This is likely to be an informative contest and it would be no surprise to see the likes of Red Sand, Siegen and The Flying Seagull all build on their debut efforts and warrant close inspection in the betting. However, ORIGINAL OUTLAW, whose dam is a half-sister to the top-level winners Without Parole and Tamarkuz, has a striking pedigree and the son of Wootton Bassett is suggested as the first one to consider.

Preference is for THE FLYING SEAGULL, who met some trouble when a pleasing third on debut at Chester earlier this month and will have learnt plenty from that outing. Red Sand is feared most of those with experience, whilst Original Outlaw may be the pick of the newcomers.

It looks quite tight among the form horses. ORIGINAL OUTLAW and Berkshire Kameo are interesting newcomers.

MINERS GAMBLE took a step back in the right direction when runner-up over 7f here and although comfortably put in her place, the winner has since numbered Mysteryofthesands among her victims when going in again at Beverley. Brian Ellison's gelding is just preferred to Hello Cotai, who also arrives on the back of a second placing and won't need the application of blinkers to prompt too much improvement. Lady Ava ended 2023 on a high by getting off the mark on soft ground at Catterick, while more is anticipated from Questionable now she goes handicapping.

Upped in trip, HELLO COTAI ran his best race when beaten only a neck at Goodwood earlier this month and he could be ready to go one better with blinkers on first time. Miners Gamble is bred to be suited by this longer distance and is feared most after his good second here last time, while Lady Ava is another to note on her return.

Having gone close on heavy ground at Goodwood three weeks ago, HELLO COTAI (nap) is taken to go one better and get off the mark.

HEARITFORTHEBOYS showed his appreciation for the return to turf when accounting for a couple of in-form opponents at Windsor, and the recent rain is in his favour. Revenue was well behind him in fifth, but has improved since to occupy the runner-up berth at Salisbury. Profit Street went agonisingly close on his comeback at Newcastle and is a player again off 4lb higher, while Ottoman Force has blinkers fitted after a decent Doncaster display. Ten Club's Brighton no-show means he has something to prove now.

A winner on nursery debut at Newcastle in November, PROFIT STREET improved further when just touched off on his return at that venue 3 weeks ago, challenging on flank/from much further back than the one who beat him. He could do better again and edges the vote ahead of Windsor-scorer Hearitfortheboys. Dark Fandango shouldn't be written off just yet, and along with Gogo Yubari, completes the shortlist.

Nigel Tinkler's PROFIT STREET posted a career-best effort at Newcastle last time, so could make the long journey south a fruitful one.

MANXMAN, who rounded off last season with a four-timer, almost picked up where he left off when a narrow runner-up over 1m6f on his seasonal debut here three weeks ago. Stepping back up in trip is an ideal move and the Crisford's consistent gelding and can go one better, with a 1lb higher mark unlikely to cause too many issues. Yorkindness, Maxident and Robert Johnson are other serious contenders for the shortlist.

With William Buick booked HAVAILA makes plenty of appeal on his second start for the yard responsible for two of the last four winners of this race. He had two of these rivals (Maxident and Plus Point) behind when going close over C&D last time and a 2 lb nudge for that near miss is fair enough. Temporize enjoyed his finest hour to date here last summer and he has to enter calculations, while Manxman and Pledgeofallegiance are others to consider.

This looks competitive, though soft ground would probably dent a few hopes. MANXMAN moving back up in trip may hold the strongest hand.

Even though the winner has since performed well in Listed company, Shemozzle's costly defeat over C&D leaves a bitter taste and she will do well to successfully concede weight all round. A chance is taken on the fitness of MIZUUMI. Marco Botti's filly accounted for a couple of subsequent winners on her Kempton introduction and, given time to strengthen up further, she appears to have a bright future. Thewind Cries Mary is another to bear in mind.

MIZUUMI overcame inexperience to make a winning debut at Kempton in December and looks sure to improve, so is the way to go. Shemozzle retains potential, while there is more to come from Thewind Cries Mary.

Another chance is given to SHEMOZZLE, who has a point to prove after flopping when odds-on here last month. Mizuumi is next best.

Binadham has to concede weight all round after making the best possible to start to his career at Yarmouth, while Bolo Neighs had Sir Palamedes a couple of positions behind him when runner-up at the same venue on debut. They come up against some interesting newcomers, though, with Redorange and Mukaber costing 120,000gns and 115,000gns respectively. However, AESTERIUS made more than twice that price at the breeze-ups recently so should be ready to go.

