1st (9) ![]() Zenta |
3/1(-33%) | (9) Zenta 3/1, Useful winner at 18f over hurdles. 5/2, pulled up in Grade 2 chase at Cork (16.7f, good to soft) 59 days ago. Worth another chance. 143-rated hurdler but yet to show anything like that level of form chasing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) ![]() Karia Des Blaises |
9/2(+18%) | (10) Karia Des Blaises 9/2, Fairly useful chaser. Creditable second of 8 in novice chase (11/2) at Naas (20.1f, heavy) 31 days ago. Trainer going well. Another bold show likely. Plenty of chase promise but needs to jump better and settle over this longer trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) ![]() Paggane |
11/8(+0%) | (4) Paggane 11/8, Promising sort. 13/2, 3 lengths second of 7 to Bioluminescence in Grade 2 chase at Limerick (22.6f, soft) on debut over fences 40 days ago. Very much the one to beat. Chase debut second in a Grade 2 at Limerick makes her a leading player; handles heavy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (11) ![]() Miss Manzor |
11/1(+8%) | (11) Miss Manzor 11/1, Fairly useful hurdler. 13/2, sixth of 7 in novice chase at Cork (21.2f, soft) on debut over fences/return 54 days ago. Should progress. Let down by jumping on chase debut at Cork in December; yard have stronger contenders. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) ![]() True Testimony |
22/1(-38%) | (7) True Testimony 22/1, Lightly-raced maiden under NH rules. 7/2, good second of 14 in novice hurdle at this course (20f, heavy). Off 12 months. Makes chase debut. Improving maiden hurdler but good bit to find on ratings with some of these on chase bow. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) ![]() Iris Emery |
4/1(+50%) | (3) Iris Emery 4/1, Fairly useful chaser. 20/1, creditable third of 8 in novice chase at Naas (20.1f, heavy) 31 days ago. Stable in good form so she's one to consider. Fair level of form so far chasing but other likely stronger contenders from the yard here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) ![]() Shantou Princess |
50/1(-52%) | (5) Shantou Princess 50/1, Fair winner at 24f over hurdles. Pulled up in novice chase at Punchestown (22.7f, heavy, 2/1) on debut over fences 24 days ago, dropping away around 4 out. Poor recent chase debut; hard to be confident in despite the yard's excellent form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) ![]() Spanish Maid |
250/1(-150%) | (6) Spanish Maid 250/1, Modest hurdler. Tenth of 11 in novice chase (150/1) at this course (16.3f, soft) on debut over fences 20 days ago. Significantly up in trip. 90-rated maiden hurdler; never sighted on recent chase debut here; can only be watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) ![]() Whotookthebiscuit |
150/1(-127%) | (8) Whotookthebiscuit 150/1, Fair winner at 16f over hurdles. Tenth of 15 in novice chase (33/1) at Cork (20f, soft) 19 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Henry De Bromhead. Poor efforts on both attempts chasing for Henry de Bromhead; best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (1) ![]() Can't Stop Smiling |
33/1(0%) | (1) Can't Stop Smiling 33/1, Fairly useful winner at 17f over hurdles. 28/1, pulled up in novice chase at Limerick (17.7f, soft) on debut over fences 41 days ago. Up in trip. Long absent until chase debut at Christmas when badly hampered; best watched for now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (2) ![]() Fire Force |
250/1(-67%) | (2) Fire Force 250/1, Poor hurdler. Cheekpieces on for 1st time, tailed-off last of 5 to Dancing City in Grade 3 chase (250/1) at Naas (24.8f, heavy) 10 days ago. Low-grade maiden hurdler and nothing of note in two attempts chasing. |
ZENTA worryingly pulled up on her most recent start but is a Grade 1-winning juvenile hurdler. The selection scored at the top level at Aintree in April 2023, a month after her Triumph Hurdle placing, but has disappointed twice over fences. Her Ballinrobe defeat was underwhelming and while she jumped ok in a smart race at Cork in December, she faded tamely but she is much better than that showing. Paggane showed smart form on her chase debut when second in a Limerick Grade 2 over Christmas. She was comfortably held by smart prospect Bioluminescence that day and would struggle to beat an on-song Zenta. Karia Des Blaises attained a Grade 3 second on her chase debut, finishing a place ahead of the reopposing Iris Emery.
Willie Mullins holds a very strong hand and his PAGGANE is fancied to build on a highly promising debut second over fences at Limerick and go one better. Stablemates Karia des Blaises and Iris Emery can chase her home in that order.
Limerick second PAGGANE (nap) is preferred to the so far disappointing Zenta, a much better hurdler than the selection

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) ![]() Mighty Oak Lad |
9/5(+67%) | (4) Mighty Oak Lad 9/5, Fair winner at 24f over hurdles. Good third of 15 in novice chase (9/4) at Cork (20f, soft) 19 days ago, clear of rest. In the mix. Nose behind Gladys Max in 2m4f Cork beginners' on latest; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (11) ![]() Spellacy's Cross |
25/1(0%) | (11) Spellacy's Cross 25/1, Good third of 6 in handicap hurdle at Limerick (16f, heavy, 33/1) 8 days ago. Makes chase debut. Significantly back up in trip. Respected. Low-grade hurdler looks an unlikely one to make an immediate impact chasing (2lb wrong). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) ![]() Glady Max |
9/2(+10%) | (3) Glady Max 9/2, 9/2, good second of 15 in novice chase at Cork (20f, soft) 19 days ago. Makes handicap chase debut. Merits consideration. Recent Cork beginners second; handles heavy and could go well here on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) ![]() Oneforgonzo |
12/1(+14%) | (7) Oneforgonzo 12/1, Pulled up in novice chase at Tramore (15.5f, heavy, 14/1) 35 days ago, pulled up before last. Significantly back up in trip. Makes handicap chase debut. Remains likely to improve. Well held in three runs over fences but potentially well treated now entering handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) ![]() Look Dont Touch |
40/1(-21%) | (2) Look Dont Touch 40/1, Eleventh of 16 in hunter chase at Limerick (22.6f, soft, 80/1) 38 days ago. Points' winner in October but well held on track return in Limerick hunters chase. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) ![]() Malinas Glory |
12/1(-50%) | (6) Malinas Glory 12/1, One win from 24 NH runs. 9/2, pulled up in handicap chase at Thurles (25.1f, good) 46 days ago. Needs a couple of these to falter. Lame when pulled up latest; respected on previous Thurles win though and handles heavy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (12) ![]() Thelonglad |
11/2(+8%) | (12) Thelonglad 11/2, Promising sort. 15/2, going well in front when fell 2 out in handicap chase at Limerick (17.7f, soft) on debut over fences 41 days ago. Up in trip. Can gain compensation now. Faller two out when likely winner at Limerick; 2lb wrong but big player if staying trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) ![]() Rochestown |
12/1(-167%) | (5) Rochestown 12/1, Career best when readily winning 15-runner handicap hurdle at Tramore (21.6f, heavy, 7/4) 35 days ago. Switches to fences now and enters calculations. Tramore specialist; not sure this more galloping track will suit but respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) ![]() Duffys Getaway |
12/1(+14%) | (10) Duffys Getaway 12/1, Fair winner at 24f over hurdles. Pulled up in handicap chase (9/1) at Limerick (22.6f, soft) 38 days ago, pulled up approaching 2 out. Staying hurdler likes heavy; nothing yet chasing but potentially exploitable mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (1) ![]() Ringdufferin |
28/1(+15%) | (1) Ringdufferin 28/1, Fairly useful winner at 24f over hurdles. Sixth of 8 in handicap chase at Punchestown (22.7f, heavy, 25/1) 24 days ago. More is needed. Drops in grade here and goes well on heavy so don't rule out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (9) ![]() Dawn Escape |
14/1(+44%) | (9) Dawn Escape 14/1, 12/1, below-form fourth of 12 in handicap chase at Navan (20.6f, good to soft) 52 days ago. Others more persuasive. Potential improver back on heavy ground. |
THELONGLAD showed precious little prior to an improved effort over Christmas and he could win from his revised rating. A fourth-placed finish in November 2023 had previously been his best hurdles effort but he showed better form on chase debut at Limerick, when travelling well before falling at the second-last fence. He has been raised 2lb and is a further 2lb out of the handicap but his rider again claims 5lb. Dual point-to-point winner Glady Max finished second at Cork last month (Mighty Oak Lad third) and while he is rated 11lb higher in this sphere than over hurdles, he should prove competitive. Rochestown has good recent hurdle form and warrants respect as he reverts to fences.
THELONGLAD looked set to make a winning chase debut when coming down 2 out at Limerick and is fancied to make amends here. Mighty Oak Lad could emerge as the chief threat on the back of his good Cork third, with Rochestown and Glady Max also in the picture.
Slight preference is for QUORNOFAMONDAY, who looked to be improving at Down Royal last time

1st (5) ![]() Ridin Solo |
13/8(+7%) | (5) Ridin Solo 13/8, Fair hurdler. Cheekpieces on for 1st time when creditable fifth of 12 in handicap hurdle (10/1) at Catterick (19.3f, good) 14 days ago. Well in the mix. 0-7 over hurdles but scores high marks for consistency; major player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) ![]() Laravie |
13/8(+64%) | (10) Laravie 13/8, Fair ex-Irish hurdler. Cheekpieces on for 1st time when a fair seventh of 10 in handicap hurdle at Fakenham (20f, good to soft) 17 days ago. The form pick back in maiden company. Ran well to a point in quite valuable Fakenham handicap last month; will find this easier. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) ![]() Rock On Cowboy |
9/1(+36%) | (6) Rock On Cowboy 9/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 6/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, sixth of 7 in handicap hurdle at Huntingdon (20.7f, soft). Off 22 months. First run for yard after leaving Ben Pauling with his fitness to prove. Placed in 2m4f novice for Ben Pauling in 2022; makes stable debut after long absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) ![]() Jack's Jury |
14/1(-17%) | (3) Jack's Jury 14/1, €65,000 3-y-o, Jukebox Jury gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including useful hurdler/fairly useful chaser Jimmy Two Times and fair hurdler Edvardo. Last of 6 finishers sole start in Irish points in March. Sixth of nine on Irish point debut last March; joined this yard for £42,000 last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) ![]() Synchronist |
28/1(+58%) | (8) Synchronist 28/1, Runner-up in an Irish point but well held switched to Rules in maiden hurdles at Lingfield and Uttoxeter this winter. Blinkers are reached for now. Second in an Irish point last year but soundly beaten in two maiden hurdles in December. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) ![]() Bodygroove |
33/1(-230%) | (2) Bodygroove 33/1, Fair 14f Flat winner but pulled up in 2m maiden hurdle at Wetherby when last seen in this sphere last March. Off 8 months and needs to hit the ground running. Went close in modest Carlisle maiden last February but pulled up on next hurdling start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) ![]() Smart Bucks |
80/1(-400%) | (7) Smart Bucks 80/1, Fair form first two runs in bumpers but only fifth of 6 at Catterick (15.7f, good) 50 days ago. More is required on his hurdles debut. Showed only minor promise in three bumpers towards end of last year; hurdle debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) ![]() Slemish |
66/1(-313%) | (11) Slemish 66/1, 17/2, fifth of 6 in bumper at Ffos Las (15.8f, heavy) on debut 48 days ago. Makes hurdles debut and needs to take a step forward. Fifth of six in heavy-ground Ffos Las bumper in December; hurdle debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) ![]() Marquee Lights |
250/1(+0%) | (4) Marquee Lights 250/1, Last of 11 in novice hurdle (400/1) at Newcastle (16.9f, good to soft) 20 days ago. Hard to warm to. Yet to show any promise after three hurdling starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (1) ![]() Bobby J |
250/1(-25%) | (1) Bobby J 250/1, 125/1, pulled up in novice hurdle at Hexham (20.1f, soft) on NH debut 56 days ago. Lots more is required. Struggled to get competitive when a big-priced outsider for debut at Hexham. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) ![]() Kalo Athena |
9/2(-50%) | (9) Kalo Athena 9/2, £38,000 5-y-o, Soldier of Fortune mare. Dual-point winner who shaped like a stayer when sixth of 11 in bumper at Carlisle (17.2f, good to soft) on NH debut 86 days ago. No forlorn hope now going hurdling. 2-2 in Irish points; respectable sixth in a bumper on rules debut; up in trip today. |
Not beaten far in a Catterick handicap recently, RIDIN SOLO may appreciate a return to maiden hurdle company and this appeals as an ideal opportunity to get off the mark at the eighth time of asking under Rules. Laravie hasn't shown much in two outings since joining the James Owen stable, but she can do better. Kalo Athena could be interesting on her timber bow.
Not as competitive as the numbers suggest and LARAVIE is fancied to build on her Fakenham seventh for her new yard and gain a first win now she has her sights lowered. Ridin Solo is next on the list on the back of his solid Catterick fifth, with points scorer Kalo Athena another to consider now starting out hurdling.
Preference is for LARAVIE, who ran well for a long way in a fairly valuable mares' handicap at Fakenham last month.

