33/1(-65%) | (2) Bay Brook 33/1, Twice-raced maiden. Fourth of 12 in juvenile hurdle at Fairyhouse (16f, good, 10/1) 18 days ago, running on. May improve from Fairyhouse but will need to if he is to get involved. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
NATURALLY NIMBLE is probably the pick of these on the Flat and gained a deserved win last time when taking a 1m2f maiden at Navan. The yard has a good line on juvenile hurdle form this season and it will be interesting to see how strong he is in the market. Slurricane had Lakota Blue over 13 lengths back in fifth when beating all bar the selection's stablemate Prairie Angel at Down Royal earlier this month, while there is very little to choose between You Done Well, Kaptain Bay and Out For A Stroll, who all finished close up in the Gowran maiden won by Solar Falcon.
SLURRICANE has made an encouraging start to life in this sphere and is well up to winning one of these. Its Bilbo looks an interesting recruit from France, while Naturally Nimble must be respected given his Flat form.
This might go to a hurdling newcomer, and the one with the best credentials and the best rating is Navan maiden winner NATURALLY NIMBLE

1st (2) (3/1 -20%) Butch Cassidy |
3/1(-20%) | (2) Butch Cassidy 3/1, €140,000 Walk In The Park gelding. Half-brother to Champion/Irish Champion Bumper winner Fayonagh and looked a fine prospect himself when making a winning bumper debut at Ballinrobe in April. Has since transferred to Henry de Bromhead and makes plenty of appeal now going hurdling. Half-brother to Champion Bumper winner Fayonagh; bumper winner is an exciting prospect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (2/1 +20%) Sermandzarak |
2/1(+20%) | (10) Sermandzarak 2/1, Successful on both starts in bumpers, including in 25-runner valuable sales event at this course in April. Highly respected on hurdle debut. Won the Goffs Defender Bumper when last seen; deserves to be near the head of the market. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (11) (3/1 +57%) Shuffle The Deck |
3/1(+57%) | (11) Shuffle The Deck 3/1, Walk In The Park gelding. Brother to fairly useful hurdler Verdant Place and modest 17f chase winner Birdsandthebees, stays 2½m. Dam bumper/fairly useful 2m hurdle winner. Won sole start in points (Mar 2024). Impressed when winning Borris House point in March; market support could be significant. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (6/1 -9%) Eastern Legend |
6/1(-9%) | (3) Eastern Legend 6/1, Useful winner at 14f on Flat and left his hurdling debut form well behind when fifth of 10 in Grade 1 Juvenile at Punchestown in May. Below form back on the Flat at the Curragh in July but sets a clear standard returned to this sphere. Outran odds when beaten 3.25l into fifth in Grade 1 Champion Four Year Old Hurdle in May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (13) (9/2 -157%) Zillow |
9/2(-157%) | (13) Zillow 9/2, Fairly useful on Flat in France (stays 1½m), won twice in 2023, including final outing (minor event). Left Christophe Ferland €300,000 following month. Very interesting hurdling debutant. 300,000euros purchase was a dual winner on the Flat in France; gelded; in top hands. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (50/1 +0%) Found A Diamond |
50/1(+0%) | (4) Found A Diamond 50/1, €14,000 3-y-o, Diamond Boy gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler College Oak and fair hurdler Double Click. Dam bumper winner and half-sister to triple Gold Cup winner Best Mate; likely to need this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (50/1 +0%) Jerrari |
50/1(+0%) | (6) Jerrari 50/1, Unseated rider fifth in maiden hurdle (33/1) at Limerick (16.3f, good to soft) on debut 35 days ago. Unseated rider when sprawling on landing at the fifth flight at Limerick; the jury is out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (33/1 -32%) O' Bon Pardon |
33/1(-32%) | (9) O' Bon Pardon 33/1, Went backwards from debut when seventh of 9 in bumper at Galway (16.4f, good to soft) 28 days ago. Makes hurdle bow. Promising effort on debut in the Goffs Defender Bumper and could improve sent hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (300/1 -100%) Hei |
300/1(-100%) | (5) Hei 300/1, Tailed off in bumper and brought down between 4 out and 3 out in maiden hurdle (150/1) at Navan (20.2f, good to soft) last week. Stumbled when tailed off at Galway on debut; in rear when brought down at Navan; no appeal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (50/1 +60%) Along The Way |
50/1(+60%) | (1) Along The Way 50/1, Blue Bresil gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to useful hurdler/smart chaser (stayed 25f) Sa Suffit and fair hurdler/fairly useful chaser (stayed 3m) Plus Jamais. Fifth sole start in points (Feb 2024). Well beaten in Oldcastle maiden point-to-point in February; best watched on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (12) (250/1 -213%) Silent Selector |
250/1(-213%) | (12) Silent Selector 250/1, Little impact in 2 maiden hurdles. Well beaten in maiden hurdles at Cork and Roscommon; readily passed over. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) (250/1 -67%) Notimelikedpresent |
250/1(-67%) | (8) Notimelikedpresent 250/1, 40/1, thirteenth of 16 in maiden hurdle at Roscommon (15.6f, soft) on NH debut 54 days ago. Up in trip and almost certainly one for later on. Pulled up in sole point-to-point and never a factor on debut at Roscommon; can't recommend. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (15) (250/1 -67%) Charlies Girl |
250/1(-67%) | (15) Charlies Girl 250/1, Order of St George filly. Dam, lightly raced over hurdles, half-sister to smart hurdler/top-class chaser (stayed 33f) First Lieutenant. 9,000euros yearling; dam unplaced 2m-2m2f maiden hurdles; best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (7) (150/1 -200%) Knockraha Eagle |
150/1(-200%) | (7) Knockraha Eagle 150/1, Third of 7 in bumper at Down Royal (16.9f, good to soft, 33/1) on NH debut 21 days ago. Makes hurdles debut. Ran well when beaten 17l into third in Down Royal bumper this month; more needed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
EASTERN LEGEND was a smart sort on the Flat, winning three times last year including a valuable 1m4f handicap at Leopardstown, and certainly has the best piece of hurdles form when just over three-lengths fifth to Kargese in the Grade 1 Champion Four Year Old Hurdle here at the Festival. Zillow won twice on the Flat in France at around 1m4f and was bought for 300,000 euros at Arqana last year, while Sermandzarak also represents powerful connections and won twice here in bumpers, including the valuable Goffs Defender Bumper at the Festival. Butch Cassidy won a Ballinrobe bumper for Philip Fenton in April, while point-to-point winner Shuffle The Deck is another to note.
ZILLOW, a fairly useful performer on the Flat, has transferred to the all-conquering Mullins stable for big money and gets the vote to make a successful hurdling debut. There are interesting rivals in opposition however, not least dual bumper winner Sermandzarak. Butch Cassidy also impressed in a Ballinrobe bumper in the spring and makes plenty of appeal now going hurdling for an in-form stable, with Eastern Legend another to note having run to a useful level in a Grade 1 juvenile in the spring.
BUTCH CASSIDY is a half-brother to Champion Bumper winner Fayonagh and looked a smart sort when winning his bumper at Ballinrobe

1st (3) (7/4 +30%) Roadlesstravelled |
7/4(+30%) | (3) Roadlesstravelled 7/4, Big-money buy on the back of his rout in an Irish point in May 2023 and belied his long absence as well as market weakness to score on his Market Rasen hurdling debut last month. Went with zest when following up at Wetherby 3 weeks ago and this good type physically can progress again. Point winner who is 2-2 over hurdles; promising type with plenty of untapped potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (5/1 -122%) Country Mile |
5/1(-122%) | (2) Country Mile 5/1, £80,000 point recruit who won a soft-ground Huntingdon bumper on Rules debut in April and he looked a useful prospect when a comfortable winner on hurdles debut a month ago. Should improve considerably for his leading yard. Won bumper/novice hurdle with plenty in hand; useful prospect; needs serious consideration. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (16/1 +20%) Bold Light |
16/1(+20%) | (1) Bold Light 16/1, Runner-up completed start in points back in 2021 and confirmed promise of his placed efforts during the spring when landing 10-runner maiden at Kelso in ready fashion a month ago. Bare form is ordinary so more needed in this company. Showed some improvement to win at Kelso last month, not extended; in much deeper here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (7/1 -8%) Rocheval |
7/1(-8%) | (4) Rocheval 7/1, Unbeaten in 3 outings last season, namely an Aintree bumper and juvenile hurdles at Ayr and at Carlisle. Type to kick on again this term but this no easy assignment on return. 3-3 in bumper/over hurdles; up in grade but may take another step forward after a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (7/2 -5%) Lily Du Berlais |
7/2(-5%) | (6) Lily Du Berlais 7/2, Dual-bumper winner and now chases a hat-trick over hurdles following maiden/handicap victories in the spring. Just about sets the standard but wouldn't be open to as much progress as a few of these. Usual hood left off. In top form in the spring, winning twice; sets the standard and may complete hat-trick. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (11/2 +31%) Saracen Beau |
11/2(+31%) | (5) Saracen Beau 11/2, Half-brother to unreliable but fairly useful hurdler/chaser Dreamsoftheatre. Shaped like a stayer in his bumper in March but showed much more speed when making successful hurdles debut at Ayr 3 weeks ago. Open to progress. Easy winner on hurdling debut; probably a useful novice and needs serious consideration. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
ROADLESSTRAVELLED defied a penalty at Wetherby to land the odds with the minimum of fuss. The five-year-old is likely to prove competitive at this level and a bold bid is anticipated. The unbeaten Rocheval has won a couple of junior hurdles in good style and looks a useful prospect. He's preferred to stablemate Bold Light on his reappearance, while both Saracen Beau and Country Mile are noted too.
A race full of potential with ROADLESSTRAVELLED just about the most persuasive option. An imposing sort physically, he's passed each of his 3 tests in fine style and there should be plenty more to come. Country Mile is sure to leave the bare form of his Ayr win behind and is a big threat, while Lily du Berlais needs respecting, too.
A number of these are open to improvement but that will be needed if Irish raider LILY DU BERLAIS returns from a break in top form.

1st (2) (4/5 +4%) Saladins Son |
4/5(+4%) | (2) Saladins Son 4/5, Irish point winner. Fair maiden hurdler for Chris Gordon last season, finishing runner-up twice. Could go one better if fully primed after 7 months off. 0-5 over hurdles for Chris Gordon last season but best form makes him the one to beat here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (15/8 +0%) Squiggles |
15/8(+0%) | (3) Squiggles 15/8, £45,000 buy after winning point in Ireland. Disappointing in a bumper for Sue Smith in May but offered more for excellent new yard when 8 lengths second in 21f Ludlow maiden hurdle 16 days ago. Leading claims with Callum Pritchard taking 7 lb off. Irish point winner; left poor bumper debut behind when second in mares' hurdle this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (5/1 -11%) Haveanothergoflo |
5/1(-11%) | (1) Haveanothergoflo 5/1, Successful sole start in Irish points and third in 2 maiden hurdles in early 2023. Pulled up (found to have an irregular heartbeat) on Uttoxeter chase debut last November but showed he retains ability when third of 11 in Carlisle handicap hurdle on return 12 days ago. Good third in 2m4f Carlisle handicap this month and open to improvement over new trip here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Saladins Son sets the standard and has kept decent company, even taking in the EBF Final at Sandown, where he finished a creditable seventh. He was an expensive failure on his final appearance for Chris Gordon, though, so has something to prove on his debut for the Anthony Honeyball team and may be worth taking on with SQUIGGLES. The point-to-point winner got closest to a potentially smart mare at Ludlow and the weight she receives could prove crucial. Haveanothergoflo isn't out of it.
James Owen could hardly have his team in better form and SQUIGGLES might have a fitness edge over the returning Saladins Son.
All three have possibilities but SALADINS SON is the one to beat if judged on the pick of his form for Chris Gordon last season.

1st (4) (6/1 +14%) Western Knight |
6/1(+14%) | (4) Western Knight 6/1, Second in the first of 2 bumper starts and overcome some sloppy jumping to make a winning start over hurdles in 2½m Uttoxeter novice 3 weeks ago. Looks sure to progress if his hurdling improves with experience. Caused a 22-1 surprise on recent hurdling debut but he battled well to beat a clear second. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (11/4 -10%) Excello |
11/4(-10%) | (6) Excello 11/4, Useful form over hurdles and fences at up to 2¾m in France. Second outing for Nicky Henderson when winning a 21f course graduation chase last December. Came unstuck in very strong Cheltenham handicaps subsequently but respected back over the smaller obstacles on reappearance after a breathing op. Very useful chaser at best; has had wind op and he's respected back over hurdles on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (8/11 +58%) Kloth Of Utopia |
8/11(+58%) | (1) Kloth Of Utopia 8/11, Useful form, scoring by 12 lengths at Auteuil (2¼m, soft) last month. Sets a good standard and this longer trip might see him pull out even more. French raider who was impressive at Auteuil latest and is open to more progress; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (100/1 +0%) Copper Jack |
100/1(+0%) | (5) Copper Jack 100/1, Irish point winner but only seventh in a Newton Abbot bumper for new connections last month. This longer trip more suitable now hurdling but this looks a tough ask. Irish point winner but he made a low-key start over hurdles at Newton Abbot last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (17/2 -6%) Touquet |
17/2(-6%) | (3) Touquet 17/2, Bumper winner last November who returned from wind surgery to make a successful hurdle debut at Plumpton (2m, good to soft) last month. That bare form is ordinary but he's from a top yard with a good recent record in this race. 7l win on hurdling debut at Plumpton (2m); this is a different test but he's in the mix. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Kloth Of Utopia is a half-brother to the classy Theleme and the French raider, who won at Auteuil last month, looks an exciting prospect. Ground conditions won't be as testing on this occasion, though, and he will need to prove himself, so the vote goes to TOUQUET. Paul Nicholls' gelding impressed when winning decisively on his hurdling debut recently and with a step up in trip likely to suit, it would come as no surprise were he to find further progress. Excello was pulled up in the Ultima when last seen but he's of definite interest back over hurdles.
KLOTH OF UTOPIA won easily at Auteuil last month and can make a successful foray across the Channel with the longer trip this afternoon expected to be in his favour. Nicky Henderson course chase winner Excello had some useful form over hurdles in France at the start of his career and is second choice ahead of Western Knight.
An interesting race in which SILVER THORN gets the vote ahead of very useful chaser Excello and French raider Kloth Of Utopia.

1st (3) (2/11 +55%) Ballyburn |
2/11(+55%) | (3) Ballyburn 2/11, Unbeaten sole outing in points/bumpers and developed into last season's leading novice hurdler, successful at Leopardstown/Cheltenham and completing trio of Grade 1 victories here in the spring. Highly exciting prospect now attentions switch to larger obstacles. Perfect 3-3 at Punchestown; won his sole point in emphatic fashion and looks unopposable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (12/1 +0%) Ocastle Des Mottes |
12/1(+0%) | (8) Ocastle Des Mottes 12/1, Useful hurdler. Nineteenth of 23 in handicap hurdle (8/1) at this course (20.5f, soft). Off 6 months and needs to get back on track now his attentions switch to larger obstacles. Poor when favourite for the Betfair Hurdle; looks the least enticing of the Mullins trio. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (50/1 -52%) Release The Beast |
50/1(-52%) | (10) Release The Beast 50/1, Fairly useful winner at 2m over hurdles. 12/1, fourth of 5 in novice hurdle at Navan (16f, heavy). Off 10 months. Makes chase debut. Tongue strap on 1st time. Justified favouritism in ordinary Galway maiden hurdle last October but has regressed. |

