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (14/1 -40%) Toofareastiswest |
14/1(-40%) | (8) Toofareastiswest 14/1, Good 6 lengths second of 6 to General Hubble in handicap chase at this course (24.3f, good, 9/1) 18 days ago. Place possibilities. Behind General Hubble here latest; that winner went in again three days later. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (13) (10/3 +17%) General Hubble |
10/3(+17%) | (13) General Hubble 10/3, Ungenuine type. Course winner. 2 wins from 6 runs this season. Career best when winning 13-runner handicap chase at Punchestown (24.3f, good, 6/5) 15 days ago, staying on well. Solid claims. Saw off Toofareastiswest here (11lb worse off) before following up three days later. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (11) (4/1 +50%) Pebble Bleu |
4/1(+50%) | (11) Pebble Bleu 4/1, Winner at Punchestown in October. Fifth of 7 in novice chase at Clonmel (20.8f, good to soft, 25/1) 23 days ago. One to consider. Ran well against different class of opposition in Listed grade and will find this easier. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (22/1 +33%) The Echo Boy |
22/1(+33%) | (1) The Echo Boy 22/1, C&D winner. Latest win in chase at Ballinrobe in May. 10/1, last of 6 in handicap chase at Gowran (20f, good to firm) 56 days ago, possibly amiss. Others make more appeal. More needed but all of his wins have been off the back of a bad run so he's not out of it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (9/1 +44%) Well Del |
9/1(+44%) | (7) Well Del 9/1, Lightly-raced winner under Rules. 18/1, very good sixth of 10 in novice chase at Punchestown (16.6f, good) 15 days ago. Makes handicap chase debut and another who makes some each-way appeal. Never figured in two subsequent starts after win; market will guide on his handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (12) (11/1 -10%) Turbo |
11/1(-10%) | (12) Turbo 11/1, Won 8-runner handicap chase at Thurles (16.6f, good, 16/1) 9 days ago. Step back up in trip unlikely to be an issue and he has to be taken seriously. Won after layoff; still looks well treated on pick of his form but this is a deeper race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (20/1 -43%) Old Soul |
20/1(-43%) | (9) Old Soul 20/1, 15/2, eighth of 11 in handicap chase at Down Royal (26.2f, good to soft). Off 7 months and it's probably best to look elsewhere. Drop in trip might help but typically needs a run so the absence is a worry. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (2) (9/2 +10%) Shajak |
9/2(+10%) | (2) Shajak 9/2, Useful winner at 12f on the Flat. Creditable third of 9 in handicap chase (3/1) at Down Royal (24f, good to soft) 28 days ago. Enters calculations. Yard also saddles Ringdufferin and General Hubble. Slow jumps cost him on handicap chase debut; big player if he cuts out the errors. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
ST DENIS'S WELL appeals on the back of a highly creditable runner-up berth in a handicap hurdle at Navan just under a fortnight ago, and he is a better chaser than hurdler. Gordon Elliott's General Hubble is climbing the ranks after two victories over fences at this track (under Toni Quail) and in Punchestown during November. If those exertions haven't left a mark, he would be a significant threat. His stablemate, Shajak, has been placed in his last three races over fences and should be competitive. Turbo overcame a very lengthy absence to score in Thurles last week. He did win nicely, but you'd have to be wary of the bounce factor with the 11-year-old gelding.
The vote goes to PEBBLE BLEU, who understandably found listed company too much at Clonmel and she is better judged on her Punchestown success on penultimate start. Turbo made light of a lengthy absence when striking at Thurles recently and, provided he is able to avoid the dreaded 'bounce' factor, another bold show could be on the way from this 11-y-o. The hat-trick seeking General Hubble is also accorded respect, along with stablemate Shajak.
Plenty here worth considering but a chance is taken on SAM MAGEE, who was chucked in at the deep end latest and will find this easier

1st (2) (11/2 +54%) Classic King |
11/2(+54%) | (2) Classic King 11/2, Fairly useful novice hurdler last season but well below that level on his completed start over fences last autumn. Too soon to write him off in this sphere but he needs to jump better. Has made low-key start to chasing career but can still deliver on hurdling promise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (5/4 -4%) I'm Ravenous |
5/4(-4%) | (3) I'm Ravenous 5/4, Won a Sedgefield maiden hurdle in October and followed up on his chase and handicap debut at Warwick (2½m, good) 5 weeks later. His 5 lb rise for that is offset by his very promising rider's 7 lb claim. Hard to beat. Low-mileage 6yo; made all on recent chase/handicap debut; good 7lb claimer booked today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (7/2 -75%) Roger Pol |
7/2(-75%) | (1) Roger Pol 7/2, Returned from wind surgery to make a successful chase debut at Southwell (20.5f, good) last month. The slightly shorter trip this time isn't sure to play to his strengths but he appeals as one who should have even more to offer over fences. Won in pretty good style on last month's seasonal/chase debut; major player here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (15/2 -50%) Shakeyatailfeather |
15/2(-50%) | (4) Shakeyatailfeather 15/2, Fair hurdler who came good at the sixth time of asking in 21.5f Newton Abbot maiden in September. Bettered that form when narrowly denied under a penalty at Southwell (3m) the following month but not at best at Ludlow since. Chase debut (placed in point at start of career). Just 1-8 over hurdles and was below form last time; improvement needed on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (9/1 +10%) Presenting Pete |
9/1(+10%) | (5) Presenting Pete 9/1, Modest handicap hurdler who has run to a similar level on all 3 chase starts this autumn. Likely vulnerable to some of the less-exposed sorts in this line-up. Good second on last month's chasing debut but others here have more potential. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
This can go the way of I'M RAVENOUS, who could not be denied on his chase debut at Warwick when jumping well from the front throughout. A 5lb rise for that victory could prove lenient, and Ben Pauling's charge can land the hat-trick at the main expense of Roger Pol, who made an excellent impression himself when scoring on his chase debut at Southwell last month. A capable sort over the smaller obstacles, Shakeyatailfeather must also enter calculations for leading connections.
Callum Pritchard's 7 lb claim is a gift and he can put it to good use again on I'M RAVENOUS. Roger Pol is the obvious danger.
Preference is for ROGER POL, who came from off the pace and was nicely in command in the closing stages at Southwell last month.

1st (2) (7/2 +30%) Glory And Honour |
7/2(+30%) | (2) Glory And Honour 7/2, Improved over fences for current yard last season and also scored on the Flat at Pontefract in October. Not disgraced when 8 lengths third of 5 over 19f at Wetherby 14 days ago. Ran okay when beaten 8l into third at Wetherby but softer ground would be preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (8/1 +33%) Hawkseye View |
8/1(+33%) | (9) Hawkseye View 8/1, Winning pointer who made a perfectly satisfactory chasing debut at Wetherby last month, shaping as if better for the run on return having looked third best for a long way. Failed badly to build on that at Bangor since so difficult to know what to expect here. Maiden after nine runs under rules and has finished down the field in both chases. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (18/1 -414%) Artic Row |
18/1(-414%) | (3) Artic Row 18/1, Successful 3 times last season (all 20.5f at Ayr). Has failed to complete on both comeback starts this autumn but was in the process of running well (yet to be asked for maximum effort) when coming down 2 out back at Ayr 17 days ago. Claims if none the worse. Not completed the last twice but big shout if he can avoid the errors. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (6/1 +25%) Whoshotthesheriff |
6/1(+25%) | (7) Whoshotthesheriff 6/1, Useful chaser in his prime. Lost his way for Phil Kirby but stopped the slide for new trainer Lizzie Quinlan when 10 lengths fourth of 15 at Carlisle last month. Very well treated if he can build on that. Ran well enough on stable debut at Carlisle (2m4f; beaten 10l) to warrant a second look. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (7/2 +42%) Shadows In The Sky |
7/2(+42%) | (8) Shadows In The Sky 7/2, Point winner who has scored twice over 2½m at Hexham this season, the latter success coming with a visor added (retained) 8 weeks ago. His 5 lb rise for that is offset by his rider's claim. Player. Effectively off the same mark as for his all-the-way win at Hexham. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (16/1 -167%) Five Dollar Fine |
16/1(-167%) | (1) Five Dollar Fine 16/1, Made it 3 wins in 4 starts when seeing off 6 rivals over 2m at Carlisle in October. Not so good when stepped back up in trip at Kelso last time, though. Recent wins at 2m and he wasn't at his best over 2m5f last time at Kelso. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (5) (20/1 -100%) Gandhi Maker |
20/1(-100%) | (5) Gandhi Maker 20/1, Course winner. Went in at Sedgefield in January (final start for Stuart Coltherd). Just as good when second at Hexham for Phil Kirby in April but ran poorly back at Sedgefield in May and has changed stable again ahead of return. The betting should help guide to expectations. Good overall record over fences, winning three and placed in plenty; bled last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (4/1 +60%) Step Above |
4/1(+60%) | (4) Step Above 4/1, Shaped well when third on his 2½m Perth reappearance in September. On a good mark if he is able to back that up. Competitively treated and his Perth run two months ago was encouraging. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (17/2 -6%) Backbyjet |
17/2(-6%) | (6) Backbyjet 17/2, Has landed 3 wins over 2½m at Hexham this season but not in the same form when a well-held third over this C&D last month. His yard won the race last year. Saves his best for Hexham and was left behind by the front two here a month ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Having unseated early on at Hexham in a race won by the reopposing Backbyjet, Artic Row looked the most likely winner of a three-runner contest at Ayr before coming to grief two from home recently. Nick Alexander's gelding could go close if putting in a clean round today, but the vote goes to STEP ABOVE. He shaped with promise on his seasonal return at Perth in September, his first start following wind surgery, so it would come as no surprise were he to step forward this time around. Shadows In The Sky is another to consider.
A chance is taken on WHOSHOTTHESHERIFF, who took a step back in the right direction on his first outing for Lizzie Quinlan and is thrown in on his peak form if he can build on that. Shadows In The Sky and Step Above might give him most to do. Artic Row could also play a part assuming a recent heavy tumble at Ayr hasn't dented his confidence.
Lucinda Russell's STEP ABOVE ran a nice race at Perth and should be sharper here. Artic Row is feared most.

