1st (5) ![]() Broderick |
7/2(-40%) | (5) Broderick 7/2, Progressing over hurdles and while he failed to justify strong support when runner-up in maiden at Sedgefield (16.8f, good to soft) 3 weeks ago, he did come a long way clear with the winner. However, he didn't look the most willing that day but certainly worth another chance. Close second at Sedgefield on Boxing Day and he is a leading player on that form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) ![]() Zephlyn |
33/1(+0%) | (11) Zephlyn 33/1, Fair on Flat and looks a handicap project judged on both efforts over timber so far. Arrives fit from a close fifth of 11 at Newcastle (16.2f) on the level last month and market support should be noted. Two AW wins (2m) on the Flat but he's been well held in both hurdle runs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) ![]() Buzz Iceclear |
33/1(+0%) | (6) Buzz Iceclear 33/1, Sea Moon gelding. Dam, modest hurdler (stayed 23f), from family of useful hurdler/very smart chaser (stayed 25f) Wounded Warrior. Unplaced both starts in Irish points (latest Nov 3). Well held in Irish points in the autumn and is probably best watched on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) ![]() Double Digits |
7/1(+30%) | (7) Double Digits 7/1, Mastercraftsman gelding. Half-brother to fair hurdler Proton. Dam 7f winner. Successful on second of 3 starts in Irish points, leading when fell 3 out next time (Nov 2023). Worth a market check on Rules bow. Irish point winner; back from lengthy layoff but needs checking in market on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) ![]() Kids Say Lastgojoe |
16/1(-146%) | (9) Kids Say Lastgojoe 16/1, Balko gelding who showed benefit of his initial experience and settled better ridden from the front when winning 5-runner bumper at Catterick (15.7f, good to firm) just under 8 weeks ago. Should be up to making his mark now hurdling with Brian Hughes retaining the ride. Made all for 7l win in Catterick bumper in November; needs close look on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) ![]() Always A Reason |
40/1(+0%) | (1) Always A Reason 40/1, Off mark in Irish points at fifth attempt last April and looks a handicap project judged on both efforts over hurdles last month. Point winner who has shown some promise over hurdles but has quite a lot to find here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (12) ![]() Violeta |
80/1(+20%) | (12) Violeta 80/1, Modest maiden handicapper on Flat who offered nothing on hurdling debut at Musselburgh on penultimate start. Again below form back on the level at Newcastle (10.2f) since and can only be watched. Record of 1-25 on the Flat and was tailed off on her only hurdle run; no appeal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (2) ![]() Beau Quali |
1/2(+55%) | (2) Beau Quali 1/2, Runner-up in a juvenile hurdle in France last March (sole start for David Cottin) and has filled the same position on 2 of 3 starts for his current yard, latest in novice at Kempton (16f, good to soft) 3 weeks ago. Every chance he can go one better here. In the frame in all four runs, including when second at Kempton on Boxing Day; key player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|RO| (4) ![]() Bold Jury |
16/1(+20%) | (4) Bold Jury 16/1, Cheap purchase who was placed on his last 3 starts in points and showed a bit when sixth of 14 in maiden hurdle at Uttoxeter (15.8f, heavy) on NH debut last month. Needs to build on that now. Made an encouraging start over hurdles at Uttoxeter (sixth of 14) and he's not ruled out. |
Runner-up to a smart prospect of Nicky Henderson's at Kempton over Christmas, BEAU QUALI looks the one to beat if building upon that career-best effort. The five-year-old already has four hurdles runs under his belt and he can see off Broderick, who might have gone closer at Sedgefield if not for hanging left. An impressive winner when making all in a bumper at Catterick in November, Kids Say Lastgojoe is a player on his debut in this sphere.
Having finished runner-up on 3 of his 4 starts over hurdles so far, BEAU QUALI looks to have been found a good opportunity to open his account at the expense of Broderick, who failed to justify strong support at Sedgefield on Boxing Day but did pull a long way clear of the third. Kids Say Lastgojoe got off the mark second time up in a Catterick bumper a couple of months ago and he can edge out Famous Liss for the bronze medal.
This is a tight call between Beau Quali and BRODERICK but the vote goes to the latter who went close at Sedgefield on Boxing Day.

1st (6) ![]() Springt De La Mare |
2/1(+56%) | (6) Springt De La Mare 2/1, Lightly-raced winner under NH rules. Fairly useful winner at 16f in bumpers. 28/1, respectable third of 17 in novice hurdle at Leopardstown (16f, good) 21 days ago. Makes chase debut and he's much respected. Point/bumper winner, sent chasing now after well-beaten third in a strong maiden hurdle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (13) ![]() Theatre Native |
6/4(+25%) | (13) Theatre Native 6/4, Promising type who came in third of 8 in novice chase at Tipperary (16.4f, soft, 14/1) on debut over fences 55 days ago. This fairly useful winning hurdler holds leading claims. 119-rated hurdles winner, should improve from a competent chase debut at Tipperary. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) ![]() St Faz |
6/1(+0%) | (9) St Faz 6/1, Promising individual. 17/2, creditable 5¼ lengths third of 9 to Balko D'ange in listed handicap at Limerick (16f, soft) 18 days ago. Switches from hurdles to chase. Should have more to offer. Placed in a handicap hurdle at Limerick last time, fair third on chasing debut at Clonmel. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) ![]() Luminous Light |
20/1(-43%) | (5) Luminous Light 20/1, Fairly useful winner at 16f over hurdles. 14/1, fifth of 14 in novice chase at Kilbeggan (20.2f, good to soft) on debut over fences 132 days ago. Respected. Flat/hurdles winner, soundly beaten in fifth on chasing debut at Kilbeggan in September. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) ![]() Starman |
80/1(-100%) | (7) Starman 80/1, Fair chaser. Seventeenth of 23 in handicap hurdle (80/1) at Leopardstown (19.8f, good) 19 days ago. Switches from hurdles to chase. 3-23 over hurdles, chase form not good enough to suggest he can win a race like this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) ![]() Cayd Boy |
20/1(-150%) | (2) Cayd Boy 20/1, Fairly useful hurdler. Eighteen runs since last win in 2020. Respectable third of 7 in novice chase at Limerick (17.7f, soft, 14/1) 21 days ago. No forlorn hope. No shortage of chasing experience, placed six times from 12 starts, appears vulnerable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) ![]() Crecora Hills |
66/1(-65%) | (10) Crecora Hills 66/1, Fair winner at 19f over hurdles. Hooded for 1st time, seventh of 11 in novice chase (12/1) at Tramore (15.5f, heavy) 15 days ago. Handicap hurdle winner last year, first two chase starts imply she will need to get a mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) ![]() American Money |
14/1(+50%) | (1) American Money 14/1, Fairly useful hurdler. 150/1, pulled up in novice chase at Navan (20.7f, soft) on debut over fences 40 days ago, pulled up between last 2. Down in trip. Should still improve. 120-rated hurdler with three wins to his name, huge price when pulled up on chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) ![]() Connors Cross |
12/1(+14%) | (3) Connors Cross 12/1, Lightly-raced winner under NH rules. 40/1 and tongue strap on for 1st time, fourth of 15 in novice chase at Clonmel (17.3f, soft) on debut over fences 44 days ago. Not ruled out. Winning hurdler, creditable fourth on chasing debut on his second run after a long absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (12) ![]() Spanish Maid |
150/1(-200%) | (12) Spanish Maid 150/1, Modest hurdler. Below form fifth of 12 in novice hurdle (14/1) at this course (16f, good) 101 days ago. Makes chase debut. 90-rated maiden hurdler, placed twice, not a likely contender on first chase attempt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (11) ![]() Mount Sinai |
14/1(-211%) | (11) Mount Sinai 14/1, Fairly useful winner at 20f over hurdles. 14/1, encouraging third of 7 in novice chase at Sligo (17.6f, good) on debut over fences 106 days ago. Stable in good form. Well in the mix. Modest hurdles form after a maiden win, third behind a useful stablemate on chase debut. |
SPRINGT DE LA MARE debuts over fences, but has winning point-to-point experience and is in form. A debut point victor, he also showed smart bumper form and while he missed 314 days following a fall last January, he ran well in two recent smart maiden hurdles. Admittedly, he was well held in both but finished ahead of some capable types at Leopardstown over Christmas and drops markedly in grade. Union Station has a mark of 120 over hurdles and while he too makes his chase debut, is more exposed than his stablemate. Mount Sinai is rated 118 over timber and also receives a helpful mares' 7lb, but faces a slightly tougher task than on her chase debut at Sligo.
THEATRE NATIVE shaped well on her first run in this sphere when third at Tipperary and can build on it here and add to her fairly useful hurdling success. Willie Mullins' Mount Sinai also has the form to play a part and is next on the list with St Faz, Springt de La Mare and Cayd Boy in the mix too.
Course maiden hurdle winner THEATRE NATIVE is tipped to build on a satisfactory chasing debut at Tipperary in November

1st (10) ![]() Queens Wish |
8/11(+20%) | (10) Queens Wish 8/11, Shantou mare who was bought for €140,000 after winning sole outing in Irish points and is a half-sister to useful 2m hurdle winner/smart chaser Potters Point and fairly useful hurdler/chaser Slanelough, probably stays 3m. Makes plenty of appeal in a winnable-looking race. Bought for 140,000euros after winning by 6l on Irish point debut last April; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) ![]() Forsa Bay |
7/2(+30%) | (5) Forsa Bay 7/2, Showed more than on hurdling debut when fourth of 8 in novice at Doncaster (19.4f, good to soft) 33 days ago, not knocked about. May do better still. Not beaten far when fourth at Doncaster last month; among the most appealing options here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) ![]() Clondaw Fame |
6/1(+25%) | (2) Clondaw Fame 6/1, Finished fourth in 3 Irish points and having undergone a breathing operation ahead of his belated Rules debut, showed ability while looking a tricky ride with a hood fitted when second of 7 in 2m novice at Ayr in November. Place claims again. Came second on hurdling debut but it was a thin race and the winner did it easily. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) ![]() Isabel De Clare |
11/1(-57%) | (8) Isabel De Clare 11/1, Showed more than in a pair of bumpers when fifth of 10 in maiden hurdle at Wetherby (19.7f, soft, 100/1) on debut in this sphere 21 days ago. That form is just about the best on offer but the drop back in trip isn't sure to suit. Stayed on for fifth on recent hurdling debut at Wetherby and enters calculations here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) ![]() Joto |
40/1(+20%) | (9) Joto 40/1, Is seemingly being brought along with handicaps in mind and needs this for a mark. Not disgraced on first of two hurdling starts but she is not the most obvious answer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) ![]() Blazer Two |
80/1(-220%) | (1) Blazer Two 80/1, Modest handicapper at best on Flat (stays 1½m) who ran to a similar level sent hurdling in a first-time tongue strap after 10 weeks off (had breathing operation) when fourth in 5-runner affair at Market Rasen (16.6f) 3 weeks ago. Made low-key start to hurdling career with well-held fourth at Market Rasen last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) ![]() Snapaudaciaheros |
50/1(+0%) | (11) Snapaudaciaheros 50/1, Just modest form when making the frame all 3 outings in bumpers and made an inauspicious start over hurdles fitted with a hood at Catterick the previous month. Made the frame in all three bumpers but was tailed off at 66-1 on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) ![]() Farmer Jimmy |
33/1(-32%) | (3) Farmer Jimmy 33/1, Type to do better at longer trips in handicaps after this run. Unable to land a telling blow in two 2m Wetherby novice hurdles last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) ![]() Follow The Leader |
400/1(-400%) | (4) Follow The Leader 400/1, Pulled up sole start in points and jumped none too fluently when well held on Sedgefield hurdling debut 3 weeks ago. Struggled to get competitive on last month's rules debut at Sedgefield. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (7) ![]() Rogue Sea |
7/1(-17%) | (7) Rogue Sea 7/1, Fairly useful at best on Flat (stays 11f), well held in handicaps both starts in 2024. Still of some interest on hurdle debut. Hooded. Useful 3yo on the Flat but very disappointing last year; makes stable/hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (6) ![]() Marquee Lights |
400/1(-167%) | (6) Marquee Lights 400/1, Pulled up in 2 maiden hurdles and easily passed over. Pulled up at triple-digit odds on both hurdling starts; can't be recommended. |
The Dan Skelton team has a good record here and point-to-point winner QUEENS WISH could be a smart recruit for the stable. A half-sister to Kerry National winner Potters Point, the six-year-old may have too much for fellow hurdling newcomer Rogue Sea, who was decent on the Flat. Clondaw Fame was a promising second on his timber bow at Ayr in November, with Blazer Two and Forsa Bay capable of being in the shake-up as well.
An ordinary-looking maiden and the one who stands out is QUEENS WISH, who transferred to Dan Skelton's yard for €140,000 after winning her sole outing in Irish points. She can get her Rules career off to the perfect start, with Forsa Bay and Clondaw Fame the pair fancied to give her most to do.
Dan Skelton's QUEENS WISH changed hands for 140,000euros after her Irish point win and makes her rules debut in a modest race.

1st (3) ![]() Clonbury Bridge |
11/2(-22%) | (3) Clonbury Bridge 11/2, Creditable fifth of 10 in handicap chase (13/2) at Navan (16f, good to soft) 32 days ago. Significantly back up in trip. Ought to be thereabouts. Good effort in a handicap chase at Clonmel in October, 2m probably inadequate on latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) ![]() Wine An Dine |
25/1(-79%) | (1) Wine An Dine 25/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Cheekpieces on for 1st time, fifth of 16 in hunter chase at Limerick (22.6f, soft, 22/1) 18 days ago. Blinkers back on. Makes handicap chase debut with more needed. 1-14 in points, should be better for a Limerick run but may find top weight too much. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) ![]() Vaureal |
11/2(+31%) | (2) Vaureal 11/2, Fair winner at 20f over hurdles. Respectable fourth of 11 in novice chase (5/1) at Tramore (15.5f, heavy) 15 days ago. Makes handicap chase debut. Possibilities. Won a 2m4f maiden hurdle at Roscommon last August, novice chase form is unconvincing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) ![]() Walk In Time |
11/1(+39%) | (9) Walk In Time 11/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2023. Modest winner at 24f over hurdles. Tailed-off last of 5 to Ile Atlantique in Grade 2 chase at Naas (16f, heavy, 250/1) 11 days ago. Significantly back up in trip. 90-rated winning hurdler, moderate fifth over 3m1f at Thurles in her first handicap chase. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) ![]() Theonewedreamof |
11/4(+17%) | (4) Theonewedreamof 11/4, 1 win from 3 runs this season. Fair winner at 14f on Flat. 15/2, good fifth of 13 in handicap chase at Cheltenham (20.6f, good to soft) 33 days ago. Likely player at these weights. Jumping was ragged at Cheltenham, a more fluent round should put her firmly in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) ![]() Pipers Boreen |
7/2(+13%) | (5) Pipers Boreen 7/2, Fair winner at 24f over hurdles. Respectable sixth of 12 in handicap chase at Navan (24f, good to soft, 10/3) 32 days ago. Needs considering. Unplaced in a Navan handicap last month, softer ground here might be more suitable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) ![]() Room To Roam |
22/1(-57%) | (8) Room To Roam 22/1, Two wins from 54 NH runs. Below form fourth of 13 in handicap chase at Down Royal (20.6f, good to soft, 12/1) 21 days ago, going in snatches. More is required. Around 20l fourth in Down Royal race in which Tankardstown Diva fell when disputing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) ![]() Tankardstown Diva |
7/1(-27%) | (7) Tankardstown Diva 7/1, Fair winning hurdler. Close up when fell last in handicap chase (9/1) at Down Royal (20.6f, good to soft) on debut over fences 21 days ago. Not taken lightly. Disputing with the eventual winner when falling at the last at Down Royal, good chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) ![]() Jump The Shark |
10/1(-54%) | (6) Jump The Shark 10/1, 1 win from 2 runs this season. Winner in chase at Downpatrick in May. Eleventh of 13 in handicap chase at Punchestown (24.5f, good, 10/3), lame. Off 7 months but still not ruled out. Lame at Punchestown in June after Downpatrick win, might prefer further and better ground. |
JUMP THE SHARK hasn't run since disappointing last June, but had a veterinary excuse then and seems on a favourable rating on his reappearance run, for an in-form yard. His hurdles form was nothing special and his initial chase form was poor, but he was a well-backed winner at Downpatrick last May before returning lame at Punchestown. He lacks a recent run but remains reasonably unexposed. Stablemate Theonewedreamof ran well at Cheltenham last month and while she doesn't look ahead of the handicapper, she should compete. Tankardstown Diva was in contention when falling at the final fence on chase debut at Down Royal on St Stephen's Day, but this looks more competitive.
THEONEWEDREAMOF rates the pick of these weights on the back of her good Cheltenham fifth so gets the vote in this open handicap. Tankardstown Diva should also have a say if none the worse for her late Down Royal fall, while Pipers Boreen and Clonbury Bridge need factoring in too.
With the advantage of race-fitness THEONEWEDREAMOF may have the measure of stablemate Jump The Shark

