1st (5) (0.25/1 +73%) Torito |
0.25/1(+73%) | (5) Torito 0.25/1, Kingman half-brother to connections' very smart 1¼m-1½m winner Journey and a couple of other smart performers. Couldn't justify favouritism in a 1m Newbury novice on his debut last autumn but shaped with plenty of promise in third and rates a useful prospect.
2nd (4) (22/1 +33%) Sir Raj |
22/1(+33%) | (4) Sir Raj 22/1, £8,000 Holy Roman Emperor gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including smart winner up to 2¼m Rajinsky and 1¼m winner Bahkit. Dam maiden (barely stayed 7f). Will need to be useful to make a winning debut here.
3rd (2) (3.33/1 +63%) Overactive |
3.33/1(+63%) | (2) Overactive 3.33/1, Showed a fair level of ability when placed twice on Wolverhampton's AW at the end of 2022 but he doesn't look to have quite the same potential as a couple of others in this line-up. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Exoplanet is best excused his effort when finishing last (of six) in the Autumn Stakes at Newmarket in October and likely has more to offer this season. Marginal preference, however, is for TORITO, who travelled with purpose on his debut at Newbury in the same month, before inexperience appeared to get the better of him and he weakened into third. Overactive wasn't disgraced in two all-weather appearances over the winter and Ralph Beckett's inmate makes most appeal of the remainder.
A small field but an interesting opener all the same. The very well-bred TORITO shaped encouragingly when third on his debut at Newbury last autumn and is selected to make the most of the weight he receives from previous winner Exoplanet.
There were plenty of positives to take from TORITO's debut defeat at Newbury and a Derby entry bodes well. Exoplanet is feared.

1st (7) (2.5/1 +29%) Kayf Hernando |
2.5/1(+29%) | (7) Kayf Hernando 2.5/1, Stepped forward from his chasing debut when winning at Taunton (23f, good to soft) in November and ran to a similar level from a 9 lb higher mark when third back there 5 weeks later. Unexposed and solid claims returning from 103 days off.
2nd (8) (5/1 +29%) Good Work |
5/1(+29%) | (8) Good Work 5/1, Arrives on the back of 5 successive runner-up efforts but it's possibly no coincidence that he hasn't managed to get his head in front and others are preferred for win purposes again, particularly as this looks quite competitive.
3rd (1) (3.33/1 +45%) Arizona Cardinal |
3.33/1(+45%) | (1) Arizona Cardinal 3.33/1, Made a successful debut over fences after a wind operation in 2½m handicap at Bangor in October. However, below par both subsequent starts and needs the addition of a tongue strap to help spark a return to form.
4th (3) (6/1 +25%) Old Painless |
6/1(+25%) | (3) Old Painless 6/1, Winning pointer who looked a different proposition when scoring easily on chase debut in novice handicap at Plumpton in December. In second when unseated 2 out back at Plumpton (25.5f) last time. Likely to be competitive.
5th (4) (25/1 +0%) Shetland Bus |
25/1(+0%) | (4) Shetland Bus 25/1, It all clicked for him over fences with cheekpieces added in the autumn, winning at Stratford and Fakenham. Off 6 months, unsuited by soft ground when pulled up on Wetherby return 12 days ago. Could probably do with the rain staying away.
6th (2) (7.5/1 +25%) Tommie Beau |
7.5/1(+25%) | (2) Tommie Beau 7.5/1, Won twice last spring and came good at this time of year again when seeing off 3 rivals at Plumpton (25.5f) 3 weeks ago. Has never won off a mark this high but he's consistent and likely to give his running again.
|PU| (9) (10/1 +17%) Debden Bank |
10/1(+17%) | (9) Debden Bank 10/1, Three chase wins here, including this race 12 months ago. Hard to get excited by his recent hurdle exploits but he may fare better back chasing at a venue which clearly suits.
|PU| (5) (12/1 -20%) The Mighty Arc |
12/1(-20%) | (5) The Mighty Arc 12/1, Quickly made up into a fairly useful chaser last winter, winning twice, including under Brian Hughes. Has yet to scale the same heights this season but is back on a winning mark if a recent wind operation has a revitalising effect. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Soft ground wouldn't have suited SHETLAND BUS at Wetherby last month, having been off the track for 168 days. He remains well treated on his peak hurdles form and it would be no surprise to see an improved performance with forecast conditions set to be in his favour. Recent Plumpton scorer Tommie Beau can mount another serious challenge, along with Lounge Lizard, who bolted up at Catterick last time out.
KAYF HERNANDO's novice handicap form at the end of 2022 looks solid and he gets the nod to make a successful return from a break for the Skeltons. Lounge Lizard had the form of his latest Catterick win boosted when the second scored at Market Rasen on Sunday and he's feared most ahead of the reliable Tommie Beau.
The pick is ARIZONA CARDINAL, who began his chasing career with a win in the autumn and will find this easier than his latest race.