1st (11) (11/1 +8%) Wiseguy |
11/1(+8%) | (11) Wiseguy 11/1, Exeter winner last November but off since being pulled up in 3m handicap hurdle at Cheltenham in April. Needs to get back on track returned to chasing. Last season fizzled out when the yard had its issues; young enough to bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (40/1 -186%) Imperil |
40/1(-186%) | (7) Imperil 40/1, Useful chaser in France. Bit below form 35¾ lengths seventh of 13 to Gran Diose in Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris at Auteuil (29.8f, soft, 26/1). Off 6 months since but potentially well in on best form. Useful chaser in France on his day and does have competitive form over British fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (5/2 +69%) Demnat |
5/2(+69%) | (10) Demnat 5/2, Made light of a 32-month absence on his yard debut when easily landing 5-runner handicap chase at Ludlow (20f, soft) in February. Didn't fire subsequently but back in trip and fresh could be the time to catch him with stable going well. Lost his way last season but in strong races; still unexposed and 2m6f might be ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (12/1 -118%) Le Milos |
12/1(-118%) | (2) Le Milos 12/1, Big improver over fences for this yard in 2022/23, including victory in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury. Disappointing last season but on a handy mark and should come on for reappearance at Cheltenham a month ago. 2lb lower than when winning today's big chase two years ago; encouraging reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (7/1 -17%) Highstakesplayer |
7/1(-17%) | (5) Highstakesplayer 7/1, Likeable sort who made it 4-5 over fences in 3m handicap chase at Kempton in April. Solid reappearance when second at Ascot and should be able to make his presence felt again. Career-high second at Ascot last time but seems to save best for right-handed tracks. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (17/2 -89%) Genois |
17/2(-89%) | (6) Genois 17/2, Useful hurdler/chaser at his best for Enda Bolger in Ireland. Opened his account for this yard in ready fashion at Wetherby last month but jumping might not hold up in this more competitive environment. Useful in Ireland and won nicely over a trip short of his best at Wetherby last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (28/1 -155%) Farceur Du Large |
28/1(-155%) | (8) Farceur Du Large 28/1, Useful at best in Ireland and won first two starts over fences for this stable earlier this year. Not in same form when last seen 7 months ago but shouldn't be written off. Forget his final run and last season was a positive one for his new yard; mark is okay. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (3/1 +63%) Twinjets |
3/1(+63%) | (3) Twinjets 3/1, Multiple bumper/hurdles winner who found improvement when making a successful debut for Paul Nicholls over fences at Doncaster (3m, good to soft) last December. Back on track here last time and should put up another bold showing. Back to form when second to an improver and that brings him into the reckoning. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (11/2 +45%) Inch House |
11/2(+45%) | (4) Inch House 11/2, Lightly-raced winner over hurdles who has progressed well for switch to chasing, landing back-to-back handicaps here prior to a solid second at Cheltenham (25.2f). Disappointed subsequently but has joined Paul Nicholls (from Jonjo O'Neill) and top claimer takes the ride. Deserves respect. Big improver last season and won this last year; still only a 7yo; new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (28/1 -100%) Fidelio Vallis |
28/1(-100%) | (1) Fidelio Vallis 28/1, 5/1, career best when winning 9-runner handicap chase at Musselburgh (20.3f, soft), running on. Off 11 months. Still unexposed for this stable and should be well prepared for this. Last seen winning at Musselburgh on New Year's Day; up 6lb in a deeper race here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (50/1 -150%) Sizable Sam |
50/1(-150%) | (9) Sizable Sam 50/1, Three-time winning hurdler who was last seen landing a 4-runner novice chase at Exeter. That was 22 months ago, however, so hard to know what level of ability he retains. Talented but this competitive a race asks plenty of him after so long on the sidelines. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
LE MILOS has been largely disappointing since winning the Coral Gold Cup two years ago, but he is now 2lb lower than that last winning mark. His last couple of efforts have been more encouraging and it would be no surprise to see him return to winning ways in this company. Twinjets hit the crossbar over 2m4f at this venue a few weeks ago and should not be underestimated, while Highstakesplayer and Genois are others with strong form claims.
TWINJETS was right back on track when runner-up here last time and may yet have more to offer for Paul Nicholls, so he gets the marginal vote over Highstakesplayer, who filled the same position at Ascot on his latest outing. Demnat is worthy of interest back fresh for an in-form stable.
As competitive as always. DEMNAT was at his best when fresh last season and he's a standout candidate to find significant improvement.

8/1(+50%) | (10) The Folkes Tiara 8/1, Latest win at Leopardstown in December. Eleventh of 17 in handicap chase at Punchestown (16.3f, good to soft, 20/1). Off 7 months and he's probably worth taking on. Career-best at Leopardstown last winter but lost his way since and off 212 days. |

2nd (9) (13/2 +59%) The King Of Prs |
13/2(+59%) | (9) The King Of Prs 13/2, Latest win in chase at Limerick in December. Below form fourth of 9 in handicap chase at this course (16.7f, heavy, 9/1). Off 8 months and looks vulnerable for win purposes. Won twice on testing ground last winter; lost way towards end of campaign; off 244 days. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (7/2 +22%) American Mike |
7/2(+22%) | (3) American Mike 7/2, 5/2, below form sixth of 18 in handicap chase at Navan (24.2f, good to soft) 13 days ago, finding little. Drop back in trip could be a good thing and will be a danger to all if on-song. Grade 2 novice winner last year; heavy defeats since including when well-backed for return. |

4th (8) (28/1 -133%) Railway Hurricane |
28/1(-133%) | (8) Railway Hurricane 28/1, Unreliable individual. Latest win in chase at Wexford in July. 9/4, 12¼ lengths third of 4 to The Big Chap in handicap chase at Gowran (16f, good) 21 days ago, finding little. Has work to do. Won over extended 2m3f at Wexford in summer; didn't jump well when dropped to 2m latest. |

5th (11) (12/1 +52%) Dont Go Yet |
12/1(+52%) | (11) Dont Go Yet 12/1, Below form eighth of 14 in handicap hurdle (11/1) at Galway (16f, heavy) 34 days ago. Switches from hurdles to chase and cheekpieces back on. Others preferred. Won last year's return before a 3rd in this and respectable return over timber latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (13/2 -8%) Rebel Gold |
13/2(-8%) | (5) Rebel Gold 13/2, C&D winner. Creditable second of 17 in handicap hurdle (16/1) at Cork (16.3f, good to soft) 27 days ago. Switches from hurdles to chase. Place possibilities. Gr 3 winner 2 seasons ago; respectable hurdle return and on fair mark back in this sphere. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (11/1 -100%) The Big Chap |
11/1(-100%) | (4) The Big Chap 11/1, C&D winner. Seven wins from 27 NH runs. Career best when winning 4-runner handicap chase (5/2) at Gowran (16f, good) 21 days ago, driven out. This is more demanding but couldn't rule out all the same. 4-11 over fences; landed 4-runner h'cap latest but this is tougher from career-high mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (9/2 +0%) Uncle Phil |
9/2(+0%) | (2) Uncle Phil 9/2, C&D winner. Five wins from 17 NH runs. Respectable sixth of 10 in handicap chase (11/1) at Ascot (16.8f, good) 28 days ago. High on the shortlist. Won from 8lb lower here in January; lost way prior to encouraging Ascot return; tough mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (7/1 +30%) Whiskeywealth |
7/1(+30%) | (6) Whiskeywealth 7/1, 15/2, creditable fifth of 14 in handicap hurdle at Galway (16f, heavy) 34 days ago. Switches from hurdles to chase and he's in with an each-way shout. Chase winner from 125 last term but tough mark now and would probably prefer softer ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (10/1 -25%) Visionarian |
10/1(-25%) | (1) Visionarian 10/1, 19½ lengths fourth of 5 to Envoi Allen in Champion Chase at Down Royal (24f, good to soft, 28/1) 28 days ago. Not without a chance in these calmer waters. One of 3 representing the Gavin Cromwell yard. 5-13 over fences; Gr 2 winner last month and ran okay in Gr 1 since; trip possibly sharp. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
VISIONARIAN ought to be a big player in this Listed handicap chase. He won a small-field Grade 2 at Gowran Park in October and that form was boosted when the runner-up came out and landed a Grade 3 in Punchestown. Visionarian then did as well as could be expected in fourth in a Grade 1 in Down Royal. American Mike is entitled to come on from his sixth in the Troytown on seasonal reappearance at Navan, especially as he ran well for a long way. Uncle Phil's last visit to Fairyhouse saw him scoop a Grade 3 handicap chase in January, while Jack Kennedy is a notable booking for The Big Chap who has won two of his last three over fences.
AMERICAN MIKE didn't find much when it came to the crunch on his recent reappearance at Naas but he's entitled to come on for that (was returning from an eight-month absence that day) and this drop back in trip could turn out to be a good move. Visionarian is of interest back in handicap company after contesting a Grade 1 at Down Royal and he is feared most ahead of Uncle Phil and The Big Chap.
REBEL GOLD has come down to a fair mark in this sphere and his promising return over timber should put him spot on for this

1st (1) (8/15 +57%) Dameofthecotswolds |
8/15(+57%) | (1) Dameofthecotswolds 8/15, Bumper winner who has improved again over hurdles this term, making it 2 wins from her last 3 starts with a stylish success in a mares' novice at Ludlow (21.2f, good to soft). Rider takes off handy 7 lb and she's very much the one to beat. Took form to whole new level when winning easily at Ludlow last month; obvious contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (4/1 -33%) Millie Supreme |
4/1(-33%) | (5) Millie Supreme 4/1, £30,000 purchase after winning 3 of 6 starts in Irish points and found just one too strong on hurdles debut at Carlisle (2½m, good to soft), in turn pulling clear of the rest. Should make her presence felt. Three point wins; clear second to promising rival on recent hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (9/1 +10%) Rialannah |
9/1(+10%) | (6) Rialannah 9/1, Remains a maiden following 7 attempts in this sphere and while she was runner-up twice during the spring, this 5-y-o has failed to fire both starts since returning to action last month. Fair form when second twice in the spring but has disappointed twice this autumn. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (6/1 +0%) Bluey |
6/1(+0%) | (3) Bluey 6/1, Picked up for £27,000 after making it fifth time lucky in points in January. Hooded when scoring on subsequent Rules debut in a Plumpton bumper (17.8f, good to soft), making all, and she's of interest now switched to hurdles. Goes without headgear this time. Point/bumper winner; ought to make an impact over hurdles sooner rather than later. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (66/1 -164%) Aunty Christine |
66/1(-164%) | (2) Aunty Christine 66/1, Little impact in a couple of bumpers and she was beaten a fair way when third of 7 on hurdles debut in a 19.6f Huntingdon novice on return earlier this month. Probably more one for the longer term. Shaped with significant promise before weakening on recent seasonal/hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (33/1 -175%) Swallowfields |
33/1(-175%) | (7) Swallowfields 33/1, Attracted plenty of support ahead of her introduction in a Uttoxeter bumper in April but she was safely held. In good hands and will probably leave that form well behind in time but sizeable step forward will be needed if she's to make a winning hurdles debut. Shaped with some promise on bumper debut but improvement is needed on this hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (200/1 -300%) Troubleisontheway |
200/1(-300%) | (8) Troubleisontheway 200/1, Well beaten starting out in a bumper last October and she didn't show much on debut in this sphere either. Has a good jumping pedigree but soundly beaten on first two starts (bumper/hurdle). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (33/1 -65%) Jessie Jump Jet |
33/1(-65%) | (9) Jessie Jump Jet 33/1, Fair fourth of 9 in a bumper on debut at Huntingdon in May and also offered something to work on when third in a Uttoxeter maiden hurdle (15.8f, good to soft) at the begining of this month. Still, she will probably come into her own in handicaps in due course. Ran well for a long way when third (well held in the end) on hurdling debut; has potential. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
After a double in point-to-points, MILLIE SUPREME made a highly-encouraging start to her career under Rules when runner-up to what looked a talented sort at Carlisle. The slight drop in trip on this occasion is likely to suit and she gets the vote ahead of Dameofthecotswolds, who has taken her form to a new level this season but the recent Ludlow winner has to concede plenty of weight all round here. A comfortable winner of a bumper at Plumpton in April, Bluey is one to monitor for market support or her hurdles bow.
It probably wasn't the strongest of races that DAMEOFTHECOTSWOLDS won at Ludlow but she nevertheless did the job well and is taken to follow up here. Millie Supreme, who made an encouraging Rules debut when second to a potentially useful type at Carlisle, gets the nod ahead of bumper winner Bluey for forecast purposes.
After a very comfortable success at Ludlow five weeks ago, DAMEOFTHECOTSWOLDS looks good enough to overcome her 10lb penalty here.

