1st (8) (3/1 +54%) Hiero Sport |
3/1(+54%) | (8) Hiero Sport 3/1, Runner-up in a bumper but has yet to better modest form over hurdles, including on Southwell handicap debut when last seen in May. Unexposed after only four hurdle starts and shaped quite well on handicap debut in May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (9/1 -38%) Mersey Street |
9/1(-38%) | (6) Mersey Street 9/1, Is falling in the weights and ran one of his best races when fourth of 9 over 2½m at Uttoxeter when last seen in July. 0-7 over hurdles but travelled well for a long way when fourth at Uttoxeter in July. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (12/1 +0%) Galway Reel |
12/1(+0%) | (3) Galway Reel 12/1, Has not inherited the family's lofty level of ability judged on early evidence, finishing no better than sixth in his first 3 handicaps. First-time cheekpieces need to spark improvement. Well beaten over 3m this month; now drops back in trip with cheekpieces added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (22/1 -175%) Montys Soldier |
22/1(-175%) | (1) Montys Soldier 22/1, Well held in 3 maiden/novice hurdles earlier in the year but it wouldn't be a shock were this 6-y-o to prove a different proposition in handicaps. One to note in the betting. Impressed on Irish point debut in 2023; makes handicap debut with considerable potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (10/3 +83%) Cave Article |
10/3(+83%) | (9) Cave Article 10/3, Runner-up completed start in points so, while he's yet to show anything over hurdles, he's worth monitoring in the betting upped in trip for handicap debut after 7 months off. Came second in a point a year ago and has a lowly mark for this handicap debut; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (13/2 -30%) Footloose Man |
13/2(-30%) | (5) Footloose Man 13/2, Left previous hurdling efforts behind when opening his account in a 9-runner conditional jockeys' at Fontwell in August. In the frame on all 3 outings since. In the frame three times since 6l Fontwell win in August; ought to be in the mix again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (22/1 -144%) Go Fox |
22/1(-144%) | (10) Go Fox 22/1, Won twice over fences in summer 2023. Hasn't reproduced that level since but he was second in a 2m course hurdle off 12 lb higher last winter and has to enter the reckoning off this career-low mark back from a 108-day break. Course winner over fences; out of form when last seen in summer; now back over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (33/1 +0%) Tip Top Tonto |
33/1(+0%) | (7) Tip Top Tonto 33/1, A fair C&D hurdle winner at his best but he offered little in 2 runs for the Flint stable for the summer and fared no better on his recent first outing for Alison Thorpe. C&D winner in April but badly out of form for two different stables since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (2) (10/3 -33%) Laser Focus |
10/3(-33%) | (2) Laser Focus 10/3, Yet to score over hurdles but has shaped with encouragement on both starts in this sphere for his current yard and has continued the good work on the Flat since, so looks a big player. Good fourth of 15 at Newton Abbot in August and has won on the Flat since; major player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (66/1 -450%) Seahouses |
66/1(-450%) | (4) Seahouses 66/1, No impact in 3 hurdles last winter. His fair level of ability on the Flat provides some hope on his handicap hurdle debut but he is temperamental. Did not show much in juvenile hurdles last season; off since modest Flat run in March. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Not the strongest of contests and it might pay to side with TIP TOP TONTO. The son of Milan lost his way after bolting up over C&D in April, but he's now 1lb below that mark and will appreciate a return to this intermediate trip. The unexposed Hiero Sport showed some promise on his handicap bow in May. He could have a say following a 161-day absence, along with Footloose Man, who finished a creditable third at Fontwell last Wednesday.
LASER FOCUS has gone in again on the Flat since last seen over hurdles and it's surely only a matter of time before James Owen gets a win out of him in this sphere. Go Fox should be up to doing something off such a low mark and is next on the list. Christian Williams handicap newcomers Montys Soldier and Cave Article need keeping a close eye on in the betting.
The suggestion is FOOTLOOSE MAN, who has remained in good form since his breakthrough win in August.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (8/11 +64%) El Matador |
8/11(+64%) | (2) El Matador 8/11, Foaled May 25. 140,000 gns yearling, Lope De Vega colt. Half-brother to several winners, including smart/ungenuine winner up to 7f Snazzy Jazzy, useful 5.5f-7f winner Ross Castle. Dam unraced. Yard going extremely well with its 2-y-os. 140,000gns yearling; by Lope De Vega; late foal but one to note from powerful yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (9/2 +25%) Love Beach |
9/2(+25%) | (4) Love Beach 9/2, New Bay colt who offered something to work on when fourth of 8 in a C&D novice (heavy) on debut 21 days ago, nearest finish. Open to improvement. 20-1, kept on from towards rear when about 11l fourth of eight in C&D novice (heavy). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (7/2 -192%) Opportunity |
7/2(-192%) | (5) Opportunity 7/2, Foaled April 14. 475,000 gns yearling, Frankel colt. Brother to useful 1m-1½m winner Zagato and half-brother to several winners, including winner up to 7f Dreamfield. Dam 9f-10.5f winner. Lots to like on paper. 475,000gns yearling by Frankel; lots to like in the pedigree and he's from a top yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (66/1 -100%) Ridgemaster |
66/1(-100%) | (6) Ridgemaster 66/1, Offered little when fifth of 7 in novice at Ayr (8f, good) on debut 20 days ago, merely passing beaten rivals. 25-1, slowly away and always behind in Ayr novice (1m, good) three weeks ago, beaten 20l. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (18/1 -50%) Zolder |
18/1(-50%) | (9) Zolder 18/1, Foaled February 20. New Bay gelding. Dam, 5.7f/6f winner, closely related to useful winner up to 7f Maxi Boy. By New Bay; first foal; dam 5.7f/6f winner (RPR 86); Love Beach may be stable first string. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (33/1 -32%) Blue Tempus |
33/1(-32%) | (1) Blue Tempus 33/1, Looks one for handicaps after this run. 33-1 and 25-1, modest form in 1m novices at Haydock (good to soft) and Salisbury (heavy). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (300/1 -355%) Roman Bar |
300/1(-355%) | (7) Roman Bar 300/1, Foaled May 4. Massaat gelding. Dam 2-y-o 6f winner. By Massaat; late foal; gelded; on debut, others are much more likely. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (150/1 -355%) Wish Out Loud |
150/1(-355%) | (8) Wish Out Loud 150/1, Foaled March 8. €44,000 foal, €55,000 yearling, Saxon Warrior gelding. Half-brother to several winners, including 7f/1m winner True To Herself and 1¼m-1½m winner Absolute Queen. 55,000euros yearling; gelded; yard not known for 2yos. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
There has been no stopping Ralph Beckett of late and El Matador, a half-brother to eight winners, is sure to be a force on his racecourse bow. However, it is the Frankel colt OPPORTUNITY who gets the verdict. The 475,000gns purchase looks the part and his pedigree suggests forecast conditions will be no issue. Love Beach finished fourth over C&D on his debut three weeks ago and is likely to be wiser this time around.
OPPORTUNITY is bred in the purple and gets the nod to make a winning debut before market clues. El Matador is another debutant to note hailing from the thriving Beckett stable, while Love Beach was getting the hangs of things late on his debut over C&D 3 weeks ago and is likely to improve.
This looks ripe for a newcomer and the pick may be EL MATADOR for Ralph Beckett, whose 2yos have been going so strongly.

1st (4) (11/4 +0%) Telepathique |
11/4(+0%) | (4) Telepathique 11/4, Confirmed debut promise when landing a 12-runner Warwick bumper in February. Runner-up on hurdles debut at Newbury before going one better at Southwell when last seen 11 months ago. Respected now chasing with her yard boasting a fine record here. Bumper/novice hurdle winner; plenty to prove on return from a break on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (11/4 +39%) Gazette Bourgeoise |
11/4(+39%) | (3) Gazette Bourgeoise 11/4, Yet to score in 10 starts over fences but probably should have won when beaten only a nose on return from 8 months off at Ffos Las (21.5f) in December. Ran no sort of race when last seen at Hereford in May but on a handy mark if bouncing back. 0-10 over fences; best run last term was after a break; interesting after 176 days off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (5/1 0%) Honey I'm Good |
5/1(0%) | (6) Honey I'm Good 5/1, Resumed winning ways at Stratford in August and backed it up with a good second at Newton Abbot. Not disgraced back over hurdles since and needs considering back in this sphere. Thorough stayer who won a 3m3f chase at Stratford in August; not sure 2m5f here will suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (5/1 +0%) Phone Home |
5/1(+0%) | (5) Phone Home 5/1, Telescope filly who matched previous best over hurdles when runner-up in mares' maiden at Catterick (15.7f) in January. Below that level next 2 starts and the betting can prove a useful guide on handicap chase debut following 7 months off/wind surgery. Goes well fresh; interesting after 224 days off on chase debut having had a wind op. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (3/1 +25%) Jeune Belle |
3/1(+25%) | (1) Jeune Belle 3/1, Useful bumper winner who landed short odds on her 2m Lingfield hurdle debut in December. Pulled up next 2 starts but back on track when third in a Kempton novice (2m) on final start in March. Interesting newcomer to chasing (yard 4-15 with 3 seconds at track last season). Bumper/novice hurdle winner last term; ground suits but stamina to prove; chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (11/1 -10%) Fortunefavorsdbold |
11/1(-10%) | (2) Fortunefavorsdbold 11/1, Fair winning hurdler in Ireland and left previous form for this yard well behind with a brace of handicap chase wins at Huntingdon/Lingfield. Went off the boil after but took step back in the right direction when fourth at Ffos Las on return. On a good mark if building on that. Two wins over fences with headgear last term; no headgear here or last time; track a worry. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Lucy Wadham does well around here and she has two chances with Telepathique and JEUNE BELLE, of which the latter is preferred. Useful in bumpers, the mare lacked consistency over hurdles last season. Notably, perhaps, her two worst performances came on soft ground, so this quicker surface is likely to suit. Her half-sister has achieved a peak rating of 122 over fences too, so it would come as no surprise were a mark of 108 lenient. Honey I'm Good is another to consider.
A difficult race to call but there's no doubt that FORTUNEFAVORSDBOLD and Gazette Bourgeoise are both lurking on dangerous marks, with the former shading the vote.
The vote goes to the experienced chaser GAZETTE BOURGEOISE who goes particularly well fresh. Jeune Belle is also interesting.