![]() Celtic Fortune |
(5) 7/2(+22%) | (5) Celtic Fortune 7/2, Fair maiden hurdler who has made an encouraging start over fences, beaten under a length by a progressive type at Wincanton (25f, soft) last time. Remains feasibly treated nudged up 4 lb and may well have a part to play here, too, provided the first-time blinkers have the desired effect. Needs to prove he can get the job done but he went close at Wincanton last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Camulus |
(2) 4/1(-33%) | (2) Camulus 4/1, Off 9 months before returning with an encouraging third of 8 in handicap chase at Lingfield (23.5f, good to soft) in November, fading after 2 out. Weighted to go close off a 2 lb lower mark in his bid for a breakthrough success. Returned from break with encouraging third in strong race at Lingfield and he's respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Get Cracking |
(4) 6/1(+45%) | (4) Get Cracking 6/1, Successful in points and left hurdles form behind sent chasing when fifth of 13 in handicap at Hereford (20.9f, good to soft) last month. Moving back up in trip will help and he's a live each-way contender. Kept on for fifth on handicap/chase debut and firmly in calculations now back up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Anytrixwilldo |
(1) 7/1(+36%) | (1) Anytrixwilldo 7/1, Fair maiden hurdler/chaser but he was pulled up in handicap chase at Market Rasen (23.9f, soft) last month and is opposable on the back of that. Close 4th at Hereford in November in his second chase but pulled up at Market Rasen since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Martalmix'jac |
(7) 8/1(-60%) | (7) Martalmix'jac 8/1, Just 1 lb higher than for his clear-cut victory in a 4-runner Leicester handicap in February and left tame reappearance effort behind when a solid second here (2½m, soft) last month. Moving back up in trip will, if anything, be a good thing and he has to enter calculations. Inconsistent last year but runner-up here last month and could be in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Lelant |
(8) 12/1(+25%) | (8) Lelant 12/1, Fair form without success over hurdles but not so good over fences so far and others make more appeal. 0-17; has struggled in the main this term but there was a hint of encouragement last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Fashion's Model |
(9) 50/1(+24%) | (9) Fashion's Model 50/1, Sent chasing last season, off the mark on final start of the campaign as she landed mares' handicap at Wincanton (20.2f, heavy) in April. No show in a handful of runs so far this term, though, and hopes here pinned on the first-time blinkers sparking a revival. Won off this mark last April but a long way below that level on her four runs this season. |
Having appreciated a return to this course when runner-up in a class 4 event last month, MARTALMIX'JAC makes plenty of appeal racing off the same mark. A drop into class 5 company looks ideal for Mel Rowley's gelding and compensation awaits. A 4lb higher mark shouldn't prevent another good run from Wincanton second Celtic Fortune and he's feared most, ahead of Felton Bellevue.
A first success beckons for CAMULUS, who should come on for his reappearance third behind a couple of bang in-form rivals at Lingfield where he was returning from a nine-month absence. Martalmix'jac put in a good shift here last month and is next on the list ahead of Felton Bellevue, while Celtic Fortune and chase debutante The Midwife also merit respect.
Point winner GET CRACKING shaped on last month's chase debut at Hereford as though he would benefit from this step back up in trip.

![]() Muskoka |
(5) 13/8(+51%) | (5) Muskoka 13/8, Easily got off the mark in 7-runner handicap chase at Hereford (25.2f, soft, 5/2) 26 days ago. Not taken lightly despite a 7 lb hike. Raised 7lb for his 11l Hereford success but looks a promising young stayer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Wrappedupinmay |
(1) 4/1(+0%) | (1) Wrappedupinmay 4/1, Off 11 months/had a wind op before an encouraging third of 6 in handicap chase at Newbury (23.4f, good to soft, 13/2) on his debut over fences 29 days ago. This fairly useful hurdles winner is open to improvement. Dual hurdle winner; something to prove now after a laboured debut over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Ideal Des Bordes |
(3) 4/1(-78%) | (3) Ideal Des Bordes 4/1, Made a successful return from wind surgery in 21f Kempton maiden hurdle in May. Unexposed sort from a leading yard and this winning pointer rates an interesting prospect. Won a maiden hurdle last May; 3m point winner who should make a chaser over this far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Tommys Charm |
(4) 11/2(+39%) | (4) Tommys Charm 11/2, Fair 2m4f hurdles winner who went with some promise when fifth of 7 in handicap chase (18/1) at Exeter (19.2f, heavy) on his debut over fences 41 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Should improve. Lightly raced maiden hurdle winner; well held on chase debut but in a good race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Lagonda |
(6) 15/2(-67%) | (6) Lagonda 15/2, Point/hurdles winner who has posted solid efforts when placed in handicap chases around 3m at Ludlow and Hereford this winter. In the mix once more. Pushed up 3lb for getting beaten at Hereford but the winner was bang in form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() First Lord De Cuet |
(2) 14/1(+13%) | (2) First Lord De Cuet 14/1, Hasn't won since 2021 and has failed to beat a rival on both outings this season, back over hurdles at Wincanton last time. Visor is back on but there's a bit to prove. This season hasn't started well, over fences and latterly hurdles. |
IDEAL DES BORDES showed plenty of promise as a novice hurdler last season and got off the mark under Rules at Kempton last May. With that in mind, Nicky Henderson's gelding merits plenty of respect on his chasing debut and is sure to have been well schooled. Wrappedupinmay failed to fire on his first start over fences but it is too soon to be writing him off. Others to note are Muskoka and Lagonda.
Nicky Henderson's lightly-raced point scorer IDEAL DES BORDES catches the eye now he goes chasing so is taken to make a winning start at the chief expense of Hereford scorer Muskoka. Both Wrappedupinmay and Lagonda can also have a say in this intriguing handicap.
Although still a maiden over fences, LAGONDA has returned in good order and chased home the progressive Lady Balko at Hereford latest.

![]() Juventus De Brion |
(4) 4/9(+39%) | (4) Juventus De Brion 4/9, Promising type. Evens, respectable second of 13 in novice hurdle at Chepstow (19.4f, good to soft) 79 days ago, finishing with running left. Sets a clear standard on the pick of his efforts and should take all the beating in a first-time tongue strap. Held as favourite latest but he's a big player if he can get back near best after wind op. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Benmore |
(1) 5/1(+9%) | (1) Benmore 5/1, Made a positive start in a bumper and backed it up despite jumping poorly when second in a novice at Southwell on hurdling debut. Should be better for that experience and is bred to stay the longer trip. Runner-up in bumper in November and on hurdling debut last month; respected upped in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() French Emperor |
(2) 6/1(+8%) | (2) French Emperor 6/1, £76,000 recruit from the Irish pointing field who offered plenty to work on when third in a 2m Lingfield novice on his hurdle debut. Not disgraced when third at Windsor next time and longer trip could help. Third in both hurdle runs this winter and has each-way claims again upped in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() King Of Answers |
(5) 10/1(-11%) | (5) King Of Answers 10/1, Runner-up in a point and showed something to work on when third in a bumper at Bangor 15 months ago. Not seen since but step up in trip is in his favour switched to hurdling. Has lots of stamina in pedigree but he needs plenty of progress upped in trip on comeback. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Miami Steve |
(6) 14/1(+44%) | (6) Miami Steve 14/1, Stepped up on previous efforts when fourth of 9 in novice hurdle (150/1) at Leicester (20.5f, heavy) 42 days ago. Will need to do better again if he's to make his presence felt in this, though. Has shaped with some promise in bumpers and as hurdler but handicaps will be more suitable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Norah's Legacy |
(7) 22/1(-38%) | (7) Norah's Legacy 22/1, Shaped like a stayer in a couple of bumpers and was helped by longer trip when runner-up in a Catterick novice on hurdling debut. This demands more, however. Runner-up on hurdling debut at Catterick and could get involved if he can build on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() The Gray Ghost |
(8) 28/1(-155%) | (8) The Gray Ghost 28/1, Irish bumper winner who was a fair fourth on his 19.5f Huntingdon hurdle debut in October. Shaped as if amiss back there last time so needs to get on track. Bumper winner but he flopped on last hurdle run and needs major overall improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Worth The Walk |
(10) 125/1(-150%) | (10) Worth The Walk 125/1, Won a point but didn't offer much at Hexham last month on hurdling bow. Fortunate winner of an Irish point and she made a low-key start over hurdles last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Alltheroadrunning |
(9) 150/1(-50%) | (9) Alltheroadrunning 150/1, Cost £48,000 after finishing third in a point in April 2022 but hasn't got to the track much under Rules and failed to see her races out in bumpers. Off another year ahead of this hurdling debut. Returns after another wind operation and market should guide on hurdling debut; hood added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Frontier Force |
(3) 300/1(-50%) | (3) Frontier Force 300/1, Well beaten in 2 bumpers and on Catterick hurdle debut. Failed to beat a rival in two bumpers and same story on hurdling debut at Catterick (2m3f). |
The form of JUVENTUS DE BRION's second at Chepstow has worked out well, with the winner going on to make the frame in a Grade 2. Dan Skelton's charge has undergone wind surgery since and he can get off the mark at the main expense of Benmore, who is entitled to improve for going up in trip if cutting out the mistakes he made when second at Southwell. Placed at Lingfield and Windsor, French Emperor cannot be ruled out either.
JUVENTUS DE BRION stands out on form and shaped better than the result when runner-up at Chepstow last time, so he's hard to take on here. Benmore has more to offer and French Emperor isn't without hope.
Dan Skelton's JUVENTUS DE BRION should be hard to beat if he can get back near his best after wind surgery. Benmore is feared most.

![]() Heroes Rise |
(3) 11/10(+32%) | (3) Heroes Rise 11/10, Fairly useful hurdler. 16/1, very good second of 9 in novice hurdle at Thurles (23.2f, good) 26 days ago. Solid claims. Yard also saddles Find A Fortune. Listowel maiden winner, progress stalled before an improved display over 2m7f at Thurles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Find A Fortune |
(4) 10/3(+5%) | (4) Find A Fortune 10/3, Fairly useful hurdler. 10/3, respectable third of 14 in novice hurdle at Ballinrobe (22.6f, good). Off 7 months but he will surely have a part to play if fully tuned-up. Consistent if limited in maidens, race-fit Heroes Rise is probably the yard's number one. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Goody Four Shoes |
(5) 4/1(+33%) | (5) Goody Four Shoes 4/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 150/1, sixth of 19 in novice hurdle at Punchestown (19.1f, soft) 37 days ago. Sizeable step forward required. Opening mark of 114 seems on the high side, has plenty to prove against previous winners. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Palamon |
(2) 4/1(-14%) | (2) Palamon 4/1, Fairly useful hurdler. Pulled up in novice hurdle (14/1) at this course (20.2f, good) 47 days ago. Will be a danger to all if responding well to the addition of blinkers. Respectable second of four in 2m Naas novice hurdle in November, pulled up over C&D latest. |
GOODY FOUR SHOES is a dark horse as he has finished unplaced in three maidens, but might better today's 115 perch. The seven-year-old didn't race until November but he finished behind two subsequent winners from each of the Punchestown maiden hurdles he contested in November and December, shaping quite nicely latterly. Rockymountainbleu was receiving weight when defeating Sounds Victorius at Punchestown and with there being no disgrace in finishing behind smart types at that same course last month, should compete under his claimer. Both Palamon (now tried in blinkers) and Heroes Rise flopped over C&D in November and while Heroes Rise subsequently ran well at Thurles, he would prefer a longer distance.
A Gordon Elliott 1-2 could be on the cards, with HEROES RISE, who took a step firmly back in the right direction when a clear second at Thurles last month, prefered to stablemate Find A Fortune. If the first-time blinkers help perk Palamon up he could also take a hand in the finish.
A puzzling little race but perhaps Gordon Elliott can provide the solution with HEROES RISE who came back to form at Thurles last month

(1) 3/1(+0%) | (1) Aviation 3/1, Shaped well sole start in bumpers and built on encouraging hurdles debut when second of 12 upped to 21f in a Warwick maiden last month. Remains open to improvement and he's one for the shortlist. Placed at Warwick on first two hurdle starts (2m/2m5f) and he's a leading player. |

![]() Jack's Jury |
(4) 4/1(-20%) | (4) Jack's Jury 4/1, €65,000 3-y-o, Jukebox Jury gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including useful hurdler/fairly useful chaser Jimmy Two Times and fair hurdler Edvardo. Last of 6 finishers sole start in Irish points in March but still much respected now setting out under Rules for top yard. Merely sixth in his sole point but has joined top yard for his rules career; could go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Dwight K Schrute |
(2) 5/1(+23%) | (2) Dwight K Schrute 5/1, £80,000 4-y-o. Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler/fair chaser in France La Henriade and fair 2m hurdle winner Docte Dina. Successful sole run between the flags in February 2023 and, though absent since, he needs a close look on Rules debut for his respected, in-form new yard. Won a British point in February 2023; absent since but returns with yard in excellent form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Monty Bodkin |
(6) 5/1(+0%) | (6) Monty Bodkin 5/1, Expensive as a store (out of Grade 1 winning mare) and improved when winning Doncaster bumper in February. Switched yards and shaped better than the distance beaten suggests sent hurdling after 9 months off when sixth at Carlisle (20f, good to soft) 2 months ago. Has had a wind op since. Bumper winner who shaped as though he needed the run on hurdle/stable debut; considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Another Pearl |
(8) 12/1(+40%) | (8) Another Pearl 12/1, Dam triple bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler. Signs of ability in bumpers but will probably be brought along gradually in this sphere, with a view to handicaps. Displayed some ability in bumpers but chunk of improvement needed on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Ocean Walz |
(7) 14/1(-17%) | (7) Ocean Walz 14/1, Finished runner-up all 3 starts in bumpers, so shade disappointing he couldn't continue the good work when eighth of 9 in novice hurdle at Hereford (19.7f, good to soft, 9/2) on hurdles bow 36 days ago, struggling after 4 out. This will reveal more. Runner-up in all three bumpers but tailed off on last month's hurdle debut at Hereford. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() King's Consort |
(9) 33/1(0%) | (9) King's Consort 33/1, Youmzain mare. Dam multiple bumper winner/made frame sole start over hurdles. Placed on the second of her 2 starts between the flags back in March 2023. Probably best watched on Rules debut. Made the frame in two British point-to-point bumpers in early 2023 but absent since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Grenardier |
(3) 66/1(+0%) | (3) Grenardier 66/1, Little impact in a couple of bumpers and similar story in pair of maiden/novice hurdles upon returning to action this winter. Handicaps will be more his bag after this. Unable to finish better than sixth across his four starts and he'd be a surprise winner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Minneigh Mozze |
(10) 100/1(+50%) | (10) Minneigh Mozze 100/1, Unconvincing profile, pulled up when last seen at Newton Abbot in July and returns in first time tongue-tie today having rejoined former stable. Has shown very little across her seven runs; tongue-tie goes on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() The Dancing Lass |
(11) 100/1(+50%) | (11) The Dancing Lass 100/1, Last of 6 in bumper at Bangor on debut in October and then trailed in last of 8 finishers switched to hurdles in a Hereford novice. Tailed off on debut in Bangor bumper and same story on hurdle debut at Hereford. |
Aviation arrives on the back of a solid second at Warwick and the six-year-old is likely to give another good account of himself. However, LIBRE DE CHOEUR made an encouraging Rules debut when finishing third in the stronger-looking first division of that maiden hurdle on the same card. Market support for winning pointer Dwight K Schrute on his Rules bow would be interesting.
AVIATION is shaping up well and looked well served by the step up in trip when runner up in a Warwick maiden 5 weeks ago. Open to further progress, he earns the vote to come out on top. Monty Bodkin was better than the distance beaten suggests on yard/hurdles debut at Carlisle and rates the type to do much better. Newcomer Jack's Jury and Libre de Choeur are others to consider.
Bumper winner MONTY BODKIN ran well for a long way before fading on his hurdle and seasonal debut, and has had wind surgery since.