1st (1) (10/11 +48%) Skyjack Hijack |
10/11(+48%) | (1) Skyjack Hijack 10/11, Very progressive hurdler who readily completed a 5-timer in 5-runner novice hurdle at Exeter (22f, good) 19 days ago. Much respected once again. Had form figures of 21111 in handicaps before adding to his tally in a novice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (6/4 +55%) Zanndabad |
6/4(+55%) | (4) Zanndabad 6/4, Useful on Flat and shaped well when sixth of 30 in Irish Cesarewitch at the Curragh on most recent outing. Fairly useful over hurdles, finding only one too good in a Musselburgh handicap in February and an Ascot maiden (19.2f) in March. Remains with potential. Smart Flat handicapper and has run well over hurdles despite retaining maiden status. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (6/1 0%) Kepler's Law |
6/1(0%) | (3) Kepler's Law 6/1, Won his sole start in Irish points and shaped with a good deal of encouragement switched to Rules when third of 9 in an Aintree novice (20f) 3 weeks ago. Open to improvement. Easy point winner who shaped with considerable promise over 2m4f at Aintree. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (66/1 -230%) Travis Wheatley |
66/1(-230%) | (6) Travis Wheatley 66/1, Point winner in May and shaped encouragingly switched to Rules when second in 8-runner bumper at this course last month. Upped appreciably in trip for hurdles debut. Favourite when second in his bumper here but faces no easy task on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (40/1 -186%) How About No |
40/1(-186%) | (5) How About No 40/1, Fairly useful on Flat (stays 1½m) and similar form when placed all 4 starts in maiden hurdles, though did hang badly left early final circuit at Fairyhouse on most recent outing. Sold from Joseph Patrick O'Brien's yard for £32,000 afterwards. Ex-Irish Flat winner who has been consistent in defeat over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (11/1 -267%) Evaluation |
11/1(-267%) | (2) Evaluation 11/1, Useful handicapper on Flat (stays 16.5f) who made a seamless transition to hurdles with a tongue strap retained when landing the odds in 7-runner novice at Ayr (2m) 17 days ago. Should make considerable progress. 2m novice winner; Flat ability is much respected and he should stay this far. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
SKYJACK HIJACK has progressed at a rate of knots since winning at Cartmel in August. Four further victories have seen his handicap mark rise a total of 35lb and while the son of Jet Away shows no signs of slowing down, he could complete a six-timer. That said, talented Flat performer Evaluation wasn't the most fluent when making a successful hurdles debut at Ayr last month, so he could be dangerous with natural improvement. Zanndabad was last seen finishing sixth in the Irish Cesarewitch and he is respected now back hurdling.
KEPLER'S LAW shaped with a good deal of encouragement when third at Aintree 3 weeks ago and, with the timefigure supporting the performance, he makes a fair amount of appeal, not least with the step up in trip promising to suit. Zanndabad remains with potential as a hurdler, while Skyjack Hijack has been thriving of late and warrants plenty of respect, also.
Skyjack Hijack will no doubt attempt to make all but ZANNDABAD is a class horse and a winner waiting to happen over hurdles.

1st (4) (4/6 +17%) The New Lion |
4/6(+17%) | (4) The New Lion 4/6, Bred to stay well but showed no shortage of speed when winning a Market Rasen bumper on debut in April. Again looked an excellent prospect on return when scooting clear in 14-runner novice at Chepstow (19.4f, good to soft) last month and looks sure to go on to much better things. Clocked a good time at Chepstow and connections already have eyes on some fancy targets. |

2nd (1) (7/2 +0%) Califet En Vol |
7/2(+0%) | (1) Califet En Vol 7/2, Cost plenty after finishing runner-up on his only outing in Irish points and having shaped encouragingly in an Ayr bumper in April, looked a smart prospect when bolting up in 6-runner novice at Kempton (21f, good to soft) on hurdling debut earlier in the month. Rates a very smart prospect. Won in a canter on hurdling debut at Kempton; in top hands and he could be anything. |

3rd (2) (16/1 +20%) Electric Mason |
16/1(+20%) | (2) Electric Mason 16/1, Point recruit who opened his account in bumpers at Kempton back in February. Stuck to his task nicely when runner-up on hurdles debut at Uttoxeter last month and went one better with a gritty display in 14-runner novice at Fontwell (17.7f, good to soft) recently. Can progress further. Should appreciate this longer trip but the win was just workmanlike at Fontwell last time. |

4th (5) (4/1 +20%) French Ship |
4/1(+20%) | (5) French Ship 4/1, Bumper winner at Haydock in May who built on his hurdling debut promise when winning 11-runner novice at Chepstow (19.4f, good to soft) earlier this month, staying on well and by no means yet the finished article. The runner-up that day won at Wetherby earlier this week and he can progress again. Beat a talented mare (won this week) at Chepstow and the pair were miles clear. |

28/1(-56%) | (3) Silver Thorn 28/1, Reached the frame in 2 bumpers earlier in the year and made a successful hurdle debut in a 2¾m Stratford maiden (heavy) 6 weeks ago. That form was only fair, but he can better it. Lots more needed than at Stratford but he won well and brings potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (125/1 -25%) Springs A Girl |
125/1(-25%) | (6) Springs A Girl 125/1, A fair bumper winner who put her hurdling debut mishap well behind her (when hooded) in causing an 80/1 shock in 11-runner novice at Stratford (22f, good to soft) last month, sustaining her run to edge ahead close home. Faces a stiff task in this company, however. Shock Stratford winner who has the least convincing form credentials. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Cases can be made for all of these, but none more so than THE NEW LION, who created a big impression when winning easily on his hurdling debut over 2m3f at Chepstow a month ago. Dan Skelton's gelding is likely to have more improvement forthcoming and he can take this event on his way to bigger targets. Califet En Vol could prove to be the main threat following his 15-length success at Kempton, although Silver Thorn and French Ship should not be discounted.
A pre-Christmas cracker with all six arriving on the back of a recent win, but it's hard to escape the impression THE NEW LION left when scooting clear at Chepstow on hurdling debut last month, so he's fancied to maintain his unbeaten record for the red-hot Skelton outfit. Califet en Vol clearly learnt from his bumper effort back in the spring when bolting up on return/hurdling debut at Kempton recently, so he looks the obvious danger, with French Ship taken to fill out third.
Given what Dan Skelton has at his disposal, it's probably significant that his unbeaten THE NEW LION is held in such high regard.

A DREAM TO SHARE has to be of interest on hurdling debut after winning two Grade 1 bumpers among his substantial haul in that sphere. He is sure to be well schooled for this assignment, but will need to be on his game. Ballygunner Castle was the subject of a favourable report from Willie Mullins in a stable tour. Ideally, he would want further than this, but he did land a couple of bumpers in the spring. Don'tstopthemusic put a big field to the sword in a Punchestown bumper and that race has already thrown up a couple of maiden hurdle winners. Ballybow is match fit after striking in a Sligo bumper, while Sommesky, Harbour Highway and Ivybrook are others with claims.
Dual Grade 1 bumper winner A DREAM TO SHARE has seemingly had his problems but remains an exciting prospect now going hurdling. Fellow hurdling debutants Ballygunner Castle and Ballybow may emerge as the biggest threats.
Plenty of nice prospects here, notably A DREAM TO SHARE (nap) who won a high-class renewal of the 2023 Champion Bumper

1st (4) (7/2 +30%) Rightsotom |
7/2(+30%) | (4) Rightsotom 7/2, Looked promising in spring 2023 for Thomas Mullins and may have needed outing, back from 18 months off, when seventh at Ascot (15.7f) on debut for new yard 28 days ago. This run should reveal more. Lightly raced 5yo but was well held in Ascot handicap on comeback for new yard. |

2nd (1) (4/1 +38%) Samuel Spade |
4/1(+38%) | (1) Samuel Spade 4/1, Capitalised on the ease in grade when scoring at Huntingdon (20.6f) in March and was bac to form when third at Sandown recently. Jumping can't always be trusted but he's worthy of respect. 4-13 over hurdles; good third on return at Sandown and has claims if he can build on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (17/2 -143%) Bowling Buddy |
17/2(-143%) | (3) Bowling Buddy 17/2, Winning Irish pointer and most progressive over hurdles for Olly Murphy, getting the hat-trick up in a novice at Wetherby 45 days ago. Picked up for £58,000 by new connections and can continue the good work. 3-4 over hurdles and he joined new connections' for £58,000; respected on stable debut. |

4th (5) (6/1 -33%) Nordic Tiger |
6/1(-33%) | (5) Nordic Tiger 6/1, French import who was firmly on the up when last seen, signing off with another win at Southwell 7 months ago. Should be well prepared for this by shrewd yard and there may be more to come. Three wins from last four starts and he could continue on the upgrade this winter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (15/8 +17%) Yellow Car |
15/8(+17%) | (2) Yellow Car 15/8, Point winner who overcame lingering greenness to make a successful start over hurdles at Newton Abbot (21.5f) in July. Bettered that form both starts since, resuming winning ways in a 5-runner novice at Fontwell a couple of months ago, and opening mark looks lenient. Record of 2-3 over hurdles and he's open to progress on handicap debut; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (80/1 -220%) Kayce Dutton |
80/1(-220%) | (6) Kayce Dutton 80/1, Hurdles winner for Margaret Mullins but only fourth in a novice on debut for this yard and has been off a further 14 months since, so others are more appealing. Unexposed 6yo but he's back from a long layoff and this is competitive on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (40/1 -21%) Romeo Brown |
40/1(-21%) | (7) Romeo Brown 40/1, Long time without a win and hasn't fired yet this season, so others are more persuasive. On reduced mark but he has lots to prove and needs a major turnaround. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (10/1 -25%) Irish Lullaby |
10/1(-25%) | (8) Irish Lullaby 10/1, Fairly useful stayer on Flat for Jessica Harrington. Bought for 65,000 gns in December and went 2-3 over hurdles when landing the odds in a 2m1f mares' novice at Cartmel in May. Not in same form since returning but too soon to write off. Still has potential over hurdles but she needs to find more over this stiffer stamina test. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
A number of these arrive in good form, none more so than Bowling Buddy, who took his record under Rules to 3-4 when on target at Wetherby last month. He merits plenty of respect along with recent Fontwell scorer Yellow Car, but the vote goes to RIGHTSOTOM. Highly-tried last season, with his standout performance being a fourth-placed finish in a Grade 1 at Aintree, the son of Maxios has since joined Joe Tizzard. Outpaced over an extended 1m7f on his return at Ascot earlier this month, a step up in trip promises to suit and a 3lb ease in the ratings ought to aid his chance too.
YELLOW CAR looks really progressive and may have been let in lightly off an opening mark of 124, so he's preferred to Bowling Buddy, who searches for a four-timer debuting for new connections. Nordic Tiger is also on the up and could play a part.
This looks highly competitive but YELLOW CAR may be able to make it 3-4 over hurdles and he gets the vote ahead of Bowling Buddy.