1st (4) (7/1 -40%) Isle Of Dreams |
7/1(-40%) | (4) Isle Of Dreams 7/1, C&D winner. Four wins from 7 runs last year. Career best when winning 10-runner handicap at Redcar (6f, good to firm, 3/1) by neck from Birdie Bowers in August, always holding on. Off 7 months but definite player if she returns in that form having had a wind op.
2nd (12) (16/1 +43%) Tommytwohoots |
16/1(+43%) | (12) Tommytwohoots 16/1, One win from 25 Flat runs. Cheekpieces on for first time, respectable sixth of 10 in minor event (9/2) at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 15 days ago. Very hard to make a case for.
3rd (11) (11/1 +0%) Birdie Bowers |
11/1(+0%) | (11) Birdie Bowers 11/1, Respectable 3¾ lengths fifth of 16 to Freedom Flyer in handicap at Thirsk (5f, soft, 8/1) 8 days ago.
4th (3) (3.5/1 +0%) Freedom Flyer |
3.5/1(+0%) | (3) Freedom Flyer 3.5/1, 9/1, improved on recent efforts to win 16-runner handicap at Thirsk (5f, soft) 8 days ago, readily. Carries penalty and he retains plenty of handicap scope. Obvious claims. Engaged 8.00 Wolverhampton Tuesday.
5th (8) (9/1 -13%) Spanish Angel |
9/1(-13%) | (8) Spanish Angel 9/1, 7/2, didn't need to improve to win 10-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 15 days ago. Lower in the weights on turf.
6th (10) (12/1 -50%) Captain Corcoran |
12/1(-50%) | (10) Captain Corcoran 12/1, C&D winner. Respectable 3¼ lengths fourth of 16 to Freedom Flyer in handicap at Thirsk (5f, soft, 14/1) 8 days ago, nearest finish. Can get in the mix again.
7th (7) (12/1 +45%) Foreseeable Future |
12/1(+45%) | (7) Foreseeable Future 12/1, Three wins from 15 runs last year. Twelfth of 14 in handicap at Newcastle (6f, 22/1). Off 176 days and stablemates look much more likely.
8th (1) (25/1 +0%) Dandy Spirit |
25/1(+0%) | (1) Dandy Spirit 25/1, Eleventh of 14 in handicap (80/1) at Southwell (5f) 34 days ago. This is more his level but he needs to cast that run firmly aside.
9th (6) (11/1 -47%) One Hart |
11/1(-47%) | (6) One Hart 11/1, Latest win at Newcastle in February. 4/1, eighth of 10 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 12 days ago, merely passing beaten rivals. Given big chance by the handicapper back on turf.
10th (9) (11/1 +31%) Imperial Khan |
11/1(+31%) | (9) Imperial Khan 11/1, Tenth of 13 in handicap (16/1) at Newcastle (5f) 19 days ago. Others more persuasive.
11th (2) (4/1 +47%) Josies Kid |
4/1(+47%) | (2) Josies Kid 4/1, One win from 24 Flat runs. 13/2 and visored for first time, third of 5 in handicap at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 7 days ago. Cheekpieces back on and this is an easier band of handicap.
12th (5) (10/1 +9%) Hot Scoop |
10/1(+9%) | (5) Hot Scoop 10/1, C&D winner. 9/2, creditable third of 12 in handicap at this C&D (heavy). Off 169 days but ran well on last season's reappearance. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Freedom Flyer made a big impression when scoring by two and a half lengths over this trip at Thirsk last week, but he is also declared to run at Wolverhampton on Tuesday evening, so preference lies with the Ruth Carr-trained SPANISH ANGEL. A comfortable winner over this trip at Wolverhampton last month, he races off a 5lb lower mark on his return to turf and can have a big say in proceedings here. Captain Corcoran and Hot Scoop are others of interest.
Ruth Carr holds a strong hand here with FREEDOM FLYER and Spanish Angel of particular interest. Both arrive on the back of recent wins, and while the latter has a very handy turf mark to exploit, the former is just preferred given the ease of his success at Thirsk. Isle of Dreams is a threat if fully wound up for this.
Soft-ground C&D winner CAPTAIN CORCORAN was a promising fourth on his recent reappearance at Thirsk and earns the vote.

1st (6) (6.5/1 +13%) Eyetrap |
6.5/1(+13%) | (6) Eyetrap 6.5/1, Well bred and produced his best effort to date when third in a novice at Kempton 133 days ago. Step up in trip will suit and he can't be dismissed.
2nd (5) (2.75/1 +31%) Dawn Vega |
2.75/1(+31%) | (5) Dawn Vega 2.75/1, Hasn't had much racing and arrives on the back of an encouraging run at Chelmsford. Will be suited by this extra distance and merits respect.
3rd (4) (16/1 -33%) Kadovar |
16/1(-33%) | (4) Kadovar 16/1, Fair form when second at Nottingham last October but that is a standout effort and he was disappointing at Doncaster on return. Others make more appeal.
4th (3) (2.5/1 -11%) Mudskipper |
2.5/1(-11%) | (3) Mudskipper 2.5/1, Fair form last season, third at Newbury 173 days ago. Type to do better as a 3yo over this sort of trip, so worthy of consideration.
5th (1) (5/1 -25%) Latin Verse |
5/1(-25%) | (1) Latin Verse 5/1, Off the mark at the third attempt in 5-runner maiden at Lingfield and looks open to further progress. Drop back in trip perhaps not ideal but still a major player.
6th (2) (4.5/1 +10%) Bohemian Breeze |
4.5/1(+10%) | (2) Bohemian Breeze 4.5/1, Promising start at Leicester as a 2yo and, while he failed to build on it, he might get back on track having been given 4 months off. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Latin Verse appeared to improve for the step up in trip when winning over 1m4f at Lingfield in February and there may be some value in taking on the son of Postponed now returned this distance. MUDSKIPPER shaped as if 1m was on the sharp side for him last season and this first attempt over 1m2f could unlock the improvement needed for a first success for David Menuisier's colt. Bohemian Breeze is another who could improve for this stiffer test and he also warrants consideration.
DAWN VEGA shapes like this sort of trip will suit him and he's worth chancing to open his account at the possible expense of Latin Verse, a comfortable maiden winner last time. Mudskipper is another one to consider.
A typically trappy 3yo handicap at this early stage of the season. LATIN VERSE does at least have the benefit of a recent run.

