1st (9) (25/1 +0%) The Midwife |
25/1(+0%) | (9) The Midwife 25/1, Successful sole start in Irish points but just minor promise so far under Rules and needs to find improvement on switch to handicaps. Hasn't shown much over hurdles but this point winner goes handicapping off a lowly mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) (12/1 -33%) Backinforglory |
12/1(-33%) | (11) Backinforglory 12/1, Low-mileage sort who returned to form when second of 8 in handicap hurdle at Southwell (20.4f, soft) 20 days ago. Can go well again nudged up 1 lb. Returned to form when 2nd at Southwell and she's a player if backing up that performance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (2/1 +64%) Sailed Away |
2/1(+64%) | (10) Sailed Away 2/1, Arrives on the back of a very good second of 11 in handicap hurdle at Huntingdon (19.6f, soft) 25 days ago, clear of rest. Up 5 lb but he's expected to be bang there in his bid for a breakthrough victory. Clear with unexposed winner at Huntingdon last month; no surprise if he goes one better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (5/1 -11%) Nimbus Boy |
5/1(-11%) | (1) Nimbus Boy 5/1, Landed a gambled on just second start for current yard when winning 2m4f handicap hurdle at Hereford. Only fourth at Wincanton in his follow-up bid since so needs to get back to his best. Only 4th when unpenalised at Wincanton; now 7lb higher, but could still have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (40/1 -400%) Tip Top Tonto |
40/1(-400%) | (8) Tip Top Tonto 40/1, Fair performer at best who got back on track in a first-time visor when second of 9 in novice selling hurdle at Southwell (15.8f, soft) 20 days ago. Shortlisted. Back to form when second in Southwell seller three weeks ago in a first-time visor. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (18/1 -50%) Propelled |
18/1(-50%) | (4) Propelled 18/1, From a top yard but it's been all downhill since finishing second on his Huntingdon hurdle debut in March 2022. Others appeal more. Yet to get competitive in handicaps but perhaps the first-time headgear will help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (16/1 -14%) Bridget Breeze |
16/1(-14%) | (3) Bridget Breeze 16/1, Bumper winner who wasn't disgraced when fifth in 2m course handicap in December, despite looking awkward under pressure. Possibilities. Didn't run badly when 5th on second handicap start, when perhaps heavy going wasn't ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (6/1 -50%) A Dublin Job |
6/1(-50%) | (5) A Dublin Job 6/1, First run since leaving Ciaran Murphy when good third at Market Rasen (23.1f). Failed to build on it though when ninth at Hereford since so more is required in refitted cheekpieces. Disappointing last time but was without these cheekpieces; not written off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (100/1 -203%) City Roller |
100/1(-203%) | (2) City Roller 100/1, Placed in a Newcastle novice hurdle in February but has shown very little since, including when tried over fences. Displayed ability in bumpers and novice hurdles but he's struggled in his four handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (7) (13/2 -18%) Captain Jack |
13/2(-18%) | (7) Captain Jack 13/2, Remains a maiden after 24 runs but posted a solid second for his new yard in handicap hurdle at this C&D (good to soft) 42 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Considered. 11yo who is 0-24 but went close over C&D on stable debut and could be bang there once more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (12) (28/1 -75%) Begoodtoyourself |
28/1(-75%) | (12) Begoodtoyourself 28/1, Opened his hurdles account at Carlisle (19.3f) but went with little fluency when pulled up in Uttoxeter handicap later in December. Needs to get back on track. Won at Carlisle in December and heavy ground may not have suited at Uttoxeter subsequently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (13/2 -8%) What A Steal |
13/2(-8%) | (6) What A Steal 13/2, Off 7 months/had a wind op ahead of creditable sixth of 15 in handicap hurdle at Doncaster (20.8f, good) 81 days ago. Can give a good account in his bid for a maiden success. Fair sixth of 15 at Doncaster on second handicap start and could build on that today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
It takes quite a leap of faith to get behind an 11-year-old maiden, but CAPTAIN JACK doesn't have many miles on the clock for one his age and made a most encouraging beginning to life with James Owen when runner-up over C&D. The performance looks even better now, thanks to the winner going in again subsequently, and he is preferred to Huntingdon second Sailed Away. Nimbus Boy couldn't back up a Hereford triumph at Wincanton but still merits respect.
SAILED AWAY signalled he's ready to go in over hurdles when a clear Huntingdon runner-up last time out and a 5 lb rise still sees him on a handy-looking mark. Backinforglory rates the main danger on the back of her good Southwell second, although What A Steal, Captain Jack and Tip Top Tonto all need factoring into this competitive event.
The 11yo CAPTAIN JACK is taken to get off the mark belatedly, having gone close over C&D on Boxing Day on his stable debut.

1st (4) (11/8 +31%) The Doyen Chief |
11/8(+31%) | (4) The Doyen Chief 11/8, Winning pointer/bumper performer who landed the odds without any fuss over hurdles at Market Rasen. 5/1, still in touch when unseated rider 3 out in handicap hurdle at Lingfield (19.5f, good to soft) 16 days ago. Remains likely to improve. Big shout. Work to do when he unseated 16 days ago; previous form makes him a leading contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (5/2 -33%) Classic King |
5/2(-33%) | (2) Classic King 5/2, Made a winning start over hurdles at Wincanton (15.2f) in October and better form when runner-up at Kempton and Doncaster since. Can go well again. The pick on form; did not reproduce it when 2-5 latest but should stay this longer trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (12/1 +25%) Jupiter Allen |
12/1(+25%) | (3) Jupiter Allen 12/1, Fair 2m winning hurdler but he came in only tenth of 15 in handicap hurdle at Wincanton (19.8f, soft) 25 days ago. Needs to bounce back. Beaten 33l in a handicap last time and needs major overall improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (15/2 +38%) Tiny Tetley |
15/2(+38%) | (10) Tiny Tetley 15/2, Failed to build on debut third when only ninth of 18 in novice hurdle at Wincanton (15.2f, heavy, 4/1) 49 days ago. Up in trip with more required. Hood is removed; upped in trip but needs to leave his latest run (on soft) way behind him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (3/1 -9%) Centara |
3/1(-9%) | (1) Centara 3/1, Useful bumper winner who landed odds in 14-runner novice hurdle at this C&D (good to soft) 38 days ago. May do better still so he's much respected under 7 lb penalty. Far from the finished article but won both appearances at Taunton and can do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (40/1 -344%) Super Sabre Sam |
40/1(-344%) | (9) Super Sabre Sam 40/1, Held in fourth when fell last in novice hurdle (66/1) at this C&D (good to soft) on hurdles bow 38 days ago won by Centara. Needs to step forward. 66-1 over C&D but mounting a challenge and almost upsides Centara when falling at the last. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (150/1 -127%) Hidalgo Des Bordes |
150/1(-127%) | (6) Hidalgo Des Bordes 150/1, Runner-up on third of 3 starts in Irish points back in May 2022. Tenth of 12 in novice hurdle (40/1) at Fontwell (19.2f, soft) on NH debut 9 days ago. Irish point second; 624 days off when remote at Fontwell (2m3f, soft; 80-1) nine days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (80/1 -21%) Captain Marco |
80/1(-21%) | (5) Captain Marco 80/1, Twice-raced maiden, better effort when fifth of 11 in novice hurdle at this course (16.5f, good to soft) 82 days ago. Sort to do better in due course. While this step up in trip should suit, he has no serious form claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (250/1 -279%) J'attendrai |
250/1(-279%) | (7) J'attendrai 250/1, €5,000 3-y-o, Buck's Boum gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful 21f hurdle winner I Shut That d'Or. Unplaced sole start in Irish points (May 2023). Well related but tailed off in an Irish maiden point (3m, good) last May. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
THE DOYEN CHIEF had started to backpedal when getting rid of Tom Cannon at Lingfield's Winter Million fixture, but he was progressing nicely in novice company prior to that handicap debut and can resume his forward momentum. Classic King is actually rated 1lb higher, and chased home the exciting Queens Gamble at Kempton, but he has a subsequent costly Doncaster failure to atone for. Centara worked harder than his odds suggested he would at Taunton, but he wasn't too far behind Jeriko Du Reponet at Newbury prior to that so he has to be feared.
THE DOYEN CHIEF has better days ahead of him and is fancied to quickly resume winning ways having come down late at Lingfield last time when still close up. Classic King rates a big threat on form but might again have to settle for second best ahead of C&D scorer Centara.
This is quite a puzzle but CLASSIC KING is the form pick and given another chance following his defeat when 2-5 last time out.