Definite player. Three wins (3m1f/3m) from last four starts and he's a brother to a 3m4f winner; respected. |

2nd (7) (3/1 +25%) Jem In Em |
3/1(+25%) | (7) Jem In Em 3/1, Consistent hurdler but stepped up on his return/chase debut run when fourth of 10 in handicap at Kelso 55 days ago, even a well-run 3¼m not getting near the bottom of him. Demands of this sort of test look sure to suit and respected with blinkers replacing cheekpieces. 6yo who could relish the step up in trip; well treated on hurdle form; possible player. |

10/3(+5%) | (3) Breakdance Kid 10/3, Ran away with a Hexham handicap in June and back to winning ways with another impressive display at Kelso three weeks ago. 4th (1) (5/1 +0%) Jerrash |
5/1(+0%) | (1) Jerrash 5/1, Recorded back-to-back wins at Bangor and Market Rasen this summer and good effort when runner-up at Sedgefield last time. Expected to be involved again. In and out this season but went very close in the 3m5f Durham National last month. |

Likely to give his running again and he's unexposed at marathon trips. He's finished placed a lot more often than he's won but he might not be far away. |

150/1(-88%) | (5) Clonguile Way 150/1, One-time fair chaser but ended his time with John McConnell out of sorts back in spring 2023 and laboured at Wetherby on debut for new yard a fortnight ago. Others make more appeal. 11yo who was tailed off at 66-1 at Wetherby a fortnight ago when back from a long absence. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
It may have been over a distance much shorter than this, but BREAKDANCE KID impressed when getting back to winning ways over an extended 2m5f at Kelso earlier in the month and he looks just the type to continue improving off 7lb higher. The six-year-old won over 3m at Hexham in June and gives the impression he could relish this extreme trip. Beaten a neck in the Durham National last month, Jerrash is entitled to be thereabouts again, as is the progressive Ilikedwayurthinkin, who has won three of his last four starts.
BREAKDANCE KID continues to improve and made a good impression when scoring in dominant fashion at Kelso three weeks ago. This markedly longer trip is an unknown but he's capable of going in again if he gets it. Ilikedwayurthinkin is a threat and Jerrash should give another good account.
The step up in trip could be just what JEM IN EM needs and he's well handicapped on his hurdle form.

4/1(+0%) | (5) Impose Toi 4/1, Progressive hurdler who made a winning return at Cheltenham (16.4f) 12 months ago and likely he'd have followed up had he jumped better when chasing home stablemate Luccia at Ascot (15.7f) a month later. Good third in Lanzarote final start in January and he's of interest on return. Placed in strong handicaps on final two starts despite mistakes; big player on return. |

4/1(+20%) | (8) Inthewaterside 4/1, Unbeaten in bumpers and, having landed 2 of his first 3 starts over hurdles, he improved further in defeat last spring, smashing third having forced a strong gallop in 19-runner handicap hurdle at Aintree (20f, soft) on final start. Worth considering on return/following wind op. Hood retained. Progressive, most recently third in Aintree handicap in April; had wind op; more to come. |

9/1(-6%) | (4) Anyharminasking 9/1, Ran up to form when third of 13 in 2m3f handicap at Cheltenham on his reappearance 5 weeks ago, although his finishing effort again wasn't strong even in first-time cheekpieces (retained). Entitled to strip fitter for that and possibilities here (runner-up 12 months ago). Losing run of nine but reappearance third at Cheltenham was encouraging. |

5th (1) (14/1 +13%) No Ordinary Joe |
14/1(+13%) | (1) No Ordinary Joe 14/1, Lightly raced 8-y-o who ended last term in good form, shaping much better than distance beaten suggests when seventh in Martin Pipe at the Festival in March. Record fresh a positive and there's a big handicap in him from this mark this season. Well handicapped and shaped well when last seen; good record fresh; market informative. |

11/2(+54%) | (9) Issam 11/2, Consistent sort who scored in the mud at Exeter (18.5f) and Wincanton (2½m) last season. Returned with a rallying fourth in last month's Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las (15.8f) but his revised mark does demand that little bit more. Back up in trip. Ran well on reappearance considering drop back to 2m not ideal; big contender back at 2m4f. |

7th (3) (66/1 -371%) Hubrisko |
66/1(-371%) | (3) Hubrisko 66/1, Useful hurdler/chaser for Willie Mullins, well served by front-running tactics when landing 6-runner Killarney maiden chase (23f, soft) in August of last year. Off since but stable's runners rarely lack for fitness and interesting if strong in betting back over timber. Tongue strap refitted. Listed bumper winner; scraped home in 2m Kempton novice in Jan; more to come in handicaps. |

9th (6) (80/1 -300%) Ivaldi |
80/1(-300%) | (6) Ivaldi 80/1, Lightly raced 6-y-o who found improvement under a switch to positive tactics when running out a ready winner of 14-runner handicap hurdle at Ascot (21.6f) in spring 2023. Things can't have been plain sailing to be absent subsequently but surprise where he not capable of better still. Useful effort to win Ascot handicap in April 2023 but not seen since. |

|PU| (10) (22/1 -38%) Spring Note |
22/1(-38%) | (10) Spring Note 22/1, Bumper winner who made light of a hefty rise in weights and took her record here to 3-3 when successful in 6-runner handicap (16.3f) back in March. Didn't last out back at this sort of trip at Cheltenham (20.2f) on final start in April and this rates a tough enough ask on seasonal bow. Well held at Cheltenham final start but 3-3 course record makes her dangerous to discount. |

Dan Skelton's yard has won two of the last four renewals and a bold bid is anticipated from LAC DE CONSTANCE. The eight-year-old was launching a strong challenge at Uttoxeter when falling at the last and could be bang there at the finish with a clear round. The consistent Guard The Moon can feature once again after finishing runner-up in a competitive handicap at Aintree, while the headstrong Inthewaterside will likely attempt to dominate from the front.
Unsurprisingly claims can be made for plenty with the narrow vote in favour of IMPOSE TOI. Last seen finishing a good third in the Lanzarote Hurdle at Kempton in January, he appeals as being on a handy mark and, having won on his reappearance last winter, he could be the way to go. Inthewaterside ran a cracker from the front when placed in a big field handicap at Aintree in the spring and he's a threat. Low-mileage Gentle Slopes and Lac de Constance complete the shortlist.
Several with chances. The suggestion is ISSAM, whose last two efforts represent strong form. \bImpose Toi\ is second choice.

1st (3) (5/2 +38%) Anzadam |
5/2(+38%) | (3) Anzadam 5/2, Authorized gelding who won a newcomers' event on hurdles debut at Bordeaux and much-improved when following up in juvenile event at Compiegne (16.9f) 13 months ago. Useful prospect now starting out for the powerful Willie Mullins yard with hood retained. Perfect 2-2 over hurdles in France; could be an exciting prospect for top yard; hooded. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (6/4 +40%) Kala Conti |
6/4(+40%) | (5) Kala Conti 6/4, Useful hurdler who was 3 from 5 as a juvenile and posted a career-best display after 9 months off when winning 18-runner handicap hurdle at Down Royal (16.9f, good to soft, 4/1) 28 days ago. A repeat gives her obvious claims. Won 2m1f handicap hurdle at Down Royal on return and Jack Kennedy prefers her to Wodhooh. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (18/1 -50%) Dodger Long |
18/1(-50%) | (4) Dodger Long 18/1, Fairly useful hurdler. 2 wins from 5 runs this season. 5/1, good 1¼ lengths second of 8 to Givemefive in minor event hurdle at Cheltenham (16.4f, good) 35 days ago. Meets that rival on 3 lb better terms here but this demands further progress in any case. Took a giant leap forward when splitting Givemefive and Bottler'secret at Cheltenham. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (11/1 -57%) Givemefive |
11/1(-57%) | (2) Givemefive 11/1, Useful hurdler who shaped encouragingly when runner-up on the level at Haydock (14f) in September and didn't need to improve on previous best in this sphere when proving 1¼ lengths too good for Dodger Long in class 2 event at Cheltenham 5 weeks ago. Likeable sort but more on his plate on these terms Got the better of Bottler'secret at Cheltenham but is 6lb worse off at the weights here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (3/1 +14%) Bottler'secret |
3/1(+14%) | (1) Bottler'secret 3/1, Progressive on the Flat and excellent start over hurdles, landing back-to-back graded contests before an excellent second in Punchestown Grade 1 in May. Returned with a respectable 1¾ lengths third of 8 to Givemefive in minor event hurdle at Cheltenham (16.4f) 35 days ago. In the mix. Better off at the weights with a couple of these on latest and any rain will be a big help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (33/1 -106%) Eagles Reign |
33/1(-106%) | (6) Eagles Reign 33/1, Fit from a pipe-opener on the Flat, posted a career best effort when doubling his tally in this sphere in 12-runner handicap hurdle (6/1) at Listowel (16f, soft) 65 days ago, always holding on. Each-way claims now upped in class. Won the Lartigue at Listowel on his favoured soft ground; will need the heavens to open. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (100/1 -100%) Scotcantou |
100/1(-100%) | (7) Scotcantou 100/1, Lightly-raced winner over hurdles. 14/1, career best when winning 12-runner novice hurdle at Galway (16.4f, good to soft) 35 days ago. Going the right way but this demands another marked step forward if he's to play a lead role. Dug deep when winning at Galway last month; likely to do better in handicaps. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
BOTTLER'SECRET had Givemefive over 14 lengths behind when landing a Grade 2 over C&D on heavy ground last Easter, although the places were reversed on a sounder surface at Cheltenham last month where Dodger Long split the pair in second. Givemefive had the benefit of a prep run on the Flat before that latest win, while the selection should have progressed from the outing and now has 'home' advantage. Kala Conti won a Grade 2 at Leopardstown last Christmas and made a successful reappearance in a valuable handicap at Down Royal earlier this month, while Anzadam won both hurdle outings in France last year and market support would be significant.
KALA CONTI resumed progress after 9 months off when successful on handicap debut at Down Royal 4 weeks ago and a repeat can likely see her play a lead role once more back in graded company. Anzadam, who was unbeaten in 2 starts in France, is an obvious danger on debut for Willie Mullins, along with Bottler'secret. Wodhooh, who boasts a record of 5-5 over timber, isn't dismissed lightly either.
The promise of rain bodes well for the chances of BOTTLER'SECRET, who was behind Givemefive and Dodger Long at Cheltenham

