1st (7) (10/3 +17%) Yellow Jacket |
10/3(+17%) | (7) Yellow Jacket 10/3, Maiden who ran well behind a subsequent winner over C&D in December but ran disappointingly when fifth of 6 in handicap chase at Market Rasen (17.2f) in January. Not out of things if he can shrug that off. Tongue tie applied. Needs to bounce back from a poor show at Market Rasen and now has tongue tied first time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (9/1 -13%) Malpas |
9/1(-13%) | (1) Malpas 9/1, A fair winner at 17f over hurdles in early 2022 who made a much better fist of things on second chase try (following wind op) when third on return at Carlisle (2m) in December. May have found stamina stretched back up at 20f at Leicester since and this is more suitable. Not so good yet over fences; has a lower chase mark too but others are more persuasive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (8/1 +43%) Happy Du Mesnil |
8/1(+43%) | (2) Happy Du Mesnil 8/1, Maiden hurdler who made mistakes and never figured on sole chase try in late 2022. Offered little back from 14 months off over hurdles at Southwell in January and only market support would make him of significant interest on return to chasing for new stable. Cheekpieces on. Out of form; headgear enlisted on this first run for new connections. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (12/1 +64%) Money For Jam |
12/1(+64%) | (9) Money For Jam 12/1, Made frame sole start in points but little worthwhile form under Rules. Has lost his form and is not proven on worse than good to soft. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (6) (4/1 +75%) Staar |
4/1(+75%) | (6) Staar 4/1, Placed both starts in points in 2018 and very lightly raced to date over hurdles, going backwards from return effort when seventh of 14 in handicap hurdle at Wincanton (15.2f) 47 days ago. Market may prove a good guide now sent chasing. Absent 356 days before this season, making two backward steps; now switches to fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (6/4 -20%) Thatza Dazzler |
6/4(-20%) | (5) Thatza Dazzler 6/4, Offered little before causing a surprise to open account over fences at Ludlow (2m, heavy) 7 days ago, settling better than previously and well served by coming off a strong gallop. Whether he can reproduce that form under a penalty is open to question, however. 20-1, comfortably won a ten-runner novice handicap at Ludlow (2m, soft) last Wednesday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (50/1 -525%) Broadford Publican |
50/1(-525%) | (3) Broadford Publican 50/1, Modest form in Ireland and hard to derive much encouragement from his 3 hurdle outings for present yard in recent months. Chase debut. Heavy defeats this winter on his first three British starts and now 0-9; makes chase debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Thatza Dazzler picked up the pieces in a strongly-run affair when opening his account at Ludlow last week. It remains to be seen whether the six-year-old can back that performance up, but he warrants consideration shouldering a 7lb penalty. David Brace's charge is likely to be priced accordingly, so it could be worth taking a chance on handicap/chase debutant SHADY B. The Saint Des Saints gelding boasts some fair form between the flags and his opening mark looks workable. Yellow Jacket also makes some appeal.
YELLOW JACKET needs to shrug off a lesser effort at Market Rasen but he'd previously ran well when chasing home a next-time-out winner over C&D and could be worth siding with to bounce back equipped with a first-time tongue strap. His stablemate Malpas and chase debutant Shady B head up the dangers in a trappy opener.
Last week's Ludlow winner THATZA DAZZLER should have a fine chance to follow up if he's in the same form.

1st (6) (7/4 +68%) Passing Kate |
7/4(+68%) | (6) Passing Kate 7/4, Still not too long with this yard and showed improved form to get off the mark at Leicester (15.5f, heavy) in November. Sound placed efforts both starts since, latterly in a race which has worked out particularly well, and she holds similar claims again back down in trip. Latest effort has been nicely franked and this drop back in trip looks another plus. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (2/1 -155%) Ezmerellda |
2/1(-155%) | (5) Ezmerellda 2/1, Fair maiden on the Flat and left hurdling debut behind when scoring with plenty in hand at Doncaster in December. Not disgraced in listed company there the following month and looks on fair mark now switched to a handicap for yard who had similar type run well last week. Promising form in juvenile hurdles this winter; interesting back down sharply in class. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (8/1 -14%) Sawpit Sienna |
8/1(-14%) | (3) Sawpit Sienna 8/1, Proved at least as good as ever when successful in 13-runner mares' handicap at Taunton (for second consecutive season) last month but was tailed off when taking a final-flight fall at Sedgefield 3 weeks ago. Others preferred. Runner-up off 2lb higher in this contest 12 months ago; well exposed, however. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (12/1 -20%) Miss Marette |
12/1(-20%) | (4) Miss Marette 12/1, Off the mark over hurdles at the thirteenth attempt when benefiting from an enterprising ride at Exeter in October. Proved that was no fluke when back to form and third over C&D (soft) 97 days ago and she's respected back from a breathing operation. Creditable third over C&D three months ago; goes well fresh; usual hood removed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (9/1 +78%) Gardons La |
9/1(+78%) | (7) Gardons La 9/1, Just a modicum of promise in 2 starts in France and has shown barely anything for current yard. Combination of drop in distance and Harry Cobden (up for first time) may help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (10/1 +29%) Caitlin's Court |
10/1(+29%) | (2) Caitlin's Court 10/1, Improved when getting off the mark over hurdles at Newton Abbot in May and ran at least as well when a close second there in October. Below form both starts since, though, and others are preferred. Best rules form at Newton Abbot over longer trips; something to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (16/1 -220%) Konigin Isabella |
16/1(-220%) | (1) Konigin Isabella 16/1, Failed to build on a mildly encouraging hurdling debut in subsequent outings in novice company but seemingly getting back on track when taking a late fall on her handicap bow when last seen just almost exactly a year ago. Yard in form and she's a player if ready to roll. Absent since falling two out (held a narrow lead at the time) in this race last year. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
PASSING KATE was unfortunate to bump into two subsequent winners when finishing third at Leicester last month. This drop in trip won't hamper her bid and the seven-year-old looks to have been found a suitable opportunity to regain the winning thread. Ezmerellda receives a handy 12lb weight-for-age allowance, although she will need to prove herself in the testing conditions. With that in mind, a bigger threat may emerge from Miss Marette, who has since undergone a wind procedure since finishing third over C&D in November.
EZMERELLDA looks on a fair mark switched to handicap company and can take advantage of her weight allowance to score for the second time over hurdles. Passing Kate has held her form well since joining Matt Sheppard and represents a strong-looking Leicester formline, so merits plenty of respect, with Konigin Isabella also respected after a year off.
Preference is for PASSING KATE, who looks a very solid option on recent form. Ezmerellda is feared most.

