1st (7) (13/2 +19%) Largo Bay |
13/2(+19%) | (7) Largo Bay 13/2, Having been edging down in the weights, ended long losing run in 11-runner handicap at this course (12f, 10/3) 10 days ago. Task is now to build on his latest effort. Ended a lengthy losing run here ten days ago and a 2lb rise looks fair; possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (6/1 +50%) Placated |
6/1(+50%) | (1) Placated 6/1, Course winner who has returned to form on her last 2 starts, running up to her best behind a progressive rival when second of 9 in handicap at this course (12f, 7/2) 32 days ago. Merits consideration. Runner-up here (1m4f) in her last two starts and she remains feasibly treated; shortlisted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (5/1 -11%) Tortured Soul |
5/1(-11%) | (10) Tortured Soul 5/1, Made it back-to-back wins since joining his current yard when landing 10-runner handicap (6/5) at Wolverhampton (12.2f) 23 days ago. Not taken lightly as he goes further up in trip on his polytrack debut. Unbeaten in two AW runs for his current yard and he's open to more progress; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (9/2 +63%) Louisiana Bay |
9/2(+63%) | (2) Louisiana Bay 9/2, Run best excused when fifth of 10 in handicap at Wolverhampton (12.2f, 10/3) 21 days ago, unsuited by way race developed. Had been proving consistent before last time, but needs a bit extra if she's to open her account. Two runner-up efforts (1m4f) this winter but she didn't fire last time and is now 0-8. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (12) (22/1 +45%) Merry Minister |
22/1(+45%) | (12) Merry Minister 22/1, Well supported (4/1) but fared no better than of late when fifth of 9 in handicap at Kempton (8f) 19 days ago. Has eased further in the weights but he has something to find upped in distance. On much reduced mark but he's 0-10 over a variety of trips in handicaps; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (6/1 -50%) Destinado |
6/1(-50%) | (3) Destinado 6/1, Continued his fine start for his current trainer when winning 11-runner minor event at this course (10f, evens) 12 days ago, readily. Can add to his tally as he goes back up in trip. Record of 3-4 for his current yard and he's a big player again back in a 1m5f handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (25/1 +0%) Crazy Maisie |
25/1(+0%) | (8) Crazy Maisie 25/1, Successful at Chelmsford City (10f) in November and has remained in form since, fourth of 10 in handicap at the same C&D (9/1) 18 days ago. Can give her running once again as she goes back up in trip. In-form 5yo but her wins have come at 1m2f and this looks competitive back up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (10/1 -67%) Taxiing |
10/1(-67%) | (4) Taxiing 10/1, Has been going the right way in 3 starts for her current yard, getting off the mark in 10-runner handicap (11/8) at Wolverhampton (14f) 20 days ago. Can give another good account with the visor back on. Off the mark at Wolverhampton last month and a 3lb rise looks fair; respected back in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (14/1 +30%) Alghazaal |
14/1(+30%) | (5) Alghazaal 14/1, One win from 22 Flat runs. Has run well last 2 starts, making effort earlier than ideal when third of 9 in handicap at this course (12f, 5/1) 32 days ago. Can give his running but may just be vulnerable for win purposes. In-form 7yo but he's an infrequent winner and was behind Placated here last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (11/2 +50%) Fullforward |
11/2(+50%) | (9) Fullforward 11/2, Got back to winning ways at Windsor in August and ran at least as well when second of 11 in handicap at this course (12f, 11/2) 36 days ago. Could be thereabouts tried over this longer distance. 0-8 on AW but was runner-up off the same mark here (1m4f) last time; in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (6) (28/1 -75%) Black Smoke |
28/1(-75%) | (6) Black Smoke 28/1, Continued in good heart when length fourth of 10 to the reopposing Taxiing in handicap at Wolverhampton (14f, 2/1) 20 days ago. More required as he makes the switch to polytrack. In the frame on AW in his last three starts and he should go well again back in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (11) (66/1 -32%) Hiccups |
66/1(-32%) | (11) Hiccups 66/1, Hasn't offered much in a trio of starts so far, last of 8 in minor event at this course (10f, 250/1) 54 days ago. Needs to leave his previous efforts well behind upped in trip for his handicap debut. Unexposed 4yo but he needs a transformation upped to 1m5f on his handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Destinado returns to handicap company on the back of a classified stakes double and must be considered, but an increased mark leaves him with no margin for error and preference is for TAXIING. The David Evans-trained filly built on a near-miss at Chelmsford to open her account over 1m6f at Wolverhampton last month and, with scope for further improvement following that confidence-boosting success, a 3lb rise may not be enough to a halt her. Placated and Tortured Soul are others to consider in a tricky opener.
DESTINADO made it three wins from 4 starts since joining James Owen when successful at this course 12 days ago, doing well in the circumstances having had to come from a long way back, and he can score again in his current form. Heading the list of dangers is Tortured Soul, who also arrives bidding for a hat-trick, with Placated completing the shortlist.
An open race in which the vote goes to TORTURED SOUL, who made it 2-2 on AW with his comfortable win at Wolverhampton last month.

1st (1) (11/8 -10%) Coko Beach |
11/8(-10%) | (1) Coko Beach 11/8, High-class chaser. Course winner. 1 win from 3 runs this season. Respectable second of 12 in handicap chase at Aintree (25.8f, heavy, 6/1) 58 days ago. Merits consideration. Has endorsed his reputation in top staying handicaps this season, of significant interest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (9/2 +86%) Genois |
9/2(+86%) | (6) Genois 9/2, Useful hurdler. 4/1, eighth of 12 in handicap chase at Naas (16f, good to soft) 24 days ago. Significantly up in trip with more needed. Not of the better jumpers to have gone through his trainer's expert hands, best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (10/1 +38%) Fameaftertheglory |
10/1(+38%) | (5) Fameaftertheglory 10/1, One win from 22 NH runs. Nineteen runs since last win in 2021. Very good third of 13 in handicap chase (16/1) at Cheltenham (29.2f, good to soft) 52 days ago. Temperamental sort. Produced a very encouraging display at Cheltenham in December, this looks more demanding. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (7/4 -17%) Stattler |
7/4(-17%) | (2) Stattler 7/4, High-class chaser. 20/1, 13 lengths second of 4 to Allaho in Kinloch Brae Chase at Thurles (20.2f, heavy) 15 days ago. Back up in trip. Stable in good form. Not taken lightly. Just like Coko Beach has to be considered a hugely interesting recruit to this discipline. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (250/1 -67%) Knockiel Synge |
250/1(-67%) | (8) Knockiel Synge 250/1, Lightly-raced maiden under NH rules. Off over 2 years. Makes chase debut. First run for yard after leaving D. Harvey. Only one win in points but placed 11 times, unlikely to feature in a race of this quality. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (12/1 +45%) Enjoy D'allen |
12/1(+45%) | (4) Enjoy D'allen 12/1, Fairly useful chaser. Sixteen runs since last win in 2021. 40/1, pulled up in handicap chase at Leopardstown (24.4f, heavy) 40 days ago, tailed off when pulled up before last. Smart staying handicap chaser, needs to step up on what he has shown cross-country so far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (40/1 -186%) Three By Two |
40/1(-186%) | (10) Three By Two 40/1, Fair chaser. C&D winner. Creditable fourth of 8 in minor event chase (17/2) at this course (24f, soft) 71 days ago. This demands more, however. Has adapted well to the demands of this track, tough task against Coko Beach and Stattler. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (200/1 -60%) Jet Fighter |
200/1(-60%) | (7) Jet Fighter 200/1, Poor chaser. 124/1, eighth of 18 in minor event chase at Pardubice (34.3f, good) 120 days ago. Back down in trip. Point winner with moderate track form, will be well-schooled but faces a huge task. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (9) (125/1 +0%) Low Lie The Fields |
125/1(+0%) | (9) Low Lie The Fields 125/1, Fairly useful hurdler. Eleventh of 13 in handicap hurdle (16/1) at Listowel (20f, soft) 135 days ago. Switches from hurdles to chase. Up in trip. First run for yard after leaving Henry De Bromhead. Two wins over hurdles, sure to know his job for this but faces formidable opposition. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (33/1 -18%) Vital Island |
33/1(-18%) | (3) Vital Island 33/1, Fairly useful chaser. C&D winner. 28/1, eleventh of 13 in handicap chase at Cheltenham (29.2f, good to soft) 52 days ago. Tough ask. Specialist performer over this course, winner of 4m2f La Touche Cup last year, respected. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Coko Beach posted a fine second in the Becher Chase at Aintree in December and the nine-year-old is an interesting recruit to this unique discipline. Gordon Elliott's charge must enter calculations, but STATTLER edges the verdict. The Stowaway gelding was far from disgraced when runner-up over an inadequate 2m4f in a Grade 2 at Thurles recently and that should have put him spot on for his debut in this sphere. Fameaftertheglory should put his latest third-placed effort in this discipline at Cheltenham to good use and shouldn't be underestimated.
Willie Mullins' STATTLER has no Allaho to contend with this time so is fancied to go one better than his recent Thurles second to his top-class stablemate and get off the mark for the season. Gordon Elliott's Coko Beach rates much the biggest danger ahead of the talented but temperamental Fameaftertheglory.
Perhaps COKO BEACH, who has the merit of smart6 handicap chase form this season, will adapt better to this course than Stattler