![]() Eternal Angel |
(1) 1/3(+54%) | (1) Eternal Angel 1/3, Well backed and showed plenty when runner-up on debut in an Ascot bumper in November. Again shaped well when third in 10-runner novice on hurdles bow at Huntingdon the following month and clearly the one to beat here, despite failing to progress when only third of 5 at Doncaster last time. Didn't appear to stay 2m3f last time; drops in distance and has the best form of these. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() South Omo Zone |
(6) 3/1(-9%) | (6) South Omo Zone 3/1, Runner-up in a point and struck at the second time of asking in bumpers at Hereford last January. While that form isn't nothing to get too excited about, there is at least some substance to it (second, third and fourth are all subsequent winners) and he's respected on hurdles debut for new yard. Bumper winner; absent 12 months but goes hurdling in a race lacking much depth. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() I'd Go Maniac |
(4) 13/2(-8%) | (4) I'd Go Maniac 13/2, Left his debut effort well behind when cosily landing a 9-runner bumper at Market Rasen last summer. Put in his place at Ludlow next time and then checked out rather tamely on hurdles bow at Wetherby, but the latter was a Class 2 contest and he's surely capable of better in this sphere. Bumper winner; ran in a fair hurdle at Wetherby but was beaten a distance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Gore Point |
(2) 22/1(-57%) | (2) Gore Point 22/1, Flat-bred gelding who got back on track following 10 months off when winning 5-runner bumper at Stratford in October, making all and quickening clear straight. However, far too headstrong and very little promise switched to hurdles the last twice. Yard also saddles Stylia. Bumper winner but again he raced freely when tailed off in a Southwell maiden. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Grenadier Jed |
(3) 33/1(+0%) | (3) Grenadier Jed 33/1, The second of his 2 starts in bumpers resulted in a promising third of 12 at Fontwell last January but he has suffered heavy defeats in both runs over hurdles so far. Modest bumper form and has trailed home tailed off in two maiden hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Pulse Of Camelot |
(5) 50/1(+75%) | (5) Pulse Of Camelot 50/1, Made frame in points and shaped with a fair amount of promise when third of 13 in 21f Clonmel hunter on Rules debut last January. However, he was well beaten on hurdles/yard debut when making his seasonal reappearance at Bangor last month. Went off at 100-1 for last month's hurdling debut at Bangor and performed accordingly. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Stylia |
(7) 66/1(-32%) | (7) Stylia 66/1, Runner-up in an Irish point and hinted at promise when fourth of 7 in novice hurdle at Ffos Las on Rules debut in November. However, she has failed to build on that in 2 subsequent starts and is probably more one for the longer-term. Second in an Irish point but hard to trust after finishing well behind in both her hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Whatmakes Honey B |
(8) 250/1(-67%) | (8) Whatmakes Honey B 250/1, Winless following 8 attempts in maiden points and showed next to nothing on Rules debut in a Ffos Las bumper 3 months ago (has undergone a wind op in the interim). Tongue strap enlisted now switched to hurdles and huge step forward needed. Failed to win in eight Irish points and was tailed off in a Ffos Las bumper when 100-1. |
ETERNAL ANGEL has shown ability in all three previous starts and the son of Authorized has been found an ideal opportunity to get off the mark. That said, I'd Go Maniac won a bumper last year and is likely to improve on his hurdling debut at Wetherby in November, while South Omo Zone should not be underestimated on his debut for Olly Murphy.
It was a shade disappointing that ETERNAL ANGEL failed to deliver when sent off favourite for a Doncaster novice during the Christmas period, having shaped well prior to that in a bumper and on debut in this sphere at Huntingdon. However, he still showed enough on Town Moor to suggest that a race of this nature will be well within his grasp. Bumper winner South Omo Zone is interesting switched to hurdles on his first run for Olly Murphy and is clear second choice ahead of I'd Go Maniac.
A very ordinary maiden and it's hard to get away from ETERNAL ANGEL who has the best form and will be suited by the drop in trip.

(3) 6/4(+0%) | (3) Rattling Road 6/4, Won an Irish point in April 2022 and left previous efforts behind when scoring impressively on only his second chase outing at Hexham last time. More to come and boasts leading claims. Very lightly raced 8yo who won 14-runner Hexham handicap chase last month; respected. |

![]() A Moments Madness |
(4) 4/1(+11%) | (4) A Moments Madness 4/1, Runner-up sole start in Irish points last February and fair form when reaching the frame in novice hurdles at Wetherby and Ffos Las towards the end of 2024. Switches to fences for this handicap debut. Looked very promising when placed in novice hurdle last month; chase/handicap debut today. |

![]() Leitrim Chief |
(8) 7/1(+22%) | (8) Leitrim Chief 7/1, Showed ability over hurdles and stepped up on his chase debut when third of 12 in a Hexham handicap (15.6f, heavy) in April. Not in same form at Carlisle on return but may strip fitter for it. 0-8 under rules but current mark is workable if all goes to plan. |

![]() Leading Force |
(6) 8/1(+20%) | (6) Leading Force 8/1, Off 4 months/had wind op before a creditable fourth of 6 in handicap at Musselburgh (20.3f, good to soft) 38 days ago. Likely player dropped 2 lb with that run under his belt. Won a chase at start of this season but has not yet built on that performance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Halpha Soleil |
(7) 10/1(+29%) | (7) Halpha Soleil 10/1, Looked better than ever when winning over hurdles at Hexham in June. Probably needed the run in a handicap there on chase debut last month, so should build on it. Dual hurdle winner; made just a mildly encouraging chase debut; improvement required. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Reilly |
(5) 11/1(-69%) | (5) Reilly 11/1, Fair winner over hurdles who showed better form on his first go at chasing. Yet to match it but looked as good as ever before absence told returning from 22 months off at Windsor last time. Cheekpieces back on and has been given a big chance by the handicapper. Ran well to a point after a long layoff and is very well handicapped on old form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Quick Sharpener |
(2) 12/1(+25%) | (2) Quick Sharpener 12/1, Point winner and dual scorer over hurdles in 2022/23. Disappointing back from an absence when pulled up on chasing debut at Uttoxeter but may come on for it. Ran as though something amiss on chase debut in October after long absence; wind op since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Coqolino |
(1) 14/1(-100%) | (1) Coqolino 14/1, It's now 15 runs since his last win in 2021 but he has been holding his form well lately. Should be involved once more if his jumping holds up. 0-15 over fences but ended last year with three good efforts; likely contender again here. |
RATTLING ROAD powered clear to score by just under four lengths on his second chase start at Hexham and the handicapper might have been kind to only put him up 6lb. Lucinda Russell's eight-year-old is likely to have more improvement in him and he will prove hard to beat. Coqolino finished a respectable third in a stronger contest at Kelso and could get into contention off the same mark. Reilly is another to keep an eye on.
RATTLING ROAD is a typically big, imposing sort from the Lucinda Russell stable and he jumped accurately when running out a ready winner at Hexham last time, so he's an obvious choice to defy a rise. Reilly is a big danger from a handicapping perspective and A Moments Madness looks an interesting chasing debutant.
Chase/handicap debutant A MOMENTS MADNESS caught the eye when keeping on for third in a pretty good Ffos Las novice hurdle last month.

![]() Fourcardrun |
(3) 200/1(-60%) | (3) Fourcardrun 200/1, Twice-raced maiden. Eighth of 11 in novice hurdle (250/1) at Limerick (21f, soft) 19 days ago. Down in trip. No sign of winning potential in two maiden outings over longer trips. |

![]() Tizonlyadream |
(13) 250/1(-25%) | (13) Tizonlyadream 250/1, Once-raced maiden. 80/1, last of 14 in novice hurdle at Galway (16.4f, good to soft) on NH debut 82 days ago. Completely tailed off at Galway in October on belated debut, safe to rule out. |
KISS WILL is another interesting French recruit for Willie Mullins. The Tunis gelding was second in a bumper on his sole start in his native land and that form looks strong as the winner of that race went on to land a Grade 3 contest. Hello Jack shaped with promise when third to a decent sort, in Kel Histoire, on his debut at Cork last month and may improve from that outing. A newcomer to note is the Gavin Cromwell-trained Sionainn. The Doctor Dino gelding cost 170,000 euro as a store and is related to three winners.
KISS WILL showed plenty in a bumper on his only French outing 16 months ago and his new yard has a tremendous record with similar types, so he gets the narrow vote over Hello Jack, who arrives on the back of a promising hurdling debut. Sionainn looks the pick of the newcomers on pedigree.
This should prove a suitable starting point for KISS WILL, an expensive Arqana purchase after a single AQPS run in 2023

![]() Heva Rose |
(3) 9/4(+25%) | (3) Heva Rose 9/4, Back on track following a second wind op, scoring on return at Lingfield last winter. Good second back there next time and best effort yet on these shores when resuming winning ways at Hereford (25.2f) 13 months ago. Absent since but fact she's gone well fresh previously bodes well. Has won after an absence; progressive; leading claims if resuming where she left off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Superstylin |
(7) 5/1(+9%) | (7) Superstylin 5/1, Irish point winner who opened chase account at Lingfield (2m) 14 months ago and almost repeated the feat back there in November. Still held up when unseating 4 out on latest outing 4 weeks ago and he's not one to write off now stepping back up in trip. Went close on reappearance in November; in with a chance if seeing out this longer trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Lucky Lugger |
(2) 6/1(-20%) | (2) Lucky Lugger 6/1, Finished runner-up on first 2 starts over fences in November and, returned to Chepstow, in process of running well when falling 3 out over 2m 3 weeks ago. Has a race in him from this sort of mark. Remains a maiden but some good form at Chepstow this season and could have a part to play. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Greenrock Abbey |
(5) 7/1(+13%) | (5) Greenrock Abbey 7/1, Dual winner over fences at Hereford during 2022/23 and placed twice last season. Strictly operating below best in 2 starts upon returning, weakening before 2 out when fourth of 6 in handicap chase at Fontwell (17.8f, soft) 21 days ago. First-time blinkers may help now. Below par the last twice but well handicapped and perhaps blinkers will give him a boost. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Night Jet |
(9) 8/1(+43%) | (9) Night Jet 8/1, Maiden who showed no ill effects of a fall on reappearance when good third of 9 in handicap at Leicester last month and backed that up when a well-beaten second of 11 at Uttoxeter (15.8f, heavy) next time. Not one to give up on making his chase debut for all he's out of the weights. Placed over hurdles the last twice but now 0-15 and 3lb out of the handicap on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Fame And Fun |
(6) 20/1(+20%) | (6) Fame And Fun 20/1, Won a Plumpton handicap chase in March but patchy record over fences/hurdles subsequently for Paul Nicholls. Low-key start for new yard when fifth of 7 in handicap hurdle at Ffos Las (20f, heavy) 28 days ago and return to chasing/refitted cheekpieces needs to have positive effect. Won over fences last March but tailed off over hurdles on last month's stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Yes And Yes |
(8) 33/1(-32%) | (8) Yes And Yes 33/1, Just about matched his poor hurdles form sent chasing when fourth of 8 in handicap at this course (23.8f, heavy) when last seen 10 months ago. Handicapper dropped him 5 lb ahead of his return but others more solid. Fair fourth on chase debut here last February but bigger run needed on first start since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Micro Millions |
(4) 33/1(+34%) | (4) Micro Millions 33/1, £40,000 buy after winning an Irish point and made the frame 3 times over hurdles at up to 25f for Dan Skelton last term. However, low-key efforts in 2 chase tries for new yard in recent months. Has it to prove for now. Placed in maiden hurdles but pulled up/well beaten on his first two chase/stable starts. |
HEVA ROSE looked one to keep the right side of when landing the spoils in a class 2 chase at Hereford 397 days ago and Venetia Williams' mare may be worth chancing off just 3lb higher. Although he was last seen falling at Chepstow, Lucky Lugger is a potential improver up in distance and the eight-year-old shouldn't be underestimated. Connections of Greenrock Abbey reach for first-time blinkers and an improved bid wouldn't come as a surprise.
HEVA ROSE got her career firmly back on track when scoring twice over fences last winter and, appealing as the type who could step up further this campaign, she's fancied to make light of an absence again and come out on top. Zestful Hope if lining up here and Lucky Lugger are others to consider.
The mare HEVA ROSE was progressive towards the end of 2023 and has won after some time off in the past. Lucky Lugger is a danger.

![]() Dirty Den |
(10) 3/1(+54%) | (10) Dirty Den 3/1, Fair bumper winner who has hinted at promise over hurdles, fourth of 8 over C&D 30 days ago. Player off a 4 lb lower mark now. Latest fourth here needs improving upon and may prefer drier ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() John Betjeman |
(7) 6/1(+25%) | (7) John Betjeman 6/1, Eighteen runs since last win in 2023 but ran respectably when fifth of 15 in handicap over C&D (soft) 21 days ago. Likely to remain competitive. Extremely difficult to win with and has never won anywhere other than Ffos Las. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Mairis Icon |
(6) 15/2(+25%) | (6) Mairis Icon 15/2, C&D winner who posted a respectable sixth of 11 in handicap hurdle here (19.8f, soft) 30 days ago. Down in trip but not discounted. Won her maiden here and latest respectable sixth was in a higher grade; considered. |