1st (2) (3/1 +0%) Montgomery |
3/1(+0%) | (2) Montgomery 3/1, Fontwell debut hurdles winner before very good fourth of 6 in novice hurdle at Wetherby (19.7f, good), Underperformed on final outing for Christian Williams 8 months ago but intriguing runner up in trip/switched to fences by new yard. Sent chasing over new trip and on different ground by his new yard, he's unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (2/1 +0%) Breeze Of Wind |
2/1(+0%) | (6) Breeze Of Wind 2/1, Has upped his form since switched to chasing, completing the hat-trick in comfortable fashion at Carlisle last time. Now tongue tied and looks open to further improvement, so obvious claims. The latest win was more workmanlike, but no shock were he to complete his four-timer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (5/1 +17%) King Of Brazil |
5/1(+17%) | (1) King Of Brazil 5/1, Fair hurdler/chaser who justified support despite going in snatches when landing a 6-runner handicap chase at Huntingdon 20 days ago. Step back up in trip should help and he's a definite player. Back from wind surgery with a strong-staying win at Huntingdon (2m4f, soft). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (6/1 +33%) Furkash |
6/1(+33%) | (7) Furkash 6/1, Not the best of jumpers on the whole and while he found just one too strong at Huntingdon (23.6f, soft) 34 days ago, record in this sphere stands at 0-15 and he's not the easiest to rely on. 0-15 over fences but often thereabouts, stays 3m and is competitively handicapped. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (12/1 -85%) Domandlouis |
12/1(-85%) | (5) Domandlouis 12/1, Never been the most consistent and he produced one of his poorer efforts when fourth of 5 in handicap chase (11/2) at Kelso (22.3f, heavy) 61 days ago. Capable from this mark if on a going day and new headgear tried, but others make greater appeal overall. 0-8 over fences but three 2nds last year at up to 3m; blinkers replace recent cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (16/1 -100%) Conquredalofeurope |
16/1(-100%) | (3) Conquredalofeurope 16/1, Fairly useful chaser at his best who capitalised on sliding mark in weak 4-runner affair at Catterick on New Year's Day. Underlined his inconsistency there last time and blinkers back on now. Won four-runner race at Catterick; recent return there was very lack-lustre, however. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (8/1 +0%) Dragonfruit |
8/1(+0%) | (4) Dragonfruit 8/1, Added to his good record fresh when striking on his 3m Uttoxeter reappearance in September but failed to back it up at Sedgefield. 111-day break since is a big positive, so may get back on track. Won two starts back; absent 111 days and his record after such a break gives some hope. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A 5lb rise in the ratings wasn't enough to prevent BREEZE OF WIND from completing a hat-trick at Carlisle earlier in the month. Stuart Coltherd's gelding looks more than capable of defying this 6lb higher mark and a four-timer could be on the cards. Stable/chase debutant Montgomery is a potential fly in the ointment now under the tutelage of Venetia Williams and any market support for the seven-year-old would be interesting, while first-time blinkers could spark Domandlouis' interest.
BREEZE OF WIND is firmly on the up and looks the obvious play in his bid for the four-timer. That said, King of Brazil had something to spare at Huntingdon last time and Montgomery is an intriguing runner for a new stable, so both could trouble the selection.
Breeze Of Wind is not opposed at all lightly and Montgomery is feared, but KING OF BRAZIL may well complete his double.

1st (6) (5/4 -71%) Tedley |
5/4(-71%) | (6) Tedley 5/4, Fairly useful maiden hurdler who comes here on the back of a good second of 8 in maiden at Ffos Las (20f, heavy) earlier this month. Back down in trip and there's every chance he can go one better. Seconds on heavy going at Ffos Las over 2m and 2m4f give him a huge shout. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (10/11 +34%) Goonhilly |
10/11(+34%) | (3) Goonhilly 10/11, Fairly useful form in a couple of bumpers and has shown similar form in this sphere, albeit his latest effort in a maiden at Taunton was sub-par (possibly found race coming too soon). Fancied to be firmly in the mix in what looks a decidedly weak event. Aintree 2nd (2m1f, heavy) is among the best form in this; disappointing at Taunton latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (33/1 -32%) Cocardier |
33/1(-32%) | (2) Cocardier 33/1, Well held in 2 bumpers and looks one for handicaps after this judged on hurdling exploits so far. Showed some promise but modest form, so he looks best watched for now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (50/1 +0%) Admiral Fitz |
50/1(+0%) | (1) Admiral Fitz 50/1, €23,000 3-y-o, £4,000 5-y-o, Mount Nelson gelding. Half-brother to 2 winners on Flat, including smart 6f/7f winner Edraak. Dam 7f winner who stayed 1¼m. Runner-up completed start in points (Apr 2023). Hooded for hurdles debut. Probably best watched judged on 2 points; £4,000 buy last May; hooded for this rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (12/1 -20%) Just Four Fame |
12/1(-20%) | (4) Just Four Fame 12/1, Fame And Glory gelding who went very much like a stayer when third of 10 in bumper at Aintree (17f, good) back in May 2022, finding the test inadequate. Absent since so watching brief advised on hurdles bow. Placed in two points and Aintree bumper in the spring of 2022; unraced on softer than good. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Representing the in-form Nigel Twiston-Davies yard, TEDLEY ran close to his best when runner-up at Ffos Las earlier this month. A breakthrough victory could be imminent for the five-year-old, particularly given that chief rival Goonhilly is on somewhat of a recovery mission. The Mount Nelson gelding posted a below-par fifth at Taunton in January and a 51-day break will need to get him back on track. Just Four Fame may fare best of the remaining protagonists.
A match on paper between TEDLEY and Goonhilly, with the former getting the vote arriving on the back of a good second at Ffos Las earlier in the month. Dan Skelton's charge would be a major threat if reproducing his Aintree effort, while Just Four Fame can fill out third making his hurdling debut returning from 21 months on the sidelines.
With Just Four Fame long absent and Cocardier probably one for later, this should be decided between Goonhilly and TEDLEY.