1st (2) (15/8 +6%) Moon D'orange |
15/8(+6%) | (2) Moon D'orange 15/8, Fairly useful hurdler who acquitted himself well in a better race when third in 10-runner Grade 2 at Cheltenham (24f, good to soft) 52 days ago, having run of race. Has since left John McConnell. Placed in decent novice hurdles at Carlisle, Thurles & Cheltenham; has left John McConnell. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (10/11 +17%) Emailandy |
10/11(+17%) | (1) Emailandy 10/11, Third in a bumper in the spring and built on that to make a successful start over hurdles in a novice at Plumpton in November, powering away. Has shown better form in defeat subsequently and this looks a good opportunity to resume winning ways. Close third at Newbury (penultimate start) to a subsequent winner; sets the benchmark.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (28/1 -155%) Caher Roes Den |
28/1(-155%) | (4) Caher Roes Den 28/1, Bought for £110,000 after winning an Irish point in April but failed to meet expectations in a novice hurdle at Ayr on Rules debut in December. Clearly thought capable of better. Point winner; failed to justify market confidence when fifth at Ayr (2m6f); early days.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (9/2 -29%) Sao Carlos |
9/2(-29%) | (3) Sao Carlos 9/2, Justified favouritism when making a successful bumper debut over C&D last winter and left his hurdling debut form when winning 14-runner maiden at Wetherby (2m) 24 days ago. More to come now stepping up in trip. Promising type; kept on to win at Wetherby (2m maiden; soft) last month; 2m4f+ looks ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (250/1 -150%) Lily Baloo |
250/1(-150%) | (5) Lily Baloo 250/1, Looks one for the longer term judged on early evidence in bumpers. Soundly beaten in two bumpers (Catterick and Wetherby); stiff task switching to hurdles.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Emailandy made the frame in a warm Newbury novice hurdle before finding only one too strong on his handicap debut at Kempton's Christmas fixture. He has the same official rating as MOON D'ORANGE, but the latter finished third in a Cheltenham Grade 2 and, interestingly, new handler Fergal O'Brien has given him a Festival entry. Sao Carlos has shaped with considerable promise so far, particularly when breaking his jumping duck at Wetherby, and must not be taken lightly.
This looks a good opportunity for EMAILANDY to resume winning ways having run to a near useful level on both his starts since making a successful hurdling debut at Plumpton in November. Sao Carlos undoubtedly has more to offer now stepping up to a more suitable trip, with the more exposed Moon d'Orange also respected on first outing for Fergal O'Brien.
This probably rests between EMAILANDY and Moon D'Orange. Paul Nicholls' charge sets the benchmark, with his form stacking up well.

1st (1) (5/6 +34%) Fire Flyer |
5/6(+34%) | (1) Fire Flyer 5/6, Fairly useful bumper scorer who easily got off the mark in this sphere in 8-runner novice hurdle at Wincanton (15.2f, soft, 2/13) 5 days ago. Back up in trip and can do better. On bumper and hurdles form, he's one of two who dominate calculations in this field. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (11/10 +20%) Secret Squirrel |
11/10(+20%) | (3) Secret Squirrel 11/10, Fairly useful form shown when landing bumpers at Taunton and Fontwell in the spring and bolted up on hurdling debut at Kempton despite pulling hard. Excellent second in Newbury conditions event since. More to offer so he's a big player. Lost unbeaten record last time behind Cheltenham hope Jeriko Du Reponet but rallied well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (6/1 +40%) Moorefields |
6/1(+40%) | (2) Moorefields 6/1, Built on debut promise when landing 16-runner novice hurdle at Exeter (18.5f, heavy) 36 days ago, staying on well. Open to improvement with his stamina drawn out more. Won at Exeter (2m2f, heavy) latest; two of today's rivals, however, demand big improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (28/1 -331%) Move With The Beat |
28/1(-331%) | (8) Move With The Beat 28/1, £10,000 3-y-o, Doyen gelding. Dual point winner, including last time (May 2023), so he's respected on hurdling debut. Two wins and a 2nd in three British points last spring; interesting to see market strength. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (50/1 -456%) Earth Cry |
50/1(-456%) | (5) Earth Cry 50/1, Useful bumper winner for Milton Harris but off 11 months since a well-held fifth in 2m Wincanton maiden hurdle. Needs to hit the ground running for his new handler. Won two good-gound bumpers but beaten 21l in both his hurdle races; has left Milton Harris. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (200/1 -100%) Getuptheyard |
200/1(-100%) | (6) Getuptheyard 200/1, Getaway gelding who has been well held in 2 bumpers/novice hurdles. Beaten a long way in two heavy-ground bumpers and two 2m Taunton novice hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (80/1 -60%) Broomhill Road |
80/1(-60%) | (4) Broomhill Road 80/1, 20/1, third of 6 in novice hurdle at Market Rasen (20.6f, soft) 75 days ago. Lots to find on form though. Showed some ability in his two bumpers but remote at 20-1 in both his hurdle races. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (250/1 -150%) Palawan Du Mazet |
250/1(-150%) | (9) Palawan Du Mazet 250/1, 150/1, last of 8 in novice hurdle at Ffos Las (20f, heavy) on hurdles bow 5 days ago. Came last in two bumpers and a 2m4f Ffos Las maiden hurdle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (200/1 -100%) Whats Cooking |
200/1(-100%) | (10) Whats Cooking 200/1, Tongue strap on for 1st time, pulled up in novice hurdle (150/1) at Wincanton (15.2f, soft) on hurdles bow 25 days ago. Up in trip. Close second in one of his three points but no form in his two starts under rules. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (250/1 -279%) Iron Wings |
250/1(-279%) | (7) Iron Wings 250/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 28/1, first run since leaving Nigel Hawke when last of 10 in novice hurdle at Exeter (16.7f, heavy) on hurdles bow 36 days ago. Didn't show a great deal in bumpers or on stable/hurdle debut after 669-day absence. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
SECRET SQUIRREL may have lost his unbeaten record at Newbury, but he probably enhanced his reputation even further by getting to within less than two lengths of Jeriko Du Reponet. Hughie Morrison has resisted the temptation of a Cheltenham entry, but his five-year-old remains a very bright prospect. Fire Flyer also chased home a Festival fancy, when bumping into Gidleigh Park at Newbury, and he took little out of himself at Wincanton last week. Exeter scorer Moorefields is the third penalised runner in the race and rounds out the shortlist.
Hughie Morrison's SECRET SQUIRREL found only Nicky Henderson's highly-rated Jeriko du Reponet too good at Newbury last time so is taken to regain the winning thread at the chief expense of Paul Nicholls' Wincanton scorer Fire Flyer. Exeter victor Moorefields rates the pick of the rest for place purposes.
Fire Flyer did not come under pressure to win last Thursday but faces a vastly more demanding rival this time in SECRET SQUIRREL.