![]() Ramaah |
(8) 80/1(+0%) | (8) Ramaah 80/1, Modest winner at 13f on Flat for Ismail Mohammed but yet to match that form in 3 starts over hurdles, again finishing well held when fifth of 9 in maiden at Huntingdon 13 days ago. Modest 1m5f Flat winner; soundly beaten at triple-figure odds on three starts over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (2) ![]() Viyanni |
2/7(+61%) | (2) Viyanni 2/7, Fair winner on Flat for John Patrick Murtagh. Has taken well to hurdling following a 5-month absence, winning a Market Rasen juvenile in December and building on that promise when third at Ascot 18 days ago. The one to beat with further improvement to come. Front-running 3rd to top prospect at Ascot (good) is easily the best hurdles form in this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) ![]() Mister Cessna |
7/1(-155%) | (1) Mister Cessna 7/1, Fairly useful juvenile hurdle winner in France and close third over fences in August. After 5 months off, stiff task on stable debut when pulled up in Finale Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow in December, but he's one to note back in calmer waters. Hurdle winner in France; pulled up at 40-1 when making British debut in a Grade 2. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) ![]() El Gavilan |
9/1(-38%) | (4) El Gavilan 9/1, Fair form over hurdles in France, runner-up to a subsequent listed winner on debut. Below that level in 2 starts for current yard, but showed more than on stable debut when second of 5 at Fontwell on Boxing Day. Could have more to offer with tongue tie applied. Ex-French; second of three finishers at Fontwell (2m2f, soft) on second run in Britain. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) ![]() Cracker Star |
10/1(+17%) | (3) Cracker Star 10/1, Fairly useful Flat winner for Richard Hughes but below expectations both starts over hurdles for current yard, in cheekpieces (had worn on the level) when well-beaten third at Musselburgh last time. Has something to find but he's clearly thought capable of better. Fair Flat form at up to 1m4f, modest when fading in his two races over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) ![]() Flash In The Pan |
150/1(-50%) | (5) Flash In The Pan 150/1, Bred for the Flat and finished well held in an Exeter bumper on debut. Fared no better sent hurdling when fifth of 6 in junior event at Chepstow 8 days ago, so he looks to be up against it. Beaten 43l in a bumper at Exeter (soft) and 32l on hurdling debut at Chepstow (2m, heavy). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) ![]() I Love Paris |
150/1(-200%) | (10) I Love Paris 150/1, Fair maiden on Flat for Ed Walker but refused early on when making her debut in this sphere at Leicester in November. Tailed off when pulled up 2 out at Newbury next time, before refusing to line up prior to latest intended outing. Fair maiden on Flat but failed to complete her two starts over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) ![]() Like Magic |
22/1(+12%) | (7) Like Magic 22/1, Seemingly fairly useful form on Flat in Germany for Henk Grewe, successful twice from 5 starts including minor event at Dortmund in March. Off 7 months ahead of going hurdling on first run for yard. 2-5 on Flat when trained in Germany; makes British/hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) ![]() Hello Sweety |
50/1(-25%) | (9) Hello Sweety 50/1, Placed on Flat in Poland first 3 starts, though little impact in 3 outings for Alicja Karkosa in France subsequently. Offered little for new yard when seventh of 9 in handicap at Lingfield in January, so has something to prove as she goes hurdling. Ex-Polish and French maiden on Flat, fair at her best; well beaten on British Flat debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) ![]() Kotgar |
20/1(-43%) | (6) Kotgar 20/1, Fair maiden on Flat in France, making the frame all 5 starts at up to 10.5f. Left his hurdling debut effort behind when second of 5 in juvenile at this C&D (good to soft) 3 months ago, though will need to find more again in this contest. 2nd of five over C&D (good) three months ago but needs to take another major step forward. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) ![]() Mahpenny |
200/1(-100%) | (11) Mahpenny 200/1, Third of 6 in junior bumper at Newcastle on debut, albeit never a threat, but jumped sketchily when pulled up at Musselburgh on hurdles bow in November. First run for yard after leaving R. Mike Smith. Did not show much in November in a bumper or on hurdling debut; has left Mike Smith. |
VIYANNI made a successful start over hurdles at Market Rasen before stepping up on that effort in one of the stronger juvenile contests run this season when third to Lulamba at Ascot. Connections might have an eye on Cheltenham for the Boodles next month and this appears to be a fine opportunity for him to progress further. Mister Cessna pulled up in the Finale at Chepstow on his UK bow and will find this easier. El Gavilan and Kotgar appear best of the remainder.
VIYANNI has made a promising start over hurdles, successful at Market Rasen before bumping into two good prospects at Ascot last time, so he looks to hold leading claims of resuming winning ways. The biggest threat could come from Mister Cessna, who was pitched in at the deep end on his stable/hurdling debut, ahead of El Gavilan.
Mister Cessna could prove a different proposition this time but VIYANNI should be tough to beat judged on what he showed at Ascot.

1st (5) ![]() Sa Majeste |
11/10(+51%) | (5) Sa Majeste 11/10, Useful winner over hurdles at up to 20f and confirmed chase debut promise when landing 6-runner Tipperary maiden (23.5f) in November. Not in same form when fifth in Limerick Grade 1 (19.5f) 39 days ago but it remains early days with him and this less demanding. Player. Useful hurdler, has made a bright start over fences but well beaten in Limerick Grade 1. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) ![]() Affordale Fury |
2/1(+56%) | (3) Affordale Fury 2/1, Made up into a decidedly useful staying novice over hurdles in 2023 and perfect start when successful over fences at Galway (22.5f) in October of that year. Absent since pulled up in Grade 2 final start that year but he remains with potential and he's worth a look on return. High-class staying novice hurdler two seasons ago, novice chase campaign was cut short. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) ![]() Fil Dor |
15/2(-329%) | (1) Fil Dor 15/2, Smart chaser. Six wins from 22 NH runs. Latest win in chase at Thurles in November. 13¼ lengths fourth of 7 to Appreciate It in Kinloch Brae Chase back at that venue (20.9f, good, 11/4) 17 days ago. Possibilities on first crack at 3m. Former top-class juvenile hurdler, smart chaser though 2-12 record is somewhat off-putting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) ![]() Any Second Now |
8/1(-7%) | (4) Any Second Now 8/1, One-time top-class chaser, placed in Grand National at Aintree in 2021 (unlucky) and 2022. Down the field in 4 starts initially last term but resurgent when finishing a smashing second in Irish equivalent here in April. No forlorn hope if arriving in same form after 10 months off. Twice placed in Grand National, gallant second in last season's Irish Grand National. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) ![]() Minella Crooner |
11/1(-10%) | (2) Minella Crooner 11/1, Returned to form from out of the blue when narrowly winning Pat Taaffe Chase at Punchestown in May. However, he's far from reliable and not been in anything like the same form in pair of starts so far this winter. First-time blinkers replace usual cheekpieces and that could perk him up. Punchestown festival handicap winner, well below best this term, first-time blinkers. |
AFFORDALE FURY has been absent for 438 days but has been a non-runner twice since Christmas so is likely to be near peak fitness. Runner-up in the 2023 Albert Bartlett Hurdle, he won smartly on his Galway chase debut in October 2023 before presumably suffering an injury in a subsequent Grade 2 contest. Withdrawn from two recent good-ground engagements, he now competes against more exposed types. Fil Dor has been running well in smart races recently and is dependable, but has top-weight and tries this distance for the first time. Sa Majeste might benefit from stepping up to this distance but needs to improve, while admirable veteran Any Second Now may be best watched on his seasonal reappearance.
In a tricky small-field affair the answer could be SA MAJESTE. A winner on his second chase start at Tipperary in November, Willie Mullins' low-mileage 7-y-o will find this less demanding than his latest Grade 1 assignment over Christmas and ought to have more to offer back over this longer trip. Affordale Fury is interesting despite his lengthy absence and is the threat ahead of Fil Dor.
It may be worth taking a chance with the long-absent AFFORDALE FURY. He has been ready to run for a while and is an established stayer

1st (10) ![]() Ocean Legacy |
9/1(+25%) | (10) Ocean Legacy 9/1, Winless since May 2023. Respectable third in a course chase on her first run for Rebecca Menzies but has pulled up over fences in her 2 starts since. Possible a return to hurdles and first-time blinkers could spark her back to life. Third over fences on stable debut but pulled up twice since; now back hurdling in blinkers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) ![]() Zwicky |
11/4(+8%) | (2) Zwicky 11/4, Course hurdle and chase winner and added to his good Sedgefield record when second over fences 10 days ago. Slightly lower mark back hurdling and a bold bid is anticipated. Second in recent 3m2f chase here and reverts to hurdling on a good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) ![]() Rumble B |
15/2(+38%) | (7) Rumble B 15/2, Notched 3 wins in the first half of 2024 (including C&D) but not at best in 2 comeback outings over 25f at Catterick in recent months, finishing a remote third latterly. Not at best lately but won three times in 2024 and is back on a workable mark now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) ![]() Tan Law |
50/1(-317%) | (4) Tan Law 50/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 20/1, well held on 2m Ayr handicap debut 16 days ago and it remains to be seen whether this significantly longer trip is what's required. Tailed off over 2m on recent handicap debut; hiked up in trip today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) ![]() Twp Stori |
4/1(-20%) | (5) Twp Stori 4/1, Got back to winning ways in 23f Lingfield handicap last month. Respectable fourth of 14 over 23f at Uttoxeter (heavy) since. Likely to be in the shake-up again. Stout stayer; slightly disappointing last time but Lingfield win two starts ago was a PB. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) ![]() Community Rebel |
20/1(-43%) | (1) Community Rebel 20/1, Point winner who landed a 3m Musselburgh maiden hurdle in January 2023 but no promise in 2 handicaps in a very light career since. Hood off. Brian Hughes takes the ride again but can still only be watched. Soundly beaten last month, after a long layoff; current ability hard to gauge. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) ![]() Royle Steel |
15/2(+73%) | (11) Royle Steel 15/2, Yet to fire this term, finishing a well-held seventh of 16 in 3m Wetherby handicap hurdle over Christmas. Not easy to make a case for. Runs this track well but has not been firing on all cylinders for a good while now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) ![]() Dequall |
20/1(-67%) | (9) Dequall 20/1, Twenty six runs since last win in 2021. Placed twice over 23f at Hexham in the autumn but ran one of his moody races back there in December. Has blinkers swapped for cheekpieces. Placed twice at Hexham in the autumn but remains without a win since 2021. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) ![]() Walk My Way |
25/1(+38%) | (12) Walk My Way 25/1, Poor form, although she likely would have won at Hexham last March but for losing momentum at the last. Hasn't managed to get competitive in her 2 runs this winter, though, and can be opposed from 5 lb out of the handicap. 0-7 over hurdles; 5lb out of the weights and needs improvement over the new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) ![]() The Questioner |
7/2(+0%) | (3) The Questioner 7/2, Hurdle/chaser winner who showed he retains ability on his second run back after an absence when third of 10 in 3m Wetherby handicap hurdle 13 days ago. Would have been a bit closer but for a bad mistake 2 out and merits respect with this return to a slightly longer trip in his favour. Quickly back in the groove with good third last month, his second run after a layoff. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (6) ![]() On We Go |
50/1(-257%) | (6) On We Go 50/1, Largely struggled since landing a 3m Ayr handicap 2 years ago. Did stop the slide when third in this race 12 months ago but not seen again until well held at Newcastle 3 weeks ago. Needs to have come on a lot. Placed in this race a year ago but generally very disappointing over last couple of years. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (8) ![]() Agirlcalledchloe |
28/1(+15%) | (8) Agirlcalledchloe 28/1, Remains a maiden under Rules and has pulled up in chases on last 4 starts, the last 2 for new trainer Joanne Foster. The yard did win this race last year but she's hard to make a good case for on this first hurdle start for well over 2 years. 0-30 under rules; out of sorts when pulled up in two chases for new stable in December. |
A creditable third over 3m at Wetherby on his second run back from a long absence, THE QUESTIONER looks primed for a big performance off an unchanged mark. Stepping up in trip will suit the nine-year-old and he may have too much for Zwicky, who goes back over hurdles and has a good record here. Twp Stori has strong claims if bouncing back to the form that saw him score at Lingfield on his penultimate start.
ZWICKY seems to like it here and can take advantage of his slightly lower hurdle mark. This stamina test should suit The Questioner and he's feared most ahead of Sam Drinkwater's Twp Stori.
This could be a good opportunity for THE QUESTIONER (nap), who remains well handicapped after last month's Wetherby third.

