1st (10) (12/1 -9%) Gabriel's Getaway |
12/1(-9%) | (10) Gabriel's Getaway 12/1, Much improved for the switch to chasing, landing first 3 starts with an emphatic success in Exeter handicap (19.2f) in April. Winning run ended at Bangor a month later but possible he'll strip fitter for his reappearance run at Ludlow 38 days ago. Out of the weights today but is 3-5 over fences and still has significant potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (9/2 -13%) Calico |
9/2(-13%) | (3) Calico 9/2, Won twice over fences last season and was in the process of showing improved form when falling at the last in Aintree Grade 1 final start. Sound second on return at Cheltenham and probably overdid positive tactics when fourth back there 6 weeks ago. Still very much of interest from this mark. C&D winner last season; not at best on latest outing but still enters calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (20/1 -233%) Malystic |
20/1(-233%) | (2) Malystic 20/1, Won this race 12 months ago and capped a fine 2022/23 season with this third win of the campaign at Ayr (16.5f) in April. Low-key efforts in handicaps at Kelso/Ascot upon returning to action but best to overlook his latest run at Kempton over Christmas having been forced to pull up. Three wins last season (including this race) but has not fired yet this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (4/1 +64%) Nells Son |
4/1(+64%) | (7) Nells Son 4/1, Jumped soundly when registering smooth success on return to chasing at Carlisle (2m) in October. Some way below that form when third in 4-runner handicap at Wetherby (15.2f) a month later but no surprise to see him bounce back returning from 2 months off. Claims if judged on Carlisle win in October but was disappointing favourite last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (4/1 -60%) Traprain Law |
4/1(-60%) | (8) Traprain Law 4/1, Steadily progressive over hurdles and having shaped promisingly when third on chase debut at Ayr in November, he built on that when recording an easy victory at Kelso (17f) 4 weeks ago. 10 lb higher mark to deal with up in class but unlikely he's done improving yet. Player. Progressive 6yo; moves up in grade after comfortable win at Kelso last month; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (3/1 +40%) Funambule Sivola |
3/1(+40%) | (1) Funambule Sivola 3/1, Landed this race 2 years ago before excellent second in Champion Chase. Not at the same level last season, his standout effort when landing the Game Spirit at Newbury in February but shaped better with each start from an easing mark this campaign. May scale his resurgence further. Won this in 2022; on the downgrade now but ran fairly well at Cheltenham last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (10/1 +17%) Xcitations |
10/1(+17%) | (6) Xcitations 10/1, C&D winner. Returned to best on back of reappearance run when landing 6-runner Sandown handicap in November. In process of running well when unseating 2 out at Wetherby (15.2f) a couple of weeks ago but this mark demands a little more in any case. Doesn't have much margin for error off current mark but is a dual a C&D winner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (22/1 -57%) Gold Des Bois |
22/1(-57%) | (9) Gold Des Bois 22/1, Back-to-back winner of small-field handicap chases in autumn 2022 and kept on well for third in this race 12 months ago. Posted pair of respectable efforts upon returning this term but recent exploits not so inspiring. Placed at 40-1 in this race last year but ended 2023 with two disappointing runs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (12/1 -50%) War Lord |
12/1(-50%) | (4) War Lord 12/1, Useful chaser who made an encouraging return after a patchy 2022/23 campaign when third in Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter. Well below best faced with heavy ground last twice, so return to sounder surface/first-time cheekpieces may help now. Good third on seasonal debut; cheekpieces added after two lesser efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (5) (150/1 -436%) Flic Ou Voyou |
150/1(-436%) | (5) Flic Ou Voyou 150/1, Enhanced his fine record at Wincanton with another victory in handicap 11 months ago. Folded tamely next time, however, and well held at Kempton on return in October. Has since left Paul Nicholls. Left Paul Nicholls after lacklustre seasonal debut in October; makes stable debut today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
The return to a flatter track appears to bode well for the chances of CALICO. The eight-year-old acquitted himself well throughout last season, especially when giving Jonbon a fright in the Kingmaker at Warwick, and went close on his return at Cheltenham in November. The switch to the New Course the following month probably didn't suit him as much and he is more than capable of getting his head back in front. Funambule Sivola has dropped to a very tempting mark and Ned Fox's 5lb claim is another positive, while Traprain Law and War Lord appeal most of the remainder.
A winner over C&D last spring, CALICO has returned in good form, runner-up at Cheltenham prior to possibly overdoing positive tactics back there 6 weeks ago. Remaining of interest from this sort of mark, this less demanding test should play to the strengths of Dan Skelton's charge and he rates a big player. Impressive Kelso winner Traprain Law rates a big danger with further progress anticipated. Nells Son and last year's winner Malystic are others worth a look.
He's 7lb wrong but GABRIEL'S GETAWAY made rapid progress towards the end of last season and could still have significant potential.

1st (2) (5/4 +23%) Sir Gino |
5/4(+23%) | (2) Sir Gino 5/4, Won listed newcomers race at Auteuil in April and, on the back of a breathing op, looked a class apart when following up in 8-runner juvenile at Kempton (2m) on his British debut last month. Sure to go on to better things. Easy win at Kempton showed he's a major Triumph Hurdle contender; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (6/5 -20%) Burdett Road |
6/5(-20%) | (1) Burdett Road 6/5, Royal Ascot handicap winner on the Flat in June and has taken really well to hurdling, making it 2-2 in impressive fashion in a Grade 2 contest here in November. The one to beat with further progress on the cards. Impressive in similar event here ten weeks ago; favourite for the Triumph Hurdle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (6/1 +29%) Milan Tino |
6/1(+29%) | (7) Milan Tino 6/1, Showed useful form when placed in listed and Grade 2 events at Auteuil last autumn but couldn't match Burdett Road's turn of foot when third in Grade 2 here in November. 7l behind Burdett Road last time but now gets 5lb pull; remains of interest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (25/1 -56%) Excelero |
25/1(-56%) | (5) Excelero 25/1, Has a good pedigree and showed plenty to work amidst inexperience when second of 9 in a juvenile at Warwick (16f, heavy) on debut 81 days ago. Open to improvement. Made a solid debut at Warwick; open to any amount of progress; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (33/1 +18%) Le Fauve |
33/1(+18%) | (6) Le Fauve 33/1, Bought for €105,000 after going down by a nose at Bordeaux on his hurdling debut (tongue tied) for J. Boisnard and made a positive start for new connections after 11 weeks off when third in Aintree listed event (17f) last month. Remains open to improvement. Still open to improvement but this looks a stiff assignment on ratings. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (250/1 -150%) Ellerton |
250/1(-150%) | (4) Ellerton 250/1, Fairly useful Flat on the Flat in France for Tim Donworth. Has shown some aptitude for hurdling but will surely be outclassed here. Wears first-time cheekpieces after a laboured effort last time. Has plenty to find on hurdles form; gelded since last run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (150/1 -50%) Cosmic Soul |
150/1(-50%) | (3) Cosmic Soul 150/1, Fair maiden on Flat for James Horton, stays 2m, back on track when runner-up in handicap last time. Sold from James Horton's yard for 35,000 gns in October and very much pitched in the deep end on hurdling debut. 0-6 on Flat for James Horton; faces a tough task on hurdles debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
BURDETT ROAD had Milan Tino (third) seven lengths behind at this level over an extended 2m here in November and, even though he is 5lb worse off this time around, he can confirm his superiority over that rival. James Owen's gelding is unbeaten in two starts over hurdles and sets a stiff standard with a rating of 137, so he looks the one to beat. The main danger is Sir Gino, who justified odds-on favouritism in comprehensive fashion for his powerful connections at Kempton last month and could have plenty more to come.
BURDETT ROAD showed an impressive turn of foot in a modestly-run Grade 2 here in November and can enhance his Triumph Hurdle claims with another success. Sir Gino created a good impression on his British debut at Kempton and is considered the main threat ahead of Milan Tino.
Leading Triumph hopes BURDETT ROAD (narrowly preferred) and Sir Gino line up for an engrossing clash.

1st (1) (1/2 +12%) Wodhooh |
1/2(+12%) | (1) Wodhooh 1/2, Fair on the Flat and she has taken extremely well to hurdling, making it 4 from 4 at Newbury 57 days ago. Had the measure of Max of Stars there and fancied to maintain her unbeaten record. 0-4 for Sir Michael Stoute but she's gone 4-4 over hurdles; sets the standard here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (4/1 +33%) Max Of Stars |
4/1(+33%) | (2) Max Of Stars 4/1, Took very well to hurdling in the first half of the season, winning 4 times. Fine second in a fillies' listed juvenile at Newbury on penultimate outing and seemed to find the ground too testing at Aintree 49 days ago. Could get back on track. Conceding 3lb to Wodhooh when giving that filly something to think about at Newbury. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (9/1 -50%) Green Sky |
9/1(-50%) | (6) Green Sky 9/1, Fairly useful Flat winner who hasn't matched that form as yet over hurdles but wasn't seen to best effect when third in a juvenile at Fairyhouse 42 days ago. More to come. 1m1f winner; third on heavy at Fairyhouse and these conditions should suit her better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (11/1 +31%) Ezmerellda |
11/1(+31%) | (5) Ezmerellda 11/1, Fair maiden on the Flat and left hurdling debut behind when scoring with plenty in hand over C&D last time. This is much tougher but she's likely to take another step forward. C&D winner but with roughly 20l to find with Wodhooh on their clash at Newbury. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (20/1 -100%) Love Tree |
20/1(-100%) | (7) Love Tree 20/1, Ready winner over C&D on hurdling debut, then shaped as if amiss here 22 days ago. Remains with potential, so not one to completely write off. Poor last time when odds-on; even on her piece of winning form she has something to find. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (200/1 -203%) Adare Beauty |
200/1(-203%) | (3) Adare Beauty 200/1, Hasn't shown a great deal so far and looks set for another struggle. Very minor Flat form; finished tailed off behind Wodhooh at Punchestown in October. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (22/1 +21%) Majestic Jameela |
22/1(+21%) | (8) Majestic Jameela 22/1, Modest form on Flat and off the mark at the fifth attempt over hurdles when landing the odds at Leicester in November. Not discredited since but she's out of her depth in this. Looking exposed now; she's another with plenty to find with Wodhooh. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (66/1 -136%) Ragosina |
66/1(-136%) | (9) Ragosina 66/1, Made a promising start in this sphere when second of nine in Musselburgh juvenile but failed to back it up in hotter contest at Newbury. Only fifth on the Flat last time and she's up against it here. Comfortably held by Wodhooh on their Newbury clash; since well beaten on the AW. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (80/1 -186%) Ruler Of The River |
80/1(-186%) | (10) Ruler Of The River 80/1, Just a modest maiden on the Flat in Ireland for Jack Davison and bettered previous hurdling efforts when second in a juvenile ove C&D last time. Faces a stiff task in this contest, though. In two of her hurdles she's been beaten 14l by Majestic Jameela and 8l by Ezmerellda. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (250/1 -279%) Brora Breeze |
250/1(-279%) | (4) Brora Breeze 250/1, Fair 1¼m winner on Flat for Andrew Balding but down the field on hurdling debut and failed to beat a rival on the Flat at Newcastle recently. Others preferred. Behind some of these on hurdling debut and ran poorly on the AW just ten days ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
WODHOOH sets a clear standard having maintained her unbeaten record over hurdles at Newbury last month at the expense of Max Of Stars (second) and several others who reoppose. This appears to be another fine opportunity for Gordon Elliott's filly to add further black-type to her CV. Max Of Stars can be forgiven her subsequent effort at Aintree which came on very testing ground, while Ezmerellda and Green Sky are others worth considering for the minor honours.
WODHOOH has been most impressive so far over hurdles and she's firmly expected to make it 5 from 5 in this sphere, possibly at the expense of old rival Max of Stars. Ezmerellda also needs considering on the back of an impressive success here.
Wodhooh should confirm previous placings with a number of these but GREEN SKY appeals as a likely improver under these conditions.

1st (1) (4/1 +0%) Ginny's Destiny |
4/1(+0%) | (1) Ginny's Destiny 4/1, Bumper scorer who made up into a useful winning hurdler last term for Tom Lacey. Quickly scaled even greater heights over fences for new yard, landing handicap/C&D novice events in recent months and feasible to think there's yet more to come. Respected. Bold front-running displays in 2m4f chases on both courses here; has better to come. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (13/2 -18%) Theatre Man |
13/2(-18%) | (6) Theatre Man 13/2, Useful, dual-winning hurdler who has twice shaped well following his switch to chasing this winter, deserving of extra credit given how freely he raced when good third at Newbury (23.4f) 38 days ago. Of interest from this sort of mark with drop in trip holding no fears. Front-runner; has taken well to fences; outstayed over 2m7f of late; 2m4f can suit better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (12) (6/1 +0%) Es Perfecto |
6/1(+0%) | (12) Es Perfecto 6/1, Point winner who has been lightly raced in recent years but promise when runner-up behind Ginny's Destiny on chase debut here in November. Stepped up on that despite being left with bit too much to do when third to Blow Your Wad at Kempton since. Has races in him from this mark. Weights chance with Ginny's Destiny and Blow Your Wad on 2m4f chase form; can do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (11) (10/1 +50%) Prairie Wolf |
10/1(+50%) | (11) Prairie Wolf 10/1, Largely progressive in handicap hurdles last term and having looked more assured in jumping department, opened his account at second attempt over fences at Doncaster (20.5f) 6 weeks ago, in command last and value for extra. 6 lb rise fair and he shouldn't be underestimated. Had plenty to spare on 2nd chase run (2m4f); other progressive rivals this time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (28/1 -12%) Bowtogreatness |
28/1(-12%) | (5) Bowtogreatness 28/1, Dual novice hurdle winner (at around 2½m) and better form when placed over fences last term, including when runner-up in valuable handicap at Aintree final start. Let down by jumping under patient ride on return at Newbury 4 weeks ago and return to positive tactics may suit best down in trip. 0-7 as chaser; chance on 2m3f/3m1f form last winter but made a disappointing reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (9/2 -13%) Blow Your Wad |
9/2(-13%) | (2) Blow Your Wad 9/2, Solid return to action when second over hurdles in Silver Trophy at Chepstow and built on chase debut promise (behind subsequent Grade 1 winner Le Patron) when coming out on top in soundly-run handicap at Kempton (20.5f) last month. Shortlisted with prospect of more to come. Lacks Cheltenham experience; looked a novice to follow when Kempton winner latest (2m4f). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (12/1 +40%) Charles Ritz |
12/1(+40%) | (10) Charles Ritz 12/1, Low-mileage 8-y-o who tasted success over hurdles and improved with each start over larger obstacles, well served by emphasis on stamina as he made a winning return at Exeter (19.2f) 26 days ago. Open to further improvement but this tougher returned to a quicker surface. Reserves of stamina when 2m3f winner on heavy last month; more turbulent waters today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (22/1 +12%) Railway Hurricane |
22/1(+12%) | (9) Railway Hurricane 22/1, Belatedly opened his account over fences at Tipperary (19.5f) last summer and creditable displays when placed on 2 of his last 3 starts around here. Behind when falling 4 out in December Gold Cup over C&D 6 weeks ago and suspicion he'll come up short in this field. Chase strike-rate of 1-26; well held behind Ginny's Destiny here in November; fell latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (25/1 -79%) Unexpected Party |
25/1(-79%) | (3) Unexpected Party 25/1, Emerged with credit against some of the top-flight British novice chasers of 2022/23 and made a fine return when taking 4-runner listed novice at Chepstow (19.5f) in October. Not at same level in graded company more recently but return to handicaps a plus (third in this 12 months ago). Chasing since November 2022, sole win in 2m3f Listed race; well-held 3rd in this last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (12/1 -50%) Persian Time |
12/1(-50%) | (7) Persian Time 12/1, Lightly raced hurdler (useful form) who shaped encouragingly when second behind subsequent Grade 2 winner Djelo on chase debut at Newbury in December. Looked fortunate (left in front 2 out) when going one place better at Ascot latest but shapes as if he'll be at least as effective back at this trip. Up against it on handicap/chase debut; inherited 2m1f Ascot race next time; stamina query. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (17/2 -31%) Tightenourbelts |
17/2(-31%) | (4) Tightenourbelts 17/2, Maiden hurdle winner who made the perfect start to his chase career in a Ludlow novice handicap (2½m, soft) in November. Improved again when third to Hermes Allen in Newbury Gr. 2 next start and whilst he never figured when fourth in last month's Kauto Star, he retains potential back in handicaps. Much too good when winning 2m4f handicap off 14lb lower on chase debut; highly tried since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (28/1 -180%) Happy And Fine |
28/1(-180%) | (8) Happy And Fine 28/1, Likeable sort who ran well in strong race for the grade when third at Wetherby (19.4f) in November and tasted success twice since in handicaps at Leicester/Haydock at around this trip. This his sternest assignment yet but unlikely he's reached his limit. Natural jumper who is improving in 2m4f chases; up 8lb for latest win; tougher race today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Ginny's Destiny is likely to have his supporters after accounting for subsequent Grade 2 winner Grey Dawning by just under a length over C&D last month and he is a big player stepping back into the handicap ranks. However, slight preference is for the Emma Lavelle-trained TIGHTENOURBELTS, who was highly tried and well beaten in the Kauto Star at Kempton on Boxing Day but bolted up by 10 lengths when last seen in a handicap at Ludlow in November. Blow Your Wad and Persian Time are others to consider.
Claims can be made for a host in an ultra-competitive handicap with the narrow vote in favour of THEATRE MAN. He's twice shaped well following his switch to chasing, deserving of extra credit for how freely he raced when third at Newbury 38 days ago, and with the drop back in trip holding no fears, he can confirm himself on a good mark. Ginny's Destiny is going from strength-to-strength and feared. Prairie Wolf, at longer odds, and Blow Your Wad complete the shortlist.
With his experience of these fences counting for plenty, GINNY'S DESTINY may be able to concede weight all round.