![]() Siam Park |
(5) 8/1(+43%) | (5) Siam Park 8/1, Free-going type who has proven to be a disappointment since being switched to handicaps, unseating third at Taunton last month. Others preferred. An easy-to-back 12-1 chance when departing early at Taunton a month ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Odin's Quest |
(8) 8/1(0%) | (8) Odin's Quest 8/1, Bumper winner who landed a maiden over C&D in spring 2023. Mixed bag in handicap company last season, pulled up at this course on final outing in March. Needs to hit the ground running on his seasonal return. Off since a poor run here last March but has the ability to be involved off this mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Another Fine Mess |
(1) 17/2(+29%) | (1) Another Fine Mess 17/2, Lightly-raced maiden hurdler. Off 9 months/had a wind op before an encouraging fourth of 10 in novice hurdle over C&D (soft) 30 days ago. Has more to offer on his handicap hurdle debut. Shown ability and relatively unexposed now entering the handicap scene. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Strong Belle |
(3) 10/1(-18%) | (3) Strong Belle 10/1, Winless this season but he comes here in decent nick, fifth of 10 in handicap hurdle at Newbury (16.3f, good to soft, 20/1) 19 days ago. No forlorn hope. Runner-up in a Class 5 at Hereford (2m, good to soft) before flying too high at Newbury. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() St Lukes Chelsea |
(11) 11/1(-120%) | (11) St Lukes Chelsea 11/1, Modest maiden on the Flat who posted a good second of 5 in juvenile hurdle at Fontwell (17.7f, soft) 37 days ago, travelling best. Makes handicap hurdle debut. Not taken lightly. Second last time; armed with his 4yo allowance for handicap debut, he's in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Just Aidan |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Mr Zee |
(16) 16/1(-33%) | (16) Mr Zee 16/1, Multiple Flat winner who comes here in decent nick over hurdles, fourth of 9 in handicap hurdle at Leicester (15.5f, heavy, 7/1) 42 days ago. Holds solid claims. Six Flat wins; 0-10 over hurdles but here has been promise, including last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Je Suis Sacre |
(13) 18/1(-112%) | (13) Je Suis Sacre 18/1, Lightly-raced maiden who came in last of 9 in handicap hurdle at Fontwell (17.7f, soft, 3/1) 37 days ago. Plenty more is needed. Poor so far but did go off favourite for handicap debut and has drier ground here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Chester Tonik |
(14) 20/1(+70%) | (14) Chester Tonik 20/1, Modest winner at 10f on flat but only ninth of 15 in handicap hurdle (80/1) at Taunton (19f, good to soft) 49 days ago. Hard to make a case for. Nothing has really happened over hurdles, finishing tailed off in his two handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Chicago Storm |
(4) 25/1(+11%) | (4) Chicago Storm 25/1, Ended his time with Christopher Timmons with win in 13-runner claimer at Dundalk (12f) 36 days ago. Possibilities back over hurdles for his new yard. Six-race maiden over hurdles in Ireland but did win an AW claimer in December. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Basman Palace |
(12) 33/1(+18%) | (12) Basman Palace 33/1, Yet to hit top form this term, eighth of 13 in handicap hurdle at Taunton (16.5f, good) 35 days ago. Needs to build on it. There were some signs of a revival last time at Taunton (beaten 15l). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Cawthorne Banker |
(2) 40/1(-150%) | (2) Cawthorne Banker 40/1, Arrives out of sorts, last of 7 in handicap hurdle at Market Rasen (18.6f, good to soft, 33/1) 21 days ago. Hard to warm to. Two hurdle wins; should be well handicapped but recent form has been very forgettable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Belle Montrose |
(9) 66/1(-313%) | (9) Belle Montrose 66/1, Lightly-raced sort who looked rusty after 4 months off when fifth of 7 in handicap hurdle (16/1) at Ludlow (15.8f, soft) 52 days ago. Can take a step forward. Tailed off on her handicap debut at Ludlow when a 16-1 chance; may need further. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() No Guarantee |
(18) 150/1(-50%) | (18) No Guarantee 150/1, Remains with little form over hurdles, well-beaten fourth in handicap at Fontwell (17.7f, soft) 22 days ago. 9 lb out of the handicap too. Has struggled in his five handicaps and today's cause not helped by being 9lb wrong. |
ST LUKES CHELSEA has improved with every start since switching to hurdles last year and his recent second at Fontwell suggests that an opening mark of 98 should be workable. Dirty Den showed more promise when fourth over C&D last time and cannot be discounted off a 4lb lower mark. The shortlist is completed by John Betjeman, Mairis Icon and Strong Belle.
This could go the way of ST LUKES CHELSEA who travelled well when runner-up at Fontwell last time out and can build on it now sent into handicap company for the first time. Dirty Den is feared most off a handy-looking mark, although Mr Zee, John Betjeman and Another Fine Mess all warrant plenty of respect too in a very open contest.
Plenty with chances in an open race. A likely improver is ANOTHER FINE MESS who is tackling his first handicap.

![]() Soldier's Leap |
(13) 4/1(0%) | (13) Soldier's Leap 4/1, Lightly-raced maiden who improved switched to a handicap when second in 9-runner event at Fontwell (17.7f, soft, 4/1) 33 days ago. Tongue strap on for 1st time and may do better still. Made a promising start in handicaps when second at Fontwell (2m2f, soft) last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Authorized Mission |
(7) 4/1(+20%) | (7) Authorized Mission 4/1, Never figured in trio of bumpers for Iain Jardine. Gradual progress over hurdles for new stable, readily surpassing previous exploits when second of 11 in a C&D novice last month. May do better still and of interest on handicap debut. 100-1 for C&D maiden last time but produced easily his most competitive display to be 2nd. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Galahad Threepwood |
(1) 15/2(+38%) | (1) Galahad Threepwood 15/2, Fair handicap hurdler who seemed unsuited by conditions when well held at Sandown on final start in 2023/24 for Ben Pauling. Arrives fit from the Flat, doing too much too soon here last month, and could go well. Sole hurdles win was March 2023; still capable of fair Flat form in 2024. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Trailblazer |
(9) 9/1(+36%) | (9) Trailblazer 9/1, Gained breakthrough success from 4 lb higher mark at Perth in July but hasn't been able to reproduce that level of form in 5 subsequent appearances. Inconsistent but he's won once and would be a contender if this is one of his better days. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Gwennie May Star |
(10) 12/1(+25%) | (10) Gwennie May Star 12/1, Appealed as a possible improver for the switch to handicaps but went off at long odds and offered little at Hereford last month. Needs a big step forward. 22-1 when tailed off on handicap debut at Hereford (2m, good to soft) last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Athair Mor |
(8) 16/1(-14%) | (8) Athair Mor 16/1, Better effort on debut when third in C&D maiden at the end of October. Makes a quick switch to handicaps but has been handed a stiff-looking mark. Tongue strap on for 1st time. Back down in trip and tongue tied for handicap debut, improvement could be forthcoming. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Magnolia |
(5) 20/1(-82%) | (5) Magnolia 20/1, Fair hurdler/chaser at best in France. Probably needed the run when sixth of 9 in Kelso handicap on stable debut last month and Brian Hughes takes over from a 7 lb claimer now. 1-17 in France; never dangerous at 100-1 for yard debut; tongue-tie back; Brian Hughes on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Vengaboy |
(4) 33/1(-175%) | (4) Vengaboy 33/1, Lightly-raced maiden who was let down by jumping when seventh of 14 on handicap debut (28/1) at Fairyhouse (23.5f, heavy). Off 13 months and market best guide on first run for yard after leaving Declan Queally. Ex-Irish, off 419 days; needs big improvement but the yard is having an excellent season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Kazar Forez |
(2) 40/1(-300%) | (2) Kazar Forez 40/1, Fair maiden hurdler in France, going close in Auteuil handicap on final start there in June. The betting should help guide to expectations now setting out for Micky Hammond. Runner-up over 2m1f/2m2f in two of his five hurdle races in France, including June latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Intersky Sunset |
(6) 40/1(-100%) | (6) Intersky Sunset 40/1, Back hurdling and ran her best race of the season despite shaping as if unsuited by the drop in trip when third of 13 at Wexford (20.4f, good to soft) back in August. Easy to back and was given a considerate introduction for new connections at Uttoxeter 4 months on. This will reveal more. Pulled up on British debut; best efforts in Ireland were over 2m3f-2m6f. |
Soldier's Leap only found a subsequent winner too good at Fontwell last month and boasts leading claims off just a 2lb higher rating. However, he might come out second best to HAWK STONE, who made every yard of the running to strike at Uttoxeter in April. Providing he is ready to go on his return to action, he could be the one to beat. Authorized Mission showed a lot more when runner-up over C&D and is one to watch in the betting ahead of his handicap bow.
SOLDIER'S LEAP improved straight away for the switch to a handicap when second at Fontwell last month and, with his lightly-raced profile offering plenty of hope for better still, he's taken to go one better in a first-time tongue strap. Authorized Mission improved despite suffering interference in a C&D novice on his most recent outing and could go on again now venturing into a handicap, with Hawk Stone another to note on his return to action having built up a positive profile last season.
Hawk Stone, Soldier's Leap and Athair Mor are shortlisted but AUTHORIZED MISSION gets the vote on his handicap debut.

![]() Workinonadream |
(10) 9/4(+36%) | (10) Workinonadream 9/4, Fair hurdler. Very good second of 17 in novice hurdle (40/1) at Limerick (20f, soft) 20 days ago. Sets the standard and shouldn't be far away. Placed in eight of her 10 starts and her latest 2nd at Limerick got a form boost on Monday. |

Should come on for that initial outing and is worthy of interest if the market speaks in her favour on hurdles debut. Well held 8th when 9-2 for a Naas bumper when too keen; nice pedigree and may do better. |

![]() Emily's Light |
(3) 22/1(-10%) | (3) Emily's Light 22/1, Twice-raced maiden. Sixth of 10 in bumper (33/1) at Clonmel (16.2f, good to soft) 70 days ago. Makes hurdles debut. Up in trip. Tongue strap on for 1st time. Tailed off in 2 bumpers; trip may suit given her half-brother stayed 2m4f; yard flying. |

![]() Borora River |
(2) 28/1(-100%) | (2) Borora River 28/1, Twice-raced maiden. 300/1, thirteenth of 20 in novice hurdle at this course (16f, heavy). Off 9 months. Up in trip. First run for yard after leaving Patrick Magee. Showed nothing under rules last term but landed a point last month; likely up against it. |

![]() Are You Busy |
(1) 28/1(+30%) | (1) Are You Busy 28/1, Once-raced maiden. 100/1, sixth of 18 in novice hurdle at Cork (16.2f, soft) on NH debut 34 days ago. Up in trip. Unplaced in 2 points and tailed off 6th on rules bow; further may help but plenty to find. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Mountrivers Lass |
(6) 40/1(+20%) | (6) Mountrivers Lass 40/1, Modest hurdler. Good tenth of 17 in novice hurdle at Limerick (20f, soft, 200/1) 20 days ago. More needed. 0-10; one of her better runs when 10th in Limerick maiden but likely one for h'caps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Pointe A Pitre |
(7) 50/1(-52%) | (7) Pointe A Pitre 50/1, Lightly-raced maiden under NH rules. Twelfth of 15 in novice hurdle at Limerick (19f, soft, 25/1) 18 days ago. Booking of Flanagan a plus. Showed ability when 4th in Cork bumper in March 2023; hasn't built on that in 3 runs since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Glenetty |
(4) 80/1(-142%) | (4) Glenetty 80/1, Poor chaser. Sixth of 12 in novice hurdle (100/1) at this C&D (soft) 15 days ago. Hard to make a case for. 0-15 in points and hasn't shown enough under rules so far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Walk In The Sea |
(9) 125/1(-56%) | (9) Walk In The Sea 125/1, Thrice-raced maiden under NH rules. 200/1, eleventh of 14 in novice hurdle at this course (18.4f, good to soft) 5 days ago. Low-key efforts in points and under rules so far and big step forward required. |
SWING DAVIS was a big money purchase from the point-to-point field and may be able to make her mark now over jumps. The No Risk At All mare made 320,000 euro after winning in Loughanmore last April. She has been beaten favourite in two bumpers this season but they were solid enough runs and she may be better with a hurdle in front of her over a longer trip. The Willie Mullins-trained Kara De Thaix is another who could do better now over hurdles. She was well beaten on her debut in a bumper at Naas last month. Workinonadream has some solid placed form in the book and should collect prize-money again.
SWING DAVIS, having won a point, produced two solid performances in bumpers, so she's fancied to open her account at the first attempt over hurdles. Workinonadream is an obvious threat on the back of a good second at Limerick and Kara de Thaix isn't without hope despite an underwhelming start in a bumper.
With WORKINONADREAM's latest effort getting a recent form boost, she's worth siding with despite a frustrating run of placed efforts

(8) 3/1(+14%) | (8) We Got Your Back 3/1, Fallen to a basement mark and, back from 4 months off/refitted with a hood got off the mark when seeing off Lady Pretender by 2 lengths at Leicester (15.9f) 19 days ago. Strength at the finish then suggests this step back up in trip is well worth exploring. Big shout. Off the mark at Leicester last month in a first-time hood and he's a leading player. |

(4) 9/2(-29%) | (4) Thunder N Lightnin 9/2, 7-y-o who showed promise in pair of novice hurdles last winter and again showed encouragement after 10 months off when third in 6-runner novice at Kempton (21f) in November. Appeals as the type to make his mark now handicapping in this sphere and good showing anticipated. Very lightly raced 7yo who is a possible improver now switched to fences on handicap debut. |

![]() Rajjamataz |
(2) 6/1(+20%) | (2) Rajjamataz 6/1, Off the mark over fences at Fontwell in May and followed that with a couple of decent efforts in defeat. Didn't find much when it came to the crunch on his reappearance at Uttoxeter in November but he's entitled to come on for that run. In good form prior to last time, when soft ground at Uttoxeter may not have been ideal. |

Won off this mark over hurdles last March but below par in autumn (including over fences). |

(1) 10/1(+38%) | (1) Just One Surf 10/1, Placed in Irish points/bumper and left his first 2 hurdle runs behind when springing a 40/1 surprise in a maiden at Taunton (2m, soft) in March. However, well-beaten next time and he's failed to complete both starts over fences, including after 8 months off 17 days ago. Blinkers reached for. Pulled up in both chases but lightly raced and perhaps blinkers will give him a boost. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Gaelic Park |
(5) 12/1(+40%) | (5) Gaelic Park 12/1, Point/bumper winner who got off the mark over hurdles in a maiden at Warwick (21f, heavy) in March 2023 but struggled last season, including over fences, and recent hurdles exploits have been below par. Return to larger obstacles needs to have positive effect. Soundly beaten over hurdles on both runs this term and hasn't taken to chasing previously. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Bumpy Evans |
(9) 14/1(-155%) | (9) Bumpy Evans 14/1, Offered little in a trio of starts over hurdles for Ben Lund in 2022/23 but successful between the Flags subsequently, winning each of his last 2 starts, the latest in May. 10 lb out of the weights now handicapping in this sphere for new yard and the betting can guide. Hood on 1st time. Won 2 points last May; could play leading role if transferring that ability back to rules. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Aldsworth |
(7) 14/1(+36%) | (7) Aldsworth 14/1, Maiden but improved form for his new yard in 2023, runner-up over hurdles at Hereford. Shaped better than the distance beaten in first-time blinkers after 11 months off at Huntingdon in November and that ought to have blown the cobwebs away now his attentions switch to chasing. 0-9 over hurdles but not ruled out on chase debut and second start back from an absence. |
WE GOT YOUR BACK accounted for Lady Pretender by two lengths when victorious over 2m at Leicester last month and is only 3lb worse off. The seven-year-old should have no issues with this step back up in trip and can confirm that form to complete a double. As for the latter, it would be no surprise to see her get closer and prove to be the main threat. Any market confidence behind dual point-to-point winner Bumpy Evans would also be interesting.
WE GOT YOUR BACK was never stronger than at the finish when opening his account over shorter at Leicester 3 weeks ago and he's taken to build on that returned to this longer trip from a 3 lb higher mark. Thunder N Lightnin is a most intriguing chase debutant and is another to consider. Lady Pretender, who finished runner-up to the selection last time, can also feature.
Two-time point winner BUMPY EVANS has a basement mark to work with now back under rules and can make a winning chase debut.