1st (7) ![]() Jasmine Bliss |
11/10(+0%) | (7) Jasmine Bliss 11/10, Irish point winner who also won twice in bumpers. Shaped well when a clear second at Lingfield on hurdling debut in November, before failing to meet expectations when fourth at Ffos Las (20f, heavy) last time. Worth another chance given her previous promise. Big player judged on bumpers and hurdle debut; she flopped on latest start, however. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) ![]() Betty's Tiara |
11/2(0%) | (1) Betty's Tiara 11/2, Runner-up twice from 3 starts over hurdles last term, but failed to come on for this season's return when fifth of 8 on handicap debut at Taunton (19f, good to soft) 37 days ago. However, she was ridden more patiently last time and could fare better back in a maiden. Runner-up on two of three hurdling starts last season, which she has not matched this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (11) ![]() Sea Presenting |
9/4(-13%) | (11) Sea Presenting 9/4, Third on sole start in points and shaped encouragingly on Rules debut when third of 10 in mares' novice hurdle at Warwick (19f, good to soft) 16 days ago, staying on well. Open to improvement so she's not taken lightly. A leading contender after close third at Warwick (2m3f) and she showed plenty of promise.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) ![]() Hot Goddess |
13/2(-18%) | (6) Hot Goddess 13/2, Only modest form when placed once from 3 starts in bumpers, but sent hurdling she showed much more when third of 13 in a Chepstow maiden (19.4f, good to soft) in October. Could be in the mix with her latest effort behind her. Needs to improve markedly but, unlike a lot of these, she's shown she has some ability. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) ![]() Ramalamadingdong |
50/1(-178%) | (10) Ramalamadingdong 50/1, Well held in bumper on debut and ran to only a modest level when fifth of 11 in mares' maiden at Southwell (20.4f, good to soft) on hurdles bow in December. Looks one for the longer term. Potential in her pedigree and a whiff of ability on hurdle debut; much better is needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) ![]() Hello Marie |
150/1(-88%) | (4) Hello Marie 150/1, Beat one other finisher when winning an Irish point and has finished well held in all 3 of her starts under Rules, weakening quickly in mares' novice at Warwick (19f, good to soft) 16 days ago. Irish maiden point winner whose three efforts under rules left a lot to be desired. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) ![]() Clashmore Banter |
200/1(-203%) | (2) Clashmore Banter 200/1, Didn't offer much in points and was beaten a long way when sixth of 12 in maiden at Taunton (19f, good to soft) on hurdling debut 18 days ago. Faces a tough ask. 0-4 in Irish points and 53l defeat in maiden hurdle at Taunton (2m3f; 250-1). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|B| (9) ![]() Pooley's Promise |
80/1(0%) | (9) Pooley's Promise 80/1, Little promise sole outing in bumpers and it has been a similar story in 2 starts over hurdles, losing touch from 4 out when ninth of 10 in mares' novice at Warwick (19f, good to soft) 16 days ago. Triple-figure odds, down the field in a bumper and two novice hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (8) ![]() Minneigh Mozze |
300/1(-100%) | (8) Minneigh Mozze 300/1, Down the field in 2 bumpers for this yard before making little impact over hurdles for Sheila Lewis, pulled up in mares' handicap at Newton Abbot (21.6f, good to soft) in July. Returns in first-time tongue tie having re-joined former stable. Probably no worthwhile form after two bumpers and five hurdle races; now tongue tied. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) ![]() Hit For Sixty |
80/1(-60%) | (5) Hit For Sixty 80/1, In need of experience of sole outing in bumpers and fared no better than on hurdling debut when pulled up in mares' novice at Warwick (21, soft) in December. Likely to need more time. Beaten 11l when eighth of ten in Ascot bumper but major work to do after two hurdle races. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) ![]() Countess Vicky |
300/1(-20%) | (3) Countess Vicky 300/1, Tailed off on her only completed start over hurdles so far. Pulled up in novice at Ffos Las (21.9f, good to soft) on her latest outing in May and she's best watched after 9 months off. Achieved very little over hurdles in her four races. |
JASMINE BLISS may have had excuses when a beaten favourite at Ffos Las last month, with the yard form dropping off for a brief spell. However, the six-year-old, a dual bumper winner who finished runner-up to a subsequent Listed winner at Lingfield on her hurdling debut, gets the vote to show her true colours. Sea Presenting made a promising start under Rules when third at Warwick and is capable of being the main threat. Hot Goddess completes the shortlist.
Having won twice in bumpers, JASMINE BLISS made a promising start over hurdles when bumping into a next-time-out listed winner at Lingfield in November, so she is worth forgiving her latest effort and is taken to open her account in this sphere. Sea Presenting made an encouraging hurdles debut and is respected, with Betty's Tiara completing the shortlist.
Given Jasmine Bliss's capitulation last time at Ffos Las, the vote goes to SEA PRESENTING who shaped well at Warwick.

1st (4) ![]() Collaborative |
10/1(-82%) | (4) Collaborative 10/1, Fair hurdler. 1 win from 3 runs this season. 6/1, career best when winning 11-runner handicap hurdle at Navan (20f, soft) 18 days ago. Player. Handicap win was gained over 2m4f at Navan, possibly vulnerable over this shorter trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) ![]() Puturhandstogether |
3/1(-33%) | (5) Puturhandstogether 3/1, Promising type. 1 win from 2 runs this season. Fairly useful winner at 10f on flat. Won 20-runner juvenile hurdle (4/1) at Cork (15.7f, soft) 59 days ago, cosily. Has to be taken seriously. Useful 84-rated Flat winner, improved from his hurdling debut to win at Cork, good chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) ![]() Whimsy |
14/1(-155%) | (3) Whimsy 14/1, Fair hurdler. Third of 4 in novice hurdle at Cheltenham (16.4f, good to soft, 6/4) 80 days ago, unsuited by way race developed. Not taken lightly. 3-14 on Flat, 0-9 hurdles second on five occasions, may be able to make experience count. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) ![]() Butter Fingers |
14/1(-65%) | (6) Butter Fingers 14/1, Modest Flat winner. Thrice-raced winner over hurdles. 1 win from 3 runs this season. Winner in hurdle at Tipperary in July. Fourth of 6 in juvenile hurdle at this C&D (good to soft, 9/2) 25 days ago. Flat/hurdles winner last summer, needs to jump better than when fourth of six over C&D. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) ![]() Gers Gigi |
20/1(-186%) | (2) Gers Gigi 20/1, Fairly useful hurdler. Latest win in hurdle at Sligo in August. 5/1, good third of 9 in handicap hurdle at Cork (20f, soft) 19 days ago, travelling as well as any. Needs considering back down in trip. Bumper/maiden hurdle winner, missed an engagement at Punchestown on Monday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) ![]() Ballysax Hank |
8/13(+88%) | (1) Ballysax Hank 8/13, Fairly useful hurdler. Bit below form eighth of 19 in novice hurdle (17/2) at Punchestown (19.1f, soft) 57 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Brendan Duke. Bumper winner for Brendan Duke has run well in two of his three hurdle starts, new yard. |
BALLYSAX HANK debuts for new connections dropping in distance and should have more room for progression, being a big chasing type. His form is mostly on good ground but has been placed on an easy surface in the past and while he was well held at Punchestown in December, he hung left there and was unsuited by competing around the inner loop. That form has worked out extremely well, as recent big-race winner McLaurey finished third. Puturhandstogether will probably have the Fred Winter Hurdle in mind after this run and won nicely at Cork in December. The runner-up and fifth from that race have scored subsequently, while Collaborative has useful recent handicap form.
Not much between these but PUTURHANDSTOGETHER looks to have the most potential after his much-improved win at Cork. Gers Gigi is next best ahead of Collaborative.
This looks open and none of the six could be safely ruled out. A hopeful vote goes to WHIMSY who has plenty of experience

1st (3) ![]() Master Breffni |
11/8(+45%) | (3) Master Breffni 11/8, A fair winner at 19f over hurdles and he's resumed in good order in this sphere, albeit somehow managing to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory when runner-up at Catterick (15.6f) 5 weeks ago having tied up on run-in. Should be thereabouts again. Succumbed on run-in after looking likely winner last month; competes off same mark today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) ![]() Sabbathical |
9/1(-13%) | (4) Sabbathical 9/1, Successful 3 times over fences at around 2m during 2022/23. Shaped as if retaining some ability back from 20 months off when third over hurdles at Fakenham (2m) in December but backward step when well beaten at Ffos Las 25 days ago. Switch back to chasing may help now, though. Back from long layoff with two below-par hurdle runs but reverts to fences on good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) ![]() Tom Creen |
2/1(-45%) | (1) Tom Creen 2/1, Boasts an excellent record at this track, making it course win number 5 from the front over 19.3f 6 weeks ago. This is his first crack at 2m in this sphere but no surprise to see another bold showing under a positive ride. Shortlisted. Game winner from the front here (2m3f) on Boxing Day; drop back to 2m may not be ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (6) ![]() Natural Ability |
6/1(-71%) | (6) Natural Ability 6/1, Winless over hurdles/fences in Ireland but did manage to build on previous promise to shed maiden tag for new stable over C&D in November. Not in same form when fifth of 8 in handicap chase at Catterick (19.2f) last month (reportedly bled) but he could well bounce back. Scored over C&D on stable debut and had excuse when below form last time (bled). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (5) ![]() Jeu Sacre |
17/2(+58%) | (5) Jeu Sacre 17/2, Fair form over hurdles and fences in France but well beaten in 3 hurdles for current yard during second half of last season. Too soon to be writing off now returned to chasing on return to action but would need to see market support to consider. Tongue tie refitted. Ex-French maiden; makes British chasing debut after a layoff; might need this run. |
TOM CREEN wasn't for catching when making all over an extended 2m3f here on Boxing Day and dropping back in trip should not inconvenience him as he attempts to follow up off 3lb higher. Sam England's charge gets the vote ahead of Master Breffni, who bounced back to form with a decent runner-up effort at Catterick. C&D winner Natural Ability is another to bear in mind.
The wonderfully consistent TOM CREEN made it course win number 5 under a positive ride 6 weeks ago and similar tactics dropped back in trip here should see him a tough nut to crack once more. Recent Catterick second Master Breffni rates next best ahead of Natural Ability, whilst market support for either Sabbathical or Jeu Sacre would look significant.
This might be best left to NATURAL ABILITY, who was a good C&D winner on his stable debut and can be excused his subsequent flop.

13/2(0%) | (13) Faitque De L'isle 13/2, On a long losing run but backed up previous effort when third from 3 lb out of the handicap at Leicester 2 weeks ago so not taken lightly racing off his proper mark. 10yo with poor strike-rate but fair efforts the last twice and has an each-way shout. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) ![]() Simple Getaway |
5/2(+38%) | (3) Simple Getaway 5/2, Fetched £180,000 after winning an Irish point but only minor promise on second of his 3 hurdle starts during 2023/24. Type to make a better chaser and offered something to work on when fourth at Exeter on return/handicap bow. Entitled to progress. Point winner who could improve for last month's chase/handicap debut fourth at Exeter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) ![]() Iron D'ex |
5/1(0%) | (4) Iron D'ex 5/1, Made a winning start over fences at Ludlow in October and decent efforts in defeat last 2 starts. In the mix if the rain stays away. Course winner who ran well at Hereford last time and this new trip could be within range. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (12) ![]() Fashion's Model |
33/1(+34%) | (12) Fashion's Model 33/1, Sent chasing last season, off the mark on final start of the campaign at Wincanton (20.2f, heavy) in April. No show in a handful of runs so far this term, though, and different headgear now given a whirl. Runs off last winning mark but hasn't got competitive this season; blinkers go on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) ![]() Coal Fire |
13/2(+46%) | (8) Coal Fire 13/2, Twice a winner over hurdles for Peter Bowen in 2023 but pulled up sole start over fences. Off 15 months ahead of first start for this yard. Returns from absence but on a handy mark; one to watch in the betting on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) ![]() Mistymal |
9/1(-80%) | (9) Mistymal 9/1, Irish point winner who made a winning chasing debut at Hereford in October, forging clear run-in. Went like the best horse at the weights when finishing a close third there next time but proved a complete let-down tried in headgear at Southwell. Worth another chance. Fine start to chase career and may not have taken to cheekpieces when pulled up last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) ![]() Tout Sur Moi |
4/1(+11%) | (1) Tout Sur Moi 4/1, Showed promise in bumpers and also displayed a fair level of ability in 5 runs over hurdles. Encouraging start over fences when fourth at Taunton but failed to meet expectations there next time. Worth another chance. Made it 0-9 when below par latest but has edged down the weights & wind op may have helped. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) ![]() Carpe Diem |
28/1(-75%) | (7) Carpe Diem 28/1, Promise in maiden hurdles last summer before a lesser effort on handicap debut over fences at Huntingdon. Well held back from an absence at Uttoxeter 7 weeks ago and has enough to prove. Well beaten on comeback in December but this 7yo still has time on his side; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) ![]() Higgs |
50/1(-25%) | (11) Higgs 50/1, Went through a good spell in May, scoring at Uttoxeter and Ffos Las. Arrives here on a poor run of form, however, so others preferred. Won two in a row last May but pulled up on his last three starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (2) ![]() Jessie Lightfoot |
9/1(+36%) | (2) Jessie Lightfoot 9/1, Revitalised by a return to Henry Oliver last spring, scoring over fences at Taunton and Southwell. Was holding her form well after but last 2 starts suggests she's gone off the boil. Tongue strap on 1st time. Engaged 3.45 Market Rasen Tuesday. On a competitive mark but below par the last twice; wears a first-time tongue-tie. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) ![]() Streamsforth Lad |
12/1(-71%) | (10) Streamsforth Lad 12/1, Showed ability in bumpers but little solid form over hurdles, including starting out for this yard at Bangor on return. Goes up in trip for chase debut. 0-8 and hasn't achieved much, but market check advised on chase debut, following wind op. |
SIMPLE GETAWAY appeared to need his return to action at Exeter when shaping well for a fair way before getting tired in the closing stages. The seven-year-old was dropped 4lb for that effort, which gives him a strong chance on this occasion, especially with the run under his belt. Stepping up in trip may see Iron D'ex in a better light after his fourth at Hereford. Tout Sur Moi isn't discounted following wind surgery.
TOUT SUR MOI is given another chance to confirm chase debut promise back down in class. The unexposed Simple Getaway is a potential threat along with Faitque de l'Isle back off his proper mark.
The very lightly raced 7yo SIMPLE GETAWAY is open to improvement on this second chase start and gets the nod ahead of Mistymal.

