4/1(+56%)
(6) San Pedro 4/1, Struck twice over this C&D last term, including a wide-margin success under Freddie Gordon in this corresponding race. Below par so far this season but he's edging back down the weights and will be a danger to all if able to bounce back.
Out of form this season but won this last year and not written off now back here.

Malago Rose

6.5
13/2(+19%)
(5) Malago Rose 13/2, Beaten a fair way on return/debut for new yard at Ludlow in November, but produced a career-best next time out when taking a 7-runner Fakenham handicap (23.4f, soft) on New Year's Day. However, failed to back that up over the same C&D since and she's probably worth taking on.
Easy win at Fakenham on New Year's Day; underwhelming 4th there since but may bounce back.

3rd (2) Lumi Plugin (6/4 +40%)
Lumi Plugin

6/4(+40%)
(2) Lumi Plugin 6/4, ):Runner-up both starts in maiden hurdles and stepped up appreciably on his comeback run at Wincanton when finishing a neck second of 10 in handicap at Leicester (15.5f, heavy) last month. This stiffer test promises to suit him down to the ground and he's on to be interested in.
Ran well over 1m7f last time; much longer trip today but reasons to be optimistic.

Vendant

6/1(-118%)
(7) Vendant 6/1, Placed in points and left previous form in this sphere a long way behind when a fine second upped to 21.8f at Fontwell (soft) recently. This further step up in trip looks a good move and he's a must for the shortlist.
Galloped on gamely when going close over extended 2m5f at Fontwell; this trip could suit.
4
5th (4) Pure Theatre (8/1 +33%)
Pure Theatre

8
8/1(+33%)
(4) Pure Theatre 8/1, Tasted success twice in mares' hurdles in spring 2023 but has been more miss than hit since. That said, the handicapper continues to show mercy and, as a 7-y-o with 15 runs under her belt overall, time is certainly still on her side.
Continues to edge down the weights but she needs to get back on track.
1
6th (1) Grove Road (15/2 -88%)
Grove Road

7.5
15/2(-88%)
(1) Grove Road 15/2, Opened account for this yard in a first-time visor at Newton Abbot last July and followed up back from a break at Huntingdon in November. Not disgraced on desperate ground in a Fontwell marathon recently and drop back in trip/better ground here will equate to a more suitable test.
Won two in a row last July/November; didn't see out 3m3f on heavy last time; respected.

13:45 Plumpton Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 25f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A 6lb rise was enough to thwart Malago Rose in her bid to record a double at Fakenham 22 days ago, although she could feature if brushing up her jumping. Regardless, the stoutly-bred LUMI PLUGIN looks just the type to improve for this marked step up in distance and the Kayf Tara gelding is fancied to build on his latest second at Leicester. The lightly-raced Vendant arrives on the back of a runner-up effort at Fontwell and is feared most.

LUMI PLUGIN and Vendant are both appealing now faced with a stiffer test. Marginal preference is for the former, who appears to be on a good mark having been raised just 2 lb for his close call at Leicester. Pure Theatre and last year's winner San Pedro are both dangerous to discount off reduced marks, while top-weight Grove Road should also make his presence felt.

Stamina looked a strong suit for VENDANT when he went close over an extended 2m5f at Fontwell recently and he can get off the mark.

14:00 Catterick Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 25f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

FRISBY showed ability when making the frame on his hurdling debut over an extended 2m3f at this venue in December and this step up in trip could be a good move. Patrick Neville's seven-year-old sports a first-time tongue-tie and might find the improvement required. The Clonmel Kid finished a respectable third on his first start over timber here last month and could take a step forward, while Tigerbythetail completes the shortlist.

There was plenty to like about FRISBY's opening hurdle effort and perhaps he can improve past Tigerbythetail, who is the form choice but needs to shrug off a terrible run last time. Like the selection, The Clonmel Kid should also have more to offer after an encouraging hurdle debut.

