ARDISIA has a couple of significant early-closing entries and can boost his chances of being a acceptor if he copes with the penalty imposed for his debut success at Musselburgh 12 days ago. The manner in which the son of Ardad won that race suggests the 7lb burden is very manageable at this stage. Tamather met all sorts of trouble on his racecourse bow but should be wiser for the experience. Supreme Dancer and Awraad, whose yard won last year's sole division of this race, are the most notable debutants.

Hugo Palmer's ARDISIA looked a good prospect when winning at Musselburgh and may well be able to defy a penalty.

THAT ONE is going the right way and looks worth sticking with. He made a winning handicap debut before going close over C&D last month and there should be more to come from James Walton's charge, especially now back in novice company. Young Getaway landed a maiden hurdle at Newcastle in good style and will likely prove competitive again. He is put forward as the primary threat, just ahead of Blackwater Lilly and Just Oot.

HABERDASH and Dacres Cross are a pair of newcomers who should be forward enough to have a immediate impact. The former is a half-brother to a winning sprinter and debuts for a yard that is very capable of having one ready at the first time of asking. Similar comments apply to Dacres Cross, who cost 35,000 pounds and is from the extended family of Abbaye winner Avonbridge. The betting should be informative, however, and the likes of Under The Radar and Bravo Hotel are others to keep an eye on.

The market should be highly informative but at this stage the vote goes to DACRES CROSS, who has plenty of speed in his good pedigree.

KIDMAN faced a tougher assignment at Kelso last time and will likely prove more at home in this grade. A respectable fourth at Newcastle in January on his first start over fences, he will be hard to keep out of the finish with a similar effort. Backbyjet is not badly treated off his current mark on the evidence of his victory over 2m4f here last autumn, while the veteran Fostered Phil returns to the larger obstacles with a shout.

This could go the way of KIDMAN, who can build on the promise of his two previous chasing starts to gain his breakthrough victory here

RUMBA BAY is highly notable back on turf off just 3lb higher than for her narrow success at Wolverhampton last month. The daughter of Havana Grey appears to be thriving at present and gets the vote to continue in a similar vein. Ballsgrove Boy has been knocking on the door recently and is one to note along with City Captain, who has been gelded since his fourth at Chelmsford in September.

The vote goes to RUMBA BAY, who made it 2-4 for David Evans when justifying favouritism at Wolverhampton last month.

Tim Easterby's progressive juvenile may not have finished winning yet and is taken to defy a 10lb penalty. Popa Rich rates the main threat based on his decent third of three at Market Rasen, given the runner-up has subsequently boosted the form. Bohemond Antioch may prove best of the remainder.

However, QITAAL finished a close-up third at Doncaster on his return to action last month and is fancied to take full advantage of an unchanged mark. Jim Crowley is two from two on Siempre Arturo so he is another to note.

Preference is for QITAAL, who was as good as ever when a close third on his Doncaster reappearance. Calumet is feared most.

Having backed up a cosy triumph at Newcastle with a game all-the-way success over C&D last month, a new mark of just 79 looks highly workable for the Maurice Barnes-trained gelding. Fellow last-time-out track-and-trip winner Gibberwell is another must for consideration, despite running off 9lb higher. Thatsy and You Say Its Over make each-way appeal.

Arkenstaar lurks on an appealing mark and provided he is ready to go on his return, he ought to have a say. Chuzzlewit completes the shortlist.

Partisan Hero is respected but CHUZZLEWIT has been plying his trade in better company and is tempting off a career-low mark.

A close second over fences here last month, HALPHA SOLEIL won't need to raise his game by much to go one better, with a 4lb higher rating looking fair in the context of this race. Les's Legacy is another strong contender after a track-and-trip success and should go close if the tongue-tie and cheekpieces combination works as well second time around, although a 6lb higher mark demands more. Romeo Brown and Larkfield Lusive are other shortlist options.

Seven-time winner DARKENED has been running well on the Flat at Dundalk and has a manageable weight in an ordinary claimer on his return to hurdling. Three of his wins have come on good or yielding ground and he ran well enough over timber at Down Royal over Christmas. Routine Excellence is a four-time winner whose previous success last August came in a similar claimer. His form tailed off late last year, but he ran well over fences at Leopardstown last month and should give the selection a race. Lakota Blue has shown bits of useful form, but was well held on his latest starts.

DARKENED is preferred. He's been in good form on the Flat, he has run well here in the past and he won't mind what the weather does.

Tarbat Ness occupied the runner-up spot over timber at Huntingdon last month and was last seen on the Flat running out a five-length victor at Catterick in October. However, he might come out second best to ZEPHLYN, who hit the line strongly to score at Newcastle, shaping as if this step up in trip would eke out more. With a similar performance, he should prove tough to beat. Man Of Riddles is another to watch out for.

The vote goes to TARBAT NESS, who was runner-up over hurdles last month and his last Flat run was a 5l win at Catterick in October.

Placed on each of his last two starts under Rules and successful between the flags most recently, Cash Again cannot be ruled out either.

PROVE YOURSELF finished 64 lengths behind the winner at Navan last month, but had previously shown nice ability and now contests a weak-looking race. His four bumper runs were useful efforts and while he dropped away on his reappearance, he is much better than that and a return to a sounder surface should also help. The locally-trained The Store Boy and Penny Express represent top yards but bid to break their ducks, on debut, at a somewhat discouraging time of year.