Dam was of little account but is a half-sister to the smart Turpin Green, top connections. |

7/2(+42%) | (9) Sundance Sioux 7/2, Fairly useful maiden on the Flat. Promising type. Fourth of 14 in juvenile hurdle at Punchestown (16.4f, soft, 25/1) on NH debut 23 days ago. Should progress. Fair maiden on the Flat, went closest at this venue, made a satisfactory hurdling debut. |

16/1(+20%) | (4) Hobart 16/1, Fair maiden on the Flat. Once-raced maiden. Fifth of 6 in juvenile hurdle at this C&D (good to soft, 40/1) on NH debut 25 days ago. Down the field in two Flat maidens, set a stiff task on hurdling debut; improvement likely. |

|S| (7) ![]() Nobody |
100/1(+0%) | (7) Nobody 100/1, Modest maiden on the Flat. Once-raced maiden. Hooded for 1st time, sixth of 11 in novice hurdle (100/1) at Cork (16.9f, soft) on NH debut 19 days ago, considerately handled. Low-rated handicapper on the Flat, remote sixth but not disgraced on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (13) ![]() Phoenix Princess |
250/1(-279%) | (13) Phoenix Princess 250/1, Poor maiden on Flat. Nothing in her Flat form to indicate she can feature on her first run over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) ![]() Rockys Favourite |
250/1(-67%) | (8) Rockys Favourite 250/1, Once-raced maiden. Fifteenth of 16 in juvenile hurdle (250/1) at Leopardstown (16f, good) on NH debut 40 days ago. In rear in two Flat runs at Dundalk, same story on hurdling debut, safe to rule out. |
LEGIONNAIRE FOREZ, who was runner-up in a French bumper in November, is being quoted for the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and looks a likely sort on Irish debut for Willie Mullins. Gordon Elliott takes the wraps off Shirocco gelding Good To Be Alive who is sure to be well schooled and starts off in a race lacking depth. Ex-Flat Sundance Sioux showed up nicely in fourth on hurdle bow at Punchestown, so he is in the hunt for a cheque. Imarajan is a recruit from the Flat to note after he kept on for second over a staying trip on his last start at the Curragh, while Hobart isn't out of it.
LEGIONNAIRE FOREZ showed plenty when runner-up in a bumper in France and can make a winning start for powerful connections. Good To Be Alive is an interesting newcomer, while Sundance Sioux offered something to work on when fourth at Punchestown.
This looks like a good opportunity for recent French import LEGIONNAIRE FOREZ to get off to a winning start for Willie Mullins

1st (5) ![]() Rioja Alta |
14/1(+0%) | (5) Rioja Alta 14/1, Fair maiden on the Flat for Gavin Cromwell and showed aptitude for hurdling for this yard when placed in novice company last term. Well held both starts in handicap company this season but is easing in the weights and first-time blinkers can trigger a better showing. Unable to land a significant blow in first two handicaps (2m/2m3f); blinkers added here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) ![]() Kajaki |
9/2(+50%) | (4) Kajaki 9/2, On a losing run but not disgraced when fourth of 10 in handicap hurdle at Newcastle (23.7f, good) on most recent outing. Should remain competitive from an easing mark. Veteran; on the downgrade now but didn't run badly last time and is suited by Sedgefield. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) ![]() Trailblazer |
11/2(+8%) | (3) Trailblazer 11/2, Respectable fourth of 11 in handicap hurdle at Newcastle (16.9f, good to soft, 9/1) 20 days ago, needing stronger gallop. Dropped a further 2 lb and merits consideration. Kept on to snatch respectable fourth at Newcastle last month and has each-way claims here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) ![]() Minella Youngy |
9/2(+40%) | (6) Minella Youngy 9/2, A fair winning hurdler in Ireland. Failed to build on earlier promise for his current yard when only fifth of 6 in 2m course handicap chase in November and again ran below form in a first-time visor back over hurdles at Musselburgh since. Cheekpieces back on. Has had a breathing op. Below form in a visor last time but had wind op soon afterwards and lurks on a good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) ![]() Moran's Law |
15/2(-7%) | (7) Moran's Law 15/2, Hasn't looked a natural jumper so far but will have more chance now handicapping. Displayed minor promise in two of his three qualifying races; makes handicap debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) ![]() Roccos Inspiration |
11/2(-65%) | (2) Roccos Inspiration 11/2, Hasn't fired so far this season but has dropped to a good mark judged on the pick of her form. Cheekpieces back on. Good-value conditional takes the ride and she's interesting. Largely disappointing since maiden win a year ago but has slipped to a tempting mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) ![]() Lone Star |
7/2(+36%) | (1) Lone Star 7/2, Is down to an interesting mark but found little at Catterick on her most recent outing. Hard to have confidence in. Yet to add to her five wins during the 2022-23 season but not ruled out off sliding mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) ![]() Spring Wind |
8/1(+50%) | (8) Spring Wind 8/1, Fair maiden on the Flat in Ireland but just poor form in 4 runs over hurdles, including on handicap debut at Catterick last time. Still unexposed over hurdles but was towards rear throughout on handicap debut in December. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) ![]() Le Fou's Keep |
50/1(0%) | (9) Le Fou's Keep 50/1, Long-standing maiden who ran poorly back up in trip after 5 months off when ninth of 11 in handicap hurdle at Kelso (20.9f, good to soft) 88 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Others more persuasive from 2 lb out of the weights. 0-20 over hurdles; tailed-off 50-1 shot on latest outing; cheekpieces tried here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) ![]() Paywave |
200/1(-400%) | (10) Paywave 200/1, Looks of little account on early evidence. Up in trip for handicap debut. 10 lb out of the weights. Showed no promise when a big-priced outsider for three 2m novice/maiden hurdles. |
Trailblazer arrives on the back of a respectable fourth over 2m1f at Newcastle and looks worth another go at this distance. However, there is a sneaking suspicion that we've not seen the best of ROCCOS INSPIRATION since entering handicap company last April and reapplied cheekpieces could work the oracle. Olly Murphy's mare lurks on a dangerous mark and a reproduction of her C&D second just under a year ago would likely see her go close. Lone Star is also noted.
ROCCOS INSPIRATION hasn't fired so far this season, but she's undoubtedly well treated on the pick of her 2023/24 form, so is well worth another chance venturing back up North. Trailblazer and Rioja Alta head the opposition.
In a tricky race to solve the tentative selection is Nicky Richards' veteran KAJAKI, who is very well suited by this track.

1st (1) ![]() Vanderpoel |
1/8(+56%) | (1) Vanderpoel 1/8, Off mark in Irish points at second attempt (Nov 23) and created a positive impression when following up on Rules debut in a Huntingdon maiden (15.8f) 5 weeks ago, jumping accurately and quickening to lead before 2 out. Prime claims under a penalty with progress anticipated. Won Irish maiden point and a 2m maiden hurdle at Huntingdon; easily the best hurdles form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) ![]() Grenardier |
9/1(+59%) | (3) Grenardier 9/1, Little impact in a couple of bumpers and similar story in pair of maiden/novice hurdles upon returning to action this winter. Handicaps will be more his bag after this. Beaten at least 20l in his two bumpers and two hurdle races. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) ![]() Tracking Treasure |
33/1(+34%) | (6) Tracking Treasure 33/1, Unplaced both starts in points and failed to beat a rival in a bumper at Fairyhouse in November, he offered little starting out for new yard when ninth of 12 in a novice hurdle at Hereford (16.2f) 3 weeks ago. No claims after his Irish points, bumper and Hereford novice hurdle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) ![]() King Of Records |
8/1(-256%) | (4) King Of Records 8/1, Fairly useful on Flat on balance of form in France (seems to stay 1½m) and twice in-the-frame in 2023. Acquired by new connections for €62,000 later that year and whilst absent since, market confidence behind him in the betting would look significant now hurdling. One to note. Pretty useful at up to 1m2f on Flat in France in 2022 and 2023; sold for 62,000 euros. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) ![]() Arkendale |
125/1(-150%) | (2) Arkendale 125/1, Fairly useful handicapper on the Flat (stays 10.5f) but finished well held both starts in maiden/novice hurdles for new yard in recent months. Pretty useful on Flat at up to 1m2f; tailed off at 40-1 and 250-1 over hurdles, however. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) ![]() Wick Hill |
125/1(-150%) | (7) Wick Hill 125/1, Hillstar gelding. Dam, ran twice over hurdles, 1m winner who stayed 11.5f on Flat. Failed to beat a rival sole start in point bumpers/pulled up sole start in points (Dec 29). Best watched making Rules/hurdles bow. Remote in a point bumper and pulled up for Will Biddick in a maiden point. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) ![]() Tican |
250/1(-67%) | (5) Tican 250/1, Teofilo gelding who is bred more for the Flat and little encouragement when last of 16 in a C&D bumper 9 months ago, tailed-off straight. Passed over now hurdling on reappearance. 250-1, remote last in bumper here (good) last April. |
VANDERPOEL's debut victory under Rules at Huntingdon last month couldn't have worked out much better, with the second, third and fifth all winning next time out. Ben Pauling's charge looks to have been found a golden opportunity to follow up and he's likely to prove a warm order. Smart Flat performer King Of Records must defy a 488-day layoff on his hurdles/stable bow but the five-year-old may serve the most resistance to the selection, ahead of Grenardier.
Winning pointer VANDERPOEL created a positive impression when making a successful debut over hurdles at Huntingdon 5 weeks ago and open to improvement, he looks to hold outstanding claims in his bid to make it 2-2 under Rules. King of Records has a lengthy absence to overcome but was a fairly useful operator on the Flat in France and he could emerge as the lead danger on debut for Venetia Williams.
King Of Records showed pretty useful French Flat form but was not seen in 2024. He needs a good standard if he's to beat VANDERPOEL.