The vote goes to FRISBY, who made a promising start in this sphere when third here and should prove well suited by the longer distance.

(8) Narragansett 2/5, Fairly useful (and lightly-raced) winner on the Flat and has found just one too good on each of his 2 starts in juvenile hurdles, both of which were decent-looking contests. Now tried in a hood and, with improvement on the cards, he may well make it third time lucky.

Will be all the more appealing if the market speaks in his favour.

14:15 Plumpton Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Neil Mulholland's four-year-old NARRAGANSETT must have a good chance judged on his performances in juvenile hurdles at Market Rasen and Wetherby. A winner on the Flat in a Curragh handicap, it's just a matter of time before he breaks through in this sphere. Hurdles debutant Under The Sun also warrants consideration for a top yard, likewise Ludlow bumper winner Gregorians Star.

Having shown plenty in juvenile hurdles at Market Rasen and Wetherby, NARRAGANSETT is taken to open his account here with the aid of a first-time hood. Under The Sun is a fascinating contender given that he was was borderline Group-class on the Flat and the booking of Harry Cobden suggests that connections mean business.

The withdrawal of Nap Hand leaves NARRAGANSETT the clear pick on hurdles form. Under The Sun is feared most.

14:30 Catterick Handicap Chase (Class 5) 25f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

ASA finished 16 lengths clear of the third when taking the silver medal home in this grade at Market Rasen six days ago and competes off an unchanged mark. The six-year-old makes only her fifth chase start and could have more to offer. Northern Reel hasn't finished outside of the top two home on each of her last three outings, winning once, and should remain competitive, while Baby Chou is another to consider.

ASA has shown improved form with cheekpieces reapplied on her last 2 starts, opening her chase account at Market Rasen on Boxing Day before pulling clear with a chasing debutant at the same course last time, so she is is taken to resume winning ways. Northern Reel also arrives in good form and isn't taken lightly, while It's Maisy could take a step forward.

This could go to IT'S MAISY who could take a sizeable step forward from her chasing debut fourth at Wetherby now she is back up in trip.

14:45 Plumpton Handicap Chase (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Theonlywayiswessex supplemented some decent efforts in defeat when landing the spoils over C&D in December. Although Alan King's charge scored with something in hand that day, a 10lb hike could prove his downfall and a chance is taken on chase debutant KORUS. The five-year-old arrives on the back of a good third at Ffos Las and he looks just the type to excel in this discipline. Ede'iffs Rock can also figure.

An open race with the vote going to JOHN W CREASY, who's getting the hang of things over fences now and was beaten only by a much-improved one at Warwick on New Year's Eve. Ede'iffs Rock is next best ahead of Walks Like The Man.

Topweight THEONLYWAYISWESSEX (nap) impressed over C&D last time and can defy a 10lb rise. The in-form John W Creasy is a danger.

15:00 Catterick Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU justified favouritism in ready fashion over an extended 2m3f at this track on New Year's Day and he now makes his first start in a handicap in this sphere. Jennie Candlish's five-year-old should have no issues with this drop in trip and an opening mark of 118 looks manageable. Bathgate is in brilliant form after scoring over C&D last month and has to be respected. Nowmelad is next best.

Preference is for HAARAR, who ran a cracker at Carlisle last week and is able to run off the same mark here. It's All About You and Nowmelad rate the principal dangers.

It's hard to go against Jennie Candlish's improving IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU who can now make it five wins in a row.

15:15 Plumpton Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

CONFINENTIC showed major improvement from first to second start over hurdles when scoring over 2m here last time out, and the rise in distance could eke out further progress on his handicap debut. Telhimlisten can give him the most to think about following a taking success at Sedgefield, while the consistent Godot is likely to be thereabouts as well after finishing second at Lingfield last time out.