![]() Loki's Mischief |
(15) 7/2(0%) | (15) Loki's Mischief 7/2, Ran to a fair level first time out in bumpers and stepped up on his hurdles debut when just touched off in a 4-runner Taunton novice in November. Again shaped well when fourth of 13 upped to 19f at the same course last week and he's 7 lb 'well-in' for this handicap debut. Goes handicapping on the back of a positive run behind a smart novice last week. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Kado De Joie |
(4) 4/1(-45%) | (4) Kado De Joie 4/1, Progressive young hurdler who came from an unpromising position to follow up his Fontwell success in 8-runner handicap at Lingfield last time, proving a length too strong for Fine Casting. Further progress needed up 6 lb but this 5-y-o may well have more to offer. Had a bit up his sleeve when beating Fine Casting at Lingfield; 6lb rise is fair. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Fine Casting |
(3) 9/2(+40%) | (3) Fine Casting 9/2, More than 2 years since he last got his head in front but likely to put that right soon enough judged on his latest second to the re-opposing Kado De Joie at Lingfield (19.5f, soft). Beaten a length by that rival and now 6 lb better off, a factor which could tilt the scales in his favour this time. Things are picking up again after pushing Kado De Joie to a length at Lingfield (2m3f). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Jet Marshall |
(13) 13/2(+46%) | (13) Jet Marshall 13/2, Attracted support and showed improved form to make a winning handicap debut upped to 19.8f here in February 2023. Shaped as if retaining all his ability on what was essentially his return from an almost 2-year absence at Warwick last month (fourth of 11) and he is dangerous to discount. C&D winner; fourth at Warwick on what was essentially his first start after a long absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Latin Verse |
(2) 15/2(+46%) | (2) Latin Verse 15/2, Won twice over hurdles last season and returned to that sort of form with usual cheekpieces left off when second of 9 at Huntingdon (15.8f, soft) in November, pulling clear of the remainder. Excuses upped to 19f at Taunton since but others look better treated here all the same. Second at Huntingdon and a late mistake proved costly at Taunton a month ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Firestream |
(1) 10/1(+17%) | (1) Firestream 10/1, Fairly useful form when making a successful hurdling debut in a 19.4f Chepstow maiden in November 2022. Made the frame both subsequent outings that season and while a 23-month absence is naturally a concern ahead of this handicap bow, he still has both low mileage and potential. This mark might be okay for handicap debut provided he retains all his ability. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Highlands Legacy |
(8) 12/1(-60%) | (8) Highlands Legacy 12/1, Placed in a pair of bumpers and quickly back from a spill at Carlisle when running out an emphatic winner of a Southwell maiden last spring. Disappointingly failed to land the odds in a Worcester novice next time but it's still early days for this 6-y-o and now goes up in trip for this handicap bow. Maiden winner; off since June but brings potential into handicaps over a longer distance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Love Of Neymore |
(6) 14/1(-17%) | (6) Love Of Neymore 14/1, Improved to get off the mark in 13-runner handicap at Chepstow last spring, responding well. Shaped as if amiss sent chasing at Ludlow 6 months later, but quickly returned to winning ways reverting to hurdling when making all over this C&D last month. More on her plate up 5 lb in this tougher race. Made all over C&D a month ago and should give another good account off 5lb higher. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Iris Des Issards |
(11) 14/1(-17%) | (11) Iris Des Issards 14/1, Ex-pointer who is still unexposed as a hurdler and, though 0-7 in this sphere, he again made the frame when fourth upped to 21.6f on deep ground at Exeter last time. Couldn't be sure that this drop back in trip will be ideal but he may well get competitive late on, granted a strong pace to aim at. Performed with credit in all four handicaps (2m-2m5f) without looking ahead of his mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Monjules |
(9) 20/1(+0%) | (9) Monjules 20/1, Three-time hurdle winner since joining Harry Fry and seemingly back on track following a string of low-key efforts when third in an 11-runner handicap at Taunton (19f, good to soft) on return from a break in November. Remains on a workable mark but a stiffer stamina test is probably what he needs. Encouraging third at Taunton despite being weak in the betting; entitled to improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Sirekoff |
(7) 25/1(-14%) | (7) Sirekoff 25/1, Won a maiden on debut for David Pipe at Newton Abbot (18.5f, good) during the summer but misfired on subsequent handicap bow at Chepstow in November. Since undergone a wind op and now sports a tongue-tie, so a breathing issue was presumably the reason for the Chepstow disappointment. Maiden winner; had a wind op since dropping out on handicap debut; now tongue tied. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() No Word Of A Lie |
(5) 50/1(-52%) | (5) No Word Of A Lie 50/1, Winner of a novice hurdle at Sedgefield in December 2021 but ended that campaign on a downer and didn't show much of an aptitude for fences on his comeback at Wetherby last February. Return to this sphere certainly no bad thing but it remains to be seen how much ability he retains. Potentially well handicapped but he has some serious wellbeing issues to overcome. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Storming Nelson |
(12) 66/1(-65%) | (12) Storming Nelson 66/1, Winner of a 17f Exeter novice on New Year's Day last year but has offered little in 3 subsequent starts, including on his reappearance at Leicester. Exeter novice winner but fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Baddesley |
(14) 66/1(-32%) | (14) Baddesley 66/1, Temperamental sort and while he managed to win over hurdles and fences at Plumpton last season, he has shown little spark in 2 runs so far this time round. Four-time winner but he'll need to run considerably better than in his last two races. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Imperial Storm |
(10) 200/1(-33%) | (10) Imperial Storm 200/1, Bumper/ hurdles winner for Fergal O'Brien but off for 500 days prior to pulling up in a point in May and beaten a long way in handicap hurdles at Chepstow and Hereford in recent months. Pulled up in a point last May and tailed off in two handicap hurdles since then. |
Kado De Joie supplemented his victory at Fontwell when accounting for the reopposing Fine Casting at Lingfield last month. Although Nicky Henderson's charge warrants respect, a further 6lb rise in the ratings may scupper his hat-trick bid and LOVE OF NEYMORE is a shade more appealing. The seven-year-old mare made all over C&D 30 days ago and Sean Clarke's 10lb claim may prove crucial. Market support for handicap debutant Firestream off a 718-day absence would be interesting.
LOKI'S MISCHIEF is armed with potential now stepping into handicap company and is a step ahead of the assessor, too, given that he's due to go up 7 lb for last week's highly encouraging effort in a Taunton novice. The 5-y-o shades preference ahead of Fine Casting, who is taken to reverse last month's Lingfield placings with the up-and-coming Kado de Joie on these revised terms. That said, the latter is respected in his hat-trick bid and Firestream is of interest, despite the lengthy absence.
Kado De Joie is feared but there are others with chances and LOKI'S MISCHIEF could be on a nice mark for this handicap debut.

![]() Mister Smarty |
(9) 8/15(+82%) | (9) Mister Smarty 8/15, Belied 10-month absence when successful here on return and backed it up with another likeable display to score at Wetherby. Should get the strong pace to suit once more and is worth a chance to land the hat-trick. 2-2 this term, winning over 2m1f here and 2m at Wetherby; 2m4f should suit; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Prince Nino |
(16) 7/1(+30%) | (16) Prince Nino 7/1, Back on track when second of 13 in handicap hurdle at Sedgefield (19.8f, good to soft) 21 days ago. Has slipped to an appealing mark and should be involved if he's able to back that up. Two Perth wins in 2023; mixed form since; fair second last time and worth considering. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Agilulf |
(7) 17/2(+39%) | (7) Agilulf 17/2, Still to register a victory and while he again performed with credit at Musselburgh (19.8f, good to soft) on latest completed outing, one or two of these look more solid. 0-15; conditions suit and could go well but lacks consistency; a hood is now tried. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Bridgetjoans |
(12) 9/1(+18%) | (12) Bridgetjoans 9/1, Left some lacklustre efforts behind when producing her best effort of the season in first-time cheekpieces, finishing fifth of 13 in handicap hurdle at Catterick (19.3f, good) 30 days ago. Entitled to build on that. Two good handicap runs last term; best run this season when fifth last time; more needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Aquitaine Boy |
(2) 10/1(+17%) | (2) Aquitaine Boy 10/1, Belied odds of 40/1 back from nearly 3 years off when making a winning start for this yard in a 15.8f novice at Southwell (good) in May but had fortune on his side that day and failed to make a major impact back in handicap company there last month. Could come on for that. Won 2m maiden hurdle in May and fair sixth in 2m4f handicap last month; others stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Faha Belle |
(5) 16/1(-60%) | (5) Faha Belle 16/1, Previous connections (Fergal O'Brien) would have been frustrated not to get her head in front (0-14 under Rules), latest a disappointing effort on second chase outing. Change of scenery may help and it would be no surprise to see an improved effort on return to hurdles for new yard. Ex-Fergal O'Brien; has shown some fair form but below par this term; stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Call Your Bluff |
(3) 16/1(-14%) | (3) Call Your Bluff 16/1, Best effort over hurdles when third over 2m at Kempton in November. Steps up in trip for handicap debut with a first-time tongue tie also added. 3rd in novice in November; step up to 2m4f will suit; interesting on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Penpal |
(15) 28/1(-56%) | (15) Penpal 28/1, Capable off this sort of mark on his day but lacks consistency and arrives on the back of a tame effort over C&D. Others preferred. Won over 2m1f here in 2023; some fair efforts since but bled on two of last three starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Noble Affair |
(14) 50/1(-79%) | (14) Noble Affair 50/1, Well-beaten on last hurdle outing in May and pulled up on her second chase start later that month. Not seen since and others appeal more. Hexham winner in 2023; mainly disappointing since; plenty to prove at present. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() On We Go |
(6) 66/1(-230%) | (6) On We Go 66/1, Largely struggled since landing an Ayr handicap in February 2023 but she has fallen down the weights and stopped the slide when third at Sedgefield (27f, heavy) on final start of last season. Couldn't be sure that she'll build on that here following a 11-month absence, though. Veteran; third at Sedgefield in February last year; absent since; perhaps best watched. |
Prince Nino was no match for the winner when filling the runner-up spot at Sedgefield on Boxing Day, but that was a better effort and he could have a say off an unchanged mark. However, it's hard to ignore the claims of MISTER SMARTY, who justified joint-favouritism at Wetherby to supplement a victory here. Tina Jackson's eight-year-old is only a further 3lb higher and can complete the hat-trick. Brian Hughes keeps the partnership with On We Go intact on her comeback and she completes the shortlist.
MISTER SMARTY has returned thriving and has the right circumstances (best in well-run races) again, so he's fancied to complete the hat-trick. It looks wide open otherwise, with cases to be made for plenty, although Prince Nino looks the pick of the opposition.
Although Mister Smarty is the one to beat, preference is for WESTERDALE who is taken to get off the mark on his handicap debut.

![]() Fishery Lane |
(6) 10/11(+52%) | (6) Fishery Lane 10/11, Lightly-raced maiden under Rules. Third of 14 in novice hurdle (evens) at this course (23.2f, good to soft) on hurdles bow 33 days ago. Open to improvement for top yard and he's one to consider. Champion bumper 5th but turned over at short odds twice since; needs to jump better. |

![]() Quantum Quest |
(9) 11/4(-57%) | (9) Quantum Quest 11/4, Promising type. 9/1, fifth of 18 in novice hurdle at Naas (19.5f, good to soft) on NH debut 31 days ago. Sets the bar pretty high. Behind Shuffle The Deck in point and a maiden hurdle; form working out and should improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Along The Way |
(2) 9/2(+36%) | (2) Along The Way 9/2, Twice-raced maiden. Fourth of 19 in novice hurdle (14/1) at Navan (16f, soft) 40 days ago. Up in trip and he is another with an each-way chance. Fell early on rules bow but 4th at Navan was more like it and return to this trip may suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Grimaud |
(1) 10/1(-122%) | (1) Grimaud 10/1, Fairly useful Flat winner. Twice-raced maiden. Third of 16 in novice hurdle (5/1) at Navan (16f, soft) 40 days ago. Up in trip and he's an each-way candidate. Yard also represented by Battleoftheboyne and Jersey Des Brosses. Won twice in France before 55,000eu sale; 3rd in 2 maiden hurdles since; gives weight away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Jersey Des Brosses |
(7) 16/1(-129%) | (7) Jersey Des Brosses 16/1, Thrice-raced maiden under Rules. 7/2, ninth of 11 in novice hurdle at Naas (16f, good to soft) on hurdles bow 67 days ago. Up in trip and tongue strap on for 1st time. 2nd in point before £370,000 sale; beaten fav in bumpers twice and well held on hurdle bow. |

![]() John The Spark |
(8) 25/1(+11%) | (8) John The Spark 25/1, Modest hurdler. 14/1, eighteenth of 20 in handicap hurdle at this C&D (soft) 15 days ago. Opposable. 3-time point winner; promise in maiden hurdles; struggled in h'caps off 105 since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Slieve Annilog |
(10) 25/1(+11%) | (10) Slieve Annilog 25/1, Once-raced maiden. Sixth of 10 in novice hurdle (150/1) at Leopardstown (19.8f, good) on NH debut 18 days ago. Others make more appeal. Point winner; shaped okay when 6th in Leopardstown maiden hurdle; should improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Be Positive |
(4) 100/1(-100%) | (4) Be Positive 100/1, €20,000 3-y-o, Mount Nelson gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler Another Mattie and fair hurdler/chaser Menindee. Made the frame a couple of times between the flags but opposable on Rules debut. Hasn't threatened in four points and has a tough task on rules bow. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Ellis Mor |
(5) 150/1(+0%) | (5) Ellis Mor 150/1, Once-raced maiden. 10/1, pulled up in novice hurdle at Limerick (19f, soft) on NH debut 18 days ago, beaten early final circuit. Cheekpieces on for 1st time. Just 10s for his debut but beaten a long way out before pulling up; best watched for now. |
FISHERY LANE may appreciate dropping back in trip here having faded a bit late on on his hurdling debut at Fairyhouse last month. That came over 2m7f and he comes back three furlongs now. The Gemix gelding showed plenty of ability in bumpers, finishing fifth at Cheltenham, and is entitled to improve a bit from his initial outing over timber. Quantum Quest shaped nicely on his 'track' debut when fifth to Shuffle The Deck at Naas and with that experience under his belt he could play a bigger part. Grimaud has been placed on both his outings over timber and is another that has to come into the mix.
QUANTUM QUEST shaped with plenty of promise in a big-field Naas maiden hurdle on his Rules debut last month and, with improvement on the cards, he looks the way to go. Fishery Lane also made an encouraging start in this sphere when third at this course and he is next on the list ahead of Along The Way and Grimaud.
QUANTUM QUEST shaped with promise on his rules debut, a race that has worked out okay and should improve form that first rules outing

![]() Ascending Lark |
(2) 9/4(-105%) | (2) Ascending Lark 9/4, Fair form at best in trio of bumpers in Ireland and comes here having readily landed each of her 2 starts in mares' maiden/novice hurdles at around 2m during the spring. Big player now handicapping on return with prospect of more to come. 2-2 for this yard; returns from absence but brings potential into handicaps. |

![]() Ironed Out |
(5) 3/1(+45%) | (5) Ironed Out 3/1, Only narrowly denied at Fakenham before Christmas and confirmed improvement shown then when winning 10-runner handicap hurdle at Taunton (16.5f) 8 days ago. Respected under a penalty given she's still low-mileage from a handicapping perspective. Won at Taunton last week and this unexposed 5yo is respected under a 7lb penalty. |

![]() Roaring Home |
(4) 4/1(+60%) | (4) Roaring Home 4/1, Plenty of promise in 3 bumper starts and perfect start over hurdles when bagging Exeter mares' maiden (16.7f) on return in October. Struck into when pulled up at Newbury next time but below form when fourth of 8 in novice hurdle at Kelso (20.9f) 39 days ago. Handicap debut. Possible excuses the last twice but needs to get back on track on handicap debut. |

![]() Hard As Nails |
(3) 11/2(-10%) | (3) Hard As Nails 11/2, Progressed a bit to make a successful handicap debut after 3 months off at Stratford (18.5f, good to soft) in October. Appeared to find test too much when fourth in testing conditions at Sandown (19.8f) 6 weeks ago and she appeals as the type to bounce back. Won on handicap debut then faded over 2m4f at Sandown; retains potential back down in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Culligran |
(6) 7/1(-8%) | (6) Culligran 7/1, Found improvement when getting off the mark in 8-runner handicap hurdle at Hereford (16.2f) in November. Respectable efforts from inflated mark both starts subsequently around there and handicapper has relinquished his grip a little ahead of this. Some good form at Hereford in recent months and she might not be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Victoria Milano |
(1) 10/1(+0%) | (1) Victoria Milano 10/1, Dual hurdles winner (including here) who reportedly bled when pulled up on final start of last season here (23.8f) in April. Easy to back and shaped as if better for the run on last month's reappearance when sixth in handicap at Aintree (20f) 3 weeks ago. Better expected back down in trip. May have needed her recent reappearance outing and this course winner is not written off. |
ASCENDING LARK hasn't looked back since joining the Harry Derham stable after completing a double in good style at Huntingdon last April, and she now makes her handicap debut. The daughter of Great Pretender could have plenty more to offer on only her third start over hurdles and can defy her opening mark of 113. Ironed Out got her head in front for the first time at Taunton eight days ago and holds an obvious chance, while Hard As Nails looks best of the rest.
ASCENDING LARK made a fine start for the Harry Derham yard when winning each of her 2 starts in maiden/novice company back in the spring and, appealing as the type to go on improving further now handicapping, she's fancied to make a bold bid to bring up the hat-trick back from 8 months off. Hard As Nails rates a likely type to bounce back from her Sandown effort and is a threat, as is Taunton scorer Ironed Out.
Handicap newcomer ASCENDING LARK (nap) is 2-2 over hurdles and for Harry Derham and can make a winning comeback.