1st (1) (9/2 -64%) Classic Maestro |
9/2(-64%) | (1) Classic Maestro 9/2, Fair form when runner-up on last 3 starts over hurdles, the latest in a heavy-ground 2¾m course handicap just over 5 weeks ago. Certainly not discounted trying 2m for the first time. Improver who has finished runner-up in both his handicaps; respected on this drop to 2m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (5/2 +64%) Copper Cove |
5/2(+64%) | (6) Copper Cove 5/2, Yet to really build on a promising couple of efforts in maiden company last season but seemed a bit fresher than ideal when seventh of 19 in handicap hurdle at Carlisle (20f, soft) on return 3 months ago. Back down in trip and the suspicion remains he should do better at some stage. 0-5 over hurdles but mark is sliding and this drop back in trip could help; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (6/1 +45%) Atreides |
6/1(+45%) | (7) Atreides 6/1, Lightly-raced maiden who compromised his finishing effort by racing freely when fifth at Plumpton (15.9f, good to soft) last month. Mark eases a shade further and he's not without hope if settling better. Has not really progressed over hurdles and was only fifth of ten at Plumpton last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (16/1 -45%) Heure De Gloire |
16/1(-45%) | (3) Heure De Gloire 16/1, Landed a 2m handicap hurdle at Leicester in February. Looks to be being brought along gradually judged on both outings this season and could show the benefit having dropped another 2 lb in the weights. Well held in her last three runs and needs to get back near best on this drop back in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (80/1 -60%) Be My Sea |
80/1(-60%) | (10) Be My Sea 80/1, Modest handicap hurdler who has offered little in 2 starts for new yard since returning from a lengthy absence. Significantly back down in trip. Veteran who has struggled in two runs for new yard after a long absence; opposable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (8/1 -60%) Present Fair |
8/1(-60%) | (2) Present Fair 8/1, Brushed off a disappointing run over fences when winning 10-runner handicap over C&D last month. Not disgraced when fourth from a 3 lb higher mark at Catterick since and should give another good account. Won over C&D last month and he wasn't beaten far at Catterick last time; in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (15/2 -233%) Foxey |
15/2(-233%) | (4) Foxey 15/2, Flat-bred gelding who got off the mark over hurdles at Newton Abbot (18.5f) in October. Runner-up on chasing debut at Huntingdon later that month before going one better in authoritative fashion at Lingfield just under 7 weeks ago. Plenty to like reverted to hurdles. 2-4 since returning from a long absence and he's a big player again back over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (16/1 +0%) Inebranlable |
16/1(+0%) | (8) Inebranlable 16/1, Runner-up sole start in points and offered more than on debut in this sphere when fourth of 11 in novice at Ffos Las (15.8f, heavy) last month. Not so good at Exeter 9 days later but could be seen in better light now handicapping. Unexposed 6yo but he needs improvement on his handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (80/1 -60%) Toucan Sam |
80/1(-60%) | (9) Toucan Sam 80/1, Not without promise on 2 of his 3 starts in novice/maiden hurdles for this yard back in summer 2022. Understandably looked rusty following 14 months off over at Ayr (18f, soft) 38 days ago (lost tough before end of back straight) and this promises to reveal more. Eight-race maiden who was pulled up at Ayr on his comeback last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|RO| (5) (9/2 +36%) Shinji |
9/2(+36%) | (5) Shinji 9/2, Looked above average when a bumper for Roger Varian (subsequently sold £60,000) on debut in November 2022 but has run a long way below that level on all 3 starts over hurdles. Could prove a different proposition now handicapping. Bumper winner who is unexposed over hurdles and needs a close look on his handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
It was a modest novices' handicap chase that Foxey won at Lingfield in December and while Olly Murphy's charge wasn't fully extended for that facile success, this is a deeper race and he looks vulnerable back over hurdles. With that in mind, PRESENT FAIR is marginally preferred. A winner over C&D on his penultimate start, the selection looks worth another chance off the same rating as when a respectable fourth at Catterick last time out. Classic Maestro can also go close if coping with the drop in trip.
A tricky opener to solve but the vote goes to COPPER COVE, who seemed a bit fresher than ideal on his seasonal return at Carlisle in October but the suspicion remains that there's more to come from Jonjo O'Neill's 7-y-o at some stage. Foxey was a commanding winner over the larger obstacles last time, so he may emerge as the main danger back hurdling, with Classic Maestro and Heure de Gloire another couple fancied to go well.
Preference is for recent chase winner FOXEY, who is a big player again back over hurdles in his bid to make it 3-5 for Olly Murphy.

1st (9) (13/2 +28%) Geromino |
13/2(+28%) | (9) Geromino 13/2, Seen to maximum effect under this pilot when making all in 11-runner handicap hurdle (14/1) at this course (16.6f, good to soft) 42 days ago, holding on gamely. Just 2 lb higher now and warrants respect. Held on gamely for 2m course win last month but others in this field appeal more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (12) (10/1 -54%) Rich Spirit |
10/1(-54%) | (12) Rich Spirit 10/1, Modest form in 2 bumpers but better signs over hurdles, capitalising on drop in grade at Catterick (19.3f) last month. Opening mark demands more on handicap debut. Readily won Catterick novice by 10l last month; can progress again in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (9/2 +50%) Luttrell Lad |
9/2(+50%) | (7) Luttrell Lad 9/2, Returned to winning ways at Cartmel (17.2f) in July and acquitted himself well off higher marks since, latest when second of 5 (got racing with rival too far out) in handicap hurdle at Hereford (19.7f, good to soft) 42 days ago. Big player. Ended last year with two good runs and promising claimer takes off 7lb here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (11) (7/1 -8%) Alien Storm |
7/1(-8%) | (11) Alien Storm 7/1, Won Plumpton novice (15.9f) last term and run with credit in a couple of handicaps this season, latest when sixth of 18 at Cheltenham (16.4f, good) in October. Worth a crack at this longer trip. Began season with two good efforts and could have more to offer over this new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (9/2 +55%) Punctuation |
9/2(+55%) | (2) Punctuation 9/2, Most progressive since joining this yard and equipped with a tongue tie, rounding off last season with success at Aintree in April. Made a winning return on the Flat at York, before shaping better than bare result in Greatwood at Cheltenham. Not out of things. Safely held in major Cheltenham handicap in November but might feature here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (66/1 -230%) In From The Cold |
66/1(-230%) | (10) In From The Cold 66/1, Fairly useful Flat/hurdles winner for Gordon Elliott who took a step back in right direction when fourth of 6 in Kempton handicap hurdle (16f, good to soft) 14 days ago. This is tougher, though. Very respectable fourth of six on recent stable debut; now needs to build on that effort. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (5/1 +38%) Sans Bruit |
5/1(+38%) | (4) Sans Bruit 5/1, Useful hurdler in France, winning twice last spring. Finished down the field but not discredited in Grade 2 chase at Auteuil when last seen in June. Interesting, sent handicapping over hurdles on first run for yard after leaving David Cottin. Has had wind surgery. 5-10 over hurdles in France; makes British debut for top stable; interesting recruit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (13/2 +28%) No Ordinary Joe |
13/2(+28%) | (1) No Ordinary Joe 13/2, Very useful hurdler, including runner-up in Martin Pipe at last season's Cheltenham Festival. Made a disappointing start to his chase career at Newbury last month but warrants respect back over the smaller obstacles. Flopped on seasonal/chasing debut but is a very useful hurdler when on song; can't ignore. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (50/1 -79%) The Big Bite |
50/1(-79%) | (3) The Big Bite 50/1, Useful sort on his day over fences and back to that level in first-time headgear when narrow winner of Greatwood Gold Cup at Newbury in March. Offered little in either start this term, though, and is best watched back over hurdles. Pulled up in last two chases and tricky to predict in first hurdle race since 2019. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (17/2 -31%) Call Of The Wild |
17/2(-31%) | (8) Call Of The Wild 17/2, Won sole bumper start and 2 from 4 in novice hurdles during 2021/22. Didn't go on from his encouraging third at Ascot last season (didn't take to chasing), but he got back on track when runner-up in handicap hurdle at Wincanton (19.8f) in November. Shortlisted. Made very encouraging seasonal debut in November and remains on a workable mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (6) (28/1 -155%) Wolf Prince |
28/1(-155%) | (6) Wolf Prince 28/1, Acquitted himself well in a couple of outings for Fergal O'Brien in 2022 but not seen for 17 months and market should prove best guide to expectations on return. In good form when last seen in summer 2022 but has fitness to prove today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (14) (25/1 -213%) Hunting Brook |
25/1(-213%) | (14) Hunting Brook 25/1, Irish raider who has found improvement since sent handicapping for new yard this term, winning at Down Royal (24.1f) and Punchestown (20.8f). Far from disgraced when seventh of 20 at Fairyhouse (19.8f, soft, 4/1) latest and is worth a second look in the market. 1 lb out of the weights. Started out for stable with two low-grade, big-field wins; further progress is possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (66/1 -230%) Lunar Power |
66/1(-230%) | (5) Lunar Power 66/1, Won a handicap hurdle for Noel Meade last May but nowhere near that level in 2 starts for new yard this season. Soundly beaten on first two starts for Donald McCain; headgear switched today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Rich Spirit has to be respected on his handicap bow following a win at Catterick just before Christmas, while Hunting Brook, Geromino and Call Of The Wild are others capable of a decent showing. The verdict is for PUNCTUATION, though, who is 5-12 over timber and clearly a lot better than his Cheltenham showing in November. He has been given time to get over those exertions and is expected to go well.
LUTTRELL LAD shaped like the best horse at the weights at Hereford last time and is able to race off the same mark here. He can resume winning ways. Call of The Wild and No Ordinary Joe head the list of dangers.
After a game effort in defeat at Hereford last month, LUTTRELL LAD (nap) can go one better under promising 7lb claimer Cameron Iles.

1st (5) (5/1 +9%) Midnight It Is |
5/1(+9%) | (5) Midnight It Is 5/1, Latest win in chase at Clonmel in October. 8/1, good fifth of 12 in handicap chase at Naas (16f, good to soft) 15 days ago, likely to have finished closer but for jolting error 2 out. Enters calculations. Not beaten far in fifth at Naas last time despite making a bad mistake two out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (7/2 -8%) Battle Of Ridgeway |
7/2(-8%) | (2) Battle Of Ridgeway 7/2, Hurdles/chase winner who finished good second of 11 in handicap chase at Thurles (18.3f, good to soft) 41 days ago. Has good chance on form. Second at Thurles, may again cope with sixth-placed Chainofconsequence in good form since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (16/1 -60%) Freddie Robdal |
16/1(-60%) | (8) Freddie Robdal 16/1, Pulled up in handicap chase (12/1) at Limerick (17.7f, heavy) 32 days ago won by Chainofconsequence, never involved. Good bit to prove at present. Questions to answer now after being pulled up in a Limerick race won by Chainofconsequence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (9/1 -50%) Battle It Out |
9/1(-50%) | (1) Battle It Out 9/1, Hooded for 1st time, third of 12 in novice chase at this course (16.5f, heavy, 50/1) 42 days ago. Exploits over fences to date haven't been devoid of encouragement by any means and likely he can do better now handicapping in this sphere. Remote third over C&D last time after the leader fell at the last, handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (11/1 -10%) Steppenwolf |
11/1(-10%) | (6) Steppenwolf 11/1, 10/1, respectable fifth of 12 in handicap chase at Leopardstown (21.3f, soft) 29 days ago. Cheekpieces/tongue tie fitted but present mark seemingly his stumbling block at present. Winning hurdler, has failed to complete three of his seven starts over fences, seems risky. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (9/2 +50%) Henning |
9/2(+50%) | (3) Henning 9/2, Fairly useful winner at 19f over hurdles. Not so good over fences, first run since leaving Miss Shauna Larkin when pulled up in Grade 2 chase at Limerick (22.6f, heavy) 31 days ago. Switch to handicaps a plus now at least. Fair third in a Thurles beginners' event in October but hard to fancy on more recent form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (6/1 -20%) Teescomponentsyess |
6/1(-20%) | (9) Teescomponentsyess 6/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2021. 5/1, good 4½ lengths second of 13 to Chainofconsequence in handicap chase at Limerick (17.7f, heavy) 32 days ago. Should be up to getting closer to that rival on these revised terms. Second in the Limerick event won by Chainofconsequence, capable of making presence felt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (25/1 +0%) Sunnyvilla |
25/1(+0%) | (7) Sunnyvilla 25/1, Course winner. Pulled up in handicap chase (16/1) at Limerick (17.7f, heavy) 32 days ago won by Chainofconsequence, pulled up early in straight. Won over 2m5f here last February, pulled up on both outings this season, plenty to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (4/1 +33%) Chainofconsequence |
4/1(+33%) | (10) Chainofconsequence 4/1, Latest win in chase at Limerick in December. 4/1, creditable third of 10 in handicap chase at Clonmel (16.5f, heavy) 16 days ago. Can give a good account again in present groove. Won well from Teescomponentsyess at Limerick, not a bad run off this mark at Clonmel. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (4) (40/1 -60%) Mc Alpine |
40/1(-60%) | (4) Mc Alpine 40/1, Fairly useful winner at 16f over hurdles. 18/1, seventh of 11 in handicap chase at Thurles (18.3f, good to soft) 41 days ago, weakening before home turn. Tailed off in a Thurles event in which Battle Of Ridgeway was second, up against it. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
BATTLE OF RIDGEWAY can make it two from three over fences. The Califet gelding was an impressive winner on his chase debut at Thurles in November and just lost out by half a length in a tight finish on his first handicap start over the larger obstacles back at the Tipperary venue last month. That form looks solid with the fourth-placed horse, R'evelyn Pleasure winning twice since. Chainofconsequence has a nice low weight in this with Adam Ryan taking off 7lb. The Ocovango gelding won on his penultimate start at Limerick before a solid placed effort off this mark at Clonmel last time. Teescomponentsyess chased home Chainofconsequence in Limerick and is entitled to get a bit closer now on revised terms.
A winner over hurdles/fences last year, BATTLE OF RIDGEWAY remains low-mileage and confirmed he remains one to be interested in when finishing a good second on handicap debut in this sphere at Thurles 6 weeks ago and he earns the vote to go one place better. Battle It Out rates a likely improver himself now handicapping in this sphere and along with Teescomponentsyess and Midnight It Is, heads up the dangers.
Martin Hassett's runner BATTLE OF RIDGEWAY is still relatively unexposed and may go one better than in his first handicap at Thurles.