Karl Burke had a terrific record with newcomers last season and he can continue that trend with DANCE OF KNIGHTS, a half-sister to prolific sprinter Star Of Lady M, who scored on debut herself. She's The Duchess has a 7lb penalty to overcome for a determined success on her introduction over further at Newcastle and she is a key player, as is first-timer Minshaar, who is related to the Listed-placed Bombay Bazaar.

While she'll need to improve on her debut Southwell win, the well-related SHE'S THE DUCHESS has potential and can defy the penalty.

LADY JAGO opened her account over fences with a convincing win at Wincanton a fortnight ago and will likely start a warm order. Dan Skelton's six-year-old has her favoured conditions again and can follow up with Harry Skelton taking over the reins. Shesupincourt may prove best of the opposition returning to this shorter distance, given she won over it at Leicester in February. Annie Don is preferred to Universal Brook of the remaining pair.

The most obvious answer is LADY JAGO, who went up only 3lb for her recent Wincanton win and can cope with the return to shorter.

JAPETUS displayed good improvement from his first to his second start when scoring comfortably at Newcastle and Nicky Richards' charge is likely to have plenty more to come, despite a 7lb penalty. Miss Mac hasn't shown much in two career outings at Ayr, but the switch to better ground and Brian Hughes taking over in the saddle could lead to a better display. Solal Nonantais is possibly the pick of the newcomers.

Recent Limerick third NUSRA can make the breakthrough over hurdles. A three-time winner on the Flat, the eight-year-old mare has only had the six career runs over flights to date. With her best effort coming last time, she appears to be going the right way and although dropping back in trip is far from ideal given that she is a stayer on the level, this looks a modest contest. C&D winner Itsalonglongroad has been a great servant to connections over the last couple of years. The Charles Coakley-trained veteran is 10lb higher over fences, so has to have leading claims. Hitthehayson is a potential improver.

HITTHEHAYSON is a tentative selection. He showed a bit more spark in his second h'cap at Clonmel and this drop back in trip should suit

DANDY DINMONT caught the eye when running on for third on his return to action at Doncaster last month, which should have put him spot-on for this assignment. The six-year-old is now 4lb lower than his last success and may have too much for Emperor Caradoc, who was so consistent last term and struck over C&D in July. Reigning Profit and So Grateful are capable of being in the shake-up as well.

So Grateful has plenty going for him but so too does REIGNING PROFIT (nap), who's fancied to add to his 2023 win in this race.

ISKAR D'AIRY made every yard to win at Huntingdon before finding only one too good at Hereford. He looks worthy of another chance on his preferred ground and can edge out Orbys River, who should make her presence felt once again, despite a 6lb rise for a Bangor triumph. Gwennie May Jem must be noted for the Skelton yard having only his third outing over fences.

Orbys River and ISKAR D'AIRY are both promising but the continuing dry spell could play more in the selection's favour.

AUDACIOUS ANNIE won a maiden hurdle at Wetherby with plenty in hand, despite a mistake at the last. Jamie Snowden's charge can defy a penalty with plenty more to come from her. I've Madeupmymind is also burdened with a penalty after winning a maiden over a shorter trip on testing going at Bangor, but My Bobby's Lass may prove a bigger threat returning to novice company after landing a handicap at Hereford.

The BHA ratings give I've Madeupmymind a slight edge over AUDACIOUS ANNIE but the latter's winning form has much more depth to it.

While it is hard to be confident about a horse who has yet to win from 20 starts over fences, this could be the day CAESAR ROCK gets his head in front. A consistent gelding who has been placed in almost half of those races, the Mouse Morris-trained nine-year-old can put his experience to good use in this ordinary contest. With an official rating of 121 over fences, he is certainly good enough to win one of these. Beggars Rock looks the main threat for the Declan Queally yard. Third at Thurles on his second start over fences, the six-year-old was brought down back over hurdles last time. Seskin Flash can get involved if taking to chasing.

Tiger Jet finished a good second at Haydock last month and should go well, while Magical Escape is preferred to Roxboro River.

WYOMING BABY won a point-to-point at Dromahane last year and after showing little over hurdles, put in a much-improved effort when switched to fences at Limerick last month. The Robert Tyner-trained mare only weakened in the closing stages when third to Maciver over an extended 2m6f and this slightly shorter trip should be in her favour. Gold Haven filled the runner-up spot twice over C&D last year including this corresponding race, while Game And Glory won here over hurdles but also needs to bounce back after a disappointing effort last time. Coco Lightning and Roman Parish are others to consider.

GRAHAM failed to justify favouritism but was far from disgraced when hitting the woodwork at Kempton earlier in the month and is just 2lb higher. With first-time blinkers applied and the step back up in trip possibly aiding his cause, he could be the one to beat. Rock On Tommy was beaten a head at Southwell and should remain competitive off a 3lb higher rating. Allbetsoff looks best of the rest.

GALE FORCE JET has won three times between the flags and had Haggard 12 lengths behind in second when recording an impressive win at Monksgrange last month. Last Round won a point-to-point at Tinahely in January and has been placed twice since in hunter chases. The Gordon Elliott-trained gelding had Ta Se Rua nearly four lengths behind at Thurles and may be suited by this shorter trip after again taking third spot at Downpatrick.