1st (3) ![]() Karoline Banbou |
4/9(+51%) | (3) Karoline Banbou 4/9, Dual French bumper winner. Promising second of 20 in maiden (1/2) at Naas (16.2f, good to soft) on hurdle debut 51 days ago. Looks a sure-fire improver for top connections. Good form in AQPS races, touched off by a stablemate on hurdling debut, should make amends. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (12) ![]() Place De La Nation |
10/3(+39%) | (12) Place De La Nation 10/3, Promising type. Third of 13 in juvenile hurdle (23/1) at Auteuil (17.9f, soft) in September. First run for yard after leaving Y. Fouin. Very interesting runner. Third at Auteuil last September, stablemate Karoline Bandou makes more appeal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) ![]() Glens Lullaby |
14/1(+44%) | (2) Glens Lullaby 14/1, Winner of bumper at Wexford in October. Well-held sixth of 10 in maiden at Punchestown (19.6f, soft, 11/4) on hurdles bow 23 days ago. Should be capable of better in this sphere. Won a bumper at Wexford in good style, failed to run to expectations on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) ![]() Marie's March |
50/1(-25%) | (7) Marie's March 50/1, Thrice-raced maiden under NH rules. Third of 5 in maiden hurdle at Downpatrick (21.8f, good to soft, 7/2) 117 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Willie Mullins. Hooded for 1st time. Placed in a small-field maiden over 2m6f for Willie Mullins, has joined a small yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) ![]() Flashaway |
33/1(-106%) | (1) Flashaway 33/1, Bumper winner for Willie Mullins this time last year. Has changed stable ahead of this hurdle debut/reappearance. Interesting to see what the betting makes of her. Won a bumper for Willie Mullins on debut, fourth in a C&D Listed bumper, change of stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (11) ![]() Turn Up The Heat |
25/1(-25%) | (11) Turn Up The Heat 25/1, Fairly useful on Flat. Won 8-runner handicap (5/2) at Leicester (8.2f, heavy) in October (final start for Ralph Beckett). Makes hurdle debut. Rated 81 after 1m heavy ground win on her final start for Ralph Beckett, useful recruit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) ![]() Johanna'sjean |
250/1(-25%) | (5) Johanna'sjean 250/1, Once-raced maiden. 100/1, ninth of 12 in maiden hurdle at this course (20f, soft) on NH debut 35 days ago. Jumping was ragged when down the field in a 2m4f maiden hurdle at this venue in December. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) ![]() Leading Endeavour |
80/1(-264%) | (6) Leading Endeavour 80/1, Leading Light mare. Sister to point winner Eager Eyes and half-sister to fair 2m hurdle winner/smart staying chaser who became temperamental Daklondike. Won a point in November. The betting should guide now hurdling. Wide-margin winner of three-runner maiden point, stable having an excellent season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) ![]() Lady Leanora |
250/1(-25%) | (4) Lady Leanora 250/1, Lightly-raced maiden over hurdles. Off 16 months. Switches from Flat to hurdles. First run for yard after leaving Tony Martin. Hooded for 1st time. Likely outsider. Handicap winner at a modest level on the Flat, moderate form in four starts over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (10) ![]() Swing Davis |
11/2(-38%) | (10) Swing Davis 11/2, Promising individual. 4/5, second of 10 in novice hurdle at this course (20f, soft) on hurdles bow 20 days ago. Likely to improve. Expensive purchase after point win, useful form in defeat but beaten favourite three times. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) ![]() Shuil Swift |
40/1(-82%) | (9) Shuil Swift 40/1, Order of St George mare. Half-sister to 3 winners, including fairly useful hurdler/useful chaser Sugar Baron and useful hurdler/fairly useful chaser The Way We Were. One of 2 runners for connections and the betting should help guide to expectations. Newcomer from the same stable as bumper winner Flashaway, best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) ![]() Midnight Fairy |
250/1(-67%) | (8) Midnight Fairy 250/1, Twice-raced maiden. Ninth of 13 in novice hurdle at Clonmel (16.9f, soft, 250/1) 21 days ago. Down the field on her first two starts, will need to qualify for a handicap mark. |
Willie Mullins has landed the last three renewals of this race and his PLACE DE LA NATION appeals. She is a four-year-old French recruit who receives plenty of weight from her rivals and holds a Triumph Hurdle entry at Cheltenham. Mullins also saddles Karoline Banbou who just gave best in second close home at Naas at November. That was her first run for more than a year and she was a Grade 3 bumper winner in her native France. Swing Davis drops back in trip after finishing second on hurdle debut at this track, while there is surely more to come from Glens Lullaby who was decent in bumpers.
The strength in the betting behind KAROLINE BANBOU on her Naas hurdle debut suggests she's well regarded and she can build on that promising second and go one better now. Her stablemate Place de La Nation, who shaped well on her debut in France in the autumn, is a possible big threat, particularly if the betting vibes are strong. Swing Davis looks best of the remainder.
Despite an odds-on defeat at Naas on her Irish and hurdling debut, KAROLINE BANBOU remains of significant interest on her French form

11/2(+61%) | (6) Benefit Ben 11/2, 14/1, possibly failed to stay when ninth of 11 in handicap chase at Catterick (25.2f, good) 14 days ago. Reverts to hurdling back over a shorter trip in a first-time visor. Safely held in two chases last month; now back hurdling with new headgear tried. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) ![]() Born In The West |
7/2(-5%) | (3) Born In The West 7/2, Point winner who looks to have been brought along with low-grade handicaps in mind and all the more interesting if supported. Not beaten far in three qualifying races and should have improvement to come in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) ![]() Let's Go Joe |
2/1(+20%) | (1) Let's Go Joe 2/1, Ended a losing sequence with a career best in 13-runner handicap hurdle at Doncaster (19.4f, good) in November. Seemed stretched by the step up to 3m at Wetherby last time but did enough to suggest he remains in good form. Looked stretched by 3m last time; player if judged on 2m3f win two starts ago. |

4th (7) ![]() Bridgetjoans |
11/2(-22%) | (7) Bridgetjoans 11/2, Confirmed return to form when fourth of 10 in handicap hurdle at Newcastle (20.3f, good to soft) 20 days ago. Enters calculations. 0-12 over hurdles but has posted two good efforts since cheekpieces were added; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) ![]() Horizon Dove |
125/1(-213%) | (9) Horizon Dove 125/1, Showed ability in bumpers but it's all been pretty low-key since switched to hurdles and she was pulled up on first start for this yard at Catterick last time. 3 lb out of the handicap. Pulled up in December, after a layoff, and has now been unplaced all six hurdling starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) ![]() Mr Globalist |
66/1(-371%) | (4) Mr Globalist 66/1, Modest maiden hurdler who fell at the fourth on first run since leaving Shay Slevin in handicap at this course (16.8f, soft) 10 days ago. Ex-Irish maiden who fell on recent stable debut; others have much less to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) ![]() Devon Skies |
8/1(-78%) | (5) Devon Skies 8/1, Well held in 2 bumpers and has shown barely modest form in 4 runs over hurdles. More needed on handicap debut. In the frame all four hurdling starts but will need to up her game on this handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) ![]() Ebendi |
12/1(+64%) | (8) Ebendi 12/1, Poor maiden who was sent off 33/1 when pulled up in handicap hurdle at Newcastle (20.3f, good to soft) 53 days ago. Ended last year in poor form and is now 0-14 over hurdles; difficult to enthuse over. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) ![]() Flighttothestars |
33/1(-230%) | (2) Flighttothestars 33/1, Minor promise at best in bumpers. Showed more than first time up over hurdles when third in a Stratford novice in June but failed to repeat that effort back there next time. Up in trip for handicap bow. Unexposed mare who displayed promise in novice/maiden hurdles in early part of this season. |
Three miles appeared to stretch the stamina of LET'S GO JOE when weakening into sixth at Wetherby and he makes plenty of appeal dropping in distance. The seven-year-old landed a maiden hurdle over C&D in November 2023 and this looks a suitable opportunity for him to regain the winning thread. Handicap debutants Born In The West and Devon Skies should prove more competitive in this company, with the former a shade more compelling up in trip.
LET'S GO JOE seemed stretched by the step up to 3m at Wetherby last time, but did more than enough to suggest he remains in good form and is fancied to get back to winning ways back over this more suitable trip. Bridgetjoans confirmed her return to form when third at Newcastle the previous month, while Born In The West is an interesting handicap debutant and requires close market scrutiny.
This drop back in trip can help LET'S GO JOE, who didn't see out 3m last time but has good claims if judged on his earlier 2m3f win.

1st (7) ![]() Post Chaise |
10/1(+29%) | (7) Post Chaise 10/1, Notched a fifth win over the larger obstacles at Market Rasen (27.6f) in May but not in same form next 3 starts after a break. Has it to prove. Back to his last winning mark but not all the pieces seem to be in place for a revival. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) ![]() Can You Call |
10/3(-11%) | (4) Can You Call 10/3, Fairly useful hurdles/chase winner who ran well on 3 of his 4 starts returned to fences last term and back to that level when second at Chepstow over Christmas. Well treated if building on that. Chepstow 2nd latest; well handicapped on last season's form and could be on his way back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) ![]() Superbolt |
3/1(-33%) | (6) Superbolt 3/1, No great shakes over hurdles/on the Flat in Ireland but has upped his game for this yard, winning last 2 starts over fences in good style here and at Leicester. Looks progressive so should make a bold bid for the hat-trick. On hat-trick; a rising force, probably more to give; big chance despite drop back in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) ![]() Pepe Le Moko |
5/1(+17%) | (3) Pepe Le Moko 5/1, Winless following 5 attempts over hurdles but quickly put that right sent chasing, taking 2 of his first 3 starts (at up to 20.5f). However, has yet to fire this season so bit to prove now. Just 1lb above his last winning mark and he drops back in trip; a case can be made. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) ![]() Dibble Decker |
9/2(+36%) | (1) Dibble Decker 9/2, Added a third chase victory to his tally at Wincanton on second start last season. Shaped quite well back over hurdles after 8 months off at Ascot and expected to build on that returned to fences. Should be a lot more interesting today for a stable which is seemingly returning to form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) ![]() Georges Saint |
14/1(-100%) | (2) Georges Saint 14/1, Drew a blank over hurdles for current connections but upped his game sent chasing last term, scoring at Ffos Las (19.4f) and Fakenham (21.2f). However, well held last 2 starts 9 months apart so needs to bounce back. Soundly beaten last twice, off 269 days in between; interesting to see if backers return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) ![]() Bobhopeornohope |
7/1(+0%) | (5) Bobhopeornohope 7/1, Not the force of old but reduced mark reflects that and latest fourth at Doncaster was best effort in a while. Eased another 3 lb so not taken lightly. Staged a partial revival on last two outings and continues down the weights. |
The progressive Superbolt warrants respect after scoring here and at Leicester in December, but he's effectively racing off a stone higher in the ratings now that Sam Twiston-Davies is back in the plate. With that in mind, CAN YOU CALL may thwart the five-year-old's hat-trick bid. Evan Williams' inmate found only a subsequent Grade 2 runner-up too strong at Chepstow and he can strike off an unchanged mark. Bobhopeornohope is also worth a second look.
CAN YOU CALL bounced back to form from his reduced mark when second at Chepstow and is potentially on a handy mark if building on that. The progressive Superbolt is bidding for the hat-trick and is the obvious threat. while Dibble Decker should prove all the better for his comeback spin over hurdles.
The youngster of the party, hat-trick seeking 5yo SUPERBOLT (nap) stands out in having potential and he can therefore score again.

13/2(-18%) | (5) Elusive Guy 13/2, 15/2, good second of 11 in handicap hurdle at Clonmel (20f, soft) 21 days ago. Respected. Left with a bit too much to do at Clonmel; one to consider off same mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) ![]() Walk Away Harry |
16/1(+20%) | (2) Walk Away Harry 16/1, Fifteenth of 18 in handicap hurdle (16/1) at Cork (20f, soft) 59 days ago. Two Cork runs for new yard don't inspire confidence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) ![]() The Nagger Reidy |
2/1(+56%) | (1) The Nagger Reidy 2/1, Made a winning handicap debut at Listowel in September. Bettered that form when narrowly denied at Tipperary 8 weeks later. Unseated rider in handicap at Punchestown (19f, heavy, 11/4) 36 days ago. Has good chance on form. Progressing well before recent Punchestown fall; still respected and drops in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) ![]() Brown Boots |
28/1(-12%) | (9) Brown Boots 28/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 150/1, eighth of 17 in novice hurdle at Clonmel (16.9f, soft) 21 days ago. Makes handicap hurdle debut. Likely to improve. Maiden hurdle form ordinary; handicap debutant may need more time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (14) ![]() Chemdawg |
33/1(-32%) | (14) Chemdawg 33/1, 25/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time in this code, tenth of 16 in handicap hurdle at Down Royal (17.2f, soft) 15 days ago. Flat winner nowhere near as effective a hurdler and needs to improve markedly. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) ![]() Malbay Madness |
150/1(-200%) | (3) Malbay Madness 150/1, Tenth of 11 in handicap hurdle (66/1) at Navan (20f, soft) 18 days ago. Others are more persuasive. Flat winner is 0-8 hurdling and fair bit of improvement needed on recent efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) ![]() Makaiah |
28/1(-180%) | (7) Makaiah 28/1, Modest maiden on the Flat. Thrice-raced maiden. Second of 6 in juvenile hurdle at this course (16f, good to soft, 66/1) 25 days ago. Up in trip. Makes handicap hurdle debut. Promise in recent maiden; will have to settle better to stay longer trip on handicap bow. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) ![]() Crossgaleschicflic |
20/1(-25%) | (10) Crossgaleschicflic 20/1, 12/1, career best when winning 16-runner handicap hurdle at this course (22.5f, heavy) in December 2022 but hasn't been seen since. A watching brief has to be the call after such a long time off. Absent since winning 2m7f handicap here in December 2022; market best guide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (12) ![]() Walk Of The Roses |
50/1(-100%) | (12) Walk Of The Roses 50/1, Seventh of 10 in handicap hurdle (25/1) at Cork (16.9f, soft) 19 days ago. Blinkers on 1st time. Bumper winner for David Pipe; two runs for current yard leave her with a fair bit to find. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (8) ![]() Ivar The Boneless |
80/1(-142%) | (8) Ivar The Boneless 80/1, 50/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, pulled up in handicap chase at Punchestown (19.4f, heavy) 24 days ago, pulled up before 2 out. Switches from chase to hurdles. Blinkered for 1st time. Soundly beaten in handicap chases of late; hard to fancy back hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) ![]() Captain Porridge |
12/1(-20%) | (6) Captain Porridge 12/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 200/1, seventh of 18 in novice hurdle at Naas (19.5f, good to soft) 51 days ago. Makes handicap hurdle debut. Mild promise on latest maiden run; hood now ditched for handicap debut. |
A step up in trip on testing ground is expected to suit MAKAIAH. She outran her odds when keeping on for second at this venue last month and Aidan Kelly claims 5lb again. Elusive Guy showed much more in second at Clonmel and looks dangerous for Jarlath Fahey. Lilian Bland finished third when gambled on over fences at Cork, so has to be respected in reverting to the smaller obstacles. Wendell's Lass was still in there pitching with a share of the lead when she fell two out over a similar trip in Punchestown, so shouldn't be ruled out. Market support for Gavin Cromwell's Mickie Angel would be significant.
THE NAGGER REIDY still looks a on a good mark, particularly if his rider's claim is taken into account, and gets the vote ahead of Wendell's Lass, who looked threatening when departing 2 out at Punchestown last month. The return to a shorter trip could benefit Mickie Angel and he's shortlisted along with Elusive Guy.
Dropped in grade THE NAGGER REIDY can get back on track after unseating last time