Connections went to £380,000 to acquire AESTERIUS, and representing a yard with an excellent record with juvenile newcomers, he's selected to make a winning start. Binadham was quite impressive at Yarmouth and will make a bold bid at defying a penalty, with Bolo Neighs a very likely improver.

Emporess might prove best of those to have run but there are some interesting newcomers on show. REDORANGE is preferred.

Charlie Johnston sent out the winner of this race last year and can repeat the feat with the progressive TRUE WISDOM, whose second-placed finish over 1m3f on her seasonal debut at Kempton last month was a strong hint of more to come. Ya Hafhd was also a promising runner-up on her seasonal bow at Doncaster last month and is another key player. Avon Light and Mallavelly are other solid options to consider.

JUANA INES shaped nicely on debut for her new yard at Ascot in October and appeals as the type to do well in staying handicaps this year. She gets the nod. True Wisdom and Ya Hafhd head the list of dangers.

Preference is for TRUE WISDOM (nap), who looks well handicapped on her 2yo win. Ya Hafhd is second choice.

Yaroogh is fully expected to come on from his debut in a hot Newmarket novice, but the performance inspired little confidence so it's best to look to the newcomers. CHELSEA EMBANKMENT's price rose to 92,000gns as a yearling and he is a half-brother to a string of winners, so he could be worth chancing. Green Storm is another well-related debutant to consider, while Moon Sniper is out of a half-sister to Group 1 winners Persuasive and Creative Force so is worth a second look.

This can go to a newcomer, with CHELSEA EMBANKMENT preferred to Seagulls Eleven before market clues. Yaroogh will surely show more this time.

Tom Dascombe has some useful 2yos this year and preference is for the newcomer APHRODITES ROCK, a half-sister to two winners.

Symbol of Hope is a familiar face at Bath, although his recent fourth here over 5f did little to alter the belief that this trip stretches him slightly. Media Guest had been racing over further until going close when dropped to this distance at Brighton. He has every chance off the same mark, but MIDNIGHT FLAME has made the frame on each of her last four appearances and surely a breakthrough triumph is imminent.

Lots with chances. MEDIA GUEST is a long time without a win but arrives on the back of a very good recent Brighton second so edges the vote off an unchanged mark. Midnight Flame is weighted to go close and next on the list ahead of course-scorers More Than Likely and Symbol of Hope.

Symbol Of Hope looks set to go well but this may be the day for MIDNIGHT FLAME to finally shed her maiden tag.

It was only three runs ago when MUJTABA was touched off in the Group 2 Huxley Stakes and although disappointing since, he may improve for both dropping in class and the fitting of blinkers. Passion And Glory won his only previous visit here and warrants respect, while Claymore is also capable of landing a blow at this level. Obviously, Royal Rhyme would come right into the equation if running here instead of in Thursday night's Brigadier Gerard at Sandown.

ISLE OF JURA got on a real roll in Bahrain over the winter and is taken to go in again on his return to Britain. Sea of Roses ran well in a course listed race here last time and should go well again, while Royal Rhyme, so impressive in a C&D handicap at last year's Glorious meeting, would be a major player if showing up here rather than Sandown.

The two suggestions against the field are the useful fillies SEA OF ROSES (narrowly preferred) and Empress Wu.

A contest in which the market is likely to prove a good indicator, though a chance can be taken on EARTHY. Earthlight has made a bright start to his stallion career, and Amy Murphy's filly, who is related to five separate winners, looks a likely type on her racecourse bow. Karl Burke's juveniles have once again come out firing, so it would come as no surprise to see Toomuchforme go well, while others to note include Loch Leven, Stage Effect and John's Dragon.

The newcomers are likely to dominate with Karl Burke's TOOMUCHFORME looking the standout before market clues. John's Dragon and Loch Leven are other likely types.

The attractively bred LOCH LEVEN earns the vote for Ollie Sangster, with fellow newcomer Toomuchforme next on the list.

MALHAM TARN COVE posted a much-improved performance when finishing second over C&D recently. The five-year-old is effectively 2lb well-in on this quick turnaround and compensation could await. The biggest threat may emerge from Bama Lama, who returned to form with a close-up third at Windsor earlier this month, while Liosa caught the eye having endured a rough passage at Wolverhampton last month and he cannot be ruled out either.