4th (4) (15/2 +0%) Dee Capo |
15/2(+0%) | (4) Dee Capo 15/2, Useful winner at 18f over hurdles. 33/1, good eleventh of 23 in handicap hurdle at this course (20.5f, soft). Off 6 months. Makes chase debut. Little impression off top weight in Listed hurdle (20.5f, soft) here in May; more needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (33/1 +34%) Ataboycharlie |
33/1(+34%) | (2) Ataboycharlie 33/1, Useful hurdler. Winner in hurdle at Leopardstown in December. Very good second of 14 in novice hurdle at this course (16.2f, heavy, 25/1). Off 6 months. Makes chase debut. Won novice handicap hurdle at Leopardstown and only touched off by Eagle Fang here in May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (50/1 -67%) An Epic Song |
50/1(-67%) | (1) An Epic Song 50/1, Useful hurdler who looked to be being brought along steadily in pair of maiden chase contests last season. Probably best watched on return, with handicap targets further down the line in mind. Touched off by Langer Dan in last year's Coral Cup but poor in first two chase starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) (100/1 +50%) Crecora Hills |
100/1(+50%) | (11) Crecora Hills 100/1, Fair winner at 19f over hurdles. 11/1, career best when winning 16-runner handicap hurdle at Naas (19.3f, soft), comfortably. Off 7 months. Makes chase debut. Even if she can replicate form of latest handicap hurdle victory, she has plenty to find. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (12) (18/1 -29%) Miss Pronunciation |
18/1(-29%) | (12) Miss Pronunciation 18/1, Useful hurdler. 3/1, career best when winning 7-runner novice hurdle at Fairyhouse (16f, heavy), impressively. Off 9 months. Looks a good prospect now chasing for all this is a tough enough introduction. Won all three starts over hurdles last season; could still be improving; might want rain. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (7) (200/1 +0%) Hillsdale |
200/1(+0%) | (7) Hillsdale 200/1, Fair hurdler. Winner in hurdle at Naas in March. Shaped as if needing the run after 5 months off when eighth of 12 in novice chase (125/1) at Galway (22.5f, soft) on debut over fences 27 days ago, dropping away from 2 out. One for handicaps in this sphere later on. Handicap hurdle winner beaten out of sight on chasing debut on return; readily passed over. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (11/1 +8%) Gold Dancer |
11/1(+8%) | (6) Gold Dancer 11/1, Fairly useful hurdler. 16¾ lengths fourth of 11 to Captain Cody in Easter Festival Novices' Hurdle at Fairyhouse (20f, heavy, 10/1) in March. Good prospect now chasing for leading yard but he'll need to step up plenty to trouble stablemate Ballyburn. Struggled up in class in two runs for this stable; looks the yard's second string here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (80/1 -21%) Doctor Glide |
80/1(-21%) | (5) Doctor Glide 80/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Cheekpieces on for 1st time, creditable second of 15 in novice hurdle (8/11) at Ballinrobe (17.6f, soft). Off 7 months. Makes chase debut. Distant fourth behind Firefox and Ballyburn on debut at Fairyhouse; much more needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (200/1 +33%) Quornofamonday |
200/1(+33%) | (9) Quornofamonday 200/1, Fair winner at 2m over hurdles. Hooded for 1st time, eleventh of 12 in novice chase at this course (16.6f, good, 100/1) on debut over fences 38 days ago. Probably one for later on. Off the mark over hurdles at Naas in March but never figured here on chasing debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
BALLYBURN was the star novice hurdler last season and makes his eagerly awaited chasing debut. The point-to-point winner, who gained both of his bumper victories at this venue, was very impressive in scoring three times at Grade 1 level last term, including the Gallagher Novices' Hurdle by a margin of 13 lengths at the Cheltenham Festival. Dee Capo was also a useful novice over hurdles, winning twice, while An Epic Song was narrowly beaten in the 2023 Coral Cup at Cheltenham but has failed to sparkle in two chase starts. Miss Pronunciation progressed well over hurdles and completed a hat-trick at Fairyhouse in February.
Last season's leading novice hurdler BALLYBURN has all the hallmarks of one who will prove just as good over fences and Willie Mullins' 6-y-o ought to prove extremely hard to beat on his return. Miss Pronunciation, Dee Capo, Gold Dancer and Only By Night can do battle for minor honours.
Chasing it is then for BALLYBURN and the Willie Mullins-trained star should brush his rivals aside before moving onto bigger things

1st (7) (14/1 -40%) Dr T J Eckleburg |
14/1(-40%) | (7) Dr T J Eckleburg 14/1, Two chase wins from lower marks last term and shaped as if he'd come on for the run following 6 months off when third of 5 in handicap chase at Newton Abbot (16.3f, soft) 24 days ago. Eased 1 lb ahead of this but couple of others appeal more for win purposes. Won two h'cap chases last term; fair run after a break when third last time; could go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (4/1 +27%) General Medrano |
4/1(+27%) | (3) General Medrano 4/1, Fairly useful hurdler who improved switched to chasing, landing first 2 starts and plenty of good efforts in defeat thereafter. Below-par effort at Kempton in April but eased 2 lb ahead of return and he won on seasonal bow last term. Had wind surgery. Won first 2 starts last season; some fair runs after that; chance unless going turns soft. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (11/2 -10%) Netywell |
11/2(-10%) | (4) Netywell 11/2, Consistent type who scored over C&D last December on way to completing a quick-fire hat-trick at Newcastle (16.3f) in February. Faded out of things when fourth at Carlisle (2m, heavy) on final start in April but he returns with his yard in good order. Won three on trot in middle of last season; went up 19lb; no easy task on seasonal debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (11/8 +39%) Home Free |
11/8(+39%) | (2) Home Free 11/8, Hurdles winner who opened his chase account returning from 5 months off (had wind op and tongue tied) at Uttoxeter in October and improved again when following up in emphatic fashion in handicap at Ayr (16.5f) 26 days ago. Up 10 lb but big shout in hat-trick bid. Won last two races, latest by 11l at Ayr; now 10lb higher; has won on heavy; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (16/1 -60%) Xcitations |
16/1(-60%) | (1) Xcitations 16/1, Seen to good effect when resuming winning ways at Sandown (15.5f) 12 months ago but largely struggled thereafter, including when fourth of 8 in handicap chase at Huntingdon (19.9f, heavy) in April. Has often needed a run to put him spot on but he's fallen to a handy mark. 5-8 over fences, latest at Sandown last November; on a good mark but usually needs a run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (4/1 +11%) Galunggung |
4/1(+11%) | (6) Galunggung 4/1, Progressive, dual winner over hurdles who made perfect start in this sphere when winning 4-runner handicap chase at Perth (2m) in May, kicking on from 2 out and kept up to work. Type to progress further and respected up in grade after 6 months off. Won two novice hurdles last term and off the mark on chase debut in May; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (22/1 -214%) Eden Du Houx |
22/1(-214%) | (5) Eden Du Houx 22/1, Doubled his tally in this sphere at Ffos Las 2 years ago. Very lightly raced since, not threatening on back of 9 months off/wind surgery when fourth of 7 in handicap chase at Ascot (18.8f) last December. The betting can prove a useful guide on the back of an 11-month absence. Won Ffos Las handicap in November 2023; lightly raced since; worth a market check. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Dan Skelton trained last year's winner and is represented by the progressive HOME FREE. He landed a double over fences when scoring with any amount in hand at Ayr last month and a 10lb rise may not be enough to anchor him. Galunggung looks another promising recruit to chasing, having won at Perth on his debut over the larger obstacles, while both Netywell and Eden Du Houx are respected.
HOME FREE has improved on the back of wind surgery/equipped with a tongue tie, following up his Uttoxeter success with the minimum of fuss at Ayr 26 days ago. The handicapper has reacted but he's unlikely to have finished improving yet on that evidence and can complete the hat-trick. General Medrano returns with his yard in good form and along with progressive 8-y-o Galunggung, heads the dangers.
Having won both his races since a wind operation, HOME FREE is the one to beat. The unexposed Galunggung is next best.

1st (1) (1/1 +50%) Grove Road |
1/1(+50%) | (1) Grove Road 1/1, Ended a losing run in a change of headgear in 10-runner handicap hurdle at Newton Abbot (26.5f) in July. Up 4 lb but has won off a break and remains handily weighted on old form for yard among the winners. Battled on well to score at Newton Abbot this summer; still well handicapped on old form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (25/1 -108%) Jolie Baie |
25/1(-108%) | (2) Jolie Baie 25/1, Resumed with 3m hurdles win at Ffos Las but pulled up in handicap chase at Uttoxeter (24f, good to soft) on her debut over fences 48 days ago. Not dismissed back in this sphere with tongue strap on for 1st time. Surprise hurdle winner in May but two poor runs have followed (hurdle/chase). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (3/1 -50%) Emma Hamilton |
3/1(-50%) | (4) Emma Hamilton 3/1, Visored for the 1st time when getting off the mark in 10-runner handicap hurdle at Ludlow (23.8f, good to firm) in May. Can't be ruled out on her return with the headgear again sported. Aided by visor when scoring by 4l at Ludlow in May; further progress is possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (10/1 +29%) Redbridge Rosie |
10/1(+29%) | (5) Redbridge Rosie 10/1, Modest maiden hurdler/chaser. Off 10 months before a below-form seventh of 12 in handicap hurdle at Fontwell (25.8f, good) 60 days ago. Needs to take a step forward. 0-12 under rules, and her seasonal debut in September was not encouraging. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (17/2 -70%) Mackie Dee |
17/2(-70%) | (6) Mackie Dee 17/2, It's now 13 runs since his last win in 2022 but he posted a very good second of 14 in handicap hurdle over C&D 20 days ago. Ought to be in the shake-up. Regressive veteran; 50-1 second over C&D win this month but remains hard to predict. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (6/1 -33%) R Bernard |
6/1(-33%) | (3) R Bernard 6/1, Scored at Stratford in May but off 6 months before a fading sixth of 9 in handicap hurdle at Ludlow (23.8f, good to soft) 30 days ago. Needs considering with that run under his belt. Won twice for new stable in spring and return with a decent effort last month; a player. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
GROVE ROAD went some way to atoning for a lacklustre Worcester performance when justifying favouritism at Newton Abbot, digging deep to end the runner-up's winning spree. James Owen's eight-year-old is 4lb higher and returning from a break, but his chief rival Emma Hamilton has had even longer off since her Ludlow triumph so he is taken to follow up. R Bernard failed in the hat-trick bid at Ludlow, but better is expected now he has that comeback under his belt.
GROVE ROAD bagged a first win for James Owen at Newton Abbot in July and can defy a 4 lb rise given he has a good record fresh and remains well weighted on past form. R Bernard also figures on a lenient mark and is next on the list ahead of Emma Hamilton and Jolie Baie.
He's not as good as he was but GROVE ROAD did well to win at Newton Abbot during the summer and might follow up here.

1st (4) (5/2 +17%) Scarlet O'tara |
5/2(+17%) | (4) Scarlet O'tara 5/2, Defied a penalty at the second time of asking in 5-runner novice hurdle at Perth (20.2f, soft) 58 days ago, readily. Into handicaps now and bred to be suited by this longer trip. Progressive; scored comfortably at Perth most recently; interesting on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (7/2 +78%) Royale Margaux |
7/2(+78%) | (1) Royale Margaux 7/2, Prolific in France but winless for this yard and effort typically proved short-lived at Uttoxeter in May. Shaped as if better for the run back over hurdles after 5 months off at Cheltenham recently. 0-11 in Britain but is attractively treated on best form and this new trip may suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (6/1 +8%) Fortuna Ligna |
6/1(+8%) | (5) Fortuna Ligna 6/1, Signed off last term with a win at Perth and should strip fitter for recent return at Fontwell. Cheekpieces back on and 10 lb claimer up. Mostly consistent but posted her worst effort when well-held fifth in this race last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (10/1 -11%) Midnightreflection |
10/1(-11%) | (2) Midnightreflection 10/1, C&D winner who should come on for her recent run and is by no means one to write off from a slipping mark. Second in this race in 2020 and went one better in 2023; out of sorts this year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (12/1 +25%) Belles Benefit |
12/1(+25%) | (10) Belles Benefit 12/1, Bounced back to form to score at Plumpton last month but was found out by a 4 lb rise in the weights at Lingfield 11 days ago and this looks tougher. Ordinary mare who is in form but faces a difficult task in this field. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (11/1 +8%) Eureka Creek |
11/1(+8%) | (3) Eureka Creek 11/1, Fairly useful chaser who returns to hurdling after underperforming on her reappearance at Ffos Las the previous month. Good chance provided best chase form is transferred back to hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (11/2 +0%) Queens Venture |
11/2(+0%) | (8) Queens Venture 11/2, Much improved since sent handicapping, winning in good style at Market Rasen (23.1f, good) before following up in similarly dominant fashion at Southwell (20.4f). Perhaps found busy spell catching up with her at Wetherby last time and well worth another chance. Perhaps in need of a break last time; rested a few weeks since and remains of interest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (12/1 +0%) Ma Belle Noire |
12/1(+0%) | (9) Ma Belle Noire 12/1, Tail flasher but won 3 times over hurdles in 2023. Failed to match her hurdles form sent chasing at Hereford in May but could go well returned to this sphere after 6 months off. Blinkers back on. Well beaten over fences on sole run this year; returns from another layoff; market helpful. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
BATWOMEN proved she was no joker in the pack when making a successful handicap debut at Fontwell last month. A subsequent 5lb rise shouldn't prevent the unexposed mare from mounting another stern challenge and she gets the vote over Perth scorer Scarlet O'Tara. Midnightreflection had been in better form prior to landing this under Charlie Case 12 months ago, but given that she is now 8lb below that mark it would be unwise to rule her out.
QUEENS VENTURE perhaps found a busy spell catching up with her at Wetherby last time and is well worth another chance given how progressive she'd looked prior to that. Midnightreflection should be sharper for her recent run and isn't one to write off from a slipping mark, with Batwomen and Scarlet O'Tara others to consider in an open race.
The vote goes to BATWOMEN, narrowly ahead of Scarlet O'Tara who is another progressive type.

1st (3) (8/15 +36%) Stellar Story |
8/15(+36%) | (3) Stellar Story 8/15, Smart hurdler who landed the Albert Bartlett Hurdle at Cheltenham in March. Only a fair fourth of 7 in novice hurdle at this course (23.9f, good to soft) 6 months ago. Ought to make at least as a good a chaser, and the choice of Jack Kennedy here. The best of these over hurdles; brother to yard's Grade 1-winning chaser The Storyteller. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (15/8 -36%) Search For Glory |
15/8(-36%) | (2) Search For Glory 15/8, Promising type who posted a career best when winning 12-runner novice chase at Galway (22.5f, soft) on his debut over fences 27 days ago. Sure to improve. Off the mark on chasing bow at Galway but Jack Kennedy prefers Stellar Story. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (12/1 -71%) Rainbow Trail |
12/1(-71%) | (1) Rainbow Trail 12/1, Fairly useful chaser. Fell 8th in Grade 3 chase (10/3) at this course (18.3f, good) 38 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Should still progress. Fell 6 from home when travelling well within himself in 18.5f Grade 3 here latest; chance. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
A disappointing turnout for this Grade 2, with all three runners representing the same connections and riding arrangements suggest STELLAR STORY is preferred. The point-to-point winner developed into a smart staying novice hurdler last season, notably landing the Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival. Search For Glory has a similar profile to the selection having also scored between the flags and in a bumper, and stayed well over hurdles last term, winning a 3m Clonmel Grade 3. He finished strongly to make a winning start over fences at Galway last month, while Rainbow Trail scored over 2m4f at Gowran but has since fallen here in a Grade 3.
Gordon Elliott saddles all three for Gigginstown and marginal preference is for last season's Albert Bartlett victor STELLAR STORY who is taken to make a winning start in this sphere. Search For Glory impressed when going in on his chasing bow at Galway and is feared more than Rainbow Trail.
STELLAR STORY will need to be on his game but he's the best of these over hurdles and is the choice of Jack Kennedy

1st (1) (6/1 +14%) Steel Ally |
6/1(+14%) | (1) Steel Ally 6/1, Progressive sort who resumed with a very good second of 10 in 2m handicap hurdle at Ffos Las 41 days ago. Up 3 lb but not taken lightly with this step up in trip a plus. Runner-up in Welsh Champion Hurdle last month and could make another bold bid. |