1st (1) (5/2 +50%) Coniston George |
5/2(+50%) | (1) Coniston George 5/2, Bumper winner who came out best in a bruising finish to 2m Kelso maiden hurdle on return. Struggled up in grade at Wetherby just 3 weeks later but remains with potential. Won at Kelso in October; well beaten at Wetherby since but retains potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (4/1 -100%) Ridin Solo |
4/1(-100%) | (8) Ridin Solo 4/1, Irish point winner in October and made a promising start to hurdling career at Sedgefield (17f) 6 weeks ago, faced with what's likely to prove a far-from-optimum test under Rules. The third there won a handicap last week and he'll improve. Leading claims. Point winner who went close on hurdle debut at Sedgefield and holds leading claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (7/1 -56%) Old Gregorian |
7/1(-56%) | (2) Old Gregorian 7/1, Made a successful debut over hurdles after 6 months off in 2m Kelso maiden in October, drawing clear from promising Doyen du Bar who won next 2 starts and is now rated 127 (makes chase debut in 2.02 race here). Shaped as if amiss at Aintree next time but can get back on track if all is well. Won on hurdle debut at Kelso in October and heavy ground may have been too much at Aintree. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (12) (66/1 -164%) Dromlac Jury |
66/1(-164%) | (12) Dromlac Jury 66/1, Every chance when fell last sole start in Irish points but made a discouraging debut in this sphere at Hereford (21.7f, soft) last month. Pulled up on rules debut but bought for six figures after showing promise in Irish point. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (12/1 -60%) Rattling Road |
12/1(-60%) | (7) Rattling Road 12/1, £40,000 purchase after winning an Irish point in April 2022. Considerately handled when 23 lengths fifth of 12 to Doyen du Bar in 2m novice at Kelso on hurdling debut last month. Should do better. Point winner; fifth at Kelso last month when back from absence; in good hands to progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (10/3 +17%) Diamond Dice |
10/3(+17%) | (5) Diamond Dice 10/3, Held every chance when departing at the last in point and some promise in bumpers this term (pulled hard at Doncaster latest). Has plenty about him physically and worth a look on hurdles debut for yard that does well here. Considerable promise on first two bumper starts; key player if tapping back into that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (18/1 -112%) Jomig Des Bois |
18/1(-112%) | (6) Jomig Des Bois 18/1, £45,000 buy after winning point in Ireland in October 2021 from Hector Javilex (useful hurdler for Charlie Longsdon). Long absence to overcome and interesting to see how he shapes up in the betting with promising stablemate Ridin Solo. Won point in October 2021 but absent since and Brian Hughes rides stablemate Ridin Solo. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (22/1 -38%) The Best Way |
22/1(-38%) | (10) The Best Way 22/1, Shaped well when fourth of 10 in a bumper at Ayr in May 2022, making good progress early in the straight before his effort flattened out. Absent since and market may prove best guide to his chances. Fourth on debut back in May 2022; absent since but not ruled out each-way on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (66/1 -100%) Boot 'n' Shoe |
66/1(-100%) | (3) Boot 'n' Shoe 66/1, Reached the frame in a couple of AW bumpers in early 2022 and probably needed the run sent hurdling after nearly 2 years off over Christmas. This may reveal more. Made the frame in both bumpers but down the field on sole hurdle outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (7/1 +56%) Boy De La Vis |
7/1(+56%) | (4) Boy De La Vis 7/1, Won Newcastle bumper in December 2022 and probably needed the run on hurdles debut a year on at Hexham 8 weeks ago. Hood now tried. Pulled up on hurdle debut, but after absence; this bumper winner is not discounted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (125/1 -89%) Tanking Along |
125/1(-89%) | (9) Tanking Along 125/1, From the family of Bob Olinger but easy to back and showed little on debut at Sedgefield 3 weeks ago. Has a useful pedigree but he was tailed off at 33-1 on last month's debut at Sedgefield. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (125/1 -56%) Wilder Days |
125/1(-56%) | (11) Wilder Days 125/1, Little impact in points/Tipperary bumper. 0-4 in points and tailed off at 66-1 on bumper debut; probably best watched for new yard. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Ridin Solo posted a respectable second on his Rules/hurdle bow at Sedgefield on Boxing Day and the six-year-old has more going for him than most in this open affair. However, it may be worth taking a punt on timber debutant DIAMOND DICE. The Jonjo O'Neill-trained gelding has some fair bumper form in the book and he could take all the beating if translating that ability to this discipline. The downgraded Old Gregorian is also worth a second look.
RIDIN SOLO will benefit from further in due course but he made a promising start over this trip at Sedgefield on Boxing Day and looks the way to go with improvement on the way. Diamond Dice looks a good sort for jumping and is a big player. Jomig des Bois, a stablemate of the selection, is interesting, while Coniston George remains with potential having been given a break since Wetherby.
Jonjo O'Neill's runners always warrant respect at Carlisle and DIAMOND DICE is taken to make a winning start over hurdles.

1st (3) (2/1 +69%) How Impressive |
2/1(+69%) | (3) How Impressive 2/1, Latest win at Yarmouth in September. 16/1, last of 10 in handicap at Wolverhampton (7f) 17 days ago but he did go close over C&D on the previous occasion he was partnered by Oisin Murphy. On dangerous mark but he's not easy to predict and can miss the break; risks attached. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (6/1 -20%) Rogue Thunder |
6/1(-20%) | (2) Rogue Thunder 6/1, Winner of 7f novice at Chelmsford in November. Unable to make an impact in 2 handicaps since but it's still early days and this represents a drop in grade. Marquand up. Well held in both his handicaps and he needs to kick on again on this drop back in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (12/1 +14%) Swiss Pride |
12/1(+14%) | (9) Swiss Pride 12/1, Seven-time course winner. Below par when fifth of 8 in handicap at Kempton (6f) 19 days ago. First-time visor replaces his regular cheekpieces on a rare outing beyond 6f. All wins at 6f but he has some placed form at this trip; not ruled out in new headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (12/1 +40%) Local Bay |
12/1(+40%) | (5) Local Bay 12/1, Three wins from 11 runs last year. Latest win at Brighton in August. Sixth of 8 in handicap at Wolverhampton (7f, 25/1) 72 days ago. Out of sorts in his last two runs in the autumn and he needs a major revival. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (11/4 +31%) Freetodream |
11/4(+31%) | (10) Freetodream 11/4, Won at Brighton in May. 9/2, very good third of 9 in handicap at Kempton (7f) 47 days ago. Big player under Hollie Doyle. Brighton winner who was creditable third at Kempton on his return in December; in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (5/1 +33%) Beltane |
5/1(+33%) | (1) Beltane 5/1, Fifth of 7 in handicap (8/1) at Kempton (1m) 5 days ago. Hood on first time. On a winning mark but hard to be sure he's in good enough form to capitalise. Won at Beverley last summer but he's not matched that since; hood now added back at 7f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (22/1 +33%) A Pint Of Bear |
22/1(+33%) | (7) A Pint Of Bear 22/1, Back to winning ways at Wolverhampton (7f) last month but below-form fifth over this C&D since. Ended a long losing run at Wolverhampton but he wasn't in the same form over C&D last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (28/1 -40%) Bowman |
28/1(-40%) | (4) Bowman 28/1, C&D winner. Eleven runs since last win in 2022. 28/1, last of 11 in C&D handicap 16 days ago. First-time blinkers replace cheekpieces. Others more persuasive. Mark is tumbling but he needs to turn things around in new headgear; usually sets the pace. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (22/1 -22%) Impeach |
22/1(-22%) | (6) Impeach 22/1, Course winner. Latest win at Chelmsford (6f) in November. 16/1, creditable third of 6 over C&D 10 days ago, keeping on from too far back. Won at Chelmsford (6f) in November and was fair third over C&D latest; could be dangerous. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (150/1 -127%) Whistledown |
150/1(-127%) | (8) Whistledown 150/1, Below form seventh of 12 in handicap at Chepstow (6f, good) when last seen in August. First run for yard after leaving Jack Channon. The stable has done well with recruits from the same source. Didn't see much action last year and has something to prove on return for new yard. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Beltane and Rogue Thunder have slipped back down to workable marks and both look capable if putting their best foot forward, while Swiss Pride may appreciate the return to 7f after some decent efforts over shorter. However, FREETODREAM returned with a pleasing performance when third over this distance at Kempton in December and, with that pipe-opener under his belt, he could be the one to side with.
FREETODREAM shaped quite well back on AW at Kempton just before Christmas and can build on that promise and strike under Hollie Doyle. How Impressive has been runner-up on both previous attempts over C&D, including under today's pilot Oisin Murphy, and is second choice ahead of Rogue Thunder, who is less exposed than most of these and takes a slight drop in grade here.
The vote goes to triple course winner IMPEACH, who is back on his last winning mark and was a fair third over C&D ten days ago.