1st (4) (10/3 +17%) Hara Kiri |
10/3(+17%) | (4) Hara Kiri 10/3, Placed all 3 starts in bumpers (first 2 when in the care of Willie Mullins) and signs of promise in this sphere for Alex Hales during 2021/22 campaign. Promising handicap/stable debut third of 12 at Leicester (15.5f, heavy) when returning from a lengthy absence and he's a live contender. Promising third at Leicester on handicap debut when back from absence; could build on it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (11/8 -15%) Good Lord |
11/8(-15%) | (5) Good Lord 11/8, Winner on the Flat in Germany and, following a wind op and with a first-time togue strap enlisted, he duly left his qualifying runs in this sphere well behind when dotting up on handicap debut at Plumpton (15.9f, good to soft) last week. Obvious claims under a penalty. Easy win on recent handicap debut at Plumpton and could be tough to beat under a penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (10/1 +60%) Birdhouse |
10/1(+60%) | (8) Birdhouse 10/1, Made second bumper start a winning one at Fakenham last February but lacks the physique and pedigree for jumping and has shown little in this sphere to date. Now tried in cheekpieces. Has struggled on her four hurdle runs but perhaps cheekpieces will help this bumper winner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (22/1 -120%) Hugueneau |
22/1(-120%) | (6) Hugueneau 22/1, Point winner who has yet to make a significant impact over hurdles but hasn't been with present yard long and latest effort when sporting first-time cheekpieces (retained here) at Doncaster can be overlooked (saddle slipped in early stages). Still, improvement is required. Fair fourth on his handicap and stable debut over C&D and has had excuses the next twice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (11/2 +45%) Greatness Awaits |
11/2(+45%) | (1) Greatness Awaits 11/2, Fair on Flat at up to 1½m and ran right up to best in this sphere when second over this C&D last summer. However, he wasn't in the same back from a 5-month break at Southwell and while he's entitled to come on for that, others may be better treated. Cheekpieces refitted. Good second here last August and could build on last month's return to action at Southwell. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (8/1 +11%) Ez Tiger |
8/1(+11%) | (7) Ez Tiger 8/1, Benefited from chasing a strong pace when opening hurdles account at Southwel (15.8f, good to soft) last summer. Ground would've been plenty soft enough for him back from a break over the same C&D last month and not without each-way hope off 1 lb lower here. Running consistently well in first half of season and may be able to build on latest run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (100/1 -203%) Parish Star |
100/1(-203%) | (10) Parish Star 100/1, Modest form on the Flat in Ireland for Jim Bolger and has made little impact in her 3 completed starts over hurdles. 9 lb 'wrong' at the weights for this handicap debut. Trainer does well with 4yos in handicaps but this filly has shown little over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (10/1 +17%) Chicago Gal |
10/1(+17%) | (3) Chicago Gal 10/1, Fair on the Flat and showed an aptitude for hurdling on 2 of her 3 starts in juvenile events last winter. Shaped pretty well on return/handicap debut at Musselburgh in December but failed to build on that next time and, overall, her record stands at 0-16. Hasn't run badly in first two handicap hurdles but needs something extra to win today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (100/1 +0%) Fast Deal |
100/1(+0%) | (11) Fast Deal 100/1, Poor maiden who looks set for another struggle. Longstanding maiden who is 10lb out of the handicap; hard to fancy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (25/1 -25%) Northern Rose |
25/1(-25%) | (9) Northern Rose 25/1, Has merely hinted at ability in various company so far and sizeable step forward needed now that he's pitched into a handicap. 4yo who makes her handicap hurdle debut but improvement is required. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A wind operation and the step into handicap company proved the making of GOOD LORD at Plumpton last week, with the German import sauntering to success. Billy Aprahamian is wise to get him out before the assessor can take revenge and he can go in again. Hara Kiri made a really pleasing return from the sidelines when third on his own handicap bow at Leicester and looks a lively threat. Not much separated Ez Tiger and Greatness Awaits when fourth and fifth at Southwell, in a race where Jumping Jupiter didn't show his true colours.
It's hard to escape the claims of GOOD LORD, who looked a different proposition following a break/wind op when bolting up on his handicap bow at Plumpton and he is a step ahead of the assessor under a penalty here. He won't have things all his own way, though, if Hara Kiri is able to build on his encouraging comeback run at Leicester. Ez Tiger and Jumping Jupiter are viable each-way options.
This revolves around the penalised GOOD LORD (nap), who was an easy winner on last week's handicap debut at Plumpton.

1st (1) (13/2 -95%) Rewired |
13/2(-95%) | (1) Rewired 13/2, Landed a pair of 2m handicaps at Huntingdon last season and raised his game when notching a fourth hurdles success at Doncaster on return in December. 5 lb rise asks a question but he's a likeable type and another bold show is anticipated. Did well last term and resumed winning ways at Doncaster (2m) in late December on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (13/8 +64%) Bold Reaction |
13/8(+64%) | (2) Bold Reaction 13/8, Fairly useful bumper winner who has finished second on 2 of his 3 starts since undergoing a wind op. Chased home Wholeofthemoon in a 19.4f Doncaster handicap last time and merits respect here on the back of that effort, albeit he has a bit to find with Rewired on a line through Wholeofthemoon. 2nd at Doncaster (2m3f, good to soft) in just his second handicap, despite racing freely. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (11/1 +31%) Winterwatch |
11/1(+31%) | (7) Winterwatch 11/1, Three-time winner on the Flat but below par back on the level last year and similar story returned to hurdles the last twice. Others preferred. Fairly useful Flat winner but not so good as a seven-race maiden (three 2nds) over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (9/2 +25%) Inoui Machin |
9/2(+25%) | (5) Inoui Machin 9/2, Winner of 2 of his 3 starts in bumpers and has finished in the money in a trio of maiden/novice hurdles at up to 19.4f at Doncaster. Beaten by a potentially pretty useful one last time and could be a factor now pitched into a handicap in first-time cheekpieces. Placed at Doncaster all three hurdle starts; blinkered last two and now tries cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (125/1 -525%) Greystoke |
125/1(-525%) | (9) Greystoke 125/1, Opened hurdles account at Newton Abbot in May 2022 and hit the target on the Flat last spring. However, well held latest start on the level during the summer and opposable back from a break for new connections. 1-6 hurdling (last hurdle race July 2022); well beaten last two Flat runs; left Alan King. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (6/1 -20%) Beny Nahar Road |
6/1(-20%) | (3) Beny Nahar Road 6/1, Fairly useful maiden on the Flat for Richard Hughes and runner-up on first 2 starts over hurdles. Too free when fifth in a 14-runner novice here (good to soft) last time but will be a serious player if settling better on this handicap bow with headgear added. Could do with settling a lot better (underperformed over C&D latest) and aids are enlisted. |

7th (4) (25/1 -285%) Three Cliffs Bay |
25/1(-285%) | (4) Three Cliffs Bay 25/1, Left hurdles debut behind when winning a 2m Ffos Las novice (heavy) in November. Performed to a similar level when third to a useful type in The Jukebox Man upped to 2½m at the same course since, and he's open to improvement now switched to handicap company. 25-1 win at Ffos Las (2m) and creditable third in another heavy-ground novice there (2m4f). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (14/1 +0%) Chandlers Bay |
14/1(+0%) | (6) Chandlers Bay 14/1, Placed in 2m events at Ffos Las and Plumpton on first 2 completed starts over hurdles last winter. Struggled on return/handicap bow at Lingfield in December and while he should be sharper now, improvement is certainly needed. Shaped well early last year; weak 11-1, soundly beaten on handicap debut in December. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (7/1 -75%) Gifted Angel |
7/1(-75%) | (8) Gifted Angel 7/1, Unable to win on the Flat but been a different story over hurdles, scoring for third time in this sphere at Kempton (2m, good) in October. By no means disgraced in a heavy-ground Cheltenham Grade 2 last time and, armed with his healthy 4-y-o allowance, he's a big player back in handicap company. Successful juvenile; return to a sharper test today should suit and he needs a second look. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Rewired gets on well with Luke Scott and made a triumphant return to the fray under the claimer at Doncaster. He has a 5lb higher figure to contend with and crosses swords with an unexposed opponent in the shape of INOUI MACHIN, who bumped into a smart novice, also at Doncaster, last time and now goes handicapping off an interesting mark. Fellow handicap newcomer Beny Nahar Road could also be well treated, while the horse who beat Bold Reaction on his reappearance was then put in his place by Rewired.
This looks competitive for the grade and BENY NAHAR ROAD tops a shortlist comprising six of the nine due to go to post. He hasn't helped himself by pulling hard on each of his three starts over hurdles but the increased tempo he'll experience now handicapping, together with the addition of a hood/tongue strap, could make all the difference. Gifted Angel is an obvious threat given his 4-y-o allowance, while Inoui Machin and Three Cliffs Bay are, like the selection, interesting handicap debutants.
Rewired looks reliable and can put up another bold show but slight preference is for BOLD REACTION who latest form reads well.