2nd (5) (7/1 -56%) Beat The Bat |
7/1(-56%) | (5) Beat The Bat 7/1, Useful bumper winner who quickly made up into a very useful hurdler last winter, scoring at Ascot (19f) before an excellent second in 2m Cheltenham novice. Off 11 months but remains with plenty of potential for handicaps. Interesting. Strong novice form towards end of last year; off since but has potential off opening mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (12) (14/1 -40%) Knight Of Allen |
14/1(-40%) | (12) Knight Of Allen 14/1, Lightly-raced 2m hurdles winner who resumed with a solid third of 10 in novice at Uttoxeter (15.8f, good to soft) 36 days ago. May still do better now handicapping. Possibilities. Very lightly raced 4yo who has shown promise and is an interesting handicap newcomer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (10/1 -54%) Kamsinas |
10/1(-54%) | (2) Kamsinas 10/1, Course scorer who resumed his progress when making a winning return in 9-runner handicap hurdle at Aintree (20f, good to soft) 27 days ago. Can make his presence felt here despite a 5 lb rise. Grade 2 novice win here in 2023; won at Aintree on return; could play another leading role. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (9/1 +0%) Punta Del Este |
9/1(+0%) | (4) Punta Del Este 9/1, C&D winner who shaped encouragingly after 7 months off when third of 9 in handicap hurdle at Carlisle (20f, good to soft) 20 days ago. Can go well again nudged up 1 lb. Two wins last term and very close third on return; this 5yo could still have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (40/1 +39%) Dans Le Vent |
40/1(+39%) | (7) Dans Le Vent 40/1, Course winner who made a promising return from 19 months off when a considerately-handled fourth of 7 in handicap hurdle at Chepstow (16f, good to soft) 43 days ago. Not ruled out if taking a step forward now. 11yo who needs to prove how much ability he retains, but he's well h'capped and 1-1 here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (14) (22/1 -83%) Park Annonciade |
22/1(-83%) | (14) Park Annonciade 22/1, Useful Irish hurdler who took this event 12 months ago. Sent chasing this term and still in touch when fell 5 out in 2m handicap chase at Ayr 21 days ago. Must enter calculations back in this sphere now. Failed to kick on after winning this 12 months ago but just 2lb higher and not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (15) (14/1 +30%) Lavida Adiva |
14/1(+30%) | (15) Lavida Adiva 14/1, Consistent sort who landed 2m Catterick novice last December. Not disgraced on his return when sixth to Kamsinas in handicap at Aintree (20f) 27 days ago. In the mix with few miles still on the clock. Good second in big field at Cheltenham in April and she may have needed her comeback run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (3/1 +60%) Josh The Boss |
3/1(+60%) | (6) Josh The Boss 3/1, Got right back on the up on his return with victory in 17-runner Silver Trophy handicap at Chepstow (19.4f, good to soft) last month. That form has worked out really well so he's a likely player despite a 7 lb hike. Authoritative win in Silver Trophy on reappearance and a 7lb rise may not stop him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (11/2 +61%) Bowenspark |
11/2(+61%) | (10) Bowenspark 11/2, Unreliable sort but he recorded a creditable third of 9 to Kamsinas in handicap hurdle at Aintree (20f, good to soft) 27 days ago. Not the easiest of rides and visor is now reached for. Good third at Aintree on reappearance & open to further improvement now he's back on track. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (11) (8/1 +68%) Fine Casting |
8/1(+68%) | (11) Fine Casting 8/1, A fairly useful C&D scorer who ran to a similar level when placed on 4 of 5 starts over fences last season. Off since running poorly at Uttoxeter in May but handily weighted and not ruled out for a yard among the winners. Below par when last seen but has dropped to a good mark and trainer is in fine form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (33/1 0%) N'golo |
33/1(0%) | (8) N'golo 33/1, Winner of the 2022 Swinton here and he posted his best run since on the back of a wind op when a fair third of 6 in handicap hurdle at Wetherby (16f, good) 7 days ago. Needs to build on it. Won the 2022 Swinton Hurdle here; lightly raced since and hasn't really shone. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (50/1 -52%) Ballygeary |
50/1(-52%) | (9) Ballygeary 50/1, Resumed winning ways at Market Rasen in June and might have needed the run after 4 months off at Aintree, though he'll need to show more resolution than he often has to defy his mark in a race as competitive as this. Made it 5-12 over hurdles when winning in June but no threat the next twice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (13) (100/1 -100%) Lively Citizen |
100/1(-100%) | (13) Lively Citizen 100/1, A fairly useful chase/hurdles scorer who signed off for last term with a solid sixth of 11 in 2m handicap hurdle at Perth. No forlorn hope on his reappearance. Ran well off this mark at Aintree in April but returns in warm race; all wins over shorter. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
BEAT THE BAT found only the useful Dysart Enos too good in novice company at Cheltenham at the end of last year. Harry Fry's inmate may well prove good enough off his current mark now handicapping and is marginally preferred to Kamsinas. The latter landed a Grade 2 novice hurdle at this fixture last year and won at Aintree on his reappearance, while Chepstow winner Josh The Boss and Steel Ally are both capable.
This is wide open but Harry Fry's lightly-raced BEAT THE BAT appeals as an improver now going into handicap company for the first time so edges the vote. Dan Skelton's Punta del Este made an encouraging return at Carlisle and could emerge as the main threat, although plenty of others make appeal, notably Josh The Boss, Fine Casting, Steel Ally, Kamsinas and last year's victor Park Annonciade.
The form of Chepstow's Silver Trophy is working out well and dominant winner JOSH THE BOSS is taken to defy a 7lb rise.

Classy hurdles recruit and will take some stopping. 3-3 in bumpers last season, the latest win in Aintree festival Grade 2 in April. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (4/1 -14%) Jackstell |
4/1(-14%) | (4) Jackstell 4/1, €40,000 3-y-o, £70,000 4-y-o, No Risk At All gelding. Half-brother to 4 winners, including fair 2½m hurdle winner Epswell. Dam French bumper winner. Third both starts in maiden points and landed strong support in gritty fashion on Rules debut at Tipperary in May. Moved from one good yard to another. Narrow winner of Tipperary bumper in May; ought to feature on this stable/hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (28/1 +58%) One Million Dreams |
28/1(+58%) | (8) One Million Dreams 28/1, Half-brother to useful 2½m hurdle winner Spirit of Legend. Modest form only outing on Flat, similar form over hurdles, better effort when 19½ lengths third of 14 to Hors Jeu in 4-y-o event at Moulins in May. More needed on UK debut. Displayed promise on Flat/over hurdles in France but best watched on British debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (125/1 -150%) Ramaah |
125/1(-150%) | (9) Ramaah 125/1, Fair handicapper on Flat (stays 1¾m), successful penultimate outing, good third last time. Sold from Ismail Mohammed 20,000 gns later in September and different headgear employed on hurdles debut. Won low-grade AW handicap this summer but faces tough task on this hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (28/1 +15%) Law Supreme |
28/1(+15%) | (7) Law Supreme 28/1, Fair handicapper on Flat (stays 8.5f), step back in right direction when third last time. Hurdles debut and one of 2 runners for the yard. Placed over 7f on the Flat this month; realistic place claims if he takes to hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (80/1 +20%) Glenvango |
80/1(+20%) | (2) Glenvango 80/1, €12,000 3-y-o, Ocovango gelding. Half-brother to bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler Glencassley and bumper winner Nana Joan. Sent off long odds but displayed ability when mid-field on debut in January. Made fairly encouraging hurdle debut in January but not seen again since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (80/1 +20%) Aughnagomaun |
80/1(+20%) | (10) Aughnagomaun 80/1, Dam half-sister to fairly useful hurdler (17f-2½m winner) Moscato. Little form in varied events on Flat. Well beaten off lowly mark on last month's Flat handicap debut; makes no appeal here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
All eyes will be on HORACES PEARL, who was one of the best British bumper horses last season. The Fergal O'Brien-trained six-year-old picked up where he left off the previous campaign with a Wincanton win before coming out on top in the Grade 2 at the Grand National meeting. Big things are expected of him now he goes over obstacles. Jackstell has joined Jamie Snowden since landing a Tipperary NH Flat race back in the spring, while formerly classy Flat performer L'astronome should step forward from his Newbury third.
HORACES PEARL was very useful in bumpers and sure to be well prepared for this hurdles debut, he's expected to outclass these. Jackstell also won in that sphere in Ireland and has transferred to an in-form yard, so he's an obvious threat, while L'Astronome ought to be capable of better given his Flat ability.
Aintree festival bumper winner HORACES PEARL, who could quite plausibly take high rank among this season's novice hurdlers.

1st (1) (1/2 0%) Pic D'orhy |
1/2(0%) | (1) Pic D'orhy 1/2, Only defeat in 2022/23 campaign came at the hands of Shishkin in Ascot Chase and added another Grade 1 to his CV when landing that corresponding race in February. Disappointed in Melling Chase at Aintree final start but expected to bounce back (won this on return last season). Top-class chaser with a very good record here and when fresh; this is his to lose. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (25/1 +50%) Hidden Depths |
25/1(+50%) | (5) Hidden Depths 25/1, Dual-purpose performer who was denied the hat-trick here 3 weeks ago after wins at Perth and Market Rasen. That was off a mark of 129 so looks firmly up against it at this level. Essentially a handicapper and relying on all his rivals being below par. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (5/2 +44%) Dashel Drasher |
5/2(+44%) | (3) Dashel Drasher 5/2, Tough and likeable sort who's known more as a smart-staying hurdler. However, his form over fences is at least as good and he's capable of mixing it with Pic d'Orphy in receipt of 6 lb if ready to go (needed reappearance last season). Switching to fences shouldn't be a problem but dropping back to 2m5f could be. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (14/1 +58%) Flegmatik |
14/1(+58%) | (4) Flegmatik 14/1, Ended a near 2-year losing run when scoring at Kempton (24f) in January. Excuses both starts this season but has plenty to find in this grade. Hard to envisage him posing a threat here after his recent struggles in handicaps. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
It's been a while since Dashel Drasher's last spin over fences, but he's seldom been out of the first three in this discipline and is respected in receipt of 6lb from PIC D'ORHY, although Paul Nicholls' nine-year-old remains the one to beat. A bloodless winner of this contest 12 months ago, he later added the Ascot Chase to his CV before being pulled up in the Melling at Aintree. Wind surgery might have done him the world of good and he receives a confident vote. Le Patron looks best placed to chase the pair home.
An ideal starting point for the high-class PIC D'ORHY, who made a winning comeback in this last season before going on to win the Grade 1 Ascot Chase over the same distance. Dashel Drasher is capable of making a race of it in receipt of 6 lb if ready to go.
There's no great temptation to see past last year's winner PIC D'ORHY, who goes particularly well here and he's mustard when fresh.

2nd (10) (16/1 -129%) Mr Saxobeat |
16/1(-129%) | (10) Mr Saxobeat 16/1, Tongue strap on for 1st time, good 6 lengths second of 8 to Watch The Weather in handicap chase at Wexford (19.7f, heavy, 9/1) 27 days ago. Respected. Well held runner-up to Watch The Weather at Wexford and a supporting role looks likely. |

7/1(+7%) | (11) Verdant Place 7/1, 6/1, eighth of 10 in handicap chase at Navan (23.4f, heavy). Off 8 months. Not an obvious sort unless the market speaks in his favour. Disappointing over fences; off since March and probably best watched on this occasion. |

6th (3) (16/1 -33%) Walnut Beach |
16/1(-33%) | (3) Walnut Beach 16/1, 2 wins from 5 runs this season. Latest win in chase at Killarney in August. 4/1, creditable 7¼ lengths third of 8 to Watch The Weather in handicap chase at Wexford (19.7f, heavy) 27 days ago. Solid claims. Held by Law Ella and Watch The Weather on his last two starts but is consistent. |

13/2(-18%) | (6) Ballycoose 13/2, Latest win in chase at Ayr in January. 11/1 and tongue strap on for 1st time, creditable second of 13 in handicap chase at Ayr (24.1f, good to soft). Off 7 months. Can get involved if ready to go. Off since April; no surprise should he improve for the run but not one to underestimate. |

|PU| (8) (16/1 +20%) Hardwired |
16/1(+20%) | (8) Hardwired 16/1, Course winner. Latest win in chase at Navan in March. Pulled up in handicap chase (33/1) at this course (20.2f, soft), never going well. Off 6 months. May need it. 9lb higher than his last winning mark and might well improve for the run; others preferred. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Runner-up at Ayr when last seen in April, the Stuart Crawford-trained BALLYCOOSE can make a winning reappearance. Lightly raced over fences having had just the four starts, the seven-year-old is open to further improvement this term. Danny Mullins is a positive booking on a gelding who tends to run well off the back of a break. Wexford scorer Watch The Weather will find this easier having struggled in a Grade 3 at Cork and the consistent eight-year-old is likely to be very competitive for trainer Ray Cody. Magic Tricks needs to step up considerably on recent runs over fences, but there is no denying the Gordon Elliott-trained eight-year-old is well handicapped.
LAW ELLA shaped as if ahead of her mark when second at Listowel last time and is taken to the prove the point at the possible expense of in-form pair Walnut Beach and Mr Saxobeat.
Preference is for MAGIC TRICKS(), well handicapped over fences, has ground coming in his favour and could well appreciate the trip

7/2(+0%) | (4) Trelawne 7/2, Winner of 3 of his 4 starts over hurdles and made a successful debut over fences at Carlisle (2½m) last November. Continued in good form thereafter but got no further than the second having been sent off favourite in the Ultima at Cheltenham (25f, heavy) in March. Can get back on track on return. Runner-up in Grade 2 novice chase in January and the forecast rain is in his favour. |

2nd (2) (11/8 +21%) Iroko |
11/8(+21%) | (2) Iroko 11/8, Thrived over hurdles in 2022/23 and was an easy winner of a Warwick novice on his seasonal/chase debut last year. Took his form up another notch on third start over fences when 4 lengths second of 6 to Inothewayurthinkin in Grade 1 Mildmay at Aintree in April and has more to offer this term. Second in Grade 1 novice at Aintree in April when last seen; leading form claims on return. |

3rd (5) (13/2 +46%) Deafening Silence |
13/2(+46%) | (5) Deafening Silence 13/2, Successful on last of 3 starts in points and built on his hurdling debut promise after over a year off when landing novice at Exeter last November. Progressed again when taking Grade 2 at Sandown 4 weeks later and warrants respect on return/chase debut. Yard won this last year with Grey Dawning. In at deep end on chase debut but this Grade 2 novice hurdle winner has lots of potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (6/1 -9%) Hillcrest |
6/1(-9%) | (6) Hillcrest 6/1, Big chasing type who is unbeaten when completing over hurdles, galloping on strongly on first crack at 3m in Grade 2 Prestige Novices' Hurdle at Haydock back in February 2022. Ran no sort of race in the Albert Bartlett the following month and hasn't been seen since. Interesting chasing debutant. Very promising novice hurdler in 2021-22 but has a mammoth absence to defy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (9/2 +10%) Tahmuras |
9/2(+10%) | (3) Tahmuras 9/2, Created a good impression when winning his first 3 starts over hurdles, including the Grade 1 Tolworth at Sandown. Cast aside a tame chase debut when scoring in first-time cheekpieces at Aintree on Boxing Day and similar form when runner-up on both subsequent starts. Yard won 3 of last 4 renewals. Second in Grade 2 novice at Kempton when last seen; going back left-handed could be a plus. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (150/1 -50%) Lieutenant Command |
150/1(-50%) | (1) Lieutenant Command 150/1, Doubled his tally over fences at Leopardstown (21.4f, good) back in March 2023 but struggled off his revised mark on both subsequent starts, last seen tailed off in the Galway Plate 15 months ago. Off since and has left Noel Meade. Two-time chase winner in Ireland but this 10yo makes his stable debut after a long absence. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
This looks a good opportunity for the classy IROKO to make a winning start to his season. He wasn't disgraced when finishing fifth in the Turners at the Cheltenham Festival on his return from an absence, before posting an excellent runner-up effort in an Aintree Grade 1 over 3m1f. The talented but quirky Trelawne was last seen falling in the Ultima at Cheltenham but commands respect provided he puts his best foot forward. Tahmuras is respected most of the remainder.
IROKO was runner-up in the Grade 1 Mildmay at Aintree on his final outing last term and is open to further progress. He is fancied to make a winning return to action at the expense of Trelawne, who boasts a notably good record when fresh and was sent off favourite for the Ultima when last seen but fell at the second. Deafening Silence warrants plenty of respect on return/chase debut so rounds off the shortlist.
Paul Nicholls has won seven of the last ten runnings and his representative TAHMURAS earns the vote ahead of Iroko.

1st (2) (13/8 +0%) Lilting Verse |
13/8(+0%) | (2) Lilting Verse 13/8, Listed bumper winner who opened her account over hurdles in mares' maiden at Ludlow (21.2f) a year ago. Exploits mixed in trio of starts thereafter that season but made a decent start to chase career when third at Ffos Las on return, not settle fully before making rapid headway. Will do better. Good start to chasing career when third at Ffos Las last month; likely contender here. |

2nd (4) (3/1 +0%) Moonlit Potter |
3/1(+0%) | (4) Moonlit Potter 3/1, Encouragement when making the frame in bumper and built on hurdling debut when winning mares maiden at Lingfield (19.5f, soft) in February, staying on strongly after meeting trouble. Decent second under a penalty at Huntingdon final start and step up in trip will suit on chase/handicap bow. Unexposed 6yo who won 2m3f maiden hurdle in February; makes chase/handicap debut here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (11/4 +45%) Melusine De Pail |
11/4(+45%) | (6) Melusine De Pail 11/4, Point winner who showed fair form when placed 4 times over hurdles last season. Respectable third at Ludlow on comeback last month, shaping as if wanting further. Not taken lightly sent chasing. 0-6 over hurdles but ran well last month, after a break, and has won an Irish point winner. |

4th (3) (28/1 -100%) Tune The Chello |
28/1(-100%) | (3) Tune The Chello 28/1, Multiple winner for Henry de Bromhead but failed to fire in 2 outings for Donald McCain and has been off 21 months subsequently. Absent since beaten in a match in February 2023; market may guide on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (5/1 -67%) Baby Shally |
5/1(-67%) | (1) Baby Shally 5/1, Point winner who made a successful start over hurdles in a Wincanton novice. Showed improved form upped in trip/grade when third in a listed event at Doncaster (24.4f, heavy) but struggled in Grade 2 handicap at Newbury final start. Makes chase bow in much calmer waters. Irish point winner; placed in Listed novice hurdle last season; good chasing prospect. |

|PU| (7) (50/1 +50%) Raindance Queen |
50/1(+50%) | (7) Raindance Queen 50/1, Placed both starts between the flags early in 2022 but has shown little over hurdles and well-beaten sent chasing last 2 starts. Hard to make a case for (16 lb out of the handicap). Yet to be placed under rules and can't be recommended from 16lb out of the weights. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A promising third on chase debut at Ffos Las last month when only weakening after the last, LILTING VERSE is likely to improve plenty for that effort and stepping up in trip could see her get back to winning ways. A progressive sort over hurdles last season, but not seen since finishing runner-up here in March over shorter, Moonlit Potter is a key player on her chasing bow, as well as Melusine De Pail, who ran with credit on her return at Ludlow last month.
LILTING VERSE is likely to prove a better chaser than hurdler judged on her promising return at Ffos Las and she can put that experience to good use up against chasing newcomers Moonlit Potter, Melusine de Pail and Baby Shally.
This looks good for LILTING VERSE (nap), who made a solid start to her chase career this autumn and may have a fitness edge over some.