1st (6) (28/1 -12%) Lar's Lass |
28/1(-12%) | (6) Lar's Lass 28/1, 8/1, below form eighth of 13 in handicap chase at Down Royal (20f, soft) 41 days ago. Easy to look elsewhere. Made little impression at Down Royal and is up against it from 7lb out of the handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (11/4 +31%) Kates Hill |
11/4(+31%) | (5) Kates Hill 11/4, Didn't need to improve to win 6-runner maiden chase at this course (22.7f, soft, 15/8) 22 days ago. Runner-up in her previous handicap. Likely to go well. Shaped well on handicap debut, won a conditions race last time, could prove hard to beat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (5/1 +9%) Must Be Obeyed |
5/1(+9%) | (2) Must Be Obeyed 5/1, Course winner. 25/1, pulled up in Grade 3 mares event at Fairyhouse (21.4f, heavy) 35 days ago won by Riviere D'etel, weakening soon after. Solid overall form in handicaps, can be forgiven failure in a Grade 3 contest last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (6/5 +4%) La Malmason |
6/5(+4%) | (1) La Malmason 6/5, Promising sort. 11/4, career best when winning 12-runner handicap chase at Cheltenham (20.6f, good to soft) 52 days ago, bit in hand. Likely capable of even better. The one to beat. Winning favourite at Cheltenham in her first handicap chase, every chance she can feature. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (6/1 -71%) Bonnie Kellie |
6/1(-71%) | (3) Bonnie Kellie 6/1, Latest win in chase at Clonmel in October. Very good second of 6 in handicap chase at this course (22.7f, soft, 11/4) 22 days ago. Respected. Took a 4lb rise for finishing second here last time, that could make things difficult. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (14/1 -40%) Regina Dracones |
14/1(-40%) | (4) Regina Dracones 14/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2022. Eighth of 12 in handicap chase (14/1) at Limerick (19.4f, heavy) 39 days ago, inadequate test. Needs a couple of these to falter. Not one of her better displays at Limerick, previous Fairyhouse third was promising. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
LA MALMASON built on the promise of her third behind Found A Fifty at Down Royal when making a successful raid on her handicap debut over fences at Cheltenham in December. The winning margin doesn't tell the full story as she appeared to win with something to spare and a 6lb rise is unlikely to be an inconvenience. Bonnie Kellie took a step back in the right direction when runner-up here last month when she arguably would have won but for a bad mistake at the second last. Kates Hill appeals most of the remainder.
LA MALMASON won a competitive handicap at Cheltenham last time with a bit in hand and looks more than good enough to give the weight away to this opposition. Bonnie Kellie and Kates Hill can battle it out for the forecast spot.
Cheltenham handicap La Malmason may struggle to concede 24lb to KATES HILL, winner of a conditions race here last month.

1st (3) (9/2 -125%) Gardener |
9/2(-125%) | (3) Gardener 9/2, Making his first start since leaving Alex Hales, improved on his hurdles form when easily winning handicap at Southwell on chase debut in December. Clear when unseating 2 out at Newcastle last time, so he can make amends and resume winning ways. Set to make it 2-2 over fences only to unseat two out at Newcastle; may well make amends. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (8/1 +11%) Carcaci Castle |
8/1(+11%) | (4) Carcaci Castle 8/1, Bumper winner in Ireland who also won over hurdles on his first 2 starts for his current yard last season. His form has gone the wrong way since, though, failing to beat a rival at Musselburgh last time. Revival needed as he goes chasing with cheekpieces applied. Perhaps he'll be suited by chasing and the cheekpieces but others have far less to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (5/2 -11%) Martator |
5/2(-11%) | (5) Martator 5/2, Useful winning hurdler in France but below that level for his current yard in 2022/23. However, there have been better signs sent chasing this season, going off a bit harder than ideal when runner-up at Newbury last time. Can go well again with cheekpieces back on. Runner-up behind well-treated winners at Newbury the last twice; firmly in calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (6/4 +55%) Doyen Du Bar |
6/4(+55%) | (1) Doyen Du Bar 6/4, Very lightly raced for his age and made his second start over hurdles a winning one when successful at Ayr in December. Defied a penalty when making all in Kelso novice a month later and he has the potential do even better over fences. Respected. Two easy novice hurdle wins this winter; leading player if taking to fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (8/1 -45%) Fortescue Wood |
8/1(-45%) | (2) Fortescue Wood 8/1, Bumper winner who made a successful start over hurdles after 20 months off at Ayr last season. Defied a penalty at the second attempt in novice at the same course in February last year, before shaping as if better for the run when fourth at Haydock in December. Makes chase debut. Lightly raced 9yo; won two novice hurdles last term; not written off on first chase start. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
GARDENER looked set to complete a double when sprawling on landing and unseating his rider after the second-last fence at Newcastle last month. A 4lb rise in the ratings may not be enough to prevent Olly Murphy's gelding gaining compensation and a third career victory could be on the horizon. Connections of progressive hurdler Doyen Du Bar have wasted little time in getting him over fences and he could have more to offer entering this discipline, with fellow in-form contender Martator completing the shortlist.
GARDENER has shown improved form switched to chasing since joining his current yard, in the process of making it 2 from 2 over fences when departing at Newcastle a month ago, and he remains capable of better in this sphere. He can get the better of Doyen du Bar, who appeals as the type to make a chaser, while Martator can also give another good account.
A hot little race. DOYEN DU BAR has impressed over hurdles the last twice and can complete a hat-trick on this chase/handicap debut.

200/1(-506%) | (5) Legal Mind 200/1, Remains a maiden after 16 Flat runs. Off over 3 years. Blinkered for 1st time. Could only be fancied if the subject of market support. 16-race maiden who returns after a massive absence and can only be watched; new headgear. |

12th (11) (125/1 -150%) Ricardo Ofworthing |
125/1(-150%) | (11) Ricardo Ofworthing 125/1, Poor gelding. Last of 10 in handicap (66/1) at Kempton (8f) 14 days ago. 14-race maiden who has poor claims on most of his form; others preferred. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Ajrad and HOLD THE PRESS were separated by the narrowest of margins when the former scored over this C&D last month and they could fight out the finish again here. The latter is 1lb better off with the winner this time and he has a fine record around here, so could be the safest option as he bids to reverse the from. Time Patrol was a close second in a similar event at Kempton last time and he is another to consider.
NEPTUNE LEGEND wasn't seen to best effect when well backed for a similar race at Wolverhampton 3 weeks ago and gets another chance with Hollie Doyle now up. Stablemate Time Patrol is interesting, while there won't be much between recent C&D 1-2 Ajrad and Hold The Press again and they won't be far away.
Several have claims but the vote goes to AJRAD, who got back on the scoresheet when beating Hold The Press over C&D last month.