1st (3) (10/3 -78%) Asteverdi |
10/3(-78%) | (3) Asteverdi 10/3, Latest win at Sandown in June. 13/2 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, creditable third of 9 in handicap at Goodwood (8f, heavy) 17 days ago. Solid claims. Both wins on good to soft, acts on heavy; recent 3rd at Goodwood (1m) in first cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (11/2 +0%) Temper Trap |
11/2(+0%) | (6) Temper Trap 11/2, Latest win at Redcar in October. Below form fourth of 12 in handicap (5/2) at this C&D (heavy) 6 days ago. Could get back on track quickly. Staged a revival before running out of steam when favourite over C&D (soft) last Thursday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (7/1 +50%) Let's Dream |
7/1(+50%) | (2) Let's Dream 7/1, 20/1, last of 11 in handicap at Ascot (8f, good). Off 173 days. Others have achieved more. Off since May and gelded; return to testing ground means he needs a second look. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (10/3 -11%) Shaladar |
10/3(-11%) | (5) Shaladar 10/3, Twenty one runs since last win in 2022. Seventh of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (8f, 9/2) 15 days ago, not ideally placed. Should be on the premises having dropped 2 lb. No win since 2022 but beaten a neck off this mark at Ascot (1m, soft) three starts back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (3/1 +33%) Dashing Roger |
3/1(+33%) | (1) Dashing Roger 3/1, C&D winner. 28/1, tenth of 11 in minor event at Ascot (8f, good to soft) 26 days ago, slowly away. Came good around this time last year and is on a winning mark. 2 wins on heavy last autumn; five runs (three on soft) this term and ran respectably once. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (9/2 +55%) Double Time |
9/2(+55%) | (4) Double Time 9/2, Quirky sort. Latest win at Goodwood in June. Eighth of 9 in handicap at Goodwood (8f, heavy, 11/1) 17 days ago. Others preferred. Won at Goodwood (1m, good to soft; 4lb lower today) in June but not in the same form since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The form of ASTEVERDI's recent Goodwood third has worked out well and Alice Haynes' three-year-old can go in from an unchanged rating. Shaladar makes significant appeal back on the grass, having failed to ever truly be involved over a mile at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago. Let's Dream has few miles on the clock and he should not be overlooked.
DASHING ROGER hasn't been firing but goes well in these conditions and came good around the same time last year, so he's worth a chance to capitalise on a mark that has slipped. Asteverdi and Shaladar should both give their running, so they're obvious dangers.
Asteverdi should run well but preference is for another 3yo in LET'S DREAM, who should be of renewed interest after his break.

1st (1) (2/9 +44%) Opec |
2/9(+44%) | (1) Opec 2/9, Has left her Flat form behind since switched to hurdling, falling with the race at her mercy first time out and quickly making amends at Wetherby a fortnight ago. Should go in again. Won comfortably at Wetherby a fortnight ago and has very obvious claims here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (7/2 -17%) Window Of Time |
7/2(-17%) | (4) Window Of Time 7/2, Fair maiden on the Flat in Ireland for Joseph O'Brien. Bettered her hurdling debut when third at Ludlow three weeks ago but needs to up her game again if she's to trouble Opec. Well beaten on last month's hurdling debut but her subsequent Ludlow third was much better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (40/1 -60%) Serendipitous Lady |
40/1(-60%) | (3) Serendipitous Lady 40/1, Modest handicapper on the Flat who was below form on debut for this yard at Kempton last time. Hard to make a case for on first go at hurdling. Low-grade nursery winner last autumn but her recent stable debut was very disappointing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (50/1 -52%) By Farhh The Best |
50/1(-52%) | (2) By Farhh The Best 50/1, Only achieved a low level of form on the Flat for Kevin Philippart De Foy, so will have to up her game markedly if she's to compete on hurdling debut. Beaten about 20l in basement-grade classified race on latest of six Flat starts. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Well clear when coming to grief two from home at Market Rasen in June, OPEC was able to make amends when returning at Wetherby a fortnight ago. James Owen's filly must concede 7lb to her rivals, but she has scope for further improvement and is the one to beat. Window Of Time offered encouragement when third at Ludlow three weeks ago and she might be the main danger. Of the remainder, By Farhh The Best appeals most.
OPEC was impressive in opening her account at the second attempt over hurdles and should have little issue following up in a weak race. Window of Time is the likely candidate to capitalise if the selection underperforms.
It's hard to oppose OPEC, who won a better race than this comfortably a fortnight ago.

1st (3) (13/8 +13%) Hymac |
13/8(+13%) | (3) Hymac 13/8, Proved well suited by a step up to 3½m when opening his chase account at Cheltenham in April. Back hurdling on his return over a trip which may not place quite enough emphasis on stamina for him. Breakthrough win in 3m4f Cheltenham chase in April; shorter trip might not prove ideal now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (2/1 -23%) One Big Bang |
2/1(-23%) | (1) One Big Bang 2/1, Maiden in Ireland but 2-2 around 3m for James Owen in the spring, namely a Haydock handicap on good to soft and a Uttoxeter novice on heavy. Almost certainly more to come for this stable. Much improved for current yard, impressively scoring at Haydock and Uttoxter; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (2/1 +11%) Kruger Park |
2/1(+11%) | (5) Kruger Park 2/1, Improved when handicapping last season, including a 20.5f Newbury win on heavy ground in March. Bold show likely on return. Ended last season on the up in handicaps; not taken lightly back in novice company. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (66/1 -32%) Jay Bee Whiskey |
66/1(-32%) | (4) Jay Bee Whiskey 66/1, Multiple point winner but could only manage sixth in a Stratford hunter chase on his Rules debut in May. In a modest fourth when unseating at the last in a Ffos Las maiden hurdle 4 months later. Outsider here. Some promise on belated hurdling debut in Ffos Las novice; this demands a lot more though. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (22/1 -10%) Castle Daragh |
22/1(-10%) | (2) Castle Daragh 22/1, Winning pointer who made a successful Rules debut in a 3m Chepstow hunter chase in April. Pulled up at Stratford the following month. Best watched now hurdling on return. Pulled up in Stratford hunter chase final run; goes hurdling now with something to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Dual hurdles winner One Big Bang hasn't looked back since making his first start for James Owen in March and he warrants respect in his bid for a hat-trick. However, a double penalty will make life tougher for the six-year-old and HYMAC shades the verdict in receipt of weight. The son of Ask capped off last season's campaign with a victory over fences in a competitive handicap at Cheltenham and he has the ability to win on this return to hurdles. Kruger Park is unlikely to be far away.
ONE BIG BANG is yet another who has thrived for a switch to James Owen and is selected to maintain his unbeaten record for the yard on his return. Kruger Park can give him most to do with Hymac not sure to benefit from the drop in trip on his hurdle return.
James Owen continues to impress and his ex-Irish recruit ONE BIG BANG is taken to return in excellent style and make it 3-3 for the yard