1st (1) (13/2 -44%) Beauport |
13/2(-44%) | (1) Beauport 13/2, Bit of a mixed record over fences but he's smart on his day and put it altogether when overcoming some sticky jumping to land the Midlands National at Uttoxeter (4¼m, heavy). Never a factor in the Scottish National a month later but this is easier and yard adept at readying one. Last year's Midlands National winner; may need to go right-handed these days. |

2nd (7) (25/1 +0%) The Big Breakaway |
25/1(+0%) | (7) The Big Breakaway 25/1, Now 18 lb lower compared to when finishing second in the Welsh National at Chepstow in December 2022 but hasn't come close to matching that form in 8 subsequent appearances, in trouble early on recent stable debut. Never moved with any purpose before calling it a day in the Badger Beer at Wincanton. |

3rd (4) (18/1 +10%) What Path |
18/1(+10%) | (4) What Path 18/1, Useful hurdler. Ridden too aggressively on chase bow/final start for Willie Mullins. Decent effort sole start for Sophie Leech when third in maiden chase at Galway in August and ran over an inadequate trip on stable debut over 18.8f here 3 weeks ago. Hiked up in trip and lots to prove. Capable of a big run off this mark but he's having his first run beyond 3m. |

4th (5) (8/1 +11%) Fortescue |
8/1(+11%) | (5) Fortescue 8/1, Hasn't always looked an easy ride and fairly lightly raced in recent times but went with more zest than has been the case when runner-up on last month's reappearance. Eased 2 lb and possible he will strip fitter for that. Stuck on a losing run but he's a force to be reckoned with in these staying chases. |

5th (3) (8/1 +6%) Slipway |
8/1(+6%) | (3) Slipway 8/1, Strong stayer who dispelled a couple of low-key efforts when resuming winning ways at Kempton (3m) in March. Well held in Bet365 Gold Cup on final start in April and just a creditable cross-country debut when fifth on last week's reappearance. Given chance by the handicapper. |PU| (2) (6/1 0%) Kitty's Light |
6/1(0%) | (2) Kitty's Light 6/1, Scottish National hero in 2022/23 and an excellent fifth in Grand National last term. Went without his usual headgear when a well-held sixth at Chepstow (3m) on his return and needed to see more over 3m here 3 weeks ago. Step back up in trip will help his cause, at least. Getting himself well handicapped again and returning to further will be welcomed. |

|PU| (8) (9/1 -29%) Dom Of Mary |
9/1(-29%) | (8) Dom Of Mary 9/1, Shaped well a couple of times before putting up a career-best effort to score in the Sussex National at Plumpton in January (28.5f), going clear impressively. Matched that form from revised mark at Sandown before finding the Kim Muir too much. May need this on return minus headgear. Better than ever last season until Cheltenham in March; had wind op; cheekpieces missing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (9/1 +50%) Olivers Travels |
9/1(+50%) | (9) Olivers Travels 9/1, Bumper/hurdles winner who has improved significantly with cheekpieces fitted over fences, landing back-to-back Worcester handicaps (23f) this summer. Held back by mistakes since. On a tough mark and will be into unknown territory a long way from home over this far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (10/3 +44%) Inis Oirr |
10/3(+44%) | (6) Inis Oirr 10/3, Much improved for a first-time visor and an increased stamina test when bolting up in the Edinburgh National at Musselburgh (4m, good to soft) in February. Ridden with more restraint and fell in the Scottish National but sound-enough efforts this season and step back up in trip will help. 3m7f winner last season, so his recent thirds at about 3m were perfectly respectable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (11/2 +35%) Duke Of Deception |
11/2(+35%) | (10) Duke Of Deception 11/2, Likeable type who confirmed previous promise when merely pushed out to win 6-runner handicap chase at Haydock (25.6f, soft) in March. Probably should have followed up at Perth on final outing last term and should be spot on following a spin over hurdles last month. Did well last season in staying chases and his reappearance defeat was over hurdles. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Art Decco commands respect on the back of registering a hat-trick over fences and may have more to give even though he has risen 19lb in the process. However, these are deeper waters and with that in mind, last season's Midlands National winner, BEAUPORT, could be the way to go. Effective when fresh, this should be an ideal test of stamina for the consistent nine-year-old, whose chance would be enhanced if further rain hit the track. Fortescue and Inis Oirr are a couple of other doughty stayers to consider.
Stamina is SLIPWAY's forte and with this test more suitable than the cross-country race he contested last week, he's tentatively offered to exploit a handy mark. Beauport's record fresh is pretty encouraging so he's on the shortlist, with Fortescue likely to be on the premises again.
Although BEAUPORT has become hard to predict, his record over fences on right-handed tracks is actually very good.

4/9(+44%) | (5) State Man 4/9, Couldn't live with Constitution Hill in the 2023 Champion Hurdle but that's his only defeat in 13 completed starts since joining Willie Mullins, including the last 2 runnings of this. 5th (1) (14/1 +44%) Daddy Long Legs |
14/1(+44%) | (1) Daddy Long Legs 14/1, Smart hurdler. C&D winner. 2 wins from 5 runs this season. Bit below form 9¼ lengths third of 6 to Brighterdaysahead in Jezki Hurdle at Down Royal (16.9f, good to soft, 7/4) 22 days ago. Below his best after a sloppy round of jumping behind Brighterdaysahead at Down Royal. |

6th (3) (18/1 +55%) Sir Gerhard |
18/1(+55%) | (3) Sir Gerhard 18/1, Smart hurdler/chaser but no match for State Man in Punchestown when last seen in May. Well beaten behind State Man at the festival here when last seen; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (150/1 -50%) Smooth Tom |
150/1(-50%) | (4) Smooth Tom 150/1, Fairly useful hurdler. Cheekpieces on for 1st time in this code, unseated rider in Jezki Hurdle at Down Royal (16.9f, good to soft, 33/1) 22 days ago won by Brighterdaysahead. Easy to look elsewhere. In good form on the Flat before unseating early at Down Royal latest; up against it here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Champion Hurdler STATE MAN is hard to oppose in his bid for a third consecutive win in this race. Arguably better than ever last season, the Willie Mullins-trained gelding was unbeaten in all five starts. A horse who tends to run well fresh, he shouldn't be found wanting for fitness, despite having bigger long-term targets. Stablemate Lossiemouth is likely to provide the greatest threat. A winner of eight of her nine starts, the mare has long been considered a genuine Champion Hurdle prospect. She gets an early opportunity to test the title holder here. Gordon Elliott's recent Down Royal winner Brighterdaysahead looks the one most likely to trouble the Mullins pair.
STATE MAN has to be considered the one to beat as he goes in search of a third successive Morgiana but his stablemate Lossiemouth looks potentially top class herself and should ensure the Champion Hurdle winner doesn't have things all his own way. Progressive Jezki Hurdle winner Brighterdaysahead looks clear best of the remainder.
The standard set by reigning Champion Hurdle winner STATE MAN is a daunting one and he remains the one to beat

1st (2) (22/1 -193%) Shoot First |
22/1(-193%) | (2) Shoot First 22/1, Useful performance to win a 3m Cheltenham handicap in October 2022. Not seen again until fifth of 10 at Galway 4 weeks ago, shaping as if retaining all his ability. It'll be interesting to see if there's money for him with that outing under his belt. Big-field win at Cheltenham in October 2022; fair fifth at Galway last month after absence. |

2nd (15) (11/4 +66%) One Big Bang |
11/4(+66%) | (15) One Big Bang 11/4, Maiden in Ireland but 2-2 around 3m for James Owen in the spring, including a C&D handicap. Improved again when second under a double penalty in 21.5f Newton Abbot novice on his return 24 days ago. The step back up in trip will suit and looks on a good mark for his very much in-form yard. Has done very well since joining this yard and he's open to further improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (13) (22/1 +12%) Phantomofthepoints |
22/1(+12%) | (13) Phantomofthepoints 22/1, Posted a fairly useful effort when a wide-margin winner of a Chepstow novice (2m, soft) in April. Not disgraced when sixth of 13 on handicap debut at Ayr (2m) later that month and now steps up markedly in trip for his reappearance in a race the yard is no stranger to success in. Trainer has good record in race, but improvement needed and big stamina question to answer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (12) (33/1 +34%) Castle Rushen |
33/1(+34%) | (12) Castle Rushen 33/1, Finally came good in a handicap when shading a tight finish on his 2½m Carlisle reappearance 3 weeks ago. Only raised 3 lb but it'll probably be enough to stop him in this stronger race. Narrow reappearance win at Carlisle; this is much tougher but he's not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (11) (14/1 -27%) Backmersackme |
14/1(-27%) | (11) Backmersackme 14/1, Point/bumper winner who has shown promise over hurdles and on the Flat since. Unexposed type for a trainer with a strong record in good handicaps, including a win in this race last year. Improvement needed but lightly raced and represents last year's winning connections. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (4) (11/1 +21%) Gwennie May Boy |
11/1(+21%) | (4) Gwennie May Boy 11/1, Made it 3-3 for Dan Skelton with a useful performance to land a competitive staying handicap at the Aintree Grand National meeting in April. A further 11 lb rise demands further progress but no shock were he to find it. Made it 3-3 for yard with easy win at Aintree's National meeting; respected on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (16) (7/1 +42%) Patriotik |
7/1(+42%) | (16) Patriotik 7/1, Point winner who opened Rules account in a 2½m Ffos Las novice in March. Made a sound start to his handicap career after a break when fifth of 17 in the Silver Trophy at Chepstow (19.5f) 6 weeks ago. Unexposed now stepping up to 3m for a stable which knows what it takes to win this. Stayed on for fifth in the 2m3f Silver Trophy and the step up to 3m could bear fruit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (14) (9/2 +31%) Catch Him Derry |
9/2(+31%) | (14) Catch Him Derry 9/2, Improving type who made it 3-4 in handicaps when scoring hard held on his 21.5f Newton Abbot reappearance at the end of October. Raised another 7 lb but there's almost certainly more to come. Part of a strong hand for his stable. Harry Skelton rides a stablemate but he's 3-4 in handicaps and clearly thriving. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (14/1 +30%) Zain Nights |
14/1(+30%) | (7) Zain Nights 14/1, Useful stayer on the Flat for Harry & Roger Charlton and fast heading that way over hurdles, completing a handicap hat-trick in a big-field race over C&D in May. Returned with a good third of 12 at Cheltenham 4 weeks ago. Another who can't be discounted. Completed hat-trick in the spring and could improve for fair comeback third at Cheltenham. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (17/2 +29%) Kerryhill |
17/2(+29%) | (3) Kerryhill 17/2, Irish point winner who was very progressive in novice hurdles last winter, making it 2-3 with smooth Doncaster Grade 2 success (3m, good) in January. Surely more to come this season and much respected on handicap debut. Off since Grade 2 novice win at Doncaster in January but yard's horses often go well fresh. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (17/2 +39%) Push The Button |
17/2(+39%) | (5) Push The Button 17/2, Progressive in bumpers and 2-3 in novice hurdles at up to 21f last autumn. Off 11 months, creditable fifth of 13 in handicap at Cheltenham (2½m) 4 weeks ago and shapes as if this step up to 3m will suit him. Returned from absence with fair 5th at Cheltenham; unexposed and could have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (22/1 +56%) Twig |
22/1(+56%) | (1) Twig 22/1, Did really well back chasing last season, including second in Ultima at the Cheltenham Festival. Reverted to hurdles for Wetherby reappearance and finished a fine second in a 3m Wetherby Grade 2. Runs off the same mark as the Ultima. Wears first-time cheekpieces. Second in Ultima Handicap Chase off this mark in March; creditable run over hurdles latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (28/1 +44%) Ottizzini |
28/1(+44%) | (9) Ottizzini 28/1, Won maiden/novice events at up to 3m last season and back on the up when landing a 3m Ayr handicap 3 weeks ago. A 7 lb rise looks fair enough but this is a much tougher race. Easily made all at Ayr three weeks ago but this is a much tougher test of her credentials. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (33/1 -18%) Jody Ted |
33/1(-18%) | (6) Jody Ted 33/1, Better than ever with chase and handicap hurdle wins last autumn but off since unseating just before halfway in a valuable handicap chase at last year's Leopardstown Christmas meeting. Irish raider; absent since last December but in top form previously; interesting contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (40/1 +20%) The Imposter |
40/1(+20%) | (10) The Imposter 40/1, Made it a remarkable 9 wins in 10 starts when seeing off 5 rivals at Chepstow (3m, heavy) last December. Not seen since, though, and this is a very hard race in which to return from an absence in. 6 wins in a row in 2023; may have more left in the tank but in a hot race back from layoff. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Doyen Quest impressed when forging clear in a Cheltenham handicap over 3m last weekend and, officially 5lb well-in at the weights under a penalty, he looks obvious shortlist material. That said, if the quick turnaround catches him out, it may be BACKMERSACKME who takes full advantage. The son of Getaway wasn't disgraced when finishing fourth on his handicap debut off this mark over 2m4f at Worcester in September and, fit from a satisfactory spin on the Flat last month, he gets the vote. Catch Him Derry has done nothing but improve and is overlooked at your peril.
James Owen denied Dan Skelton in a valuable handicap hurdle at Cheltenham last weekend and history may repeat itself, with ONE BIG BANG, who will be well suited by the return to 3m, taken to see off progressive Skelton pair Doyen Quest and Catch Him Derry. Returning Grade 2 novice hurdle winner Kerryhill is another very interesting runner.
The step up in trip could be just what PATRIOTIK (nap) needs after his staying-on fifth in the 2m3f Silver Trophy at Chepstow.

1st (8) (9/4 +18%) Gold For Alec |
9/4(+18%) | (8) Gold For Alec 9/4, Showed improved form making a quick switch to handicaps when second in 9-runner event at Wincanton (15.2f, good, 11/1) 27 days ago. May do better still and has to be of interest with promising 7-lb claimer retaining the ride. Low-mileage 4yo who ran big race in defeat on last month's seasonal/handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (11/2 +66%) Latin Verse |
11/2(+66%) | (3) Latin Verse 11/2, Won twice over hurdles last season, including an impressive handicap success at Ludlow in February. However, hasn't been at his best both starts this season. Shaped well on last month's hurdling return at Chepstow; could have a say in this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (17/2 -209%) Magic Seven |
17/2(-209%) | (4) Magic Seven 17/2, Capitalised on a falling mark in 10-runner handicap hurdle at Exeter (16.7f, good, 10/1) 15 days ago, settling better over a shorter trip. That form has the potential to work out so a 6 lb rise may not be enough to prevent the follow up. Won off reduced mark at Exeter this month and ought to remain competitive after 6lb rise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (7/2 +42%) An Bradan Feasa |
7/2(+42%) | (1) An Bradan Feasa 7/2, Won juvenile event at Ballinrobe on hurdling debut (final start for Joseph O'Brien) last season and also successful at Cheltenham on second outing for Jack Jones. Failed to kick on thereafter but ran about as well as could be expected in minor event back at Cheltenham on return last month. Useful juvenile hurdler last season; contests this handicap from a workable mark; player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (4/1 -14%) Pyrotechnic |
4/1(-14%) | (7) Pyrotechnic 4/1, Winner on the Flat in France. Definite promise to glean from first 2 starts over hurdles and he was too geed-up making handicap debut after 10 months off at Wincanton 27 days ago. That should have taken the freshness out of him and he's potentially well treated. Led for a long way on seasonal/handicap debut and might come on for the run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (16/1 -33%) Kourosh |
16/1(-33%) | (5) Kourosh 16/1, Fair winner on the Flat in Germany who bolted up on his Wetherby hurdle debut last November. No real progress thereafter, pulled on in handicap at Kempton (2m) when last seen in April and met the same fate at Chepstow on his reappearance last month. Something to prove. Dropped out tamely on last two outings; leap of faith required to support him here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (66/1 -100%) Ace Rothstein |
66/1(-100%) | (9) Ace Rothstein 66/1, Showed fair form when runner-up in a Huntingdon novice in March 2023 but failed to justify support in a Kempton handicap last November and produced a laboured effort on the Flat for this yard at Kempton recently. Plenty to prove. Well beaten on handicap hurdle debut last November and also in poor form on the Flat since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (11/1 -38%) Gardener |
11/1(-38%) | (2) Gardener 11/1, Fairly useful dual winning chaser for this yard last season but finished a well-held sixth back over hurdles on Fontwell reappearance. Stumbled and unseated rider second at Newton Abbot since. Dual chase winner last season but seems to have lost his way; others have less to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (25/1 +24%) Fransham |
25/1(+24%) | (6) Fransham 25/1, Sixteen runs since last win in 2021 and offered little on his reappearance at Market Rasen last month. Others more persuasive despite falling mark. Patently not the force of old but lurks on a dangerous mark and can't be ruled out. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Dropping back in trip worked the oracle for MAGIC SEVEN last time out as he comfortably saw off his rivals at Exeter for a fourth career success. A 6lb rise looks manageable for the son of Doyen, and he may be able to see off Gold For Alec, who ran a career-best when second on handicap debut at Wincanton last month. Gardener and Pyrotechnic are capable of being in the shake-up as well.
GOLD FOR ALEC showed improved form making an early switch to handicaps when runner-up at Wincanton last month and, with that form proving strong, he's fancied to go one better, especially with promising 7-lb claimer Callum Pritchard retaining the ride. Pyrotechnic and Magic Seven head the dangers.
Gold For Alec went down fighting on last month's handicap debut but the one with a bit of class about him is AN BRADAN FEASA.