1st (2) (8/1 +11%) Ga Law |
8/1(+11%) | (2) Ga Law 8/1, Won last season's Paddy Power (off 8 lb lower) at this venue and travelled well for a long way in Coral Gold Cup at Newbury (3¼m) last month. Cheekpieces worn on that occasion are retained and a strongly-run race at this shorter trip could play to his strengths. Sole attempt in Cheltenham handicap resulted in Paddy Power success in 2022; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (12) (25/1 +0%) Lounge Lizard |
25/1(+0%) | (12) Lounge Lizard 25/1, Looked more straightforward than had previously been the case (in blinkers) when landing small-field handicaps at Catterick/Taunton during second half of last term. Did too much too soon in Becher Chase latest but may find things happening plenty quick enough dropped in trip here. Generally consistent but has something to prove back down in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (4/1 +0%) Il Ridoto |
4/1(+0%) | (4) Il Ridoto 4/1, Clearly well suited by this course, winning this contest (off 10 lb lower) 12 months ago and only narrowly failing to make all in competitive handicap over C&D last month. 5 lb higher now but looks sure to go well again. Made a bold bid in similar race here last month; won this contest last year; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (18/1 -50%) Jetoile |
18/1(-50%) | (3) Jetoile 18/1, Ended last season on the upgrade, landing 2 handicaps at Chepstow in good style before making a winning return (albeit a messy renewal due to several omitted fences) in Old Roan Chase at Aintree. Has clearly developed the winning habit and he must enter calculations. Progressive but the form of his Old Roan win is open to question; now 4lb higher. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (13) (50/1 -52%) Champagne Mystery |
50/1(-52%) | (13) Champagne Mystery 50/1, Campaigned exclusively in France in recent years, running up to best when second in listed chase at Auteuil (17.4f, heavy) 62 days ago. Since rejoined Tom George and doesn't look harshly treated back handicapping but it's been some time since he got his head in front. Campaigned in France for over two years; sole chase win came in 2019; opposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (22/1 -83%) Frere D'armes |
22/1(-83%) | (10) Frere D'armes 22/1, Improved for switch to chasing last season, landing handicaps at Kempton/Newbury (at up to 18f) and ran up to best when second in Ascot handicap (16.7f) on penultimate start. This looks tougher, though, and he arrives on back of poor effort at Musselburgh. Best to forgive latest effort; still unexposed at this distance; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (5/1 +38%) Victtorino |
5/1(+38%) | (5) Victtorino 5/1, Ex-French chaser who has upped his game significantly since joining Venetia Williams, landing back-to-back 23.8f handicaps at Ascot. Faces a different test here but further improvement may be forthcoming. Ex-French; 2-2 over fences in Britain, both wins over 3m at Ascot; drops back in distance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (12/1 +0%) Bill Baxter |
12/1(+0%) | (7) Bill Baxter 12/1, Had a fine first season over fences, gaining fourth success when gamely landing Topham Chase over the National fences at Aintree (21f) in April. Acquitted himself well in defeat this term but wouldn't want the ground too dry out too much here. Has a record of 4-6 when completing in 2m4f-2m6f contests over fences; possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (12/1 -20%) Hitman |
12/1(-20%) | (1) Hitman 12/1, Shaped as if amiss on return in Old Roan at Aintree but has had a breathing operation since and his only previous visit here resulted in excellent third in Ryanair Chase last season. Not taken lightly. Smart on his day; has attractive claims off current mark and with Gingell taking off 5lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (11) (9/1 +10%) Grandeur D'ame |
9/1(+10%) | (11) Grandeur D'ame 9/1, Winning hurdler who has a generally progressive profile over fences, back on the up when landing a handicap at Wetherby (19.4f) in November. Far from disgraced (from 3 lb out of the weights) when fourth in C&D handicap since and merits consideration. Ties in with Il Ridoto on C&D running last month; may do better still; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (22/1 -38%) Straw Fan Jack |
22/1(-38%) | (8) Straw Fan Jack 22/1, Dual winner over fences last term who made a solid return behind Pic D'Orhy at Ascot in November. However, ran no sort of race at same course since and makes limited appeal here. Ran poorly in the Ascot race won by Excello; opposed in this warm handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (6) (5/1 +17%) Excello |
5/1(+17%) | (6) Excello 5/1, Useful form over hurdles and fences at up to 2¾m in France. Only third in novice hurdle for new yard in November but different proposition back chasing 4 weeks later, winning a graduation event in decisive fashion at Ascot (21f, good). Could be more to come on switch to handicaps. Promising ex-French youngster; raised 13lb since Ascot win but remains highly unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (9) (10/1 +0%) Easy As That |
10/1(+0%) | (9) Easy As That 10/1, Looked a potentially smart chaser when easily scoring at Haydock and Newcastle last winter but has found life tougher since, down the field in competitive handicaps at this venue. In fine hands, however, and is only 4 lb above his last winning mark. Shaped promisingly in the Paddy Power Gold Cup here on most recent 2m4f attempt. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Victtorino is unbeaten in two chase starts for the Venetia Williams stable, with both wins coming at Ascot over 3m, and he could get into contention off 4lb higher than the latest of those successes. However, the vote goes to IL RIDOTO, who was involved in a dramatic finish when being denied by only a short head over C&D last month and a 5lb rise may not be enough to prevent him from going one better. Last-time-out winner Excello is another to note on his handicap bow.
Last year's winner IL RIDOTO lost nothing in defeat when caught close home here last month and remains feasibly treated. He gets the nod in what looks a highly competitive contest. Victtorino has proved a revelation since switching to Venetia Williams and is feared most, whilst Excello and Hitman are also very much respected.
If it's not soft ground, FRERE D'ARMES may be the answer to this competitive handicap. Easy As That is second choice.

2/7(-71%) | (8) Roccos Inspiration 2/7, Expensive to follow over hurdles in Ireland but sets a clear standard and this looks an excellent opportunity on first outing for Olly Murphy. Ex-Irish 7yo; sets a clear standard on her best form and this looks a good opportunity. |

2nd (3) (9/2 +36%) Give Me A Boom |
9/2(+36%) | (3) Give Me A Boom 9/2, Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler/useful chaser Redzor. Unplaced completed starts in points but showed some ability when sixth in a Fairyhouse bumper on Rules debut 21 months ago. Has left L. Byrne since then and wears a first-time hood on this switch to hurdling. Back from a long absence but he needs checking in market on his hurdling/stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (66/1 +0%) Cocardier |
66/1(+0%) | (1) Cocardier 66/1, Has shown nothing in a brace of bumpers and easily passed over making hurdling bow in first-time cheekpieces after 11 months off. Tailed off in two bumpers last season and can only be watched on his hurdling debut. |

4th (7) (25/1 +62%) Streamsforth Lad |

6th (4) (125/1 -150%) Jean De Monts |
125/1(-150%) | (4) Jean De Monts 125/1, Showed some ability when sixth in 2m minor event on his only outing on Flat in France but has been tailed off both starts for new yard. Tongue strap on for 1st time. Tailed off in both hurdle runs and he needs a transformation with tongue-tie added. |

125/1(-89%) | (2) Freddy Boy 125/1, Tailed off in sole bumper and pulled up both outings over hurdles. Off 12 months. Hood on for 1st time. Tailed off in a bumper and pulled up in two hurdle runs; hood is now added on his comeback. |

8th (5) (13/2 +19%) Joker De Thaix |
13/2(+19%) | (5) Joker De Thaix 13/2, Showed a bit more than previously in a first-time hood when fourth of 10 in a maiden hurdle at this course (19.9f, heavy) 36 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Down in trip. Some promise here last month but he needs another big leap forward back at this trip. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The standard set by ROCCOS INSPIRATION is hardly of a world-beating standard, but she was placed in eight of her 13 starts during her time in Ireland and appears to have been found a good opportunity to get off to a flying start for the Olly Murphy yard. Joker De Thaix has some course experience and is also considered now dropped back in trip, while hurdles debutant Cocardier could provide a bit of value for a place if taking a shine to racing in cheekpieces.
ROCCOS INSPRITATION has been expensive to follow over hurdles in Ireland, but it's highly unlikely she'll get a better opportunity than this to open her account, so is a straightforward choice. Give Me A Boy looks the obvious one to give the selection most to think about having shown some promise on his sole outing in bumpers back in April 2022.
This looks a good opportunity for Olly Murphy's new recruit ROCCOS INSPIRATION, who sets a clear standard on her best form in Ireland.

1st (2) (4/6 +0%) Jeriko Du Reponet |
4/6(+0%) | (2) Jeriko Du Reponet 4/6, Won his only start in points and he has looked a most exciting hurdling prospect when easily landing a pair of 2m Newbury novice hurdles this winter. Has plenty more to offer and can maintain his unbeaten record upped in grade. Two easy wins at Newbury and he's one of the favourites for the Supreme in March. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (9/2 +25%) Lump Sum |
9/2(+25%) | (3) Lump Sum 9/2, Bumper winner who made it 2-2 over hurdles when seeing off 14 rivals at Wincanton (2m, heavy) 46 days ago, again impressing with how he travelled. Open to further improvement and shouldn't be underestimated. He's won both hurdles despite some novicey jumping so clearly possesses an engine. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (6/1 -20%) Fiercely Proud |
6/1(-20%) | (1) Fiercely Proud 6/1, Dual bumper winner who again looked a useful prospect when making it 2 from 2 over hurdles at Taunton (16.5f, good to soft) last month. Remains capable of better and much respected. Workmanlike in making it 2-2 over hurdles at Taunton; holds the Supreme entry. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (14/1 -40%) The Kalooki Kid |
14/1(-40%) | (4) The Kalooki Kid 14/1, Took a big step forward when getting off the mark in Musselburgh novice (19.8f) in November before following up in comprehensive fashion under a penalty at Newcastle (16.9f). Needs to improve again in this tougher company but that's possible. Untroubled to win his last two and has the look of a highly progressive novice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (11/1 -10%) El Elefante |
11/1(-10%) | (5) El Elefante 11/1, Made all both bumper outings and could hardly have been more impressive switched to hurdling when thrashing 3 previous winners at Perth (20.2f). Has backed up that effort in better company since, fourth in Listed hurdle at Haydock (18.9f, heavy) 35 days ago. No forlorn hope. Has run to a good level even in her defeats; talented mare with more to offer. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
JERIKO DU REPONET appeared to have plenty in hand when maintaining his unbeaten record at Newbury last month and the five-year-old is hard to oppose on the back of that performance. That said, Fiercely Proud has also won both of his starts over hurdles and Ben Pauling's gelding should not be underestimated. Cases can be made for all of the remainder but Lump Sum is just the pick of them.
Nicky Henderson took this Grade 2 with his high-class hurdler/chaser Jonbon when it was last run in 2022 and his much-vaunted JERIKO DU REPONET is hard to oppose on the back of two impressive Newbury novice successes. Lump Sum also has much better days ahead of him and looks the one to chase home the favourite ahead of The Kalooki Kid and Fiercely Proud.
With JERIKO DU REPONET challenging for favouritism in the Supreme it would be bitterly disappointing should he fail this test.

Likely contender. Holding his form well, second over 2m4f last time, this trip should be within his range. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (18/1 -50%) Eddies Pride |
18/1(-50%) | (10) Eddies Pride 18/1, Course winner. One win from 33 NH runs. 14/1, tenth of 14 in handicap hurdle at Limerick (19f, heavy) 29 days ago. Switches from hurdles to chase. Significantly up in trip. Others more persuasive. Only win from 33 races came in a 3m handicap chase at this venue in 2022, others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (7/2 +42%) Pictures Of Home |
7/2(+42%) | (8) Pictures Of Home 7/2, Returned to winning ways in hurdle (23.2f) here in December. Not disgraced when fifth of 6 in novice chase at Punchestown (22.7f, soft, 10/3) since and may have more to offer sent handicapping in this sphere. Course hurdles winner, needs to jump better than on recent chase start, mark seems fair. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (11/1 -10%) Low Mileage |
11/1(-10%) | (5) Low Mileage 11/1, Fourth of 6 in novice chase (9/4) at Tramore (15.4f, heavy) 26 days ago, unsuited by drop in trip. Significantly up in trip. Not out of things. Given an initial handicap mark of 120, down to 105 now and could be competitive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (11/1 +67%) Lizrona |
11/1(+67%) | (2) Lizrona 11/1, Respectable sixth of 14 in handicap chase (14/1) at Thurles (25f, good to soft) 41 days ago, never travelling well. Uphill task. Questions to answer following four lesser displays since good Roscommon run last autumn. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (6/1 -140%) Josh D'id |
6/1(-140%) | (7) Josh D'id 6/1, Promising type who posted very good fourth of 9 in handicap chase at Navan (20.4f, heavy, 7/2) on return 41 days ago, not knocked about. Up in trip. Tongue strap back on/cheekpieces on first time. Shortlist material. Tackles a new trip now and has a new headgear combination, premature to write off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (7/1 +22%) Backintheroom |
7/1(+22%) | (4) Backintheroom 7/1, Fairly useful winner at 16f over hurdles. In the process of running creditably when falling at last in handicap chase at Navan (20.4f, heavy) 41 days ago. Up in trip. May well do better. Little of note in his form since a maiden hurdle win at Gowran on debut in March 2022. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (28/1 +65%) Finding Freedom |
28/1(+65%) | (9) Finding Freedom 28/1, Yet to land a blow in 5 starts over the larger obstacles and was pulled up in first-blinkers at Thurles last month. Tries cheekpieces now. Point winner; weak form over hurdles, no encouragement from his form in beginners' chases. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
BALDUR'S GATE ran a big race over two-and-a-half miles last time and may benefit from going back up in trip now. He was impressive when winning over an extended three miles at Punchestown back in November and is lightly-raced for a nine-year-old. Pictures Of Home is another who looks well suited by a stiff test of stamina having won over two-miles-seven here on his penultimate start. He could be a danger. Josh D'id takes a step up in trip now and is another for the shortlist having stayed on when fourth over two-and-a-half at Navan last month.
JOSH D'ID made an encouraging return at Navan last month and should have more to offer over fences. He gets the nod. Baldur's Gate and Pictures of Home rate the principal dangers.
Although WHERE'S FRANKIE has to be forgiven a poor run over hurdles here three weeks ago, he is worth a bet on overall course form

1st (6) (7/2 +56%) Capodanno |
7/2(+56%) | (6) Capodanno 7/2, High-class chaser. Stepped up on reappearance when good 23 lengths third of 8 to Galopin Des Champs in Savills Chase (80/1) at Leopardstown (24.4f, heavy) 30 days ago. Not the most fluent of jumpers but respected back down in class. Useful sort but all of his rivals have stronger claims on balance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (7/2 +22%) The Real Whacker |
7/2(+22%) | (5) The Real Whacker 7/2, Unbeaten in 3 novice chases at Cheltenham last season, culminating with a narrow defeat of Gerri Colombe in the Brown Advisory at the Festival. Had an excuse (struck into and lame on right-fore) when pulled up in the Paddy Power on reappearance but never on terms in King George since. This easier. 3-4 over fences at Cheltenham, notably a win in last year's Brown Advisory; appealing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (3/1 +14%) Stay Away Fay |
3/1(+14%) | (4) Stay Away Fay 3/1, Winner of the Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival in March before finishing fourth in another Grade 1 novice hurdle at Aintree. Has continued progress over fences, making it 2 from 2 in this sphere in Grade 2 novice at Sandown. Not taken lightly stepping out of novice company here. 2-2 since switched to chasing; bids to cement his claims for Grade 1 novice here in March. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (10/1 -54%) Ahoy Senor |
10/1(-54%) | (1) Ahoy Senor 10/1, Top-class chaser at best, as shown when winning this 12 months ago. Well held both starts this season, however, and becoming hard to catch right. Pulled up in both runs this season but is smart on his day; won this race last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (3) (5/1 +17%) Datsalrightgino |
5/1(+17%) | (3) Datsalrightgino 5/1, Ended a good novice chase campaign with a Grade 2 success over 20.5f at Ayr in April. Caught too far back in Old Roan at Aintree on reappearance and raised game significantly up in trip when landing Coral Gold Cup at Newbury. More to come over this distance. Successful in major 3m2f handicap at Newbury eight weeks ago; unexposed beyond 2m4f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (2) (6/1 -100%) Royale Pagaille |
6/1(-100%) | (2) Royale Pagaille 6/1, Claimed the scalp of Bravemansgame in the Betfair Chase at Haydock on return but his very best efforts have been reserved for that Lancashire venue so not sure to repeat that form under a penalty. Betfair Chase success took his Haydock record to 4-5; big player on ratings. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Royale Pagaille got back on track with a commanding win in the Betfair Chase last time out and, though he merits respect, ground conditions might not be ideal for him. With that in mind, preference is for last year's Albert Bartlett hero STAY AWAY FAY. Paul Nicholls' gelding maintained his unbeaten chase record when landing the Esher at Sandown last month and, with the prospect of further improvement, he could be the answer. The Real Whacker is fancied to chase them home, ahead of Datsalrightgino.
Claims can be made for all 6 but DATSALRIGHTGINO surely has more to offer over this sort of trip having raised his game significantly to win the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury and he's already proven at this level having won a Grade 2 novice at Ayr in the spring. He shades the vote over exciting novice Stay Away Fay and fellow Festival winner The Real Whacker.
The vote goes to 2023 Brown Advisory winner THE REAL WHACKER, ahead of promising novice chaser Stay Away Fay.