1st (1) (5/4 +50%) Slugger |
5/4(+50%) | (1) Slugger 5/4, Talented but quirky in time with Iain Jardine but looked more straightforward when capitalising on a reduced mark on first start for this yard in 10-runner handicap hurdle at Carlisle (17.2f) 27 days ago, responding well to a change of tactics. 7 lb higher but promises to go well again. Made all on stable debut at Carlisle (2m1f); up 7lb but he could be a major force again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (11/2 -38%) Crystal Glance |
11/2(-38%) | (7) Crystal Glance 11/2, Showed plenty to work on when third at Hereford on debut and confirmed that promise when scoring in maiden at Bangor (16.7f, good) in May. Followed up on Uttoxeter handicap debut 6 months later and is open to further improvement. Made it 2-3 over hurdles when beating a dual subsequent winner at Uttoxeter; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (11/1 +8%) Two To Tango |
11/1(+8%) | (6) Two To Tango 11/1, Showed fair form in pair of maiden hurdles last winter. Back on track when third in a 10-runner Wincanton handicap (15.2f, good) in October and ran to a similar level when filling same spot at Plumpton since. Third in two handicaps this autumn but he's now 0-6 over hurdles and needs to find more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (11/1 -57%) Prolific Profile |
11/1(-57%) | (3) Prolific Profile 11/1, Showed further improvement to complete the hat-trick in 14-runner handicap at Uttoxeter (15.8f, good to soft) in October, going with enthusiasm. Progressed again when runner-up at Aintree since and may do better still. Won three on a row before a good second behind a major improver at Aintree; key player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (10/1 -43%) Camarrate |
10/1(-43%) | (5) Camarrate 10/1, Fairly useful winner at 12f on Flat who got off the mark over hurdles at Fakenham in April and improved when defying a penalty at Sedgefield (16.8f) the following month. Shaped as if better for the run when third on handicap bow at Aintree recently and remains capable of better. Tongue tie goes on. Finished behind Prolific Profile at Aintree and needs to find more with tongue-tie added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (7/2 +75%) Coastguard Station |
7/2(+75%) | (4) Coastguard Station 7/2, Fairly useful chaser who wasn't seen to best effect back down in grade when fourth of 8 in handicap at Aintree (15.8f, good) 21 days ago, left poorly placed. Returns to hurdling from an appreciably lower mark with a promising claimer now on board. On lower mark back over hurdles but he's 1-10 in this sphere and has work to do. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (2) (11/1 -144%) Admiralty House |
11/1(-144%) | (2) Admiralty House 11/1, Free goer who made a good start over hurdles in 2022/23, winning Kempton juvenile (2m) prior to pair of placed efforts at Huntingdon/Ludlow. Proved he retains all his ability after almost 2 years off when second at Wincanton in October and needs respecting from only a 2 lb higher mark here. Unexposed hurdler who went close in Wincanton handicap on comeback last month; shortlisted. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Prolific Profile's winning run came to an end at Aintree three weeks ago but that defeat came at the hands of an improver and he merits respect despite going up a further 3lb in the handicap, though it is CRYSTAL GLANCE that shades preference. The four-year-old landed her maiden at Bangor in May before defeating a progressive rival at Uttoxeter recently. A 9lb hike in the ratings doesn't look overly harsh, especially given the featherweight she saddles today. Slugger heads the remainder.
CRYSTAL GLANCE is up in grade but saw off a subsequent winner with a bit up her sleeve at Uttoxeter and, hailing from a yard that has a good record of improving similar types, she's fancied to go in again. Admiralty House and Slugger head the dangers.
Preference is for the unexposed 4yo CRYSTAL GLANCE, who made it 2-3 over hurdles when beating a dual subsequent winner at Uttoxeter.

1st (7) (6/5 -9%) Sir Gino |
6/5(-9%) | (7) Sir Gino 6/5, French recruit who was most impressive in winning all 3 starts in Britain last term. Withdrawn from the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March (stable was under a cloud at that time) but back with a bang when landing an Aintree Grade 1 the following month. Obvious claims. Made it 4-4 with 4yo Grade 1 win at Aintree in April; top prospect for his leading yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (11/1 +21%) Lump Sum |
11/1(+21%) | (5) Lump Sum 11/1, Useful novice hurdler last season, including a win in the Grade 2 Dovecote at Kempton (2m, soft) in February. Put in his place behind Mystical Power at Aintree on final start of that campaign but looked good when landing a Ffos Las handicap on return last month. Not without each-way hope. Work to do with Mystical Power; won Welsh Champion Hurdle; each-way shout if dead 8 remain. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (25/1 +24%) Kihavah |
25/1(+24%) | (4) Kihavah 25/1, Likeable sort who was runner-up in the Summer Hurdle at Market Rasen in July. Also found just one to good on the level in the Ebor at York before landing a 13f Ayr handicap. Didn't do much wrong when chasing home Rubaud (winner again since) back hurdling at Kempton last time but this is a big ask. Listed second at Kempton last time but no match for the winner; up against it today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (18/1 +55%) Tellherthename |
18/1(+55%) | (8) Tellherthename 18/1, Point winner who showed plenty of promise switched to hurdles for Ben Pauling last season, winning twice. However, he was put firmly in his place when down the field in the Supreme at the Cheltenham Festival on latest start in March and big step forward needed on this return/yard debut, Plenty to prove at this level but unexposed and still has potential; frame possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (20/1 +29%) Take No Chances |
20/1(+29%) | (9) Take No Chances 20/1, Won twice during the spring and back from a break with a fine third in the Silver Trophy at Chepstow (19.5f, good to soft). Subsequently bolted up back at 2m in mares' listed race at Wetherby, which represented a clear career-best. Good deal more needed if she's to win this but live each-way chance. 10l win in Listed mares' hurdle at Wetherby 4 weeks ago; e-w claims if there's 8 runners. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (6/5 +13%) Mystical Power |
6/5(+13%) | (6) Mystical Power 6/5, Quickly made up into a top-drawer novice last season, suffering sole defeat when runner-up in the Supreme at the Cheltenham Festival in March. Successful in Grade 1s at the big Aintree and Punchestown meetings since, displaying a very good attitude on both occasions. Major player. Won two Grade 1 novice hurdles in the spring and holds leading claims on his return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (200/1 +0%) Benson |
200/1(+0%) | (1) Benson 200/1, Gained sixth win over hurdles at Musselburgh on New Year's Day but ended last season on a downer and started this campaign with a low-key display over fences. Six-time hurdle winner but he's likely to be outclassed even if bouncing back to his best. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
In the unfortunate absence of Constitution Hill, it may prove an ideal time for stablemate SIR GINO to announce himself on the big stage. An impressive three from three as a juvenile last season in Britain, including a Grade 1 success at Aintree on his latest start, the son of It's Gino looks a top-class prospect and connections may have made a shrewd decision in rerouting him from a novice chasing campaign. He has stiff opposition in the shape of Irish raider Mystical Power, though, who went on from a runner-up effort in the Supreme to land a pair of top-level successes at Aintree and Punchestown. Trainer Willie Mullins seems to have plenty of ammunition in this division, but this son of Galileo could be a dark horse in regards to the Champion Hurdle. Grade 2 winner Lump Sum could prove best of the remainder.
Despite Constitution Hill's absence, this prize still looks destined for the Nicky Henderson yard with SIR GINO taken to maintain his unbeaten record. Indeed, he could be something of a star himself judged on his exploits last term, which included an impressive performance in the Anniversary Hurdle at Aintree. Irish-raider Mystical Power, also a Grade 1 winner at the Grand National meeting, will ensure that this is a proper test for Sir Gino, while the mare Take No Chances makes each-way appeal.
Mystical Power and SIR GINO are both top-class prospects and preference is for Nicky Henderson's unbeaten 4yo.