1st (4) (4/1 +47%) Lucky Place |
4/1(+47%) | (4) Lucky Place 4/1, Improving type who opened his account in Doncaster novice in December. Signed off with an excellent fourth of 21 in Coral Cup Handicap at Cheltenham in March. Open to more improvement on his return. Steadily progressive, fourth in last season's Coral Cup; has to be seriously considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (7/2 -17%) Blueking D'oroux |
7/2(-17%) | (1) Blueking D'oroux 7/2, Smart hurdler who signed off for last term with a solid fourth to Impaire Et Passe in Select Hurdle at Sandown (21.5f) in April. Also took this contest a year ago so he's a leading player again. Last year's winner; ran well on final start last term; big player again despite a penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (10/1 +0%) Colonel Mustard |
10/1(+0%) | (3) Colonel Mustard 10/1, Smart hurdler who resumed with a good second of 3 in conditions hurdle at Sligo (17.8f) 29 days ago, finishing well after an error 2 out. It's now 15 runs since his last win in 2021 but this Irish raider holds solid form claims. Just one hurdles win but has run well in defeat numerous times; unlikely to be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (2/1 +11%) Golden Ace |
2/1(+11%) | (6) Golden Ace 2/1, Very useful hurdler who remains unbeaten in this sphere and went 4-4 in listed event at Cheltenham (20.2f) in April. This demands more but she's well in the mix with more to offer. 4-4 last term including at Cheltenham Festival; may not have reached her limit just yet. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (7/2 +30%) Thunder Rock |
7/2(+30%) | (5) Thunder Rock 7/2, Very smart chaser who scored twice last season but was pulled up in the Bowl at Aintree final run in April. Has a good record fresh which bodes well for him now returning over the smaller obstacles and certainly not out of things. Classy chaser; impossible to discount on return to hurdles but others may have more speed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
GOLDEN ACE, who supplemented her Ryanair Mares' Hurdle win at the Cheltenham Festival with a comfortable Listed-race success at the same venue when she was last seen, is hard to oppose with her bid to maintain her unbeaten status over timber. The terms of this event give her a solid chance of coping with her penalties gained as a novice and further progression is very possible. Last year's winner Blueking D'oroux is an obvious threat given his record when fresh. Triumph Hurdle third Salver also adds depth to a solid renewal.
None of these can be ruled out but BLUEKING D'OROUX holds just the edge on form so is fancied to repeat his success in this event 12 months ago. Jeremy Scott's mare Golden Ace remains unbeaten in this sphere and rates a big threat though, while Irish challenger Colonel Mustard and Nicky Henderson's progressive Lucky Place are firmly in the picture too in this cracking Grade 2 contest.
A fascinating event can go to the upwardly mobile LUCKY PLACE, with last year's winner Blueking d'Oroux feared most.

17/2(+29%) | (2) Binge Worthy 17/2, Lightly-raced winner under NH rules. 80/1, creditable seventh of 14 in minor event hurdle at this course (19.3f, good to soft), going in snatches. Off 6 months. Makes handicap hurdle debut for excellent yard. Well below best last while and an opening mark of 119 looks harsh enough but respected. |

2nd (18) (9/2 +55%) Billy Lee Swagger |
9/2(+55%) | (18) Billy Lee Swagger 9/2, Promising sort. Course winner. Shaped well when fourth of 24 in handicap hurdle (10/1) at this course (19.4f, good to soft), faring best of those held up. Off 6 months. Shortlist material from what could be a lenient mark, still. Last seen finishing fourth of 24 in a competitive C&D handicap in April; yard in form. |

4th (16) (9/1 +36%) Gabriel Ranger |
9/1(+36%) | (16) Gabriel Ranger 9/1, Winner over hurdles at Cork in August. Bit below form sixth of 15 in handicap hurdle (9/2) at Listowel (18f, soft) 59 days ago, weakening when not fluent last. Beaten favourite at Listowel off 6lb higher; should have a chance if it doesn't turn soft. |

6th (6) (28/1 -56%) Camino Rock |
28/1(-56%) | (6) Camino Rock 28/1, Winner in hurdle at Kilbeggan in September. Respectable seventh of 13 in handicap hurdle at Listowel (24f, soft, 16/1) 59 days ago. Blinkers replace cheekpieces. Failed to back up Kilbeggan win at Listowel; first-time blinkers added to tongue-tie. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (13/2 +13%) Ask Anything |
13/2(+13%) | (4) Ask Anything 13/2, Promising type. 14/1, pulled up in handicap chase at Navan (24.2f, good to soft) 6 days ago, pulled up after second. Switches from chase to hurdles and handicapper given him a major chance. Hood left off. Sent off favourite for both hurdle starts last season, resulting in a first and second. |

16/1(-14%) | (15) Phils Choice 16/1, Career best when winning 12-runner handicap hurdle at Limerick (20f, heavy, 9/1), keeping on well. Off 11 months and market may guide as to current well-being. Stable is flying at present and Tiernan Power Roche is excellent value for his 7lb claim. |

Makes handicap hurdle debut. Surprise winner here last year; 558-day absence to overcome; best watched on handicap bow. |

Not taken lightly for successful stable. Doesn't look that well treated back over hurdles and hasn't looked a winner in waiting. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
The Philip Rothwell-trained BILLY LEE SWAGGER would be hard to beat if fit enough on his first start since April. Fourth in a stronger race at the Festival, the five-year-old remains potentially well treated off a mark of 104. With his stable in fine form in recent weeks, the gelding can record a second career win. A fast-finishing second over the minimum trip here just over a week ago, the Matthew Smith-trained Cozone should again be involved. Stepping up almost half a mile is also very much in his favour. The lightly-raced Pax has to be of definite interest in what is only his second start in handicap company.
Any number to consider but there's an air of unfinished business about BILLY LEE SWAGGER in handicaps so he's offered on his return to action. Depalma upped his game in novice company at Wexford so he demands consideration, with Ask Anything also of interest back over timber.
A chance is taken on STAY GOLD, who gets in here off a basement mark and always looked like one who would improve in handicaps

1st (7) (11/4 +31%) Royale Pagaille |
11/4(+31%) | (7) Royale Pagaille 11/4, Not seen since falling 3 out in the Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham in January but he claimed the scalp of Bravemansgame on his return in this 12 months ago, further enhancing his superb record at this venue. Another big run could well be on the cards. Won this 12 months ago on reappearance; leading player if at the top of his game. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (15/8 +17%) Grey Dawning |
15/8(+17%) | (5) Grey Dawning 15/8, Took really well to fences last term, bagging his third win in Grade 1 Turners Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and posting a solid third in Manifesto Novices Chase at Aintree final run. Most likeable sort who hasn't reached his ceiling. Won Grade 1 novice at Cheltenham Festival; brings star potential to second chasing season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (8/1 +33%) Bravemansgame |
8/1(+33%) | (2) Bravemansgame 8/1, King George winner in 2022 but went winless when not operating at his best last term, including when runner-up in this and the King George at Kempton. Just a respectable comeback in the Charlie Hall at Wetherby 3 weeks ago and opposable at this level nowadays. Blinkers now fitted. 2022 King George winner; hasn't hit the same heights more recently but he's not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (10/1 +50%) Gold Tweet |
10/1(+50%) | (4) Gold Tweet 10/1, Smart French chaser but seems better over hurdles (winner of the Cleeve Hurdle in 2022/23) and looks up against it at this level. The return to Britain could prompt another form surge, but this French 7yo looks opposable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (13/2 +46%) Limerick Lace |
13/2(+46%) | (9) Limerick Lace 13/2, Smart mare who arrives on the back of an excellent second season over fences, winning 3 times, notably the Grade 2 Mares' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. Excuses in the Grand National final start and she's not taken lightly. Won mares' Grade 2 at Cheltenham Festival; in excellent hands to continue to progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (8/1 -33%) Ahoy Senor |
8/1(-33%) | (1) Ahoy Senor 8/1, Not a fluent jumper of fences but top-class on his day and shaped as if as good as ever when third in Old Roan at Aintree on return 4 weeks ago, leaving the impression he'd have pushed the winner closer had he been asked for his effort sooner under a more patient ride than usual. High on shortlist. Highly creditable 3rd in Old Roan on reappearance; could have big say now back up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (20/1 -100%) Capodanno |
20/1(-100%) | (3) Capodanno 20/1, High-class chaser who got back to winning ways in Grade 2 Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham in January and similar form despite shaping as if the drop in trip was against him when fourth in the Ryanair. Excuses in Grand National and Punchestown Gold Cup last 2 starts but career best is required here. Inconsistent but won Cotswold Chase in January & represents all-conquering Willie Mullins. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Grey Dawning has to be respected on his return to action following a very successful novice campaign, but he could be vulnerable in this company without a prep run. With that in mind, preference is for HEWICK, who improved on his comeback performance when narrowly denied by Envoi Allen at Down Royal earlier in the month. Last season's King George winner went on to finish third in a top-class renewal of the Punchestown Gold Cup in May and is arguably the one to beat on that form. Royale Pagaille cannot be discounted having taken this contest 12 months ago, while Bravemansgame should not be written off in first-time blinkers.
AHOY SENOR is a risky betting proposition due to his suspect jumping, but he looked as good as ever ridden more patiently than usual when third under top weight in the Old Roan at Aintree on his comeback last month and could be worth chancing. The obvious threat is Grey Dawning, who was the leading British-trained novice last season and should have even more to offer this term. Haydock specialist and defending champion Royale Pagaille completes the shortlist.
Haydock brings out the best in ROYALE PAGAILLE, who won this 12 months ago on his reappearance, and he can land back-to-back runnings.

1st (4) (7/4 +22%) William Cody |
7/4(+22%) | (4) William Cody 7/4, Dual C&D winner who deservedly resumed winning ways when landing a 4-runner handicap at Leicester (2½m, heavy) in March. Mark suffered as a result but entitled to be sharper for his latest Wetherby fourth 21 days ago and all 3 career victories have come on right-handed tracks. May not have much margin for error off current mark but was second in this race last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (4/1 +11%) Hystery Bere |
4/1(+11%) | (3) Hystery Bere 4/1, Fairly useful hurdle/chase winner. Returned to action with a respectable third of 5 in handicap chase at Exeter (19.2f) in October and seemed to find test inadequate when fifth back over hurdles at Sandown 13 days ago. Not one to write off with blinkers reapplied. Ran quite well in Exeter chase last month but safely held over hurdles since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (5/2 -43%) Whizz Kid |
5/2(-43%) | (1) Whizz Kid 5/2, Fairly useful hurdler who has come to chasing quite late but ran close to his best recent hurdles form when third of 5 in handicap chase at Ayr (16.5f) 21 days ago, warming to his task jumping-wise. Merits consideration with the prospect of more to come in this sphere. Up in trip. Multiple Flat/hurdle winner who made pretty good chasing debut this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (20/1 -100%) Young Merlin |
20/1(-100%) | (2) Young Merlin 20/1, Multiple Flat/hurdles winner. Largely held form well earlier this year but made an inauspicious start in this sphere, already off the bridle prior to unseating in handicap chase at Southwell (24.3f) 51 days ago. Needs to leave that well behind. Went very close over hurdles this summer but unseated rider on last month's chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (4/1 +20%) Greenrock Abbey |
4/1(+20%) | (5) Greenrock Abbey 4/1, Twice a winner over fences during 2022/23. Lightly raced but consistent in defeat thereafter, making frame next 6 starts before a lesser effort when fifth of 7 in handicap chase at Ludlow in March. Record fresh a positive. Absent since March but has very good record when fresh and resumes on a good mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
WHIZZ KID showed plenty of promise when finishing third on his chasing debut at Ayr three weeks ago and he tops the shortlist here off a 2lb lower mark. Hystery Bere failed to fire over hurdles last time but is a player based on his chasing third at Exeter prior to that, while Greenrock Abbey edges out William Cody to be best of the rest.
Dual C&D winner WILLIAM CODY has yet to finish out of the first 2 over fences around here and, with a recent run under his belt, he could well be ready to strike having eased a little in the weights. Whizz Kid jumped better as the race wore on when third on his chase debut at Ayr 3 weeks ago and he's a threat, along with Hystery Bere, who is fancied to benefit from the step back up in trip.
Dropped 2lb since last month's pretty good chasing debut, WHIZZ KID is sure to appreciate today's ease in grade.

1st (1) (13/8 +41%) Martator |
13/8(+41%) | (1) Martator 13/8, Ended last season firmly on the up and hit the ground running with a smooth success over C&D on return. Hasn't finished improving, so makes plenty of appeal. Improving chaser who scored tidily over C&D three weeks ago, completing a four-timer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (5/1 +33%) Kotmask |
5/1(+33%) | (6) Kotmask 5/1, A three-time scorer over fences last term who returned with a solid performance when third to Martator on reappearance. Better off with that rival now and shouldn't be dismissed. Second-season chaser who ties in closely with Martator on C&D reappearance running. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (5/1 +9%) Sans Bruit |
5/1(+9%) | (2) Sans Bruit 5/1, Ex-French gelding jumped his rivals into submission from the front in Red Rum handicap at Aintree in April. Solid efforts since, including on return at Exeter 15 days ago, and remains with potential. Won well at Aintree; not disgraced in the Haldon Gold Cup on reappearance; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (9/1 +0%) Triple Trade |
9/1(+0%) | (5) Triple Trade 9/1, Course winner. 13/2, sixth of 8 in handicap chase at Cheltenham (15.9f, good) 29 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Becoming well treated. Finished 3l third off 3lb higher in this race last year; not solid on 2024 form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (20/1 -67%) Harper's Brook |
20/1(-67%) | (3) Harper's Brook 20/1, Has his quirks but more than fair share of ability too, left clear when successful at Sandown in February. Disappointing on final outing for Ben Pauling last season, though, and broke blood vessel on stable debut at Aintree a fortnight ago. Useful but is quirky and has sometimes snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (9/2 +31%) Marvel De Cerisy |
9/2(+31%) | (4) Marvel De Cerisy 9/2, Has been in fine form at Auteuil, winning listed handicap hurdle and handicap chase, drawing clear 6 weeks ago. Mark looks fair in Britain and merits consideration. 2-2 since joining the George/Zetterholm stable, both wins at Auteuil; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (14/1 -40%) Frere D'armes |
14/1(-40%) | (8) Frere D'armes 14/1, It's now 14 runs since his last win in 2022 and, while he ran with credit behind Martator on return, he doesn't look all that likely to turn the tables. Second in this race 12 months ago; lesser effort back here on latest outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (40/1 -150%) Wewillgowithplanb |
40/1(-150%) | (9) Wewillgowithplanb 40/1, Hurdle winner in Ireland who struck twice over fences for Richard Bandey, latterly at Leicester (2m, heavy) in February. Back on track over hurdles at Newton Abbot last time and shouldn't be dismissed. 2-4 over fences but has something to prove in this grade; best form in Class 4. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
MARTATOR was value for more than the winning margin when scoring over C&D on his return earlier in the month ad the seven-year-old should be able to uphold form with Kotmask (third). He can land the five-timer at the main expense of Marvel De Cerisy, who has made a terrific start to the season in France with valuable wins over both hurdles and fences. Sans Bruit went well for a long way in the Haldon Gold Cup and must be considered on his return to this level.
MARTATOR is highly progressive and had something up his sleeve when making a winning return over C&D, so he's marginally preferred to Sans Bruit, who has a bigger performance in him. Marvel de Cerisy is a fascinating contender, too.
Progressive MARTATOR (nap) is taken to complete a 5-timer and maintain his unbeaten C&D record. Kotmask ties in with the selection.