1st (9) (9/2 +47%) Stellar Stream |
9/2(+47%) | (9) Stellar Stream 9/2, Point/hurdles winner who is lightly raced over fences and has run with credit on two of his last three starts. Step up in trip and cheekpieces could bring more out of him given the way he shapes. New trip and headgear are given a go after his good third of 13 at Chepstow (3m, heavy). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (7/2 +13%) Duke Of Deception |
7/2(+13%) | (8) Duke Of Deception 7/2, Fair form when twice successful over fences at around 3m last season and resumed winning ways back from 5 months off over hurdles at Wetherby (3m) in October. Good second back over larger obstacles at Aintree on Boxing Day and player back down in class. This sort of trip is unknown territory and he has a bit more to prove on heavy going. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (12/1 -60%) Haute Estime |
12/1(-60%) | (3) Haute Estime 12/1, Kept on gamely when opening chase account in a mares' novice here last spring and was going well when falling 3 out in a Class 2 Perth handicap in September. Safely held all 3 starts since (undergone wind op since latest run), though, and needs to get back on track here in a first-time tongue strap. Long distance might suit; also now tongue tied first time, having had wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (8/1 -78%) Whydah Gally |
8/1(-78%) | (6) Whydah Gally 8/1, Unreliable type who doubled his tally for the season when grinding it out from the front at Lingfield 15 days ago. Hard to know if he'll be in the same form here, though. Made his breakthrough over fences when upped to 3m5f on soft at Lingfield 15 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (5/1 +17%) Notachance |
5/1(+17%) | (2) Notachance 5/1, Not quite the force of old but largely acquitted himself well last term and got back on track to some degree when fifth at Lingfield last time. Claims if he can build on that. Proven at 3m5f in the mud; needs to turn things around but way down the weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (10/3 +17%) Gold Emery |
10/3(+17%) | (7) Gold Emery 10/3, Point/hurdles winner who got better with each run over fences last season and all the better for return when just failing at Haydock two months ago. Needs considering. Rallied well when beaten a head at Haydock (3m1f, heavy) in December last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (10/1 +50%) Mario De Pail |
10/1(+50%) | (1) Mario De Pail 10/1, After 19 months off (left Sam Thomas), shaped as if as good as ever when making the frame in handicap chases first 2 starts this season but hasn't fired since. Unraced beyond 3m2f and peak efforts over shorter than that; 0-8 over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (11/1 -57%) In Rem |
11/1(-57%) | (5) In Rem 11/1, Not as consistent over fences as he was over hurdles and ran poorly at Exeter last time after a respectable return at Chepstow. Has had a break since. Failed to complete in both attempts at marathon trip; looked thorough stayer over shorter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (40/1 -21%) Domaine De L'isle |
40/1(-21%) | (4) Domaine De L'isle 40/1, Tumbled down the weights and finally took advantage when landing small-field marathon at Chepstow in March. That wasn't a particularly strong race, though, and he's been pulled up all 3 starts this season. Pulled up all three runs this term, latest the Welsh National; 3m7f win (soft) last March. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
WHYDAH GALLY relished the step up in trip when landing a first chase victory over 3m5f at Lingfield recently and the eight-year-old likely has more to offer over these marathon distances. A 6lb rise in the ratings and quick turnaround will give hope to his rivals and Gold Emery is feared most. Donald McCain's charge is a potential improver now faced with a stiffer test of stamina. Ali Star Bert and Duke Of Deception have the form to feature as well.
DUKE OF DECEPTION is arguably still on the up and the second he produced at Aintree last time came in a stronger race than this, so he takes preference over Ali Star Bert, who bids for his third win from four starts. Gold Emery is also worthy of consideration.
The vote goes to WHYDAH GALLY (nap) following his Lingfield win. Several respected rivals have their first crack at this sort of trip.

1st (6) (7/2 -17%) Pachacuti |
7/2(-17%) | (6) Pachacuti 7/2, Fair winning hurdler who has jumped much better in this sphere since fitted with headgear, placed again when second at Ffos Las last month. Should go well again. Placed in three of his four starts over fences and the form is solid; strong chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (5/4 +55%) Pedley Wood |
5/4(+55%) | (7) Pedley Wood 5/4, Point scorer who has improved for a wind op/fitting of cheekpieces over fences, landing handicaps at Hereford/Taunton at up to 3¼m this season. Well clear of the rest when second at Kempton 19 days ago and big shout with Freddie Gingell taking off 5 lb. Has form figures of 112 since switched to chasing; still open to further progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (18/1 -80%) Blade Runner |
18/1(-80%) | (1) Blade Runner 18/1, Prolific over fences, making it 5 wins from his first 6 starts in this sphere at Plumpton in November. However, subsequent runs suggest he has lost his way. Pulled up in Nationals the last twice; may rebound now dropped back in trip/grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (9/2 +31%) Island Run |
9/2(+31%) | (3) Island Run 9/2, Dual winner over hurdles who has taken well to the larger obstacles, though saw his good run of form coming to a halt at Newbury 5 weeks ago. Type to bounce back. Interesting on first chase attempt at Wincanton, having gained both hurdles wins here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (5/1 +0%) Great Name That |
5/1(+0%) | (5) Great Name That 5/1, Winner of sole start between the flags and has developed a solid record under Rules. However, needs to shrug off a below-par run at Chepstow 5 weeks ago (grossly flattered by his finishing position). Point winner who has largely consistent rules form; ran well over C&D two starts ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (20/1 -43%) Ballydisco |
20/1(-43%) | (4) Ballydisco 20/1, Dual winner over hurdles last season but yet to fire this term, including over fences. Change of headgear. Out of sorts this season; chance depends on how well he takes to new headgear. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
PACHACUTI posted another creditable effort in defeat when second at Ffos Las earlier this month. A 1lb rise in the ratings may not be enough to stop David Pipe's charge from going one place better in this contest, although fellow in-form rival Pedley Wood isn't taken lightly. The seven-year-old was thwarted in his hat-trick bid at Kempton recently, but that runner-up effort was more than respectable. The downgraded Blade Runner is also worth a second look given an upturn in his yard's form of late.
PEDLEY WOOD has taken well to fences this term and can quickly resume winning ways with Freddie Gingell taking off a valuable 5 lb. Pachacuti should go well again and is the danger.
With his chase form having substance, PACHACUTI gets the vote. Pedley Wood is second choice.