1st (4) (11/5 +45%) Hashtag Boum |
11/5(+45%) | (4) Hashtag Boum 11/5, Irish point winner who opened her Rules account at Kelso last April. Comes here on the back of a good second in 22f handicap there 39 days ago so he's very much one to consider eased 1 lb. In good form the last twice and today's extra yardage could suit this lightly raced mare. |

2nd (3) (12/1 -50%) Sporty Jim |
12/1(-50%) | (3) Sporty Jim 12/1, Scored at Perth in April, 2022. Only twice raced since and pulled up in handicap hurdle at Haydock (24.3f, heavy) 38 days ago. Others appeal more. Below best since returning from a long absence but return to better ground could be a plus. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (15/8 +6%) Top Cloud |
15/8(+6%) | (7) Top Cloud 15/8, Much improved for new yard after wind surgery, making it 4 wins in 5 starts at Ascot (3m) last month. Raised another 6 lb but form been franked so there could easily be more to come. Player. Four wins from five starts for this yard, the wins coming on good or good to firm. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (25/1 -79%) Breaking Waves |
25/1(-79%) | (6) Breaking Waves 25/1, Untrustworthy individual for Harry Whittington and hasn't made any sort of impact in a pair of starts since joining current yard. First-time visor replaces blinkers. Well handicapped on late-2022 form but has struggled on both outings this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (17/2 -31%) Royal Pretender |
17/2(-31%) | (1) Royal Pretender 17/2, Relatively unexposed over staying trips and returned with good second at Exeter only to be pulled up at Wincanton last time. Needs to get back on track. Uncharacteristic flop at Wincanton in December but good 2nd previously; could bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (9/1 +25%) South Terrace |
9/1(+25%) | (5) South Terrace 9/1, Landed a 23.3f Uttoxeter handicap hurdle in July 2021 but lightly raced since, remote second of five at Warwick on his chasing bow in November. Needs to back it up returned to this sphere. Below best in autumn 2022 and off since; however, well treated on old form; check betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (11/2 -83%) Blue Bikini |
11/2(-83%) | (2) Blue Bikini 11/2, 6/1, career best when winning 5-runner handicap hurdle at Catterick (25.3f, good to soft) 49 days ago. Up 4 lb but this course winner had something to spare there so can go well again. In-and-out profile but four wins from last six starts and has to be respected. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
BLUE BIKINI got back on track with an emphatic victory at Catterick in December, taking her record over hurdles to five wins from 10. A subsequent 4lb rise does not look beyond Fergal O'Brien's mare and she gets the nod. Top Cloud goes in search of his hat-trick following wins at Taunton and Ascot. He merits the utmost respect, as does Hashtag Boum, who should not be far away having occupied the runner-up spot on her last two starts.
TOP CLOUD has thrived under the tutelage of Robbie Llewellyn so is fancied to bag a fifth success of the season with the form of his recent Ascot victory having been franked. Hashtag Boum is weighted to have a say and next on the list- with course scorer Blue Bikini also in the picture.
Preference is for HASHTAG BOUM, who is compiling a solid record in handicaps and could be suited by today's extra yardage.

1st (5) (13/8 +46%) Merry Monty |
13/8(+46%) | (5) Merry Monty 13/8, Series of respectable efforts in handicap hurdles was followed by a solid chase debut second to Bolsover Bill (winner again since) at Exeter (19.2f, heavy) on New Year's Day. 3 lb rise for that effort fair enough and he's open to improvement in this sphere. Finished well for second on chasing debut but today's much faster ground may not be ideal. |

2nd (11) (33/1 +34%) Sevenofus |
33/1(+34%) | (11) Sevenofus 33/1, Point winner who was placed in a series of handicap hurdles at around 2½m in 2022. However, she was never in the hunt following 15 months off here in January and looks set for another struggle now switched to fences. Soundly beaten over hurdles on stable debut; has quite a bit to prove on chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (25/1 -150%) Tonto Foley |
25/1(-150%) | (9) Tonto Foley 25/1, Equipped with a first-time tongue strap when winning 6-runner handicap hurdle at Southwell (15.8f, good) last June. However, he was pulled up at Uttoxeter the following month and opposable on this return/chase debut. Hurdle winner last June; open to more improvement over fences but has fitness to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (9/1 +36%) Poet's Reflection |
9/1(+36%) | (8) Poet's Reflection 9/1, Sole success from 22 starts overall came in a handicap hurdle here back in March 2021. However, she was placed twice off higher marks than this over fences last spring and is entitled to come on for her reappearance spin at Wincanton in December. Safely held over hurdles, after a break, but made good start to chase career last spring. |

5th (7) (20/1 -25%) Blue Ribbon |
20/1(-25%) | (7) Blue Ribbon 20/1, Fair 2m hurdles winner for Dr Richard Newland in 2021 but largely struggled in half-a-dozen appearances over fences for present connections. Pulled up last month, after a break, but today's faster ground ought to be more suitable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (150/1 -127%) Invincible Wish |
150/1(-127%) | (10) Invincible Wish 150/1, Veteran who was tailed off when returning from an 18-month absence at Leicester. Readily passed over. Tailed off over hurdles last month, after a long absence; current ability hard to gauge. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (13) (12/1 +64%) Noah's Light |
12/1(+64%) | (13) Noah's Light 12/1, Hasn't shown much in 7 runs in this sphere and best watched from 5 lb out of the handicap. Hurdle winner in Ireland in November 2021 but very disappointing for this stable since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (13/2 -63%) Herecomeshogan |
13/2(-63%) | (4) Herecomeshogan 13/2, Dual hurdles winner who, equipped with a first-time visor, stepped up on previous efforts in this sphere when finding just one too good in a 13-runner Hereford handicap (2m, good to soft). Definite chance off the same mark here, provided he's able to back that up. Arrested decline with good run in defeat at Hereford last month; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) (80/1 -21%) Broadoak |
80/1(-21%) | (12) Broadoak 80/1, Pulled up on each of his last 4 outings and can only be watched at present. Pulled up in four consecutive handicap chases since last spring and now 0-12 overall. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (2) (5/1 -82%) Our Nel |
5/1(-82%) | (2) Our Nel 5/1, Made the frame all 3 starts over hurdles and positive start in this sphere when third in a 7-runner Fakenham handicap (21.2f, heavy) in December. 1 lb lower now and, moreover, she will benefit from this drop back in trip. One to consider. Low-mileage mare; third behind two next-time-out winners on chasing debut; good chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (17/2 -42%) Howyouplaythegame |
17/2(-42%) | (6) Howyouplaythegame 17/2, Looked limited over hurdles but has fared better since switched to the larger obstacles, posting his best effort yet when a close third at Doncaster on penultimate start. Not in the same form at Leicester since but each-way claims in a first-time tongue strap here. Good third on seasonal debut and subsequent lesser effort on heavy ground is forgivable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (14) (8/1 +60%) Etincelle Artiste |
8/1(+60%) | (14) Etincelle Artiste 8/1, Runner-up sole start in points but just poor form under Rules and work to do from out of the handicap. 0-8 under rules but has each-way claims if judged on last May's Worcester third. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (50/1 +0%) No Mean Feat |
50/1(+0%) | (3) No Mean Feat 50/1, Pulled up sole start in points and just poor form to over hurdles. Big step forward needed now switched to fences. A well-beaten outsider in all three handicap hurdles; makes chasing debut today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Preference is for MERRY MONTY, who shaped with significant promise on last month's fencing bow. That form has since been franked, with the winner going on to record a comfortable success next time out, so Chris Down's charge looks to hold every chance of going one better. Our Nel appeals as a likely candidate having finished a creditable third at Fakenham in December. Howyouplaythegame has shown signs of ability over the larger obstacles and the application of a first-time tongue-tie could spark some improvement.
MERRY MONTY pulled clear of the rest when runner-up on his debut over fences at Exeter and, with the winner going in again since, that form looks decent. Chris Down's charge may well go one better here if, as expected, he is able to build on that. Herecomeshogan is by no means certain to reproduce the form of his latest Hereford effort but he'll certainly be a threat if able to do so, while Our Nel is third choice ahead of Howyouplaythegame and Trapista.
The pick is lightly raced mare OUR NEL, who drops back in trip after finishing third behind two subsequent winners on her chase debut.