1st (3) (0.91/1 -36%) Thelasthighking |
0.91/1(-36%) | (3) Thelasthighking 0.91/1, Signed off last season with victory over hurdles and readily surpassed opening pair of chase exploits this term with a ready success at Wincanton (15.7f) 16 days ago. 8 lb rise in weights shouldn't prevent another bold showing.
2nd (2) (2.25/1 +32%) In Excelsis Deo |
2.25/1(+32%) | (2) In Excelsis Deo 2.25/1, Fairly useful ex-French winning hurdler. Easy winner on chasing/yard debut at Hereford (2m, soft) in December. Well held at Warwick in February but did run better when third in 4-runner Chepstow handicap (19.5f) last month. Drops back in trip now which may help.
3rd (4) (2.75/1 +31%) Quid Pro Quo |
2.75/1(+31%) | (4) Quid Pro Quo 2.75/1, Bumper winner who landed his first 2 starts over hurdles in maiden/novice events at up to 21.5f last year. However, came up short in a couple of Grade 2 events returning from a break in October and he's yet to complete in 2 starts over fences in recent months. Tough to assess. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
THELASTHIGHKING was suited by a drop in trip when winning over an extended 1m7f at Wincanton last month and Nigel Twiston-Davies' charge could have what it takes to deal with a subsequent 8lb rise in the handicap. Quid Pro Quo has yet to complete in two starts over fences and has plenty to prove, so Chepstow third In Excelsis Deo looks the one for forecast purposes.
THELASTHIGHKING readily surpassed his previous exploits over fences when running out a ready winner on his third chase start at Wincanton 16 days ago (passed the line with plenty left) and an 8 lb higher mark shouldn't prevent another bold bid here. Since Day One may emerge as the chief threat.
After a taking success at Wincanton, THELASTHIGHKING looks the likeliest winner.

1st (4) (2.5/1 +38%) Jamie Bond |
2.5/1(+38%) | (4) Jamie Bond 2.5/1, £130,000 breeze-up buy who displayed promise on 2 of his 3 starts in maiden/novice company on turf last summer. Never involved on final start at York in September but gelded ahead of return/handicap debut and market confidence behind him would look significant.
2nd (5) (9/1 +10%) Grandad Bob |
9/1(+10%) | (5) Grandad Bob 9/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Ran below form of his first 2 starts when last of 7 in a C&D novice event in October, weakening from halfway. Had wind op ahead of return/handicap debut. One to note in the betting.
3rd (3) (5.5/1 -57%) Premier Option |
5.5/1(-57%) | (3) Premier Option 5.5/1, Profitable gelding who displayed race-by-race progress in maiden/novice events last term (best effort over C&D). Not so good in pair of nurseries thereafter but no surprise to see him get back on track returning from 6 months off.
4th (1) (6.5/1 +13%) Montelusa |
6.5/1(+13%) | (1) Montelusa 6.5/1, Fair performer who proved consistent in maiden/novice events at up to 6f last summer. Absent since running below best when last of 5 in nursery at Hamilton (6f) in July so interesting to see what the market makes of him on return. Blinkers left off.
5th (2) (3/1 +6%) Shine's Ambition |
3/1(+6%) | (2) Shine's Ambition 3/1, Fair colt who may have needed the run when fourth in 6-runner Southwell novice (5f) 5 weeks ago. Handicapper has afforded him a chance and better expected here.
6th (6) (4.5/1 -29%) South Dakota Sioux |
4.5/1(-29%) | (6) South Dakota Sioux 4.5/1, 11/2, creditable fourth of 10 in handicap at Southwell (5f) 8 days ago. Has good chance on form. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A fairly weak contest in which it could pay to side with SHINE'S AMBITION, who must hold every chance of building on a disappointing fourth at Southwell on his return to action last month. A switch back to turf may have a positive effect and he races off a 3lb lower mark today. South Dakota Sioux and Montelusa are others who warrant respect and they are worth a market check.
The betting should prove useful but SHINE'S AMBITION ought to be sharper for his comeback run at Southwell 5 weeks ago and, having been given a chance by the assessor, he could well make a bold bid returned to handicap-company. South Dakota Sioux, who ran well himself recently, is next best, ahead of Premier Option.
It may prove best to concentrate on the handicap newcomers GRANDAD BOB and Jamie Bond in that order of preference.

1st (5) (1.88/1 +0%) Fix You |
1.88/1(+0%) | (5) Fix You 1.88/1, Debut winner at Thirsk last April and not discredited after 11 months off when second of 9 in 6f Kempton novice 11 days ago. Looks to have got in lightly for her handicap debut. Interesting.
2nd (8) (16/1 -14%) Open Market |
16/1(-14%) | (8) Open Market 16/1, Made winning start in 5f Cork maiden last May but has proved too free both starts since, only sixth on her yard debut in 5f Wolverhampton novice 26 days ago. Hooded now and she can't be discounted on her handicap debut.
3rd (2) (9/1 +18%) Thankuappreciate |
9/1(+18%) | (2) Thankuappreciate 9/1, Ripon 6f novice winner before posting a very good second in 5f Redcar novice later last autumn. Highly respected on his handicap debut.
4th (1) (8.5/1 -6%) Betweenthesticks |
8.5/1(-6%) | (1) Betweenthesticks 8.5/1, Three-time juvenile winner, landing 5f nursery at York in October. Possibly found run coming too quickly when last of six over C&D after and no surprise to see him bounce back.
5th (6) (7.5/1 -7%) Desperate Hero |
7.5/1(-7%) | (6) Desperate Hero 7.5/1, Got off the mark in 5-runner minor event at Chepstow (6.1f, good to firm) in July. Off since so has his fitness to prove now going into handicaps.
6th (3) (4/1 +11%) Paddy's Day |
4/1(+11%) | (3) Paddy's Day 4/1, Back on track to land 4-runner handicap at Lingfield (5f, AW) 18 days ago. Needs considering back on turf despite taking a 3 lb rise.
7th (4) (10/1 +38%) Absolutelyflawless |
10/1(+38%) | (4) Absolutelyflawless 10/1, Dual 5f winner last season but she wasn't seen out after coming in last of 6 in nursery at Newbury (5.2f, good to firm) in August. Needs to hit the ground running on her comeback.
8th (7) (6.5/1 +41%) Castan |
6.5/1(+41%) | (7) Castan 6.5/1, Ended last term on the up, scoring at Catterick before excellent second of 6 in nursery at Newcastle (5f) in October. Goes well on a soft surface so he's a player nudged up just 1 lb. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
FIX YOU reappeared in good form when collared close home over 6f at Kempton recently and, with this return to 5f and underfoot conditions to suit, she may been let in lightly off an opening mark of 77. Thankuappreciate doesn't have the benefit of a recent run, but Nigel Tinkler's charge may also have more to offer this season now entering handicaps and is feared most. Paddy's Day, Desperate Hero and Castan also have claims in a competitive-looking contest.
A case can be made for all of these but CASTAN ended last term on the up so gets the nod off a still handy-looking mark with the form of his Newcastle second having been franked. Recent Lingfield scorer Paddy's Day rates a big threat with handicap debutantes Fix You and Open Market much respected too.
The filly FIX YOU (nap) emerged as the best horse at the weights when narrowly denied on her AW reappearance. She'll love this ground.