LIOSA enjoyed no luck in running when fourth at Wolverhampton on his return so is fancied to quickly resume winning ways. Malham Tarn Cove is feared most on the back of his good C&D second while Bama Lama and Vitalline appeal as the pick of the rest for minor honours.

A weak contest and in the hope that he acts on the forecast slow surface, the improving LIOSA looks the one to be with.

WILD TIGER has an attractive, unexposed profile and could give weight and a beating to these rivals. He improved for the application of cheekpieces (worn again here) when scoring comfortably at Yarmouth and looks capable of defying a 7lb rise. Recent win and placed efforts show Street Kid to be arriving in excellent form and he is the biggest threat, while Smoky Mountain can't be dismissed dropped in both trip and class after finishing down the field at Wolverhampton.

Fit from a couple of in-the-frame efforts in Meydan, WILD TIGER marked himself down as one to keep onside when running out a ready winner at Yarmouth (7f) 3 weeks ago and, operating from a handy draw, he looks capable of making his mark in this stronger company. Street Kid is a likeable sort and holds claims along with another low-mileage 4-y-o in the shape of Be Frank. Toimy Son also needs keeping an eye on.

With further progress likely, WILD TIGER could well defy a 7lb rise for his clearcut Yarmouth win. Be Frank is second choice.

Others might be open to more improvement, but this looks to be an excellent opportunity for AZURE BLUE, whose stable have hit a real purple patch of late. Michael Dods' mare was far from disgraced in the Duke Of York on her reappearance nine days ago, and has upwards of 14lb in hand on official ratings. Electric Storm hit the woodwork in a similar contest at Bath last month and might prove to be the main danger, although Got To Love A Grey and Queen Of Zafeen must enter calculations too.

AZURE BLUE possesses much the best form on show and teed herself up well for this when a recent seventh in the Duke of York after an absence so is impossible to oppose. Queen of Zafeen (second choice) and Electric Storm both have better days ahead of them and appeal as the two to chase home Michael Dods' smart mare.

The expected testing ground is an unknown for clear form pick Azure Blue, and a chance is taken on the unexposed MIDREAM.

Starproof warrants respect after her fifth-placed effort in a 26-runner affair at Ascot earlier this month. The daughter of Camacho is feared most, ahead of fellow in-form rival Connie's Rose.

CINQUE VERDE exploited a lower mark on turf when scoring at Lingfield last week and still looks feasibly treated under a 5 lb penalty. She can go in again. Starproof and Connie's Rose should also go well.

Cinque Verde is the one to beat but STARPROOF's reappearance was most encouraging and she could have more to offer this year.

Zain Blue hit the woodwork on his handicap bow a fortnight ago and he is a player from an unchanged mark, along with the in-form Mr Baloo.

A deserved first taste of success beckons for ZAIN BLUE, who made a very promising start in handicap company at Ascot a fortnight ago. Aragon Castle is feared on the back of his solid Haydock effort and he is second choice ahead of likely improver Queen's Reign and recent Nottingham winner Rukaana.

An opening mark of 82 looks manageable for interesting handicap debutant MR MONACO. Second choice is Zain Blue.

BARTON KEY didn't get a straightforward passage when showing promise on debut and might reverse form with New Theory, who was fifth. That form looks quite strong, with the runner-up scoring subsequently, and the selection merits plenty of respect. No Such Thing, whose dam was a winning juvenile, was a 50,000 euros yearling and concedes plenty weight, while Fairhaven is out of a Group 3 winner and is a half-sister to a Listed scorer but similarly has a lot of weight to carry. Gazelle D'or and Gloriously Glam have each shown ability and can progress.

NEW THEORY is worth another chance to confirm debut promise back up in trip. Gazelle d'Or exceeded expectations when second at Naas and must be respected, while No Such Thing looks the pick of the newcomers before market clues.

PEARL EYE is versatile regarding ground preference and, having started the current campaign with a win and a respectable fourth-placed finish at Pontefract and Chester respectively, the four-year-old has a lot going for him here. Never Ending and Arkendale appeal most from the remainder with a recent run under their belts, but Doha is a filly on the upgrade and is a key player on her handicap debut off a workable mark.