1st (2) ![]() Pilgrims King |
5/1(-25%) | (2) Pilgrims King 5/1, Dual 19f chase winner last term. Pulled up on his first 4 outings this season but step back in the right direction when third over 21f at Fakenham last month. Needs to show he can back that up now. Ended a run of non-completions with a 7l third at Fakenham; on a useful mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) ![]() Beat The Edge |
11/4(+31%) | (4) Beat The Edge 11/4, In decent form for new yard, including a 19f Catterick win on New Year's Day. That was a weak race, though, and he was back to his weak-finishing ways when fifth over 25f back there last week. Back down in trip. Looks a key player dropped back in distance as handicap mark is very manageable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) ![]() Bebside Banter |
5/4(+58%) | (5) Bebside Banter 5/4, Made a winning reappearance over 21f here in November and creditable third back here (21f again) 3 weeks later. Dropped away to finish a remote last of 4 at Catterick on New Year's Day but can bounce back to form returned to Sedgefield. Three-time course winner and had a feasible excuse last time at Catterick. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) ![]() I'm Too Tired |
4/1(0%) | (1) I'm Too Tired 4/1, Won a course hurdle around this trip last winter and also landed a 2m handicap chase here on Boxing Day. Not so good at Catterick since but his Sedgefield record affords him respect. Jumping errors resurfaced last time but chance if he can find greater fluency. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) ![]() Pure Surf |
18/1(+10%) | (7) Pure Surf 18/1, Dual hurdle winner (including here) for Iain Jardine in summer 2023 but has been operating below that level since joining this yard. Latest 21f course fourth was respectable but likely vulnerable for win purposes again. Didn't run too badly here last time given she met with some late interference. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) ![]() Confidential Gosip |
22/1(+33%) | (6) Confidential Gosip 22/1, Fair maiden hurdler for Jessica Harrington in Ireland but has struggled since joining Laura Horsfall. It remains to be seen whether a switch to fences makes any difference. Encouraging efforts in Ireland but she's sliding down the weights for good reason. |
It was a lot more like it from PILGRIMS KING last time out, withe the Bowens' nine-year-old ending a run of four incompletions when third at Fakenham. He finds himself well handicapped as a result and, in a race lacking depth, he ought to go very close if building on that performance. Beat The Edge weakened over 3m1f at Catterick last Friday, but had been in good form prior and could bounce back down in trip. Bebside Banter may chase the pair home.
BEBSIDE BANTER and I'm Too Tired both seem to save their best for Sedgefield and might be the pair to focus on, with preference for Chris Grant's charge.
Having seemingly turned a corner when third at Fakenham, PILGRIMS KING looks ready to strike again off his good mark.

1st (2) ![]() Looking As You Are |
4/1(+60%) | (2) Looking As You Are 4/1, Won a C&D maiden and Plumpton novice (20.5f) last term and back to that sort of form when creditable fourth of 8 in handicap hurdle at Kempton (24.6f, good to soft, 25/1) 40 days ago, not ideally placed. Respected. Won on this card last year; below form sent handicapping this term; chance if back to best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) ![]() Springs A Girl |
11/2(-57%) | (5) Springs A Girl 11/2, Bumper winner who bagged her second victory over hurdles when seeing off 6 rivals in C&D mares' novice (soft) in December. Remains relatively unexposed and merits consideration on handicap debut. Won two (one over C&D) of her last three starts and brings potential to handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) ![]() Batwomen |
6/1(-50%) | (1) Batwomen 6/1, Made a successful switch to handicaps when winning in smooth fashion at Fontwell (19.1f) in October and backed that up with good second of 11 at Plumpton (20.5f, soft) 65 days ago. 4 lb higher now but must enter calculations. 1st and 2nd in her two handicaps; up another 4lb but she's heading the right way. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) ![]() Current Mood |
11/2(+31%) | (6) Current Mood 11/2, Better for return when capitalising on a much-reduced mark over fences at this course (23.8f) in October and back to that sort of form when second of 5 in handicap chase (8/1) over same C&D (soft) 63 days ago. Fairly treated, back hurdling, but this trip may be on the sharp side for her. 10yo who has had three races here for two wins and a 2nd; big player on recent chase form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) ![]() Sweet Magic |
3/1(+25%) | (7) Sweet Magic 3/1, Still a maiden but showed the benefit of her reappearance when second of 8 in a handicap hurdle at Aintree (20f, soft) on Boxing Day, giving the well-backed winner plenty to think about. 3 lb rise looks fair and another bold show is on the cards. Short-headed at Aintree latest; stable had a big-race double at Musselburgh last weekend. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) ![]() Baby Sage |
4/1(-45%) | (3) Baby Sage 4/1, Confirmed promise of reappearance effort when taking 11-runner handicap hurdle (9/2) at Exeter (21.6f, heavy) 61 days ago. 6 lb higher now but further progress may be forthcoming. Carried her head awkwardly when winning at Exeter last time but may well have more to give. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) ![]() River Robe |
22/1(+21%) | (8) River Robe 22/1, Yet to score for current yard and arrives on back of disappointing run over fences at Hereford (19f, good to soft) 21 days ago. Makes limited appeal returned to smaller obstacles here. Mixed form this winter, including over fences on last four starts; has career-low mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) ![]() Majestic Jameela |
25/1(-25%) | (4) Majestic Jameela 25/1, Scored 3 times over hurdles last term but fell heavily early on at Chepstow in October and has been well below best in both outings since. Fell in October when back from a break and well beaten on both starts since. |
SWEET MAGIC bounced back to form when a short-head second over 2m4f at Aintree on Boxing Day and she could be hard to stop if repeating that level of form here, despite a 3lb rise. Baby Sage is an obvious threat following her success at Exeter, while Springs A Girl has to be feared on her first taste of handicap action. Others to note are Batwomen and Current Mood.
Preference is for SWEET MAGIC, who ran a cracker at Aintree last time and hails from a yard in fine form. Springs A Girl and Baby Sage rate the principal dangers.
This looks competitive but preference is for handicap debutante SPRINGS A GIRL ahead of fellow last-time-out winner Baby Sage.

1st (9) ![]() Chosen Diamond |
9/2(+72%) | (9) Chosen Diamond 9/2, Back from 10 months off when fifteenth of 16 in handicap hurdle at Punchestown (20.6f, heavy) 24 days ago. This run should reveal more. All the better for recent comeback run; trip/ground to suit and could go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) ![]() Kingkong Ciergues |
12/1(+40%) | (11) Kingkong Ciergues 12/1, Lightly-raced maiden under NH rules. Thirteenth of 20 in handicap hurdle at this course (20f, soft, 16/1) 35 days ago. Work to do. Dropped out tamely over C&D on last month's handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) ![]() Buck Rogers |
8/1(+33%) | (5) Buck Rogers 8/1, 17/2, below form ninth of 18 in handicap hurdle at Limerick (21f, soft) 39 days ago. Enters calculations. Struggling of late off reduced mark so of limited appeal here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) ![]() Lord Lariat |
33/1(-230%) | (1) Lord Lariat 33/1, Respectable seventh of 15 in handicap hurdle at Leopardstown (24f, soft, 17/2). Off 23 months. Likely best watched on return. Undoubtedly well-handicapped over hurdles but can only be watched after long absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) ![]() Joya Del Mar |
8/1(+43%) | (4) Joya Del Mar 8/1, 16/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, pulled up in handicap hurdle at this course (24.5f, soft) 35 days ago, beaten before 4 out. Still looking for first success. Cheekpieces didn't work here last month; drop in trip could suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (14) ![]() I'm For Home |
25/1(0%) | (14) I'm For Home 25/1, 25/1, fourteenth of 16 in handicap hurdle at Sligo (20.3f, soft) 103 days ago. Claims on best form. Limerick second last season encouraging but October comeback run wasn't. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) ![]() Happy Dreams |
12/1(+0%) | (3) Happy Dreams 12/1, C&D winner. 14/1, eighth of 9 in handicap chase at Cork (20f, soft) 19 days ago. Switches from chase to hurdles. Others preferred. C&D winner early last year off 90 but more recent form leaves him with a fair bit to find. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) ![]() Southgate Avenue |
18/1(-125%) | (8) Southgate Avenue 18/1, Unable to land a blow at Clonmel latest but had finished with running left when sixth in maiden at Tramore (16.2f) previously and can be expected to improve now sent handicapping. Hasn't shown too much in a trio of maidens; market best guide now entering handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (13) ![]() Shanroe Nancy |
16/1(+52%) | (13) Shanroe Nancy 16/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Ninth of 15 in handicap hurdle at this course (20f, soft, 25/1) 20 days ago. Makes limited appeal. Never sighted on handicap debut over C&D last month; may need more time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (2) ![]() Next Stop Paris |
6/4(+33%) | (2) Next Stop Paris 6/4, Promising type. Back on track when seventh of 17 in novice hurdle at Leopardstown (16f, good) 41 days ago, not knocked about. Upped in trip for handicap debut and likely has more to offer yet. Likely improver upped in trip for handicap debut and yard couldn't be in better form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (6) ![]() Rajsalad |
11/1(-10%) | (6) Rajsalad 11/1, Last of 7 in novice chase at Thurles (24.3f, good to soft, 20/1). Off over 2 years. Switches from chase to hurdles. Likely to need this outing. Long absent 9yo for whom market likely best guide to his readiness on return. |
NEXT STOP PARIS faced stiff tasks in three maiden hurdles, but two of those runs weren't devoid of ability. He can make an impact off a mark of 102 in his first handicap hurdle for in-form Gavin Cromwell. Chosen Diamond wasn't a factor in a much-higher grade at Punchestown, but should be involved off 2lb lower. Doyen Flyer made up plenty of ground for fifth over further at Punchestown last month. If she can race handier over this trip, she would certainly enter calculations. Former Irish Grand National winner Lord Lariat is probably best watched on his return from a very lengthy absence.
NEXT STOP PARIS is in good hands and looks the type to progress now switched to handicapping. He makes fair appeal in the finale. Doyen Flyer and Southgate Avenue rate the principal dangers.
The unexposed Next Stop Paris is bound to be popular but better value may be hand in CHOSEN DIAMOND with conditions to suit