3.33/1(+17%) | (9) Stuti 3.33/1, Makes appeal on pedigree and duly showed ability when fourth of 12 in bumper at Newbury (16.3f, good to firm, 15/2) on NH debut 39 days ago. Should have learnt plenty from that.
2nd (10) (10/1 +75%) Looking As You Are |
10/1(+75%) | (10) Looking As You Are 10/1, Passing Glance filly. Dam, modest 2½m hurdle winner, half-sister to fairly useful chaser (stayed 21f) Big Jim. Yard has had a couple of bumper winners this term so worth a second look in the market on debut.
3rd (11) (5.5/1 +0%) Wyenot |
5.5/1(+0%) | (11) Wyenot 5.5/1, £31,000 3-y-o, Schiaparelli filly. Closely related to useful chaser Everlastingpromise, and half-sister to 2 winners, including useful 2m/19f hurdle winner Nada To Prada. Another interesting newcomer.

4.5/1(+10%) | (4) Fortune Forever 4.5/1, Improved from debut effort when third of 18 in Warwick bumper on penultimate start. Unsuited by emphasis on speed when fifth at same course since and sets the standard on form here.
5th (5) (4/1 -60%) Madam Ryder |
4/1(-60%) | (5) Madam Ryder 4/1, €58,000 3-y-o, Blue Bresil mare. Dam unraced half-sister to smart hurdler (barely stayed 3m) Lac Fontana. Yard has a fine strike rate in bumpers.

50/1(+50%) | (3) Araglen Star 50/1, Merely passed beaten horses when eighth of 13 in bumper (250/1) over C&D (soft) on NH debut 23 days ago. Likely to struggle again.
7th (8) (12/1 -20%) Sister Julienne |
12/1(-20%) | (8) Sister Julienne 12/1, Posted fair efforts both starts thus far, latest when second of 6 in bumper at Hereford (16.2f, good, 10/3) 56 days ago, running green. Enters calculations.
8th (2) (8/1 +60%) Anna Of Annandale |

100/1(+0%) | (1) After Midnight 100/1, Some late headway when seventh of 12 in bumper at Warwick (16f, good to soft) on NH debut 47 days ago. Entitled to build on that but is probably a longer-term prospect.

40/1(+39%) | (7) Pepite De Amour 40/1, Telescope mare. Half-sister to 3 winners, including fairly useful hurdler/fair chaser Jubilympics and fair hurdler Pepite de Belle. Dam 2m-19f hurdle winner. Market should prove best guide to claims on debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Nicky Henderson has a terrific record in bumpers at this venue and MADAM RYDER could enhance that already impressive strike-rate. The daughter of Blue Bresil makes plenty of appeal on paper and Caoilin Quinn ought to further aid her chances with his handy 5lb claim. Sister Julienne is feared most, while Stuti and Anna Of Annandale are others to note.
FORTUNE FOREVER had excuses at Warwick last time and is taken to get off the mark at the fourth attempt. Sister Julienne looks the main danger on form, whilst Madam Ryder may be the pick of an interesting bunch of newcomers.
This is probably easier than the Newbury race in which STUTI finished fourth, and she has a very good pedigree for bumpers.

1st (7) (1.5/1 +0%) Mister Camacho |
1.5/1(+0%) | (7) Mister Camacho 1.5/1, Still a maiden but largely held his form well in handicaps last term. Solid return from 5 months off when third at Doncaster (11.9f, heavy) 10 days ago, finding his stamina kicking in late on. Good claims back up in trip.
2nd (5) (3.33/1 +26%) Quercus Robur |
3.33/1(+26%) | (5) Quercus Robur 3.33/1, Dual 10f winner for Richard Fahey who has improved over staying trips for this yard, adding to his tally at Newcastle (16.2f) in January prior to a good third at Southwell (16.4f) in February. Effective on turf and not out of things despite career-high mark.
3rd (6) (8.5/1 +15%) Gift Of Raaj |
8.5/1(+15%) | (6) Gift Of Raaj 8.5/1, Dual winner at around 14f last season and built on hurdling debut effort when landing 4-runner Doncaster novice (16.6f) in February. Turned in a poor effort on handicap debut at Market Rasen (16.5f) since but underfoot conditions will hold no fears ahead of this return to the level.
4th (3) (12/1 +25%) Oasis Prince |
12/1(+25%) | (3) Oasis Prince 12/1, Temperamental sort who ended lengthy losing run in comfortable fashion here (15.8f) last July. Ended the campaign with a disappointing effort at York (16.2f) in September but worth noting he did run with credit on his reappearance 12 months ago.
5th (1) (9/1 +55%) Punxsutawney Phil |
9/1(+55%) | (1) Punxsutawney Phil 9/1, Fairly useful winner at 17f over hurdles and won AW Flat maiden over 12f in December. Not been in anything like the same form either outing since though, last of 9 in handicap at Southwell (12.1f) 85 days ago. Bounce back called for.
6th (4) (4/1 -45%) Golden Keeper |
4/1(-45%) | (4) Golden Keeper 4/1, Winner at Beverley (12.1f) in August. Creditable second of 8 in handicap at Wolverhampton (14f) when last seen in November, headed approaching last ½f, no match for winner. Expected to remain competitive from this sort of mark back on turf. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
This represents a drop in class for MISTER CAMACHO, who kept on well for third over 1m4f at Doncaster earlier this month. He retains the mark from that run and can get closer now up in trip, but Golden Keeper filled the runner-up spot at Wolverhampton on his latest outing last November and should not be taken lightly. Quercus Robur completes the shortlist.
MISTER CAMACHO remains a maiden but shaped well with a view to stepping back up in trip when third at Doncaster (11.9f) 10 days ago and he gets the narrow vote to come out on top with forecast ground conditions also holding no fears. Golden Keeper and Quercus Robur are a couple of others to consider.
The in-form QUERCUS ROBUR is taken to get back to winning ways by beating Master Camacho and Gift Of Raaj.