1st (6) (3/1 -71%) Strong Belle |
3/1(-71%) | (6) Strong Belle 3/1, Didn't kick on in bumpers but matched previous hurdles best when filling runners-up spot at Wetherby (2m) 25 days ago, bumping into an above-average sort off the Flat. Expected to play a lead role here. Better on last two starts (about 2m on soft) and brings clearly the best hurdles form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (8/15 +58%) Pitwood Road |
8/15(+58%) | (5) Pitwood Road 8/15, Winner of sole start between the flags and improved on previous bumper efforts (in first-time blinkers) when landing 6-runner contest at Ayr (2m) in good style 2 weeks ago. Makes appeal now hurdling with Brian Hughes again booked. Point win and best bumper performances make this Irish challenger one to note. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (16/1 -100%) Yougoglencoko |
16/1(-100%) | (8) Yougoglencoko 16/1, Displayed a good turn of foot when making a winning debut in a Kelso bumper in September and ran to a similar level when sixth under a penalty at Newcastle last month. Makes hurdles debut and may emerge best of the McCain pair. Graduates from bumpers with improvement needed but her dam was a fairly useful jumper. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (50/1 +50%) Bob O Rhino |
50/1(+50%) | (2) Bob O Rhino 50/1, Winning Irish pointer but well held in bumper/completed starts over hurdles. Low-level form under rules and hasn't looked straightforward; set up a big lead last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (150/1 -355%) Wrappedinrubies |
150/1(-355%) | (7) Wrappedinrubies 150/1, Runner-up on second of 2 starts in Irish points (Dec 10). Little immediate encouragement when well beaten on Rules/bumper debut at Wetherby (2m) last month. Likely to need time and distance (bred to stay well). Short-headed in December in Irish point (heavy); remote at 20-1 in Wetherby bumper (soft). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (10/1 +38%) Ma Belle Artiste |
10/1(+38%) | (9) Ma Belle Artiste 10/1, Useful 1m winner on Flat for Joseph O'Brien. Changed hands for 45,000 gns in October and possible she needed the run after 5 months off when fifth of 14 in juvenile maiden at Hereford (16.2f, soft) 2 weeks ago. In receipt of weight all round and this should reveal more. Useful on Flat; hurdle debut form two weeks ago suggests she is probably best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (16/1 -14%) Miss Maverick |
16/1(-14%) | (4) Miss Maverick 16/1, Failed to beat a rival home on her introduction at Uttoxeter (15.8f) but she showed more spark under a more positive ride when second in a 4-runner bumper over the same C&D 11 months ago. Makes hurdle debut. Seemed to improve when front-running second of four in Uttoxeter bumper (soft) last April. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (12/1 -85%) Jackeline |
12/1(-85%) | (3) Jackeline 12/1, Well beaten in 2 bumpers but more like it following switch to hurdling, fourth at Lingfield in December and in process of running well when falling 3 out at Exeter (16.7f) 4 weeks ago. Possible she could have more to offer. Carries head high but one of the top contenders in this field judged on her last two races. |

|PU| (1) (150/1 -500%) Big Ange |
150/1(-500%) | (1) Big Ange 150/1, Telescope mare. Dam moody 19f-3¾m hurdle/chase winner. 7/1, well beaten seventh of 9 in bumper at Ludlow (15.8f, heavy) on NH debut 54 days ago. Makes hurdles debut. 7-1 for bumper at Ludlow (2m, soft) but tailed off; surely the stable second string. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Point-to-point winner PITWOOD ROAD clearly benefitted from the application of blinkers (retained) when scoring comfortably in an Ayr bumper earlier this month, and she may have too much for her rivals now tackling hurdles. The unexposed Miss Maverick finished second behind a useful mare in a Uttoxeter bumper last April and she can make her presence felt, while Strong Belle is one of the likely pace angles and could hit the frame.
PITWOOD ROAD built on the promise of her bumper debut effort when scoring in good style at Ayr 15 days ago and, very much the type to make her mark over hurdles, she's fancied to make a bold bid again partnered by Brian Hughes. Strong Belle, who chased home an above-average sort off the Flat at Wetherby latest, is also firmly in the mix.
Strong Belle brings the best hurdles form and Jackeline has ability but the vote goes to Irish challenger PITWOOD ROAD.