CONFINENTIC was much improved from hurdling debut when getting off the mark at this course in December, form boosted by the runner-up winning next time, and with this longer trip to suit based on pedigree he can continue his progress to follow up. Telhimlisten could be the main danger having made a winning return back with Jennie Candlish, ahead of Godot.

The very lightly raced 5yo CONFINENTIC kept on well to win a 2m novice hurdle here in December and can follow up now up in trip.

15:30 Catterick Handicap Chase (Class 5) 19f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

IDEALLKO continues to go from strength to strength and is turned out quickly following a 22-length victory at Southwell last Monday when making it a hat-trick. The seven-year-old is expected to be a tough nut to crack with a 7lb penalty unlikely to make any difference. Tanking Along appeals as the type who can improve for the switch to chasing, while the application of cheekpieces might help As Tears Go By.

IDEALLKO is thriving at present and completed a quickfire hat-trick back over fences at Southwell last week in the style of one who'll take plenty of beating under a penalty. Tanking Along has the profile to make a much better chaser so may emerge as the biggest threat on handicap bow.

Evan Williams' IDEALLKO had plenty in the tank at Southwell and can make light of a 7lb penalty to complete a four-timer.

15:45 Plumpton Handicap Chase (Class 3) 28f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

A tentative vote goes to SIBERIAN STAR, who was value for more than the winning margin when hampered and eventually got up late to score over 3m1f at Catterick last time out. A further rise in distance looks like a good move, and he may have enough to see off recent course winner Invincible Nao, and Supervisor, who wasn't beaten far at Catterick on his most recent outing.

Plenty with claims here, including INVINCIBLE NAO, who had a couple of these rivals behind when scoring here a fortnight ago and remains feasibly treated. He gets the nod. Supervisor and Vision de Maine head the list of dangers

Having stayed on strongly to win over the extended 3m1f here latest, INVINCIBLE NAO looks a good prospect for a further step up in trip.

16:00 Catterick Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 19f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

FOSTER'S FORTUNE ran out a comfortable winner at Sedgefield in December before going close off a 7lb higher mark on Boxing Day at the same venue, and this represents a fine opportunity for Chris Grant's progressive gelding to strike again. Hajey is 3lb lower than when finishing second in this contest 12 months ago and is respected following a wind operation, while Not A Light and Saligo Bay are noted too.

Cases can be readily made for several of these but the lightly-raced BALCOMIE BREEZE nevertheless stands out on account of his potential having landed a gamble in good style here recently. That was his first run following a wind op and, now that he has seemingly turned the corner, there could be plenty more to come from this 7-y-o. Final Edgar bounced back to form with a near-miss over C&D last time and he is just about feared most ahead of Not A Light and Foster's Fortune.

The interesting horse is NOT A LIGHT (nap) who is his West Country stable's only runner on the card. He looks very well handicapped.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Alto Alto faced just three rivals when he won this race off 3lb higher last year and although dangerous to underestimate with a visor added, recent form suggests the more progressive JOLYJUMP could be a safer option. Unexposed in this discipline, the son of Kapgarde is highly appealing on just his fourth start over the larger obstacles. C&D winner Non Stop is the pick of the remainder.

NON STOP won over hurdles here earlier this season and figures off a handy mark back over the larger obstacles. He can land the spoils. Jolyjump should appreciate the return to a left-handed track and rates the chief threat.

Preference is for last year's winner ALTO ALTO, who could return to form with a bang now back here in a first-time visor.

FINN RUSSELL had English Spirit (seventh) well behind when successful over C&D in December before hitting the crossbar here last month. Ian Williams' five-year-old might only need to reproduce either of those displays in order to make it two wins from his last three starts. English Spirit put in a better effort to fill the runner-up spot over track and trip latest and could get closer to the selection on this occasion. Paradoxical sports first-time cheekpieces and is another to note.

He remains on a workable mark, depsite being 10 lb higher than for his latest success, and shades preference ahead of English Spirit, who returned to form when hitting the crossbar here recently and a reproduction of that effort would put him firmly in the picture. Golspie makes some each-way appeal.