1st (1) (5/4 -51%) Marsh Wren |
5/4(-51%) | (1) Marsh Wren 5/4, Winner of 2 of her 3 starts over hurdles last term and hit the ground running over fences when landing 9-runner handicap at Warwick (20f) on her reappearance. Backed that up with good second in Mares Listed event at Wincanton since and holds strong claims. Runner-up in Listed race last time and she's open to more progress over fences; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (2/1 +60%) Endless Escape |
2/1(+60%) | (2) Endless Escape 2/1, Ex-pointer who enjoyed a productive campaign over hurdles last season, winning 4 times prior to a respectable seventh at Cheltenham on final outing. Promise on first of 2 starts over fences this winter and switch to handicaps may bring about improvement in this sphere. Cheekpieces on first time. 4-5 over hurdles but she's been well held in both chase runs; needs to raise her game. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (9/4 -29%) Ottoline |
9/4(-29%) | (3) Ottoline 9/4, Much improved on her third start over hurdles when winning novice at this course (22.2f, heavy) 36 days ago. Interesting that her shrewd handler sends her chasing for her handicapping debut and market strength may prove significant. Clearcut win over hurdles here last month and she's respected on chase debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Second in a Listed mares' chase at Wincanton last time out, MARSH WREN is the logical choice in spite of having to give weight away to her rivals now she is back in a handicap. Ottoline was a facile winner of a novice hurdle over 2m6f here last month and she edges out Endless Escape as the main threat to the selection on her chasing bow. The latter, who goes in first-time cheekpieces, has been highly tried but needs to better her two most recent efforts.
MARSH WREN brings solid chasing form to the table and can return to winning ways. Ottoline scored over hurdles here last time and is much respected on debut over the larger obstacles.
This can go to MARSH WREN, who was a good second in a Listed race last time and is open to more progress back in a handicap.

1st (2) (7/4 -7%) Ashroe Diamond |
7/4(-7%) | (2) Ashroe Diamond 7/4, Produced a mighty performance when winning the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Novices' Championship Final at Fairyhouse (20.4f, good to soft, 2/1) by 5 lengths in April. Ran as well as could have been expected when third in Hatton's Grace there on return and obvious claims back against her own sex. 3-6 over hurdles, including Grade 1 novice win last April; must be considered here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (9/2 -13%) Under Control |
9/2(-13%) | (3) Under Control 9/2, Only defeat in 5 starts over hurdles last season came when well held in Dawn Run at the Cheltenham Festival, bouncing back from that disappointing run to win handicaps at Cheltenham and Sandown in April. Shaped as if amiss at Newbury on return but better than that and yard has good record in this. Won two valuable handicaps last spring; clearly not herself on reappearance outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (10/11 +55%) Gala Marceau |
10/11(+55%) | (1) Gala Marceau 10/11, Edged out Lossiemouth in Grade 1 company at the Dublin Racing Festival before runner-up to that rival in Triumph at Cheltenham. Ran her best race to win for the second time at the top level in her age group at Auteuil when last seen in May and good chance she can defy penalty here. Top-class juvenile hurdler last season; back from a break today; leading contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (22/1 -83%) Say Goodbye |
22/1(-83%) | (5) Say Goodbye 22/1, Useful hurdler/chaser for Gordon Elliott but stiff task starting out for new yard. Won in US for Gordon Elliott in the autumn; makes stable debut here; others stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (40/1 -60%) Stainsby Girl |
40/1(-60%) | (6) Stainsby Girl 40/1, Excellent start for this yard last season, winning 3 times. Progressed again with a reappearance run behind her when second of 10 in 19f Haydock handicap. Too free at Cheltenham since and work to do here. Free-going front-runner; can be hard to catch when on song but ran poorly last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (300/1 -20%) Riccirella |
300/1(-20%) | (4) Riccirella 300/1, Poor mare who is totally out of her depth, Ran well in low-grade C&D handicap in November but faces very tall order today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
GALA MARCEAU only found Lossiemouth too good in the Triumph Hurdle last March and was last seen winning a Grade 1 in France a couple of months later. The lack of a recent run is a slight concern, but the daughter of Galiway could still prove to be too good for stablemate Ashroe Diamond. The latter struggled in the Hatton's Grace on her most recent outing but she was a winner at the highest level against her own sex at Fairyhouse last season. Under Control needs to improve to beat the aforementioned pair but she is next best.
Wille Mullins has won this twice in the last 10 years with Annie Power and Vroum Vroum Mag and has an excellent chance of adding to that with either GALA MARCEAU or Ashroe Diamond, with the former shading the vote on the back of her 7-length win in a Grade 1 at Auteuil in May.
Preference is for GALA MARCEAU, who quickly established herself as one of last season's very best juvenile hurdlers.

1st (3) (8/13 -9%) Jade De Grugy |
8/13(-9%) | (3) Jade De Grugy 8/13, Highly promising type. First run since leaving A. Fouassier when won 16-runner novice hurdle (5/4) at Leopardstown (20f, heavy) on IRE NH debut 30 days ago. Expected to be bang there. French import, trounced her rivals in a 2m4f maiden at Leopardstown, exciting prospect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (15/2 -25%) A Penny A Hundred |
15/2(-25%) | (2) A Penny A Hundred 15/2, Promising individual. 2 wins from 3 runs this season. 6/1, 6 lengths second of 6 to Jetara in listed hurdle at Punchestown (19.2f, heavy) 46 days ago. Remains open to inprovement and could be the main danger to stablemate Jade De Grugy. Bumper and maiden hurdle winner, no match for the improving Jetara at Punchestown. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (11/2 +45%) Look To The West |
11/2(+45%) | (6) Look To The West 11/2, Won 19-runner novice hurdle at Navan (16f, heavy, 9/4) on NH debut 69 days ago, pushed out. Open to improvement for respected connections and she's not discounted, for all that a good more will be needed here. Point winner in 2022, made a good impression in winning at Navan, trip should suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (15/2 +0%) Pink In The Park |
15/2(+0%) | (1) Pink In The Park 15/2, Useful hurdler. Good 7½ lengths second of 8 to Jetara in Irish EBF Mares' Hurdle (28/1) at Leopardstown (20f, soft) 29 days ago. Lacks the scope of her stablemates. Second to the smart Jetara over 2m4f at Leopardstown, has to concede 4lb to the others. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (9/1 +10%) Judicieuse Allen |
9/1(+10%) | (4) Judicieuse Allen 9/1, Fair hurdler. 1 win from 1 run this season. First run since leaving Gabriel Leenders when winning a 16-runner novice hurdle at Limerick (20f, heavy, 6/5) on IRE NH debut 31 days ago. Should progress but yard saddles stronger candidates. Narrow winner at Limerick, unlikely to be in the same league as stablemate Jade De Grugy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (200/1 -150%) Leahs Tricks |
200/1(-150%) | (5) Leahs Tricks 200/1, Modest hurdler. Successful here in October. 9/1, pulled up in handicap hurdle at Limerick (16f, heavy) 67 days ago, behind when pulled up before last. Uphill task. Game winner of an ordinary 2m mares' maiden here in October, faces a massive task. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (33/1 -50%) Miss Agusta |
33/1(-50%) | (7) Miss Agusta 33/1, Fair hurdler. 1 win from 2 runs this season. 22/1, 20½ lengths seventh of 9 to Birdie Or Bust in listed hurdle at Thurles (15.9f, good to soft) 41 days ago. Remains capable of better but probably biting off more than she can chew in this company. Maiden winner at Galway, finished 12l behind Pink In The Park in Grade 3 event at Thurles. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
JADE DE GRUGY looked very exciting on her Irish debut at Leopardstown over Christmas and can take another step up the ladder here. The Doctor Dino mare, a winner on the Flat in France, powered clear to beat a good yardstick in Butcher Hollow on her jumping debut and looks a very smart prospect in this mares division. Willie Mullins saddles three others in the race. Pink In The Park is the most experienced and sets a decent standard off a mark of 134. Henry de Bromhead's charge Look To The West is another unexposed sort that has to be respected. She was value for a bit more than her winning margin on her hurdling debut at Navan and should appreciate going another couple of furlongs.
French import JADE DE GRUGY looked good when making a winning hurdles debut at Leopardstown and she can be expected to take this step up in class in her stride. A Penny A Hundred, one of three others representing the Willie Mullins yard, could be the one to follow the selection home, while Look To The West is also accorded respect.
Willie Mullins has a terrific record in this race and can enhance it with JADE DE GRUGY who won in great style on her Irish debut

1st (2) (22/1 -38%) Elixir De Nutz |
22/1(-38%) | (2) Elixir De Nutz 22/1, Has returned better than ever this season, supplementing his Haldon Gold Cup success in November with another victory at Newbury (16.4f, good to soft) the following month. Another solid effort when 3 lengths third to Editeur du Gite at Kempton last month but this likely a bridge too far. Respectable third to Editeur Du Gite at Kempton but is now worse off with that rival. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (1/4 +31%) Jonbon |
1/4(+31%) | (4) Jonbon 1/4, Grade 1 winning hurdler who has quickly developed into a top-class chaser, his only defeat coming at the hands of El Fabiolo in last season's Arkle. Didn't need to match his effort in the Shloer to follow up in Tingle Creek at Sandown (15.4f, soft) 7 weeks ago and he's very hard to oppose. Cemented his Champion Chase credentials with two notable wins this term; top on ratings. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (10/1 +29%) Fugitif |
10/1(+29%) | (3) Fugitif 10/1, Looked a lot more mature last season, winning at Chepstow before a couple of good seconds in handicaps over 2½m at this venue. Finally landed a big pot in December Gold Cup here (20.6f, good to soft) 6 weeks ago but remains to be seen if he can make the step up to graded level. Cheekpieces back on. Got up late to win major 2m4f handicap here last month; this is a different scenario. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (22/1 -57%) Nube Negra |
22/1(-57%) | (5) Nube Negra 22/1, Landed very short odds to win his second Shloer Chase last term. Unable to live with Jonbon on first couple of starts this season but more at home when chasing home Editeur du Gite for a second successive year in Desert Orchid at Kempton over Christmas. Shouldn't be featuring. Appeal would heighten granted a drying surface; 4-5 on good ground over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (15/2 -15%) Editeur Du Gite |
15/2(-15%) | (1) Editeur Du Gite 15/2, Bold-jumping front-runner who landed the Desert Orchid at Kempton before battling well to score in this corresponding event last season. Back on song after a couple of below-par efforts when winning latest renewal of former event (now a handicap) last month and he's Jonbon's most obvious danger. Bounced back to win the Desert Orchid for a second time; bids for Clarence House double. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
All eyes will be on the classy JONBON, who made light work of his rivals in last month's Tingle Creek to take his chasing record to seven wins from eight. Nicky Henderson's charge holds all the aces with little concern regarding ground and tactics so, barring mishap, he should get the job done. Editeur Du Gite could be a threat if allowed too much rope at the head of affairs, while Elixir De Nutz is the pick of the remainder.
A fourth Clarence House staged here in the past 11 years following an abandonment at Ascot the previous week and with El Fabiolo staying at home, this looks a gilt-edged opportunity for JONBON to register an eighth success over fences before again locking horns with Willie Mullins' superstar in the Champion Chase at the Festival. Editeur du Gite rates as the obvious threat, while December Gold Cup winner Fugitif adds another layer of intrigue having another crack at graded level.
Last year's winner Editeur Du Gite is likely to play second fiddle if top rated JONBON doesn't take a sudden downturn.

1st (6) (9/4 +10%) Wolfspear |
9/4(+10%) | (6) Wolfspear 9/4, Won a Perth handicap in May 2022 and made light of a 16-month absence when producing a career best to double his hurdles tally in an 18-runner handicap at Exeter (18.5f, soft) in October. Lost no caste in defeat when runner-up at Market Rasen since and he's a key player. Won at Exeter on his comeback before a good second at Market Rasen; shortlisted. |

6/4(+63%) | (1) Benign Dictator 6/4, Better than ever when returning from a 6-month break to double his hurdle tally in 21f Warwick handicap. Respectable fourth at Chepstow (3m, heavy) since and, winner of a maiden hurdle on his latest visit here last February, he's one to consider. Yard also saddles Wolfspear. Won at Warwick on his return in November but he wasn't so good at Chepstow last month. |

3rd (7) (33/1 -230%) Toronet |
33/1(-230%) | (7) Toronet 33/1, Winner of a French claiming hurdle last February (subsequently claimed from Julien Phelippon for €19,999) but he hasn't fired in 2 starts for present connections. Hood applied. Won in France last February but he's been well held in both runs for current yard. |

4th (3) (4/1 -78%) Easy To Follow |
4/1(-78%) | (3) Easy To Follow 4/1, Made the frame all 4 starts in points and though safely held when third on Rules debut in Sedgefield bumper, she's since won both starts over hurdles, here and at Fontwell (both at around 2½m under testing conditions). Likeable type but more will be needed on this handicap debut. Has won both her hurdles runs and she should have more to offer in handicaps; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (6/1 +0%) Go Steady |
6/1(+0%) | (2) Go Steady 6/1, Dual winner of handicap chases last season and though below par in 3 starts over the larger obstacles this time round, he went close back hurdling over C&D in November. Reproduction of that effort would give him a fighting chance. Went close over C&D in his last hurdle run in November; in the mix back in this sphere. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (33/1 -83%) Sacre Pierre |
33/1(-83%) | (5) Sacre Pierre 33/1, Leicester winner on reappearance last season but has offered little in 3 subsequent starts, including on his return this time round at Haydock. Now tried in blinkers. Four-time hurdle winner but he's lost his way and needs a major revival; headgear added. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
EASY TO FOLLOW has been exactly that after remaining unbeaten over hurdles at Fontwell on her latest outing and she now makes her handicap bow off a rating of 116. She could have plenty more to offer and is taken to defy her opening mark to bring up the hat-trick. Top-weight Benign Dictator was put in his place in a class 3 event over an extended 2m7f at Chepstow last month, but he will find this easier and could have a say off an unchanged mark. Wolfspear completes the list after his second at Market Rasen in November.
Olly Murphy holds a strong hand here with both WOLFSPEAR and Benign Dictator holding strong claims. Marginal preference is for the former, who was a winner of his sole previous start under amateur rider Oliver Boyden at Exeter and he still has low mileage. If Go Steady matches the form of his close call over this C&D three starts back he will be a threat.
Top of the list is EASY TO FOLLOW, who is 2-2 over hurdles and could have a lot more to offer in this sphere.