1st (3) (6/4 -36%) Tune In A Box |
6/4(-36%) | (3) Tune In A Box 6/4, Much improved since sent handicapping up in trip, scoring at Newcastle (23.7f) and at Wetherby (24.1f). Failed only narrowly in his bid for a hat-trick bid under a penalty at Ffos Las and remains unexposed. Narrowly denied hat-trick at Ffos Las; up another 3lb but could still have more to offer. |

2nd (1) (10/3 -21%) Haas Boy |
10/3(-21%) | (1) Haas Boy 10/3, Has slipped in the weights and bounced back to form when third of 15 in handicap hurdle at Huntingdon (20.7f, soft, 7/1) 34 days ago, finishing well despite a couple of late mistakes. Must enter calculations. Good third of 15 at Huntingdon last month; back up just 1lb today and he's a contender. |

3rd (5) (11/2 -10%) Defi Nonantais |
11/2(-10%) | (5) Defi Nonantais 11/2, Finished third on his sole outing in Irish points and has shown steady improvement in 3 novice hurdles. Opening mark could have been kinder but further improvement possible. Shapes as though the test of stamina on soft will suit; considered on handicap debut. |

4th (6) (12/1 +40%) Bellamy's Grey |
12/1(+40%) | (6) Bellamy's Grey 12/1, Unreliable veteran who produced one of his better efforts when second in 11-runner handicap at this course (19.8f, soft) 27 days ago, typically racing lazily. No banker to be in the same form. Fair 2nd here four weeks ago but this inconsistent 12yo is 6lb out of the handicap today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (5/1 +29%) Rocco Royale |
5/1(+29%) | (2) Rocco Royale 5/1, Progressed further when landing a 6-runner novice at Fontwell (19.2f, good to soft) in April. There's nothing wrong with that form but he ran no sort of race sent handicapping at Lingfield 8 months later. Still early days and 10-lb conditional takes over in the saddle. Tailed off on sole run this season but this lightly raced 6yo retains potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (8/1 +20%) Captain Boudet |
8/1(+20%) | (4) Captain Boudet 8/1, Third on completed start in Irish points and promise when reaching the frame in a pair of 19.5f Chepstow maiden hurdles in the autumn. Unsuited by the way the race developed switched to a handicap at Sandown last month and retains potential in first-time cheekpieces. Better could have been expected on h'cap debut but this unexposed 5yo is not written off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (150/1 +0%) Crookbarrow |
150/1(+0%) | (7) Crookbarrow 150/1, Has shown precious little to date so easily passed over from 10 lb out of the weights. Would be a surprise winner today from 10lb out of the handicap. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
TUNE IN A BOX has improved beyond all recognition after being pitched into handicap company this season and on the back of an admirable second on his most recent start, he gets the nod to come home in front nudged up 3lb. Defi Nonantais makes his handicap debut for the in-form Joe Tizzard team and cannot be discounted, while Haas Boy completes the shortlist following his third in a similar contest at Huntingdon last month.
TUNE IN A BOX has done nothing but improve since sent handicapping and, having been edged out only by a well-treated veteran on his most recent outing, he remains of strong interest. Haas Boy bounced back to form when third at Huntingdon last month and is sure to be on the premises with a repeat, while Defi Nonantais could take another step forward on his handicap debut.
The 5yo TUNE IN A BOX has thrived in handicaps and is taken to return to winning ways. Handicap newcomer Defi Nonantais is a danger

1st (5) (9/2 +18%) Mr Bramley |
9/2(+18%) | (5) Mr Bramley 9/2, Progressive in bumpers, just denied after a year off at Wetherby 25 days ago. Interesting hurdle debutant. Year off between his two 2nds in Wetherby bumpers, so nearly getting back up last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (4/7 +31%) Guard The Moon |
4/7(+31%) | (3) Guard The Moon 4/7, Half-brother to useful hurdler/smart chaser Potterman. Back-to-back wins in bumpers at Bangor in December and made decent start over hurdles when third in Chepstow novice 5 weeks ago, not knocked about. Will improve and looks the one to beat. Won two small-field bumpers here; 3rd in Chepstow maiden hurdle (2m3f) sets good standard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (3/1 +14%) Panhandle Slim |
3/1(+14%) | (2) Panhandle Slim 3/1, Hit the frame in a couple of above-average bumpers and confirmed the promise of his hurdling debut when winning 8-runner novice at Sedgefield (19.8f, soft) 64 days ago, suited by increase in trip. Handy 7-lb conditional takes over in the saddle so respected under a penalty. Won when upped to 2m4f at Sedgefield (good to soft) latest; needs further improvement. |

4th (8) (100/1 -100%) Scrumpy |

5th (6) (125/1 -89%) Over Milk Wood |
125/1(-89%) | (6) Over Milk Wood 125/1, Well held in bumpers and modest form over hurdles in Ireland. Off over 2 years. First run for yard after leaving Olivia Hegarty. One piece of fair form in Ireland in 2021; absent 907 days and surely best watched. |

|PU| (1) (17/2 -155%) Absolute Steel |
17/2(-155%) | (1) Absolute Steel 17/2, Hadn't shown much on his first couple of starts but has plenty of stamina in his pedigree and stepped up to defy massive odds in 8-runner novice hurdle at Exeter (18.5f, heavy) 17 days ago, still green. More needed again under a 10 lb penalty but not yet the finished article. 200-1 for a novice hurdle at Exeter (2m2f, heavy) 17 days ago but he made most to win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (250/1 -150%) Legostar |
250/1(-150%) | (4) Legostar 250/1, Winning pointer but has shown little promise under Rules. 1-9 in British points; 300-1 and 200-1 when showing little in two hurdle races. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (300/1 -200%) Pearly King |
300/1(-200%) | (7) Pearly King 300/1, Well held in bumper and maiden/novice hurdle. Big prices, behind in his bumper and two hurdle races. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
ABSOLUTE STEEL scored at huge odds over an extended 2m2f at Exeter earlier this month, keeping on gamely to the line, and, easing slightly in grade, he gets the nod to come home in front once more and prove that performance to be no fluke. Fellow last-time-out winner Panhandle Slim shouldn't be overlooked lightly, while Mr Bramley gave the impression that he was still very much a work in progress when finishing a close second in a Wetherby bumper latest.
Dual course bumper winner GUARD THE MOON showed plenty of aptitude for hurdling when third at Chepstow and looks the one to beat. Mr Bramley was progressive in bumpers so may emerge as the biggest threat with Panhandle Slim and Absolute Steel both shouldering penalties.
Absolute Steel, Panhandle Slim and Mr Bramley are respected but look up against it faced by GUARD THE MOON.