1st (3) (8/1 -129%) Sparks Fly |
8/1(-129%) | (3) Sparks Fly 8/1, Won 8 times in a remarkable 2023 campaign and underlined how effective she is on testing ground when making all in a French listed race earlier this month. Ought to give another good account with conditions to suit. Suited by the mud; did well last autumn and won a French Listed race on latest outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (15/8 +46%) Qirat |
15/8(+46%) | (4) Qirat 15/8, Has landed 2 good prizes over 7f at Goodwood this year. Bumped into another progressive 3-y-o when second of 18 in the Challenge Cup at Ascot (7f, good) 25 days ago. Shapes as if he'll be equally effective at 1m. Can make his presence felt up in class. Progressive over 7f, including on soft; twice looked stretched by 1m this summer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (13/2 -8%) Al Mubhir |
13/2(-8%) | (1) Al Mubhir 13/2, Consistent type who made the breakthrough at listed level at Sandown (1¼m) in July. Similar form when finishing close-up in pair of Group 3s subsequently but latest Newmarket run disappointing. Bounce back needed. Goes well on soft and acts on heavy; needs to bounce back from a poor show 18 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (80/1 -100%) Canoodled |
80/1(-100%) | (5) Canoodled 80/1, Suited by a step up to 1¼m when landing a big-field handicap at York Ebor meeting but was back to her slow-starting ways when only seventh of 9 in handicap at Newbury (1¼m, soft) last month. Has a bit to find at this level. Has not shone on softer than good in 2023 or 2024; plenty to find on ratings. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (8/1 -33%) Miss Cantik |
8/1(-33%) | (6) Miss Cantik 8/1, Ploughed through the mud to land a 1m Leicester handicap in April. Close third of 9 in 1m Longchamp listed race (9f, heavy) 10 days ago. Regular hood not on this time. Ought to be on the premises. All wins on soft or heavy; close 3rd in recent French Listed race also gives e-w chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (9/4 -13%) Grey's Monument |
9/4(-13%) | (2) Grey's Monument 9/4, Smart performer who has been better than ever this autumn, defying a mark of 105 in an Ascot handicap before seeing off Northern Express in a Redcar listed race (both 7f). Has also won a listed event over this trip. Leading claims. 7f wins on soft recently in handicap at Ascot and Listed race when 5-6 at Redcar. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (10/1 +70%) Times Edition |
10/1(+70%) | (7) Times Edition 10/1, Pretty useful performer who made it ninth time lucky when easily making all in 1m Redcar novice 12 days ago. The switch to forcing tactics looked to really suit her but it'll be a lot harder to dominate this opposition. Off the mark at eighth attempt (1m, soft) but looks out of her depth with this assignment. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Grey's Monument got up late to score in a similar contest over 7f at Redcar earlier in the month. The return to further will undoubtedly aid his cause but, while another bold bid looks assured, SPARKS FLY is preferred. David Loughnane's charge exploited an ease in grade to win at Saint-Cloud recently and with conditions to suit, she can follow up in receipt of 5lb from the former. Al Mubhir and Qirat are far from out of this either.
Ralph Beckett looks to hold the key to this listed race, with GREYS MONUMNENT taken to land a third win at this level at the expense of stablemate Qirat. Sparks Fly is another who knows what it takes to win in listed company and should also have a say on ground which suits her so well.
It's pretty tight among four of the older horses but slight preference is for the 4yo fillies SPARKS FLY and Miss Cantik.

7/2(-5%) | (1) Dark Viper 7/2, Fair gelding. Creditable second of 27 in handicap (9/1) at the Curragh (7f, good to soft) 13 days ago, keeping on well. Looks well worth a go at 1m on that evidence. Consistent placed form on turf this year; has to be respected despite top-weight. |

3rd (2) (6/1 +0%) Distillate |
6/1(+0%) | (2) Distillate 6/1, Fair filly. Course winner. Latest win at Cork in September. Creditable third of 14 in handicap at this course (7f, 16/1) 5 days ago. Good third her five days ago after not clear run over 7f; yet to win over this trip though. |

25/1(-39%) | (6) Shining Aitch 25/1, Fair gelding. C&D winner. 17/2 and visor on for 1st time in NH sphere when below form tenth of 16 in handicap hurdle at Bellewstown (17.2f, good) 63 days ago. C&D handicap winner in April but has been held by the handicapper since; plenty to find. |

5th (12) (10/3 +67%) Red Special |
10/3(+67%) | (12) Red Special 10/3, Fair gelding. 12/1, below form eighth of 16 in handicap at Gowran (8.3f, heavy) 9 days ago, met some trouble. Blinkers may help iron out his slightly ungainly side. Wouldn't be out of it if reproducing Bellewstown claiming third two starts back. |

6th (3) (14/1 -17%) Nedita |
14/1(-17%) | (3) Nedita 14/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Last of 14 in handicap at Leopardstown (8f, good, 15/2). Off 166 days. Hood on first time. Promise here last winter; returns from summer break with hood fitted. |

8th (8) (7/1 +13%) Academy Winner |

33/1(-106%) | (11) Munroh 33/1, Last of 20 in handicap at Leopardstown (10f, heavy, 66/1) 10 days ago. Makes polytrack debut and has a lot to prove at present. Form so far for current trainer poor so hard to fancy. |

100/1(-203%) | (4) Tassarolo 100/1, Fifth of 6 in maiden at Roscommon (10.4f, soft, 33/1) on debut 16 days ago. Down in trip. Difficult ask. Moderate debut run at Roscommon recently. |

ACADEMY WINNER, placed in a Gowran handicap over a mile last month, is less exposed than many of these and can score. Denis Hogan's three-year-old is related to plenty of dirt winners in the US and didn't run badly over the extended ten furlongs on his first visit here. He should be suited by dropping back in trip. Dark Viper has been runner-up six times on turf this season, mostly on easy ground. He ran well on AW debut when trained in Britain last year but it remains to be seen how he'll handle this surface. Redemptive Power was second over a longer trip in a handicap here last month and should be competitive at this level.
REDEMPTIVE POWER failed to justify support in handicap company here last time but it wasn't a bad effort and this 3-y-o is favoured by the weights down in class. He looks the one to beat, though Dark Viper is a threat with 1m expected to suit. Academy Winner can also get involved.
A tentative vote goes to DARK VIPER on his first AW start for the Harrington's, having been running well in defeat on turf of late

1st (5) (7/1 +22%) Lunar Contact |
7/1(+22%) | (5) Lunar Contact 7/1, Fair form over hurdles for Alan King in 2022/23. Yet to fire for this yard but showed some aptitude for chasing when fourth at Plumpton last time. Should build on that with cheekpieces fitted. Winning pointer (latest over C&D); fair run on chase debut; well treated; bit to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (11/2 +21%) Illogical Logic |
11/2(+21%) | (7) Illogical Logic 11/2, Lightly-raced maiden who has yet to make an impact in handicaps, including over fences. Mark is edging down, though, and he's worth a market check. Maiden hurdler; well beaten in three handicaps over fences; improvement needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (1/1 -10%) Instant Gambler |
1/1(-10%) | (4) Instant Gambler 1/1, Has proved a revelation since switched over the larger obstacles and completed a four-timer with ease at Fontwell last week. Should take all the beating again. 4-4 over fences; latest win at Fontwell last week; has a 7lb penalty; should go well again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (9/2 +18%) Awesome Foursome |
9/2(+18%) | (3) Awesome Foursome 9/2, Bumper/hurdles winner who again ran creditably when runner-up at Ludlow (21.2f) in May. Not in same form at Market Rasen a month later but can't be ruled out now chasing with his yard going great guns. Bumper winner; only hurdles win was over 2m4f on heavy; interesting on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (14/1 -56%) Up For Appeal |
14/1(-56%) | (2) Up For Appeal 14/1, Got off the mark over fences at Newton Abbot in June but operating below best more recently, struggling some way out when pulled up at Worcester (20f) in August. Bit to prove now. In fair form chasing this summer (2m5f win in June); pulled up last time; could go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (16/1 +20%) Henry Box Brown |
16/1(+20%) | (6) Henry Box Brown 16/1, Has returned to chasing this season and gained a first success over fences when staying on to lead close home in a Worcester handicap (20f, good) in August. Failed to back it up at Hereford, though, and others are more appealing. 2m4f Worcester winner in August; well beaten last time; 3m should suit; could go well. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
INSTANT GAMBLER has simply got better and better with experience in this sphere and while has more to do under a 7lb penalty for the latest of his four consecutive victories over fences, this level is unlikely to put him far out of his comfort zone and further success could be imminent. Awesome Foursome is feared most with his yard in excellent form, although Up For Appeal and Henry Box Brown are unexposed at the trip and could also make this interesting.
INSTANT GAMBLER has thrived over fences and looked well ahead of the handicapper again when easing clear to complete the four-timer at Fontwell last week. Awesome Foursome is an interesting chasing debutant and Lunar Contact isn't without hope.
The progressive INSTANT GAMBLER (nap) can make it five out of five over fences despite his 7lb penalty for last week's Fontwell win.

1st (6) (6/4 +70%) Western General |
6/4(+70%) | (6) Western General 6/4, Hurdles winner who got the hang of chasing in the spring, going close at Taunton before fourth of 11 at Ffos Las. Has had wind surgery ahead of reappearance. Went very close in the spring on penultimate start and returns having had wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (2/1 +20%) Royal Jewel |
2/1(+20%) | (4) Royal Jewel 2/1, Progressive over hurdles at Exeter last season, including a maiden win around 2m and a near miss in a handicap over 18.5f. An Irish point background provides hope he can prove at least as good over fences. Interesting runner. Very lightly raced point runner-up who could improve for the switch to fences; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (6/1 +33%) Dr T J Eckleburg |
6/1(+33%) | (5) Dr T J Eckleburg 6/1, Two chase wins last season and plenty of creditable efforts in defeat subsequently. Should be competitive if ready to roll after 6 months off. Went close off this mark on heavy ground in February; not ruled out on reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (6/1 +20%) Champagnesuperover |
6/1(+20%) | (2) Champagnesuperover 6/1, Dual chaser winner around 3m in spring 2022. Showed ability remains after a long absence on the first of 2 outings over hurdles this spring. Well handicapped on his peak efforts over fences but isn't certain to benefit from the drop to 2m. Question about how much ability he retains, but he's on a dangerous mark for in-form yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (14/1 -40%) Fast Buck |
14/1(-40%) | (3) Fast Buck 14/1, Dual chase winner and should be sharper for a recent comeback outing over hurdles. More than capable off this mark if on a going day. Well beaten on reappearance but the return to fences and testing ground is in his favour. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Having scored on his seasonal bow at Huntingdon last season, MR GREY SKY could be worth chancing on this return to action. The veteran is racing off the same mark as his subsequent victory at Chepstow and he makes plenty of appeal for a stable in good heart at present. Progressive novice hurdler Royal Jewel boasts a pointing background and is feared most now debuting over fences. Western General and Champagnesuperover are others to note on their reappearance.
MR GREY SKY won first time up last season and is taken to repeat the feat with the Kim Bailey team in form. Chase newcomer Royal Jewel is a potentially dangerous opponent, particularly if the betting vibes are strong. Joe Tizzard was among the winners over the weekend and his course hurdle scorer Western General could also play a part if a wind operation has had a positive effect.
The point runner-up ROYAL JEWEL is taken to make a winning start over fences, having shown promise in his light hurdling career.