10th (3) (25/1 -213%) I Get It |
25/1(-213%) | (3) I Get It 25/1, €68,000 3-y-o, Telescope gelding. Brother to fairly useful hurdler Martha Divine, and useful hurdler/fairly useful chaser Honest John. Dam unraced. One to note in the betting. Brother to a winning hurdler, half-brother to five winners including the useful Out Sam. |

Will probably come on for the run. First foal out of an unraced mare, not a bad pedigree but unlikely to be a major player. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
MERCUREY made a pleasing return to action here when finishing third on his first outing for 13 months and the six-year-old remains open to a fair amount of improvement. Lightkeeper shaped with promise on his Rules debut when chasing home Tullyhill at Naas and that experience is likely to stand him in good stead going forward. Supreme Ruler is bred to be useful and commands respect along with Milan Dollar Lady, who is a half-sister to Grade 1-winning chaser Road To Respect.
This represents a good opportunity for MERCUREY, who was third in a big-field maiden won by his potentially smart stablemate Lisnagar Fortune a few weeks ago. He is entitled to come on for that (first run following a 13-month break) and, with very few miles on the clock, he remains open to improvement. Lightkeeper made a promising start under Rules at Naas last month and he is second choice ahead of likely-looking newcomers Supreme Ruler and I Get It, both of whom need a market check.
Following a solid display behind stablemate Lisnagar Fortune over C&D last month, MERCUREY should be too strong for these rivals.

2nd (1) (11/8 +27%) Lunar Discovery |
11/8(+27%) | (1) Lunar Discovery 11/8, Dual bumper winner last season. Also won first 2 starts over hurdles (both 2m Hexham) and acquitted herself well stepped up to listed level at Haydock (19f, heavy) before Christmas, finishing 2 lengths second of 9. Double penalty here but should still go well. Second in Listed mares' novice at Haydock last time; leading claims despite double penalty. |

3/1(-33%) | (6) Drumlee Spud 3/1, Successful in sole point and promising second in a bumper and novice hurdles on first 2 starts under Rules. Narrowly in front when falling at final flight at Stratford; strong claims. |

9/2(+55%) | (2) Blue Baloo 9/2, Fairly useful in bumpers and made a successful debut over hurdles in 12-runner maiden at Newcastle (2½m, good to soft) in November. Well behind Lunar Discovery in a Haydock listed race since, though. Work to do with Lunar Discovery on latest form but each-way claims now back down in grade. |

7th (8) (22/1 -144%) Parkin Fine |
22/1(-144%) | (8) Parkin Fine 22/1, Promising return from a long absence when second on 2m Huntingdon hurdle debut (good to soft) in November. Not in the same form when a remote second on testing ground at Catterick just after Christmas. Improvement is needed but she's in top hands and may have more to offer. |

|PU| (12) (400/1 -167%) Smart Lady |
400/1(-167%) | (12) Smart Lady 400/1, Hasn't offered much in 3 hurdles. Wind surgery since last seen in December needs to spark major improvement. Has struggled on all three starts; transformation needed on first run since wind surgery. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Dual hurdle winner LUNAR DISCOVERY lost little in defeat when posting a fine second in a Listed contest at Haydock in late December and she may have too much class on this return to class 4 company. Drumlee Spud appears the pick of the remainder having looked set to go close when falling at Stratford in November. Ben Pauling's mare receives a fair amount of weight, including Beau Morgan's 5lb claim, and she isn't taken lightly. Dontyawantme and Rialannah could battle it out for third.
DRUMLEE SPUD may have won at Stratford last time but for crashing out at the final flight and is taken to make the most of the weight she receives from the useful Lunar Discovery. Rialannah made an encouraging start to her hurdle career at Huntingdon recently and looks best of the remainder.
Having run a cracker when a Listed runner-up at Haydock in December, LUNAR DISCOVERY is taken to return to winning ways.

ELEANOR CROSS couldn't land a telling blow in the Winter Oaks here 16 days ago but should be more at home back in novice company. She has a lot less on her plate than when beaten by a little under seven lengths in that class 2 handicap and she's taken to finally get off the mark. Kempton runner-up Birthday Angel and Lartigue are the ones expected to put up most resistance.
There was a lot to like about CAUSTIC's first run on the Flat at Wolverhampton just before Christmas and he can prove too strong for Lartigue and Eleanor Cross.
In a tight-knit affair, the main focus is between Caustic and LARTIGUE, with Karl Burke's colt narrowly preferred.

9/1(+10%) | (3) Ebenezer Scrooge 9/1, Fair hurdler. Thirteenth of 17 in handicap hurdle at Navan (20f, heavy, 18/1) 79 days ago so needs to bounce back. Has ran poorly on his last three starts including handicap debut last time; lots to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Linden Arden was sent off at a short price for a Leopardstown handicap on his debut for the Willie Mullins yard and while he disappointed that day, it would be no surprise to see him bounce back now returned to maiden company. All For Rachel must be considered on the back of a handicap second at Navan recently and Magic Sadler made the frame in a similar event nine days ago, but it could pay to take a chance on PIRATE ISLAND. Third over 2m the last twice, he has been doing his best work at the finish and he should relish this step up in trip.
LINDEN ARDEN couildn't make a winning start for Willie Mullins when sixth at Leopardstown but went too freely after an absence there and remains one to be interested in for his new handler. Pirate Island and Chiefs Kingdom both arrive in good order and can chase home the selection in that order.
It might well be worth giving another chance to LINDEN ARDEN om his second run for Closutton after a disappointing opening run

1st (3) (6/4 +50%) Lilith |
6/4(+50%) | (3) Lilith 6/4, Put in a good round of jumping when landing this race 12 months ago. Below par since but she has slipped down the weights as a consequence (4 lb lower than last year) and will be a threat if the addition of more severe headgear (sports first-time visor) has the desired effect. Hasn't threatened this season but is 4lb lower than when winning this last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (3/1 -20%) Game On For Glory |
3/1(-20%) | (2) Game On For Glory 3/1, Bumper/hurdles winner who duly stepped up on Wetherby comeback spin in November (first run for almost 2 years) when runner-up in first-time cheekpieces on chase debut at Warwick (2½m, heavy). Poor effort in listed company since but she's unexposed in this sphere and probably worth another chance. Flopped at Wincanton last time but good second on chase debut at Warwick previously. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (25/1 -150%) Libby |
25/1(-150%) | (4) Libby 25/1, Fair form over hurdles for Joseph O'Brien but well held on the Flat and over hurdles for this yard. Hopes pinned on this step up in trip/switch to fences sparking improvement. Yet to shine for this yard (Flat/hurdles) and has plenty to prove on today's chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (13/8 -47%) Royale Margaux |
13/8(-47%) | (1) Royale Margaux 13/8, Five-time hurdles/dual chase winner in France for David Cottin and fairly useful form over fences in this country. Understandably struggled in listed company last time and and better judged on her solid second in a handicap at Cheltenham (20.6f, good to soft) on penultimate start. The one to beat. Good second in Cheltenham handicap in December and faced tough Listed task next time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
ROYALE MARGAUX was outclassed in a Listed contest when fifth behind Limerick Lace at Doncaster at the end of December. That said, the return to handicap company, in what appears to be an excellent opportunity on paper, can see her gain a first success in the UK, especially if she repeats her second at Cheltenham the time before. Game On For Glory boasts a similar profile to the selection as she also drops from Listed company. Lucy Wadham's mare is likely to be the main threat, while a change of headgear to a visor may benefit Lilith.
LILITH returned to form when winning this race last year and may well repeat the dose this time round having slipped to a handy mark. Indeed, she's 4 lb lower compared to 12 months ago and the first-time visor/prospect of a soft lead are other factors which could potentially help tilt the scales in her favour. Royale Margaux will be a big threat if reproducing the form of her Cheltenham effort in December and she is feared most ahead of Game On For Glory.
Topweight ROYALE MARGAUX was a good second on her last handicap start and earns the vote now back down in grade.