![]() Billy Boi Blue |
(3) 16/1(-100%) | (3) Billy Boi Blue 16/1, Bumper winner for Fergal O'Brien who boasts a positive profile over hurdles for this yard, winning 3m handicap here in October. Came in last of 3 on his Doncaster chase debut and not ruled out quickly reverted to this sphere. Impressed in his final hurdle off 6lb lower; made mistakes on chase debut next time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Hardy Fella |
(10) 18/1(+55%) | (10) Hardy Fella 18/1, Scored over fences at Fontwell in 2023 but generally out of sorts since and a more compelling case can be made for most of his rivals. Slipping down the weights but needs to turn a corner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Grozni |
(1) 20/1(-122%) | (1) Grozni 20/1, Change of headgear when gaining his first win for his current yard in handicap hurdle at Wetherby (21.2f, soft) 21 days ago. Up 5 lb but not taken lightly with visor again sported. In a first-time visor when edging home in a 2m5f handicap at Wetherby; stays 3m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Small Present |
(9) 40/1(-186%) | (9) Small Present 40/1, Useful stayer over hurdles but his chase efforts in early 2023 for Sue Smith proved disappointing. Resumes after 21 months off with his fitness to prove for new yard. New trainer could get him back on track but market confidence would be welcomed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Storm Dennis |
(11) 66/1(-120%) | (11) Storm Dennis 66/1, Won 2m5f handicaps at Huntingdon and Kempton in 2022. However, tailed off third and final start in 2022/23 and absent since. Market should guide as to what's expected on first run for 21 months. Both his handicap wins came off higher marks but absent since March 2023. |
GUSTOSO relished the step up in distance when landing the spoils over an extended 3m1f at Hereford 36 days ago. A 5lb higher mark may prove on the lenient side for the six-year-old and he looks capable of following up. Phantomofthepoints looked set to regain the winning thread but for hanging badly on the run-in and finishing fourth at Chepstow latest. David Pipe's inmate is feared most, ahead of last-time-out winners Grozni and Cloud Dancer.
A few with chances but CLOUD DANCER relished the step up in trip when going in at Doncaster last time and can defy a 6 lb rise. Gustoso also remains unexposed as a stayer on the back of his Hereford success and rates a big danger though with Grozni, Lemoncello and Rivers Corner in the picture too.
Losing his focus after the last almost certainly cost PHANTOMOFTHEPOINTS (nap) the race at Chepstow but he retains staying potential.

![]() Empty Nest |
(6) 11/8(+31%) | (6) Empty Nest 11/8, 9/2 and tongue strap on for 1st time, career best when winning 7-runner handicap chase at Wetherby (19.4f, soft) 21 days ago. Belatedly found it all coming together last time and no reason why he won't go well again. Tongue tied first time when breaking his duck at Wetherby (2m4f) and did so by 14l; up 9lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() The Jad Factor |
(8) 4/1(+38%) | (8) The Jad Factor 4/1, Fair 20f hurdles winner ran well on final outing for Mike Smith and was given a considerate return from 20 months off when fourth at Wetherby last month. Cheekpieces refitted and he's on a good mark. Seasonal/stable debut showed something; cheekpieces back and revival may well be possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Six One Nine |
(2) 7/1(+13%) | (2) Six One Nine 7/1, Really enhanced his strike rate over fences here last season, winning 3 times. Likely better for his reappearance at Sedgefield and handicapper has eased him 2 lb since, so looks a big player back under ideal conditions. Three chase wins (one 2m4f) here last term; not disgraced in November after 200 days off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Iwa |
(9) 8/1(+43%) | (9) Iwa 8/1, Fair hurdler/chaser in France but has failed to match that form following 7 starts on these shores. Bit to prove. 0-8 in Britain; has come way down the weights but others still have more pressing claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Treaty Boy |
(4) 10/1(-43%) | (4) Treaty Boy 10/1, Made a winning chase debut at Catterick in February on final run for Rebecca Menzies and back to that sort of form on fourth start for current yard lately, shaping best (suffered overreach) when fifth at Hexham last time. Solid claims. Respectable on last two completions; has had excuses previously at this sort of trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Great Raffles |
(12) 12/1(+45%) | (12) Great Raffles 12/1, Recorded back-to-back wins over hurdles (including at this course) to end 2021/22 but disappointing so far over fences. Way below form in his five races since switched to fences, absent 288 days before latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Wotsmyname |
(11) 14/1(+72%) | (11) Wotsmyname 14/1, Poor maiden who has offered little in 3 outings since returning from a long absence. Big outsider. Fourth race since a long absence; well down the weights but there have to be doubts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Heads Or Harps |
(5) 14/1(-133%) | (5) Heads Or Harps 14/1, Showed form once in four starts over hurdles for Michael Scudamore but has a background in points and a feasible mark, so well worth a market check starting out for new yard after almost 2 years off. Lacks solid claims for this chase debut after 668 days off but he is very lightly raced. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Brickadank |
(10) 33/1(-106%) | (10) Brickadank 33/1, Took thirty-seven attempts to get off the mark before recording back-to-back wins at Market Rasen in the spring. Must be respected in hat-trick bid. Very easy to back and not in the same form returning from 9 months off there last month. Longstanding maiden before wins at Market Rasen last February/March; pulled up on return. |
The application of a tongue-tie seemed to make all the difference for EMPTY NEST, who routed the opposition at Wetherby on Boxing Day. If in a similar mood, a 9lb rise may not be insurmountable for the seven-year-old. Any market support for chasing debutant Heads Or Harps on his first appearance since March 2023 would make him of considerable interest, while The Jad Factor wasn't disgraced when returning from a spell on the sidelines at Wetherby and could have more to offer.
SIX ONE NINE has a superb record here and should be spot on following a respectable return at Sedgefield, so he gets the nod ahead of Treaty Boy, who shaped best for a long way last time. Empty Nest only won a weak race at Wetherby 3 weeks ago but he remains on a feasible mark.
Following his runaway win at Wetherby, EMPTY NEST (nap) is selected to follow up from The Jad Factor and Six One Nine.

(3) 5/2(+29%) | (3) Duffys Hodey 5/2, 1 win from 3 runs this season. 3/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, ran at least as well in defeat when third of 18 in handicap hurdle at Limerick (19f, soft) 18 days ago. Likely to continue in form. 2nd on return before going one better at Clonmel and stayed on nicely since; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Heidi's Frontiere |
(12) 13/2(+24%) | (12) Heidi's Frontiere 13/2, Took a step back in the right direction after 8 months off when fourth of 14 in handicap hurdle (33/1) at Cork (16.2f, soft) just under 5 weeks ago. Back up in trip. Player if able to build on that. Unplaced in 8 starts; signs this mark may be workable at Cork last month; up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Coco Lightning |
(13) 8/1(-45%) | (13) Coco Lightning 8/1, 10/1, disappointed back up in trip when seventh of 13 in handicap chase at Kilbeggan (19.9f, good) 6 months ago. Switches from chase to hurdles. First run for yard after leaving Thomas P. O'Connor. Tongue strap back on. Not at her best over fences last summer; 0-11 over timber and may need this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Rebelle Chaud |
(15) 8/1(-33%) | (15) Rebelle Chaud 8/1, Remains a maiden after 17 NH runs but arrives in good order. 12/1, third of 13 in handicap hurdle at this C&D (good to soft) 33 days ago. Looks competitive on form. 0-17 but back to her best with 2 recent placed efforts and only beaten 3l over C&D latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Ivane |
(14) 9/1(-80%) | (14) Ivane 9/1, Unreliable type. Thirteen runs since last win in 2023. Tongue strap on for 1st time, turned in best effort of the season when third of 15 in handicap hurdle at Tramore (21.6f, heavy, 9/2) just over 2 weeks ago. 1lb above last winning mark and signs of a revival when distant 3rd on New Year's Day. |

(1) 11/1(-29%) | (1) Silas Marner 11/1, Well-beaten sixth of 21 in maiden hurdle at Naas (16f, heavy, 150/1) 11 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Up in trip. Makes handicap hurdle debut. Needs keeping a close eye on in the betting. 0-15; but not without promise in maiden hurdles recently; unproven at trip; h'cap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Blue Reed |
(2) 11/1(+45%) | (2) Blue Reed 11/1, 8/1, didn't get home over the longer trip when sixth of 11 in handicap hurdle at Limerick (24.4f, soft) a couple of months ago. Back down in trip. 0-13; well held in h'caps since joining new yard; best watched back down to 2m4f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Party Pack |
(6) 12/1(+64%) | (6) Party Pack 12/1, Went backwards from reappearance when pulled up in handicap hurdle (18/1) at this course (24.5f, soft) just over 2 weeks ago. Others more persuasive. 0-6; 9th behind Duffys Hodey on return but was pulled up since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Lariat |
(11) 14/1(+0%) | (11) Lariat 14/1, Remains a maiden after 18 NH runs. Eighth of 19 in handicap hurdle (12/1) at Punchestown (23.8f, soft) just over 5 weeks ago. Others obviously more appealing from a win perspective but could well make the frame. 0-18 over timber; went close over C&D in November; lesser effort at 3m since but respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Deep Sigh |
(7) 20/1(+0%) | (7) Deep Sigh 20/1, 20/1, sixth of 12 in handicap hurdle at this C&D (good to soft) 33 days ago. Looks more or less exposed in this sphere now. Flat winner but 0-7 over hurdles and shown very little in three handicaps this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Ag Obair Go Crua |
(4) 20/1(+39%) | (4) Ag Obair Go Crua 20/1, 33/1, pulled up in handicap hurdle at Limerick (19f, soft) 18 days ago, weakening after 3 out. Well held in trio of maiden hurdles and pulled up on handicap debut; enough to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Shanroe Nancy |
(8) 25/1(-25%) | (8) Shanroe Nancy 25/1, Well held in 3 maiden hurdles. Back up in trip for handicap debut and needs to show plenty more. Tailed off in trio of maiden hurdle starts and his jumping needs to improve on h'cap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Fortuna Lora |
(9) 28/1(-40%) | (9) Fortuna Lora 28/1, Never-dangerous eighth of 18 in handicap hurdle (50/1) at Punchestown (16.4f, heavy) 16 days ago. Back up in trip. Well held in maiden hurdles and hasn't shown enough since switching to h'caps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Kyle Valley |
(10) 33/1(+18%) | (10) Kyle Valley 33/1, Again ran poorly when pulled up in handicap hurdle at this course (24.5f, soft, 40/1) just over 2 weeks ago, weakening approaching home turn. Dual point winner but shown nothing for new yard, including when pulled up on h'cap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Olord |
(5) 40/1(+20%) | (5) Olord 40/1, Offered little after 4 months off when eleventh of 18 in handicap hurdle (66/1) at Limerick (16f, soft) just under 3 weeks ago. Back up in trip. Shown nothing for this yard since returning from a lengthy absence. |
DUFFYS HODEY is only a pound higher than when third at Limerick over Christmas and looks capable of landing a moderate enough contest. The Well Chosen gelding had been a cosy winner at Clonmel previously and comes here in fine form. The lightly-weighted Rebelle Chaud looks another with an obvious chance after a coupe of solid runs. She remains on the same mark after a decent effort to finish third over course and distance last month. Ivane is another with solid recent placed form that has to come into calculations.
Plenty in with a squeak but the suggestion is DUFFYS HODEY, who opened his account at Clonmel last month and ran just as well in first-time cheekpieces when third in another big-field handicap at Limerick subsequently. Rebelle Chaud is a long-standing maiden, but she arrives in top form so heads up the opposition, with Ivane and Silas Marner another couple worth keeping a close eye on, too.
DUFFYS HODEY (nap) arrives in better form than most having been in the first 3 thrice this term and he stayed on well for 3rd last time

![]() Bardenstown Lad |
(1) 2/1(+0%) | (1) Bardenstown Lad 2/1, Winner of a handicap hurdle and maiden chase for Gavin Cromwell at Kilbeggan in 2024. Won't be found wanting fitness-wise following a couple of spins between the flags last month but likely to have his work cut out here against Jet Plane and Eva's Oskar, if those rivals are on-song. Seven-time rules winner who went close in a recent point; warrants serious consideration. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Jet Plane |
(2) 9/4(-38%) | (2) Jet Plane 9/4, Back-to-back winner of handicap chases at Sandown and Market Rasen last spring, and positive start to this season when third of 8 at Wetherby in October. Shouldn't be judged too harshly on latest effort at Kempton during the Christmas period and he's a key player on this hunter debut. Below par in handicaps the last twice but a leading player now dropped into a hunter chase. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Eva's Oskar |
(3) 9/4(-29%) | (3) Eva's Oskar 9/4, Likeable chaser who landed a valuable Cheltenham handicap a couple of seasons back. Didn't shape badly at Chepstow on his sole appearance last term and will prove a tough nut to crack now pitched into a hunter chase if anywhere near his best following a 15-month absence. 11yo who returns from an absence but he'll be a major contender if retaining his ability. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Solomon Grey |
(4) 14/1(+36%) | (4) Solomon Grey 14/1, Back-to-back hunter winner in April 2022 but hasn't tasted success since and this 13-y-o is opposable. Useful C&D winner in his prime but this 13yo wasn't the force of old last spring. |
JET PLANE has struggled in handicap company the last twice but he was a close third in a competitive event at Wetherby in October off a mark of 135. A repeat of that level of form would make him hard to beat in this company. Eva's Oskar has not had much racing of late but should not be underestimated on his return, while Bardenstown Lad completes the shortlist.
EVA'S OSKAR's record when fresh is pretty decent and while he probably needs a stiffer test than this nowadays, the 11-y-o should outclass these if resuming from a break in good order. Jet Plane is readily preferred to Irish import Bardenstown Lad for forecast purposes.
Preference is for EVA'S OSKAR on his first run since October 2023. He has a very good chance if he retains a fair chunk of his ability.