5/2(-54%) | (1) Fireblade 5/2, Twice-raced maiden. Improved when second of 6 in novice at Ascot (12f, soft, 9/4) 26 days ago. Potential there to make a useful stayer in time and he seems sure to go well up in trip. Beaten a neck in novice at Ascot (1m4f, soft) second time; lots of encouragement for 1m6f. |

11/2(-100%) | (4) Faifa 11/2, Lightly-raced maiden. 7/2, respectable fourth of 14 in maiden at Kempton (11f) 28 days ago. Up in trip. Shortlist material. Four starts, easily best form when staying-on third in novice (1m4f, good to firm) in July. |

FIREBLADE is a progressive gelding based on his neck defeat over 1m4f at Ascot a few weeks ago. Closing on the winner all the way to the line that day, this extra test of stamina will likely suit the son of Frankel and he's also proven on soft ground. The selection's stablemate Faifa has more to prove on the likely going, but Mr Hampstead looks a bigger threat back at this level, having struggled in both the Derby and the Queen's Vase since filling third in a maiden at Chester in May.
FIREBLADE bettered his debut form when runner-up at Ascot and, with further progress on the cards, he's fancied to get the better of stablemate Faifa, who has achieved a bit more to this point. Volakes is also of interest with improvement expected.
Cracksman's brother FIREBLADE looked tailormade for this test last time out and it's the once-raced Volakes who is feared most.

THOMPSON GUNNER has been placed on his last two runs over C&D and might get his head in front now. Third on his first visit here last month, the Highland Reel gelding came back a week later and was touched off by a horse that has gone on to frank the form. Shane Foley now takes over in the saddle and being drawn in stall one should be a help. There was plenty of money for Zabeir here last time when the grey wasn't beaten far over 7f and Declan McDonogh retains the partnership, while Timana was placed in a pair of C&D maidens earlier in the year and is interesting on stable and handicap debut.
THOMPSON GUNNER shaped well when placed in a couple of C&D handicaps last month and is taken to open his account now. Fellow low mileage 3-y-o Timana could have more to offer in handicaps and is second choice ahead of Skontonovski, who failed to fire here last time but has plenty of good efforts at this venue.
Preference is for ZABEIR. He has slipped to a career low mark, his sole win came at this venue and this step back up to 1m should suit.

9/4(+0%) | (2) Miami Magic 9/4, Half-brother to 3 winners, including smart chaser Pobbles Bay and fairly useful hurdler/chaser Oxwich Bay. Off mark in points at third attempt and came within head of making a winning bumper debut at Aintree in May. One to consider hurdling for new yard. Point winner; went close in Aintree bumper in May; has a big role to play here. |

2nd (3) (7/2 +0%) Authentic Legacy |
7/2(+0%) | (3) Authentic Legacy 7/2, Fair in bumpers and ran to a similar level sent hurdling when second at Chepstow (2m) in April. In the right hands to progress this term. Not beaten far in two good-quality bumpers before very respectable second on hurdle debut. |

3rd (1) (5/6 +100%) Jubilant |
5/6(+100%) | (1) Jubilant 5/6, £40,000 Irish point recruit who built on a promising Rules debut to open his account in bumper at Huntingdon in April. Matched that form when second under a penalty at Fontwell a month later and he's a pretty useful hurdles prospect for in-form stable. Looked very promising in bumpers in the spring; ought to be hard to beat on hurdle debut. |

Irish bumper winner in February but well down the field on recent stable/hurdle debut. |

200/1(-100%) | (5) Prophet Squeeze 200/1, Fifth both completed starts in Irish points but very low-key start over hurdles. A well-beaten outsider on her first two hurdling starts. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
JUBILANT has a big frame to fill and although a shade disappointing when run out of things in a bumper at Fontwell when last seen, he could be a different proposition on his hurdles debut having been given time to mature. Miami Magic has a similar profile and looks an obvious threat based on a promising Rules debut in a NH Flat race at Aintree in May. Authentic Legacy showed some promise on his only previous start over timber and is capable of a decent showing.
JUBILANT ran to a pretty high level in bumpers and returning for a yard in excellent order, he's taken to make a winning hurdles debut at the expense of Authentic Legacy and Miami Magic.
Impressive when beating a next-time-out winner by a wide margin in a bumper last season, JUBILANT can make a winning hurdle debut.

6/1(+25%) | (3) Royal Mer 6/1, Notched 5 wins in an excellent first campaign over fences. Presumably found a busy spell catching up with him when pulled up at Aintree in the spring. Reverts to hurdles on reappearance. Has improved over fences since last seen over hurdles and he loves the mud. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (14/1 -75%) Celtic Art |
14/1(-75%) | (5) Celtic Art 14/1, Returned to form to win at Lingfield (2m) last November. Below par at Uttoxeter when last seen in May but he's dropped back to the mark he defied at Lingfield. Player if ready to roll after 6 months off. Good mark but just about gets away with soft ground and heavy could be challenging. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (2) (7/1 +56%) Gardener |
7/1(+56%) | (2) Gardener 7/1, Fairly useful dual winning chaser for this yard last season but well-held sixth back over hurdles on Fontwell reappearance. Should strip fitter but Vocito looks the yard first string here. Tailed off on his return to hurdles and Sean Bowen gets off to partner stablemate Vocito. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Major Fortune proved a different proposition on the switch to handicaps last season, winning five races on the bounce, and a 6lb higher mark for his narrow defeat at Ayr in April is unlikely the ceiling of his ability. With all that being said, this 2m1f distance looks on the sharp side for Dan Skelton's gelding and VOCITO has more compelling claims. A switch to more aggressive tactics saw the son of Vocalised scoring with ease at Stratford earlier this month and he looks ready for a return to handicap company. Celtic Art is also noted.
VOCITO has been prolific since joining Olly Murphy and is taken to go in again. Celtic Art has returned to the mark he defied at Lingfield at a similar time last year and is second choice ahead of Pirates' Tale. Major Fortune should have even more to offer this season but the drop back to around 2m is a concern given his improvement last term came over much longer trips.
Last season's big improver MAJOR FORTUNE (nap) might not be overly troubled by this drop in distance given the testing conditions.

1st (6) (5/2 +55%) Fantasy Master |
5/2(+55%) | (6) Fantasy Master 5/2, C&D winner. Latest win at Doncaster in September. Sixth of 8 in handicap (5/1) at Doncaster (6f, soft) 5 days ago. Has had a busy spell recently but always deserves respect at this track. Suited by Nottingham and ran well over C&D two weeks ago; less good last week. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (4/1 -33%) Blind Beggar |
4/1(-33%) | (4) Blind Beggar 4/1, 8/1, respectable second of 9 in handicap at this C&D (heavy) 14 days ago. On a good mark and likely to be involved. Good 2nd over C&D two weeks ago in a stronger race; leading contender off the same mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (13/2 -63%) Moulin Booj |
13/2(-63%) | (5) Moulin Booj 13/2, Latest win at Windsor in August. Fourth of 6 in handicap (17/2) at Yarmouth (5.2f, soft) 8 days ago. Not dismissed. Pulled hard and ran OK considering when 4th at Yarmouth last week; drying ground can help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (10/3 -33%) Makanah |
10/3(-33%) | (1) Makanah 10/3, Latest win at Redcar in August. 10/3, creditable second of 8 in handicap at Leicester (5f, heavy) 22 days ago. Looks the one to beat. Veteran but retains ability and comes here on the back of a good 2nd on heavy; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (6/1 +33%) Hyperfocus |
6/1(+33%) | (3) Hyperfocus 6/1, 11/1, sixth of 8 in handicap at Haydock (6f, heavy) 12 days ago. Others are more persuasive. Thhis year's best has been reserved for Chester; returning to 5f a plus; can't discount. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (8/1 +0%) Changeofmind |
8/1(+0%) | (2) Changeofmind 8/1, 7/1, ninth of 10 in handicap at Catterick (5f, heavy) 11 days ago. In a lull and needs to bounce back. Not kicked on from a good 2nd at Hamilton in August; others safer despite an ease in grade. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
The nine-year-old MAKANAH may not be the force of old, but still looks capable of winning off his current rating having gone close on testing going at Leicester last time. Another bold bid is anticipated from Julie Camacho's sprinter, while Blind Beggar has to enter calculations after finishing runner-up over course and distance last time. Changeofmind has been keeping better company since placing at Hamilton in August and could also go well.
MAKANAH has been in good form and handled tough conditions well once again when second at Leicester last time, so he's marginally preferred to Blind Beggar. Fantasy Master has a solid course record, so he's worthy of consideration, too.
A 0-95 in name only and veteran MAKANAH (nap) may hold a class advantage over the field. His latest Leicester second was a fine effort.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
CHESTER NIMITZ was second in a big-field maiden at Navan on debut and should be hard to beat if he can transfer that form to Polytrack. The Profitable gelding showed plenty of pace before being collared close home by an 89-rated rival and there doesn't appear to be anything of that calibre in this field. Gold Daydream made a pleasing debut herself when fifth over this trip at Naas and is a half-sister to a couple of AW winners. The latter's trainer Diego Dias also runs the 76-rated Sharkii who was beaten less than two lengths in a C&D contest last month while Rion Rubette twice went close in 6f maidens on turf in the summer.
CHESTER NIMITZ just about sets the standard at the weights and there should be more to come based on his promising debut, so he gets the nod over Gold Daydream. Rion Rubette can play a part if back on track.
RION RUBETTE gets the nod dropped back to 6f on her AW bow; she is well treated by the race conditions and Shane Foley is back on board