4/1(+53%) | (4) Heads Up 4/1, Improved from debut when second of 9 in bumper at Galway (16.4f, good to soft, 14/1) 4 weeks ago, clear of rest. Can progress again with experience. Runner-up to a smart type at Galway last month; could still be on the upgrade. |

2nd (10) (66/1 -164%) Shesakindofmagic |
66/1(-164%) | (10) Shesakindofmagic 66/1, Showed a bit when sixth of 10 in bumper at Clonmel (16.4f, heavy, 16/1) on debut 12 months ago. First run for yard after leaving Ms Margaret Mullins. Mid-division in a Clonmel bumper for Mags Mullins a year ago; up against it here. |

3rd (8) (33/1 +18%) Pour One More |
33/1(+18%) | (8) Pour One More 33/1, €21,000 3-y-o, Pour Moi gelding. Half-brother to fair hurdler Katherine. Dam unraced half-sister to useful bumper winner/useful hurdler (stayed 2½m) Heath Hunter and fairly useful chaser (stayed 21f) Oscar Wilde. Newcomer from a good family; best watched here on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (11/1 +45%) Jamada |
11/1(+45%) | (5) Jamada 11/1, €7,500 3-y-o, Affinisea gelding. Dam (c99/h119) 2m-2½m hurdle winner (stayed 3m), also 8.6f winner on Flat. Boasts an eye-catching jockey booking. Nice mix of speed and stamina in pedigree and interesting rider booking; worth watching. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (6/1 +20%) Jerry From Kerry |
6/1(+20%) | (2) Jerry From Kerry 6/1, Winner in bumper at Ballinrobe in September. 11/2, creditable 4 lengths second of 6 to reopposing Jacob's Ladder in bumper at Down Royal (16.9f, good to soft) 22 days ago. Only went down late in a winner's contest at Down Royal three weeks ago and should go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (22/1 -57%) Scamall Bawn |
22/1(-57%) | (3) Scamall Bawn 22/1, Winner in bumper at Cork in October 2023. 28/1, fourth of 5 in bumper at Naas (15.6f, heavy) when last seen 9 months ago. Off for nine months but his best form is when fresh and the ground should be ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (4/1 -20%) Jacob's Ladder |
4/1(-20%) | (1) Jacob's Ladder 4/1, 8/15, won 6-runner bumper at Down Royal (16.9f, good to soft) 22 days ago by 4 lengths from Jerry From Kerry, easing clear. Carries penalty and looks a good jumps prospect. Made no mistake when accounting for Jerry From Kerry at Down Royal; should do similar. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (200/1 -100%) Mister Frostie |
200/1(-100%) | (7) Mister Frostie 200/1, Made an unpromising start to his career when last of 14 in bumper at this course (16f, soft, 50/1) on debut 6 months ago, folding having led until home turn. Plum last in a bumper here in May; makes little appeal on that evidence. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Recent Down Royal winner JACOB'S LADDER should be able to confirm that form with runner-up Jerry From Kerry. Gordon Elliott's five-year-old had plenty in hand on that occasion, being afforded the luxury of easing down close home. Jerry From Kerry should once again provide the main opposition. Well supported when runner-up at Roscommon on debut, the Emmet Mullins-trained gelding easily beat a subsequent winner next time at Ballinrobe. Runner-up at Galway last time, Heads Up should be good enough to make his presence felt in a race of this nature.
Gordon Elliott looks to hold the aces in this closing bumper and his JACOB'S LADDER can supplement his Down Royal success. Stablemate Ma Jacks Hill won his completed start in points back in the spring so he can provide most resistance, with Heads Up and Jamada another couple worth keeping a close eye on.
Despite the winner's penalty, JACOB'S LADDER should be able to re-establish his Down Royal superiority over Jerry From Kerry

13/2(-30%) | (2) Prince Achille 13/2, 3-time C&D winner who again ran well when second of 10 in handicap at this C&D 15 days ago. Likely to remain competitive. Goes well here and runner-up on his last two visits; thereabouts. |

2nd (11) (13/2 +19%) Rock Armour |
13/2(+19%) | (11) Rock Armour 13/2, Got back on track when second of 7 in handicap at this C&D (4/1) 12 days ago. In the mix with a repeat. Best effort yet when chasing home the favourite over C&D recently. |

11/2(+21%) | (8) Cakewalk 11/2, Belatedly matched debut form when third of 9 in handicap at Chelmsford City (10f, 4/1) 16 days ago. Makes tapeta debut. Kept finding to finish third at Chelmsford and this stiffer track should be favourable. |

4th (6) (3/1 +54%) Rainwater |
3/1(+54%) | (6) Rainwater 3/1, Finally got off the mark in 11-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f, 10/1) 8 days ago. Nudged up 5 lb. Recent Wolverhampton winner up 5lb but he's unexposed at about this sort of trip. |

5th (3) (6/1 +8%) Urban Road |
6/1(+8%) | (3) Urban Road 6/1, Stepped up on recent run when good third of 10 in handicap at this C&D 15 days ago, nearest finish. Must enter calculations. Got closer to Prince Achille the last time despite finding some trouble; considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (15/2 -15%) Berry Edge |
15/2(-15%) | (4) Berry Edge 15/2, Bounced back to winning ways in 9-runner handicap at this C&D 25 days ago, by 1¼ lengths from Prince Achille, slowly away. Not an obvious type to follow up given his overall strike rate. Recent C&D winner and a 3lb rise won't hurt if in the same form this afternoon. |

20/1(+39%) | (12) Leap Year Lad 20/1, Thirteen runs since last win in 2023. 12/1, eighth of 9 in handicap at Southwell (12.1f) 16 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Hard to fancy. Stuck on a losing run and has struggled badly since a third on turf during the summer. |

9th (9) (33/1 -65%) Tilsitt |
33/1(-65%) | (9) Tilsitt 33/1, C&D winner. Thirty one runs since last win in 2022 but posted creditable third of 8 in handicap (13/2) at Musselburgh (12.5f, good to soft) 17 days ago. Engaged 3.39 here Friday. Proving expensive to follow and down the field here yesterday. |

10th (10) (9/1 +55%) Genta |
9/1(+55%) | (10) Genta 9/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Respectable fourth of 11 in handicap at Bath (8f, soft, 18/1) 23 days ago. Up in trip. Must improve. Initial promise; the ground was soft for handicap debut and could be given another chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (1) (40/1 -186%) Three Platoon |
40/1(-186%) | (1) Three Platoon 40/1, Won a brace of C&D handicaps in good style in October/November. Disappointing over jumps and in stronger company since, however. Won twice over C&D not all that long ago but can lose his form, as has happened. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
ROCK ARMOUR shaped well after conceding first run to the winner when coming from well off the pace to finish second over this track and trip earlier this month. Nudged up 2lb with a stronger pace forecast this time, he gets the nod to go one place better. Recent C&D winner Berry Edge can emerge as the main danger to the selection off a 3lb higher mark, while the largely consistent Prince Achille is noted too.
URBAN ROAD stepped up on his recent run when finishing a good third over C&D just over a fortnight ago and a reproduction of that form may well suffice. Prince Achille and Rock Armour are a couple of potential threats.
A few with chances but the suggestion is RAINWATER who may have dropped on the right sort of trip.

Won this two years ago and capable of having a big say if at the top of her game. |

16/1(-60%) | (2) Monbeg Genius 16/1, Highly progressive over fences as a novice, winning 3 handicaps before ending campaign with an excellent third in Ultima. Just the one decent effort last season when third in Coral Gold Cup at Newbury. Starts the new campaign on a nice mark as a result. Failed to kick on last season but still only eight and not discounted on reappearance. |

4th (8) (7/2 +56%) Credo |
7/2(+56%) | (8) Credo 7/2, Has a decent strike rate and returned with a respectable effort at Wincanton last month. Should be spot on now and looks a player. 2lb lower than when second in this last year and could improve for recent comeback third. |

|PU| (9) (12/1 +0%) Pepe Le Moko |
12/1(+0%) | (9) Pepe Le Moko 12/1, Winless following 5 attempts over hurdles but quickly put that right sent chasing, taking 2 of his first 3 starts (at up to 20.5f). Probably needed the run at Cheltenham on return and remains with some potential. Faded on first try at staying trip but may have needed the run; only 6; retains potential. |

|PU| (7) (13/8 +80%) Hititi |
13/8(+80%) | (7) Hititi 13/8, Likeable sort who returned to chasing with an excellent second in first-time cheekpieces at Chepstow. Still potentially thrown in on hurdles form and looks the one to beat. Well treated on hurdle form and good second over fences latest; could build on that run. |

|PU| (6) (15/2 +25%) My Silver Lining |
15/2(+25%) | (6) My Silver Lining 15/2, Relished increased test of stamina when bagging fourth chase win in Classic Chase at Warwick in January. Excellent placed efforts in Grand National Trial here and Midlands National at Uttoxeter next 2 starts but below form subsequently, including on return (pulled up). Pulled up on reappearance but had a superb campaign last season and is not written off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (16/1 +20%) Prairie Wolf |
16/1(+20%) | (4) Prairie Wolf 16/1, Winner of 3 of his half-a-dozen starts switched to fences last term, finishing a solid third off this mark in a strong 10-runner Ayr handicap on final start in April. Yet to fire this season, though. Something to prove regarding stamina and current form, but was progressive last season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (28/1 +15%) Prince Des Fichaux |
28/1(+15%) | (11) Prince Des Fichaux 28/1, Ended last season with a poor run and failed to beat a rival at Carlisle on return, so has a bit to prove at this level. Went close in the Eider in February but beaten a long way on last month's reappearance. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
MY SILVER LINING arrives here on the back of two poor performances, but there were valid excuses for those defeats and they also mean that she arrives here 1lb lower than when third in the Midlands Grand National in March. That followed a fine second in the Grand National Trial over 3m4f at this venue the previous month and a reproduction of either of those performances would make her hard to beat. Credo was second in this race last season and could go well once again, while Fontaine Collonges and Le Milos are the pick of the remainder.
HITITI made a positive return to the larger obstacles when second at Chepstow and, based on hurdling form, he's well enough treated to go one better. Take Your Time has a good record over fences and looks the main threat ahead of Dare To Shout.
Having done very well this autumn since being switched to fences, DARE TO SHOUT is taken to follow up his win at Carlisle.

16/1(-78%) | (1) Caballero Cliff 16/1, Muhaarar colt. Half-brother to 3 winners, including fair hurdler/chaser Itsalonglongroad. Dam, 1½m winner, half-sister to useful hurdler (2m winner) Rigidity. Makes some appeal. Out of a Flat-winning close relative of Derby runner-up Dragon Dancer; stable runs two. |

3rd (8) (22/1 +45%) Uhtred Ragnarson |
22/1(+45%) | (8) Uhtred Ragnarson 22/1, Offered little at Exeter first time out and is likely to struggle again. 25-1, raced too freely and may underwhelming debut when well-held ninth at Exeter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (8/1 -33%) Lion Hill |
8/1(-33%) | (5) Lion Hill 8/1, Once-raced maiden. Fifth of 13 in bumper at this C&D (good, 12/1) on NH debut 46 days ago, faring best of those held up. Should build on that. Kept on for very respectable fifth over C&D on last month's debut and can improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (28/1 -100%) Unlce Remus |
28/1(-100%) | (9) Unlce Remus 28/1, Frontiersman gelding. Dam (h77), maiden hurdler, 1m/8.6f winner on Flat. Worth a market check. Out of a fair 1m/8.6f Flat winner; Caballero Cliff may be the stable's main hope. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (6/1 +8%) Whatyouwaitingfor |
6/1(+8%) | (10) Whatyouwaitingfor 6/1, €8,000 3-y-o, Axxos gelding. Dam unraced. Not much to go on pedigree wise but stable has quite a good record in these events. 3,000euros yearling; with good stable but pedigree does not leap off the page. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (10/11 +67%) Risky Spin |
10/11(+67%) | (6) Risky Spin 10/11, Highland Reel gelding. Closely related to a winner, and half-brother to bumper winner Swashbuckle and fair hurdler Bashful. Rare bumper runner for top Flat yard and clearly of interest. Out of a fairly useful 1m4f AW winner; represents much respected Flat stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (66/1 -32%) Frangipani |
66/1(-32%) | (11) Frangipani 66/1, Postponed filly. Half-sister to 3 winners on Flat, including useful 5f winner Wise Words. Dam 8.3f-1¼m winner who stayed 1½m. Half-sister to very useful 5f winner Wise Words; dam useful 1m-1m2f winner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (25/1 +0%) Crowd Quake |
25/1(+0%) | (2) Crowd Quake 25/1, 11,000 gns 3-y-o, Night of Thunder gelding. Closely related to 2 winners on Flat, including fairly useful 1m winner Dubai Quality and half-brother to 2 winners. Dam 7f-9.5f winner. Out of a dual Group 3 Flat winner; rare runner under National Hunt rules for stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (12) (50/1 +24%) Memoranda |
50/1(+24%) | (12) Memoranda 50/1, Bobby's Kitten filly. Sister to a winner on Flat and half-sister to 2 winners, including Henshaw. Dam 1½m winner who stayed 1¾m. Out of a fairly useful 1m4f winner; debutante from Newmarket Flat stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (7) (8/1 +60%) Tenbob Tommy |
8/1(+60%) | (7) Tenbob Tommy 8/1, Ten Sovereigns gelding. Dam 6f winner. Might not have the stamina for this sort of test. First foal from a fair 6f 2yo winner; others appeal more on paper. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (3) (33/1 -450%) Fran The Man |
33/1(-450%) | (3) Fran The Man 33/1, Showed ability when third of 13 in bumper at Huntingdon (15.8f, good) on NH debut but failed to build on it at Aintree next time. Not one to write off. Safely held at Aintree this month but has claims if judged on his run here in October. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
LION HILL showed enough when fifth on his racecourse bow over C&D last month to suggest that, with the benefit of the experience, he can be successful in a race of this nature. Fran The Man didn't build on a promising debut when seventh at Aintree last time but it is far too soon to be writing him off, while Risky Spin and Whatyouwaitingfor are newcomers to note.
RISKY SPIN is related to a bumper winner and represents a top Flat yard, so he's probably the one to side with for all that Whatyouwaitingfor and Herbygoesbananas also make some appeal on paper.
Preference is for Andrew Balding's newcomer RISKY SPIN, who has a pretty good pedigree for this type of race.

1st (7) (22/1 -10%) Jalisco Star |
22/1(-10%) | (7) Jalisco Star 22/1, Good winner from 5 lb lower mark at Bangor (23f) in March and similar form when fourth on return/following wind op at that venue in October. Below best on first try chasing at Carlisle 12 days ago and connections quick to opt for a return to this sphere. Has won over hurdles but dropped out over fences last time and others appeal more. |

2nd (1) (10/1 -67%) Thank You Ma'am |
10/1(-67%) | (1) Thank You Ma'am 10/1, Made the frame on several occasions last term and positive start to present campaign, again finding only one too good at Ludlow (21.2f) 16 days ago, pulling clear of remainder. Mark has crept up a little more but he's knocking firmly on the door. Runner-up for a fifth time (from nine hurdle starts) when narrowly denied at Ludlow. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (11/4 +39%) Ri Na Cuirte |
11/4(+39%) | (8) Ri Na Cuirte 11/4, Low-mileage sort who was again very well backed and proved a different proposition after 6 months off to score at Fontwell (25.7f) 15 days ago, conjuring a late rally to nab idling runner-up close home. Possibilities again up 5 lb. Got up late on to deny an in-form, idling leader over 3m2f at Fontwell; front two clear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (12/1 -60%) The Bold Thady |
12/1(-60%) | (5) The Bold Thady 12/1, Fortunate to double his tally at Worcester (23f) in September and whilst he backed that up when runner-up at Wincanton (24.7f) last month, highlighted why he's not one to take short odds about, carrying head awkwardly. This rates an even tougher assignment. More exposed than some in here but in a good run of form and he stays well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (11/4 +21%) Copshill Lad |
11/4(+21%) | (3) Copshill Lad 11/4, Placed on 3 of his 5 starts over hurdles last season and justified support after 9 months off when scoring on yard debut at Stratford (22f) 47 days ago, needing every inch of the trip. Return to 3m in his favour on that evidence and that may not prove his limit. Took a while to pick up at Stratford but got there in the end on stable debut; raised 4lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (13/2 +68%) Rubies Or Gold |
13/2(+68%) | (9) Rubies Or Gold 13/2, Placed on the second of 2 starts in Irish bumpers (for Mags Mullins). Showed some promise on qualifying runs over hurdles but no immediate impact for switch to handicaps in recent months. Further step up in trip ought to suit and first-time cheekpieces could put an extra edge on him. Could improve for this longer trip and the addition of cheekpieces; good jockey booking. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (20/1 +0%) King Of The Lake |
20/1(+0%) | (4) King Of The Lake 20/1, Runner-up on 6 of his first 7 starts over hurdles but well below best on final outing last term and fared no better after 6 months off when eighth of 13 in handicap hurdle at Exeter (23.1f) 32 days ago. Needs to leave that behind if he's to figure. Tongue strap fitted. Has the form to figure if the addition of a tongue-tie gets him back on track. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (7/1 +13%) Best Life |
7/1(+13%) | (6) Best Life 7/1, Steady improver in handful of hurdle starts last season, very good second of 10 behind a subsequent winner on handicap debut at Haydock (24.3f) in March. Totally unexposed over staying trips and he needs considering on return with further progress on the cards. Improved for 3m when second on handicap debut; likely has a lot more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (14/1 -211%) Spring Gale |
14/1(-211%) | (2) Spring Gale 14/1, Steadily progressive over hurdles following wind surgery last term, confirming promise of her previous placed efforts when clearing away from 15 rivals in mares' maiden at Chepstow (19.5f) in the spring. Goes handicapping with yard in good form and she's unexposed at 3m. Maiden winner; brings potential into handicaps, especially now raised in distance. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The Ben Clarke stable can do little wrong at present, and this appeals as an ideal opportunity for RI NA CUIRTE to land the double after a determined success over further at Fontwell last time out. Copshill Lad was a major improver on his first start for new connections when scoring at Stratford on his latest outing and is likely to enter calculations. Spring Gale must also be of interest stepping up in trip.
BEST LIFE improved steadily in a handful of hurdle outings as a novice, posting his best effort yet when runner-up on handicap debut at Haydock in the spring. Appealing as the type to progress further this winter, he's given the nod to go one place better on return. Copshill Lad and Spring Gale are a couple of others to consider, whilst market confidence behind Rubies or Gold, upped further in trip/equipped with cheekpieces would also look significant.
Bottom weight RUBIES OR GOLD gets the chance to show what he can do over a much longer trip and Sean Bowen is booked.