6th (7) (16/1 +27%) Stocks Park |
16/1(+27%) | (7) Stocks Park 16/1, Failed to match debut run when seventh of 10 in minor event (22/1) at Wolverhampton (5.1f). Off 137 days. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
TAJALLA won a decent-looking novice stakes at Newmarket on his only start as a juvenile and, given he won with authority that day, he is taken to cope with having to concede weight all round at this stage. Eternal Class impressed when she won a maiden at Thirsk on her racecourse bow and rates a big threat, if forgiven a modest effort on the all-weather when last seen. Fair Wind is also considered after posting a respectable third on debut over C&D last week.
TAJALLA has presumably had his share of issues to be off the track for a year but his debut win at Newmarket was very taking. He's in top hands so is taken to remain unbeaten, probably at the chief expense of Eternal Class and McCauley's Tavern.
Conditions won't concern McCAULEY'S TAVERN and he is preferred to Eternal Class.

1st (4) (1.38/1 -25%) Little Miss Dante |
1.38/1(-25%) | (4) Little Miss Dante 1.38/1, Strong in the betting and shaped like a ready-made future winner when runner-up starting out in a Huntingdon bumper (15.8f, good to soft) in January. The winner of that race has since performed well in listed company and she's very much the one to beat.
2nd (3) (7.5/1 +25%) Endless Supply |
7.5/1(+25%) | (3) Endless Supply 7.5/1, Third sole start between the flags and there were positives to glean from her Rules debut sixth in a bumper at Chepstow (2m, good to soft). In good hands and likely she will do better in time.
3rd (6) (4.5/1 +40%) Rogue Queen |
4.5/1(+40%) | (6) Rogue Queen 4.5/1, Cheap purchase given her pedigree but encouragement when runner-up in 2m Warwick bumper on her introduction in November. Failed to progress when fourth of 12 back from a break over the same C&D but she's one of the more appealing candidates here all the same.
4th (2) (8.5/1 +15%) Blow The Budget |
8.5/1(+15%) | (2) Blow The Budget 8.5/1, Half-sister to fairly useful hurdler Kakamora and showed promise when fifth of 11 on debut in a Uttoxeter bumper (15.8f, good to soft) during the autumn. The fourth has won since but the rest have hardly advertised that form in the intervening months and others make more appeal.
5th (5) (18/1 +10%) Lizzie Rey |
18/1(+10%) | (5) Lizzie Rey 18/1, Kingston Hill mare. Half-sister to dual bumper winner Pop Mistress. Dam 2m-2½m hurdle/chase winner. Yard is hardly a regular source of winning newcomers but she's worth a second look in the betting nonetheless.
6th (9) (8/1 -14%) Jersey Gem |
8/1(-14%) | (9) Jersey Gem 8/1, £32,000 3-y-o. Dam, bumper/fair 2½m hurdle winner, sister to useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 2¾m) Twelve Roses. Market should point the way.
7th (10) (16/1 +36%) Persian Willow |
16/1(+36%) | (10) Persian Willow 16/1, £18,000 3-y-o. Half-sister to 4 winners, including useful 2m hurdle winner Persian Time and fairly useful hurdler Restandbethankful. Wears tongue strap on debut. Yard 0-8 in bumpers in recent seasons.
8th (1) (28/1 -40%) Bella Madonna |
28/1(-40%) | (1) Bella Madonna 28/1, Performed above market expectations when third on debut in an AW bumper at Lingfield in February. That was a pretty weak race, though, and it's likely that she'll need to take a considerable step forward in order to play a leading role here.
9th (7) (200/1 +0%) The Pit Popsy |
200/1(+0%) | (7) The Pit Popsy 200/1, Didn't create much of a first impression when beaten out of sight at Wincanton last month.
10th (8) (9/1 +25%) Braunton Burrows |
9/1(+25%) | (8) Braunton Burrows 9/1, €25,000 3-y-o. Half-sister to 3 winners, including bumper winner/fair hurdler Sand Fly and bumper winner/fair hurdler All Clenched Up. Represents respected yard and interest levels will heighten if the market speaks in her favour. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
LITTLE MISS DANTE must hold every chance if building on a strong runner-up effort on debut at Huntingdon in January. James King's 3lb claim is another plus and she can see off the likes of Rogue Queen and Endless Supply, who is bound to improve on her first run under Rules at Chepstow. Bella Madonna and Blow The Budget are capable of being in the shake-up as well.
The clear pick is LITTLE MISS DANTE, who fetched £100,000 as a 3-y-o and made a promising start to her career when going close at Huntingdon. Unless one of the newcomers turn out to be pretty decent, she won't need to improve upon that form to go one better here. Braunton Burrows is the most appealing of the debutantes on paper and is preferred to Rogue Queen for forecast purposes.
As regards the runners who already have experience, LITTLE MISS DANTE has the best chance. All of the newcomers are attractively bred.

2nd (6) (1.2/1 +20%) Three Yorkshiremen |
1.2/1(+20%) | (6) Three Yorkshiremen 1.2/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Creditable fourth of 12 in nursery at York (7.9f, good to soft) in October, effort over 2f out and one paced. Gelded subsequently and forecast ground conditions will hold no fears on return. Worth considering.

22/1(+21%) | (10) Wurkin Ninetofive 22/1, Twice-raced maiden. 28/1, fourth of 10 in minor event at Carlisle (5.8f, good to soft) finding the test inadequate. Off 7 months. Up in trip here but handicaps including over further still will be more her bag.

66/1(+18%) | (4) Naughty George 66/1, Twice-raced maiden. 40/1, sixth of 11 in minor event at Redcar (7f, heavy) in November, fading from 2 out. Low-grade handicaps entitled to be more his bag moving forward.