1st (6) (22/1 -57%) River Gold |
22/1(-57%) | (6) River Gold 22/1, Won a claiming hurdle in France last summer. Struggled in 4 outings for Nicky Henderson and fared no better starting out for this yard at Plumpton 9 days ago. Best watched now chasing. 3yo hurdle winner in France; mainly disappointing since; may fare better on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (15/8 +25%) Nevendon |
15/8(+25%) | (3) Nevendon 15/8, A fair 2m hurdle winner and getting the hang of things over fences now, off the mark at Southwell earlier this month. Ran well back on the Flat 9 days ago and remains of interest back in this sphere. Won over fences at Southwell this month (2nd won since); good Flat run latest; a possible. |

3rd (1) (11/4 0%) Grain D'oudairies |
11/4(0%) | (1) Grain D'oudairies 11/4, Scored at Market Rasen in March and has held his form well when third in 3 outings since. In the mix. Two wins last term, the second over fences off 7lb lower after a break; likely candidate. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (10/3 +44%) Jolyjump |
10/3(+44%) | (4) Jolyjump 10/3, Proved a different proposition on handicap hurdle debut after 12 weeks off as he landed Taunton contest in April. Found only a fellow improver too good upped to 20f here following month and might have found next run coming too soon. Interesting chase debutant. Won 16-runner 2m h'cap hurdle in April; fair run next time; interesting on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (10/1 +29%) Delpotro |
10/1(+29%) | (5) Delpotro 10/1, Successful 2 out of his 3 starts over fences at Nort-sur-Erdre this summer. Since claimed from Gabriel Leenders for €9,106 but she was too free on her yard debut at Worcester last month. Worth another chance with tongue strap re-fitted. Strong puller; won 2 claiming chases in France; well beaten on British debut; no hood here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (9/1 -300%) Fever Dream |
9/1(-300%) | (2) Fever Dream 9/1, Winner over hurdles at Perth in June and shaped well in defeat both starts since. Looks a chasing type, though starts out over much shorter trip than ideal. 3m h'cap hurdle win in June (2nd over 2m4f here previous start); chase debut; 2m a concern. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
NEVENDON travelled with real verve when landing a first chase success at Southwell 27 days ago and showed that he is still in good heart when a close-up second on the all-weather since. A 5lb higher mark in this sphere looks more than fair and the seven-year-old ticks plenty of the right boxes having previously performed well at this venue over hurdles. Chase debutant Fever Dream boasts a pointing background and he's feared most, ahead of Grain D'oudairies.
NEVENDON is getting the of things over fences now, beating a subsequent winner when off the mark at Southwell, and shades the vote over progressive hurdler Fever Dream, who may find this trip shorter than ideal on chase bow.
With a strong pace likely it could pay to side with the experienced GRAIN D'OUDAIRIES who won by a wide margin in March after a break.

1st (7) (9/4 +0%) Catch Him Derry |
9/4(+0%) | (7) Catch Him Derry 9/4, Progressive sort who made it 2 wins from 3 starts in handicaps in 16-runner event at Ayr (24.3f, soft) 6 months ago. Did it readily and can go on improving this season. Has won two of his three handicaps and likely that he has more to offer this campaign. |

2nd (1) (8/1 +60%) Flight Deck |
8/1(+60%) | (1) Flight Deck 8/1, Smart on his day for Jonjo O'Neill and he took his form up a notch for his current yard when an excellent third in Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury last season. Disappointing next 3 outings but took a step back in the right direction when fifth at Worcester (23f) in June. Visor on for 1st time. Potentially well treated and could rediscover some spark in the new headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (17/2 +15%) Astronomic View |
17/2(+15%) | (4) Astronomic View 17/2, Exeter bumper winner who confirmed previous promise over hurdles when recording a wide-margin success in 6-runner handicap at Warwick (26f, heavy) in March, albeit in a race that fell apart. Found it tougher in a deeper contest away from bottomless ground at Haydock on final outing. Perhaps flattered to win by so far at Warwick and an 8lb rise told next time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (17/2 +6%) Canty Bay |
17/2(+6%) | (3) Canty Bay 17/2, Landed a maiden (19f) at this course on return in November and suited by increase in trip when resuming winning ways at Ludlow (21.2f) in February. Underperformed at Uttoxeter but wasted no time getting back to form when second in 7-runner handicap at Taunton (23.9f) on final outing. Considered. Solid novice campaign last season, including handicaps; remains on a fair mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (12/1 -20%) Bertie Wooster |
12/1(-20%) | (9) Bertie Wooster 12/1, Gained reward for consistency when opening his account in 10-runner handicap hurdle at Taunton (19f, good, 8/1) 6 months ago. More needed reappearing from a 5 lb higher mark, though. Consistent last season and deserved his win off 5lb lower at Taunton; ground concerns. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (7/1 -27%) El Granjero |
7/1(-27%) | (6) El Granjero 7/1, Successful on sole outing in points and made the most of a good opportunity when landing 12-runner maiden hurdle at Hereford (19.7f) in March. Followed up on handicap debut back there on final outing but 6 lb higher mark demands further improvement on this return to action. Progressive in the spring and hard to grumble with a 6lb rise for the handicap success. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (125/1 -279%) Golden Whisky |
125/1(-279%) | (8) Golden Whisky 125/1, Hurdle and multiple chase winner but had lost his way badly over fences when last seen. A watching brief has to be the percentage call back hurdling after 19 months off. Long-time absent and unraced over hurdles since 2019; returns with a lot to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (7/2 +36%) Shallow River |
7/2(+36%) | (2) Shallow River 7/2, Gained reward for a string of good efforts in handicap hurdles when staying on to lead close home at Exeter (23.1f) in February and far from disgraced in deeper contest at Cheltenham when last seen in April. Starts out for yard making hay lately with recruits from same source and must be respected. Heavy-ground Exeter winner who didn't run too bad a race on good at Cheltenham. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (14/1 -56%) Itseemslikeit |
14/1(-56%) | (5) Itseemslikeit 14/1, Shaped like a stayer in a Chepstow bumper in October and was sensibly ridden when landing a Ffos Las maiden (20f, heavy) on hurdles debut. Well held under a penalty in a deeper race at Newbury when last seen and now tackles handicap company for the first time. Tongue tied/had breathing op. Maiden winner; unexposed handicap debutant who has had wind surgery. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
El Granjero justified his short odds in fine style on his handicap bow at Hereford in April and should mount a serious challenge off a 6lb higher rating. However, he could come out second best to CATCH HIM DERRY, who struck in commanding style in this grade over 3m at Ayr last time and he looks well placed to record a double. Canty Bay is another to note after his runner-up effort at Taunton at this level on his latest outing.
The one who stands out is CATCH HIM DERRY, who made it 2 wins from 3 starts in handicaps in ready fashion at Ayr 6 months ago and looks sure to go on improving this season. Shallow River sets out for a yard making hay with recruits from the same source so has to feared, along with Canty Bay, who resumed his progress with a good second at Taunton in April.
The eyes are drawn to CATCH HIM DERRY and El Granjero, both of whom signed off last season with progressive profiles.