6/5(+40%) | (1) Romilda 6/5, 7/2, creditable third of 14 in handicap at Chelmsford City (10f) 15 days ago. Merits consideration. 0-8 but was a good third at Chelmsford latest and is respected on this drop back in grade. |

6/1(+40%) | (5) Eagle Eyed Tom 6/1, Winner at Beverley in August. 33/1, good fourth of 9 in handicap at this C&D (AW) 12 days ago. Can give a good account. Fair fourth over C&D 12 days ago but he needs to find more to get back on the scoresheet. |

16/1(-33%) | (3) Molly Valentine 16/1, Course winner. Last of 10 in handicap at Windsor (10f, good to firm, 9/2). Off 6 months and needs to hit the ground running. Finished last of ten when upped to 1m2f last time and has something to prove on her return. |

7th (8) (25/1 -257%) Renesmee |
25/1(-257%) | (8) Renesmee 25/1, Winner at Yarmouth in August. 33/1, third of 10 in handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 17 days ago, not ideally placed. Not discounted. Perked up with eyecatching third at Wolverhampton and has claims if she can build on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (15/2 -173%) Shalfa |
15/2(-173%) | (7) Shalfa 15/2, Visored for 1st time, career best when winning 9-runner handicap at this C&D (AW, 11/2) 32 days ago, always holding on. Player with headgear again sported. Won with a visor added over C&D last month and a 3lb rise looks fair; shortlisted. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
ROMILDA is still a maiden through eight starts but has shaped with enough promise to suggest she has a race of this nature within her compass. A daughter of Kingman out of a Galileo mare trained by William Haggas, she is going to breakthrough sooner rather than later and the handicapper has given her a chance by dropping her 1lb for a close-up third at Chelmsford recently. Shalfa appreciated the first-time visor when scoring over C&D latest and heads the list of dangers from Masqool.
SHALFA showed the benefit of a change of headgear when going in over C&D and can make light of a 3 lb rise in the weights with the visor again reached for. Renesmee didn't enjoy the rub of the green when third at Wolverhampton last time and is feared most ahead of Romilda and Eklil.
An interesting race in which ROMILDA gets the vote ahead of recent C&D winner Shalfa and the in-form 6yo Masqool.

2nd (1) (9/2 -80%) Shannon Royale |
9/2(-80%) | (1) Shannon Royale 9/2, Course maiden winner in November. Disappointing when eighth of 11 in listed handicap hurdle (3/1) at Navan (20f, heavy) since but might be worth another chance with first-time blinkers replacing cheekpieces. Might still proved well-handicapped off this mark and blinkers are tried; could go well. |

3rd (6) (13/2 +7%) Petit King |
13/2(+7%) | (6) Petit King 13/2, Course winner. Winner in hurdle here in December. Respectable fifth of 9 in handicap hurdle at Leopardstown (20f, soft, 12/1) 38 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Others more persuasive. Unable to match previous win at Leopardstown subsequently and cheekpieces are tried today. |

Respected, particularly if the betting vibes are strong. Faller on his handicap debut at Thurles; a likely factor here if that has not left a mark. |

7th (4) (7/1 -8%) Prince Palace |
7/1(-8%) | (4) Prince Palace 7/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Fine third of 10 in handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse (24f, soft, 5/1) 23 days ago. Likely to give another good account. Drops back in trip here and no surprise should he try to make it a test; each-way chance. |

8th (3) (16/1 -100%) Sign From Above |
16/1(-100%) | (3) Sign From Above 16/1, Winner in hurdle at Navan in September. Bit below form fifth of 14 in handicap hurdle at Chepstow (19.4f, heavy, 12/1) 114 days ago. Pretty versatile as to ground and might well be primed for a big run after a nice break. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
SHANNON ROYALE claimed the scalp of the well-regarded Tullyhll when easily landing a maiden hurdle here in November, so it was disappointing that he failed to land a blow in a Listed handicap the following month. However, he sports first-time blinkers now and Gordon Elliott's six-year-old looks worth another chance dropping in class. Morricone was a ready winner of a handicap over the extended 2m here three weeks ago and he could prove the biggest threat to the selection, ahead of Prince Palace.
SHANNON ROYALE failed to do himself justice when joint-favourite for a good-quality handicap at Navan last time but had been progressive prior to that, including a course maiden win, and is given another chance in first-time blinkers. Prince Palace made a solid start to his handicap career when third at Fairyhouse last month and is feared most unless the market vibes are notably strong surrounding Intent Approach.
Preference is for INTENT APPROACH, a faller when fancied at Thurles last time but worth another chance off a potentially friendly mark

10th (2) (100/1 -614%) Portstorm |
100/1(-614%) | (2) Portstorm 100/1, A fair 21f winner in 2020 and has rejoined former yard after a winless spell in Ireland for Colin McBratney. Needs to hit the ground running after 10 moonths off. Returns from absence over what is likely to be an inadequate trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (4) (14/1 -100%) Grand Soufle |
14/1(-100%) | (4) Grand Soufle 14/1, Scored at Cartmel in 2022 and not disgraced after 15 months off when running-on fourth of 12 in handicap hurdle at Newcastle (16.9f, good to soft, 11/1) 74 days ago. Not taken lightly if building on last effort. Newcastle comeback wasn't devoid of promise and he could build on that today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
EL JEFE made it three wins on the bounce at Haydock just before Christmas in a conditional jockeys' event and an 8lb rise for that success is mostly negated with his rider able to utilise his claim on this occasion. Pretending is likely to appreciate a drop back in trip based on her recent fourth at Lingfield, while Skycutter and Serious Ego are others capable of being in the mix.
Lots with chances but PRETENDING arrives at the top of her game and is taken to quickly resume winning ways eased 1 lb for her good Lingfield fourth last time out. El Jefe rates the obvious danger in his bid to rattle off a four-timer, with Skycutter, Applaus and Kingston Bridge others to consider in a very open contest.
Things have clicked for EL JEFE, who beat an improver at Haydock when completing a hat-trick, and his winning spree can continue.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A return to 7f saw an improved bid from BERRYGATE when a close-up second at Southwell last Tuesday and she ticks plenty of the right boxes racing off the same mark on this quick turnaround. Handicap debutant Silver Trumpet appears fairly treated on his return from a 175-day break and a subsequent gelding operation may unlock some potential too. Market support for the son of Advertise would increase interest, while Irrelevant makes most appeal of the remainder.
BERRYGATE took a step forward when an excellent Southwell second last time out and can go one better now off the same mark. Irrelevant wasn't seen to best effect when a recent third at Kempton and is next on the list ahead of polytrack-debutant Wrestling Revenue and Romanee, who makes his handicap bow.
This can go to BERRYGATE (nap), who went close on her handicap debut at Southwell last week and is well treated off the same mark here.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
The stoutly-bred BESTALINE offered far more encouragement when a staying-on third over an extended 2m 4f here recently. This rise in distance could do the trick for Gordon Elliott's mare and a breakthrough victory over hurdles may be on the cards. Although a 7lb rise will make life tougher for last month's Clonmel scorer Lissen To The Lady, the veteran still warrants respect in her current mood. She may give the selection most to think about, ahead of the unexposed Pipers Boreen.
NO FUSSING made a well-backed rapid improver work hard for the win here 3 weeks ago and could be the way to go. Clonmel-winner Lissen to The Lady and Pipers Boreen are a couple of the other likely players in a good contest.
The one to beat could well be NO FUSSING(nap), whose excellent second over C&D last time showed that she is thriving on racing