10th (2) (18/1 +36%) Headabovetherest |
18/1(+36%) | (2) Headabovetherest 18/1, Twice-raced maiden who improved on debut form whilst still looking in need of experience when sixth of 10 in minor event at Thirsk (7f, soft) in September. Gelded subsequently and likely there's better to come this term, particularly in handicaps. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Divine Libra posted two sound efforts in defeat on the all-weather during his last campaign and Charlie Hills' inmate appears a leading contender on this seasonal debut. Nevertheless, the son of Dark Angel has yet to prove his effectiveness on the turf and THREE YORKSHIREMEN rates as a more solid proposition. The selection shaped better than the beaten distance suggested over 1m at York in October and he should appreciate this return to 7f. Any market support for newcomer Nine Six Five is also worth noting.
DIVINE LIBRA couldn't quite match his debut form when fourth in a Newcastle novice back in November but he was a shade keener than ideal and, back from a break, he could be up to getting off the mark now switched to turf. Three Yorkshiremen, who set a similar standard himself as a juvenile, is feared, with newcomer Nine Six Five well worthy of note also.
Back at novice level THREE YORKSHIREMEN holds strong claims on form. Divine Libra and Nine Six Five are feared most.

1st (4) (16/1 +36%) Rajinsky |
16/1(+36%) | (4) Rajinsky 16/1, Genuine and reliable stayer who added two more handicaps to his tally last season, the latest at Newmarket (2¼m, good to firm) in September. Found Group 1 company too much in France on final start of 2022 and minor place money is probably the best he can hope for here.
2nd (1) (0.44/1 +0%) Trueshan |
0.44/1(+0%) | (1) Trueshan 0.44/1, Top-class stayer who landed this race on return last season prior to a superb weight-carrying performance in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle. Ended that campaign with a narrow victory in an Ascot Group 2 and obvious claims with conditions in his favour.
3rd (5) (3.5/1 +30%) Tashkhan |
3.5/1(+30%) | (5) Tashkhan 3.5/1, Big step forward when chasing home Trueshan in the Long Distance Cup at Ascot in October 2021. Proved that was no flash in the pan with several decent efforts in top staying races last season and should make his presence felt if fully tuned-up for this.
4th (6) (22/1 -22%) Urban Artist |
22/1(-22%) | (6) Urban Artist 22/1, Useful mare who was runner-up twice over this trip in Group 3/listed company last season. However, well held in the Park Hill at Doncaster when last seen in September and she has plenty to find with the principles.
5th (2) (10/1 -33%) Buzz |
10/1(-33%) | (2) Buzz 10/1, Useful handicapper for Hughie Morrison a few seasons back and has since made up into a smart hurdler for Nicky Henderson. Winner of the 2021 Cesarewitch on latest start in this sphere (sole run on the Flat so far for Henderson) but this is a big ask on the back of a lengthy absence. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
TRUESHAN and Hollie Doyle teamed up to good effect when winning this race last season and, given how well the rest of the campaign panned out for the partnership, they are hard to oppose in the bid for back-to-back successes. Last season's Gold Cup runner-up, Mojo Star, rates as the chief danger, although Buzz, who hasn't been seen since winning a Grade 2 over hurdles 508 days ago, has to be of interest on his return, considering he won the 2021 renewal of the Cesarewitch on his penultimate start.
MOJO STAR may only have a maiden success to his name but he has proven himself to be high class with a number of fine efforts in Group 1 company, not least when splitting Kyprios and Stradivarius in a thrilling finish to the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot on his sole appearance in 2022. He appears to be versatile ground-wise and is taken to lower the colours of last year's winner Trueshan in what promises to be a fascinating clash between these two top-notch performers. Tashkhan is best of the rest.
You can set your clock by TRUESHAN when he gets these conditions and Alan King's star should repeat last year's success.

Leading contender on handicap debut.
2nd (2) (5/1 +9%) Dom Perry |
5/1(+9%) | (2) Dom Perry 5/1, Bumper winner who made a successful start for this yard in maiden hurdle at this C&D in February. 25/1(+11%) | (3) Perryville 25/1, Fair form at best in maiden/novice hurdles, but probably needed the run after 9 months off when down the field at Doncaster (19.4f) on handicap debut last time. Needs to get back on track having his first start at 2m.

5.5/1(-38%) | (8) Superstylin 5.5/1, Irish point winner who has shown more over hurdles since sent handicapping, opening his account under Rules when making all at Market Rasen a fortnight ago, winning unchallenged. Respected.
6th (1) (8/1 -45%) Groom De Cotte |
8/1(-45%) | (1) Groom De Cotte 8/1, Ended last term on a low note, but has yet to finish out of the top 3 in a trio of starts in handicaps this season. Creditable effort when runner-up at Warwick when last seen in January and he can give his running again.
7th (9) (6.5/1 +46%) Hashehadhisoatsyet |
6.5/1(+46%) | (9) Hashehadhisoatsyet 6.5/1, Has made little impact in a trio of starts in maiden/novice hurdles so far, merely passing beaten rivals when ninth of 15 at Catterick (19.3f) in January. Much more required as he now goes handicapping.
|F| (7) (10/1 -54%) Pride Of Hawridge |
10/1(-54%) | (7) Pride Of Hawridge 10/1, Fair winner at 1m2f on the Flat. With cheekpieces on for first time in this code, shaped better than result when fifth of 8 in handicap hurdle at Fakenham (2m4f), failing to stay the longer trip. Merits consideration back down in distance. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Now that the penny has dropped for SUPERSTYLIN, after an easy win at Market Rasen last month, Sue Smith's charge can follow up off an 8lb higher mark. He gets the vote ahead of the likes of Groom De Cotte and Shelikesthelights, who was value for more than the winning margin at Doncaster and could be interesting off an opening handicap mark of 101.
SHELIKESTHELIGHTS was value for extra when getting off the mark over hurdles at Doncaster last time, heavily eased up close home, and she can follow up on her handicap debut. Superstylin also arrives on the back of a win and is feared most, ahead of Pride of Hawridge who can fare better back down in trip.
Today's drop back in trip looks the right move for PRIDE OF HAWRIDGE, who was placed over 2m on his handicap debut two starts ago.