1st (7) (10/1 -67%) Zip |
10/1(-67%) | (7) Zip 10/1, 7/2, won 9-runner handicap at Doncaster (7f, heavy) 14 days ago, always holding on. This 3-time C&D scorer can go well again. Recently won in the mud; does have form here and off much higher marks. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (17/2 +39%) Royal Zabeel |
17/2(+39%) | (6) Royal Zabeel 17/2, Lightly-raced winner. Sole run for James Tate when creditable third of 9 in handicap at Pontefract (6f, good, 5/1), slowly away. Off 153 days and not ruled out for another new stable here. Best form at 6f but could improve for being gelded and a new yard; market useful. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (5/1 +29%) Lattaash |
5/1(+29%) | (3) Lattaash 5/1, Lightly-raced winner. Winner at Southwell in August. Tenth of 13 in handicap at Southwell (7.1f, 9/4) 23 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Merits consideration if shrugging off latest effort. All good before a disappointing handicap debut; now tries cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (7/2 +0%) Rogue Encore |
7/2(+0%) | (2) Rogue Encore 7/2, 11/4, career best when winning 10-runner handicap at this course (8f) 12 days ago. Not taken lightly in his hat-trick bid despite a 4 lb rise. Unbeaten in cheekpieces having narrowly won 1m handicaps here this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (10/1 +29%) Judgment Call |
10/1(+29%) | (4) Judgment Call 10/1, Thirteen runs since last win in 2023. 14/1, good second of 9 in handicap at this C&D 22 days ago. Unreliable individual, though. Exposed 6yo who refused to race two runs back but he went close here 22 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (11) (11/1 -38%) Mahato |
11/1(-38%) | (11) Mahato 11/1, Debut Windsor scorer last October. Only raced 3 times since but he posted a good fifth of 10 in handicap at Leicester (7f, heavy) 39 days ago. Considered. Now gelded after four runs and interesting that he remains in his top yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (8/1 +11%) Enola Grey |
8/1(+11%) | (9) Enola Grey 8/1, Course winner. Creditable second of 12 in handicap at this C&D (15/2) 7 days ago, finishing well. In the picture once more. Back on a good mark and turn looks near after near misses at Southwell and here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (33/1 +0%) Orbaan |
33/1(+0%) | (1) Orbaan 33/1, Arrives below par, only fourth of 5 in handicap at this course (8f, 20/1) 18 days ago. Something to find on form. Rarely seen on the AW and only fourth in a five-runner race here recently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) (12/1 +40%) Mudamer |
12/1(+40%) | (12) Mudamer 12/1, 6/1, good sixth of 12 in handicap at this C&D 7 days ago. Not taken lightly off a 2 lb lower mark. Has finished behind Rogue Encore and Enola Grey in recent visits here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (4/1 -20%) Golden Strike |
4/1(-20%) | (10) Golden Strike 4/1, Improving son of Calyx who made it 2-3 in 8-runner novice at Ripon (6f, good to firm) in June. More to offer now going into handicaps and a likely player after a break. 2-3; likely improver now handicapping, especially having been granted some time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) (50/1 +0%) One More Dream |
50/1(+0%) | (8) One More Dream 50/1, 4-time course winner. Twelfth of 13 in handicap (50/1) at Southwell (6.1f) 11 days ago. Still needs considering. Multiple AW winner but didn't run too well after a break at Southwell only 11 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (5) (100/1 -52%) Neapolitan |
100/1(-52%) | (5) Neapolitan 100/1, 150/1, first run since leaving Simon & Ed Crisford when last of 11 in handicap at Southwell (7.1f) 49 days ago. A winner for the Crisfords; quiet stable debut at Southwell (7f) when 150-1. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
7f specialist Zip impressed when making all over this trip at Doncaster recently and another bold bid is anticipated upped 3lb. That said, his stable companion GOLDEN STRIKE edges preference. He was doing his best work late on when scoring cosily over 6f in a minor event at Ripon when last seen and, with the promise of more to come upped in trip for his handicap debut, he looks the one to side with. Rogue Encore is seeking a hat-trick and also merits respect.
Richard Fahey looks to hold a strong hand here and his GOLDEN STRIKE is fancied to take another step forward on his handicap bow and complete a hat-tirck at the chief expense of in-form stablemate Zip. Enola Grey, Mahato, Rogue Encore and Lattaash all need factoring into this competitive handicap too.
The market needs checking with some likely improvers from top yards lurking. The now-gelded MAHATO edges preference.

2nd (5) (11/4 +50%) Book Of Life |
11/4(+50%) | (5) Book Of Life 11/4, Thirteen runs since last win in 2022. 13/2, creditable third of 12 in handicap at Lingfield (8f, AW) 10 days ago. Merits consideration from career-low mark. Record of 1-18 but was placed behind a subsequent winner last time and he's in the mix. |

3rd (10) (12/1 +0%) Retraction |
12/1(+0%) | (10) Retraction 12/1, Creditable third of 10 in handicap (16/1) at Southwell (8.1f) 16 days ago, unable to sustain effort having raced off the pace. 0-11 but was a creditable third at Southwell latest and has claims if he can back that up. |

4th (1) (20/1 -208%) Monsieur Patat |
20/1(-208%) | (1) Monsieur Patat 20/1, Course winner. 3 wins from 9 runs this year. 14/1, respectable fifth of 10 in handicap at this course (6.1f) 19 days ago, nearest finish. Upped markedly in trip on the back of that. Caught the eye of the stewards here last time but this step back up to 8.6f is a concern. |

5th (8) (28/1 -300%) Nights Over Egypt |
28/1(-300%) | (8) Nights Over Egypt 28/1, Course winner. 3 wins from 14 runs this year. 6/1, didn't need to be at best when winning 6-runner claimer at Leicester (7f, heavy) 26 days ago, though surely a fortunate winner given how that race unfolded. Won two of his last three starts but was only second best on merit in a claimer last time. |

6th (9) (13/8 +41%) Drifts Away |
13/8(+41%) | (9) Drifts Away 13/8, Two wins from 6 runs this year. Latest win at Southwell in November. Good second of 12 in handicap at Lingfield (8f, AW, 6/4) 10 days ago, going off too hard. Remains of serious interest. Progressive 3yo who was a good second in hat-trick bid at Lingfield latest; key player. |

7th (7) (12/1 -41%) Unreal Connection |
12/1(-41%) | (7) Unreal Connection 12/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2023. Respectable third of 10 in handicap at this course (7.2f, 11/2) 8 days ago. Back up in trip, which will suit and can give a good account having not been with this yard long. Eyecatching third over 7f here last time and has claims if she can build on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (16/1 -14%) Billy Mcgarry |
16/1(-14%) | (11) Billy Mcgarry 16/1, C&D winner. 3 wins from 10 runs this year. Latest win here in May. 8/1, bit below form sixth of 11 in handicap at this C&D 30 days ago. Should strip fitter with that under his belt. Two Tapeta wins in the spring but was laboured over C&D on his return last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (66/1 -65%) Always Fearless |
66/1(-65%) | (6) Always Fearless 66/1, C&D winner. Latest win at Windsor in July. 100/1, last of 12 in handicap at Nottingham (8.3f, heavy) 17 days ago. Hard to warm to at present. Won at Windsor in July but he's been back in the doldrums since; opposable. |

10th (4) (50/1 -150%) Legend Of Leros |
50/1(-150%) | (4) Legend Of Leros 50/1, Fifteen runs since last win in 2022. 50/1, tenth of 11 in handicap at this course (6.1f) 7 days ago. Significantly back up in trip. Record of 0070550 for current yard and has plenty to prove back up in trip from wide draw. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (2) (12/1 +40%) Mr Fustic |
12/1(+40%) | (2) Mr Fustic 12/1, C&D winner. Creditable fifth of 12 in handicap (16/1) at Brighton (8f, good to soft), unable to sustain effort. Off 179 days and he lurks on a dangerous mark if fully tuned up for this. Four-time AW winner; on dangerous mark but he needs to raise his game after a break. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
LOVE YOUR WORK landed a double on the turf during the summer and was beaten only a nose at Southwell last time. Darryll Holland's inmate can stamp his authority on this contest and resume winning ways at the chief expense of Drifts Away. The latter missed out on a hat-trick when runner-up at Lingfield but still makes more appeal than Nights Over Egypt, who took full advantage of his chief rival easing up too soon when landing a claimer at Leicester last month.
DRIFTS AWAY was perhaps ridden a shade too aggressively when picked off at Lingfield but it was still an excellent attempt at the hat-trick and with the winner that day going in again since, there's substance to that run. He can regain the winning thread at the chief expense of Book of Life and Love Your Work.
Top of the list is the progressive 3yo DRIFTS AWAY (nap), who was a creditable second in his hat-trick bid at Lingfield ten days ago.

Makes all-weather debut. Has failed by a long chalk to repeat the form of his York nursery win; something to prove. |

8/13(+100%) | (1) So Darn Hot 8/13, Progressed again when winning 9-runner maiden (13/8) at Doncaster (6f, heavy) a fortnight ago, leading 2f out. Makes handicap debut and has to be taken seriously with further improvement on the cards. Progressive gelding; off the mark in Doncaster maiden two weeks ago; leading contender. |

15/2(+17%) | (7) Laurens Dream 15/2, Better than ever since switched to all-weather, defying weakness in the betting for the second time in 5 days to double her tally at this course (6f) last week, again having little to spare at the line. Up another 4 lb but she's progressive so would be folly to rule out in her hat-trick bid. Thriving now, winning over 7f and 6f; further drop in trip should be fine; major player. |

Makes all-weather debut and needs to get back on track now handicapping. Hamilton maiden winner; well held at Listed level twice since; needs to get back on track. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
CRESSIDA WILDES made a pleasing start for this stable when finishing third behind a potentially useful sort over 6f at Southwell earlier this month. With this drop back to the minimum trip promising to suit, she gets the vote to land the spoils on her nursery debut. So Darn Hot did it well when scoring over 6f at Doncaster and the son of Too Darn Hot merits respect. Commander Atkinson completes the shortlist.
SO DARN HOT opened his account at Doncaster a fortnight ago and with further improvement on the cards now switched to handicaps, Kevin Philippart de Foy's charge is fancied to follow up at the expense of Commander Atkinson, who has been beaten less than a length on his last couple of starts and should be bang there again nudged up 1 lb. The hat-trick-seeking Laurens Dream completes the shortlist up in grade.
So Darn Hot and Laurens Dream are feared but the verdict goes to COMMANDER ATKINSON (nap) who also arrives in top form.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
POETIC FORCE found only one too good at Brighton on his latest start and the winner has subsequently gone in again. A prolific winner on the all-weather, Tony Carroll's veteran may prove the one to side with back on this surface. Havana Touch has been threatening a return to winning ways and has solid claims returning to this longer distance, while Prince Ali returned a cosy winner here in September and is not easily dismissed.
SNOOZE LANE is running consistently well at the moment and looks ready to strike. Last-time-out winners King of Speed and Prince Ali are obvious threats, as is in-form 3-y-o Havana Touch.
An open race in which the vote goes to four-time course winner SNOOZE LANE, who has finished runner-up here in his last two starts.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Grey Salvo was unable to build on a promising debut performance having been caught wider than ideal at Southwell last time, but that will not be the case over this straight 6f and she sits high on the shortlist. However, preference is for the Richard Fahey-trained SUNDIATA KEITA. Too green to do himself justice on his racecourse bow at Wolverhampton recently, the Sands Of Mali colt will have learned plenty for that experience and is taken to step forward. Cemlyn is a half-sister to a couple of useful types and she warrants a market check ahead of her first start.
CEMLYN makes plenty of appeal on paper in the context of this race and is fancied to get her career off to the perfect start. Sundiata Keita seems sure to step up on his debut effort and is second choice ahead of Packetofbiscuits, who should be more at home back at 6f.
Although only fifth when favourite on his debut at Wolverhampton, SUNDIATA KEITA is taken to improve sufficiently to get off the mark.

Probably one for later on. Trailed home last of six at Kempton for an inauspicious debut. |

10th (4) (125/1 -400%) Lindas Lady |
125/1(-400%) | (4) Lindas Lady 125/1, Linda's Lad filly. Dam, 2-y-o 6f winner who stayed 1¼m, also won over hurdles. Linda's Lad filly who is making belated debut; best watched. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Placed on her last three outings, DARK LYRIC returns to this extra furlong with a leading chance. Sean Woods' filly ran well in defeat at Southwell last time and this looks a good opportunity to open her account. Inversion finished third over a mile at Newcastle on her penultimate start and merits consideration on that form, while the more exposed Rawaasi has a bit to find on today's terms as she steps up in distance.
No depth to this novice with INVERSION given the nod to come out on top returned to this shorter trip under Billy Loughnane. Dark Lyric is proving consistent and along with Rawaasi heads the dangers. Lancashire is a newcomer to note.
Consistent Dark Lyric has solid claims but nicely bred INVERSION is marginally preferred.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Amelia's Joy showed more than enough over C&D last month to suggest she will be up to winning races, but the vote goes to THUNDER EARTHLIGHT. Karl Burke often does well with his juveniles and the 65,000-euro purchase, a half-brother to five winners, would not have to be anything out of the ordinary to make a winning debut. Tattie Bogle is also noted.
Bryan Smart's daughter of Expert Eye AMELIA'S JOY possesses much the best form on show so looks the way to go. Karl Burke's debutant Thunder Earthlight could emerge as the chief threat, especially if the betting speaks in his favour, with Tattie Bogle appealing as the pick of the rest for minor honours.
Newcomer Thunder Earthlight makes some appeal on pedigree, but as things stand the one to beat is AMELIA'S JOY.

3rd (2) (10/3 +26%) Eighteencaratgold |
10/3(+26%) | (2) Eighteencaratgold 10/3, Lightly-raced maiden. Gelded and cheekpieces on for first time, ninth of 10 in nursery at Chelmsford City (6f, 8/1) 14 days ago. Makes tapeta debut and expected to step up on that return from a break. Seemingly finds 6f further than ideal but well worth another go at 5f. |

4th (1) (28/1 -40%) Woodhay Whisper |
28/1(-40%) | (1) Woodhay Whisper 28/1, 25/1, first run since leaving Tom Ward when fifth of 6 in nursery at Nottingham (5f, soft) 17 days ago. Opposable despite falling mark. Promising debut but hasn't gone on; again well held in latest handicap for new yard. |

5th (9) (15/2 -125%) Cuban Lynx |
15/2(-125%) | (9) Cuban Lynx 15/2, 10/3, first run since leaving Craig Lidster when eighth of 10 in nursery at Chelmsford City (8f) 9 days ago. 7th (8) (12/1 -71%) Master Zack |
12/1(-71%) | (8) Master Zack 12/1, Fourth of 7 in nursery (15/2) at Chelmsford City (5f) 14 days ago. Makes tapeta debut and others more persuasive. Had excuses for two of his handicap runs but nowhere to go from handicapping viewpoint. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
MASTER ZACK may have finished a neck behind the reopposing Bank On Kent (third) at Chelmsford last time out, but he is 4lb better off now and that represented arguably a career-best effort from the son of Ardad. He can get off the mark on this occasion, with Cuban Lynx looking best placed to chase him home on just his second start for the Mick Appleby team.
This looks trappy so a chance is taken on CUBAN LYNX down markedly in trip on just his second start for his successful yard. Eighteencaratgold is feared, while Frankies Dream could do better now handicapping having been gelded.
Causin A Commotion is considered back over C&D but EIGHTEENCARATGOLD is speedy enough to be well worth another go at 5f.

40/1(-21%) | (1) Arie Gordye 40/1, Twice-raced maiden. Fourth of 11 in maiden (250/1) at Southwell (8.1f) 19 days ago. Needs to up her game. Improved on debut run when 4th in 1m Southwell maiden last month; looks one for handicaps. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A beaten favourite on her racecourse debut last month, QARLYGA is certain to have benefitted from that initial experience and the Golden Horde filly can step forward. Bosphorus Rose has produced a similar level of form on both of her starts, though, and is sure to make her presence felt, while others to note include Boyne Lady and newcomer Far Across.
QARLYGA didn't come up to market expectations on debut but she had plenty to learn and is worth a chance to show marked improvement and land this novice. Bosphorus Rose and Boyne Lady look the main dangers.
This can go to BOSPHORUS ROSE, who has shaped well in two similar races and has the benefit of a high draw.