Should make a bold bid for the hat-trick. Unexposed 7yo who has won his last two and could still be ahead of the handicapper. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (17/2 -42%) Five Dollar Fine |
17/2(-42%) | (5) Five Dollar Fine 17/2, Maiden hurdler who made an encouraging start over fences, fifth of 14 in 2m3f handicap chase at Catterick. Hasn't built on that since but back down in class here and longer trip may help. There's a rethink regarding trip but he won over 3m in a point in 2021 & is not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (12/1 +0%) Wavelength |
12/1(+0%) | (6) Wavelength 12/1, Fair maiden hurdler in Ireland for Gavin Cromwell. Got off the mark for his new yard in handicap chase at Hexham 20 months ago. Well held on belated return there in November but stepped up appreciably on that when fourth at Carlisle and entitled to come on again. Fair fourth here last time on second start back from absence; could build on that today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (10/1 -25%) Nights In Venice |
10/1(-25%) | (1) Nights In Venice 10/1, Fair maiden handicap hurdler who shaped as if better for the run both starts this season. Has the size to make a chaser and potentially on a nice mark so not taken lightly now switched to fences. Below best over hurdles this season but wind op since last time; makes chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (12/1 -33%) Don Brocco |
12/1(-33%) | (9) Don Brocco 12/1, Modest winner at 25f over hurdles. Similar form over fences, fourth of 11 at Catterick (25.2f, soft, 20/1) 25 days ago. Looks competitive on form. Fair efforts in defeat on two of his last three starts and he may be in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (20/1 +0%) Uptown Harry |
20/1(+0%) | (2) Uptown Harry 20/1, Ridden positively and took full advantage of a drop in the weights when landing 9-runner handicap chase at Carlisle (20f) in March. Yet to fire this season, however. Won off 4lb higher here last March but has struggled to get competitive this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (25/1 -257%) Gibberwell |
25/1(-257%) | (8) Gibberwell 25/1, Got off the mark over fences at Hexham in April and good placed efforts last 3 starts, third of 6 in handicap chase at Catterick (25.2f, heavy, 16/5) 35 days ago. Respected. In the first three on his last three starts and could be thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (28/1 -133%) Aire Valley Lad |
28/1(-133%) | (3) Aire Valley Lad 28/1, Tricky customer who bounced back to capitalise on a handy mark in 8-runner contest at Newcastle but merely underlined his inconsistency at Wetherby next time. Inconsistent, and pulled up last time, but second in this last year and not discounted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (33/1 -83%) Dark Duomo |
33/1(-83%) | (11) Dark Duomo 33/1, Poor maiden hurdler for Philip Hobbs & Johnson White and failed to land a blow in a couple of handicap chases for this yard. Took little interest back over hurdles next time. 6yo who has shown some ability, but on recent evidence it's best to look elsewhere. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (7) (17/2 +29%) Our Friend Mo |
17/2(+29%) | (7) Our Friend Mo 17/2, Best effort when runner-up in handicap chase at Bangor (20.3f, heavy, 12/1) on debut over fences 26 days ago, doing her best work late on. Failed to match that next time but return to further should suit. Merely 6th at Leicester last month but encouraging 2nd on chase debut at Bangor previously. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (16/1 -191%) Robert D'ores |
16/1(-191%) | (10) Robert D'ores 16/1, Offered little in a handful of runs over hurdles but made much more of an impact in 2 runs over fences, clear when unseated rider 2 out in 3m Hexham handicap chase in May. Well held back over hurdles at Newcastle on return but worth another chance back in this sphere. Promise last May on first two chase starts and could improve for last month's hurdle run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (25/1 -25%) Old Page |
25/1(-25%) | (12) Old Page 25/1, Remains a maiden after 22 NH runs. Runner-up last 2 starts but those came in very weak events and he's 6 lb out of the handicap here. 0-19 over fences but a fair second the last twice and has each-way possibilities. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BREEZE OF WIND has progressed nicely over fences and the seven-year-old arrives in search of a hat-trick of victories, with the most recent coming at Uttoxeter in December. That was his first attempt over 3m and the manner of that performance suggested there could be plenty more to come. Gibberwell has run with credit on his latest outings and is likely to enter the reckoning along with Wavelength, who could step forward from his fourth-placed effort here in December.
BREEZE OF WIND is improving fast so a further 5 lb rise may not be enough to prevent the hat-trick. The lightly-raced Robert d'Ores is worth another chance back in this sphere so is next best ahead of Nights In Venice, who has the size to make a chaser.
The improving 7yo BREEZE OF WIND (nap) has won in good style at Hexham and Uttoxeter the last twice and can complete a hat-trick.

1st (8) (4/1 +67%) Free As A Bird |
4/1(+67%) | (8) Free As A Bird 4/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Below form sixth of 10 in nursery (12/1) at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 41 days ago. Needs a couple of these to falter. Has not made a serious impact in her five runs and needs improvement back up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (10/3 +33%) Hot Front |
10/3(+33%) | (3) Hot Front 10/3, Course winner in August. 10/3, respectable fourth of 8 in handicap at Chelmsford City (5f) 15 days ago. Visor on 1st time. Has good chance on pick of form. Well held in her three handicaps and has something to prove at this new trip; visor added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (7/1 -133%) Musical Diva |
7/1(-133%) | (6) Musical Diva 7/1, 9/4, career best when winning 7-runner handicap at Southwell (5f) 11 days ago. Hiked up 11 lb but scored comfortably there so she's a player up to 6f in her hat-trick bid. Major improver who has won with plenty in hand in her last two starts; big player again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (9/2 +10%) She Is A Keeper |
9/2(+10%) | (1) She Is A Keeper 9/2, Winner at Kempton in September. 7/1, creditable fourth of 10 in nursery at this C&D (AW). Off 101 days and one for the shortlist. Ended last year with a Kempton win and a close fourth over C&D; respected on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (14/1 +44%) It's Showtime |
14/1(+44%) | (7) It's Showtime 14/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Last of 10 in nursery (10/1) at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 41 days ago. Others have achieved more. Some promise in novice events but was last of ten on her handicap debut at Wolverhampton. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (5/1 +9%) Wren Officer |
5/1(+9%) | (5) Wren Officer 5/1, Winner at Newcastle in January and good fourth of 10 in handicap (16/1) at Southwell (6.1f) 13 days ago. Can give a good account. Won at Newcastle but was well held in a Class 5 last time; one of two runners for yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (17/2 -13%) Graceful Mary |
17/2(-13%) | (4) Graceful Mary 17/2, Lightly-raced winner. Winner at Wolverhampton in November. Seventh of 10 in handicap (5/1) at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 24 days ago so needs to bounce back. Still unexposed but she's been disappointing in both handicaps and has questions to answer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (11/1 +21%) Vanity Pays |
11/1(+21%) | (2) Vanity Pays 11/1, Seventh of 11 in handicap (80/1) at Kempton (7f) 14 days ago. Blinkers on 1st time with more needed. Ex-Irish filly who is 0-10 and others are more convincing; blinkers are tried back at 6f. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Musical Diva has proved a different proposition since being ridden more prominently, as evidenced in last month's Wolverhampton/Southwell double, but an 11lb rise for her latest victory may leave the David O'Meara-trained filly vulnerable. With that in mind, it could be worth taking a punt on HOT FRONT. The combination of a step up in trip and first-time visor could unlock enough improvement for the daughter of Soldier's Call to score for a second time. She Is A Keeper and Wren Officer are also noted.
MUSICAL DIVA has been hit hard by the official assessor for her recent Southwell success but had something left in the tank there and that form is working out well so she gets the nod. In-form Wren Officer appeals as the one to chase home David O'Meara's hat-trick seeke, with course-scorer Hot Front appealng as the pick of the rest for minor honours.
Top of the list is MUSICAL DIVA, who has surged clear in her last two runs and may well be able to strike again back up in trip.