Shaped as well as any when fourth in 3m Cheltenham Grade 2 subsequently and open to further progress. Improving but he's held by Destroytheevidence on their recent Cheltenham encounter. |

15/8(+37%) | (10) Welcom To Cartries 15/8, Easy winner of sole start in Irish points (Dec 2022) and, on the back of a breathing operation, shaped with plenty of encouragement when second in a maiden hurdle at Ascot in November. Confirmed that promise when going one better back there (21.6f) last month and remains open to improvement. Going away at the finish over Ascot's 2m5f and looks a strong stayer in the making. |

10/3(+0%) | (3) Destroytheevidence 10/3, Has hinted at temperament but made it 3 wins from 5 starts over hurdles in 5-runner handicap at Kempton (24.5f, soft) in November, eased run-in and value for around double the winning margin. Ran creditably up in grade when second at Cheltenham (3m) last time but did need stoking up early. Latest 2nd came in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham (3m) and he seems to stay well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (9/1 +0%) Range |
9/1(+0%) | (8) Range 9/1, Fair form in bumpers last season and confirmed his hurdling debut promise when winning 13-runner maiden at Chepstow (19.4f, heavy) 49 days ago. That effort is supported by the timefigure and he appeals as the sort to go on improving up in trip/grade. It was an ordinary race he won at Chepstow but he should improve some more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (18/1 -100%) Dripsey Moon |
18/1(-100%) | (4) Dripsey Moon 18/1, Dual point winner who looked potentially useful when making a successful hurdling debut at Perth in August. Shaped well in defeat under a penalty at Kelso and wasn't disgraced upped in grade at Limerick last month. Struggled in an Irish Grade 2 last time on testing ground; bit to find on his peak efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (25/1 -56%) Big Fish |
25/1(-56%) | (1) Big Fish 25/1, Promise in bumpers and returned from a lengthy absence with a professional performance to make a winning hurdling debut at Exeter (18.5) in October. Proved a little disappointing under a penalty at Warwick the following month and this isn't any easier. Likely that he never gave his running last time having looked potentially smart at Exeter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (13/2 +28%) I Love My Baie |
13/2(+28%) | (6) I Love My Baie 13/2, Likeable type who resumed winning ways back up in trip 4-runner novice hurdle at Ayr (20.4f, soft, 11/4) 38 days ago. Will stay 3m and likely to go well. 2-4 over hurdles; trying a new trip this time and there are stayers in the family. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (14/1 -56%) Esprit Du Potier |
14/1(-56%) | (5) Esprit Du Potier 14/1, Dual bumper winner who produced a dominant display when opening his hurdle account at the third attempt in a 7-runner maiden at Ayr (20.4f) 25 days ago. This is harder but he could have more to offer now upped to 3m. Improved for 2m4f when making all at Ayr and might well improve again for going this far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (100/1 -400%) Chosen Templar |
100/1(-400%) | (2) Chosen Templar 100/1, Bumper winner for P. O'Rourke who made a successful hurdling/stable debut in 6-runner novice hurdle (11/4) at Musselburgh (23.8f, soft) 22 days ago, driven out. This demands an awful lot more but he's open to improvement nonetheless. Wasn't impressive at Musselburgh and likely to be exposed at this loftier level. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Destroytheevidence arguably sets the standard based on his second in a similar event at Cheltenham last month. That said, marginal preference is for WELCOM TO CARTRIES, who confirmed the promise of his second on Rules debut at Ascot with an impressive win at the same venue a month ago. The step up in trip should suit Paul Nicholls' gelding and he looks to have a very bright future. Others to consider are Kerryhill and Range.
Another competitive renewal of this Grade 2. I LOVE MY BAIE added to a positive profile when resuming winning ways in a small-field event at Ayr last month and, with this step up to 3m promising to suit, he earns the vote. There are plenty of dangers however, with the promising Welcom To Cartries and Kerryhill topping the list.
Welcom To Cartries is feared but DESTROYTHEEVIDENCE deserves the vote on the strength of his second over this far at Cheltenham.

11/8(+50%) | (10) Western Diego 11/8, Useful bumper winner who failed to see his race out sent hurdling when fifth of 24 in a maiden (4/6) at Cork (16.8f, heavy) 48 days ago, weakening quickly. Capable of better but needs to learn to settle. Point/bumper winner; good 7th in Champion Bumper but not near that level since. |

7/2(-27%) | (7) Shoot The Blues 7/2, Made a successful debut in pretty taking fashion in 10-runner bumper (5/2) at Limerick (16f, soft) 15 months ago. Not seen since but still rates an interesting hurdling debutant. Lots to like about debut win in bumper; form nothing special but likely improver if fit. |

16/5(+4%) | (9) Undeniable Alibi 16/5, Easy winner of sole outing in points but proved to be a disappointment when only fifth of 10 in bumper at this C&D (soft) on Rules debut 55 days ago. Switches to hurdles and ought to be capable of much better. Punchestown point winner; turned over at evens on rules debut; may need further. |

Should go well again. French bumper winner; promise since, most notably latest at Leopardstown; needs more again. |

Not seen since but still open to improvement. Flat winner; distant 8th on hurdle bow wasn't devoid of promise but off 613 days. |

7th (11) (33/1 -32%) Stagecoach Mary |
33/1(-32%) | (11) Stagecoach Mary 33/1, Fair in bumpers and offered something to work on when eighth of 25 in a maiden at Naas (16f, soft) on hurdles bow 15 days ago. Should progress. Narrowly denied in a bumper in August; hasn't looked quite as effective over shorter since. |

Dam unraced half-sister to fairly useful hurdler/chaser (21f-23f winner) Topsham Belle. Pulled up sole start in points (Apr 2022). Wears tongue strap. Pulled up on only point start in April 2022; unlikely to be suited by this test. |

|PU| (1) (200/1 -33%) Duke Of Doyen |
200/1(-33%) | (1) Duke Of Doyen 200/1, Well beaten in 3 maiden hurdles. Pulled up both 2021 starts and showed very little for new yard towards end of last year. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
WESTERN DIEGO may be able to get back on track here after a disappointing show on his hurdling debut at Cork last month. The Westerner gelding, seventh in last year's Cheltenham bumper, ran much too freely and made a few errors on his first outing over timber, easing down in the closing stages to finish a well beaten fifth. He should be capable of a good bit better. Shoot The Blues looked a nice prospect when winning a bumper on debut back in October 2022. He has a long absence to overcome but commands respect from an in-form yard. Jack Kennedy takes the mount on Undeniable Alibi from the two Gordon Elliott runners. The Saint de Saints gelding won a point-to-point last year but was turned over at a short price on his 'track' debut in a bumper here early last month. He may do better now over jumps.
UNDENIABLE ALIBI failed to meet expectations in a C&D bumper last month, but he's clearly thought capable of a good deal better and can be given another chance making a quick switch to hurdling. Shoot The Blues landed a Limerick bumper in taking fashion on his debut in October 2022 and warrants plenty of respect for all that he hasn't been seen since. Western Diego remains with potential based on his useful bumper form and must enter calculations, too.
SHOOT THE BLUES could be the one to side with after a likeable debut performance in a Limerick bumper and his yard are in-form

2nd (5) (4/1 -100%) Love Envoi |
4/1(-100%) | (5) Love Envoi 4/1, Very smart hurdler who looked decidedly rusty when second to Not So Sleepy in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Sandown 49 days ago. Should be much sharper for that run and has the ability to trouble Lossiemouth. Performed very well at last two Cheltenham Festivals; leading player on these terms. |

3rd (2) (12/1 +14%) First Street |
12/1(+14%) | (2) First Street 12/1, Very useful winning hurdler who was farm from disgraced when third to Constitution Hill in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton a month ago. Rubaud seemingly has the beating of him, though. Below best at Kempton this term, finishing behind Rubaud on two occasions. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (8/1 -60%) Rubaud |
8/1(-60%) | (1) Rubaud 8/1, Building up a good record over hurdles, his speed again in evidence when making all in a Kempton listed and Wincanton Grade 2 this autumn. Lost nothing in defeat to Constitution Hill in the Christmas Hurdle at former track last time and another bold showing is likely. No match for Constitution Hill at Christmas but remains of interest; largely progressive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (18/1 +45%) Guard Your Dreams |
18/1(+45%) | (3) Guard Your Dreams 18/1, Developed into a smart and likeable hurdler in 2022. Has been off the track almost two years, however and, even if retaining all of his ability, he has a bit to find. Won this race in 2021 but badly lacks recent match practice (off since April 2022). |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Love Envoi is a talented individual, as evidenced when finishing runner-up to Honeysuckle in last year's Mares' Hurdle. She is taken to go well but LOSSIEMOUTH might be too strong. Off the track since landing the Champion Four Year Old Hurdle at Punchestown in April, the five-year-old can stamp her authority at this level before moving up the class ladder later on in the season. Rubaud lost nothing in defeat when finishing second behind the flawless Constitution Hill at Kempton on Boxing Day and he is not without a chance.
LOSSIEMOUTH is the class act in this field and, while she's been off the track longer than connections would have liked, she should be straight enough to make a successful reappearance. Love Envoi is an obvious danger in the expectation that she comes on for her reappearance, and Rubaud is respected having been beaten only by Constitution Hill last time.
Lossiemouth has been virtually flawless but a plausible alternative is LOVE ENVOI, who has the best chance at the weights.

1st (5) (2/1 -14%) Good Friday Fairy |
2/1(-14%) | (5) Good Friday Fairy 2/1, Steadily progressive over hurdles last season and got off the mark over fences at the second attempt when the sole finisher at Fontwell (19.5f, heavy) last month. Better form when shaping best in defeat at Exeter on New Year's Day and this accurate jumper looks capable of even better. Maiden hurdle winner; in good form over fences; useful effort at Exeter latest (2m3f). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (9/2 -50%) Greenrock Abbey |
9/2(-50%) | (3) Greenrock Abbey 9/2, Yet to finish outside of the placings over fences, albeit never really landing a blow when third of 7 in handicap chase at Chepstow (16f, heavy) 31 days ago, Should give another good account if seeing out the longer trip. Suited by 2m; acts well on soft but well held on heavy latest; trip query back at 2m4f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (14/1 -40%) One Fine Man |
14/1(-40%) | (1) One Fine Man 14/1, Landed back-to-back 2m handicaps at Carlisle/Ayr in February for James Moffatt. Not seen to best effect under patient ride on return and unseated before race developed at Doncaster last time, but remains to be seen whether he's as good for yard with few jumps runners. Both chase wins at 2m; finished remote for new yard, then unseated latest; down in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (7) (9/1 +10%) Thor De Cerisy |
9/1(+10%) | (7) Thor De Cerisy 9/1, Last of 5 finishers but shaped better than previously for current yard in a tightly-bunched finished over C&D (heavy) 36 days ago. Whether he can build on that remains to be seen. Acts well in the mud; well treated and best run for new yard over C&D latest; a player. |

|U| (6) (11/4 +54%) Fiston De Becon |
11/4(+54%) | (6) Fiston De Becon 11/4, Struck at second time of asking for this stable in 2m Wetherby maiden hurdle in January before doubling up at Market Rasen. Given a considerate introduction to chasing when fourth at Newbury last time and he's entitled to do better. Won 2 out of 3 completions over hurdles for this yard; encouraging chase debut at Newbury. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (11/1 +45%) Danilo D'airy |
11/1(+45%) | (8) Danilo D'airy 11/1, Won first 3 starts in handicap chases but went the wrong way subsequently and though he stopped the slide to some extent when fifth of 7 in handicap chase at Wetherby (24.2f, heavy) 59 days ago, others still make far greater appeal. Won three times at about 3m1f in 2021; pulled up next 4 runs; better latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (17/2 -70%) Fulgurix |
17/2(-70%) | (2) Fulgurix 17/2, Signed off last season with a game success at at Sedgefield (21.1f, heavy). Up only 2 lb and merits respect if fully tuned up on return from 9-month absence. Lacks recent run but can go well fresh; 2m5f winner last April; may have more to come. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (50/1 -150%) Kalkas |
50/1(-150%) | (4) Kalkas 50/1, Fairly useful chaser at best for Henry de Bromhead but showed very little making debut for current yard after 20 months off at Leicester earlier in the month and he's got plenty to prove now. Useful novice chase form at 2m1f in Ireland but well held for new yard after long absence. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Good Friday Fairy continued his fine form when hitting the crossbar at Exeter earlier in the month and is likely to be on the premises off a 3lb higher rating. However, a chance can be taken on FISTON DE BECON, who was sent off a big price to stay on for a never-nearer fourth over an extended 2m at Newbury last month and was dropped 2lb for that display. Olly Murphy's gelding steps up in trip and could improve from that run to go close. Greenrock Abbey is another to note.
GOOD FRIDAY FAIRY has proved himself a natural over fences since making the switch to larger obstacles and can resume winning ways after an arguably unlucky reversal at Exexter last time. Fiston de Becon wasn't given a hard time on chase debut but looks the sort who should take to fences and is capable of improvement, whilst Fulgurix is also respected on his comeback run.
There was much to like about the feisty display of GOOD FRIDAY FAIRY (nap) at Exeter and he still has some improvement left.

1st (8) (16/1 +20%) Annual Invictus |
16/1(+20%) | (8) Annual Invictus 16/1, Very capable chaser/hurdler on his day and latest success in a Newbury handicap hurdle last February was gained off a 2 lb higher mark. However, he's not the most reliable on the whole and looks vulnerable back in this sphere. Reappearance over hurdles could have teed him up for this, but career best required. |

2nd (12) (11/1 -38%) Forward Plan |
11/1(-38%) | (12) Forward Plan 11/1, Took well to fences last season, winning twice around 3m at Southwell. Better than the bare result on return at Wincanton and subsequently produced a career-best when proving 1½ lengths too strong for Mister Coffey over C&D. 4 lb rise fair enough and he's high on the shortlist. Came from off the pace to deny Mister Coffey over C&D latest; 4lb rise very fair. |