Preference is for topweight SATURNALIA whose turn looks near. Paradoxical is second choice.

16:30 Catterick NH Flat Race (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Sedgefield winner COUNT OF VENDOME backed that performance up when third in a Listed contest at Cheltenham in November and the son of Getaway sets a decent standard based on the evidence of that display. American Empire may step forward from his third on debut at Lingfield, while Jet Approach is related to several winners and isn't one to discount.

If COUNT OF VENDOME can reproduce anything like the form he showed when third at listed level in November he'll set a good standard for the rest to aim at. White Riot might leave last season's debut effort behind and is selected for the forecast spot.

Count Of Vendome may take some beating but Flat-bred WHITE RIOT could easily be better than he showed on his soft-ground debut.

16:45 Plumpton Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Running off just 3lb higher than when she won at Stratford last summer, GETMETOTHEMOON is an attractive proposition bidding to double her career tally with Chad Bament, who knows her well, claiming a very handy 10lb. Little Soiree runs for a yard that has turned a corner of late and also commands respect having been cut some slack by the handicapper. Sawpit Sienna completes the shortlist.

Chris Gordon has his team in form so it might be worth siding with LITTLE SOIREE, who is 5 lb lower than when third on her Windsor handicap debut in December. The consistent Getmetothemoon is the obvious danger unless the betting speaks in the favour of Neil Mulholland handicap newcomer Little Lady Lucy.

Preference is for the consistent GETMETOTHEMOON in a race in which the majority have something to prove.

17:00 Wolverhampton Stakes (Class 5) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

MEGAPHONE made a good impression when making all to beat a subsequent winner over 6f at Kempton last month and he is likely to have plenty more to offer. George Boughey's three-year-old showed bundles of pace on that occasion, so the drop in trip shouldn't pose him any problems. Queenofdestruction has occupied the runner-up berth on three of her four starts to date and holds an obvious chance, while Desert Champion is another to note.

MEGAPHONE improved on debut form when justifying market confidence in straightforward fashion at Kempton and can defy a penalty with further progress likely. Queenofdestruction can fill the runner-up spot again ahead of Desert Champion, who is 7 lb better off with the selection having finished behind him at Kempton.

The filly QUEENOFDESTRUCTION has the best chance at the weights, while Megaphone warrants respect with further progress plausible.

17:30 Wolverhampton Handicap (Class 5) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

COUNSEL and Rosenpur are both last-time-out scorers, but a slight preference is for the former after his comfortable victory at Lingfield on Friday. Provided the seven-year-old has no issues with this quick turnaround, he could defy a 4lb penalty. As for the latter, he is seeking his third C&D victory from his last four outings, so has to be taken seriously. Of the remainder, Darlo Pride makes the most appeal.

BEAR ROCK is low mileage for her age and arrives on the back of a career-best effort here last month. She is the pick in an open-looking contest. Recent winners Counsel and Rosenpur look the likeliest dangers.

Last year's winner DARLO PRIDE holds particularly solid claims and is first choice ahead of Catch Cunningham.

18:00 Wolverhampton Handicap (Class 5) 10f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Scarlet Sunset appreciated stepping up to 1m1f when she won a maiden here in December and could continue to progress on her handicap debut. However, this is a deeper race and it could be worth taking a punt on NORTHWEST PASSAGE being able to put his superior experience to good use. Panama Black has looked ready for a stronger test of stamina and he too can figure.

This looks trappy and the suggestion is PANAMA BLACK, who shaped as though ready for a step up in trip when finding just one too good off this mark in a 7.2f handicap here recently. Stamina certainly won't be an issue for Flaine on the back of her solid third upped to 1¼m at Newcastle and she is next on the list ahead of Jonny Garlic, for whom this step up in trip is of dubious benefit.

The filly SCARLET SUNSET showed a good attitude to win a maiden over 8.6f here in December and is taken to follow up.