1st (4) (17/2 +29%) Caldwell |
17/2(+29%) | (4) Caldwell 17/2, Latest win here in December. 11/1, last of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (16.6f) 29 days ago. Back down in trip and he looks vulnerable on balance. Two AW wins from seven starts, including here; way down the field at Wolverhampton latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (25/1 -317%) Swinging London |
25/1(-317%) | (6) Swinging London 25/1, Fair winner at 16f over hurdles. 2/1 and blinkered for 1st time, running respectably when falling in a claiming hurdle at Leicester (15.5f, heavy) 26 days ago. One to note in the betting back on the level for new yard. Hurdle winner; fell on final 2 starts for O Murphy; first AW run for three years. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (5/1 +29%) Animato |
5/1(+29%) | (1) Animato 5/1, 40/1, creditable fifth of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (14f) 17 days ago, needing stiffer test. Dropping back in trip here looks a good move and he's worth considering. Two close calls in the autumn (1m4f, turf; 2m at Newcastle); lesser efforts of late. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (5/6 +0%) Simiyann |
5/6(+0%) | (3) Simiyann 5/6, 14/1, second of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (16.6f) 29 days ago, just failing. Up just 1 lb for that near miss and will surely go close again, provided she is not inconvenienced by this drop back in trip. Had 1m4f form in France; two good Wolverhampton runs in Britain (1m1f and 2m); good chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (14/1 -40%) Shake A Leg |
14/1(-40%) | (5) Shake A Leg 14/1, 10/1, tenth of 11 in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f). Off 98 days. Record stands at 0-13 on the AW but he has hit the crossbar a couple of times on synthetics and is dangerous to discount off this reduced mark. Well treated on 1m4f turf wins in early 2022; 0-13 on AW but handles Tapeta. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (16/1 -78%) Midnight Lion |
16/1(-78%) | (2) Midnight Lion 16/1, One win from 3 runs last year. Tongue strap on for 1st time in this code, last of 10 in handicap (50/1) at this course (12.1f) 31 days ago. Needs to bounce back. Lightly raced; pulled up over hurdles for new yard; last of 10 over C&D since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (15/2 +53%) Night Bear |
15/2(+53%) | (7) Night Bear 15/2, C&D winner. 66/1, eighth of 10 in handicap at this course (12.1f) 31 days ago. Now finds himself with a bit to prove. C&D winner in late 2022; not in the best of form since back from break in September. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (12/1 -71%) Can Can Girl |
12/1(-71%) | (9) Can Can Girl 12/1, Seventeen runs since last win in 2022. First run since leaving Tim Easterby when below form fifth of 9 in handicap (16/1) at Newcastle (16.2f) 14 days ago. Back down in trip and claims if able to bounce back here off an attractive mark. Two 1m4f wins on Newcastle Tapeta; respectable C&D form too; can come on for yard debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (25/1 -108%) Vallamorey |
25/1(-108%) | (8) Vallamorey 25/1, First run since leaving Chris Fairhurst when 8/1, pulled up in novice hurdle at Catterick (15.7f, soft) on hurdles bow 25 days ago. Below par latest start in this sphere and she's probably worth taking on. Turf win at 1m2f last spring; not lived up to that since, including on Tapeta (1m4f). |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
SIMIYANN went close on his second start for Ian Williams when beaten a short-head at Wolverhampton over 2m. The drop back in trip is unlikely to be an issue and the son of Australia is capable of going one better. Caldwell has the ability to be competitive if putting his best foot forward after hanging badly in the aforementioned contest. Animato may benefit from a drop back in trip based on recent efforts.
Ready preference is for French-import SIMIYANN, who went very close on his second start on these shores at Wolverhampton and this lightly-raced 4-y-o probably has more to offer. Can Can Girl failed to fire on debut for his new yard at Newcastle but she will be a live danger if on-song, while Animato and Shake A Leg are others with claims.
The switches in distance and the new track are queries for SIMIYANN (nap) but he has less to do than at Wolverhampton last time out.

15/8(+46%) | (4) Kinturk Kalanisi 15/8, Twice-raced maiden. 15/2, third of 10 in novice hurdle at Cork (24f, heavy) 30 days ago. Might not be ridden so positively this time and will have a big say if coming home better. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
LUCKY LYREEN gets the nod in this maiden hurdle finale and ought to go very close on a reproduction of his latest second to O'Moore Park, who is a really promising novice hurdler representing Willie Mullins' yard. The six-year-old is edging closer to the target, seemingly improving between runs, and this could be the time to catch him. Kinturk Kalanisi boasts a similar profile following an improved display at Cork last time, while chances are also given to Bossofthebrownies and One Big Bang.
Bumper winner LUCKY LYREEN is starting to get the hang of things over hurdles now and this looks a good opportunity up in trip. Bossofthebrownies is feared most ahead of Kinturk Kalanisi.
There was lots to like about the run of BOSSOFTHEBROWNIES over C&D last time and he can make the required improvement

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Jeune Prince is a half-brother to a Goffs Land Rover bumper winner and he could get involved on his racecourse bow, while others to note include Red Cadillac and Rehill Relic. DANNO'S DOLLAR gets the nod, though, as he wasn't beaten too far at Ayr in November and is expected to have come on a bundle for that first start.
REDHILLL RELIC looks best of those with bumper experience, while Red Cadillac and Jeune Prince are two likely types among the newcomers.
Perhaps one of the newcomers will provide the answer, with JEUNE PRINCE and the filly Plantaroma respected most.

10/1(+50%) | (12) Sao Timothy 10/1, Modest gelding. 4/1, seventh of 8 in minor event at Kempton (11f) 5 days ago. Improvement needed. Wasn't beaten far when upped to 1m4f on Polytrack in October; lesser runs since. |

8th (2) (11/1 -57%) International Law |
11/1(-57%) | (2) International Law 11/1, Modest gelding. C&D winner. Fifteen runs since last win in 2022. Respectable sixth of 11 in minor event (18/1) at this C&D 18 days ago. Place possibilities. Seven Tapeta wins, the latest over C&D in late 2022; entitled to be competitive. |

9th (7) (40/1 -100%) Sugarpiehoneybunch |
40/1(-100%) | (7) Sugarpiehoneybunch 40/1, Modest mare. Eighth of 9 in handicap (150/1) at Newcastle (16.2f) 14 days ago. Back down in trip. Easy enough to look elsewhere. Won two 1m4f turf handicaps last April but has lost her way since; no headgear this time. |

10th (3) (33/1 -106%) King Athelstan |
33/1(-106%) | (3) King Athelstan 33/1, Modest gelding. C&D winner. Seventh of 11 in minor event at this C&D (33/1) 18 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Others make more appeal. C&D winner of similar race last March; only 4 runs since, well below best the last twice. |

11th (11) (33/1 -65%) My Boy Benji |
33/1(-65%) | (11) My Boy Benji 33/1, Modest gelding. Eighth of 9 in handicap (40/1) at Newcastle (12.4f) 20 days ago. Hood on 1st time. Needs a couple of these to falter. Well held in 3 AW handicaps from 1m-1m4f; now eligible for this grade; first-time headgear. |

12th (10) (40/1 -433%) Lightning Spark |
40/1(-433%) | (10) Lightning Spark 40/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Tenth of 11 in handicap at Chelmsford City (10f, 25/1). Off 137 days and back up in trip. Others have achieved more. Fair handicap debut over 1m4f at Wolverhampton; lesser run when last seen in September. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Lightning Spark's best run to date came over this distance at Wolverhampton on her penultimate start and the drop to this level gives her every chance of shedding the maiden tag. The vote, though, goes to VELVET VULCAN following her recent C&D second when improving for the application of both a tongue-tie and cheekpieces. Uther Pendragon and Miss Sligo complete the shortlist.
VELVET VULCAN encountered traffic problems at a crucial stage when runner-up over C&D recently and, with the cheekpieces and tongue strap he sported for the first time that day on again, the 5-y-o is taken to go one better with Billy Loughnane in the hot-seat. Miss Sligo's record on artificial surfaces is solid and she rates the main danger ahead of Socialist Agenda.
Uther Pendragon has solid claims but VELVET VULCAN came home quite nicely over C&D last time and is just preferrred.