First run for yard after leaving Brian Toomey. Enters calculations. Placed at Chelmsford on final start for Brian Toomey; enters calculations off same mark. |

8th (5) (40/1 -100%) Bruce Banner |
40/1(-100%) | (5) Bruce Banner 40/1, Poor form. 250/1, ninth of 13 in maiden at Newbury (6.5f, heavy) 29 days ago, merely passing beaten rivals. Makes tapeta debut. Makes handicap debut. Always behind in four outings; far from solid. |

11th (7) (25/1 -56%) Limegreentangerine |
25/1(-56%) | (7) Limegreentangerine 25/1, Poor form. 9/1, twelfth of 13 in nursery at Chelmsford (6f) 23 days ago. Makes tapeta debut. Cheekpieces need to spark improvement. Speedily bred and isn't sure to improve for this extra furlong. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Narrowly denied on his nursery debut at Newcastle last time out, where the winner has gone in again since, CLEVER JACK is likely to have plenty of improvement forthcoming and Billy Loughnane retaining the ride is another plus. A comfortable winner over this distance at Southwell on his penultimate outing, Flaine can give him the most to think about for in-form connections. Aim For The Bull and Tiempo Alegre are entitled to be thereabouts as well.
FLAINE has a handy draw in 2 and that just tips things in her favour ahead of Clever Jack, who has been allotted the outside stall. Aim For The Bull may prove best of the remainder on his first outing for Mike Murphy.
The most appealing contenders are FLAINE (narrowly preferred) and Clever Jack, who both hold solid claims on form.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A no-show over 7f here aside, BUTTERCROSS FLYER has acquitted herself quite well since joining Scott Dixon and came within half a length of doubling her career win tally at Wolverhampton last week. She is back up 2lb, but this race doesn't look all that competitive so it may not stop her from going one better. Penny Ghent also arrives on the back of a second, although her ability to handle an artificial surface must be taken on trust. Mambha is a contender if judged on her surprise track-and-trip success rather than her subsequent defeat here.
BUTTERCROSS FLYER was clear of the remainder when second at Wolverhampton just over a week ago and a performance of similar merit could be enough to go one better at the possible expense of Penny Ghent, who filled the same spot at Redcar on her latest outing. Stella Hogan is considered on her second outing for Mick Appleby.
C&D winner MAMBHA is capable of winning again if the headgear switch is helpful. Volcanology is next best.

16/1(-14%) | (6) Nazron 16/1, Latest win at Windsor in August. Respectable sixth of 13 in handicap at Southwell (5f, 5/2) 86 days ago. Significantly up in trip. First run for yard after leaving Roger Varian. 5f performer for Roger Varian; doubtful stayer over this new trip. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
A taking winner over C&D on his most recent outing, YORKSHIRE has already had a decent year and a 6lb rise may not be enough to prevent Ed Bethell's charge from going in again. A winner here back in March over 6f and a recent scorer at Southwell, Run Boy Run must enter calculations on the rise in grade, while Alzahir is another to note, having done very well since joining new connections. Brewing has yet to rediscover his best form, but he is five from eight on the all-weather, which bodes well.
YORKSHIRE leaves the impression he may not have reached his limit and can make light of a 6 lb rise for last month's C&D success. Johnny Murtagh's Final Voyage ran a cracker in a really warm race at Kempton on Wednesday and is next on the list ahead of impressive Southwell winner Run Boy Run.
With further progress plausible, YORKSHIRE is taken to follow up his C&D win. Run Boy Run, a similar type, is feared most.

20/1(-208%) | (4) Brazilian Rose 20/1, Debut 7f winner. Shaped well when third of 7 in handicap (7/4) at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 57 days ago on her final run for Richard Hughes. 18/1(+45%) | (10) Jamie Bond 18/1, Last of 9 in handicap at Musselburgh (5f, good to soft, 22/1) 17 days ago. Makes tapeta debut. Something to find on form. Lightly raced 4yo, more miss than hit since sole win in April 2023; AW debut. |

12th (8) (11/1 -69%) Lady Nunthorpe |
11/1(-69%) | (8) Lady Nunthorpe 11/1, Career best when winning 9-runner handicap (6/1) at Southwell (5f) 37 days ago. Up 4 lb but can't be discounted. Off the mark at Southwell last month; high on the list again off a 4lb higher mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
LADY NUNTHORPE has gradually worked her way into form this year and confirmed the promise of a C&D third when breaking through at Southwell. The placegetters have done little for the form since but the fourth has come out and won, and there is more to come from Geoff Oldroyd's filly. Em Jay Kay regained the winning thread at Wolverhampton last week, but drops back to the minimum trip for the first time in a while. Recent 6f course winner Fletchers Dream and the unexposed Brazilian Rose have never tried 5f before, but both enter the equation. Darlo Pride has to be considered too.
BRAZILIAN ROSE looks to have more to offer starting out for Rebecca Menzies and can get off to a flying start here. Fletchers Dream is feared most on the back of his recent course victory, although Nelson Gay is weighted to go well too and in-form pair Em Jay Kay and Too Much also ought to be thereabouts.
Preference is for the well-handicapped NELSON GAY who might have needed his last run. The 3yo Lady Nunthorpe is feared most.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (2) (8/1 -33%) Diomed Spirit |
8/1(-33%) | (2) Diomed Spirit 8/1, C&D winner. Five wins from 17 Flat runs. Eighth of 9 in handicap (14/1) at Yarmouth (5.2f, good to firm) 67 days ago. Four 5f wins on AW last winter, two over C&D, and just 3lb higher than latest; claims. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
LEVEL UP bounced back to form when second over C&D earlier in the month and the five-year-old is hard to oppose off the same mark here. Catch Cunningham has not been disgraced on either start since winning at this venue in September and is likely to be in the mix once again, while any market support for Commander Straker on his return would have to be noted.
ZIGGY'S MISSILE may still have more to offer on AW so could be worth chancing back from a break and down in grade. Catch Cunningham and Level Up head the dangers.
This is sure to be run at a searching pace and preference is for ZIGGY'S MISSILE whose AW career may not have reached its peak yet.

9th (1) (13/2 +19%) Novak |
13/2(+19%) | (1) Novak 13/2, C&D winner. Career best when winning 10-runner handicap at Southwell (7.1f, 7/4) 11 days ago. In a rich vein of form and boasts strong claims again. In a consistent run of form and did it decisively at Southwell to earn the 7lb rise. |

10th (4) (33/1 -32%) The Ganges |
33/1(-32%) | (4) The Ganges 33/1, Thrice-raced maiden. First run since leaving Simon Hodgson when fourth of 8 in maiden (20/1) at this C&D 36 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Something to prove. Latest run was after a long absence; not easily judged now into a handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (11) (25/1 -150%) Likeashadow |
25/1(-150%) | (11) Likeashadow 25/1, C&D winner. Fourteen runs since last win in 2023. 22/1, creditable third of 8 in handicap at this course (8f) 7 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Not discounted. Only ever seems to run here and hit the frame last week, albeit no match for the winner. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BARNABY has burst into life since switching to the all-weather and completed a C&D hat-trick with a determined display to pip King's School. He is up another 6lb but is probably worth sticking with until beaten, even though he comes up against some in-form opponents. Novak has won two of his last three, although the defeat came at the hands of Crown's Lady at Southwell and he is worse off at the weights.
CROWN'S LADY is on the up and showed a good attitude to see off Novak last time, so she's fancied to see off that rival again. King's School also makes plenty of appeal in what could be a strong race for the grade.
Open with no standout candidate. CROWN'S LADY is an upwardly mobile 3yo filly who can be given another chance at Newcastle.

1st (1) (7/1 +7%) Parramount |
7/1(+7%) | (1) Parramount 7/1, Bumper/hurdles winner who has made the frame on 4 occasions on Flat since June. Not seen to best effect in class 2 handicap at Kempton (11f) 3 weeks ago and this is much easier. 0-9 on the Flat but has threatened this year and latest defeat came in a far better race. |

2nd (5) (14/1 -56%) Optician |
14/1(-56%) | (5) Optician 14/1, 4-time course winner. 3 wins from 11 runs this year. Sixth of 8 in handicap at this course (12.2f, 15/2) 19 days ago, not quicken. Mark is steadily easing but he doesn't appear to be operating at the top of his game at present. Handicapper looked in charge since winning four on the bounce here last winter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (11) (12/1 0%) Eagle's Realm |
12/1(0%) | (11) Eagle's Realm 12/1, C&D winner. Fifth of 8 in handicap at this course (12.2f, 5/1) 7 days ago, needing the emphasis more on stamina. This test more up his street and he's an each-way player for all he remains 3 lb above his last winning mark. Four Tapeta wins; ran okay over 1m4f here last week given he wants further. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (11/1 +31%) D Day Arvalenreeva |
11/1(+31%) | (9) D Day Arvalenreeva 11/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2023. 5/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, seventh of 8 in handicap at Southwell (11.1f) 23 days ago, forced to switch final 1f and not quicken. Up in trip. Runner-up three times at about 1m4f before backwards steps the last twice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (16/1 +20%) Haliphon |
16/1(+20%) | (6) Haliphon 16/1, Latest win at Haydock (11.6f) in September. 20/1, sixth of 9 in handicap at Southwell (12.1f) 46 days ago, no extra last ½f. Comes here operating 3 lb above last winning mark and others appeal more for win purposes. Beaten under 3l at Southwell latest (1m4f) despite finding some trouble. |

6th (10) (12/1 -118%) Sun Dancer Girl |
12/1(-118%) | (10) Sun Dancer Girl 12/1, Improving filly who scored 3 times earlier this year and showed benefit of a recent run when winning 6-runner handicap (11/2) at Lingfield (12f, AW) 10 days ago, readily. Has to be taken seriously stepping back up in trip. Strike-rate of 4-12 and benefited from return to patient tactics when winning at Lingfield. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (2/1 +56%) Percy Jones |
2/1(+56%) | (7) Percy Jones 2/1, C&D winner who opened his account for the year in 7-runner handicap at this course (16.6f) 29 days ago. Merits consideration nudged up 3 lb. Has only ever won here, the latest in gritty fashion over 2m a month ago (3lb lower). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (9/2 +44%) Outgun |
9/2(+44%) | (2) Outgun 9/2, Career-best effort when finally off the mark at Kempton (12f) in September but well held when twelfth of 13 in handicap back at that track/trip 6 weeks ago. Type to bounce back upped in trip. 1m4f winner; poor last time but gives his running more often than not. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (9/2 +44%) Sax Appeal |
9/2(+44%) | (3) Sax Appeal 9/2, Course winner. 4/1, creditable third of 7 in handicap at Chelmsford City (13.3f) 14 days ago, no extra final 100 yds. Not one to write off back at this slightly longer trip. Course winner; solid third last time and Archie Young returns with his 5lb claim. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (33/1 -106%) Banderas |
33/1(-106%) | (4) Banderas 33/1, Chester maiden winner (12.3f) at 3 yrs and plenty of solid efforts upon returning in the spring. However, ended time with Michael Bell on the back of a couple of low-key efforts and yard switch needs to have perked him up. Won a 1m4f Chester maiden in 2023 but 0-8 in handicaps and left Michael Bell for 15,000gns. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Two Auld Pals has to be of interest following his narrow second over 2m here 12 days ago, but marginal preference is for PERCY JONES. Mark Loughnane's gelding return to winning ways at this venue a month ago and a 3lb rise for that success may underestimate him. Others who make the shortlist are Sun Dancer Girl, Eagle's Realm and D Day Arvalenreeva.
SUN DANCER GIRL showed the benefit of a recent run when resuming progress to score at Lingfield 10 days ago. Still unexposed at this sort of trip, she makes plenty of appeal again with further improvement not out of the question. Parramount hasn't had things go his way of late and a better showing can be anticipated. Recent course winner Percy Jones and Two Auld Pals are others to consider.
Winning hurdler PARRAMOUNT is a bit unfortunate not to have won on the Flat and this is more realistic than last time.

1st (9) (4/1 +27%) King's Code |
4/1(+27%) | (9) King's Code 4/1, C&D winner. 16/5, creditable length third of 12 to Koy Koy over C&D 7 days ago, nearest finish. Visor back on. Shortlist material. Third to Koy Koy over C&D last week (sent off favourite); too well treated to ignore. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (4/1 +20%) Koy Koy |
4/1(+20%) | (1) Koy Koy 4/1, 12/1, improved on recent efforts when dead heating in 12-runner C&D handicap last Saturday. Only nudged up 2 lb and retains handicapping scope on old form. Ended losing run over C&D last week (awarded race after dead-heating); 2lb rise manageable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (6/1 +33%) Glen Buck |
6/1(+33%) | (7) Glen Buck 6/1, 2-2 in AW novices at the start of 2023, latterly C&D. Very long absence to overcome but it's interesting that a leading stable has stuck with him. Betting interesting. 2-2 in early 2023; absent since but unexposed and needs a market check. |

4th (4) (10/1 -11%) Parlando |
10/1(-11%) | (4) Parlando 10/1, In the form of his life in the Racing League in August, winning at Windsor (good to firm) before second on AW at Newcastle (both 1¼m). Respectable sixth of 10 at Doncaster St Leger meeting in September. Freshened up since. Not at his best at Doncaster last time; two runs in August bring him right into it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (11) (33/1 -32%) Yokohama |
33/1(-32%) | (11) Yokohama 33/1, 33/1, 13¼ lengths seventh of 11 to Nap Hand in handicap at Newbury (1¼m, heavy) 28 days ago. Others are preferred. Seems happier on Tapeta but might need more help from the handicapper. |

6th (6) (16/1 -78%) Have Secret |
16/1(-78%) | (6) Have Secret 16/1, Fifteen runs since last win in 2022. Creditable second of 8 in handicap (15/8) at Redcar (1¼m, soft) 18 days ago. Visor back on. Thereabouts but that losing run is mounting up. On a losing run but he ran well at Redcar last time and goes off the same mark today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (9/4 +36%) Westridge |
9/4(+36%) | (5) Westridge 9/4, Improved another chunk when shedding maiden tag in a Windsor novice (1m) in June, edging out smart stablemate Roi de France. Better than result on Glorious Goodwood handicap debut at the start of August. Ran in a void race at Chelmsford a fortnight ago (went off 7/2). Unexposed 3-y-o from top yard. Unexposed 3yo; Windsor win (1m) in June; one to take seriously. |

8th (10) (150/1 -275%) The African Queen |
150/1(-275%) | (10) The African Queen 150/1, Course winner. Successful on Brighton reappearance in April but well held both starts since. Has something to prove for now. Won 3 of her first 5 but well beaten the last twice; others look to have stronger claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (11/1 -83%) Nap Hand |
11/1(-83%) | (3) Nap Hand 11/1, 9/2, career best when winning 11-runner handicap at Newbury (1¼m, heavy) 28 days ago. Makes tapeta debut. Going the right way. All three wins on turf but effective on AW; up 6lb for latest win and drawn widest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (28/1 -40%) Lady Of Arabia |
28/1(-40%) | (8) Lady Of Arabia 28/1, Back-to-back winner over 8.7f here this autumn but a further 4 lb rise found her out at Southwell last time. Two course wins (8.6f) this autumn; only midfield in hat-trick bid latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (13) (14/1 +13%) Gallant Lion |
14/1(+13%) | (13) Gallant Lion 14/1, Respectable third of 8 in handicap (4/1) at Epsom (1½m, soft) 55 days ago. Back down in trip. First run for yard after leaving Alan King. Looks competitive on form. Starts out for new yard off a reduced mark; yet to shine on AW but should handle it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (12) (33/1 -32%) Eagle Day |
33/1(-32%) | (12) Eagle Day 33/1, Course winner. Below-form seventh of 13 in handicap (12/1) at Chelmsford (1m) 42 days ago. Runs this track well but his stamina for this trip is not yet assured; stable run two. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (2) (125/1 -150%) Mond |
125/1(-150%) | (2) Mond 125/1, Useful for Andre Fabre in France back in 2020 and 2021 but has a whopping 1175 days absence to overcome on this first outing for Charlie Wallis. Can only be watched. Smart form when last seen but that was 1,175 days ago; best watched on stable debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
In a wide-open event the vote goes to HAVE SECRET, who has run well in some valuable handicaps on turf this year and that includes a second off this mark at Redcar last time. Koy Koy won over C&D a week ago and cannot be discounted off just 2lb higher, although this is more demanding. The unexposed pair Westridge and Glen Buck are others with strong from claims, while Lady Of Arabia is next best.
KING'S CODE shaped as if he's ready to take advantage of his reduced mark when third to the reopposing Koy Koy over C&D last weekend and is given a chance to build on that promise. George Boughey's charge should give another good account of himself but it could be that the chief threat comes from unexposed Gosden stable 3-y-o Westridge.
Westridge is open to further progress but this may be the day the cards fall right for the well-handicapped KING'S CODE.
Ths is the racecard key.