Up 5 lb but has more to offer. Big shout. 2-2 over fences and emerged from the gloom with a clear lead at Chepstow; up another 5lb. |

![]() King Turgeon |
(1) 9/2(-50%) | (1) King Turgeon 9/2, Had another breathing op and has taken his form to a new level this term, completing his hat-trick in 3m2f Cheltenham handicap last month. Earlier put in a superb jumping display to bag Grand Sefton at Aintree. Likely player once more. On a roll after wind surgery and hard to know where this 7yo's limitations might lie. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Sizable Sam |
(9) 7/1(+30%) | (9) Sizable Sam 7/1, Low-mileage sort who returned to form when third of 11 in handicap chase at Exeter (24.2f, soft) 28 days ago. Needs considering eased 1 lb here. He's a one-paced galloper who kept on to finish a 12l third last time at Exeter (3m). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() My Silver Lining |
(5) 8/1(+0%) | (5) My Silver Lining 8/1, Course winner who comes here on the back of a creditable third of 13 in handicap chase at Hereford (25.2f, soft) 26 days ago, sticking to task. In the picture with cheekpieces on for the 1st time. Never that threatening when third at Hereford; cheekpieces could give her a lift. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Credo |
(8) 10/1(+0%) | (8) Credo 10/1, Has done his winning in small fields and got back on track when fourth of 9 in 25f handicap chase at Haydock last time. Worth a second look with blinkers added. Better last time at Haydock and good chance, assuming that she takes to the new blinkers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Take Your Time |
(7) 12/1(-41%) | (7) Take Your Time 12/1, Course winner who shaped encouragingly after 7 months off when third of 9 in handicap chase at Haydock (25.6f, heavy) 54 days ago. Can make his presence felt. Could have needed the run when a 21l third in a good staying chase at Haydock. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Collectors Item |
(3) 14/1(-87%) | (3) Collectors Item 14/1, Scored at Uttoxeter in May and got back on track when second of 10 in handicap chase at Sandown (28.7f, soft) 40 days ago. In the mix. Hasn't always followed one good run with another but he's got the tools for the job. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() The Big Breakaway |
(6) 22/1(+12%) | (6) The Big Breakaway 22/1, Twenty runs since his last win in 2020 and he was pulled up in handicap chase at Haydock (28.4f, soft) 17 days ago. Others are preferred. He's become wickedly hard to win with and races lazily these days; happy to take on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Ballygrifincottage |
(2) 25/1(-79%) | (2) Ballygrifincottage 25/1, It's now 11 runs since his last win in 2022 but this very useful chaser wasn't disgraced when sixth of 8 to King Turgeon in handicap chase at Cheltenham (26f, good to soft) 34 days ago. Ought to be in the shake-up. Mistakes again held him back when never dangerous behind King Turgeon at Cheltenham. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Ask Me Early |
(4) 28/1(-100%) | (4) Ask Me Early 28/1, Temperamental sort who resumed with a below-par fifth of 10 in handicap chase at Bangor (24.1f, soft) 64 days ago. Something to find on form. Hard to predict and a bit to prove after a 22l defeat at Bangor two months ago. |
There has been no stopping KING TURGEON of late, as he completed his hat-trick in fine style when landing a premier handicap at Cheltenham last month. With things clicking into place for David Pipe's seven-year-old, it's hard to imagine he's reached his ceiling yet. Katate Dori, now two from two over fences following his recent Chepstow triumph, is 5lb well-in and must be respected. Collectors Item finished second in the London National at Sandown and he is another to consider.
KATATE DORI has created an excellent impression since sent over fences and a 5 lb rise for his comfortable Chepstow victory doesn't look sufficient to prevent him from going 3-3. David Pipe's resurgent King Turgeon rates the obvious threat in his bid to complete a four-timer, although the likes of Take Your Time, Ballygrifincottage and Collectors Item can all have a say too in this cracking handicap.
Viewing was limited at Chepstow but KATATE DORI emerged from the gloom to win as he liked and this 7yo might be going places.

(1) 15/8(+17%) | (1) Blue Carpet 15/8, Blue Bresil brother to 2¼m hurdle winner Yosille, and half-brother to 3 winners, including fair hurdler Miguel Angel. 13/2, did well under circumstances when winning Carlisle bumper 3 months ago, well on top finish having been patiently ridden. Respected under a penalty. Won tactical race at Carlisle on debut and ought to play another major role here. |

![]() Geordie Mackem |
(2) 7/2(-75%) | (2) Geordie Mackem 7/2, Shaped well behind an Olly Murphy-trained pair of debutants first time up at Wetherby 3 weeks ago after being gambled on. Should come on for that and leading claims. Unable to justify favouritism but still made promising debut when third of 12 at Wetherby. |

![]() Stride On |
(7) 7/2(+22%) | (7) Stride On 7/2, €44,000 3-y-o, Walk In The Park gelding. Brother to fairly useful hurdler Kiltealy Park. 12/1, shaped very much like a stayer when third of 7 in Ayr bumper on debut in October. The first 2 then have won since so he can't be overlooked. Kept on for third on debut at Ayr in October behind two next-time-out winners. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Soldier In Mayo |
(6) 11/2(+8%) | (6) Soldier In Mayo 11/2, £40,000 4-y-o, Soldier of Fortune gelding. Dam fairly useful hurdler (2m-2½m winner). Successful on second of 2 starts in Irish points (Nov 3). Needs keeping a close eye on. Bought for £40,000 after Irish point win in November; no surprise if he features. |

![]() Pillar The Poet |
(5) 11/1(+31%) | (5) Pillar The Poet 11/1, Half-brother to numerous winners, including fair chaser Elleon. Last of 8 finishers sole start in Irish points (Apr 2024). Well held on last year's Irish point debut but still worth a market check here. |

![]() La Tarantaise |
(3) 20/1(-25%) | (3) La Tarantaise 20/1, Milan gelding. Half-brother to fair hurdler/fairly useful chaser Mance Rayder, stays 31f. From a good jumps family and one to note. Has had a breathing operation. Out of half-sister to smart jumper J'Y Vole; has fairly good standard to reach on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Cosmic Jet |
(10) 40/1(-21%) | (10) Cosmic Jet 40/1, 10/1, well held in Bangor bumper on debut last month. Safely held on debut (soft ground); might be seen to better effect on this surface. |
There was plenty to like about BLUE CARPET's debut victory at Carlisle in October. The son of Blue Bresil travelled well throughout the contest before showing a nice attitude in the closing stages and he is taken to defy a 7lb penalty. Geordie Mackem was sent off favourite for his first start, when placed at Wetherby, and he enters calculations. Others to note are Soldier In Mayo and Stride On.
GEORDIE MACKEM made a bright start at Wetherby 3 weeks ago and could see off penalised Carlisle-winner Blue Carpet. Soldier In Mayo is a newcomer to note.
Stride On was third in a good race at Ayr in October but Wetherby third GEORDIE MACKEM may have more speed and is preferred.

Has a useful pedigree and is in good hands; could play a leading role on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Shotgun Shirley |
(10) 5/1(-11%) | (10) Shotgun Shirley 5/1, Soldier of Fortune filly. Half-sister to 4 winners, including useful hurdler Martello Sky and fair hurdler/useful chaser Brief Ambition. Yard have had success with this family, including in bumpers, so she's got to be respected. From a family her trainer has done well with; could be a serious force on her first start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Tyger Lily |
(12) 7/1(+0%) | (12) Tyger Lily 7/1, Backed at long odds and showed definite signs of ability, despite being very much in need of experience, first time up at Newbury 4 weeks ago. Entitled to improve. Green when fifth on last month's debut at Newbury; open to improvement; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Girl Of Gold |
(7) 7/1(+13%) | (7) Girl Of Gold 7/1, Well held in Stratford and Doncaster bumpers. Work to do. Fair fifth on first two runs but vulnerable if any of the newcomers are above average. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Gaelic Saint |
(6) 10/1(+9%) | (6) Gaelic Saint 10/1, Saint des Saints filly. Dam, French hurdler (19f winner), half-sister to French hurdler/chase winner (17f/2¼m winner) Gaelic Ocean. Not discounted on debut. Stable won a jumper bumper at Hereford with a 25-1 newcomer last month; possible contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Analiese |
(2) 12/1(+0%) | (2) Analiese 12/1, £18,000 3-y-o, Harzand filly. Dam, 1½m-1¾m winner, half-sister to useful hurdler/fairly useful chaser in France (17f-19f winner) Angel's Share. Worth a look on debut. £18,000 3yo; first foal; dam useful 1m4f/1m6f Flat winner; not ruled out on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Tullow Troop |
(11) 16/1(+0%) | (11) Tullow Troop 16/1, Jack Hobbs filly. Dam 2½m/21f hurdle winner, half-sister to smart hurdler/very smart chaser (2m-3m winner) Black Hercules. Trainer 2-11 in bumpers this season and it will be no surprise to see a good run on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Pepper Queen |
(9) 33/1(+34%) | (9) Pepper Queen 33/1, 20/1, green and well beaten in Ludlow bumper 6 weeks ago. 20-1 when tailed off on last month's debut over C&D; lots of improvement is needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Daffodil |
(4) 50/1(+0%) | (4) Daffodil 50/1, Flat bred and well beaten on debut in listed Cheltenham bumper (80/1) on New Year's Day. Tough task on recent debut at Cheltenham but was tailed off at 80-1. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Adaay Dancing |
(1) 66/1(+34%) | (1) Adaay Dancing 66/1, By no means certain to stay the trip on pedigree and gave herself little chance of doing so in any case as she pulled hard and finished well beaten in Wincanton bumper (100/1) 6 weeks ago. Hood goes on now. Half-sister to 3 Flat winners but tailed off at 100-1 on last month's debut at Wincanton. |
Girl Of Gold and Tyger Lily are the pick of those with racecourse experience but the level they set is not very high. As a result, preference is for AND SHE WAS, who is closely related to plenty of winners and her yard do well in bumpers. Oracle Park is another noteworthy debutant and any market support for her would have to be noted.
This can go to a newcomer, with SHOTGUN SHIRLEY chanced over And She Was and Oracle Park before market clues.
Top of the list is the newcomer SHOTGUN SHIRLEY, who hails from a family her trainer Lucy Wadham has done well with.

![]() Ink Black Heart |
(10) 11/1(+45%) | (10) Ink Black Heart 11/1, Falco gelding. Dam lightly raced on Flat. Yard get bumper winners and the booking of Sean Bowen catches the eye. Flat bred; trainer has occasional bumper success and Sean Bowen is booked. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Neon Madonna |
(8) 22/1(-83%) | (8) Neon Madonna 22/1, Telescope mare. Dam 2m-3m hurdle/chase winner. One to note. First foal of mare who won a bumper and progressed to be smart over hurdles/fences. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() She That Shares |
(9) 300/1(-200%) | (9) She That Shares 300/1, Mizzou mare. Half-sister to 4 winners, including Amadeon. Dam 1½m winner. Wears tongue strap. Bred to have enough speed for this test. Half-sister to four winners; likely to be outclassed in what's probably a useful bumper. |
The market should be a useful indicator and 200,000-pound purchase Necronaut is likely to prove popular for the Paul Nicholls team. However, preference is for BOSSMAN JACK. The son of Jack Hobbs is a half-brother to four winners, most notably the useful Gidleigh Park, and it would come as no surprise were he up to the task on debut. Others to note include Bara Tara and Kop Land.
No form to go on but some of the top yards represented, with £200,000 buy NECRONAUT selected over Bossman Jack and Kop Land before betting clues.
The eyes are drawn to the £200,000 that NECRONAUT fetched last year and his dam is from the family of Denman.

![]() Easily Convinced |
(5) 2/5(+85%) | (5) Easily Convinced 2/5, Kodi Bear gelding who knew his job and showed a good attitude when third of 13 in novice at Kempton (7f) on debut 8 days ago, headed final 100 yds and keeping on. Looks capable of building on that and he's one for the shortlist. Promising third in Kempton event last week, faring best of the newcomers; leading claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Sonic Si |
(7) 6/1(+40%) | (7) Sonic Si 6/1, Fair gelding. Remains a maiden after 7 Flat runs. Fifth of 7 in nursery at Southwell (6.1f, 11/1) 18 days ago. In the mix for all he may be vulnerable to less exposed types. The most exposed contender and is a doubtful stayer upped further in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Dance Recital |
(9) 8/1(-7%) | (9) Dance Recital 8/1, Soldier's Call filly who was sent off at long odds but offered something to work on nevertheless when fourth of 8 in novice at this course (8f) on debut 5 days ago, keeping on final 1f. Entitled to progress. Ran encouragingly under 7lb apprentice here last Saturday; Hollie Doyle takes over. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Mullwarchar |
(4) 12/1(-100%) | (4) Mullwarchar 12/1, Bred for longer trips but showed ability amidst greenness in pair of outings to date, fifth of 9 in maiden at Lingfield (8f, AW, 9/2) 13 days ago, running on. Drop back in trip doesn't look ideal on qualifying run and handicaps over 1¼m+ will be more his bag. Ran well last time despite a wide trip; may do better still and has possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Rogue Officer |
(6) 16/1(-45%) | (6) Rogue Officer 16/1, Twice-raced colt. Seventh of 12 in maiden (85/40) at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 31 days ago, hanging left and weakening final 1f. Looks one for handicaps moving forward. Has created his own problems in both starts; still has learning to do. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Song Of Dubai |
(8) 16/1(-300%) | (8) Song Of Dubai 16/1, Iffraaj filly. Sixth of 10 in maiden at Wolverhampton (7.2f, 5/1) on debut 10 days ago, needing stronger gallop. In good hands and she's very much the type to improve. Showed some promise at Wolverhampton last week; interesting with progress on the cards. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Jungle Cruise |
(1) 20/1(-43%) | (1) Jungle Cruise 20/1, Bungle Inthejungle gelding. 16/1, showed only a bit making a belated debut when fifth of 9 in novice at Southwell (7.1f) 27 days ago. Likely type for handicaps further down the line. Ran to a modest RPR last month on belated debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Massimo Blue |
(3) 50/1(-213%) | (3) Massimo Blue 50/1, Sent off at 50/1 but offered a bit to work on when fifth of 11 in novice at Kempton (6f) on debut 57 days ago, unable to sustain effort. May do better. Form of Kempton effort (not far behind subsequent winners) gives cause for optimism. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Expert Elsa |
(2) 50/1(-150%) | (2) Expert Elsa 50/1, Expert Eye filly who showed more than first time up ridden positively when third of 5 in novice at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 17 days ago. However, she'll need to step up again if she's to play a lead role here. 4yo filly who appears to have a tough task on these terms. |
EASILY CONVINCED clearly knew his job when finishing third on debut at Kempton last week and the son of Kodi Bear is fancied to use the experience gained to shed the maiden tag. Mullwarchar may benefit from the return to 7f following his recent effort at Lingfield, while Song Of Dubai is capable of improvement having displayed signs of promise on her first outing at Wolverhampton.
EASILY CONVINCED's debut third at Kempton 8 days ago was an encouraging effort and with progress anticipated, Marco Botti's charge is fancied to make another bold bid here. Song of Dubai is another likely improver and rates next best ahead of Sonic Si and Dance Recital.
A few of the runners showed promise last week. EASILY CONVINCED is preferred ahead of Song Of Dubai and Dance Recital.

![]() One Horse Town |
(6) 11/8(+8%) | (6) One Horse Town 11/8, Twice-raced gelding. 13/8, pretty much matched debut form when third of 14 in maiden at Dundalk (7f) 50 days ago. Changed hands for 34,000 gns in December and he's of interest with Billy Loughnane in the plate. Showed ability in Dundalk maidens in November for Joseph O'Brien; major contender on form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Princess Pw |
(8) 15/8(+38%) | (8) Princess Pw 15/8, Bright start when runner-up first 2 starts at Musselburgh/Wolverhampton late last year. Shade disappointing when fourth of 9 in maiden at Lingfield (8f, AW) 13 days ago but a player if bouncing back. Latest effort (1m) suggests this return to 7f may prove ideal; good chance on earlier form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Kev |
(3) 3/1(-9%) | (3) Kev 3/1, Land Force gelding who was seen to good effect but improved on his debut run nevertheless when second of 12 in maiden (10/1) at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 31 days ago, well positioned. Not out of things. Out of a 7f AW winner; close second upped to this trip at Wolverhampton last time; player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Kazakh |
(2) 16/1(-45%) | (2) Kazakh 16/1, Twice-raced gelding. Showed more than on debut when third of 10 in novice (17/2) at Lingfield (7f, AW) 16 days ago. Needs another run for a mark. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Placed at Lingfield on New Year's Eve but needs further progress to get off the mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Blue Eclipse |
(5) 20/1(-67%) | (5) Blue Eclipse 20/1, Oasis Dream colt. 33/1, fifth of 9 in novice at Southwell (8.1f) on debut 56 days ago, weakening final 1f. Probably needs more time. May improve on Southwell effort with this drop in distance a possible plus. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() My Friend Charles |
(4) 28/1(+15%) | (4) My Friend Charles 28/1, Once-raced gelding. Showed only greenness when ninth of 12 in novice (66/1) at Wolverhampton (7.2f) on debut 20 days ago. Passed over. Failed to figure in 7f event at Wolverhampton. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Willow's Kiss |
(1) 100/1(0%) | (1) Willow's Kiss 100/1, 2,000 gns yearling, Twilight Son filly. Dam 7f/1m winner. Showed only greenness when last of 9 in a C&D novice on debut 6 in July and she's best watched conceding weight all round on the back of 6 months off. Failed to beat a rival in C&D contest last July. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Scammer |
(7) 250/1(-279%) | (7) Scammer 250/1, Once-raced gelding. 200/1, last of 13 in novice at Kempton (8f) on debut 43 days ago, slowly into stride and never a threat. Failed to beat a rival at Kempton for an inauspicious debut. |
One Horse Town commands plenty of respect on his first start for Harry Derham after reaching the frame twice at Dundalk in November. The vote, though, goes to KEV, who stepped forward from his debut when beaten a neck at Wolverhampton last month and a repeat of that performance would make him a tough nut to crack. Princess Pw and Kazakh are others worthy of consideration.
ONE HORSE TOWN holds good claims on the pick of his form in 2 starts for Joseph O'Brien and, starting out for another shrewd outfit, he could be the way to go with Billy Loughnane aboard. Princess Pw and Kev rate next best.
Being favoured by the weights, PRINCESS PW is worth another chance. Kev and One Horse Town are the other main form contenders.