3rd (16) (50/1 +24%) Charlie Uberalles |
50/1(+24%) | (16) Charlie Uberalles 50/1, Dual 3m chase winner in 2022 but hasn't shown much in 2 starts since returning from an absence of almost 14 months in November. Lightly raced chaser who could outrun his odds but others appeal more for win purposes. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (12/1 +14%) Sail Away |
12/1(+14%) | (2) Sail Away 12/1, Made it to the racecourse just twice last season, latterly running his rivals ragged in an 8-runner Ayr handicap (3m, good). Beaten fair and square in handicaps won by Kandoo Kid at Newbury and Forward Plan over this C&D last month, though, and he's likely to find a few too strong once again. Below par this season but returning to good ground looks a major positive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (12/1 +14%) Erne River |
12/1(+14%) | (9) Erne River 12/1, Returned to form when landing a 6-runner handicap chase in first-time cheekpieces over C&D last month, enhancing his good record here in the process. Remains on a good mark back up 3 lb and he could be a factor, provided the headgear works equally well second time round. In new cheekpieces when an idling winner over C&D a month ago; not sure to repeat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (10/1 +0%) Mister Coffey |
10/1(+0%) | (4) Mister Coffey 10/1, Talented but rather frustrating type who remains a maiden following 11 starts in this sphere. However, the majority of his efforts over fences have been solid, not least when 1½ lengths second to Forward Plan over C&D last time, and should be in the mix if responding well to first-time cheekpieces. Somehow remains a maiden over fences (0-11) after any number of notable efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (14/1 +44%) Latitude |
14/1(+44%) | (7) Latitude 14/1, Progressed last season, winning twice during the spring, and stepped up on low-key reappearance effort when going close at Ludlow in December. Respectable third at Kempton (3m, good to soft) since and worth a second look returned to a left-handed track. Competitive mark but the depth of today's race demands a career best from him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (18/1 +18%) Whistleinthedark |
18/1(+18%) | (3) Whistleinthedark 18/1, Ended last season unbeaten over fences, easily winning 2½m Perth handicap on final start of that campaign. Struggled on return at Cheltenham, though, and while his subsequent fourth of 11 in the C&D handicap won by Forward Plan was more like it, he essentially looks vulnerable. 4-6 over fences; has each-way claims on the strength of his fourth here in December. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (33/1 -18%) Richmond Lake |
33/1(-18%) | (1) Richmond Lake 33/1, Quickly got his act together over fences last season and progressed again to complete a four-timer in 9-runner handicap chase at Aintree in December. However, well held in a valuable race at Cheltenham on New Year's Day and, though eased 2 lb since, he remains on a stiff-looking mark. High in the weights, unproven over this far and he probably wants softer ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (10/1 -11%) Surrey Quest |
10/1(-11%) | (10) Surrey Quest 10/1, Dual hurdles winner for Nicky Henderson and improved when opening chase account on return/debut for new yard at Huntingdon in October. Followed up on the back of a wind op at Newbury (3¼m, soft) and very much one to consider, for all that a 7 lb rise for his latest success asks a question. Front two were clear at Newbury and could prove himself worthy of this 7lb higher mark.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (18) (11/1 -10%) Cap Du Nord |
11/1(-10%) | (18) Cap Du Nord 11/1, Grand servant to connections but out of sorts in recent months and yard saddles a more appealing candidate in Strictlyadancer. Placed in the last three renewals of this race and could leave recent efforts behind him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (17) (9/1 +44%) Twoshotsoftequila |
9/1(+44%) | (17) Twoshotsoftequila 9/1, Strong-travelling sort got off the mark over fences in 6-runner C&D handicap (good) last March. Knocking on the door this season, runner-up first 2 starts prior to finishing a creditable third to Forward Plan back here last time. Place possibilities. Goes well over C&D so should give his running and could quite easily be involved. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (15) (17/2 -21%) Sweet Will |
17/2(-21%) | (15) Sweet Will 17/2, Multiple hurdles winner last season, including at this course, and positive start for this yard when second in 9-runner handicap chase at Fairyhouse. Hampered by a faller at the final fence at Leopardstown next time and he's one to consider. Respectable 2m5f runs in Ireland the last twice; course winner over 3m as a hurdler. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (13/2 +7%) Famous Bridge |
13/2(+7%) | (6) Famous Bridge 13/2, Likeable and progressive stayer who again found plenty for pressure when emerging on top in the Tommy Whittle at Haydock (25.6f, heavy). Couldn't grumble with a 4 lb rise and he appears to be versatile ground-wise, so he has plenty going for him. Improving staying chaser whose heart is in the right place; should have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (13/2 +35%) Kandoo Kid |
13/2(+35%) | (5) Kandoo Kid 13/2, Bumper/hurdles winner in 2021 who made it third time lucky over fences at Newbury (19.8f, good to soft) in December. Runner-up in a Grade 2 novice at the same course next time and while his mark has suffered as a result (raised 5 lb), this step up in trip is an interesting move. Not out of the first two in any of his four chases, the latest a Grade 2 at Ascot. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (28/1 -75%) Cooper's Cross |
28/1(-75%) | (11) Cooper's Cross 28/1, Winner of this race off 3 lb lower mark last term and ended that campaign with an excellent second in the Scottish National at Ayr. However, he hasn't shown much in 3 starts so far this season. Out of form but tries new headgear and won this last season in first-time cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (14) (28/1 -12%) Strictlyadancer |
28/1(-12%) | (14) Strictlyadancer 28/1, Won 3 on the bounce over fences during 2021/22 campaign and, having missed the whole of last season, he has shown that plenty of ability remains since returning to action in October. Latest Kempton second was a solid effort and couldn't rule out with the drying ground in his favour. Second at Kempton latest; looks to be coming to the boil and could go well at a price. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (13) (33/1 -106%) Hascoeur Clermont |
33/1(-106%) | (13) Hascoeur Clermont 33/1, Off the mark over fences at Galway in October and improved again when adding to his tally in a big-field Cheltenham handicap (25f, soft) the following month. Struggled off a mark 2 lb lower than this at Ascot last time, though. Hood refitted. Dropped away up the straight in Ascot's hat-trick bid; he's better than that. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
A tentative vote goes to FAMOUS BRIDGE, who only ever seems to do just enough in his races and a mark of 139 could still underestimate him. Nicky Richards' charge has won four of his last five starts and he gets the vote ahead of last year's runner-up Cap Du Nord, who arrives off 4lb lower, as well as Sweet Will for the shrewd Emmet Mullins team. Forward Plan had Mister Coffey (second) and Twoshotsoftequila (third) behind when scoring over C&D last month and each are entitled to figure again, along with Strictlyadancer and Surrey Quest.
While several of these have appealing claims, FAMOUS BRIDGE is clearly going from strength-to-strength and he is taken to take another step up the ladder by bagging this prize. Nicky Richards' charge may have most to fear from Forward Plan, who had a handful of these rivals behind when scoring over C&D last time and he remains on a feasible mark. The hat-trick seeking Surrey Quest and Irish-raider Sweet Will both enter calculations, while Erne River is also worthy of consideration.
A whole host have chances but the novice KANDOO KID brings plenty of potential over this longer trip. Mister Coffey is next best.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
TIME FOR TEA gets the vote in a maiden hurdle for horses that have run at least three times under Rules and not finished in the first three. The Henry de Bromhead-trained mare has progressed steadily in three maiden hurdle starts this term including behind Predators Gold at Punchestown, and last time divided subsequent winners Purse Price and Mount Frisco when fourth to The Other Mozzie at Down Royal's Christmas meeting. Only A Dollar has also shown some promise in four starts including behind Binge Worthy at Limerick last month, while others to consider include Midweek Voices, Magic Sadler and Paddy's Milestone.
NOW IS THE HOUR looked set to justify strong support until departing 2 out at Limerick last month and is fancied to make amends. Only A Dollar and Time For Tea are both going the right way so can fill the places.
NOW IS THE HOUR may have won without coming down at Limerick latest and he can gain compensation in this lesser race

1st (6) (3/1 +45%) Noble Yeats |
3/1(+45%) | (6) Noble Yeats 3/1, Top-class chaser who landed the 2022 Grand National. Tongue tied/off 7 months and not disgraced back at 2m4f on just his second run over hurdles when second of 4 in conditions event at Limerick 31 days ago. No forlorn hope with his stamina drawn out more here. Has to be feared on chase form, such as when fourth in last year's Cheltenham Gold Cup. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (11/4 +21%) Paisley Park |
11/4(+21%) | (4) Paisley Park 11/4, Veteran stayer but he showns no signs of slowing down and has gone down only narrrowly in Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury (6 lb better off with Dashel Drasher) and Ascot's Long Walk Hurdle (beaten short head by Crambo) this term. Already a three-time winner of this and looks the one to beat again. Tremendous stayer who is bidding for a fourth success in this race; commands respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (11/1 +21%) Strong Leader |
11/1(+21%) | (7) Strong Leader 11/1, Smart novice hurdler last season (won 3 times at 2m) and not discredited upped in trip when in the frame in Ascot Grade 2 and Relkeel Hurdle here this winter. More is needed though on his first go at 3m with cheekpieces added. Jury's out on whether he'll stay this new trip; headgear applied. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (4/1 +0%) Dashel Drasher |
4/1(+0%) | (3) Dashel Drasher 4/1, Tough and likeable sort who narrowly denied Paisley Park in Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury in December (6 lb worse off here) and backed it up with a solid third of 10 to Crambo in Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot. Runner-up in this 12 months ago and he's well in the mix again. Runner-up in this contest last year; very consistent and looks sure to go well again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (7/1 -17%) Champ |
7/1(-17%) | (2) Champ 7/1, Very talented hurdler/chaser who resumed after 8 months off/wind op with a good fourth of 10 to Crambo in Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot last month. Needs considering with that run under his belt. Very smart on his day and could go well with Long Walk reappearance under his belt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (13/2 +41%) Botox Has |
13/2(+41%) | (1) Botox Has 13/2, Enhanced a good record fresh when adding a West Yorkshire Hurdle to his CV at Wetherby in November. Not disgraced when sixth of 10 to Crambo in Long Walk Hurdle at Ascotfollowing month so this course winner is shortlisted with visor added. Came up short in this race 12 months ago and in the Long Walk at Ascot last time out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (20/1 -25%) Flight Deck |
20/1(-25%) | (5) Flight Deck 20/1, Smart on his day for Jonjo O'Neill and he has taken his form up a notch for his current yard this term, posting an excellent 1¾ lengths third of 6 to Dashel Drasher in Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury last month. Can't be ruled out. Good third in handicap at this venue and Grade 2 at Newbury for new yard this term. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Strong Leader looked to be a hurdler to keep on the right side of when finishing second in the Grade 1 Top Novices' Hurdle at Aintree last spring, but Olly Murphy's gelding hasn't quite scaled the same heights since. However, the application of cheekpieces, combined with this hike up in trip, can see him outrun his forecast odds. PAISLEY PARK is already a three-time winner of this race and he should make a bold bid to gain a fourth. Emma Lavalle's superstar has hit the woodwork on his last two outings and he may make amends here. Dashel Drasher is another key player, but did finish behind the selection at Ascot last month.
PAISLEY PARK has yet to get his head in front this season but has gone with all his old verve in two narrow reverses so this remarkable stayer is fancied to bag a fourth Cleeve Hurdle victory. Dashel Drasher is another most likeable hurdler but he again might have to settle for runner-up spot. Flight Deck, Champ and Botox Has can't be discounted either in a cracking Grade 2.
Grand stalwart PAISLEY PARK (nap) is taken to bag a fourth Cleeve Hurdle. Dashel Drasher is second choice.

1st (7) (8/1 -100%) Here Comes Mccoy |
8/1(-100%) | (7) Here Comes Mccoy 8/1, Made an inauspicious start over fences on return last term but he has posted pair of respectable efforts over hurdles this season. Foolish to rule out better in this sphere and interesting if the market speaks in his favour. Up in trip. On dangerous mark back over fences and could be a factor if he can put in a clear round. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (2/1 +65%) Sporting Ace |
2/1(+65%) | (3) Sporting Ace 2/1, Consistent over hurdles and proved himself even better in this sphere when off the mark at second attempt at Chepstow (23.6f) in December. Still light on experience and could only midfield in Sussex National earlier this month. Back down in trip/cheekpieces refitted. Didn't fire in the Sussex National but he still has potential over fences; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (9/1 -13%) Grove Road |
9/1(-13%) | (5) Grove Road 9/1, Sedgefield bumper winner who looked a promising stayer in the making when winning a brace of novice hurdles in late 2022. Reappearance third in a Ffos Las handicap (3m, heavy) in November but not in same form in 2 starts over fences/hurdles since. Blinkers reached for now. Has a similar profile to Ballydisco and he needs to get back on track; first-time blinkers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (8/1 -33%) Ballydisco |
8/1(-33%) | (4) Ballydisco 8/1, Made an inauspicious start over fences at Chepstow last month and again well below form returned to timber at Taunton (23.9f) 4 weeks ago. Needs to get back on track. Pulled up on chase debut last month and was well held over hurdles last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (9/2 -13%) No But I Will |
9/2(-13%) | (2) No But I Will 9/2, Point/hurdles winner who left reappearance effort well behind when making successful chase debut at Wetherby in November, impressing with his jumping and asserting run-in. Well beaten at Aintree (25f) over Christmas but bounce back distinctly possible now. Unexposed chaser; flopped at Aintree on Boxing Day but has claims if he can bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (9/2 -29%) Well Dick |
9/2(-29%) | (1) Well Dick 9/2, £135,000 purchase who made a bright start over hurdles last term, making it 2 wins from 4 starts when landing match at Hexham (23.3f) in March. Chasing type on appearance (Irish point winner) and feasible to think he can make his mark now handicapping over larger obstacles. Point and dual hurdle winner who is interesting on his handicap/chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (11/1 -83%) Phantom Getaway |
11/1(-83%) | (6) Phantom Getaway 11/1, Winning Irish pointer. Improved when off the mark in 3m Ffos Las handicap on his reappearance last season. Failed to match that form next 2 starts, however, and similarly not figured in pair o chase tries following a wind op initially winter. Cheekpieces back on. Has struggled in both runs over fences this season and he needs to turn things around. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (14/1 +30%) Mister Bo |
14/1(+30%) | (8) Mister Bo 14/1, Bumper winner in Ireland and fair form on best run over hurdles for Henry de Bromhead. However, failed to complete in 2 starts over hurdles/fences for new stable. Pulled up in both runs for this yard including on chase debut at Wetherby; lots to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Conditions should suit the Neil King-trained SPORTING ACE, who had excuses when running below-par in the Sussex National last time, having been sent off as favourite. The son of Shantou ought to benefit from a drop in grade and the return to a more conventional track, while forecast ground conditions should also be in his favour. Fellow class-dropper No But I Will has a few questions to answer having been well held at Aintree on Boxing Day, but he must enter the reckoning along with former point winner Well Dick, who makes his chasing debut having been off the track since March.
NO BUT I WILL needs to shrug off a lesser display at Aintree over Christmas but he'd previously looked one to keep onside when scoring in determined style on chase debut at Wetherby and he's worth another chance to get back on the up. Well Dick was 2-4 and, very much a chaser on looks, he should be up to making his mark in this sphere. Here Comes McCoy and Sporing Ace are not out of things either.
The vote goes to WELL DICK, who was 2-4 over hurdles last season and is an interesting contender on this handicap/chase debut.

1st (7) (7/1 +50%) Egbert |
7/1(+50%) | (7) Egbert 7/1, Form over hurdles tailed off last last season but he made a successful switch to chasing, albeit in rather laboured fashion, at Kempton in November. Again went in snatches when pulled up in handicap chase at this C&D (good to soft) 43 days ago. Visor now reached for. Won under determined ride on chase debut but never warmed to the task last time; visor on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (5/1 +0%) Snipe |
5/1(+0%) | (6) Snipe 5/1, Created good impression when cruising clear in a 5-runner handicap at Southwell on chase debut and added to a solid start over fences when winning 6-runner event at Aintree (25f, heavy, 18/5) 32 days ago. Strong-travelling sort merits consideration from 6 lb higher mark. Made smooth headway before asserting at Aintree on Boxing Day and is now 2-4 over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (11/4 +45%) Young Buster |
11/4(+45%) | (2) Young Buster 11/4, Won one of 4 starts over hurdles and has taken very well to chasing, maintaining his unbeaten record over fences in a 5-runner handicap chase at Kelso (22.3f, heavy) 29 days ago. Up another 7 lb but can go well again with cheekpieces applied for 1st time. 3-3 over fences and may have more improvement to come if aided by new cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (4/1 +27%) Donny Boy |
4/1(+27%) | (5) Donny Boy 4/1, Improved from a tentative performance on chase debut when arguably shaping best in a 7-runner handicap at Newcastle (23.4f, good to soft) 35 days ago, only just failing after a delayed challenge. Respected from 3 lb higher mark. Ran big race and lost out only narrowly at Newcastle last month; major player here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (10/1 -82%) Galon De Vauzelle |
10/1(-82%) | (8) Galon De Vauzelle 10/1, Produced a career best in a change of headgear when 12-runner handicap chase at Leopardstown (21.3f, soft, 10/1) 29 days ago. Bit more needed here to compete from slightly out of the weights in this grade. Belatedly off the mark over fences in new headgear last month; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (4/1 +60%) Wiseguy |
4/1(+60%) | (4) Wiseguy 4/1, Lightly-raced winning 3m hurdler who went in at the first time of asking over fences in 9-runner handicap chase at Exeter (24.2f, soft) in November. Let down by jumping at Cheltenham last time but remains one to view positively in this sphere. Didn't jump well enough last time but can still progress from his winning chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (10/1 -43%) Stellar Magic |
10/1(-43%) | (3) Stellar Magic 10/1, Fairly useful hurdler who won his only outing in points and came good at the third attempt over fences when scoring at Wincanton on Boxing Day. Drop back in trip a slight concern, though. Change of headgear. Returned to form in first-time blinkers last month; tried in a visor here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
YOUNG BUSTER has made a perfect start to his chasing career and he always looked in control when landing the hat-trick at Kelso last month. A further 7lb rise looks manageable with the step up in trip expected to bring about further improvement. Irish raider Galon De Vauzelle and comfortable Aintree scorer Snipe may give the selection most to think about. A former Grade 1 winner over hurdles, Monmiral has yet to ignite in this sphere but cannot be ruled out either.
MONMIRAL maybe hasn't quite achieved as much over fences as might have been expected but this represents a significant drop in grade for Paul Nicholls' charge and he's fancied to successfully concede weight all round. Young Buster is 3-3 over fences and should pose a significant threat again, whilst Snipe has also taken well to chasing and is another player to attempt to follow up last month's Aintree success.
Top of the list is DONNY BOY, who ran a big race in defeat on good ground last month and would be an appropriate winner at this track.