1st (1) (9/4 +0%) Moytier |
9/4(+0%) | (1) Moytier 9/4, Yet to get his head in front but was going great guns when departing at the fourth last over C&D last month. Decent fourth at Exeter since (5½ lengths behind Flash Gorcombe, 3 lb better off now) and should be in the mix again back down in class. 0-12 but there have been encouraging signs and yard is in good form; might not be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (11/4 -57%) Flash Gorcombe |
11/4(-57%) | (2) Flash Gorcombe 11/4, Back-to-back winner last spring and looked better than ever when routing the opposition over C&D last month. Good third at Exeter since and remains of strong interest back down in class. Two-time course winner who has scored on heavy ground and is a strong contender today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (11/2 +0%) Royal Sam |
11/2(+0%) | (3) Royal Sam 11/2, Point winner who showed promise over hurdles last term for Milton Harris. Off 8 months before posting an encouraging fifth of 7 in handicap chase at Exeter (19.2f, heavy) on debut over fences 58 days ago. Open to significant improvement back down in class. Ran well for a long way on last month's chase debut and he may be able to build on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (11/1 -47%) Poet's Reflection |
11/1(-47%) | (5) Poet's Reflection 11/1, Sole success from 23 starts overall came in a handicap hurdle at Taunton back in March 2021. However, she was placed twice off higher marks than this over fences last spring and she stepped up on her reappearance spin over hurdles when fourth at Taunton 3 weeks ago. Taunton last time was a step back in the right direction; not discounted off a handy mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (5/1 +58%) Belgarum |
5/1(+58%) | (4) Belgarum 5/1, On a good mark judged on peak form over hurdles but he again struggled in this sphere when pulled up at Exeter last month. On a reduced mark but unable to get competitive over fences this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (12/1 -60%) Sevenofus |
12/1(-60%) | (6) Sevenofus 12/1, Point winner who was placed in a series of handicap hurdles at around 2½m in 2022 and all the better for belated return when runner-up at Taunton on chase bow 3 weeks ago under this rider. Entitled to come on again and not taken lightly. Promise in her chase debut second at Taunton three weeks ago; open to improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (18/1 +45%) Noah's Light |
18/1(+45%) | (8) Noah's Light 18/1, Hasn't shown much in 8 runs in this sphere so easy to look elsewhere. It's a long time since he's been competitive; needs to improve upon recent showings. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (33/1 -65%) Mr Sociable |
33/1(-65%) | (7) Mr Sociable 33/1, Well held in 3 outings back from a long absence last winter and no encouragement this term. Headgear on for chase debut. Has shown very little over hurdles this term; makes chase debut in first-time cheekpieces. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
MOYTIER finished a creditable fourth in a higher grade at Exeter last time out and he can make a bold bid for the gold medal under Harry Cobden. Flash Gorcombe has been running consistently well this season and he heads the dangers, despite finding himself on a career-high mark and appearing to hold no secrets from the handicapper. Sevenofus also warrants respect on the back of her second over 2m2f at Taunton earlier this month.
It could be worth chancing ROYAL SAM, who showed an aptitude for chasing until the rise in class and possibly lack of fitness told on return/yard debut at Exeter. Flash Gorcombe and Moytier are closely matched on their latest run at Exeter and they head the dangers.
Having won easily over C&D two starts ago, FLASH GORCOMBE (nap) was a good third at Exeter most recently and earns the vote.

1st (3) (9/2 +50%) Gwennie May Boy |
9/2(+50%) | (3) Gwennie May Boy 9/2, Fair hurdler who took a step firmly back in the right direction when making all in convincing fashion at Ludlow last spring. Pulled up at Warwick (21f) in September and now returns from another absence for new stable. Market should guide with yard also saddling Catch Him Derry. Won twice for Jonjo O'Neill but left him after showing little at Warwick in September. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (11/8 +8%) Catch Him Derry |
11/8(+8%) | (6) Catch Him Derry 11/8, Definite signs of ability in pair of course novice events during second half of last year and justified good support to make a successful handicap debut at Southwell (24.2f) 6 weeks ago, pulling clear with a next-time-out winner. Expected to be bang there up 6 lb. Up 6lb after Southwell handicap debut win (3m) but it's easy to envisage further progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (33/1 -230%) Phil De Pail |
33/1(-230%) | (4) Phil De Pail 33/1, Fair bumper performer and similar form on 4 of his 5 starts over hurdles without tasting success during 2021/22 season. Lengthy absence to overcome (also had wind op) and another for whom the betting may help point the way. 3m second; had wind surgery in July 2022; absent for 683 days and market can guide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (5/2 -25%) Globe Player |
5/2(-25%) | (2) Globe Player 5/2, Fair form when placed in pair of maiden hurdles late last year and left handicap debut effort in his wake (in first-time cheekpieces) when readily opening his account at Southwell (3m) 26 days ago, well served by longest trip he's tackled. Of firm interest again from 8 lb higher mark. Coasted home 16l in front at Southwell (3m, good to soft) early this month; up 8lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (14/1 +50%) Iontach Cheval |
14/1(+50%) | (5) Iontach Cheval 14/1, Bumper/hurdle winner who recorded a career best when making a successful reappearance in handicap company at Warwick (2m, soft) in November 2022. Respectable third on his Sandown reappearance but disappointing both starts since. Others preferred. Below-form third on return from an absence and has shown little in his two starts since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (6/1 -50%) Big Fish |
6/1(-50%) | (1) Big Fish 6/1, Promise in bumpers and returned from a lengthy absence with a professional performance to make a winning hurdling debut at Exeter (18.5f) in October. Not built on that in 2 subsequent starts but faced a stiff task tackling Grade 2 company latterly. This rates more suitable. 5l maiden win at Exeter (2m2f); not so good next time (soft); tailed off in Grade 2 latest. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
GLOBE PLAYER represents a trainer firmly on the hot list and, on the back of an impressive win on his most recent start over 3m at Southwell, he can make a bold bid to go in again having been upped 8lb. Catch Him Derry got off the mark in workmanlike fashion on his handicap debut over an extended 3m at Southwell last month, but a 6lb rise will make life tougher, while Phil De Pail was in good form when last seen over 600 days ago and the market should tell us more on his return.
CATCH HIM DERRY and Globe Player both arrive on the back of victories and may well be the pair to focus on, the former, who pulled clear with a next-time-out winner, edging the vote. Big Fish will find this less taxing than his latest assignment and may do best of the others.
Calculations appear to be dominated by the last-time-out Southwell handicap scorers GLOBE PLAYER and Catch Him Derry.