(3) 1/2(+38%) | (3) Star Pupil 1/2, 10/3 and blinkered for 1st time, creditable third of 8 in handicap at Lingfield (7f, AW) 13 days ago, running on. Player off a 1 lb lower mark with headgear again sported. Ran encouragingly with blinkers fitted last time; respected in the retained headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Capuchinero |
(2) 7/2(+50%) | (2) Capuchinero 7/2, C&D winner. Tenth of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f, 33/1) 12 days ago. Back down in trip. Cheekpieces back on. Dropped to a handy mark if back on her A-game. Sole C&D winner in the field; good chance off current mark granted a return to form. |

![]() Sonmarg |
(1) 17/2(-6%) | (1) Sonmarg 17/2, Sixteen runs since last win in 2023. 16/1, sixth of 8 in handicap at Lingfield (7f, AW) 13 days ago. More is needed. May prove resurgent dropped to Class 6 off a reduced mark; third run for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Gone Rogue |
(4) 14/1(-65%) | (4) Gone Rogue 14/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2023. First run since leaving Charlie Johnston when last of 11 in handicap at Lingfield (10f, AW, 16/1) 25 days ago. Back down in trip. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Possibilities provided he takes well to cheekpieces; second start for new stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Go Wild |
(5) 16/1(-191%) | (5) Go Wild 16/1, Winner at Lingfield in September. 80/1, creditable third of 4 in handicap at Lingfield (7f, AW) 7 days ago, well positioned. In the mix. Belied her 80-1 odds at Lingfield last week, producing her best handicap effort. |
STAR PUPIL produced his best effort for a while when finishing third at Lingfield at the start of the month. Richard Hughes' gelding was tried in blinkers for the first time on that occasion and this may be the time to strike if the headgear has the same effect. Sonmarg was running well off higher marks during the autumn and is capable of being in the mix, along with Capuchinero.
STAR PUPIL rates the pick of these weights so is taken to build on his recent Lingfield third and resume winning ways. Go Wild looks the one to give Richard Hughes' 4-y-o most to do ahead of Capuchinero.
Dropped back in grade with the blinkers retained, STAR PUPIL has particularly good claims. Capuchinero is second choice.

(1) 8/11(+58%) | (1) Jesse Luc 8/11, 6/5, career best when cosily winning 7-runner minor event at this C&D 5 days ago. Expected to be bang there. Keeping busy switched to classified level this year; scored over C&D most recently. |

(4) 9/2(+55%) | (4) Lord Danielson 9/2, C&D winner. Winner here in January. Respectable fourth of 11 in handicap (5/1) at this C&D 5 days ago. Hood/cheekpieces back on and not ruled out. Won and fourth in C&D handicaps last week; faces a harder task on these terms. |

![]() Tilsworth Ony Ta |
(6) 15/2(-25%) | (6) Tilsworth Ony Ta 15/2, C&D winner. 9/2, creditable fifth of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 17 days ago. In the picture. Just 2-28 on AW but he's in form and has possibilities on these terms. |

![]() War Zone |
(7) 9/1(-227%) | (7) War Zone 9/1, Course winner. Winner here in October. 9/1, creditable second of 9 in handicap at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 31 days ago. Can go well again. Recent 5f form includes a course win; went close over 6f here last summer; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Sassy Redhead |
(5) 9/1(-13%) | (5) Sassy Redhead 9/1, C&D winner. 6/1, ninth of 10 in handicap at Lingfield (6f, AW) 25 days ago. Others appeal more. Good chance at the weights granted a resurgent display; four-time AW winner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Believe It |
(2) 20/1(-67%) | (2) Believe It 20/1, Respectable sixth of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (7.2f, 16/1) 21 days ago. Needs considering. Sister to a 6f winner for her connections and looks interesting back at this trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Jumira Bridge |
(3) 100/1(-203%) | (3) Jumira Bridge 100/1, 3-time C&D winner. Last of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f, 33/1) 17 days ago so needs to get back on track. Veteran who is a multiple AW scorer but needs to stage a major revival. |
Jesse Luc landed a similar C&D event last weekend but, although respected, he may struggle conceding weight to WAR ZONE. Chelsea Banham's charge was narrowly denied in a handicap at Wolverhampton last month, having been on target over 5f here in October, and looks to hold strong claims down into a classified event. Believe It has few miles on the clock and while she would need to improve, a drop in trip could aid her chance.
JESSE LUC looks the way to go on the back of his stylish recent C&D success. In-form course scorer War Zone is feared most with C&D winners Tilsworth Ony Ta and Lord Danielson also well worthy of consideration.
The suggestion is BELIEVE IT, who looks interesting with improvement plausible back at 6f. Jesse Luc is second choice.

(2) 11/8(+45%) | (2) Target Man 11/8, Lightly-raced maiden. 15/2, good second of 9 in novice at Southwell (5f) 84 days ago. Break and a gelding operation could bring more out of him. Has shown clear signs that he's up to winning a race; gelded since last run; big player. |

![]() Cressida Wildes |
(3) 6/4(+55%) | (3) Cressida Wildes 6/4, Fairly useful filly. 20/1, fourth of 6 in nursery at Newcastle (5f) 54 days ago. Makes polytrack debut. Solid claims. Engaged 5.00 Kempton Wednesday. Fighting chance at the weights but she's the most exposed contender, being 0-8. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Queenofdestruction |
(4) 3/1(+14%) | (4) Queenofdestruction 3/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Second of 7 in maiden at Wolverhampton (5.1f, evens) 12 days ago. May yet have more to offer. Disappointing the last twice but holds good claims granted a return to debut form. |
Queenofdestruction had no obvious excuses when finishing second at Wolverhampton recently but it would be surprising if she wasn't thereabouts again, while a tendency to hang continues to affect Target Man. The form of MEGAPHONE's Newmarket debut effort has worked out extremely well and he made light work of his rivals at Kempton when returning last week. The son of Kodiac should progress further and he can concede weight all round to follow up.
CRESSIDA WILDES has the best chance at the weights and ran with credit in a nursery at Newcastle last time, so she could be the one to side with in a trappy event. Megaphone is of interest after opening his account recently and a case can be made for the other two.
This race could well concern the two Boughey runners. It's a tricky call but TARGET MAN may see off Megaphone in receipt of 7lb.

(8) 2/1(+20%) | (8) Merrimack 2/1, 6/1, respectable fourth of 11 in handicap at Kempton (6f) 29 days ago. On a handy mark and deserves serious consideration in a thin race. 0-5 on AW but ran encouragingly the last twice; receives weight all round; possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Angle Land |
(3) 10/3(+39%) | (3) Angle Land 10/3, C&D winner. Sixth of 8 in handicap (11/2) at this C&D 42 days ago. Form has been in and out lately but can't be completely dismissed. Below par last time but recent record suggests a rebound is plausible; mark is workable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Gogo Yubari |
(7) 9/2(-80%) | (7) Gogo Yubari 9/2, Five wins from 16 runs last year. 7/2, creditable third of 8 in handicap at Lingfield (5f, AW) 13 days ago. Looks the one to beat. Ran creditably at Lingfield most recently and remains on last winning mark; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Blazes Boylan |
(2) 13/2(+54%) | (2) Blazes Boylan 13/2, Lightly-raced winner. C&D winner. 33/1, last of 10 in handicap at this C&D 68 days ago. Needs to get back on track after a break. Has regressed in two handicaps but this drop in grade may prompt a turnaround. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Antiphon |
(6) 12/1(+25%) | (6) Antiphon 12/1, Course winner. Twelve runs since last win in 2024. 33/1, first run since leaving Gay Kelleway when last of 10 in handicap at Southwell (6.1f) 12 days ago. Others preferred. Failed to beat a rival on reappearance; it remains a long time since sole AW win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Bill Plumb |
(5) 14/1(-40%) | (5) Bill Plumb 14/1, Bit below form fourth of 11 in handicap at Kempton (6f, 11/2). Off 16 months. Plenty to prove on the back of a long absence, although market support would be significant. Absent since a 2023 campaign that featured three wins over 6f; now drops to 5f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Momaer |
(1) 16/1(-14%) | (1) Momaer 16/1, 8/1, first run since leaving Mark Loughnane when last of 7 in handicap at Lingfield (6f, AW) 25 days ago. Hard to make a solid case for on the back of that. Has shaped as if this drop to 5f is worth exploring; second run back from lengthy break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Rainyniteingeorgia |
(4) 18/1(-200%) | (4) Rainyniteingeorgia 18/1, Latest win at Lingfield in December. 10/1, sixth of 8 in handicap at Lingfield (5f, AW) 13 days ago, slowly away. Could get involved if the race is run to suit. Still needs to prove she's capable of winning away from Lingfield; first run here. |
A few of these have something to prove and it looks best to side with MERRIMACK. The Stuart Williams-trained four-year-old has been running well in defeat recently and having weakened late on over 6f on his last two starts, a drop to the minimum trip might be key. Gogo Yubari made the frame at Lingfield last time out and holds obvious claims from an unchanged rating. Rainyniteingeorgia heads the remainder.
GOGO YUBARI is on a workable mark and confirmed that she's back in good order when third at Lingfield recently, so she's narrowly preferred to Merrimack, who fits a similar mould. Angle Land can get involved if she puts a sub-par effort behind her.
Nicely weighted MERRIMACK is taken to build on his December efforts and open his AW account. Gogo Yubari is feared most.

![]() Etretat |
(5) 15/8(+6%) | (5) Etretat 15/8, Course winner. Career best when winning 10-runner handicap (9/4) at Lingfield (10f, AW) 13 days ago, keeping on well. Major player. In-form 4yo who scored at Lingfield most recently; solid chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Cephalus |
(3) 2/1(+86%) | (3) Cephalus 2/1, Course winner. Four wins from 12 runs last year. Last of 12 in handicap at Kempton (7f, 28/1) 36 days ago. Significantly back up in trip and blinkers refitted. Needs to bounce back. Not in top form and again doesn't have his optimum trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Switchel |
(7) 7/2(+42%) | (7) Switchel 7/2, C&D winner in November. 16/5, creditable third of 11 in handicap at Southwell (11.1f) 28 days ago. Solid each-way claims off the same mark. Very consistent of late; respected back at the scene of her November win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Sonnerie Power |
(6) 10/1(-43%) | (6) Sonnerie Power 10/1, Eighteen runs since last win in 2023. 15/2, eighth of 11 in handicap at Newcastle (10.2f) 15 days ago. Hood back on and first-time tongue strap enlisted. Opposable. Good chance off current mark, provided he's aided by tongue-tie and reapplied hood. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Gordon Grey |
(4) 11/1(+56%) | (4) Gordon Grey 11/1, Latest win at Epsom in July. 25/1, well-beaten ninth of 10 to Etretat in handicap at Lingfield (10f, AW) 13 days ago, doing too much too soon. Clearly has work to do. Dual turf winner who still looks unfavourably treated on AW. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Warren Hill |
(2) 22/1(-100%) | (2) Warren Hill 22/1, Latest win at Windsor in July. 5/1, eighth of 9 in handicap at Lingfield (10f, AW) 58 days ago. Likely to find one or two too good. Has failed to dazzle in two starts since returned to AW. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Tiptoe |
(8) 50/1(-355%) | (8) Tiptoe 50/1, Thrice-raced winner. 5/1, last of 5 in handicap at Wolverhampton (12.2f) when last seen 7 months ago. Others make more appeal. Thrice-raced filly; absent since July; market instructive. |
A comfortable winner at Lingfield earlier in the month, ETRETAT looks capable of following up off a 5lb higher mark for his in-form stable. Placed on her last two starts over further since scoring over track and trip in November, Switchel is a leading contender, as is Arcadian Nights, who has strong claims if bouncing back to the form of his October second at Wolverhampton.
The reliable ETRETAT looked better than ever when striking at Lingfield recently and a 5 lb rise is unlikely to be enough to prevent him from going in again. Switchel is also consistent and she is feared most ahead of top-weight Arcadian Nights.
The tongue-tie/hood combination may enable SONNERIE POWER to take advantage of a reduced mark. Switchel and Etretat are solid.

![]() Union Island |
(2) 11/10(+56%) | (2) Union Island 11/10, C&D winner. Three wins from 9 runs last year, the latest at Southwell in December. Creditable third of 10 in handicap (5/2) there (8.1f) 13 days ago. Likely to be on the premises. Record of 2-4 since upped to 1m includes a C&D win; good third last time; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() The Spotlight Kid |
(4) 11/4(-38%) | (4) The Spotlight Kid 11/4, Latest win at Kempton in November. 13/2, creditable third of 10 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 26 days ago. Shortlist material. Has form figures of 113 since returned to AW, good third at Wolverhampton latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Got No Dollars |
(6) 6/1(+25%) | (6) Got No Dollars 6/1, C&D winner. Creditable fourth of 11 in handicap back over this C&D (20/1) 42 days ago. May again find one or two too good. Won off this mark here in August; made the frame last time, beaten about 4l. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Claxton Bay |
(3) 8/1(+60%) | (3) Claxton Bay 8/1, Winner at Beverley in September but trailed in last of 12 in handicap (25/1) at Lingfield (8f, AW) 64 days ago, taking his record on the AW to 0-11. Folded tamely and failed to beat a rival in last two AW attempts; opposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Roscioli |
(1) 11/1(-120%) | (1) Roscioli 11/1, C&D winner. Latest win at Salisbury in August. Respectable third of 9 in handicap (9/2) at Brighton (8f, good to soft), doing too much too soon. Off 100 days and he looks vulnerable. Largely consistent 2024 campaign featured a C&D win; absent for 100 days. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Tancredi |
(7) 40/1(-100%) | (7) Tancredi 40/1, Thrice-raced maiden. First run since leaving George Boughey when ninth of 10 in novice at Wolverhampton (7.2f, 40/1) 38 days ago. Needs to get back on track now handicapping. Well beaten for new stable last time; needs progress on handicap debut. |
THE SPOTLIGHT KID wasn't beaten far in his attempt to complete a hat-trick at Wolverhampton last month and Dean Ivory's charge should be suited by dropping back in trip. He can land a fifth career success at the main expense of C&D winner Union Island, who was also third when on a three-timer at Southwell. A capable sort on his day and making his first appearance since October, Roscioli cannot be ruled out either.
THE SPOTLIGHT KID lost little caste in defeat when third off this mark at Wolverhampton last month and he is taken to resume winning ways. If Falcon Nine returns to form he could be the one to follow the selection home, while Union Island arrives here in good form and is also shortlisted.
Judged on his record since upped to this trip, UNION ISLAND (nap) holds particularly good claims. The Spotlight Kid is feared most.
Ths is the racecard key.