Standing up really well to a busy campaign. Five wins this year and she had a near miss on AW last time; respected back on turf. |

5th (8) (7/1 +50%) Mehmo |
7/1(+50%) | (8) Mehmo 7/1, C&D winner. Latest win here in April. 17/2, eighth of 9 in handicap at Southwell (5f) 6 days ago. Bit to prove at present. Won over C&D in April but he's been disappointing since and needs a major revival. |

6th (7) (7/2 -75%) Collusion |
7/2(-75%) | (7) Collusion 7/2, Much improved when excellent second of 11 in handicap at Yarmouth (6f, soft, 10/1) 8 days ago. Has to be taken very seriously from the same mark. Went close on handicap debut at Yarmouth (6f, soft) last week; key player off same mark. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (8/1 +33%) Sound Reason |
8/1(+33%) | (6) Sound Reason 8/1, Twenty runs since last win in 2023. Ninth of 12 in handicap at Redcar (5f, soft, 12/1) 12 days ago, merely passing beaten rivals. Cheekpieces back on and he needs everything to fall right. Has not threatened in last three runs and he's now 0-20 since last win; down the list. |

9th (5) (18/1 +28%) Buraback |
18/1(+28%) | (5) Buraback 18/1, Four wins from 14 runs this year, most recently at Leicester in April. Tenth of 14 in handicap at Newcastle (5f, 25/1). Off 124 days but below that last successful mark if fully tuned for this. Four wins in the spring but he's gone off the boil in last four runs; others preferred. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
COLLUSION produced a career-best effort on his return to action when hitting the crossbar over 6f at Yarmouth eight days ago and he competes off the same mark. James Tate's three-year-old could have plenty more to offer on only his second handicap start and looks the one to beat. Smooth Silesie has occupied the runner-up berth on the all-weather the last twice and provided she can transfer that form to turf, she could have a say. Wrestling Revenue completes the shortlist.
COLLUSION left his qualifying form trailing in his wake when runner-up on handicap debut at Yarmouth a week ago and from the same mark, he's hard to get away from. Smooth Silesie has been kept busy this season but regularly gives her running, with Albegone another to consider.
The vote goes to the unexposed 3yo COLLUSION, who found improvement when going close on his handicap debut at Yarmouth last week.

40/1(-21%) | (8) Masked Angel 40/1, Once-raced filly. Seventh of 14 in maiden at this C&D (33/1) on debut 19 days ago. Work to do. Not a bad first effort when staying on in mid-field over C&D, plenty of improvement needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (28/1 -100%) Bundle Of Interest |
28/1(-100%) | (2) Bundle Of Interest 28/1, Twice-raced filly. Sixth of 15 in maiden (9/1) at Gowran (8.3f, heavy) 9 days ago. Others preferred. Has shown ability in outings over 6f and an extended 1m, trip may suit, extra needed. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Plenty of future winners look sure to come out of this deep fillies' maiden. City Of Troy's half-sister TAKEMETOTHEMOON made up plenty of ground for third on racecourse bow at Leopardstown for Aidan O'Brien and can progress from that on her Polytrack debut. Adrian Murray's Carolina Jetstream certainly outran her odds when a never-nearer third in a fillies' maiden at the Curragh and the winner has since been placed in a Group 3. Takemetothemoon's stablemate, Dramatic, is half-sister to a Listed-placed horse (at Dundalk), while Justify filly Ethical Code could have a role to play on debut for Ger Lyons. Joseph O'Brien's trio of the 83-rated Cradle Of Love, and newcomers Mveve and Matrice cannot be ruled out.
TAKEMETOTHEMOON should have learnt plenty from her encouraging Leopardstown debut and gets the nod here. Cradle of Love and Carolina Jetstream head the list of dangers in what should prove an informative maiden.
Narrow preference is for CAROLINA JETSTREAM, third behind subsequent Group 3-placed Giselle at the Curragh, over Takemetothemoon.

(8) (6/1 0%)6/1(0%) | (8) Rocky's Glory 6/1, Too keen for own good when seventh of 14 in novice hurdle at Newton Abbot (18.5f, good) 69 days ago. First-time hood looks a good move on handicap debut and is worth a second look in the market. Strong puller; modest form over hurdles; may settle better with a hood now tried. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (1) (7/2 -27%) Mavis Pike |
7/2(-27%) | (1) Mavis Pike 7/2, Having just her third start over hurdles when respectable fifth of 9 in novice at Exeter (16.7f, good, 85/40) 20 days ago and could have more to offer on switch to handicapping. Fair form, best run when 3rd in a novice; not particularly well treated on h'cap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (14/1 +13%) Dreams Fled Away |
14/1(+13%) | (3) Dreams Fled Away 14/1, Showed a bit more than previously over hurdles when fifth of 13 in novice at Uttoxeter (15.8f, good to soft) 24 days ago. May do better on handicap debut but opening mark could have been kinder. Dual 1m4f AW Flat winner; decent 5th in maiden hurdle latest; interesting on h'cap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (12/1 -50%) Ugo Bingo |
12/1(-50%) | (4) Ugo Bingo 12/1, Fair form when winning sole Flat start in France and looks to have been brought along gradually in this sphere. Worth monitoring in market on handicap bow. 1m4f Flat winner in France; modest form over hurdles; improvement needed on h'cap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (18/1 -29%) Simply Gorgeous |
18/1(-29%) | (7) Simply Gorgeous 18/1, Fair at best on Flat but has offered little on both her completed starts over hurdles. Makes limited appeal on switch to handicapping. Two wins over 1m on the Flat; modest efforts over hurdles; may improve now handicapping. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (1/1 +47%) Catboy |
1/1(+47%) | (6) Catboy 1/1, Off the mark at Fontwell (17.7f) last month and improved again when second of 15 in handicap hurdle at Exeter (18.5f, good to soft) 8 days ago. Leading contender. Has improved with cheekpieces; this sharp 2m is a concern but he's worth considering. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (11/1 +56%) Secret Sauce |
11/1(+56%) | (5) Secret Sauce 11/1, Yet to score over hurdles and ran poorly when last seen in this sphere at Worcester in July. Likely best watched after wind operation. 1m Flat winner; on a good mark; chance now back with Tony Charlton having had a wind op. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (40/1 -186%) Stopnsearch |
40/1(-186%) | (2) Stopnsearch 40/1, Fair performer on Flat (stays 1½m) but has failed to trouble the judge all 3 starts in this sphere to date. Goes handicapping now. Four-time Flat winner at up to 1m2f; fair form over hurdles but yet to prove he stays 2m.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (6/1 +82%) Blitz Spirit |
6/1(+82%) | (9) Blitz Spirit 6/1, Fair performer on the Flat in France but she has yet to make a meaningful impact in this sphere and hasn't been seen for 15 months. Hard to recommend on return for new yard. Ex-Alexandra Dunn; fair form in 2022; poor last year; plenty to prove after 456-day break. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
CATBOY lost little in defeat when finding only a rejuvenated rival too strong in a competitive 15-runner affair at Exeter last week. Christian Williams' charge races off an unchanged mark and he appears the one to beat on this quick turnaround. Mavis Pike has performed with credit in novice/maiden company and she enters handicaps off what looks a workable rating. The five-year-old may serve the most resistance to the selection, with Rocky's Glory making most appeal of the remainder.
CATBOY has looked a different proposition since tried in headgear and can register his second success. Mavis Pike and Ugo Bingo may provide the chief threat.
A modest race can go to SECRET SAUCE who is back with Tony Charlton and is well handicapped on his best form for him earlier this year.

1st (1) (7/2 +42%) Livin On Luco |
7/2(+42%) | (1) Livin On Luco 7/2, Runner-up in an Irish point and quick to show fairly useful form over hurdles, landing 10-runner novice at Chepstow (19.4f, heavy) in January and finishing runner-up in all 3 outings thereafter. Must be of interest on handicap/chase debut, particularly if market speaks in his favour. Consistent hurdler who goes over fences for handicap debut; likeable type. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (5/2 +38%) Sherborne |
5/2(+38%) | (7) Sherborne 5/2, Won twice over hurdles and confirmed the promise of previous starts in this sphere when striking at Wincanton on heavy ground in December. Arrives on back of good second in Exeter handicap chase (19.2f) 20 days ago and holds strong claims. Only 1-10 over fences but goes on heavy ground and bumped into an improver last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (15/2 -173%) Doyouknowwhatimean |
15/2(-173%) | (3) Doyouknowwhatimean 15/2, Showed much improved form to get off the mark in handicap chase (16f) at Lingfield in February and backed that up when scoring (off 10 lb higher) at Stratford (17f) the following month. Likely contender. Won his last two chases and this return to further can trigger further progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (7/2 +46%) Pachacuti |
7/2(+46%) | (5) Pachacuti 7/2, Career best when winning 6-runner handicap chase (7/2) at Wincanton (25.1f, heavy) in February. Drop back in trip may not be ideal on return but can't be discounted, particularly with yard going through a good spell. 3m win in February last time; down in trip and surprising to see cheekpieces left off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (12/1 +14%) Minella Blueway |
12/1(+14%) | (6) Minella Blueway 12/1, Winning Irish pointer who got off the mark under Rules when easily landing Chepstow maiden hurdle (19.5f) in December. Well held over a shorter trip on chase debut at Ffos Las recently, however, and others make more appeal. Hurdle winner; could have shown more on chase debut, for all that 2m was too sharp. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (13/2 +13%) Knowwhentoholdem |
13/2(+13%) | (4) Knowwhentoholdem 13/2, Hurdles winner for Anthony Charlton at Newbury (20.5f) in March and ran to similar level. on debut for this yard, when creditable fourth of 11 in handicap at Wetherby (21.2f, heavy, 5/1) 26 days later. Attention is switched to chasing first time up and warrants respect. Improving hurdler who looks on a reasonable mark and he should make a chaser. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (14/1 -180%) Clonakilty |
14/1(-180%) | (2) Clonakilty 14/1, Ran poorly when last seen at Perth in April but won a couple of handicaps (at up to 20.4f) in the mud last term and could be dangerous if tuned up on his return here. Had an up-and-down first season over fences but still won twice at about 2m4f. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
DOYOUKNOWWHATIMEAN accounted for his nearest rival by over six lengths in this grade at Stratford in March and makes his return to action off a 9lb higher rating. Dan Skelton's seven-year-old might only need to produce a repeat of that display in order to complete the hat-trick. Pachacuti was victorious over 3m1f at Wincanton in February and it would be no surprise to see him get involved, while Sherborne is another to note.
SHERBORNE is proven in testing conditions and has fitness on his side after a fine return at Exeter earlier this month. He makes plenty of appeal. Doyouknowwhatimean and Clonakilty are feared most.
Joe Tizzard's horses are running well and heavy-ground winner SHERBORNE might be the answer receiving weight from all his rivals.