The impeccably bred DOHA made no mistake when confirming her debut promise at the second attempt when running out an emphatic winner of a Windsor maiden in the autumn. Every inch a useful prospect, she starts life in handicaps from what looks a good mark and earns the vote back up in trip. Arkendale leaves the impression he has more to offer and he's feared. Never Ending and Pearl Eye can also feature.

The very lightly 4yo DOHA has a prestigious pedigree and was impressive in a maiden at Windsor last October.

Bittalemon should have learned plenty from her opening bid when finishing sixth at Newbury last month and William Haggas' filly must enter calculations. However, LOVE YOU DARLING, a half-sister to 1m2f Group 3 winner American Sonja, makes slightly more appeal. The daughter of Land Force finished a close-up second over a mile on her reappearance at Goodwood earlier this month and this step up in distance could unlock more improvement. The downgraded Divine Presence is also noted.

BITTALEMON made an encouraging start to her career at Newbury last month and should have learnt plenty from that experience. She can get off the mark. Love You Darling and Divine Presence look the likeliest dangers.

She's taking a little time to get the hang of things but with her sights slightly lowered, bDIVINE PRESENCE\p is taken to come good.

STEP OUT had shown some promise in bumpers prior to running well on his hurdling debut over C&D recently. A half-brother to two capable winners, he has point-to-point experience and dropped down from an Aintree Grade 2 bumper when shaping well over hurdles recently. He is well suited by today's conditions. Point-to-point winner Big Stage also has course form on good ground and while thoroughly consistent, dropping in distance isn't ideal for him. Dual point winner and bumper victor Eco Pete carries a penalty and while he shouldered top weight when running well in a C&D maiden in April, is nonetheless an eight-race maiden over hurdles.

Not so competitive as the numbers suggest and BIG STAGE looks very much the way to go on the back of his promising recent second here. Both Step Out and Point Gellibran have better days ahead of them and can chase home Gordon Elliott's useful sort in that order.

Just denied over C&D on hurdling debut last time, STEP OUT can go one better with improvement to come.

Last year's 1-2-3, Angle Land, Lihou and Dream Composer are all much lower in the ratings this time around and it would be folly to rule any of them out with that in mind, but it is FAIR WIND that shades preference. Owen Burrows' unexposed four-year-old signed off last season with a comfortable Windsor victory and he returned with a pleasing second at Ascot 23 days ago. The winner franked that form when finishing second in a warm Newmarket handicap next time, and he is taken to go one better off 2lb higher.

A case can be made for a few of these but Eve Johnson Houghton's BISHOP'S CROWN still looks to have more to offer, especially now dropped to 5f for the first time, and gets the nod. Spring Bloom is weighted to go close and heads the list of dangers, although Fair Wind, Angle Land and Night On Earth all need factoring into this very competitive sprint too.

Fair Wind isn't fully exposed but DREAM COMPOSER should find this being run to suit and is in better form than his figures suggest.

Unplaced at Listed level last September, she has finished second to three capable Ballydoyle horses in maidens and can could go well once again. Ebanza threw away victory by hanging left at Gowran and she drops a furlong in distance. Emerald Banner is rated 85 and is well suited by this distance, but carried a first-time tongue-tie when beaten at Cork and now cheekpieces are also applied.

Plenty to consider with the form pick APRICOT ICE bound to be in the mix again down in trip. Emerald Banner and Ebanza head the dangers.

Preference is for EMERALD BANNER who was only just touched off on return and cheekpieces may help her get her head in front

The Fergal O'Brien-trained gelding should put his experience to good use and he may be able to fend off hurdles/stable debutant Jo's Rainbow, who is of a similar ability to the selection on the level and could go close if taking to this discipline for leading connections. Jumeirah King may chase the duo home.

The return to a right-handed track will suit GLOBAL ESTEEM given he jumped that way at Plumpton and this looks a good opportunity for him to get off the mark in this sphere. Jo's Rainbow receives all of the allowances on stable/hurdles debut and is a huge threat if taking to it.

The most persuasive option is GLOBAL ESTEEM, who was well clear of the others when second to a well-backed winner at Plumpton recently.

Amancio wasn't showing any signs of stopping when he made all over a mile here last month and is a solid option with Rose Dawes retaining the ride. However, a 5lb higher mark combined with the additional stamina demands make for a stiffer test. With that in mind, the vote goes to ROGUE RAIDER, who already has C&D experience and is open to any amount of progression on just his second start for Peter Chapple-Hyam. Handicap debutant Corrales is another to consider.