1st (8) (9/2 +0%) Concetto |
9/2(+0%) | (8) Concetto 9/2, Proved a totally different proposition sent chasing last season, scoring on handicap debut at Huntingdon before following up at Musselburgh. Form has dipped since, however, tried in headgear/tongue strap this term. Fair sixth in Lincolnshire National here last time and that form is working out well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (7/2 +36%) Mixedwave |
7/2(+36%) | (10) Mixedwave 7/2, Scored at Market Rasen (disqualified for rider's overuse of whip) before posting a good second of 5 in handicap chase there (23.9f, heavy) next time. Proved he's still getting better when resuming winning ways at Huntingdon last month and must enter calculations. Won at Huntingdon last month and this progressive 7yo also likes this C&D; key player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (16/5 +51%) Inflexible |
16/5(+51%) | (6) Inflexible 16/5, Jumped much better than previously over fences and duly showed much-improved form in this sphere when runner-up at Hereford last month. Could have more to come still so looks a big player. Runner-up at Hereford last month on third chase start and open to further improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (14/1 -27%) Jar Du Desert |
14/1(-27%) | (7) Jar Du Desert 14/1, Showed fairly useful form over hurdles for Tom George prior to making a successful chasing debut in a 4-y-o event at Auteuil for N. George & A. Zetterholm in May. However, has failed to see his race out in couple of starts over hurdles/fences for present yard. Good bit to prove at present. Won in good style on chase debut in France last May, but below that level in Britain since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (11/1 -83%) Geryville |
11/1(-83%) | (3) Geryville 11/1, Winless last season but he kept his form well and resumed with a solid fourth in handicap chase at Sedgefield (29f) in October. Poor effort here on Boxing Day, however, and needs to bounce back. Pulled up here last time but second in this last year and he's a contender if back on song. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (4/1 +27%) Scene One |
4/1(+27%) | (5) Scene One 4/1, Hurdles winner last term and, following a 7-month break, he made a successful start over fences at Fakenham (21.2f, soft) in November. Quickly resumed winning ways fitted with this headgear here 4 weeks ago and player if seeing out this longer trip. Two wins from his three chase starts; progressive and every chance he'll stay this far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (14/1 -155%) Easy Bucks |
14/1(-155%) | (4) Easy Bucks 14/1, Better than ever returning from 15 months off when making a winning debut for John Joseph Hanlon at Punchestown 23 days ago, forging clear. Player if this doesn't come too soon back with former yard. Won last month on sole outing for Shark Hanlon; respected back with Peter Bowen. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (18/1 -64%) Jimmy The Digger |
18/1(-64%) | (2) Jimmy The Digger 18/1, Pulled up on his final outing last season (bled). Shaping well before an unfortunate unseat on return at Aintree but not in same form next 2 starts. Still, he can't be dismissed from easing mark down in class. Has dropped down the weights but merely fifth the last twice and needs something more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (25/1 +62%) Song Of Earth |
25/1(+62%) | (9) Song Of Earth 25/1, A three-time winner for Margaret Mullins in Ireland but he's yet to offer much in 4 runs for his current yard. Three wins in Ireland but he's struggled to get competitive in Britain on last four starts. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Scene One was said to have been unsuited by heavy ground when pulled up at Fakenham in December, but Lucy Wadham's charge put that blip behind him when winning over 2m3f here last month. A 5lb rise could underestimate the gelding, but EASY BUCKS bolted up at Punchestown on his latest outing and he might be hard to beat with any further progress. Others to note include Geryville and Huntingdon scorer Mixedwave.
INFLEXIBLE is getting the hang of things over fences now and his much-improved second at Hereford last month appeals as solid form, so he's taken to go one place better. Mixedwave and Scene One are both going the right way and are feared.
Bottomweight MIXEDWAVE continues to improve and, having shown that he's suited by C&D, can follow up last month's win at Huntingdon.

1st (2) (1/2 +45%) Golden Ace |
1/2(+45%) | (2) Golden Ace 1/2, Fairly useful in bumpers (runner-up in Grade 2 on final outing) and, on the back of a breathing operation, created a favourable impression in seeing off a couple of above-average winners on her hurdling debut here (19f) 29 days ago. Looks sure to progress and the one to beat under a penalty. 2nd in Grade 2 Aintree bumper; won hurdling debut here (2m3f, soft) after wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (16/1 -100%) Linda Moon |
16/1(-100%) | (8) Linda Moon 16/1, Bumper winner who did better with her hurdling debut under her belt when third of 14 in a novice at Doncaster (16.6f, soft) 27 days ago, headed run-in having looked in control 2 out. More needed for win purposes. Significant ability in bumpers and over hurdles; a bit more would give major place claims. |

3rd (1) (9/2 -35%) Manimole |
9/2(-35%) | (1) Manimole 9/2, Stood up well to a pretty busy 2023, proving better than ever when landing a substandard listed event at Newbury in December. 12/1(-85%) | (3) Brendas Asking 12/1, Showed ability in points/bumpers and built on hurdling promise when fourth of 10 in a novice at Kempton (16f, good to soft) 24 days ago. May do better still. Has raised her game switched to hurdling but needs another marked step forward to win this. |

Below that level both starts over hurdles, however, looking short of pace when 23 lengths fourth of 11 to Manimole at Newbury on most recent outing. Improvement needed. Just over 3l behind Golden Ace in Grade 2 bumper; well below that form both hurdle starts. |

Second, albeit well held behind Dysart Enos in the Grade 2 mares' bumper at Aintree last season, GOLDEN ACE was able to make an immediate impact when sent over hurdles here last month. Jeremy Scott's charge must shoulder a penalty, but that might not be enough to stop her with improvement on the cards. Four-time hurdles winner Manimole might not have the same potential that some of these do, but she merits respect at this level, while Linda Moon is the most appealing of the remainder.
GOLDEN ACE saw off a pair of above-average winners in ready fashion on her hurdling debut here last month and is selected to defy a penalty with improvement on the cards. Brendas Asking built on her first effort in this sphere when fourth at Kempton recently and may do better still, with Imperious Star a respected newcomer.
Manimole should fare a lot better than on her latest start but gives 4lb to GOLDEN ACE who is readily preferred.