9/2(-13%) | (8) Dogged 9/2, 13/2, creditable third of 8 in handicap at Musselburgh (8f, good to soft) 16 days ago, better placed than most. Back up in trip. Can give a good account. Placed in his last two runs and he should go well again back up in trip. |

4th (11) (6/1 +40%) Star Of St James |
6/1(+40%) | (11) Star Of St James 6/1, C&D winner. Latest win here in August. 16¾ lengths seventh of 14 to Isle of Wolves in handicap (15/2) at Redcar (10f, soft) 12 days ago. Has lost his way in last three runs and his last two wins have been on good to firm. |

17/2(-6%) | (7) Grey D'ars 17/2, 19/1, creditable fifth of 15 in handicap at Saint-Cloud (10.4f, soft) 131 days ago. Others more persuasive. Eight wins in France and he's on a dangerous mark back from a break; one to keep an eye on. |

150/1(-200%) | (9) Orange Martini 150/1, 50/1, twelfth of 13 in handicap at Bath (10.2f, good). Off 168 days. Cheekpieces on for 1st time. 0-12 and he's struggled after slow starts in last three runs; cheekpieces now tried. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (25/1 -25%) Tortured Soul |
25/1(-25%) | (1) Tortured Soul 25/1, Six wins from 19 Flat runs. 5 wins from 11 runs this year. Below form sixth of 11 in handicap (66/1) at Windsor (8.1f, heavy) 16 days ago. Back up in trip. Six-time AW winner who is 0-9 on turf and was a remote sixth at Windsor last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (7/1 +30%) Star Start |
7/1(+30%) | (6) Star Start 7/1, Latest win at Ripon in August. Below form 12½ lengths sixth of 14 to Isle of Wolves in handicap at Redcar (10f, soft, 15/2) 12 days ago, doing too much too soon. Probably did too much too soon at Redcar latest and he could bounce back; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (28/1 -12%) Aldbourne |
28/1(-12%) | (10) Aldbourne 28/1, C&D winner. Blinkered for 1st time, last of 7 in handicap (50/1) at Hamilton (12.1f, good to soft) 30 days ago. Has struggled under both codes for current yard and has lots to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
ISLE OF WOLVES may have been worth more than the winning margin suggests at Redcar on his latest outing. Harriet Bethell's eight-year-old only has a 3lb higher mark to contend with and he could be the one to beat. Dogged hasn't been far away the last twice and is in the mix again, for minor honours at least. Conditions will suit Contrast and Serena Brotherton is an interesting booking.
ISLE OF WOLVES seems well suited by very testing ground so shades the vote over penalised-winner French Martini, who's significantly down in trip. Dogged looks best of the others.
Several have claims but the vote goes to the resurgent ISLE OF WOLVES, who has won under Hannah Dring in two of his last three runs.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Aidan O'Brien's FIRST WAVE looked a winner in waiting when pipped by a neck on debut in a maiden at the Curragh. That form took on an enhanced appearance when the horse that beat him filled the runner-up berth in a Group 1 at Newmarket. O'Brien's Serengeti was a beaten favourite in third at Leopardstown when perhaps the slow ground wasn't ideal for him at this stage of his career. Joseph O'Brien runs two horses with Dylan Browne McMonagle partnering newcomer Aeon's Aegis who should be monitored for market strength. His stablemate, Hostility, was an expensive purchase and has shown ability in fourth at the Curragh and when second in Listowel.
FIRST WAVE found only Dewhurst runner-up and stablemate Expanded too good on debut at the Curragh, shaping really well, and he's sure to progress and win races. Serengeti looked a touch disappointing at Leopardstown, but his successful stable companion Twain took the Criterium International at the weekend so he's fancied to give Aidan O'Brien another 1-2. Hostility is feared.
Dylan Browne McMonagle prefers AEON'S AEGIS to Hostility and a chance is taken that he can make a winning debut.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BOSPHORUS ROSE outran big odds to finish a close-up third over 7f at Southwell earlier in the month and she is likely to have plenty more to offer on only her second start. The daughter of Golden Horn takes a step up in trip and looks the one to beat. Justenzia could only manage sixth on her debut over track and trip, but she might get closer with that experience under her belt. Any market confidence behind Tracy Lord should be noted.
BOSPHORUS ROSE belied huge odds when shaping well in third on debut at Southwell 3 weeks ago, not beaten far with inexperience very much apparent. She seems sure to improve and looks the way to go despite a high draw. Tracy Lord, Pacifist and Chilli Queen head up a host of interesting newcomers.
Perhaps this will go to a newcomer. AMERICAN GAL, who is closely related to six winners, is top of the list.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Point-to-point winner GENTLEMAN TOBOOT changed hands for 46,000 euros in May and the son of Harzand is related to plenty of winners. David Pipe's four-year-old is fancied to make an instant impression, with his main threat possibly being Elysian Knight, who has made the frame on both of his bumper starts to date and should go well. Of the remainder, Kosac D'oudairies makes the most appeal on his first outing under Rules.
Very likely to go the way of a Rules newcomer and without the benefit of market information, GENTLEMAN TOBOOT is awarded the tentative vote on the back of an easy point win. Kosac d'Oudairies and Supreme Malinas are another couple of very likely types.
The betting should reveal clues but Dan Skelton clearly isn't fazed by pitching easy point winner SUPREME MALINAS in against the boys.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
AMEMRI has won twice over this C&D and gained a fourth career win again over this trip on his penultimate start at Listowel last month. The selection couldn't find any extra in the closing stages over a mile last time. Seas And Oceans has gone close on a number of occasions this season and had Akeela just a head behind in third when beating all bar The Cola Brasil over C&D earlier this month. Ferrari Desert ran a cracker in a 27-runner handicap at the Curragh last time and merits respect if backing that up on this sounder surface, while others to consider include Altimara, Rumbled Again and Golden Days.
SEAS AND OCEANS went close over this C&D recently and should go well again off the same mark. Akeela and Rumbled Again head the dangers.
Wide open with a chance taken on FERRARI DESERT following a promising Cork run over this trip

1st (4) (10/1 -25%) Footwork |
10/1(-25%) | (4) Footwork 10/1, Fair maiden. Creditable third of 5 in C&D nursery 54 days ago but this looks more competitive. Suspect there's more to come and nursery debut over C&D last month was respectable. |

2nd (7) (15/2 -25%) Reddeef |
15/2(-25%) | (7) Reddeef 15/2, Thrice-raced maiden. 6/4, fifth of 9 in novice at Pontefract (6f, good to firm) 41 days ago. Cheekpieces on first time. Makes handicap debut. Unexposed. Has a bit to prove after latest run but cheekpieces could help on nursery bow. |

4/1(+20%) | (5) Enrolled 4/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 14/1, fourth of 11 in maiden at Newcastle (1mf) 27 days ago, weakening final 1f having travelled well. Interesting back at 7f for handicap debut. Switches to handicaps with yard in form and latest run better than it looked. |

14/1(-40%) | (9) Graduated 14/1, Won 7f Epsom maiden in August. 12/1, fourth of 5 in nursery at Epsom (7f, soft) 31 days ago, going off harder than ideal. Makes polytrack debut. Could go well from a handy draw. Done little wrong so far but might find this large field tough to dominate. |

6th (8) (6/1 +57%) Solar Army |
6/1(+57%) | (8) Solar Army 6/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Seventh of 9 in maiden at Ascot (7f, good to soft, 50/1) 54 days ago. May do better in handicaps. Improved RPR with each novice/maiden start and is drawn well in this nursery. |

7th (3) (11/1 +21%) Karl Carlston |
11/1(+21%) | (3) Karl Carlston 11/1, Winner at Chelmsford in October. Last of 5 on heavy at Haydock since but can fare better back on AW. Not easy to assess given the chalk and cheese of his last two efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (13) (15/2 +38%) Orchard |
15/2(+38%) | (13) Orchard 15/2, Lightly-raced maiden. Below form fourth of 11 in nursery (3/1) at Nottingham (8.3f, heavy) 14 days ago. Needs a couple of these to falter. Not sure returning to shorter will help him to bounce back here. |