Rose Dawes got a good tune out of AMANCIO here last month and, with this step up in trip unlikely to be an issue, he is taken to go in again. Rogue Raider made a positive start for this yard over C&D and he is next best, ahead of Corrales on handicap debut.

There are a couple of interesting handicap newcomers, headed by CORRALES whose pedigree suggests he'll be suited by the longer trip.

Despite going off at 66/1, there looked to be no fluke about FLAME OF KODIAC's comfortable victory over a mile at Chepstow earlier this month, and she gets the vote to successfully defy a 5lb penalty stepping up in trip in what looks a winnable affair. City Escape arrives on the back of a solid fourth over C&D most recently and she cannot be discounted off the same mark, while fellow last-time-out winner Carey Street is also of interest, though a 4lb higher mark asks a question of him.

CAREY STREET returned to winning ways when making all at Wolverhampton in January and, from what remains a workable mark, he can pick up where he left off to make a successful stable debut. Flame of Kodiac also remains well treated on old form and isn't taken lightly, with Galactic Glow completing the shortlist as he bids for a fourth C&D victory.

Flame Of Kodiac surprised most by winning at Chepstow. However, the suggestion is CAREY STREET on first start for Tony Carroll.

She is no star but is well suited by this distance on a sound surface, and faces a lesser task rated 102 than when finishing a sound third at Tipperary recently. Hidden Land ran well here over a similar distance recently and is also suited by a sound surface. A dual hurdle winner from 16 runs, she was probably unsuited by testing ground last winter but bounced back to form on good ground recently. Justicialism similarly bounced back to form when also running well here earlier in the month and while that run was over 2m6f, he has winning form at similar distances, albeit in 2022.

JUSTICIALISM ran well in refitted blinkers here last time and might be the way to go if the headgear continues to have a positive effect. Hidden Land is another who is much respected on the back of a recent good effort at this venue. Gordon Elliott won this race last year and his handicap newcomer Lucky Storm completes the shortlist.

A chance is taken on BALTINGLASS HILL who ran a solid race at Ballinrobe last time and can improve from that.

DANCE NIGHT ANDDAY showed improved form on her return to 6f when winning at Naas and might defy an 8lb rise. Well suited by good ground, she met some traffic two furlongs out that day but finished strongly and won snugly. Transcendental won over five furlongs at Navan last month but is also effective over six and, while raised 7lb, was initially rated 83 when arriving in Ireland in 2022. Back Down Under might appreciate stepping back up in distance, having finishing second in the Birdcatcher last October.

DANCE NIGHT ANDDAY was progressive on the whole last season and produced a career best when making a winning return at Naas 2 weeks ago so remains of plenty of interest. Transcendental also make a winning return when beating 20 rivals at Navan and is next best ahead of Screen Siren.

The biggest threat may be posed by recent Kempton scorer Halifax, who has possibly been let in lightly racing off only 4lb higher in the ratings. C&D runner-up Behind The Curtain is also likely to be in the shake-up.

MACTAVISH picked up where he left off from the winter when finding only an improving type too strong at Ludlow 12 days ago, so he looks to hold major claims of landing a third course success. He is preferred to Halifax, who can remain competitive after his recent win at Kempton, with Behind The Curtain also in the mix.

Dual course winner MACTAVISH returned from a break with a pleasing effort 12 days ago and may still have potential over staying trips.

THAT'S ABOUT RIGHT is a 10-race maiden but contests a race designed for exposed handicappers, with the top-weight rated only 89. He has run some useful races in defeat, wasn't beaten far at Punchestown in January, and should benefit from a recent reappearance run at Naas. Aliunde was reported by his rider to have burst a blood vessel when last seen at Down Royal in December but the on-course vet couldn't confirm that report, instead stating he had a wound on his right fore limb. He returns from a break reverting to hurdles but ran well in a C&D handicap in April 2023. Paddy Elvis ran well at Down Royal in April but was well held twice since.

PADDY ELVIS reverts to handicap company on an attractive mark having posted a very good C&D novice fifth last time out so gets the vote. Aliunde rates the chief danger back in this sphere, although That's About Right didn't enjoy the rub of the green when seventh at Naas and have can have a say too.