1st (1) (10/1 -82%) Espoir De Guye |
10/1(-82%) | (1) Espoir De Guye 10/1, Useful chaser at his best but ran poorly on final outing for Paul Nicholls and, back from 10 months off, again fell well short of his best when only third in a hunter at Warwick last month. Ability still makes him of interest in a race like this. Not the force of old but he may have needed his hunter chase debut; possible contender. |

2nd (2) (10/11 -107%) Famous Clermont |
10/11(-107%) | (2) Famous Clermont 10/11, Multiple point winner and useful form in hunter chases, landing the Foxhunters' at Aintree in good style when last seen under Rules. Scored unchallenged in a point since and will obviously take all the beating. Won Aintree Foxhunters' last April and holds leading claims now back under rules. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (5/4 +69%) Lieutenant Rocco |
5/4(+69%) | (3) Lieutenant Rocco 5/4, Useful on his day and returned to form to some degree when second in a hunter at Taunton last time. Hard to rely on but obvious claims if he's in the mood. Runner-up at Taunton last week and can make another bold bid if this doesn't come too soon. |

4th (4) (125/1 -279%) Funky Sensation |
125/1(-279%) | (4) Funky Sensation 125/1, Rules record is rather uninspiring and was pulled up between the flags last time. Up against it. Fair fifth at Cheltenham last May but below par since in three point-to-points. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (16/1 -14%) Walkin Out |
16/1(-14%) | (7) Walkin Out 16/1, Multiple point winner (second recently) who won a hunter at Cartmel last May but returned to this sphere with a tame display at Taunton 51 days ago. Has something to find. Needs some of these to underperform if she's to win, but that's not out of the question. |

125/1(-150%) | (5) Game Of War 125/1, Fairly useful at best for Henry de Bromhead but hard to fancy on recent efforts, including back under Rules in a hunter at Kelso, while he's also been held in a point since. Tongue tied. Talented in his heyday but this 12yo is hard to fancy on more recent evidence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (200/1 -203%) Tekap |
200/1(-203%) | (6) Tekap 200/1, Pulled up in a Cheltenham hunter when last seen under Rules and hasn't fared any better between the flags the last twice, so hard to make any sort of case for. Runner-up in a point last April but this 11yo has been pulled up on his three starts since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
FAMOUS CLERMONT marked himself down as one of the leading hunter chasers when scoring comfortably over the National fences at Aintree last year. Fresh from an impressive victory in a Larkhill point-to-point in January, victory here would qualify him once again for the major spring events. Lieutenant Rocco commands respect after his second at Taunton last week, while Walkin Out is capable of getting involved in a race of this nature.
FAMOUS CLERMONT took a big prize at the Aintree Festival last season and is fully expected to make a successful return to Rules. Espoir de Guye and Lieutenant Rocco both have the quality to trouble the selection but neither are as reliable.
Last year's Aintree Foxhunters' winner FAMOUS CLERMONT is the selection ahead of recent Taunton runner-up Lieutenant Rocco.

Mutasawi would appear to set the standard with a rating of 72 and David O'Meara's gelding is entitled to step forward from his most recent third at Chelmsford earlier in the month. However, the vote goes to SOLDIERS DESIGN, who improved from her debut to finish second at Dundalk last time and she makes plenty of appeal on her UK bow. Red Troop completes the shortlist with the likelihood of more to offer.
SOLDIERS DESIGN took a step forward when second at Dundalk last time and her pedigree points to ongoing progress, so she should be able to open her account in a weak race debuting for a new yard. Mutasawi is the obvious danger on form but he's more exposed.
Ex-Irish SOLDIERS DESIGN holds leading claims in this ordinary maiden. Mutasawi is the biggest danger on form.

11/2(-47%) | (6) Lady In Havana 11/2, Latest win at Southwell in January. 11/4, creditable third of 6 in handicap at Chelmsford City (7f) 19 days ago. In top form and another bold showing is on the cards. Steadily progressing for this yard and 7f on Polytrack was no problem latest; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (8/1 +27%) Irrelevant |
8/1(+27%) | (8) Irrelevant 8/1, C&D winner. Latest win here in October. Eighth of 9 in handicap at Lingfield (7f, AW, 14/1) 23 days ago, hampered and unlucky not to finish closer. Worthy of interest if the market speaks in his favour. Two course wins for Richard Hughes; promise for new yard; F Marsh an interesting booking. |

10th (9) (25/1 -257%) Rhasidat |
25/1(-257%) | (9) Rhasidat 25/1, C&D winner. Latest win here in January. 15/2, creditable third of 6 in handicap at Chelmsford City (7f) 13 days ago, having run of race. Not dismissed. C&D winner on stable debut; back at that level at Chelmsford latest; one to consider. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
JUST RITA showed a fair amount of promise on her first couple of starts before disappointing on her final juvenile outing when only beating a sole rival home. That said, she is clearly best judged on her second at Chelmsford the time before and an opening mark of 65 may underestimate her ability. Silver Trumpet ran well on his handicap bow when fourth at Lingfield and has to enter calculations, while Lady In Havana and Rhasidat are others with viable claims.
SILVER TRUMPET is still unexposed and finished to good effect after a slow start last time, so he's worth siding with in an open-looking race. Lady In Havana is in good order and should be thereabouts, while Just Rita has the scope to do better now switched to handicaps.
Just Rita and SILVER TRUMPET are open to further progress and the latter should be sharper with his recent return behind him.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
CREATIVE STORY is likely to command plenty of attention being a three-parts brother to the National Stakes winner Quorto and it would be no surprise if Charlie Appleby's colt proved to be a smart recruit. Condor Pasa is expected to have come forward from his first start when third over C&D, having fared best of the newcomers, while the form of Suspicion's debut effort appears to be promising with the first and fourth from that contest both winning since.
CONDOR PASA shaped like a decent prospect when third over C&D on debut 7 weeks ago and shades the vote over Suspicion, who caught the eye in a C&D maiden that has been working out well. Creative Story is closely related to connections' very smart but ill-fated 2-y-o Quorto so looks the pick of the newcomers.
Very interesting newcomer CREATIVE STORY has impressive credentials. Condor Pasa and Suspicion bring the best form.