1st (11) (15/2 +46%) Navajo Indy |
15/2(+46%) | (11) Navajo Indy 15/2, Fairly useful bumper winner who made the most of a good opportunity to open his account over hurdles at Wincanton (15.2f) in April. Took his form up a notch when defying a penalty at Bangor 7 months later, though was rather fortunate. Into handicaps now and ought to give his running once more. Goes into deeper waters on handicap debut but is improving steadily and could go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (6/1 +14%) Queens Gamble |
6/1(+14%) | (5) Queens Gamble 6/1, Listed bumper winner for Oliver Sherwood who won all 3 starts over hurdles for this yard last season, latterly in 6-runner listed event at Taunton (16.5f). Off 11 months but will go on improving and opening mark looks potentially lenient. Useful mare who has Listed-winning form in bumpers and over hurdles; 3-3 in this sphere. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (11/1 +21%) Our Champ |
11/1(+21%) | (3) Our Champ 11/1, Returned to his best with a recent run behind when coming out on top in a close finish in 10-runner handicap hurdle at Ascot (15.7f, good) 28 days ago, despite rider dropping his whip on the run-in. Prevailed narrowly at Ascot four weeks ago; faces stiffer task off career-high mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (9/1 +10%) Salver |
9/1(+10%) | (1) Salver 9/1, Developed into a very useful juvenile hurdler last term, winning his first 4 starts in the mud before posting a fine third in Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham final run. One to consider on his return. Useful juvenile hurdler last season, third in the Triumph on final start; possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (10/3 +26%) Jeriko Du Reponet |
10/3(+26%) | (4) Jeriko Du Reponet 10/3, Successful sole start in points and looked a fine prospect when winning his 3 starts over hurdles, including a Grade 2 at Doncaster. Pulled up in Supreme at Cheltenham and played up beforehand when running no sort of race on chasing bow at Sandown on return. Still of interest back over hurdles. Perhaps best to forgive last two runs; unbeaten previously and is 2-2 over C&D; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (9/1 -29%) Liari |
9/1(-29%) | (6) Liari 9/1, Fairly useful on Flat in France and similar form when winning all 3 starts in juvenile hurdles for this yard, latterly at Musselburgh in February. Held back by jumping in Fred Winter at Cheltenham but shaped well when third at Chepstow (2m) on return and interesting with that under his belt. 3-4 in juvenile hurdles last term; likely to improve on Chepstow reappearance effort. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (20/1 -67%) The Famous Five |
20/1(-67%) | (10) The Famous Five 20/1, Fairly useful Flat winner in France who was going the right way over hurdles when last seen, readily landing handicaps at Leicester in January and Bangor in March. Has an 8-month absence to overcome in a deeper race but could have more to offer for a yard that has clicked into gear lately. Ended his 2023-24 campaign with two comfortable wins; open to further improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (18/1 +64%) Ballybentragh |
18/1(+64%) | (8) Ballybentragh 18/1, Irish point winner who made a successful start over hurdles at Sandown in January. Good efforts under a penalty next 2 starts prior to facing a stiff task in Aintree Grade 1. Opening mark not overly generous but he has the physique to go on improving this season, not least when sent chasing. Possibly not crying out for this marked drop back in distance; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) (11/1 -38%) Excelero |
11/1(-38%) | (12) Excelero 11/1, Chased home Salver at Warwick on debut then Sir Gino at Cheltenham (fourth) before making the most of a good opportunity back down in grade at Market Rasen in March. Still looked raw when third under a penalty at Kempton on final outing and remains with potential. Unexposed 4yo who has solid form and looks attractively treated; interesting contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (9/1 +25%) Aston Martini |
9/1(+25%) | (9) Aston Martini 9/1, Bumper winner who also landed her first 2 starts over hurdles last winter. Possibly unsuited by more testing conditions when a remote fourth in Sandown Grade 2 in February and resumed her progress sent handicapping when runner-up at Bangor (19.6f) recently, still finding when jinking at the last. 3-4 in her first season last term; ran well at Bangor on reappearance; may improve further. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (13) (50/1 -213%) Castelfort |
50/1(-213%) | (13) Castelfort 50/1, Showed fairly useful form when winning a pair of juvenile events last season. Found his good run of form coming to a halt on handicap debut at Sandown on final outing and reappears in a strong-looking event. May still have more to offer but David Noonan prefers stablemate Excelero. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (7) (11/1 +21%) Ooh Betty |
11/1(+21%) | (7) Ooh Betty 11/1, Three wins last season, including a Hereford handicap, and ended her campaign with a series of good placed efforts. Has a breathing operation prior to making a successful reappearance in 7-runner handicap at Sandown (2m) but this will require another step forward. Won at Sandown on seasonal debut; consistent but faces a tougher task off new mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (2) (12/1 +40%) Ballee |
12/1(+40%) | (2) Ballee 12/1, Impressed when winning a brace of 2m Taunton novices last term and ran a cracker when second on handicap bow at Aintree in April, displaying a great attitude. Pulled up at Haydock when last seen but almost certainly found that coming too soon and returns with yard in fine form. Had breathing op. Absent since pulled up in the Swinton (had wind surgery soon after); market helpful. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
JERIKO DU REPONET disappointed at Sandown on his reappearance but Nicky Henderson's charge looks worth another chance. A Grade 2 novice hurdle winner, he can enhance his lofty reputation by bouncing back to form on the switch to timber. Liari will likely be sharper for his third at Chepstow and looks on a workable mark, while Queens Gamble is worth noting on her handicap debut having won all three starts over hurdles so far including a Listed event at Taunton. Salver could also go well despite carrying top weight.
BALLEE showed plenty of ability over hurdles last season, including when shaping best in a big-field handicap at Aintree in the spring and, with his final run at Haydock easily excused, he's an appealing candidate returning with his yard firmly amongst the winners. Unbeaten hurdler Queens Gamble has an 11-month absence to overcome but her opening BHA mark could easily underestimate her, while Our Champ won in a good time at Ascot and completes the shortlist.
In a competitive Gerry Feilden the vote goes to interesting 4yo EXCELERO, ahead of Liari who is a similar type.

STORMBREAKER stayed well on the Flat, winning twice for James Fanshawe, and following a lengthy absence, has gradually progressed in three outings for current connections. The selection put in an improved round of jumping when landing a 2m2f maiden at Listowel and should be suited by this longer trip. Apple's Of Bresil has always been held in good regard and Barry Connell indicated he prefers conventional hurdles after easily winning a Gowran maiden last month. Disco Dancer (second) and Run For Harry (third) were only separated by a neck when placed behind Sonny May (won again since) at Gowran, while Palamon and Brave Fortune are others to consider.
DISCO DANCER ran another fine race when beaten only by a subsequent winner at Gowran 3 weeks ago, so he's the percentage call to go one better. Stuntman Steve and Stormbreaker are a couple of potential threats in an open-looking affair.
APPLE'S OF BRESIL took his form to new heights when bolting up over this trip at Gowran last month and should take all the beating

1st (3) (15/8 +44%) Stans The Man |
15/8(+44%) | (3) Stans The Man 15/8, Belatedly added to maiden hurdle success back in January 2023 when landing a 3¼m Warwick handicap in September and overcame a mixed round of jumping to make his first completed start over fences a winning one in first-time blinkers at Exeter 12 days ago. Remans unexposed as a chaser. Unexposed chaser who won by 8l at Exeter last time and a 5lb rise looks fair. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (13/8 +41%) Finn Lough |
13/8(+41%) | (5) Finn Lough 13/8, Shaped well on several occasions over hurdles and all the better for chasing debut when length second at Warwick/Huntingdon last 2 starts. Player. Close second in the last two of his three chase runs and he's still unexposed as a stayer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (6/1 +0%) Taste The Fear |
6/1(+0%) | (1) Taste The Fear 6/1, Winner of back-to-back handicap chases at Southwell (both over 24.3f) during the spring. Stepped up on hurdles run when fourth at Wetherby 4 weeks ago and not ruled out eased another 2 lb. Triple chase winner but he looks weighted near best and others are preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (11/2 -100%) Red Nika |
11/2(-100%) | (2) Red Nika 11/2, Point winner who ran creditably back under Rules for the first time in 3 years when fourth in a Chepstow hunter in April. Built on that at the second attempt back from another break when just denied there 24 days ago and this low-mileage 9-y-o can go one better. Up 5lb for Chepstow second but he was only just caught and is still unexposed over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (14/1 +44%) Aquila Sky |
14/1(+44%) | (6) Aquila Sky 14/1, Fairly useful hurdler who produced his best effort to date over fences when a close third in a 26.3f Chepstow handicap during the spring. However, it was all rather laboured tried in cheekpieces at Bangor next time and well held at Uttoxeter on return. On workable mark but he's hard to predict and was tailed off at Uttoxeter on recent return. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
STANS THE MAN made amends for unseating at Bangor when getting off the mark at the third attempt over fences at Exeter. The seven-year-old has to contend with a 5lb rise from the handicapper, but it would be no surprise if he stepped forward again from that performance. Betterforeveryone won here in February and is entitled to strip fitter for his Chepstow return, while Finn Lough is expected to be competitive following a brace of runner-up efforts.
RED NIKA was clear of the rest when collared late on at Chepstow and can go one better if seeing out this longer trip. This does look competitive, though, with Stans The Man and Finn Lough heading the dangers.
Top of the list is STANS THE MAN (nap), who made it third-time lucky over fences when forging clear in blinkers at Exeter 12 days ago.

1st (7) (11/4 +66%) Small Town Kid |
11/4(+66%) | (7) Small Town Kid 11/4, €42,000 3-y-o, €54,000 5-y-o, Getaway gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to Welsh National winner Monbeg Dude and useful chaser (stays 3¼m) Its On The Line. Irish point winner in March (has had breathing operation since). May be one for the longer term. Bought for 54,000euros after Irish maiden point win; one to consider on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (11/2 -175%) Blackwater Lilly |
11/2(-175%) | (9) Blackwater Lilly 11/2, Improved from bumper debut when runner-up to a next-time-out winner at Uttoxeter in July, before finding only a newcomer too strong at Kelso (16.2f, good) in September. Makes plenty of appeal as she switches to hurdling. Second in good-ground bumpers the last twice and she's a major player if taking to hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (1/1 +64%) Jeune Prince |
1/1(+64%) | (4) Jeune Prince 1/1, Promise both starts in bumpers and, after 7 months off, also showed encouragement on hurdling debut when fourth of 10 in novice at Carlisle (17.2f, soft) in October. Form from last time working out well and he's a major player. Fourth on hurdle debut at Carlisle in a race that is working out well; leading claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (25/1 -39%) Willie Shake Hands |
25/1(-39%) | (8) Willie Shake Hands 25/1, Third in an Irish bumper on sole outing for Ciaran Murphy and again hinted at ability making second start over hurdles when sixth of 9 in maiden at Carlisle (17.2f, good to soft) 19 days ago. Will be of more appeal in handicaps, though. Hasn't shown enough on his two hurdle starts this autumn to suggest he's the one to be on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (20/1 -233%) Wendywilldo |
20/1(-233%) | (10) Wendywilldo 20/1, Bit of promise when making the frame in a Catterick bumper on debut and stepped forward from that effort when winning at Sedgefield (16.8f, heavy) in March. Could be in the mix as she goes hurdling after 8 months off. Won Sedgefield bumper in March and entitled to respect on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (40/1 -122%) Long Time Listener |
40/1(-122%) | (6) Long Time Listener 40/1, Point bumper winner but finished a remote sixth in a bumper under Rules at this course (16.9f, heavy) in March. The betting is perhaps the best guide now hurdling after 9 months off. Won a point-to-point bumper but well beaten in rules bumper since; now goes hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (125/1 -525%) Forsa Bay |
125/1(-525%) | (2) Forsa Bay 125/1, Made some appeal on paper and attracted support, but offered little first time up when well-beaten tenth of 11 in bumper at Wetherby (16f, heavy) in February. Makes hurdles debut after 10 months off. Tailed off in bumper on sole run but attracted support; interesting to see market strength. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (12/1 -100%) Gorvennec |
12/1(-100%) | (3) Gorvennec 12/1, Irish point winner who showed more than on bumper debut when third of 7 in novice at Ayr (16f, good to soft) on hurdles bow 17 days ago, the winner a useful stayer on the Flat. Merits consideration with that behind him. Point winner who could build upon hurdle debut third, but improvement is certainly needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (66/1 -32%) Authorized Mission |
66/1(-32%) | (1) Authorized Mission 66/1, No better than mid-division in a trio of bumpers for Iain Jardine. After 7 months off ahead of stable/hurdling debut, in need of the experience when sixth of 10 in maiden at Hexham (20.1f, good to soft) 22 days ago. Has work to do. Unable to threaten in bumpers and tailed off on this month's hurdle debut at Hexham. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Jeune Prince is arguably the pick of those with hurdling experience but the level he sets is not very high. As a result, preference is for BLACKWATER LILLY, who was finished second in two bumpers this season already and may have more to offer. Small Town Kid won between the flags and has to be noted on his Rules debut.
JEUNE PRINCE improved on his form in bumpers at the first attempt over hurdles when fourth in a Carlisle novice last month, with three subsequent winners coming out of the race, so he is taken to open his account with further progress to come. Blackwater Lilly wasn't beaten far on her last 2 starts in bumpers and could be the main danger, ahead of Gorvennec.
Two-time bumper runner-up BLACKWATER LILLY makes her hurdle debut and earns the vote ahead of Jeune Prince.