Runner-up sole start in Irish points and newcomers from yard often fancied, but she's pitched in pretty deep here. Runner-up in a point on sole start; tough task on rules debut but she brings potential. |

11/2(+0%) | (4) Listentoyourheart 11/2, Out of a dual bumper winner and got on top close home when making a winning start at Sedgefield. No backward step when 3¾ lengths second to Avakate in listed bumper at Doncaster since and, now 7 lb better off with that rival, she has to enter calculations. No match for Avakate when second at Doncaster but can give another good account. |

10/1(-25%) | (7) Sunset Marquesa 10/1, Related to winners and made a successful start herself at Aintree in October. Shaped like a stayer when fourth to Baby Kate in this grade at Cheltenham the following month. Good Listed fourth at Cheltenham in November but others possess stronger form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (15/8 -7%) Park Princess |
15/8(-7%) | (8) Park Princess 15/8, Half-sister to 4 winners and more than lived up to market expectations (sent off 2/1 favourite) when landing a big-field Newbury bumper (16.3f, heavy) in good style in December. Potentially very useful and she's probably the one to beat. Well backed and impressive on last month's debut at Newbury; could play a leading role. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (10/3 +26%) Avakate |
10/3(+26%) | (1) Avakate 10/3, Off the mark at the second attempt in Irish bumpers for Andy Slattery and improved again when seeing off Listentoyourheart and 11 others in a listed contest on debut for new connections at Doncaster (16.6f, good to soft). Penalty to carry but she's clearly useful. Ready Listed win at Doncaster last month; 7lb penalty but strong claims. |

14/1(-87%) | (2) Audacious Annie 14/1, Half-sister to numerous winners and justified strong market support when making a successful debut in a Wetherby bumper (2m, heavy) at the end of November. Easy to pick holes in that form, though, and she's probably biting off more than she can chew up in grade here. Won on debut at Wetherby; half-sister to yard's star mare You Wear It Well; good prospect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (66/1 -100%) Simply Belle |
66/1(-100%) | (9) Simply Belle 66/1, Has made the frame on each of her 3 starts in bumpers to date, doing more than enough to suggest that she'll be winning one before long. However, she's likely to find this company much too hot. Has shown ability but not enough to suggest she'll make a serious impact today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
PARK PRINCESS created a big impression when winning by 10 lengths on her racecourse debut at Newbury in December and the daughter of Walk In The Park is hard to oppose as a result. Avakate got the better of Listentoyourheart (second) in a similar event at Doncaster last time and another good run can be expected from Alan King's mare. Others to note are Northern Air and Diva Luna.
It was hard not to be impressed by the way PARK PRINCESS quickened away from her rivals at Newbury and, with the promise of better to come, she can take this step up in class in her stride. Avakate did the job well when seeing off Listentoyourheart at Doncaster and there shouldn't be much between them on these terms. Northern Air, an easy winner of her sole start between the flags, is an intriguing candidate for last year's winning yard, too.
Having travelled supremely well when winning a Listed mares' bumper at Doncaster in December, AVAKATE is taken to defy a penalty.

16/5(-7%) | (3) Sure Touch 16/5, Had a productive 2022 over hurdles, winning 4 times, and better form when off the mark at the third attempt over fences at Uttoxeter before Christmas. Back up in trip now but stayed this far over hurdles. Has to be taken seriously up only 2 lb. Has taken well to fences this season and was nudged up only 2lb for his win in December. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/1 -100%) Magic Saint |
9/1(-100%) | (2) Magic Saint 9/1, Off the mark in hunters at Wincanton (20.2f) in March before finding his stamina stretched at Aintree (21.1f). Seemed amiss back in open company at Newton Abbot when last seen in June but not taken lightly off a tempting mark. Not seen since a poor run last June but has slipped to a very dangerous mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (11/4 +21%) Stormy Flight |
11/4(+21%) | (4) Stormy Flight 11/4, Has gradually worked his way back to form this season and took advantage of a drop in the weights in 4-runner event at Exeter 8 weeks ago. Won a similar event over this C&D a year ago so must be respected. Back in good form with Exeter win in December; also well suited by this C&D; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (7/1 +0%) Love Actually |
7/1(+0%) | (7) Love Actually 7/1, Hurdles/chase winner around here who added to her tally at Kempton (3m) 12 months ago. Lightly raced since and she failed to build on her reappearance run when pulled up at Wincanton (25f) over Christmas. Return to this venue may help. Pulled up last time but back on a good mark now and return to this track is a big plus. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (7/2 +42%) Neon Moon |
7/2(+42%) | (1) Neon Moon 7/2, Strong traveller who returned better than ever to open his account over fences in handicap at Ludlow (23.8f) in October. Tame finishes since, however, markedly so at Newbury latest. Disappointed last time but has conditions to suit and is on a good mark; can't rule out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (7/1 +0%) Quoi De Neuf |
7/1(+0%) | (5) Quoi De Neuf 7/1, Returned to winning ways in 4-runner handicap chase at Fakenham (21.2f) in June and dispelled pair of lesser efforts when second at Catterick (19.2f) in November. Added to patchy record when well held at Ludlow since. Ran well two starts and and is suited by this track but has become unreliable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (18/1 -157%) Bridge North |
18/1(-157%) | (6) Bridge North 18/1, Fairly useful hurdler who made a winning start over fences in 3-runner handicap chase at Newbury (23.4f, soft) in March. Disappointing since, however. Won on chasing debut last March but yet to get going this season. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
SURE TOUCH was a narrow winner over 2m4f at Uttoxeter shortly before Christmas and the step back up in trip could help him to defy a 2lb rise in the ratings here. Stormy Flight also won on his most recent outing and could prove to be the main threat to the selection, ahead of Quoi De Neuf and Neon Moon.
SURE TOUCH was prolific over hurdles last season and is already better over fences this term, scoring with a bit more in hand than the bare margin suggests at Uttoxeter last time. He's taken to defy a 2 lb rise at the main expense of the back-to-form Stormy Flight and the returning Magic Saint.
There is more to come from SURE TOUCH (nap), who was nudged up only 2lb for winning a tactical race at Uttoxeter in December.

1st (1) (9/1 -29%) Breakdance Kid |
9/1(-29%) | (1) Breakdance Kid 9/1, Unpromising in points but showed ability over hurdles and shaped better than the distance beaten suggests when fourth on chasing debut at Musselburgh (20.3f, soft). 3 lb lower here and improvement should be forthcoming. Improvement needed now up in trip but this lightly raced 6yo could have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (9/4 +32%) Monaghan Boy |
9/4(+32%) | (7) Monaghan Boy 9/4, Remains a maiden following 14 starts overall but has finished second twice from 3 runs in this sphere, including last time at Catterick (25.2f, soft) where he had Benny Baloo behind. 1 lb nudge fair enough and reproduction of that effort would give him every chance. 0-14 but runner-up the last twice and a first win could be imminent. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (3/1 -9%) Benny Baloo |
3/1(-9%) | (5) Benny Baloo 3/1, Just poor form over hurdles but much better since sent chasing, off the mark in comfortable fashion over C&D on Boxing Day. Came up short at Catterick since but that wasn't a bad effort and he'll be a player granted a good round of jumping. Impressed over C&D in December; only fifth at Catterick but may yet be capable of better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (5/1 +23%) Flemen's Tipple |
5/1(+23%) | (2) Flemen's Tipple 5/1, Runner-up 3 times from 5 starts in handicap hurdles, including at Plumpton (25f, soft) recently. Needs to pull out a little more now switched to fences but that's not impossible and he's one to consider. Chase debut; good second over hurdles last time and his dam was best known as a chaser. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (10/3 +17%) Elleon |
10/3(+17%) | (4) Elleon 10/3, Yet to win over jumps but is as consistent as they come and has returned to action this season with another couple of solid efforts in defeat. Has undergone a wind op since his latest start and likely to be on the premises once again. Hard to win with but admirably consistent and good chance he'll be thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (16/1 -14%) Chic Avenue |
16/1(-14%) | (6) Chic Avenue 16/1, Modest at best in bumpers/over hurdles and well beaten on chase debut when last seen in November. Things may click at some point but she was tailed off on her chase debut in November. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
FLEMEN'S TIPPLE bounced back to form when second over 3m1f at Plumpton last time and he could go one better on his chase debut off 2lb higher. Elleon is a consistent performer who has to be of interest following a wind operation since his latest second at Catterick in December. Monaghan Boy edges out Furkash to be best of the rest.
BENNY BALOO was behind Monaghan Boy at Catterick but he is of strong interest returned to the scene of his stylish breakthrough success during the Christmas period, which was his sole previous appearance on a right-hand track under Rules. Monaghan Boy has improved with each of his three runs over fences and is likely to be involved in the finish, along with the consistent Elleon. Chase-debutant Flemen's Tipple is also considered in a race iwhere pretty much all seven have a chance.
Today could be the day for ELLEON. He has been frustrating to follow but his form reads very well in today's context.