1st (7) (9/4 +32%) Quercine |
9/4(+32%) | (7) Quercine 9/4, Twice-raced filly. Second of 9 in maiden (8/1) at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 45 days ago. Claims if the first-time cheekpieces help eke out further improvement. Ran fast for a long way on 2nd start, over 5f at Wolverhampton; entitled to show up well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (13/8 +7%) Cast No Shadow |
13/8(+7%) | (3) Cast No Shadow 13/8, Lightly-raced colt. Last of 8 in handicap at Kempton (6f, 16/1) 33 days ago. Poor though that effort was, he has every chance here judged on what he showed in novice events at Newcastle prior to that. Well held over 6f latest but good chance on earlier 5f runs on Newcastle Tapeta. |

3rd (4) (22/1 -144%) Exponential |
22/1(-144%) | (4) Exponential 22/1, Twice-raced filly. Seventh of 10 in maiden (40/1) at Newcastle (5f) 11 days ago. Another who will be of greater interest in handicaps later on. Signs of some ability over 5f at Newcastle; very likely to be more at home in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (10/1 -54%) Tees Harriet |
10/1(-54%) | (6) Tees Harriet 10/1, Once-raced filly. Sixth of 10 in maiden (40/1) at Newcastle (5f) on debut 11 days ago. That experience won't be wasted on her and she could take a step forward here. Bred to be speedy; 40-1 for 5f Newcastle debut but showed ability; can improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (22/1 -175%) Mariners Way |
22/1(-175%) | (5) Mariners Way 22/1, Twice-raced filly. 22/1, seventh of 10 in minor event at Newcastle (5f) 59 days ago. Place possibilites given hint of promise shown on debut in November. Just a hint of ability so far but sister Riversway did well for yard and 1-1 over C&D. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (150/1 -88%) Kipp Kelly |
150/1(-88%) | (1) Kipp Kelly 150/1, Once-raced gelding. 33/1, last of 9 in minor event at Wolverhampton (7.2f) on debut 16 days ago. Significantly down in trip and looks set for another struggle. Nicely bred but finished remote on 7f debut; best watched until handicapping. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (7/1 -155%) Sparklight |
7/1(-155%) | (8) Sparklight 7/1, Lightly-raced filly. Good fourth of 12 in maiden at Kempton (6f, 3/1) when last seen in September. Looks sure to pick up a race at some point and bold show on the cards. Thereabouts in all starts at sprint trips, including over C&D, but off since September. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (5/1 +85%) Big Blue Boy |
5/1(+85%) | (2) Big Blue Boy 5/1, Once-raced gelding. Last of 14 in minor event (16/1) at Doncaster (5f, good to firm) on debut. Off 8 months and he's probably more one for handicaps further down the line. Bred to sprint but over 17l behind the winner on 5f turf debut last May; off since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Sparklight and QUERCINE appear to be the two to concentrate on. The former was fairly consistent on all five of her starts last season, placing on three occasions, but the latter, who finished second at Wolverhampton in December, might just have the edge in terms of fitness. The application of cheekpieces might also yield some improvement. Cast No Shadow is rated 6lb superior to Sparklight, but he arrives with something to prove after a below-par effort in handicap company at Kempton.
It could be worth siding with TEES HARRIET, who is bred to be a useful sprinter and shaped well on her recent introduction at Newcastle. She will be more street-wise this time and may find the necessary improvement to lower the colours of the main form contenders, Cast No Shadow and Sparklight. Quercine also needs a second look.
The step up to 6f last time didn't go well for CAST NO SHADOW but he ought to have strong claims back over 5f on Tapeta.

10th (7) (18/1 -29%) Qaabil |
18/1(-29%) | (7) Qaabil 18/1, Modest gelding. One win from 33 Flat runs. 10/1, creditable fourth of 9 in minor event at Newcastle (7.1f) 11 days ago, running on. Ex-Irish; 0-19 on the AW but close fourth at Newcastle last time; place chance. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Twistaline won one of these classified events well over 1m here six days ago and another bold showing looks assured. However, she must concede weight away all round as a result and COPPER MOUNTAIN looks the one to be on. She also won in this company here last time and lining up in receipt of 5lb from Twistaline could prove key. Atrafan rates best of the rest.
COPPER MOUNTAIN returned to winning ways under Jo Mason in a similar event here recently and could be hard to beat back down in trip. Hawajes and Twistaline are also in the mix.
After an improved effort last time, HAWAJES is taken to get off the mark by beating Twistaline, Copper Mountain and Atrafan.

40/1(-233%) | (8) Hailey Ya Mal 40/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 66/1, fifth of 6 in minor event at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 21 days ago. Significantly back up in trip. Makes handicap debut and could do better now. One to note. Useful pedigree; there could be more to come from him now back at 7f on handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Tony Carroll has his string in good nick at the moment so another big performance from CITY CYCLONE seems likely. He is lightly raced on all-weather and won a shade cosily when switched back to the Flat at Wolverhampton 16 days ago, so a 4lb rise might not be enough to prevent him from recording a double. Beylerbeyi and Reputation are the dangers.
KING OF YORK deserves a change of luck and could be the way to go back in trip. Beylerbeyi is a big danger after a good second in a Newcastle handicap that has worked out. Wolverhampton-winner City Cyclone must be respected also.
This is very open but CITY CYCLONE seemed to relish the switch to Tapeta when winning at Wolverhampton and he may be able to follow up.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
A step up in distance over 1m6f unlocked enough improvement for CHURCHELLA to regain the winning thread at Chelmsford in December. This extended 2m trip looks sure to suit the four-year-old and she may be able to defy a 3lb rise in the ratings. Molly Mischief offered plenty of encouragement on her second-placed stable bow here last month and the Muhaarar filly likely has more to offer, while the downgraded Smart Champion cannot be ruled out either.
CHURCHELLA would have won pretty comfortably but for repeatedly hanging left up the straight at Chelmsford so is taken to defy a 3 lb rise. The lightly-raced Molly Mischief is next best ahead of Ney.
The unexposed MOLLY MISCHIEF, who was second here on her stable debut last month, is preferred to Ghadbbaan and Churchella.

The switch to more aggressive tactics was enough for ZEPHLYN to open his account at Newcastle a fortnight ago. The five-year-old made all in convincing fashion and looks more than capable of coping with a 5lb rise in the handicap. Eagle's Realm was four lengths behind the selection that day and he may put up most resistance, ahead of I'm Too Tired, who has been in good form over hurdles of late.
EAGLE'S REALM was too free when 4 lengths second to the well-ridden Zephlyn at Newcastle 2 weeks ago and is fancied to reverse the placings aided by a 5 lb swing, Young Endless is worth another chance to build on stable debut and looks best of the others.
This can go to recent hurdles winner I'M TOO TIRED who can improve markedly for this step up in trip.

SIBYL CHARM has turned a corner recently with the four-year-old shedding the maiden tag at Newcastle when last seen. The return to 6f isn't likely to cause any problems and she could prove a tough nut to crack. Dandys Derriere went close over C&D last month and is respected off a 2lb higher mark, while Boafo Boy and McCauley's Tavern are others likely to be in the mix.
SIBYL CHARM gained compensation for a luckless run at Wolverhampton when overcoming a pace bias at Newcastle 11 days ago and remains of strong interest. Boafo Boy should have justified strong support at Chelmsford last time so is the obvious threat, with the in-form Dandys Derriere best of the others.
Boafo Boy has finally found some form and is respected but SIBYL CHARM still has some potential at 6f when things go her way.

8th (1) (4/1 +20%) Heartrate |
4/1(+20%) | (1) Heartrate 4/1, Latest win at Ffos Las in September. Respectable third of 11 in handicap at Kempton (6f, 7/2) 26 days ago. Has good chance on best form. Both wins on turf; has hinted at winning potential on this surface and 6f seems his trip. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
DAYTONA LADY bids for a hat-trick having dead-heated at Chelmsford before winning by a narrow margin at Wolverhampton. The form of her latest success was franked by the runner-up, who runs in division one of this contest, and Ruth Carr's filly might still be ahead of the handicapper. Al Muqdad is likely to be competitive on his handicap bow following a couple of eye-catching displays in novice/maiden company. Others to consider are Blackjack and Secret Road.
AL MUQDAD has caught the eye on his last 2 starts so improvement can be expected now handicapping off what is potentially an attractive mark. Hat-trick seeking Daytona Lady is a likely threat, with Heartrate another to consider dropping to a 0-70.
He's had a few chances now but KITAAB is temptingly treated on his best form and dropping back to sprinting looks the right move.
Ths is the racecard key.