1st (9) (8/1 +6%) Kandoo Kid |
8/1(+6%) | (9) Kandoo Kid 8/1, Won a 2½m course handicap last December. Ended his season with fine placed efforts in Greatwood here (2½m again) and Topham at Aintree (21f). Ran poorly on previous attempt at 3m but the way he stuck on in the Topham suggests longer trips should be within range this season. Has had wind surgery. Consistent novice chaser last season; record of 212 at Newbury bodes well; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (4/1 +43%) Broadway Boy |
4/1(+43%) | (7) Broadway Boy 4/1, Three wins in a productive novice chase campaign, including a valuable staying handicap at Cheltenham. Reappeared with a respectable 12¼ lengths third of 14 to Senior Chief there (25f, good) 35 days ago. Should improve with Cheltenham reappearance under his belt; the type to win a big prize. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (12) (5/1 +29%) Victtorino |
5/1(+29%) | (12) Victtorino 5/1, French import who won back to back over 3m at Ascot for Venetia Williams at this time last year, latterly the valuable Silver Cup. Ended his campaign with a disappointing run at the Cheltenham Festival but no surprise were he to resume his progression back from a break with the yard going well. Record last season suggests this is the time to catch him; interesting on reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (9/1 +25%) General En Chef |
9/1(+25%) | (6) General En Chef 9/1, Smart French chaser who was back to his best when third in the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris at Auteuil in May. Two good runs at Compiegne this autumn, including a Group 3 win. Looks on a feasible mark for his first run in Britain. Trained in France; has a record of 3-6 since joining current yard; could go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (13) (12/1 0%) Henry's Friend |
12/1(0%) | (13) Henry's Friend 12/1, Recorded a hat-trick in novice chases last season, including a Grade 2 at Ascot. Pulled up in National Hunt Chase on final outing and last of 4 in 3m course handicap on reappearance 23 days ago. The return to fences should suit but others have less to prove. Remains open to further progress back over fences; 3-5 in this sphere and has won here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (9/2 +36%) Senior Chief |
9/2(+36%) | (3) Senior Chief 9/2, Useful hurdler and quickly made up into a better chaser, bouncing back from a flop in the Irish Grand National when making a winning reappearance in 25f Cheltenham handicap 5 weeks ago. That was only his fifth start over fences so surprise if there isn't more to come. A must for the shortlist. Took well to first-time cheekpieces at Cheltenham on reappearance; may have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) (14/1 -40%) Galia Des Liteaux |
14/1(-40%) | (11) Galia Des Liteaux 14/1, Listed/Graded winner who showed she can also mix it in competitive handicaps when second in the Classic Chase at Warwick (19f) in January. Shaped well when second in 2½m Carlisle mares' listed chase on reappearance and the step back up in trip is sure to suit. Considered. Good staying mare; Welsh National is apparently the main aim but she's not dismissed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (33/1 -50%) Grandero Bello |
33/1(-50%) | (8) Grandero Bello 33/1, Doubled his tally over fences when making light of an 8-month absence in 22.5f Galway handicap 5 weeks ago. The form has been boosted by the third winning since. Better than ever at Galway last month; faces a stiffer task off new mark in this field. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (12/1 0%) Horantzau D'airy |
12/1(0%) | (4) Horantzau D'airy 12/1, Won twice over fences in the spring and has shown better form in defeat this season, finishing runner-up in Kerry and Munster Nationals (both 3m) on his last 2 outings. Merits plenty of respect for his top Irish stable. Good second in the Kerry National and Munster National; threatening to win a major race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (10) (33/1 +0%) Remastered |
33/1(+0%) | (10) Remastered 33/1, Runner-up in this race in 2022. Last season was a write-off (including pulled up in this) but he bounced back to form to take advantage of his reduced mark on his Wincanton reappearance in October. Still going okay when fell 4 out in Badger Beer back there since. Has a mixed record (F2P) in this contest and now has the age stats against him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (1) (16/1 +52%) Sam Brown |
16/1(+52%) | (1) Sam Brown 16/1, Smart veteran chaser who won 3m handicaps at Warwick and Ascot last season. Returned with a fine third in the Charlie Hall at Wetherby 4 weeks ago. Visor refitted now. Plenty to admire about his enthusiasm but some performance will be needed to defy top weight as he approaches his 13th birthday. Gained both wins last term in veterans' events; no 12yo has won this prize. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (5) (10/1 -11%) Colonel Harry |
10/1(-11%) | (5) Colonel Harry 10/1, Likeable type who took the Grade 2 Towton novice at Wetherby (2½m) last winter. Sound reappearance run in a Carlisle Listed event 4 weeks ago, shaping as if a return to a left-handed track will suit (jumped left). His stamina is an unknown but his trainer knows what it takes to win this. Very similar to last year's winner, for the same connections; interesting contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (2) (28/1 -100%) Midnight River |
28/1(-100%) | (2) Midnight River 28/1, Signed off a fine 2022/23 season by landing 25f Grade 3 handicap at the Aintree Grand National meeting. Off for 11 months after a fall in this race last year but shaped as if retaining his ability when third of 4 in 19f Wetherby handicap 4 weeks ago. Has first-time cheekpieces added to tongue strap. Fell in this race last year and Harry Skelton prefers the stable's other runner. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Jamie Snowden bids for back-to-back victories in the contest with COLONEL HARRY, who boasts a very similar profile to Datsalrightgino having raced over shorter trips last season. A Grade 2 winner of the Towton at Wetherby, his form tailed off in the spring before making an ideal return to action when runner-up in the Colin Parker at Carlisle. The seven-year-old may have a bigger performance in the locker now stepping up in trip. Cheltenham winner Senior Chief is 10lb worse off with Broadway Boy (third) but a drying surface may not suit the latter and the main threat to the selection is Victtorino, who won fresh last season at Ascot and represents a stable which enjoyed a trio of big-race winners last Saturday.
Venetia Williams has her team in form so perhaps the reappearing VICTTORINO, who has gone well fresh before, can take advantage of a mark which has dipped to only 1 lb higher than when landing another valuable handicap last December. Senior Chief should have more to offer on the back of last month's Cheltenham success and is second choice ahead of Galia des Liteaux.
It's worth siding with KANDOO KID (nap), who brings lots of positives. Colonel Harry is second choice, ahead of Victtorino.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
FALCON EIGHT hasn't raced over hurdles for nearly two years but retains plenty of ability on the Flat and appears on a reasonable mark. The Dermot Weld-trained gelding has run only six times over flights, including being beaten less than a length when third in a Grade 2 over C&D, and was competing off a Flat rating of 101 when placed in a valuable 2m Naas handicap last month. Farmers Lodge showed promise in maiden hurdles before successfully switching to fences here earlier this year. He reverts to hurdles off an attractive rating compared to his chase mark, while others for the shortlist include In For The Night, Tonaghneave Well, Golden Joy and Old Bill Barley.
TONAGHNEAVE WELL found further progress when second in a Navan handicap last time and this longer trip is in his favour, so he gets the nod in a competitive event. Old Bill Barley, Aeros Lucm and Warm In Gorey are all feasible threats.
A bit of a lottery but the step up in trip should suit TONAGHNEAVE WELL and his recent consistency can be rewarded

2nd (11) (40/1 -60%) Rose's Dart |
40/1(-60%) | (11) Rose's Dart 40/1, Dartmouth filly. Dam (c150/h117) 2m-2¾m hurdle/chase winner. Likely to need time. Fifth foal; dam 2m-2m6f hurdle/smart chase winner; seemingly the stable first string. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (14/1 +58%) Crystal Spring |
14/1(+58%) | (2) Crystal Spring 14/1, Dam placed in bumpers/over hurdles, half-sister to high-class hurdler/top-class chaser (stayed 21f) Simonsig. From a good family and showed ability when sixth in a Stratford bumper a month ago. Could do better. Was prominent but weakened at Stratford, finishing just behind Girl Of Gold. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (15/2 +70%) Regal River |
15/2(+70%) | (10) Regal River 15/2, Golden Horn filly. Half-sister to 3 winners on Flat, including 7f winner Jousi. Dam, 7f (at 2 yrs)-8.4f winner, half-sister to fairly useful hurdler Secret World. Should have the pace for this sort of test. Half-sister to three useful winners on the Flat and dam was Listed class. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (11/2 +45%) Girl Of Gold |
11/2(+45%) | (5) Girl Of Gold 11/2, Half-sister to 4 winners, including fair hurdler/useful chaser Cubomania. Fifth in a bumper at Stratford a month ago and in good hands, so likely has a bigger performance in her. 4-1 at Stratford but hung left for pressure and dropped out of the picture (beaten 14l). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (6/1 -20%) Laura Lou |
6/1(-20%) | (8) Laura Lou 6/1, From quite a good family and there was something to work on when sixth at Huntingdon first time out. Open to improvement and can't be discounted. Momentarily threatened but was beaten 8l in a good-ground bumper at Huntingdon (11-1). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (5/2 -11%) Latopix |
5/2(-11%) | (1) Latopix 5/2, Dam (c111/h124) jump winner: 13/1, won 10-runner fillies bumper at Vichy by ¼ length from Lenza Conti. Left D. Guillemin €55,000 in July and has joined a yard in great form, so looks the one to beat. Ridden out to win a 1m4f French bumper in May and later purchased for 55,000euros. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (13/2 -44%) Hello Life |
13/2(-44%) | (7) Hello Life 13/2, Sea The Moon filly. Dam 1m-1½m winner who stayed 1¾m. Makes plenty of appeal on paper. Out of a useful 1m-1m4f winner and represents a top yard that does well in bumpers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (13/2 -63%) Do Wah Diddy |
13/2(-63%) | (4) Do Wah Diddy 13/2, Out of a mare who placed in this sphere and followed suit when runner-up at Huntingdon 18 days ago. Likely to be involved again. No match for an easy winner at Huntingdon but showed ability, albeit in a small field. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (11/1 +21%) Hart Of Mystery |
11/1(+21%) | (6) Hart Of Mystery 11/1, Gentlewave filly. Half-sister to poor hurdler My Granny Lily, stays 19f. Dam, 1¼m-12.5f winner, half-sister to fairly useful chaser (stayed 2½m) Kikos. Newcomers from yard often fancied. £5,000 2yo; fifth foal; half-sister to 2m hurdle winner My Granny Lily. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
LATOPIX made a winning debut at Vichy in May and was purchased for 55,000 euros at the Arqana Summer sale in July. Despite carrying a 7lb penalty, which is partially negated by Joe Anderson's 3lb claim, he is taken to follow up, as that experience may prove vital. Do Wah Diddy finished second at Huntingdon on her first start and has to enter calculations, while others to note include Hello Life and Rose's Dart.
LATOPIX has already won a similar contest in France and has been picked up by an in-form yard ahead of this British debut, so she's preferred to Do Wah Diddy, who made a pleasing start at Huntingdon. Hello Life is the pick of the newcomers.
This doesn't look a strong bumper and HELLO LIFE could be capable of making a winning start for Dan Skelton.