RACING DEMON lost all winning chance in the starting stalls on his penultimate start before bolting up over C&D last week and, judging by the ease of that win, it would be no surprise to see him bring up the double under a 5lb penalty. Lunario fared best of those ridden patiently when finishing an excellent second over an extended mile at Nottingham most recently, and he could be the chief beneficiary if the selection fluffs his lines. Rival was last seen finishing third over C&D and he has solid claims of hitting the frame once again.

EYE OF THE WATER was disappointing at Chepstow 10 days ago but his record at Bath is an excellent one so, returned to this venue, he makes as much appeal as any of these. Lunario arrives at the top of his game so he has to go on the shortlist, while the quirky Racing Demon is dangerous if he's in the same mood as last time.

The Easterby's have a good recent record in this race and their Shimmering Sands, who was a close third in last year's renewal off 4lb lower, commands respect on his first start back after wind surgery. Nevertheless, this could revolve around Do I Dream and HARSWELL DUKE, who were the first two across the line in a C&D handicap last month. The former shaded that race by a neck but Harswell Duke went close again at Wetherby last time, whereas Do I Dream was a comfortably-held third, and looks capable of reversing the form.

A chance is taken on unexposed Hugo Palmer handicap newcomer RUNNING STAR, whose mark looks very workable judged on the pick of his form in AW novices last autumn. Harswell Duke arrives in good form and is second choice ahead of C&D specialist Do I Dream. Shimmering Sea was placed in this race on his 2023 reappearance and is another to consider in a competitive opener.

The suggestion is GLOBAL SPIRIT whose recent defeats are readily forgiven and who has good form here off higher marks.

GALEN chased home top juvenile City Of Troy on their respective debuts over course and distance last July and makes his return possessing notable St James's Palace Stakes and Irish Derby entries. He shaped really well that day and while the other beaten horses haven't as yet shown any star qualities, the well-held third and fifth have scored subsequently. Kortez Bay is a reliable 85-rated performer but could find the selection too strong, while Super Sox has also shown plenty ability but also needs to improve to win. Balyan is a newcomer to note.

GALEN shaped with plenty of promise (only one to make up any ground from off the pace) when finishing runner-up to City of Troy in a C&D maiden on debut 10 months ago and, sure to improve, he gets the nod to make a winning return. Kortez Bay is firmly knocking on the door and is a lead threat, along with Super Sox who also promises to do better again.

Matt Sheppard's gelding often gives his best at this venue and a fourth career victory could beckon. A first-time hood might enable an improved bid from Man Of Light.

TONTO FOLEY was well suited by positive tactics when opening his chase account in good style at Taunton in March, going with plenty of zest/jumping boldly. Open to further progress from a low base, he earns the vote to follow up. Famoso continues in form and is respected, with Big Jim Beam also one to note on belated return/chase debut with the Warren Greatrex yard amongst the winners.

There could still be a lot more to come from low-mileage 6yo TONTO FOLEY (nap), who jumped well when winning at Taunton in March.

A chance is taken that DGALWAYGALLIVANTOR can improve from his recent chase debut and turn Wexford form with Warm In Gorey. He progressed nicely over hurdles, ran well at Gowran in March (from which three subsequent winners emerged), and while well beaten at Wexford, finished reasonably well and should improve from that experience. Warm In Gorey is rated 104 so has obvious claims, but has won just once from 18 career runs. Dual hurdles winner Ceanndana has chase experience and was reported to have struggled on the ground when pulling up at Killarney in October. He returns from a winter break and should run well.

Not a strong race so a reproduction of WARM IN GOREY's fifth-place finish in novice company last week may well suffice. Erigmoor has a bigger performance in him over fences so is second choice, ahead of Ceanndana on his return to action.

With the benefit of three beginners' chase starts under his girth, WARM IN GOREY can get off the mark today.

Success at this level could set up and intriguing campaign for the daughter of Kodiac and she looks a bright prospect, while Esprit Queen is an interesting newcomer.

ENCHANTED LIFE looked a useful prospect when making a winning start at Kempton in October and shades the vote over fellow penalised winner Love Wars, who overcame notable inexperience at Thirsk a year ago but has been off since. Esprit Queen has a nice profile so is a newcomer to note.

Kempton winner Enchanted Life is not opposed lightly but ESPRIT QUEEN is bred to be smart and she's worth chancing.