12/1(+0%) | (10) Mammies Boy 12/1, Promise in maiden/novice hurdles to start 2023 but disappointing start to his career his handicaps, weakening quickly when backed at Hereford in November. Placed twice last January but struggled badly this term in his three handicaps (2m/2m3f). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (13/2 -63%) Stanley Pincombe |
13/2(-63%) | (2) Stanley Pincombe 13/2, Consistent sort who resumed winning ways in 9-runner handicap hurdle over 20.5f at Plumpton in November. Off since and raised 5 lb in the interim but he's in excellent hands. Won over C&D last March and at Plumpton (2m4f) in November latest; has never been better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (14) (40/1 +20%) Battle March |
40/1(+20%) | (14) Battle March 40/1, Small-field novice winner at Exeter in October 2021 bit lightly raced since and doesn't appear to retain that much ability. Accomplished little in his three handicaps, on softer than good and with two long absences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (7/1 +50%) Lelant |
7/1(+50%) | (4) Lelant 7/1, Some promise in maiden/novice hurdles and improved at the second time of asking in handicaps when going down only narrowly over C&D in November. Shaped as though still in good form when fifth at Hereford since. Beaten a head over C&D (good) in November; ran creditably latest but needs to find extra. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (16/1 -129%) Just Go For It |
16/1(-129%) | (9) Just Go For It 16/1, Dual winner over 21f at Wincanton last March, Heavy defeat at Warwick in May and off 9 months after but she gave it a really good go when third at Hereford. Veteran needs to back that run up. 11yo; won twice at Wincanton last March and back-to-form third at Hereford on latest start. |

6th (16) (28/1 +15%) Whynotnowroy |
28/1(+15%) | (16) Whynotnowroy 28/1, Third in a bumper at Wincanton but yet to make a significant impact over hurdles. Opposable from out of the weights. Hasn't got near debut form, including in two handicaps; now hooded; 9lb out of handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (16/5 +4%) Gyllen |
16/5(+4%) | (3) Gyllen 16/5, Smart on the Flat at one time and revived for Kayley Woollacott, winning twice at this venue before completing the hat-trick at Sandown 11 days ago. Was perhaps a shade fortunate last time but he remains of firm interest up 5 lb. On four-timer; raised another 5lb but this resurgent 9yo must be in serious calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (12/1 -33%) Always Busy |
12/1(-33%) | (7) Always Busy 12/1, Caused a 66/1 surprise when making his second hurdles start a winning one at Warwick (2m) last November. Hasn't been able to repeat that effort since but his mark has come down a long way as a result. Prominent in betting last twice; 15lb lower than handicap debut but needs to up his game. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (16/1 -129%) Gieves |
16/1(-129%) | (8) Gieves 16/1, Hooded for first time and career best when winning 2m novice hurdle at Worcester in September. Held back by jumping back in a handicap at that venue a month later and given a break since. Hooded last two runs, coming from rear to win a 2m maiden and fair 4th in a 2m4f handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (1) (12/1 +14%) Halligator |
12/1(+14%) | (1) Halligator 12/1, Made a winning start over hurdles in a Uttoxeter maiden in June 2022 and runner-up next 2 starts. Lightly raced subsequently and raced too freely following 5 months off/wind op at Warwick (21f, heavy) in November. Absent since. 2nd last April; yet to match that display; particularly disappointing in November latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (13) (66/1 -164%) Hour Star |
66/1(-164%) | (13) Hour Star 66/1, Runner-up on the first of 2 starts in bumpers last season. Has looked a very hard ride in his qualifying runs so comes with clear risks attached now handicapping. Hooded. Has not achieved a great deal; handicap debut, over a longer trip and hooded first time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (6) (6/1 -33%) Commanding View |
6/1(-33%) | (6) Commanding View 6/1, Some promise in 2 bumper outings and progressed with each start over hurdles, making a successful switch to handicaps at Plumpton (2m, good to soft) in December, battling well to shade a tight finish. 5 lb higher in a better race but could have more to offer over this trip. Up 5lb after Plumpton 2m win on handicap debut; also up in trip, which may well suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (5) (15/2 +63%) Sea Village |
15/2(+63%) | (5) Sea Village 15/2, Fair form shown last term but off 8 months and pulled up both starts back to end 2023. Since had wind surgery. Progressive last season but pulled up this term in his two handicaps; wind surgery since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (15) (10/1 +50%) Prince Rhinegold |
10/1(+50%) | (15) Prince Rhinegold 10/1, Stepped up on reappearance effort when creditable fifth of 10 in handicap hurdle over C&D in November, finishing with running left. 2 lb lower now and is not out of things. Back to form over C&D latest but that was good enough for only fifth of ten; work to do. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (125/1 -279%) Chadlington Lad |
125/1(-279%) | (11) Chadlington Lad 125/1, Modest maiden hurdler who ended last term with a good second at Huntingdon (2m) in March for Ben Pauling. Had a wind op and finished well held starting out for new yard in December. 0-11 (four seconds) over hurdles for Ben Pauling and soundly beaten on debut for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (125/1 -89%) Meranti |
125/1(-89%) | (12) Meranti 125/1, Mid-field both starts over hurdles in Ireland and signed off time for Stuart Crawford with fourth-place finish in a bumper in May. Little to shout about in 4 appearances for new yard, though and hopes rest on application of headgear. His form looks none too solid; now has tongue-tie and cheekpieces, both for the first time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Gyllen has to be of interest having racked up a hat-trick in recent months, but marginal preference is for STANLEY PINCOMBE. Chris Gordon's gelding beat a decent field at Plumpton when last seen in November and a 5lb rise for that success appears to be fair. Commanding View is another last-time-out winner to consider, while Just Go For It also makes the shortlist.
Quite a few to consider but the revival of one-time smart Flat performer GYLLEN shows no sign of abating so he's selected to overcome his latest rise in the weights and complete the 4-timer. Commanding View and Stanley Pincombe also won last time and head the opposition, with Lelant one to consider at longer odds.
The last-time-out winners look the ones to focus on, with unexposed COMMANDING VIEW preferred to Gyllen and Stanley Pincombe.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
CRYSTAL GUARD had been in decent form prior to a below-par showing at Newcastle but, should he bounce back, Iain Jardine's charge might be worth chancing. Send In The Clouds is unproven at this trip but there have been signs that it could suit the son of Delegator. With that in mind, he must enter the reckoning along with Easter Icon, who was perhaps unsuited by heavy ground at Bath in October and has switched stables since.
EAGLE'S REALM (declared 19.30 Southwell Monday) was too free when unable to complete the 4-timer at Newcastle 2 weeks ago but the drop back in trip will suit and he remains of plenty of interest. Easter Icon did well last season and is starting out for an in-form yard, so rates the main threat ahead of the veteran Grandee, who's dropping in class.
The form pick in a weak race is EAGLE'S REALM, who was due to run yesterday. On Cloud is second choice.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Not a particularly strong contest, in which a chance can be taken on DARK ENIGMA. A creditable third in a C&D maiden in December, she could progress now sent handicapping and an opening mark of 56 would appear to be fair. Smooth Silesie can give another good account of herself eased 2lb in the ratings, having finished third at Southwell on her first appearance for the Lisa Williamson stable. Jungle Dance can chase the pair home.
JUNGLE DANCE continues in form and might be able to open his account now. Dark Enigma shouldn't be far away if able to build on her latest improved effort and Toosha would also be in with a shout if able to get back on track for her new yard.
This weak race may be the right opportunity for JUNGLE DANCE to break his duck. Toosha and Clionia need a market check.