18/1(-80%) | (9) Parys Mountain 18/1, 4-time C&D winner who capitalised on career-low mark when adding to tally at Redcar (1m, heavy) on final start in November, albeit seen to good effect. Remains with handicapping scope and no forlorn hope on return. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Miss Calculation regained the winning thread when finding the underfoot conditions to her liking at Thirsk last Tuesday and John Quinn's filly isn't taken lightly now shouldering a 5lb penalty. The majority of her rivals are making their return to action and it may pay to take a chance on SPECIAL MAYSON, who finished fourth in last year's renewal of this contest. The five-year-old have may benefitted from some time off and boasts a C&D triumph to his name. Legal Reform and Beauty Choice are just two others to note in an open-looking event.
A competitive race of its type and it may pay to side with METABOLT. Best excused his final start last term, he'd previously caught the eye at Chester and his mark looks an exploitable one. Recent Thirsk winner Miss Calculation heads up the dangers along with Special Mayson and Motawaazy.
The lightly raced 4yo METABOLT has potential off his current mark and is preferred to Langholm, who has a good record here.

22/1(-38%) | (8) Anieres Girl 22/1, Suited by step up in trip when creditable third of 11 in nursery at Beverley (7.4f, good to firm) in July. Not seen since but this stiffer test ought to be a plus and she is worth a second look in the market.

5/1(-11%) | (7) Bonkersinabundance 5/1, Run with credit in maiden company at end of 2022, most recently when fourth of 9 at Chelmsford City (7f) in December. In good hands and improvement may be forthcoming now switched to handicapping.
9th (2) (7.5/1 -67%) Class Member |
7.5/1(-67%) | (2) Class Member 7.5/1, Made the frame all 4 starts on AW (at up to 7.2f) this winter and Ryan Moore an eyecatching booking for turf/handicap debut. Cheekpieces on first time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
CLASS MEMBER makes both her handicap and turf debut in first-time cheekpieces following a fair fourth at Chelmsford over 7f last month. She is fairly well-related and must hold every chance off what appears a feasible opening mark of 71, but the Roger Varian-trained Bonkersinabundance was only narrowly denied on her sole turf run at Brighton last October and can give the selection plenty to think about. Anieres Girl completes the shortlist.
Preference is for EURYTHMICAL, who didn't get the breaks on handicap debut at Wolverhampton in December and is bred to appreciate this stiffer test of stamina. Class Member and Ravigill head the list of dangers.
Perhaps EURYTHMICAL can benefit from cheekpieces after running below expectations on her handicap debut.

|PU| (8) (66/1 -230%) Horse Power |
66/1(-230%) | (8) Horse Power 66/1, Little promise in 2 bumpers/novice hurdles in 2022. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Slight preference is for SOLDAT FORTE, who ran a cracker when narrowly denied at Worcester last September and this appeals as an ideal opportunity on his first outing over hurdles. Great Samourai improved from first to second start when runner-up at Warwick last month and he must enter calculations, along with Bugle Major, who is well capable on the Flat but has yet to put it together in this sphere.
GREAT SAMOURAI left his hurdling debut form behind in a first-time tongue strap when runner-up at Warwick 3 weeks ago and, with further improvement on the cards, he's selected to go one better. Soldat Forte showed promise in a brace of bumpers last summer and ought to be up to making his presence felt in a race like this over hurdles. Newcomer Tommouse makes appeal on paper and requires a market check, also.
This looks a very good opportunity for GREAT SAMOURAI, who left his disappointing rules debut a long way behind when second at Warwick.

Coconut Bay |

Casa Luna |
(2) (25/1 -25%)25/1(-25%) | (2) Casa Luna 25/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Last of 7 in handicap (66/1) at Newcastle (10.2f) 34 days ago. Makes turf debut. Must improve. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Sugarpiehoneybunch got off the mark at the 18th time of asking when she swathed through with a late rattle over this trip at Thirsk eight days ago and is respected again, despite carrying a 5lb penalty. The versatile Lord Torranaga also enters calculations given that he is effective at this course and is on a handy mark. However, COCONUT BAY is unexposed on turf and she could have more to give now he's tried in a hood over a new trip.
With the Lucinda Russell team in very good form a chance is taken on handicap newcomer SCOTTISH WIND, with confidence in his chance increased should the betting vibes be strong. Trailblazer could be a threat if a disappointing run at Newcastle last time can be put down to the absence of headgear (back on now). Last week's Thirsk winner Sugarpiehoneybunch should also be competitive under a penalty.
With conditions in his favour, the unexposed SCOTTISH WIND (nap) is taken to get off the mark. Glory And Honour is next best.

(11) (40/1 -43%)40/1(-43%) | (11) Buachaill 40/1, Unreliable individual who was finally off the mark at Wolverhampton in March. Eased as though amiss back there a fortnight ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Only denied a double by half a length over a mile at Newcastle last month, ELEVEN ELEVEN can have another big say in proceedings on his turf debut here. He is now rated 8lb above his last winning all-weather mark, though, so the class-dropping Mabre should not be taken lightly and could also be thereabouts. Nine Elms is another who warrants a market check.
MABRE has enjoyed a productive period on the AW of late and would have finished closer with a clear run at Lingfield a fortnight ago. Equally effective on turf and with fitness on his side, he's the most persuasive option. Nine Elms and Eleven Eleven are feared most.
It might be worth chancing MORE DIAMONDS on her first run for James Ferguson and belatedly returning to genuine soft ground.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Gentleman Valley is still lightly raced over hurdles and could have a big impact in this company if he runs to the best of his ability. Hillfinch also warrants consideration in her bid to follow up last month's gutsy win at Huntingdon from just 3lb higher. However, ROCCO has been consistent since he reverted to timber just before Christmas and could be good value to exploit what looks to be lenient mark in comparison to his chase rating.
FREETHINKER hasn't looked back since the tongue strap went on and is fancied to complete a hat-trick with the form of his most recent Newcastle success having been franked. Kingsfort Hill is next on the list on the back of his recent C&D second, with eye-catching Bangor third Barony Legends and the handily-weighted Rocco two others who could have a say in an open handicap.
Dan Skelton's KINGSFORT HILL (nap) shaped very much as though his turn is near when a clear second over C&D last month.