1st (11) (17/2 +29%) Frero Banbou |
17/2(+29%) | (11) Frero Banbou 17/2, Losing run dates back to January 2022 but he's run several fine races in defeat since, including when placed in a couple of Premier Handicaps at Cheltenham last season. Shaped better than the bare result at Aintree on return and he's lurking on a dangerous mark. Stamina for 3m is unproven. Going into the unknown stamina-wise but on a handy mark and trainer in excellent form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (9/4 +63%) The Changing Man |
9/4(+63%) | (8) The Changing Man 9/4, Progressive over hurdles but mixed record over fences last season. Went off towards the top of the betting but failed to complete in Badger Beer at Wincanton on return, too far out to suggest outcome. Not taken lightly. Moving nicely when falling in the Badger Beer; can play leading role granted a clear round. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (14/1 -75%) Marble Sands |
14/1(-75%) | (1) Marble Sands 14/1, Useful hurdler who scored twice over fences last season at Ayr and Musselburgh. Fit from the Flat when making a winning return in 4-runner listed race at Carlisle 4 weeks ago and respected back in a handicap over a trip he should stay. Stamina not guaranteed but he stayed on well for 2m4f Listed win at Carlisle last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (12) (12/1 +52%) Some Scope |
12/1(+52%) | (12) Some Scope 12/1, Had a good first season over fences, winning on 2 of his 5 starts and ending campaign with creditable fourth of 14 in handicap chase at Cheltenham in April. Looked rusty there on return but still needs to leave that well behind up in class. Progressive last season; had wind surgery since last month's return; retains potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (18/1 +45%) Kinondo Kwetu |
18/1(+45%) | (2) Kinondo Kwetu 18/1, Snapped a run of poor form when scoring at Uttoxeter and Worcester this summer before good second of 5 in handicap chase at Perth (23.8f, soft, 3/1). However, found his run of good form coming to a shuddering halt at Cheltenham 5 weeks ago, a sloppy round of jumping part of the problem. Pulled up at Cheltenham last month but that may not be his course; in fine form previously. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (12/1 -50%) Neon Moon |
12/1(-50%) | (4) Neon Moon 12/1, Not proved the most reliable but he advanced his form on the back of wind surgery when scoring at Chepstow on return and backed that up when third at Ascot 4 weeks ago. In the mix with a repeat. He's been better then ever this autumn following wind surgery and holds solid claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (18/1 +45%) Special Rate |
18/1(+45%) | (9) Special Rate 18/1, Enjoyed a most productive campaign over hurdles/fences last term, winning 7 from 10 starts for Philip Kirby. Shaped okay until let down by a rare jumping lapse at Ayr on yard debut/return 4 weeks ago. Career best required up in class. Competitive mark on best form & new trainer is enjoying productive campaign; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (40/1 -150%) Anglers Crag |
40/1(-150%) | (6) Anglers Crag 40/1, Big improver for new stable after wind surgery, making it 4-4 when overcoming mistakes to edged ahead close home in Eider here (33f, soft) in February. Didn't get away with similar errors in Scottish National final start (also bled). Mark high enough now and opposable back down in trip on return. Made it 4-4 for yard with Eider win here; needs to be at very top of game on reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (5) (25/1 -150%) Jet Plane |
25/1(-150%) | (5) Jet Plane 25/1, Gained a fourth victory of 2023/24 in comfortable style at Market Rasen (19f) in April. Gave his all after 6 months off when third at Wetherby last month and more needed off the same mark in better race here. Four wins last term and returned with creditable 3rd at Wetherby; unproven on good ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (13) (5/1 +50%) Gustavian |
5/1(+50%) | (13) Gustavian 5/1, Sole success over fences to date came in 3-runner affair at Exeter back in February 2023 but made an encouraging return considering he was 4 lb out of the handicap and got badly hampered by a faller when third in Badger Beer at Wincanton 3 weeks ago. Potentially on a handy mark if building on that. Fair third in the Badger Beer from out of the handicap and could build on that effort. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (11/1 -57%) Donny Boy |
11/1(-57%) | (10) Donny Boy 11/1, Good second of 5 in handicap chase (9/2) at Ayr (20.5f, good to soft) on his return but again didn't look the most straightforward and it's probably no coincidence he's still without a win since his hurdling debut nearly 3 years back, spoiling his chance by jumping repeatedly right. 0-8 as a chaser but fine efforts the last twice and every chance he'll be thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (15/2 -50%) Bowtogreatness |
15/2(-50%) | (7) Bowtogreatness 15/2, Took advantage of career-low mark when finally off the mark over fences at Newbury 3 weeks ago, jumping boldly at the head of affairs. 4 lb rise not insurmountable but will find this more competitive no doubt. Came clear with progressive runner-up when making all at Newbury; 4lb rise isn't harsh. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (28/1 -40%) Blackjack Magic |
28/1(-40%) | (3) Blackjack Magic 28/1, Returned with success in the Badger Beer at Wincanton last season and mostly held form well after. Good record fresh so not dismissed after 7 months off. Has a very good record when fresh around this time of year and he's on the shortlist. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
NEON MOON was third off this mark in a competitive event over 3m at Ascot earlier in the month and a repeat of that level of form would give him a big chance here. Bowtogreatness has to be of interest following his success at Newbury and he could prove to be the main threat. Marble Sands has the ability to go well in a race of this nature, but has yet to prove that he stays this far, while Donny Boy and The Changing Man complete the shortlist.
GUSTAVIAN made an eye-catching return from out of the weights when third in the Badger Beer at Wincanton 3 weeks ago and tops the shortlist racing off his proper mark now. The well backed The Changing Man was yet to be asked for his effort when falling at the sixteenth in the same race so is worth another chance, with top-weight Marble Sands also worth considering on the back of a career-best win in a listed race at Carlisle.
Having had wind surgery since his disappointing reappearance at Cheltenham, SOME SCOPE (nap) is taken to bounce back with a win.

25/1(-108%) | (10) William Butler 25/1, Yeats gelding. Dam (h111), bumper/2m/21f hurdle winner, half-sister to fairly useful hurdler/useful chaser (stayed 25f) Pure Vision. Market should guide as one of 3 runners from the Elliott stable. 17,000euros as a foal; may want further and yard has stronger claims with Ma Jacks Hill. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (28/1 -75%) Trasna Na Pairce |
28/1(-75%) | (8) Trasna Na Pairce 28/1, Winning pointer who hinted at temperament when fifth of 7 in a C&D bumper on debut 18 days ago, carrying head awkwardly entering straight. Remains early days but that is something to monitor, however. Point winner who was well held in a bumper here 18 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||

4/5(+42%) | (5) Ma Jacks Hill 4/5, €310,000 4-y-o, Famous Name gelding. Half-brother to useful chaser Jemima P and fair hurdler Boghlone Honey, stayed 2½m. Dam made frame twice in points. 5th (11) (11/4 +17%) You Proof |
11/4(+17%) | (11) You Proof 11/4, Muhtathir gelding. Half-brother to fair French 2¼m hurdle winner Eta Carinae. Dam 17f hurdle winner in France. Of obvious interest on debut for leading outfit. Stayed on for 2nd in a point; yard's bumper horses always warrant respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (4/1 +50%) Faithful Follower |
4/1(+50%) | (1) Faithful Follower 4/1, Showed little in pair of bumper outings for Paul Hennessy during the spring but much improved starting out for new yard/after 6 months off when second of 7 in bumper at Down Royal (16.9f, good to soft) 28 days ago. May do better still. Left previous form behind when pulling a long way clear with smart rival at Down Royal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (25/1 -25%) Whosethebestboy |
25/1(-25%) | (9) Whosethebestboy 25/1, El Kabeir gelding. Dam 11.3f/1½m winner on Flat. Yard no stranger to success with their runners in this sphere and significant if market vibes proved particularly positive. El Kabeir gelding; dam 1m3f/1m4f winner (RPR 84); not really bred for this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (100/1 -100%) General Glea |
100/1(-100%) | (2) General Glea 100/1, Lauro gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to useful hurdler (19f-21f winner) Zipalong Lad. Yard boast a 10% strike rate with their runners in this sphere in last 5 seasons. Lauro gelding; half-brother to point winner My Little Cecil; may want further than this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (100/1 -100%) Hunsaker |
100/1(-100%) | (3) Hunsaker 100/1, Related to a host of winners on Flat but found himself less-than-ideally placed and never figured when fourth of 7 in bumper at Down Royal (16.9f, good to soft) on NH debut 28 days ago. This should reveal more. Long way behind Faithful Flower when 4th in recent Down Royal bumper. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (7) (200/1 -203%) Robin Believes |
200/1(-203%) | (7) Robin Believes 200/1, (Production):fourth foal: dam 1½m-14.5f winner. Passed over on racecourse bow. Make Believe gelding; dam French 1m4f-14.5f winner; tough ask for newcomer. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
This race is run in memory of Gordon Elliott's uncle, Willie, and the Cullentra trainer mounts a strong challenge in his bid to win it for a third successive year. MA JACKS HILL was bought for 310,000 euro soon after beating Sortudo in a Dromahane point-to-point last April and that form received a timely boost when the runner-up won a Tramore bumper in good style on Tuesday. Koktail Brut has a similar profile having also been purchased (for 250,000) at the Punchestown Festival Sale after easily winning a point-to-point. You Proof, runner-up on his only point start for Pat Doyle, also represents powerful connections, while Faithful Follower had Hunsaker well behind when runner-up to the long odds-on Classical Creek at Down Royal.
The market should prove useful with a number having their first start under Rules but MA JACKS HILL was an expensive recruit from points and shades the vote with the Elliott yard having landed each of the last 2 runnings of this race. Willie Mullins' newcomer You Proof and the selection's stablemate Koktail Brut are others to consider. Faithful Follower looks the pick of those with previous bumper form and also commands respect.
The finale can go the way of FAITHFUL FOLLOWER who went close when pulling clear with a nice prospect at Down Royal earlier this month

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