200/1(-400%) | (7) Above The Line 200/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Last of 8 in handicap (50/1) at this course (9.5f) 11 days ago. Hard to weight up at present. Ex-Irish; fair third in a C&D maiden on stable debut but well beaten on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (6/1 -20%) Kingwell |
6/1(-20%) | (8) Kingwell 6/1, C&D winner. One win from 21 Flat runs. Creditable second of 10 in handicap at Chelmsford City (10f, 7/2) 19 days ago. Visor back on and he's likely to give it another good go. 1-21; two good runs this year, finishing fourth over C&D on first occasion; a possible. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
TONAL caught the eye when staying on into third from off the pace at Chelmsford last month, and the unexposed son of Siyouni could step forward from an unchanged mark. A slow start didn't help Panama City's chances at Newcastle, but he struck over C&D prior to that and it would come as no surprise were he to bounce back. Harbour Vision, who hit the woodwork over an extended 1m1f here recently, is also noted.
LOCAL MUSIC took her form to a new level when second over C&D in December and this lightly-raced 4-y-o has plenty to recommend her. Panama City gave a good account of himself from the front at Newcastle last time and that puts him right in the mix, with course regular Harbour Vision another of interest.
The unexposed TONAL was a good third on handicap debut at Chelmsford and, with improvement to come, is taken to beat Local Music.

7/1(+13%) | (5) Heat Of Passion 7/1, Twice-raced filly and better effort when fourth of 9 in maiden at Newcastle (8f) 18 days ago. May do better still. Fair form so far but a bit to find with Crimson Coronet on her run at Newcastle last time.. |

250/1(-67%) | (4) Hannahs Story 250/1, Twice-raced filly. 250/1, ninth of 10 in maiden at Kempton (7f) 15 days ago. Up in trip with work to do. Modest form at big prices in her two runs to date; would be a surprise winner. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
CRIMSON CORONET built on her debut fifth at Kempton when beating all bar a well-bred, well-supported newcomer at Newcastle. Connections will hope that she meets nothing of that calibre here, and her experience can help her to make it third-time lucky. Pilgrim Of Culture was back in third in that Kempton contest, and her trainer Karl Burke also saddles Alpine Oasis. The daughter of Oasis Dream is joined by another interesting first-timer in the James Fanshawe-trained Moonlight Express, who made 85,000gns as a yearling.
Charlie Fellowes' Zoustar filly CRIMSON CORONET possesses much the best form on offer so is taken to get off the mark at the third attempt. Newcomers Alpine Oasis and Night of Desire both offer potential and need considering, especially if the market vibes are positive, along with Roger Varian's once-raced Orchard Keeper.
In a tricky contest the choice is CRIMSON CORONET who ran well enough at Newcastle last time to suggest she can with a race like this.

BEAUZON bursting into life has coincided with Charlie Bishop taking over the reins and the pair have teamed up to strike three times here since the turn of the year, with David Probert also tasting success on the Ian Williams-trained five-year-old. It is very difficult to oppose him while in such good form and the five-timer is on. Gustav Graves is holding his form well and should be in the thick of the action once more. Maharajas Express and New Hope Bullet aren't out of it either.
GLORY FIGHTER wasn't seen to best effect at Newcastle last time so is worth another chance to build on his promise there from the time before having eased another 3 lb. Maharajas Express shaped as if still in form when missing the break at Lingfield last time and remains unexposed as a sprinter, so rates a big threat along with the thriving Beauzon, who's bidding for a 5-timer here.
With the penalised Beauzon possibly vulnerable at this shorter trip the vote goes to C&D winner MAHARAJAS EXPRESS.

4th (3) (5/1 +38%) Global Warning |
5/1(+38%) | (3) Global Warning 5/1, C&D winner. Latest win (landed gamble) here in December. Below form sixth of 11 in handicap (20/1) at Kempton (6f) 27 days ago, never nearer. The market tends to be the best predictor when it comes to how he's likely to run. Won with plenty to spare over C&D in December; enters calculations back here. |

5th (4) (7/2 -5%) Pessoa |
7/2(-5%) | (4) Pessoa 7/2, 3-time C&D winner. Latest win here in January. Creditable second of 10 in handicap (7/4) at this C&D 21 days ago, no match for winner. Not taken lightly. Latest effort took his C&D form figures to 12112; very solid contender. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Berkshire Phantom has to be respected following his win over C&D on Saturday, but a 5lb penalty is a concern. With that in mind, marginal preference is for PESSOA, who won twice over this track and trip before filling second place here last time. A reproduction of any of those efforts would give him a big chance in this company, while Dynamic Talent and Candy Warhol are also noted.
BERKSHIRE PHANTOM confirmed himself back on song when winning in good style here on Saturday and should take plenty of stopping under a penalty. Pessoa was unlucky to bump into one when bidding for the hat-trick over C&D 3 weeks ago but it may be the same story again. Dynamic Talent is best of the others.
Striking while the iron's hot, BERKSHIRE PHANTOM (nap) could well complete a quickfire C&D double. Pessoa is second choice.

2nd (2) (9/2 +68%) Thaki |
9/2(+68%) | (2) Thaki 9/2, C&D winner. Respectable fifth of 12 in handicap (9/1) at Newcastle (6f) 18 days ago. That was more like it and he's below last winning mark. Has regressed and was only fifth at Newcastle last time in a race he won two years earlier. |

3rd (6) (12/1 +40%) El Hombre |
12/1(+40%) | (6) El Hombre 12/1, Three-time C&D winner. Eighth of 10 in handicap (12/1) at Southwell (6.1f) 28 days ago. Needs to cast that run aside. Second to a well-backed winner at Lingfield in November but less convincing twice since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (4/1 +0%) Warminster |
4/1(+0%) | (4) Warminster 4/1, Sixteen runs since last win in 2023. Good neck second of 11 to Alafdhal in handicap at this C&D (7/2) 11 days ago. Another bold bid looks firmly on the cards. Running well and had his pocket picked by Alafdhal over C&D 11 days ago (1lb lower). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (9/4 +32%) El Hibri |
9/4(+32%) | (3) El Hibri 9/4, Won 5-runner handicap at Southwell (6.1f, 10/11) 7 days ago, having run of race. Carries penalty and things unlikely to pan out as well this time but he's still dangerous. Southwell winner last week; bit to find with two of these on his previous visit here. |

6th (9) (15/2 -15%) All In The Hips |
15/2(-15%) | (9) All In The Hips 15/2, C&D winner. Three wins from 18 runs last year. 13/2, won 7-runner handicap at Chelmsford City (6f) 19 days ago. Enters calculations. Came home well at Chelmsford (6f) to earn a fifth career success; up 3lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (7/2 +0%) Dazy Mazy |
7/2(+0%) | (8) Dazy Mazy 7/2, Lightly-raced maiden. Good fourth of 11 in handicap at this C&D (22/1) 25 days ago. Hasn't stood much racing but claims if backing that effort up. One to be interested in after a closing fourth here recently following an absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (12/1 +14%) Hour By Hour |
12/1(+14%) | (1) Hour By Hour 12/1, Denied a clear run when sixth of 9 in handicap at Southwell (6.1f) 12 days ago. Eased 2 lb and dropped in class, too. Racing keenly continues to hold him back and best efforts have been on turf. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
ALL IN THE HIPS has only been raised 3lb for her win over this distance at Chelmsford last month and it would be no surprise to see the four-year-old go in again as a result. Alafdhal (first) and Warminster (second) are closely matched based on their meeting over C&D recently and they are likely to go well once again, while El Hibri is next best.
Stall 11 doesn't make things easy for ALAFDHAL but a very experienced jockey is on and a 2 lb rise for his C&D win 11 days ago is very fair. Warminster was runner-up in that race and may give the selection most to think about again, with All In The Hips another in-form runner to consider.
The key race could be the recent C&D handicap in which ALAFDHAL got up late in the day to deny Warminster and El Hibri.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