2nd (8) (14/1 -100%) Duffys Getaway |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (11/1 -120%) Givehimthehonour |
11/1(-120%) | (7) Givehimthehonour 11/1, 18/1, very good third of 16 in handicap hurdle at this course (20.6f, heavy) 26 days ago. More to offer so he's a player nudged up just 1 lb. Point winner; big run on h'cap debut here latest and further sure to suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (11) (9/2 +10%) One Big Bang |
9/2(+10%) | (11) One Big Bang 9/2, Promising individual. 9/2, creditable third of 13 in handicap hurdle at Limerick (24f, heavy) 30 days ago. Enters calculations with few miles still on the clock. Has run 2 nice races in defeat this winter but may bump into a couple on better marks. |

5th (6) (8/1 +0%) Mont Saint Vincent |
8/1(+0%) | (6) Mont Saint Vincent 8/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2021 but arrives in good nick, going keenly when fading sixth of 13 in handicap hurdle at Limerick (24f, heavy) 30 days ago. Has good chance on form. Maiden hurdle winner in 2021 but no wins since and he's inconsistent; mark is fair. |

|PU| (10) (11/10 +67%) Mighty Oak Lad |
11/10(+67%) | (10) Mighty Oak Lad 11/10, 1 win from 3 runs this season. Career best when easily winning 10-runner handicap hurdle at this course (24.2f, heavy, 7/2) 26 days ago. Likely to improve. Can go well again despite 16 lb hike in the weights. Tailed off first 6 runs; bolted up when well backed early this month; may defy 16lb rise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (14/1 +13%) Balkito |
14/1(+13%) | (4) Balkito 14/1, Refused in handicap hurdle (9/1) at Punchestown (24.4f, soft) 62 days ago. Tongue strap on for 1st time. Others appeal more. Refused at last when last seen but was returning from 10 month break; may be on good mark. |

First run for yard after leaving Olly Murphy. Off for a year; struggling over fences when last seen; best watched on belated return. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
ONE BIG BANG appreciated the step up to this trip at Limerick last month when keeping on well into third behind Ishan with Sir Bob about four lengths back in fourth and Mont Saint Vincent held in sixth. The point-to-point winner was having just his second run in a handicap and probably has more scope for improvement. Sir Bob relishes a test of stamina exemplified by his win in the Cork Grand National in November and the veteran remains on a competitive mark 15lb lower than his current chase rating. Givehimthehonour kept on into third over 2m5f at Fairyhouse on New Year's Day and the point-to-point winner tries this trip for the first time under Rules while Mighty Oak Lad readily landed a gamble on the same card, with C&D winner Duffys Getaway soundly beaten in third, but has gone up 16lb as a result.
A few of these offer potential, not least Paul Nolan's GIVEHIMTHEHONOUR who teed himself up well for a breakthrough success when a promising third on his handicap bow here last time out. Both One Big Bang and Mighty Oak Lad appeal as likely improvers too and must enter calculations along with the handily-weighted Mont Saint Vincent.
It's hard to oppose MIGHTY OAK LAD despite his rise in weights. He won by 11 lengths last time and a 16lb rise may not be enough

(8) (66/1 -100%)66/1(-100%) | (8) Moon D'orange 66/1, Landed a maiden hurdle Cartmel last May and has produced fine efforts in defeat on his last 3 starts, including when third in a 10-runner Grade 2 here (3m, good to soft) last month. First-time cheekpieces he sported that day are retained on this debut for new yard. Vulnerable to less exposed types. Sole win came at Cartmel; good third in a Grade 2 here last time but this demands more. |

15/2(+46%) | (7) Lucky Place 15/2, Runner-up only start in bumpers back in May and having filled same spot on hurdles debut in November, he took a marked step forward to open his account in big-field Doncaster novice (19.4f, good to soft) next time. Lost no caste in defeat at Taunton since and he's not without each-way chance. Bolted up at Doncaster and was conceding a stone to the useful winner at Taunton. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (18/1 -50%) Isaac Des Obeaux |
18/1(-50%) | (4) Isaac Des Obeaux 18/1, Failed to build on promise of Chepstow debut success in bumpers last term and safely held on return/hurdles bow here (Old Course) in October. Much-improved since, scoring twice over 19.4f back at Chepstow, and he's likely to continue to progress. However, this demands a significant step forward. Impressive the last twice at Chepstow but he is tackling far stronger company this time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (11/2 -22%) Johnnywho |
11/2(-22%) | (5) Johnnywho 11/2, Wide-margin winner of sole start between the flags and successful in a Taunton bumper and 2½m Carlisle novice hurdle on first 2 starts under Rules. Didn't look out of place in graded company when fourth in the Challow at Newbury (20.5f, soft) last month and he remains with potential. Major player. Promising 7yo who closed to within 2l of the winner in Grade 1 at Newbury; downgraded. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (18/1 +45%) Choccabloc |
18/1(+45%) | (1) Choccabloc 18/1, Bumper winner last season and highly encouraging start over hurdles when going close in a big-field 2m Ludlow novice in October. Battled well when edging out a subsequent winner upped to 21.2f there (soft) next time and he remains open to improvement. Still, this is a big ask under a penalty. All out to win over 2m5f at Ludlow and James Bowen (aboard that day) has jumped ship. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (4/1 +50%) Antrim Coast |
4/1(+50%) | (2) Antrim Coast 4/1, Confirmed abundant hurdles debut promise when taking a 19-runner Punchestown maiden in October. Just edged out by the progressive Butch (winner again since) upped to 3m here (soft) later that month and this drop back is unlikely to be an issue. Big player with first-time tongue strap enlisted. The form of his close second here over 3m has been franked; won his Irish maiden over 2m4f. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
The hugely exciting GIDLEIGH PARK arrives here on the back of an impressive win at Newbury and he may be able to take this step up in grade in his stride. Johnnywho performed with credit when finishing fourth in the Challow Novices' Hurdle just under a month ago, but that looked a hard race on soft ground and it remains to be seen how much that has taken out of him. With that in mind, Irish raider Antrim Coast is put forward as the main danger.
An intriguing renewal of this Grade 2 contest. Preference is for Irish-raider ANTRIM COAST, who went down all guns blazing in a useful novice event here last time, form which was boosted when the winner followed up in a strong handicap on New Year's Day. The unbeaten Gidleigh Park is an exciting prospect and is greatly respected, albeit he's likely to be plenty short enough in the betting, all things considered. Johnnywho is a promising type and merits respect, too.
All have Festival entries. This revolves around whether GIDLEIGH PARK is as good as he's looked so far. He could be Grade 1 material.

4/1(-14%) | (3) Artisan Dancer 4/1, Three wins from 15 runs last year. 13/2, creditable second of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (14f) 8 days ago, running on. Shortlist material. Placed in last eight starts; usually seen over further but this stiff 1m4f should be fine. |

6th (1) (12/1 -71%) Sagauteur |
12/1(-71%) | (1) Sagauteur 12/1, C&D winner. Latest win here in December. 11/1, respectable fifth of 10 in handicap at Southwell (12.1f) 18 days ago, very slowly away. Not discounted. C&D winner last month but still to prove his stamina in a truly run race over this trip. |

7th (6) (125/1 -279%) Best Guess |
125/1(-279%) | (6) Best Guess 125/1, Lightly-raced maiden on Flat. Pulled up in juvenile hurdle at Musselburgh (15.6f, soft, 80/1) 58 days ago. Makes tapeta debut. Fair on the Flat, poor on last Flat run. Hint of ability on his third Flat start, but modest otherwise; has undergone wind surgery. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
KING VIKTOR clearly benefits from an artificial surface, having won three of his five starts on the all-weather, and Brian Ellison's gelding is taken to handle a 5lb penalty along with a drop back in trip following his win at Southwell on Tuesday. Carlton is 2lb higher than his recent C&D success and he is likely to give it his best shot from the front, while It's A Love Thing and Artisan Dancer complete the shortlist.
KING VIKTOR looks better than ever and had a bit in hand when scoring at Southwell last time, so he's marginally preferred to It's A Love Thing, who will benefit from a return to the level. Artisan Dancer is also of interest in what looks a strong race for the grade.
King Viktor and ARTISAN DANCER have been running well over further lately, but the latter may be less inconvenienced by this trip.

40/1(+0%) | (12) Loch Garman Aris 40/1, Dual scorer over fences at Bangor in May 2021 but not so good nowadays and well held in a pair of handicap hurdles this winter. It's easy to look elsewhere. Teenager who has struggled in both runs this winter and remains without a win since 2021. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
C&D winner Libor Lad continues to run well and is likely to prove popular amongst punters, but a chance can be taken on ISMAEL. Kevin Frost's gelding shaped with promise on his handicap debut at Market Rasen last month, where he finished a creditable fourth. A point winner on slow ground, conditions will be in his favour and any progress would give him a chance. Call Me Arthur improved for a step up in trip last time out and he looks a big player off 3lb higher, while Jukebox D'eddy should not be underestimated either.
CALL ME ARTHUR took his form up a notch when runner-up at Exeter last time and is weighted to gain a breakthrough victory returning from a break here. Ismael is feared most now he reverts to a left-handed track, while C&D winner Libor Lad and the consistent Ginderella also need factoring into this open handicap.
Preference is for the progressive LIBOR LAD, who has form figures of 2212 this season and whose win came on soft ground over C&D.

50/1(-150%) | (4) D Journey Man 50/1, Diamond Boy gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful 3¼m hurdle winner Fontsanta and bumper winner Dusky Days, stays 21f. Diamond Boy gelding; half-brother to 2 winners; yard's newcomers generally best watched. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
LIEBER NICC caught the eye on his first completed start when keeping on well in the closing stages behind No Flies On Him in a 28-runner maiden hurdle at the Leopardstown Christmas meeting. The Henry de Bromhead-trained gelding didn't travel well on that occasion but showed a good attitude and should benefit from the experience. Argento Boy is an obvious threat from powerful connections and appeals on pedigree being a half-brother to four winners including Briar Hill who won the Champion Bumper for the same yard. Machismo won a point-to-point at Borris House last month and is a half-brother to three winners including the smart Keeper Hill while Born Braver is another to consider having won twice between the flags in recent months.
ARGENTO BOY has an excellent pedigree and represents top connections, so he takes marginal preference over Machismo, who was impressive when winning his only start in points. Born Braver, another point recruit, is also worthy of respect.
LIEBER NICC was an eyecatcher at Leopardstown last month when sticking to his task and a switch to bumpers may help him

Underwhelming display stepped up to 10f since but no surprise to see a better showing returned to 1m with cheekpieces now enlisted. 0-8, but placed in both starts over C&D and looks to be on a fair mark; cheekpieces on. |

7th (1) (11/2 +21%) Mayjority |
11/2(+21%) | (1) Mayjority 11/2, Maiden who matched form shown on debut for this yard when fourth of 8 in handicap over C&D 23 days ago. Mark has eased further and not out of things in an ordinary affair. Fair runs the last twice but 0-7; may need further now. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
MINTNTHAT returned to winning ways over C&D in a classified event when just getting the better of Great Colaci, who is now a non-runner in this contest, by a head and the return to handicap company is unlikely to stop him from backing up that performance. The fourth from that contest, Wheres The Crumpet, is another likely to enter calculations, while others for the shortlist include Masham Moor and Martin's Brig.
TOP GUN TINA needs to shrug off a lesser effort over further here 10 days ago, yet she's less exposed than most, and with her previous C&D third looking solid in the context of this, she's worth another chance. Mintnthat, a recent C&D winner, and Martin's Brig can also figure.
Preference is for MARTIN'S BRIG who would have a solid chance if repeating his second of 12 in a 0-62 contest over C&D in November.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
BORGI secured a victory by a length over an extended mile at Wolverhampton earlier in the month and he was only put up 3lb for that triumph. The five-year-old remains in the same grade here and could be the one to beat. Alazwar has finished in the first two on each of his last three starts and could go well off a 1lb higher mark than his latest second at Wolverhampton, while Desert Doctor can be in the mix for the minor honours after his runner-up effort at Lingfield.
Preference is for ALAZWAR, who arrives in fine form and didn't get the best of runs when second at Wolverhampton last time. Borgi and Desert Doctor look the likeliest dangers.
Borgi is respected after a good Wolverhampton win but ALAZWAR did well against an improver last time and has solid claims.

8/1(-220%) | (6) Gustav Graves 8/1, 9/2, won 9-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 12 days ago, running on. Should go well again. Won 2 of his last 3, both at Wolverhampton in Class 6 company; this looks tougher. |

10/3(+45%) | (8) Urban Dandy 10/3, C&D winner. 4/1, sixth of 7 in handicap at this C&D 2 days ago. In good order prior to latest effort, so warrants respect. C&D winner; two good runs to start 2024 campaign but lacklustre effort here on Thursday. |

5th (2) (8/1 -14%) Zuffolo |
8/1(-14%) | (2) Zuffolo 8/1, C&D winner. Latest win here in November. 10/1, respectable fifth of 11 in handicap at this C&D 19 days ago. Can't be ruled out. C&D win in November came off 1lb lower; less good twice since; others safer. |

8th (7) (9/1 -100%) Birkenhead |
9/1(-100%) | (7) Birkenhead 9/1, C&D winner. 1¾ lengths sixth of 9 to Gustav Graves in handicap at Wolverhampton (5.1f, 18/1) 12 days ago, left poorly placed. One to consider. On dangerous mark & latest start suggested he was on the way back; C&D winner; e-w shout. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
GUSTAV GRAVES arrives having won two of his last three outings at Wolverhampton and the six-year-old makes plenty of appeal in a bid to continue his excellent run of form. Blazing Hot had a valid excuse when running flat at Southwell last time, as it followed a victory at the same venue just two days prior, and it would be no surprise if he bounced back on this occasion. Dark Kestrel's recent C&D third would give him every chance of being in the mix.
BIRKENHEAD is becoming well treated and shaped nicely from an unpromising position when sixth to Gustav Graves at Wolverhampton, so he's fancied to turn the tables with that rival and get back to winning ways. Blazing Hot wasn't seen to best effect last time and should make a much bigger impact on this occasion.
Dark Kestrel ran well over C&D last week but BLAZING HOT is fancied to quickly bounce back from a subdued run 16 days ago.

Certainly worth a market check. Less appealing on paper than the two Godolphin newcomers but still worth a market check. |

10/1(-11%) | (8) Suspicion 10/1, 65,000 gns yearling, Make Believe colt. Dam unraced half-sister to smart winner up to 7f Ninjago out of useful French winner up to 1¼m Fidelio's Miracle. 250/1(-25%) | (2) Reign Of Thunder 250/1, 200/1, last of 5 in minor event at Southwell (11.1f) 9 days ago, flattered by proximity. Down in trip. Finished last at 200-1 on his first two starts, both over 1m3f this month. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
SILENT AGE is a beautifully-bred son of Dubawi and his pedigree suggests that he should relish this trip to start his career. He represents the in-form Charlie Appleby yard and could make an impression on his debut. His stablemate Musical Dancer may prove to be the main threat, as he is a full-brother to the Group 3 winner Laugh Aloud, and it would be no surprise to see him thereabouts, especially if the market speaks in his favour. Any money for the 65,000gns purchase Suspicion would also be of interest.
This is highly likely to go to a newcomer and Godolphin pair SILENT AGE and Musical Dancer could be the ones worth focusing on. Preference is for the former, who has already been gelded but gets the vote of confidence from William Buick, while debutants Suspicion and Calumet shouldn't be underestimated, either.
Attention is quickly drawn to the two well-bred Godolphin newcomers, Musical Dancer and SILENT AGE.

Makes handicap debut. Related to useful sort for the yard but looks of no account at this stage. Makes handicap/AW debut after 163 days off; not bred to stay this far; visor on. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
MERESIDE MADNESS ran with plenty of credit in defeat when third over 1m on his latest outing at Southwell and, easing in grade here, he can make a bold bid to go two places better. Noble Consort may find life a little easier pitched into a handicap for the first time and Julie Camacho's charge can make his presence felt in this company. The largely consistent Likeashadow finished second on his latest outing over 1m here last week and he could go well again having been nudged up just 1lb.
LIKEASHADOW won twice here in the autumn and shaped best over 1m here earlier in the month, so makes plenty of appeal attempting to notch a third course success. Mereside Madness and Hand Jive both arrive after sound placed efforts and can pose the biggest threats.
The choice is MERESIDE MADNESS who has run well since handicapping, including when third in a much better race at Southwell last time.