1st (2) ![]() Demoiselle Kap |
11/2(+54%) | (2) Demoiselle Kap 11/2, Inconsistent performer. Sole run for Keiran Burke when seventh of 9 in handicap hurdle at Ludlow (15.8f, soft) 63 days ago. Others appeal more. Four jumps wins in France; not disgraced on British debut; now with another new stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) ![]() Milajess |
5/1(+58%) | (10) Milajess 5/1, Remains a maiden after 22 runs but she recorded a respectable fifth of 10 in handicap hurdle at Wetherby (16f, soft) 41 days ago. Possibilities. Gave pretty good account when fifth at Wetherby on Boxing Day but is 0-20 over hurdles now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) ![]() Addosh |
11/4(+39%) | (1) Addosh 11/4, Good second in Flat handicap at Southwell (16.5f) 13 days ago. Proving a reliable sort for her current yard and a likely player back over hurdles. Consistent on the Flat and over hurdles for James Owen since last summer; likely contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) ![]() Lillistar |
40/1(+0%) | (9) Lillistar 40/1, Fair maiden on Flat (stays 1¼m) for Harry & Roger Charlton but well held over hurdles and efforts on the level for this yard hardly encouraging, either. Still unexposed over hurdles but was never competitive when 66-1 for handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) ![]() Winds Of Winter |
4/1(+20%) | (5) Winds Of Winter 4/1, Remains winless but she came in an encouraging third of 7 in handicap chase at Musselburgh (20.3f, soft) on her debut over fences 35 days ago. In the mix back over hurdles. Placed all on four hurdling starts for stable and also ran well on recent chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) ![]() Granny B |
33/1(+34%) | (7) Granny B 33/1, Fair winner at 5f on flat. Below form fourth of 8 in handicap hurdle (66/1) at Doncaster (16.6f, good to soft) 38 days ago. Needs a couple of these to falter if she's to get off the mark in this sphere. 5f Flat winner; has shown some hurdling ability but needs improvement here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) ![]() Belle Montrose |
4/1(+11%) | (4) Belle Montrose 4/1, Still a maiden but she posted a good fifth of 17 in handicap hurdle at Wincanton (15.2f, soft) 20 days ago, staying on well. Not taken lightly. Well beaten on handicap debut but last month's fifth of 17 at Wincanton was much better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) ![]() Mullins Cross |
50/1(-213%) | (6) Mullins Cross 50/1, Doubled her career tally at Bangor in December 2023 but hasn't been able to match that level since, fourth of 14 at Downpatrick (17.8f, good) when last seen in June. Off 7 months ahead of first run since leaving John Joseph Hanlon. 2-37 over hurdles in Ireland; makes stable debut after 234-day absence; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) ![]() Lady Buttercup |
22/1(-267%) | (8) Lady Buttercup 22/1, Landed bumper at Warwick in September. However, she hasn't shown much in 3 starts over hurdles since so others are preferred. Bumper winner; soundly beaten on all three hurdling starts but improvement is possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) ![]() Gine Sacre |
14/1(+65%) | (11) Gine Sacre 14/1, Still a maiden and cheekpieces tried when only seventh of 9 in handicap hurdle at Cartmel (22.1f) in June for Pauline Robson. Needs this yard switch to spark a resurgence. 0-10 over hurdles and absent since heavy defeat for Pauline Robson at Cartmel last summer. |
LOVE TRUE was going best of all when coming to grief two from home at Catterick a fortnight ago and, if none the worse for that tumble, the five-year-old looks more than capable of recording a first hurdles success. Winds Of Winter has been admirably consistent since joining Iain Jardine and she's unlikely to be away, although Demoiselle Kap, who contested a warm class 2 at Ludlow last time, might be the bigger threat.
ADDOSH comes here on the back of a good recent Flat run at Southwell so is taken to resume winning ways back in this sphere at the chief expense of in-form maidens Belle Montrose and Winds of Winter who can chase home James Owen's mare in that order. Milajess completes the shortlist.
Top of the list is ADDOSH, who ought to find this easier than her latest hurdling assignment and has since been placed on the Flat.

1st (1) ![]() Frere D'armes |
3/1(-9%) | (1) Frere D'armes 3/1, Disappointed on hunter debut at Taunton last month but had snapped a lengthy losing run at Fakenham (21.2f) under this rider previously and must enter calculations despite conceding weight all round. Made all in a handicap before struggling on soft ground on hunter chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) ![]() Enrilo |
3/1(-118%) | (2) Enrilo 3/1, Smart at his peak and made the frame in 3 of his 4 starts in handicaps last season. Turned in poor effort on return at Chepstow in October but he looks a big player in this company. Has wellbeing issues but major claims should he repeat last year's third at Taunton. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) ![]() Percussion |
6/4(+50%) | (4) Percussion 6/4, On a lengthy losing run but wasn't far off his best when second from out of the weights in Summer Cup at Uttoxeter in June. Not in same form in good handicaps since but will find this a lot more suitable. Tongue strap/cheekpieces back on. On a recovery mission but only three runs ago he was second in the Summer Cup at Uttoxeter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) ![]() Missed Tee |
10/1(+50%) | (5) Missed Tee 10/1, Fair over hurdles for Dan Skelton and stepped up on her opening run in hunters when third at this course (20.1f) in March. Below that level when last seen in May, though, and looks to have plenty on her plate here. Four defeats in hunter chases for current yard include a third in this 12 months ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (3) ![]() Jimmy The Digger |
15/2(+6%) | (3) Jimmy The Digger 15/2, Not the most consistent but posted one of his better recent efforts when runner-up at Cheltenham (25f) in October and could make his presence felt here. Unreliable but was second of 18 in a Cheltenham handicap on his penultimate run. |
ENRILO failed to fire in a handicap on his sole start this season, at Chepstow in October, but the 11-year-old can be given another chance in this company based on the pick of his efforts, which include finishing first past the post in the 2021 bet365 Gold Cup. Frere d'Armes is another with strong form claims but does have questions to answer after a disappointing effort at Taunton. Percussion completes the shortlist.
It's been 4 years since ENRILO last scored but he has plied his trade in much more competitive contests than this. He can make a successful hunter-chase debut. Percussion may provide the chief threat.
None of the five ran that well last time. ENRILO is on favourable terms with his rivals if he can put his best foot forward.

6/1(-71%) | (2) Claxton Bay 6/1, Winner at Beverley (8.5f) in September. 18/1, good second of 10 in handicap at Lingfield (1m) 14 days ago. Has to be taken seriously. 0-13 on AW but had a near-miss at Lingfield two weeks ago; should be involved again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) ![]() Help Me Rhonda |
11/2(-38%) | (6) Help Me Rhonda 11/2, C&D winner in October. Off 3 months, unlucky not to finish closer when seventh of 9 back here 21 days ago, headway when badly hampered 1f out. Considered. C&D win in October; had an excuse here three weeks ago; could still be well handicapped. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) ![]() Roundabout Silver |
22/1(+12%) | (9) Roundabout Silver 22/1, Last of 6 in handicap at Brighton (1m, soft) in September. Off since. Not easy to make a case for. Struggled in 2024; down in the weights ahead of his return but others look safer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) ![]() Shot Of Love |
5/1(+38%) | (1) Shot Of Love 5/1, Twelve runs since last win in 2024. 50/1, creditable fifth of 11 in handicap at Lingfield (7f) 18 days ago. Visor back on. More encouragement at Lingfield last month; drops in class and looks well weighted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) ![]() Ajrad |
12/1(-85%) | (8) Ajrad 12/1, Unreliable sort. Won 8-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (7f) 9 days ago but not sure to be in a similar mood again. Scored at Wolverhampton nine days ago (7f); more required to defy his penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) ![]() Roscioli |
11/2(+39%) | (3) Roscioli 11/2, Latest win at Salisbury in August. Respectable sixth of 10 in handicap (8/1) at Lingfield (1m) 3 days ago. Raced too freely when below his best at Lingfield on Sunday; others look stronger. |
A winner of his last two starts at this venue and beaten just a neck at Chelmsford last time out, THE SPOTLIGHT KID sets the standard as he looks to notch up a fifth career success. That may be at the main expense of Ajrad, who scored over 7f at Wolverhampton last week but has a 4lb penalty to shoulder on this occasion. Claxton Bay and Roscioli are capable of being in the shake-up as well.
CLAXTON BAY is taken to gain compensation for his recent Lingfield near miss. The Spotlight Kid has remained in form since 2 course wins in November and is feared most ahead of Help Me Rhonda, who wasn't seen to best effect here last time.
A competitive race in which the in-form THE SPOTLIGHT KID (nap) is preferred to Claxton Bay and Help Me Rhonda.

7/2(-5%) | (7) Selenic 7/2, 66/1, promise amidst greenness when second of 6 in C&D maiden on debut 21 days ago, coming from the rear to almost get up. Should have more to offer. Belied 66-1 odds to go very close over C&D on debut; respected. |

2nd (3) ![]() Champagne On Ice |
13/2(-8%) | (3) Champagne On Ice 13/2, 100,000 gns No Nay Never filly. Dam, 1½m winner, half-sister to smart winner up to 1¼m (stayed 1½m) Hazapour out of smart 1¼m-1½m winner Hazarafa. Oisin Murphy does the steering on debut. Market support would look significant. 100,000gns yearling; dam 1m4f winner (RPR 78); check betting, but she may need further. |

3rd (4) ![]() Joy Of Dubai |
7/2(-5%) | (4) Joy Of Dubai 7/2, Pinatubo half-sister to several winners, including winner up to 1½m Mckulick, winners up to 1m Just Beautiful and Fearless King, all smart. Dam 2-y-o 7f winner. Noteworthy newcomer. Bred to be very talented and is in top hands; could play a leading role on debut. |

4th (2) ![]() Blue Wonder |
6/5(+40%) | (2) Blue Wonder 6/5, Promising type. Second of 9 in C&D maiden on debut 21 days ago, not knocked about. Should progress. Promising second on debut over C&D three weeks ago and she's open to improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) ![]() Olivia Jane |
11/1(-57%) | (6) Olivia Jane 11/1, Twice-raced maiden. Went close on Wolverhampton debut in October but went backwards from that when only sixth over 7f here later that month. Went close on debut; only sixth here since but retains potential and could bounce back. |

6th (1) ![]() Onlyriversrunfree |

7th (5) ![]() Make A Note |
80/1(-60%) | (5) Make A Note 80/1, 2,500 foal. Advertise filly. Dam 7f winner. Best watched on debut unless the betting strongly hints otherwise. 2,500gns foal; dam 7f winner (including AW; RPR 79); may be one for further down the line. |
Runner-up to a talented sort from the William Haggas team on debut over C&D last month, BLUE WONDER shaped with abundant promise on that occasion and she can go one better. Narrowly denied over track and trip at a huge price first time out, Selenic may be able to prove that was no fluke, while the booking of Oisin Murphy aboard well-bred newcomer Champagne On Ice is noteworthy.
BLUE WONDER and Selenic both showed promise when second over C&D on debut last month, with the former narrowly preferred. Newcomers Champagne On Ice and Joy of Dubai would also firmly enter the reckoning if the betting speaks in their favour.
Blue Wonder was second over C&D on debut but JOY OF DUBAI has a classy pedigree and this Roger Varian-trained newcomer is the pick.

30/100(+55%) | (2) Berkshire Whisper 30/100, Promising type. 7/1, second of 6 in maiden at this C&D on debut 28 days ago. Holds major claims. Runner-up on last month's debut over C&D and this well-bred colt holds leading claims. |

2nd (3) ![]() Middleton View |
15/2(+38%) | (3) Middleton View 15/2, Twice-raced maiden. 14/1, fourteenth of 15 in novice at Haydock (6f, good). Off 8 months/gelded. Twice well beaten but now gelded, which could help him tap into potential in his pedigree.. |

3rd (5) ![]() Havana Joy |
25/1(-233%) | (5) Havana Joy 25/1, €20,000 foal, £50,000 yearling, Havana Grey filly. Half-sister to winner up to 7f Skittlebombz and 1½m-1¾m winner Maritime Lady. Dam unraced half-sister to smart winner up to 5.7f Willytheconqueror. One to look for in the market on her debut. £50,000 yearling who is a half-sister to two winners; could give a good account on debut. |

4th (6) ![]() Sands Of Havana |
14/1(-155%) | (6) Sands Of Havana 14/1, Fair maiden but off 6 months before a below-par fifth of 9 in novice at Southwell (6.1f) 48 days ago. In the mix if back on track. Promising start to career in May; only fifth on AW in December but she's not written off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) ![]() Alone Mehmas |
13/2(-44%) | (4) Alone Mehmas 13/2, Mehmas filly. Half-sister to 7f/1m winner Local Music. Dam unraced sister to Queen Mary Stakes winner Acapulco. Considered newcomer. Bred to have a good future and could go well on debut; the betting may be informative. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) ![]() Rebel Cove |
250/1(-150%) | (1) Rebel Cove 250/1, Twice-raced maiden. 28/1, fourth of 5 in novice at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 37 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Sir Mark Todd with lots to find on form. Didn't show much in December on first two runs; lots of improvement needed on stable debut. |
The Andrew Balding stable are in good form and it is difficult to look past BERKSHIRE WHISPER, who ran on well for second on debut over C&D a month ago. The son of Dark Angel is taken to get off the mark, with Sands Of Havana looking best placed to chase him home, despite a disappointing effort at Southwell most recently. Alone Mehmas is a newcomer to monitor for market support.
BERKSHIRE WHISPER shaped well when runner-up over C&D on her debut and is hard to side against with progress very much on the cards. Newcomers Havana Joy (second choice) and Alone Mehmas are both in good hands and could emerge as the main dangers, especially if the market vibes are positive.
Andrew Balding's horses are running well and this can go to BERKSHIRE WHISPER on the back of his promising debut second over C&D.