Benavente is himself a capable all-weather performer and also reverts to turf. He can be forgiven some of his early career runs on unsuitably soft ground and being race-fit is a positive. Expressova is progressing well and won in a first-time hood last month, although is now 8lb higher.

EXPRESSOVA showed improved form when making a winning return/yard debut at Gowran 4 weeks ago and the manner of that success suggests an 8 lb rise in the weights may not prevent Joseph O'Brien's filly going close again. Pier Pressure, and Verhoyen, who has landed the last 2 renewals of this race, are feared. Pinar del Rio and Blanc de Noir complete the shortlist.

Recent Ffos Las runner-up Triple Nickle cannot be ruled out either.

AL SAYAH has the potential to build on her Fontwell handicap hurdle debut success and can make light of a 5 lb rise. Recent Ffos Las runner-up Triple Nickle may give her most to do ahead of Ryder's Rock, who promises to be suited by the step back up in trip. Dan Skelton's Cher Tara would also firmly enter the reckoning if turning up here rather than Market Rasen on Thursday.

GRAGEEN is a lightly-raced eight-year-old, has been running consistently well this year, and contests a winnable race. A dual point-to-point winner, he raced just once in both 2022 and 2023 but has appeared more regularly this year and a reproduction of his recent runs in useful winners' races would give him every chance. Howya Luveen is herself a dual point winner and while she too is in-form, steps up in grade and might find the selection too strong. Sheephaven Flyer finished third when rated 93 in a course handicap hurdle last May and while generally exposed, the winner of his recent April Dromahane point-to-point was subsequently bumper-placed.

NEVERMINDESTRANGER was bang there when unseated his rider 2 out in this race a year ago and while he was disappointing when last seen here, he could be worth chancing in a trappy contest. Big Girl Betty is likely to give it a good go, while it will be interesting what the market makes of Sheephaven Flyer.

GORDON GREY arrives on the back of some good runner-up efforts and perhaps this can finally be his day. Last month's Catterick runner-up Joie de Vivre may provide the chief threat ahead of Unplugged, who has tasted success here before, including on reappearance.

KAYHANA is likely to have been readied for this initial starting point all winter. A debut winner last June and well suited by good ground, she ran well in a similar handicap on Champions Weekend last September, with today's distance likely to suit better. Karsavina debuts for new connections having been bought for 110,000gns last October and had useful form when trained in the UK and, briefly, in France. She contested last year's 1000 Guineas and having been beaten on her recent runs, including twice in France last December, has been dropped 2lb. Chazzesmee's best results have been achieved on easy ground, including a Lincoln win in March, but he was placed in a big handicap on good ground last July.

Typically competitive fare with the narrow vote in favour of CASANOVA. His losing run understandably tempers enthusiasm but he went agonisingly close to bucking that trend from his much-reduced mark when third over C&D 5 weeks ago and this could be the day he puts it all together again. Blues Emperor seemingly wasn't 100% in the Lincoln in March and he can bounce back. Chazzesmee and Shayzann are others to note.

The lighly raced STATE ACTOR could be the way to go after his recent C&D maiden success and that form is already working out

MULBERRY HILL had possible excuses since beating a classy yardstick at Kempton in November so is worth another chance back in this sphere. The drop back in trip should suit Riskintheground so he rates the main threat for the Skeltons.

Mulberry Hill will be dangerous if back on song but preference is for consistent 7yo HARDY BOY, who has conditions to suit.

He is closely matched with Vaucelet on past and recent form and being a dour and somewhat enigmatic stayer, this C&D plays ideally to his strengths. Vaucelet is himself a capable hunter but this season's form has been below his best. Shiroccosmagicgem wasn't beaten far in a useful race at Killarney and steps up to this distance for the first time, while Private Ryan steps up from winning the less competitive Bishopscourt Cup at the Punchestown Festival.

BILLAWAY was narrowly behind Vaucelet at Punchestown but is taken to turn the tables on David Christie's charge and land this race for the second year running. Recent Killarney third Shiroccosmagicgem may prove best of the remainder.

He is probably beginning to decline but BILLAWAY is still the one to beat here and can confirm last year's placings with Vaucelet

Expensive Rose and Praetorian make appeal on paper and should be monitored closely in the betting market ahead of their respective debuts, though Eighteen Fourteen has already proven his ability to handle this track and might be the main danger.

This could go to a newcomer, with PRAETORIAN and Expensive Rose both looking likely types. I Need Your Love hinted at ability in what was probably a decent novice at York and may prove the pick of those with experience.