9/1(-80%) | (7) Gavi Di Gavi 9/1, Course winner. 10/1, very good length second of 7 to Lady of Arabia in handicap at this C&D 28 days ago, needing stronger gallop. Player. Chased home Lady Of Arabia here four weeks ago; strong pace would suit; others appeal more. |

Poor on last Flat run. Struggled in handicap hurdles after springing a shock in a Newton Abbot novice; opposable. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
LADY OF ARABIA arrives here on the back of two C&D victories and a 4lb rise for the most recent of those wins may not be enough to stop her from making it a hat-trick. Gavi Di Gavi chased home the selection last time and is an obvious threat off 3lb better terms, while Arctician and Hieronymus are others who make the shortlist.
UMBERTO was an excellent close third off this mark over C&D on his final 3-y-o start and the booking of Oisin Murphy suggests he's ready to go after 6 months off. Lady of Arabia made it 3 wins from 4 starts around here when beating Gavi di Gavi 4 weeks ago and is the obvious threat.
Umberto can progress again this year but LONGLAI has a good record fresh and this might be the time to catch him.

2nd (3) (4/1 +33%) Kraken Diamond |
4/1(+33%) | (3) Kraken Diamond 4/1, Modest gelding. 12/1, first run since leaving John McConnell when eighth of 9 in handicap at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 40 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time and step back up in trip will suit, so worth a market check. Ex-Irish maiden; possible improver dropped to this level on second run for new yard. |

3rd (8) (6/1 -20%) Rainbow Sign |
6/1(-20%) | (8) Rainbow Sign 6/1, Modest gelding. 22/1(-38%) | (2) He's Our Star 22/1, Poor gelding. Tongue strap on for 1st time, eleventh of 12 in handicap (66/1) at this C&D 21 days ago. Blinkers back on. Hard to make a solid case for. Only 1-39 on AW and doesn't look the percentage call. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
THOUGHTFUL GIFT won a similar event over a mile at Lingfield nine days ago and she clearly sets the standard on that evidence, despite having to carry a 5lb penalty. Rainbow Sign was second on that occasion and could fill the runner-up position once again, while Profitar Rules edges out Portraitist and Kumari Star to be the pick of the remainder.
THOUGHTFUL GIFT is going the right way and had plenty to spare when beating Rainbow Sign at Lingfield last time, so she should be able to uphold the form with that rival. Kraken Diamond shaped better than the result last time, so he's worth monitoring in the betting on just his second start for his current stable.
The strongest contender on current form is THOUGHTFUL GIFT. Second choice is Kraken Diamond.

2nd (7) (11/10 +67%) Holbache |
11/10(+67%) | (7) Holbache 11/10, C&D winner. Tongue strap on for 1st time, 2½ lengths third of 11 to Man On A Mission in handicap (12/1) at this C&D 10 days ago. C&D record reads 113; behind Man On A Mission on latest run but it was more promising. |

3rd (2) (9/2 +0%) Mccauley's Tavern |
9/2(+0%) | (2) Mccauley's Tavern 9/2, C&D winner. Winner here in January. Seventh of 9 in handicap (20/1) at Southwell (6.1f) 23 days ago. Has a bit to prove at present. C&D winner in Class 5 in January; less good since but capable and Oisin Murphy booked. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (3/1 -25%) Man On A Mission |
3/1(-25%) | (4) Man On A Mission 3/1, Won 11-runner handicap at this C&D (8/1) 10 days ago, keeping on well. Had plenty in hand last time and remains feasibly treated under a penalty. Tidy win over C&D ten days ago; still feasibly treated under a penalty; should go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (125/1 -150%) Vaudevillian |
125/1(-150%) | (8) Vaudevillian 125/1, Eighth of 9 in handicap (66/1) at this course (5f) 42 days ago. Cheekpieces on for 1st time. Hard to fancy. Poor form for new yard this winter; now tried in cheekpieces. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
MAN ON A MISSION benefited from stepping back up a furlong in trip when scoring here in comfortable fashion 10 days ago and a 5lb penalty for that display is unlikely to stop him from proving too strong for this opposition. Holbache was third to the selection on that occasion and is capable of being in the mix, while Alafdhal is worth another chance having been unable to get a clear run at Wolverhampton last time.
MAN ON A MISSION bounced back to score with something in hand over C&D last time and he's likely to put up a bold showing in the follow-up bid. Supreme King has shaped better than the bare result the last twice and deserves consideration, while the well-treated Alafdhal should bounce back from an excusable run.
Man On A Mission can go well but the pace set-up of today's race may allow HOLBACHE to turn the tables.

28/1(+7%) | (7) Total Lockdown 28/1, Unreliable type. One win from 21 Flat runs. 33/1, fourth of 7 in handicap at this C&D 14 days ago, not running on. Blinkers on 1st time. Others more persuasive. 0-11 for current yard but latest effort suggests the new headgear may help. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
TORTURED SOUL has clearly thrived since joining Tony Carroll, winning three of his four starts, and the four-year-old doesn't appear to have reached his ceiling yet. A winner at Southwell on his latest start, he is expected to handle a 4lb rise from the handicapper to continue his progression. Fravanco returned to form when second at Lingfield in December and is respected, while a drop back in trip is likely to benefit Capricorn Prince.
TORTURED SOUL has proven most progressive since joining Tony Carroll, making it 3 wins from 4 starts at Southwell 13 days ago and his latest rise shouldn't prevent him going very well again in a race lacking depth. Fravanco could emerge as the lead danger ahead of Where's Tom.
Improving TORTURED SOUL (nap) is taken to defy another rise in the weights. Devizes is second choice.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