9th (10) (8/1 +11%) Cashlyn Cavalier |
8/1(+11%) | (10) Cashlyn Cavalier 8/1, Fair maiden. Fourth of 5 in nursery (3/1) at Haydock (7f, heavy) 12 days ago. Close second at Musselburgh prior to that. Makes polytrack debut. Looks competitive on form. Beaten a short head when sent off 5-4 for nursery debut; disappointing on heavy since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (7/2 +42%) Notimeforchitchat |
7/2(+42%) | (6) Notimeforchitchat 7/2, Time Test colt who built on C&D debut promise to land a 1m course novice in August. Respectable start to his nursery career when fifth of 9 at Haydock last month and enters the reckoning back on AW having been eased another 2 lb. Course winner (did well to hold on) and nursery debut went okay; shortlisted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (11) (80/1 -142%) Rogue Endeavour |
80/1(-142%) | (11) Rogue Endeavour 80/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 50/1, last of 11 in nursery at this course (6f) 21 days ago. Needs to leave that well behind. Very hard to make a case for on what we've seen since debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (14) (80/1 -142%) Tequila Rose |
80/1(-142%) | (14) Tequila Rose 80/1, Winner at Brighton in May but has struggled since, finishing last of 8 in nursery at Epsom (7f, good to firm) 75 days ago. Something to find on form. Can only watch having undergone wind surgery since seemingly hating Epsom. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (12) (66/1 -65%) Miss Nifty |
66/1(-65%) | (12) Miss Nifty 66/1, Won on 6f Brighton debut in June but well below that level twice since. Another who can't be considered on what we've seen since debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Footwork was far from disgraced when he finished third on his nursery debut over C&D last time and he should mount a bold bid off a 1lb lower mark. However, the vote goes to ANGELICA BAY, who has filled the runner-up spot in each of her three starts in novice company and might be able to exploit an opening rating of 75. Reddeef completes the shortlist.
The drop back to 7f looks a good move for ENROLLED who is selected to make a successful nursery debut for the Fanshawe team. Notimeforchitchat, Reddeef and Cashlyn Cavalier head the many dangers in a competitive nursery.
James Fanshawe often brings his horses along slowly and ENROLLED is selected to make a winning nursery debut.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
FORLIO overcame a lengthy layoff when successful on his first outing for current connections over 1m3f at Limerick in May and has shown promise on a number of occasions since, often coming from well off the pace. The selection didn't enjoy much luck in running at Navan last week and the booking of Dylan Browne McMonagle adds to confidence. Picpoul has won twice over C&D and rates a threat having beaten all bar Church Mountain over an extended 1m2f here recently. Action Motion advertised his chance when a close fourth in first time blinkers at Thurles last time, while Glyde Ranger finished with a typical flourish when beaten less than two lengths here earlier this month.
FORLIO caught the eye in a race not run to suit at Navan last week and is clearly up to defying this sort of mark if things pan out a bit more favourably for him. Picpoul and Glyde Ranger head the opposition.
Runner-up over a slightly shorter trip here last time, PICPOUL can record a fourth course success for her locally-based trainer.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
BERMUDA LONGTAIL ran a debut full of promise when second over 6f at this venue earlier in the month and she is likely to take a big step forward from that display. With the prospect of more to come, she could prove tough to beat. Dash Of Azure has taken the silver medal home on each of her two starts to date and can pose the main threat, while Desert Spring needs to be monitored closely in the market on her debut.
DASH OF AZURE improved on her debut when runner-up at Yarmouth and, with this step back up in trip firmly in her favour, she takes preference over Bermuda Longtail, who started well here recently. Dancing Colours is the clear pick of the newcomers on paper.
Ralph Beckett has a line on Bermuda Longtail and his DASH OF AZURE is fancied to win at the third time of asking.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
OLIVIA JANE was beaten only a neck at Wolverhampton on debut despite failing to get a clear run. She looks assured to launch a serious challenge on that evidence and is marginally preferred to Choreographic. The latter was took a step forward here last time, when giving the strong impression this extra distance will suit, while Season Of Light will likely find this less competitive than her debut assignment at Newmarket and is one to note.
OLIVIA JANE made an excellent start to her career when runner-up at Wolverhampton 3 weeks ago and with the promise of more to come, she looks the way to go. Choreographic reacted well to blinkers here last time and is just the type her leading yard will draw further improvement from, while Season of Light will surely show more this time.
A chance is taken that Charlie Appleby's SEASON OF LIGHT will be seen to better effect on this quicker surface.

25/1(0%) | (10) Crow's Nest 25/1, 9/1, 8 lengths last of 6 to Mart in handicap at Brighton (6f, good) 59 days ago. Has had a breathing operation. Yet to hit top form in three runs for his current yard, last of six at Brighton latest. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Raffles Angel recorded a double when successful at Yarmouth last month and can feature once again returning to the all-weather. However, COUP DE FORCE looks a more likely candidate to land a hat-trick given Stuart Kittow's five-year-old scored over course and distance before winning a shade cosily at Southwell on her latest start. Stanley Spencer is progressing nicely and makes more appeal than Treacherous of the remainder.
COUP DE FORCE is building a strong record on artificial surfaces and should make a bold bid for the hat-trick. Improving 3-y-os Stanley Spencer and Raffles Angel head the dangers.
The vote goes to Rae Guest's upwardly mobile filly RAFFLES ANGEL who remains on a workable mark despite a 4lb rise for her Yarmouth win.

8th (1) (11/2 +15%) Appier |
11/2(+15%) | (1) Appier 11/2, Eight wins from 30 Flat runs. 5/1, creditable 1¾ lengths third of 7 to Damascus Steel in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f) 27 days ago, very slowly away. Ultra consistent but could be left poorly placed in a tactical affair. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
DAMASCUS STEEL tends to save his best for artificial surfaces and won here in August before a comfortable victory at Newcastle last time. The son of Mastercraftsman looks worth sticking with and can confirm latest form with third-placed Appier, despite a 3lb rise. The latter may well feature once again, although the less exposed Wiltshire Wonder looks a bigger threat with progression likely after winning at Southwell on his handicap debut.
Bumper winner WILTSHIRE WONDER overcame inexperience to score in good style on his handicap debut in this sphere at Southwell 3 weeks ago and can score again. Touch The Moon is interesting, while Rockit Tommy can continue to go well if starting on terms.
Stepping up to 1m4f and switching to AW could see TOUCH THE MOON leave his previous efforts in handicap company well behind.

8/1(-129%) | (7) South Dakota Sioux 8/1, Won 10-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (7.2f, 3/1) 39 days ago. Expected to be bang there from just 2 lb higher given that victory was from a career-low mark. Snapped lengthy losing sequence at Wolverhampton last month; a 2lb rise may prove lenient. |

25/1(-25%) | (10) Thunderous Love 25/1, Respectable fifth of 10 in handicap at Windsor (6f, heavy, 10/1) 16 days ago. The step back up to 7f is well worth a go and she's a possible player. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
MARCHETTI may have been expensive to follow of late but, as she has a good record at this venue and ran well for Alex Voikhansky when a game third at Bath most recently, this consistent mare is given another chance to return to winning ways. No News and Blue Collar Lad are closely matched judged by their encounter at Lingfield last month and, on the revised terms, could chase the selection home in that order.
SOUTH DAKOTA SIOUX cashed in on a career-low mark at Wolverhampton last month and with that in mind, a 2 lb rise should be well within his compass. Diamondsinthesand seems sure to give another good account, while Bungle Bay could go well at a price back at 7f.
The selection is BLUE COLLAR LAD (nap), who has done very well since joining Daniel Steele and can add to his Chelmsford win last month.

Purple Poppy ended a lengthy losing run in first-time blinkers when scoring over C&D a fortnight ago and she commands respect despite a 5lb higher mark. However, this could be a good time to catch the versatile SMASHER, who handles Polytrack and is worth chancing from just 2lb above his last winning mark on his first start after wind surgery. Art Fantastique and Vaunted complete the shortlist.
SEAS OF ELZAAM is becoming well handicapped so could be worth chancing after an eye-catching return over this C&D last month. Purple Poppy responded well to this headgear when scoring over C&D 2 weeks ago and is the obvious threat, with Smasher another to consider if ready to go.
Tom Ward's low-mileage 3yo ART FANTASTIQUE is taken to build on his good recent Windsor fourth and get off the mark for the season here

7th (5) (7/2 +42%) Home And Dry |
7/2(+42%) | (5) Home And Dry 7/2, Visored for 1st time, bit below form sixth of 13 in handicap at this C&D (5/2). Off 126 days. Not out of things. Twice ran okay over C&D in June; continues to edge down the weights; not discounted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (40/1 -100%) Lumberjack |
40/1(-100%) | (8) Lumberjack 40/1, 13/2, first run since leaving Barry Brennan when last of 8 in handicap at Wolverhampton (16.6f) 16 days ago. Cheekpieces on for 1st time. Makes limited appeal. 1 lb out of the weights. Fourth over C&D in August but well beaten the next twice and now 0-9. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Previous C&D winner BEGGARMAN is on a competitive rating and has plenty going for him at this trip, after finding winning elusive over 1m6f of late. Rob Honrby knows the selection well and it would be no surprise to see the partnership take this contest. Kissininthebackrow is noteworthy back on the Flat and could go well from a handy mark. Trojan Truth and Grey Fox are other key players.
Preference is for KISSININTHEBACKROW, who has proved consistent on the Flat this summer and remains feasibly treated. Beggarman and Grey Fox are also of interest.
The return to Kempton could be a major positive for SOPHAR SOGOOD and he earns the vote ahead of Kissininthebackrow.
Ths is the racecard key.