Eighteen Fourteen ran well here on his debut but UNDER THE SEA may have achieved just as much on his first run in France.

The lightly-raced Coeur d'Or broke his maiden tag as a six-year-old at Laytown but finally came good last year and while he is a capable performer in big handicaps, dropping to this distance isn't ideal. Lady Tilbury debuts for new connections having been bought for 150,000gns last December. She has done most of her racing over five furlongs and, stepping up in trip and running in a first-time tongue-tie, is a notable contender.

It could be worth chancing HEAVENLY POWER, who performed well here on several occasions last season and he is entitled to come on for his C&D reappearance spin. Dandyville is feared most ahead of the selection's stablemate Jon Riggens and Laugh A Minute.

Jaxonne would be a big player if turned out quickly again after not quite getting home when third over 2m4f at Southwell on Wednesday evening.

CAPTAIN ATTRIDGE got off the mark with a bit to spare here recently and could follow up after a 5 lb rise. No More Bolero is interesting, while Jaxonne would have been the obvious selection but for a tame finish at Southwell on Wednesday.

He has not yet shown a great deal over hurdles but NO MORE BOLERO was a very talented Flat-racer when based in Germany.

BIGCITYLIGHTS represents leading connections and finished fifth in a useful Tattersalls Farm point-to-point when last seen in December. He unseated rider on his November debut but showed nice ability the following month, with each of the horses who defeated him showing up well subsequently, including the winner landing a subsequent bumper. The locally-trained Myleno has progressed with age and won two recent point-to-points. He easily won a winners-of-three point-to-point just six days ago and while making a quick reappearance isn't ideal, is suited by good ground. Chef's Kiss won a coveted four-year-old point-to-point maiden in March, but failed to sell at 28,000 pounds the following month and debuts for new connections in a first-time tongue-tie.

With little worthwhile Rules form to go on, the market will help assess these but MYLENO arrives in excellent heart from the pointing field so receives the tentative vote. Chef's Kiss also won last time between the flags, with Bigcitylights another to note given the yard he represents.

An open event in which only a tentative vote can go to Charlie Johnston's LOVE WARRIOR. The Saxon Warrior colt struggled at Newmarket last time but this is significantly less taxing and, from 3lb lower, it would come as no surprise were he to step forward. Minstrel Knight looks set to relish a step up in trip having looked outpaced over the mile at Haydock last month, while Spanish Vega, who paid the price late on at Yarmouth after racing out wide for much of the contest, can figure too.

Having shaped well on his reappearance at Windsor, SAVVY WARRIOR gets the nod in the hope that this step up in trip works in his favour. Minstrel Knight will almost certainly be suited by this stiffer test and is likely to be on the premises, while Fiftyshadesaresdev and Love Warrior also enter calculations.

GLOBAL ENERGY has been running well recently and while much of his best form is on an easy surface, he ran well on good ground last time at Leopardstown. He has dropped back in distance in recent times and having won on heavy over a mile in March, has competed well twice subsequently, suggesting he should again get involved at the business end. Ferrybank has also done well in recent months and while much of that form was on the all-weather, he reverted to turf when also running well at Leopardstown last week. He is 3lb higher but should again prove competitive. Karlsberg can cope with a 7lb hike for winning at Cork last month, but needs soft ground.

The vote goes to PASSIONATE, who opened her account in good style at Killarney recently and a 13 lb rise may not be enought to prevent her from going in again. Karlsberg got his head back in front at Cork and looks set for another prominent showing, while the in-form Ferrybank is also shortlisted, along with Brains.

DICKIEBURD appeared to relish a return to the turf when filling the runner-up spot at Nottingham earlier this month and the son of Cracksman could go one better from an unchanged mark. Princess Karine, who bolted up on her only previous visit here, must be taken seriously despite being higher in the ratings. Ventura Express has a decent record when fresh, however, and he is feared most.

It's probably best not to judge PRINCESS KARINE too harshly on her latest effort at Ripon and she looked on very good terms with herself when scoring over this C&D previously. The Bryan Smart-trained mare is taken to regain the winning thread, perhaps at the chief expense of Dickieburd, who should be in the mix. Milbanke is third choice.

Princess Karine's penultimate run gives her strong claims but last year's winner VENTURA EXPRESS (nap) may be able to repeat.