2nd (6) ![]() Hierarchy |
7/1(-8%) | (6) Hierarchy 7/1, 7/2, creditable second of 8 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 5 days ago, just failing. One to consider. First past the post at Lingfield two weeks ago but disqualified; another near-miss latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) ![]() Hiatus |
14/1(-17%) | (2) Hiatus 14/1, C&D winner. Three wins from 14 runs last year. Latest win at Chelmsford City in December. Respectable fifth of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (6f, 7/1) 19 days ago. Ought to be in the shake-up. Three wins in 6f handicaps last year; remained in form since the latest; contender again. |

10/3(-21%) | (1) Harry Did 10/3, Very good third of 12 in handicap (5/1) at Southwell (6.1f) 12 days ago, conceding first run. Has to be taken seriously nudged up 1 lb. Best handicap effort so far when 3rd at Southwell 12 days ago; has C&D form; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) ![]() Holy Fire |
15/2(+53%) | (7) Holy Fire 15/2, C&D winner. Seventeen runs since last win in 2023. 11/1, tenth of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 53 days ago. Conditions to suit and she's on a dangerous mark; could bounce back with a big performance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) ![]() G'daay |
16/1(-33%) | (5) G'daay 16/1, Latest win at Lingfield in August. 9/1, eighth of 9 in handicap at this course (7f) 16 days ago. Must improve. All seven wins have come over 7f; fair mark if dropping in trip has the desired effect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) ![]() Mccauley's Tavern |
14/1(-17%) | (10) Mccauley's Tavern 14/1, C&D winner. 15/8, sixth of 9 in handicap at this C&D 16 days ago, slowly away. Cheekpieces back on with more needed. On a dangerous mark but failed to fire in a Class 6 here last time; others appeal more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) ![]() General Assembly |
11/1(+31%) | (4) General Assembly 11/1, 12/1, last of 9 in handicap at Catterick (6f, heavy). Off 99 days. First run for yard after leaving Harry Eustace. Visor on 1st time. Dangerous mark on last year's best form; new yard quick to deploy headgear; not discounted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) ![]() Big R |
14/1(-133%) | (8) Big R 14/1, 3-time C&D winner. Career best when winning 11-runner handicap (6/1) at this C&D 28 days ago. Scored comfortably there so he can go well again despite a 3 lb rise. Three-time C&D winner, including last month; could prove vulnerable from the widest stall. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) ![]() Wallop |
15/2(+38%) | (3) Wallop 15/2, C&D winner. 9/2, below form third of 7 in handicap at Lingfield (6f, AW) 45 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Needs a couple of these to falter. C&D winner who hinted at a revival in December when last seen; now goes in cheekpieces. |
An open contest in which many will fancy their chances, including Grenham Bay, who was a shade unfortunate when third behind Big R over C&D last month. Hierarchy, who was fourth that day, has posted two strong efforts since and is likely to be on the premises once again. However, preference is afforded to HARRY DID after he caught the eye when hitting the frame at Southwell recently and the unexposed four-year-old, who will have no problem with the switch to Polytrack, makes considerable appeal from just 1lb higher.
A few with chances but HARRY DID looks the way to go off just a 1 lb higher mark than when a very good Southwell third. Big R is next on the list on the back of his C&D victory last time, while Grenham Bay, Hiatus and Hierarchy also need considering for minor honours.
In an open event the C&D regular GRENHAM BAY is marginally preferred to Holy Fire and Hierarchy.

1st (7) ![]() Enpassant |
5/2(+29%) | (7) Enpassant 5/2, 7/1, good third of 12 in handicap at this C&D 7 days ago, short of room 2f out but keeping on. One to bear in mind again partnered by Rossa Ryan. Ran well over C&D last week and he's a strong contender off today's 1lb lower mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) ![]() Straight A |
3/1(+25%) | (2) Straight A 3/1, Career best when winning 8-runner handicap (9/1) at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 11 days ago. Equally as effective at this shorter trip and possibilities again nudged up 3 lb. All three AW wins on Tapeta but has form on Polytrack; shouldn't be too far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) ![]() Shahbaz |
12/1(+64%) | (4) Shahbaz 12/1, Last of 10 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f, 125/1) 37 days ago. Lightly raced for yard but can only be watched until showing more positive signs. Handicap mark in freefall but a revival may come when tackling 1m+; betting to guide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) ![]() Lunarscape |
6/1(-33%) | (5) Lunarscape 6/1, Latest win at Lingfield in September. Creditable second of 9 in handicap (13/2) at this course (1m) 14 days ago, keeping on but no match for winner. Not out of things back down in trip. Two 1m wins last year and second over 1m here two weeks ago; drop to 7f a slight query. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) ![]() Dion Baker |
18/1(-29%) | (3) Dion Baker 18/1, Three wins from 25 runs last year. Seventh of 9 in handicap (33/1) at this C&D 16 days ago, fading when headed over 1f out. Others appeal more judged on recent exploits. 0-23 on AW but effective at this track; not at best in recent starts and drawn widest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) ![]() Tyger Bay |
8/1(-129%) | (1) Tyger Bay 8/1, 4-time course winner who again ran well when placed third but later promoted to second in 7-runner handicap at Lingfield (6f, AW, 7/2) 14 days ago. Had no excuses from the front on that occasion but he's a player again operating from a handy mark back stepped up to 7f. Running well over 6f this winter and he's on a dangerous mark; stamina for 7f the query. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) ![]() Tronido |
11/2(+27%) | (6) Tronido 11/2, C&D winner. 5/1, eighth of 12 in handicap at this course (6f) in October, racing closer to pace than ideal. Mark has eased a little more back from 4 months off but others appeal more. Two handicap wins on AW last summer, including C&D; returns from a four-month absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) ![]() Ashford Hill |
10/1(-54%) | (8) Ashford Hill 10/1, Winner at Lingfield in November. 9/1, good second of 7 in handicap at this C&D 14 days ago, staying on final 1f. Eligible for lesser contests but respected nevertheless if starting better. Surprise Lingfield win in November and back at that level when second over C&D latest. |
A slow start was ultimately the undoing of Ashford Hill, who finished a narrow second over C&D a fortnight ago. She ought to be a real force if breaking on terms but, while she is respected, preference is for STRAIGHT A. Mick Appleby's charge would have been an extremely unfortunate loser at Wolverhampton recently but he did well to get up close home, and a subsequent 3lb rise does not look beyond him. Lunarscape is also noted.
STRAIGHT A got back to winning ways at Wolverhampton 11 days ago, always travelling fluently and getting a clear run when required to prevail in a tight finish. He's a lead player again with the drop back in trip holding no fears. Enpassant, Tyger Bay and Lunarscape head up the dangers.
Straight A should make another bold bid but ENPASSANT has been threatening this winter and he can belatedly exploit his lowly mark.

1st (6) ![]() Alrazeen |
15/2(+0%) | (6) Alrazeen 15/2, Four wins from 11 runs last year. 5/2, career best when winning 5-runner handicap at Southwell (16.5f) 54 days ago, in command 1f out. Appeals as the type who can progress further at this sort of trip and respected up 6 lb. Raised in grade this time but it was very straightforward last time at Southwell. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) ![]() Wonder Legend |
2/1(+20%) | (2) Wonder Legend 2/1, Lightly-raced 5-y-o who justified good support when resuming winning ways in 7-runner handicap (evens) at Southwell (14.1f) 79 days ago. Unexposed at this sort of trip and he's one to bear in mind again up just 2 lb. Only had the ten races and looks progressive; a winner last time and only 2lb higher. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) ![]() Cello |
10/3(+17%) | (5) Cello 10/3, Course winner. Good third of 7 in handicap (17/2) at Newcastle (16.2f) 19 days ago, running on having had to pick his way through. Still low-mileage as a 5-y-o and fancied to take advantage of this sort of mark before long. Course winner; knocking on the door in handicaps and Oisin Murphy rides for first time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) ![]() Moon Over Miami |
10/3(+0%) | (4) Moon Over Miami 10/3, Bred in the purple and looked a good prospect when winning each of his 2 starts in maiden/novice company last spring. Falsely run race no use to him back from 8 months off when fifth of 9 on handicap debut at Southwell (11.1f) 32 days ago and he remains capable of better. Up in trip. 2-2 on turf; unlikely that he gave his true running on AW/handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) ![]() Cool Party |
13/2(-8%) | (3) Cool Party 13/2, Three AW wins from 7 runs last year (two over C&D) and continued theme of creditable efforts when fourth of 7 in handicap (3/1) at Newcastle (16.2f) 19 days ago. No reason why he won't give another good account. Record of 6-20; likeably reliable and should give backers a run for their money. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) ![]() Hms President |
12/1(-9%) | (1) Hms President 12/1, Useful Flat performer who opened his account over hurdles on return to action here (2m) in November and duly stepped up on that when second in a Huntingdon novice (15.8f) a month later. Boasts a positive profile on artificial surfaces and respected back in this sphere. In good form over hurdles this winter; challenging mark but likely to run well. |
This looks to be a competitive event so only a tentative nod goes to ALRAZEEN. The four-year-old impressed when readily showing his rivals a clean pair of heels over an extended 2m at Southwell recently and another bold bid looks likely, despite a 6lb rise. Moon Over Miami was well backed when fifth in a warm race on his handicap debut over 1m3f at Southwell last month and he must enter calculations upped significantly in trip for top connections. HMS President and Wonder Legend can also make their presence felt.
Successful on each of his 2 starts as a 3-y-o, MOON OVER MIAMI found a falsely-run race no use to him when fifth on his return/handicap debut at Southwell (11.1f) 32 days ago. However, that run (his first for 8 months) ought to have blown the cobwebs away and he's well worth another chance to confirm his mark a workable one upped in trip. Last-time-out winners Wonder Legend and Alrazeen may be the pair to give him most to do.
A narrow verdict is given to WONDER LEGEND whose form is on an upward curve and he promises to improve again for 2m.

1st (1) ![]() Kinetic |
5/2(+9%) | (1) Kinetic 5/2, Four wins from 16 runs last year. 20/1, sixth of 9 in handicap at Lingfield (12f, AW) in a deeper race than this 12 days ago. Change of headgear. Not taken lightly. Capable filly but only sixth last time and inconsistency is creeping in; tries a visor. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) ![]() Always Waving |
5/2(+44%) | (3) Always Waving 5/2, One win from 2 runs last year. Winner at Southwell in December. Fourth of 7 in handicap (20/1) at Southwell (11.1f) 22 days ago. Remains unexposed. 1m3f novice winner; 4th on handicap debut in a race that didn't pan out too favourably. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) ![]() Shady Bay |
10/1(+0%) | (4) Shady Bay 10/1, Winner at Southwell in October. 18/1 and hooded for 1st time, eighth of 11 in handicap at Southwell (11.1f) 21 days ago. Tongue strap on 1st time. Others more persuasive. Southwell win has worked out but struggled since; hooded last time and now tongue tied. |

5th (6) ![]() Tiptoe |
25/1(-127%) | (6) Tiptoe 25/1, Lightly-raced winner. 50/1, last of 7 in handicap at Chelmsford City (10f) after 7 months off 20 days ago. Something to find on form. Maiden winner but has finished last in two handicaps, both after absences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) ![]() Storm Valley |
8/1(-129%) | (5) Storm Valley 8/1, C&D winner. Two wins from 4 runs last year. 8/1, career best when winning 14-runner handicap at Windsor (10f, heavy) when last seen, driven clear. Off 9 months. Big shout if ready to go. Has done well since joining Matt Crawley but has to defy an absence of 275 days. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) ![]() Last Empress |
6/1(+0%) | (7) Last Empress 6/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Looked rusty on first run since leaving Roger Varian after 6 months off when fourth of 11 in handicap at Kempton (11f) but went backwards at Southwell since. Fair fourth here on stable debut and perhaps didn't enjoy switching to Tapeta last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|DQ| (2) ![]() Sid's Annie |
5/1(+38%) | (2) Sid's Annie 5/1, Unreliable individual. Course winner. 8/1, fourth of 7 in handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 29 days ago, having hopeless task from position. Third run back from an absence when making some late gains over 9.4f last month. |
SID'S ANNIE caught the eye when staying on into fourth after being denied a clear run at a crucial stage over an extended 1m1f at Wolverhampton last month and, eased 2lb stepping back up in trip, she looks attractively handicapped. The unexposed Always Waving wasn't disgraced when fourth on her handicap debut over 1m3f at Southwell recently and she could go well off 2lb lower, while Kinetic has the ability to play a hand in a race of this nature.
STORM VALLEY did well for this stable last year and she remains on a fair mark if ready to go after 9 months off. Kinetic can make her presence felt back down in class, while Always Waving remains unexposed.
A trappy race. ALWAYS WAVING could be open to some improvement as her latest race didn't pan out all that favourably.
Ths is the racecard key.