18:30 Wolverhampton Stakes (Class 6) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

The likes of Ajrad, Bernie The Bear and Miss Calculation are closely matched based on recent all-weather encounters. However, with none of that trio exactly noted for reliability, this could be a good time to give BALMY BREESE another chance. His form against this calibre of opponent stacks up well and, having responded kindly to Gina Mangan in the plate of late, he might be a bit of value.

YOU ARE EVERYTHING is in better form than her recent form figures suggest and could be worth chancing returned to 7f. There isn't much between Bernie The Bear and Ajrad judged on their recent handicap form here and they head the dangers.

With the return to 7f a likely plus, in-form maiden YOU ARE EVERYTHING is taken to get off the mark. Big Narstie is second choice.

19:00 Wolverhampton Stakes (Class 6) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Heerathetrack and MATCH ANTHEM top the shortlist. While the former can get competitive at this level, the latter has been more profitable to follow and reverting to 7f can initiate a return to winning ways, with Luke Morris, who was in the plate when he won over C&D on Boxing Day, retaining the ride. Available Angel should also go well, while Seas Of Elzaam merits a second look after hinting at a revival at Lingfield most recently.

SEAS OF ELZAAM looks capable of winning one of these having conceded first run to the winner when second in a similar event at Lingfield last month. Match Anthem and Heerathetrack are others to consider.

Heerathetrack can be dangerous back at this level but MATCH ANTHEM gets the vote on the basis of his good C&D win in December.

19:30 Wolverhampton Stakes (Class 6) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Having posted another creditable effort in defeat when runner-up in handicap company over 1m2f at Newcastle nine days ago, compensation could beckon for BUSBY. A return to his last winning distance should only help and the veteran looks more than capable of scoring in classified company. Fascinating Lips faces his easiest assignment for quite some time and the Canford Cliffs gelding is feared most, ahead of Foinix.

HONRADO hasn't been with his new yard long and was clear of the rest when runner-up to a thriving sort at Lingfield last month. He makes fair appeal. Busby and Zooks look the likeliest dangers.

Although yet to win, ZOOKS is knocking on the door and she had a wide trip when going close in a classified at Southwell last time.

20:00 Wolverhampton Stakes (Class 6) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

ZAFAAN found only a higher-rated rival too strong in a similar contest at Southwell recently and he makes plenty of appeal on this quick turnaround. That was the five-year-old's first outing over 1m4f on the Flat and any improvement should make him tough to pass. Fellow in-form rival National Health could unlock some potential on this rise in distance and he may serve the most resistance to the selection, ahead of Limelight.

Plenty with chances in the second division of this classified event but ZAFAAN might prove the answer having been in good form over hurdles and on the Flat for new trainer Charlie Clover in recent months. An unexposed profile suggests Spartan Times may do better again and he's second choice ahead of Limelight and National Health.

An open event in which plenty of the runners have possibilities. The percentage call goes to ZAFAAN, ahead of National Health.

20:30 Wolverhampton Handicap (Class 6) 9f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Conquest Of Power returned to form with a solid second at Newcastle six days ago and the five-year-old must enter the reckoning racing off an unchanged mark. However, KING OF SPEED is a 1lb lower than his recent close-up second at Kempton and he edges the vote. The unexposed Marioento offered encouragement on his fourth-placed handicap bow over C&D in late January and any further improvement could see him battling out the finish as well.

KING OF SPEED ran well in an apprentice event at Kempton last week and can land a second C&D win of the winter with Billy Loughnane back in the saddle. Marioento rates an obvious threat as an unexposed sort from a leading yard, while course-specialist Snooze Lane is back on a good mark if returning from a short break at the top of his game.

On the back of a sound effort, KING OF SPEED (nap) could well record a second win in this contest. Marioento is second pick.

About U.K Horse Racing

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.

There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.

The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.

In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.

Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