150/1(-127%) | (6) Paddy Powerful 150/1, 1,000 gns foal, 1,000 gns yearling, Free Eagle gelding. Half-brother to useful 9f winner Withering. Dam unraced half-sister to 5f winner Captain Dunne and 7f-1m winner Raadobarg (both smart). Market can guide. Likely outsider on debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
VENETIAN STYLE changed hands for 1,800,000gns as a foal and the well-bred son of Dubawi is related to plenty of winners, including the Group 2 winner I Can Fly. Any market confidence behind him over his stablemate Notable Speech would add even more appeal in this contest. As for the latter, he could also easily get into contention on his first outing. Parkland brings the best form to the table after his third at Chelmsford on his debut.
Charlie Appleby has took the past three runnings of this and looks to hold a very strong hand once more with 1,800,000 guineas foal VENETIAN STYLE fancied to go in at the first time of asking. Stablemate Notable Speech also offers plenty of potential and is next on the list ahead of once-raced duo Parkland and Bursinel.
This may develop into a fight between Charlie Appleby's newcomers Venetian Style and NOTABLE SPEECH, with Buick on the latter.

Cargin Bhui got off the mark over 5f at Wolverhampton earlier this month and, provided the step back up to 6f doesn't hinder his chances, he should be able to make his presence felt. That said, preference is for NOVARRO, who made a pleasing start to his career when third over 6f at Southwell. He ran on strongly when the penny dropped and he looks the one to side with. Of the newcomers, the 95,000gns purchase Wedding Favour appeals the most, particularly if the market speaks in her favour.
SWING THE RING was held back by inexperience first time up but he may well have learned enough to open his account at the second attempt. He's preferred to recent Southwell winner Cargin Bhui, while Wedding Favour looks the pick of the newcomers.
Cargin Bhui won well at Wolverhampton but conceding weight to likely improver QUIET RESOLVE may prove beyond him.

Love De Vega may have won comfortably last time out at Chelmsford, but he still has almost two lengths to make up with HIERONYMUS from their meeting over C&D earlier in the month, and George Baker's charge is taken to uphold that form on his way to another victory. Fourth in that contest was Revolutionise, who has been running with plenty of credit lately but has been winless since November 2022.
HIERONYMUS admittedly had the run of things when getting the better of the re-opposing Love de Vega over C&D earlier this month, but there's a real chance that he will again be allowed a soft lead. If that proves to be the case, the 8-y-o will prove a tough nut to crack. Love de Vega has since hit the target at Chelmsford and is likely to be on the premises once again, while Revolutionise and Soar Above can do battle for minor honours.
George Baker's HIERONYMUS can see off Love De Vega over C&D for the second time this month.

3rd (3) (18/1 -80%) Another Angel |
18/1(-80%) | (3) Another Angel 18/1, Modest gelding. 8-time course winner. Three wins from 20 runs last year. Fourth of 9 in handicap (28/1) at this course (5f) 11 days ago. More promise in better race here 11 days ago; best at 5f and stiff 6f may just stretch him. |

4th (7) (3/1 +57%) Little Red Dancer |
3/1(+57%) | (7) Little Red Dancer 3/1, Modest filly. One win from 23 Flat runs. 11/2, fifth of 10 in handicap at this course (7.1f) 5 days ago, faring best of those ridden prominently. Blinkers on 1st time. Finished weakly over 7f here on Monday; usual cheekpieces now replaced by blinkers. |

7th (4) (25/1 -79%) Billy Mcgarry |
25/1(-79%) | (4) Billy Mcgarry 25/1, Modest gelding. 8/1, fifth of 8 in minor event at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 12 days ago. Has work to do. Hasn't been seeing his races out over further for new yard; drop to 6f not enough to tempt. |

8th (6) (16/1 -60%) Hard Nut |
16/1(-60%) | (6) Hard Nut 16/1, Modest gelding. Fifteen runs since last win in 2019. 11/2, ninth of 12 in minor event at this course (5f) 10 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Others more persuasive. Finished behind Sir Benedict here ten days ago (5f); return to 6f not enough to tempt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (11/2 -57%) Sir Benedict |
11/2(-57%) | (1) Sir Benedict 11/2, Modest gelding. Nineteen runs since last win in 2022. 4/1, creditable second of 12 in minor event at this course (5f) 10 days ago. Shortlist material. Near miss dropped to this grade here ten days ago; obvious chance if in the same form. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Tathmeen (fourth) finished a length and a half behind winner BENEFICIARY when the pair met over C&D last week and, despite the selection being 2lb worse off with that rival this time, the latter can confirm that form en route to victory once again. Sir Benedict ran admirably when second over 5f here on his latest outing and he appeals most out of the remainder.
BENEFICIARY confirmed himself back in form when winning a similar contest over C&D 10 days ago and should go well again. Sir Benedict and Little Red Dancer head the dangers.
Sir Benedict is a big player back at 6f but this could be run to suit TATHMEEN and the veteran can gain his eighth course win.

2nd (8) (4/1 -33%) Cotai Vision |
4/1(-33%) | (8) Cotai Vision 4/1, Scored over 6f at Wolverhampton in September and has continued in excellent form, clear second of 5 in handicap at Southwell (5f) 21 days ago. Big shout off an unchanged mark. Runner-up in 5f handicaps on AW on last 3 starts; more needed taking on older rivals. |

3rd (1) (5/2 +17%) Premiere Beauty |
5/2(+17%) | (1) Premiere Beauty 5/2, Career best when winning 11-runner handicap at this C&D (13/2) 17 days ago. Well on top at the finish there so she's not taken lightly despite a 7 lb rise. Change of tactics saw her run out an easy winner here 17 days ago; up 7lb but respected. |

4th (5) (9/4 +25%) Habooba |
9/4(+25%) | (5) Habooba 9/4, Winner at Lingfield in December. Creditable second of 8 in handicap at Lingfield (6f, AW, 4/1) 13 days ago. Not taken lightly off the same mark. Four good 6f runs since October; near miss off this mark two weeks ago; in the mix again. |

5th (2) (7/2 +13%) First Of May |
7/2(+13%) | (2) First Of May 7/2, Two wins from 6 runs last year. 15/8, last of 4 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 54 days ago, finding little. Can give a good account if shrugging off latest effort. 3-5 on AW (all runs on Tapeta); disappointed last month but capable of bouncing back. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A comfortable winner over C&D last time out, PREMIERE BEAUTY could have more to come off a 7lb higher mark and she can strike again, despite having to overcome the widest stall. Not outside the first two on each of her last four starts, Habooba is another contender on the step up in trip, along with the consistent Cotai Vision.
COTAI VISION is knocking at the door and able to race off the same mark as when a clear Southwell second last time so can gain a deserved victory. Habooba is another weighted to go well and rates next best, although a solid case can also be made for in-form pair Nammos and Premiere Beauty in a cracking handicap.
Premiere Beauty and Habooba are greatly respected but the unexposed NAMMOS can build on her promising second at Southwell.

That represented a clear step back in the right direction and he's a player up just 2 lb. Kept on well down the outside to win a 6f h'cap at Lingfield 13 days ago; 2lb rise fair. |

2nd (1) (13/8 -47%) The Caltonian |
13/8(-47%) | (1) The Caltonian 13/8, Four-time course winner. Three wins from 16 runs last year. 10/11, career best when winning 9-runner handicap at this C&D 11 days ago by 2 lengths from Zu Run, easily. Very much the one to beat. 5-8 since blinkers went on; bolted up over C&D 11 days ago; still has more to offer. |

10/3(+49%) | (4) Rock Opera 10/3, 9/4, career best when winning 8-runner handicap at Southwell (6.1f) 4 days ago, suited by way race developed. This is more demanding under a penalty. Two 6f handicap wins this winter, getting up late at Southwell on Tuesday; this is tougher. |

4th (3) (8/1 +11%) Zarzyni |
8/1(+11%) | (3) Zarzyni 8/1, Fifteen runs since last win in 2022. Blinkered for 1st time, last of 10 in handicap at Lingfield (5f, AW, 16/1) 7 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Others more persuasive. Talented but not easy to win with; below par last week but better is expected today. |

5th (6) (17/2 +15%) Bellagio Man |
17/2(+15%) | (6) Bellagio Man 17/2, C&D winner. Latest win here in September. 20/1, respectable 3¼ lengths fourth of 9 to The Caltonian in handicap at this C&D 11 days ago, slowly away. Needs to raise his game. Conditions to suit but behind The Caltonian here 11 days ago; others are stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (17/2 +6%) Zu Run |
17/2(+6%) | (5) Zu Run 17/2, Visored for 1st time, creditable 2 lengths second of 9 to The Caltonian in handicap (14/1) at this C&D 11 days ago, no match for winner. It would be something of a surprise were he to turn the tables on that rival. No match for The Caltonian but still ran well over C&D last week; should run well again. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The Caltonian is respected in his bid for a sixth win since the beginning of October. However, he has gone up 32lb in the handicap during the same time period and, with all bar one of those successes registered in a lower grade, the latest 7lb increase for a C&D success 11 days ago leaves him vulnerable. ZARZYNI is competitively-weighted and can potentially spoil the party for the top-weight with cheekpieces back in place. The recent Southwell winner Rock Opera is also feared under a penalty.
It's hard to look beyond THE CALTONIAN, who laughed at Zu Run over C&D recently and a 7 lb rise will not be enough to prevent him from completing the four-timer, provided he is in a similar mood. Prince of Zenda got back on track at Lingfield recently and he could be the one for the forecast, ahead of Zu Run.
He's soared up the handicap this winter but THE CALTONIAN (nap) was hugely impressive here 11 days ago and can go in again.

15/8(+83%) | (2) Max Vega 15/8, Smart performer who was below form when sixth of 8 in listed race at this C&D 45 days ago. Bounce back required. This triple Group 3 winner is respected on a rare outing away from Listed/pattern level. |

11/2(+35%) | (5) West End Charmer 11/2, 28/1, shaped better than the bare result on first run since leaving Charlie & Mark Johnston when respectable seventh of 13 in handicap at Newcastle (10.2f) 26 days ago, needing stiffer test. Makes polytrack debut. Shaped as if retaining ability at Newcastle on recent return from another absence. |

4th (1) (17/2 +0%) Cemhaan |
17/2(+0%) | (1) Cemhaan 17/2, C&D winner who was below his best in the Ebor Handicap at York when last seen in August. This is less competitive and he's capable fresh so not ruled out. Made all over C&D last May and third at Royal Ascot in June; held in Ebor but this easier. |

5th (7) (12/1 -85%) Youthful King |
12/1(-85%) | (7) Youthful King 12/1, Useful handicapper who ran respectably when 4¾ lengths sixth of 8 in listed race at Lingfield (10f, AW, 40/1) 27 days ago, well positioned. Two Windsor wins from front last summer; ran as well could be expected in AW Listed latest. |

33/1(-267%) | (4) Cumulonimbus 33/1, Progressed with cheekpieces (left off here) applied last year, winning 3 of his 5 starts. First run for yard after leaving Charlie Fellowes for 150,000 gns. Tongue strap on for 1st time. 5-12 on turf but 0-2 on AW; might be best watched for new yard after break; tongue-tie on. |

9/1(-100%) | (6) Oneforthegutter 9/1, Showed an excellent attitude to resume winning ways in 10-runner handicap at Southwell (12.1f, 7/1) 29 days ago, well positioned. Makes polytrack debut and can make presence felt again. Battled back having been headed to win at Southwell latest; should remain competitive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (150/1 -50%) Adrian |
150/1(-50%) | (8) Adrian 150/1, Smart performer at best in Germany but hasn't beaten a rival for current yard. Blinkered for 1st time. Listed/Group winner in Germany but three heavy defeats since coming to Britain; blinkered. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
HAKU has returned to form in recent months and he is unlucky not to be arriving on a hat-trick, having been narrowly denied at Southwell last time out. The five-year-old has a good record at this venue and he should have too much for the capable Teumessias Fox, as well as Oneforthegutter, who bounced back with a determined success at Southwell last month.
TEUMESSIAS FOX shaped well in a good race at Newcastle on New Year's Day and, with a strong pace forecast, he makes plenty of appeal from the same mark. Oneforthegutter showed a good attitude to resume winning ways at Southwell recently and should go well again from only a 3 lb higher mark, with Haku also of interest despite being 2 lb out of the handicap.
The suggestion in a trappy handicap is TEUMESSIAS FOX, who has run two sound races at Newcastle this winter and is a former C&D winner.

11/4(+0%) | (6) Lupset Flossy Pop 11/4, First outing for new yard when creditable second of 11 in minor event over C&D (5/1) 17 days ago, no match for winner. One of likelier contenders. Second in very similar C&D race on recent stable debut; shortlisted. |

3rd (8) (16/1 -14%) Sumac |
16/1(-14%) | (8) Sumac 16/1, Modest gelding. Cheekpieces on for 1st time, 3½ lengths fourth of 7 to Heerathetrack in minor event at Chelmsford City (7f, 12/1) 14 days ago. Work to do. Didn't run badly behind Heerathetrack a fortnight ago but still makes only limited appeal. |

4th (1) (18/1 -29%) Break The Spell |
18/1(-29%) | (1) Break The Spell 18/1, Modest filly. Visored for 1st time, last of 10 in handicap (50/1) at Lingfield (6f, AW) 27 days ago. Others more persuasive. Disappointing maiden who ended last year in poor form; first run in this grade. |

4/1(+50%) | (5) Indie Skies 4/1, Modest gelding. 10/1, last of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 20 days ago. Claims on best form. Below form the last twice but has strong claims if judged on C&D handicap run in December. |

6th (7) (5/1 +44%) Profitar Rules |
5/1(+44%) | (7) Profitar Rules 5/1, Modest gelding. First run since leaving Tom Dascombe when respectable fourth of 11 in minor event at this C&D (9/1) 17 days ago. Claims if building on that. Cheekpieces back on. Made quite encouraging stable debut here this month and might come on for the run. |

7th (3) (13/2 +84%) Capallcliste |
13/2(+84%) | (3) Capallcliste 13/2, Fifth of 11 in minor event (50/1) at this C&D 17 days ago. Cheekpieces on for 1st time. Still looking for first success. Unplaced all seven starts, the latest over C&D in this grade; cheekpieces tried today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (50/1 +0%) Canimar |
50/1(+0%) | (2) Canimar 50/1, C&D winner. One win from 33 Flat runs. Last of 9 in minor event at this C&D (66/1) 17 days ago. Readily opposed. Back from long absence with two disappointing runs this winter, the latter over C&D. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
HEERATHETRACK landed a similar event at Chelmsford a fortnight ago and Mark Usher's charge ought to hold every chancing of following up on these terms. Time Patrol was unable to reel in the winner at this venue last time but Tony Carroll's charge can give another good account of himself, along with Indie Skies, who should fare better eased in class.
This can go to TIME PATROL, who got back to his best here earlier this month and looks to have been found a nice opportunity to resume winning ways. Lupset Flossy Pop and Heerathetrack should also go well.
Nine-race maiden INDIE SKIES will be hard to beat at this level if able to replicate the form of last month's C&D handicap second.

10th (3) (11/1 -10%) Longuerue |
11/1(-10%) | (3) Longuerue 11/1, 22/1, creditable third of 8 in handicap at Chelmsford City (16f) 14 days ago, nearest finish. She has run OK in two runs since upped to 2m without suggesting a win was imminent. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
This looks like a good opportunity for TAMARIS to regain the winning thread, having been narrowly denied at Lingfield last month. Joe Tizzard's gelding was raised 1lb for that effort, but he is effectively 1lb lower here with Joe Bradnam able to claim 7lb, and this does not appear to be the deepest of contests. The booking of Rossa Ryan aboard Baileys Warrior catches the eye and she is worth a second look, along with Longuerue, who hit the frame at Chelmsford a fortnight ago.
TAMARIS was only just edged out over C&D under this rider last month and has obvious claims off a similar mark. Chacha Dancer made a positive start for this yard when winning at Wolverhampton when last seen in June so must be respected, while Longuerue took a step back in the right direction when third at Chelmsford 2 weeks ago.
She has an absence to overcome but CHACHA DANCER (nap) is the most interesting runner in the field and by some way.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