RIVER USK showed ability in a couple of nurseries last autumn and looks an interesting proposition here. The son of Dandy Man resumes from the same mark as when he was a good third over 7f at Leicester last time out in October and, with the drop in trip likely to suit, he could take advantage from a handy draw. Tantalus has shown improvement on the all-weather and is feared most, while Silverlode could find more with first-time cheekpieces applied.
SHOT made a winning start for her new stable at Lingfield last time and Johnny Peate's claim amounts to more than the rise she's been handed, so she's worth a chance to follow up. Tantalus is in form and looks a danger, while River Usk can get involved if ready for this reappearance.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
In what could be a fast and furious five-furlong dash, it might pay to side with the David Loughnane-trained TOKYO DRIFT. The daughter of Showcasing is a half-sister to Star Of Lady M, who won her first two starts as a juvenile, and she should get a nice early position from stall three. Out Of The Stars makes plenty of appeal and she must be taken seriously for her in-form stable, while others to note include Rogue Dream and Ziggy's Phoenix.
A field of newcomers but Archie Watson has few peers when it comes to readying an early juvenile and OUT OF THE STARS should be fast if her pedigree is any guide. Amo Racing look to have a strong band of 2-y-os and Tokyo Drift is feared most.
The market should provide clues but at this stage the vote goes to OUT OF THE STARS ahead of Ziggy's Phoenix

Mole Court was the main beneficiary of a faller at the last when he won at Hereford in February but he is open to more improvement and is taken seriously. However, similar comments apply to CAN'T BEAT HISTORY, who only just failed to reward favourite backers when he was a close second over 2m3f at Doncaster last time. That was a notable improvement with the tongue-tie back on and he shades the nomination. Tedwin Hills and Miss Wachit complete the shortlist.
CAN'T BEAT HISTORY upped his game when runner-up in a handicap at Doncaster 49 days ago and, with more to come, he's fancied to go one better. Handicap-debutant Tedwin Hills is a danger and Mole Court deserves respect on the back of a victory at Hereford.
On the back of a solid maiden effort, TEDWIN HILLS could well make a successful handicap debut. Lough Carra is second choice.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Annie Law made a winning handicap debut over C&D in February and she merits the utmost respect with William Buick aboard, but a 7lb rise for that success would appear to be harsh. With that in mind, a chance is taken on ENBORNE. Andrew Balding's filly didn't show much in novice events but she's bred to be far better than an opening mark of 65 and it would be no surprise were she to take a step forward on her handicap bow. Topo Chico continues to run well in defeat and first-time cheekpieces could elicit further improvement.
ANNIE LAW saw off a trio of next-time winners when landing a C&D handicap in February and her revised mark probably underestimates her. Phoenix Glow and Topo Chico look the main threats.
With the form of her C&D success having substance, ANNIE LAW gets the vote. Enborne is second choice.

Jim Crowley was bullish regarding the prospects of YAANAAS in the aftermath of his debut success and the gelded son of Ulysses can follow up with further improvement highly likely. Quantico must carry a double penalty having won both of his starts, but he remains of significant interest. Orzo hasn't been seen since her 7f success in October 2021, but it's interesting that connections persist with this well-bred filly and any market support should be noted for her.
YAANAAS may not have made it to the track until this year, but the 4-y-o looked a good prospect when making a winning debut at Newcastle last month, scoring with plenty in hand having led on the bridle. He can follow up with improvement to come, though Quantico arrives having won both of his starts so isn't taken lightly. Timeless Melody completes the shortlist.
A fascinating race in which Roger Varian's recent debut winner YAANAAS gets the vote ahead of Quantico and Timeless Melody.

HIGH COURT JUDGE has been a revelation since joining the Henry Spiller stable and the hat-trick looks very much on the cards as he looks to supplement last month's success over C&D off 3lb lower. So Chic won well at Wolverhampton last time out and the step up in trip could eke out further improvement. Gold Aura and Kitaro Kich can also have a say in proceedings.
SO CHIC did well to get up from off the pace at Wolverhampton last time and still looks fairly treated after a 2 lb rise. Starlight Nation showed promise in his qualifying runs and can make his mark in handicaps so he's a possible danger. The hat-trick seeking High Court Judge completes the shortlist.
The vote goes to progressive gelding HIGH COURT JUDGE (nap), who made it 2-2 in handicaps with his win over C&D last month.

ARCTICIAN has been in terrific form of late and the step up in trip could unlock further improvement as Simon Dow's charge looks to bring up the hat-trick. His record around here bodes well and the five-year-old should have too much for Tollard Royal and Intercessor, who makes his seasonal return. Completing the shortlist are the likes of Darwell Lion, Fantasy Believer and Golden Sands.
TOLLARD ROYAL signed off 2022 with an excellent second at Beverley and he's already tasted success over C&D, so he takes marginal preference over Arctician, who scored at Lingfield a fortnight ago. Spinaround is another player on just his second outing for a shrewd stable.
It might be worth sticking with the resurgent ARCTICIAN, who has won from tough draws on Polytrack in his last two starts.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Runner-up on his last two outings, including once over C&D, WHERE'S TOM deserves a change in luck and he can get that on this occasion in a winnable contest. The hat-trick seeking Lednikov can give him the most to think about, ahead of Dynakite, who was a determined winner here over a shorter trip in January. Solanna and Trojan Truth cannot be ruled out either.
LEDNIKOV looked better than ever when landing a double at Southwell in December and, despite a 4-month break, he's worth a chance to complete the hat-trick on polytrack debut. Where's Tom looks a danger following a solid showing at Lingfield and Solanna always merits respect at this course.
5yo LEDNIKOV completed a double off only 1lb lower at Southwell in December and is a big player if he can pick up where he left off.
Ths is the racecard key.
