LTO Selection:hiden content, hiden content, hiden content, hiden content

CANAL END ran encouragingly over a shorter distance over Christmas and looks nicely treated. Rated 125 over hurdles, he was well held on his initial chase runs and while visibility was reduced due to fog at Leopardstown, he was sighted doing nice work in the latter stages, with today's distance sure to bring about improvement. Answer To Kayf has top weight but nonetheless also has a few pounds in hand, under his 5lb claimer. He finished second at last May's Punchestown festival and having performed satisfactorily in hot beginners chases recently, drops to handicaps and is rated 8lb lower than over hurdles. Individualiste is 10lb higher than when winning at Navan but should again compete.

INDIVIDUALISTE had no problem with the drop back to this trip when adding to November's 25f Thurles success at Navan last month and, while a 10 lb rise in the weights will ask a question of him, Gavin Cromwell's charge may well have more to offer. He is taken to complete the hat-trick, perhaps at the chief expense of the consistent El Champo. A case can also be made for Kiltealy Park, while the likes of American Money, Buachaillbocht and Miss Pronunciation are all open to improvement.

Top-weight ANSWER TO KAYF ran okay in a couple of good beginners chases and off a mark of 130 is hard to ignore. He could take beating

CHARLUS was a smart Flat performer for Jean-Claude Rouget in France and debuts for top connections having been bought for E315,000 last July. A debut winner in December 2023, his three runs last year were fine efforts and finished second on, heavy ground, at Listed level in Bordeaux last May. He has a noteworthy Triumph Hurdle entry and will know his job on jumps debut. Holy See, who finished fourth at Listed-level on the Flat, showed ability on his hurdles debut at Limerick over Christmas but is vulnerable to smart types. Young Churchill, by the same sire as the selection, also ran well on his hurdling debut last month and has obvious place claims.

CHARLUS, a winner of three of his four starts on the Flat in France, is an exciting recruit to this sphere for the Willie Mullins yard and will surely prove very hard to beat, provided he takes to hurdles at the first attempt. Young Churchill shaped well on his hurdles debut and he gets the nod for forecast purposes ahead of Holy See and San Hilario.

They might all be taking on a good horse in expensive French purchase CHARLUS and he gets the vote

1/10(+40%)
(1) Electric Mason 1/10, Point recruit who opened his account in bumpers at Kempton in February. Off the mark over hurdles at the second attempt at Fontwell and better form since, fifth in the Challow at Newbury last time. This looks a simple task.
Latest race a Grade 1 and his form is far and away the best in this minuscule line-up.

(2) Cauvicourt 40/1, Offered more than on debut when ninth of 12 in bumper at Worcester (16f, heavy) 102 days ago but will likely need more time. Goes hurdling now.
Looks bred more for this trip but he was soundly beaten on soft ground in both his bumpers.

Western Harmony

6
6/1(-20%)
(3) Western Harmony 6/1, Cost £115,000 after winning his second of 2 starts in Irish points in the spring. Promise both starts in bumpers and on completed start over hurdles when third at Huntingdon. Has plenty to find with Electric Mason, though.
Looks one of his top yard's lesser lights; unraced on soft.
LTO Selection:hiden content, hiden content, hiden content,

This should be a penalty kick for the 132-rated ELECTRIC MASON, who was far from disgraced when finishing fifth behind The New Lion in the Challow at Newbury last month. Chris Gordon's six-year-old must give 7lb away to his two rivals but should he run to form, he will be tough to beat. Western Harmony has struggled in two starts over timber but is most likely booked for second place ahead of hurdling-debutant Cauvicourt.

ELECTRIC MASON was beaten less than 10 lengths in Grade 1 company last time and this looks a straightforward opportunity to double his tally over hurdles back down in grade. Western Harmony would probably be the one to capitalise if the selection didn't fire.

This will surely go to ELECTRIC MASON who disputed the lead over the final flight last time in the Grade 1 Challow at Newbury.

(3) Laafi 15/2, Useful winner at 10f on the Flat. First run since leaving William Haggas when winning 18-runner novice hurdle at Limerick (16f, soft) on NH debut 31 days ago. Open to improvement.
Supreme entry looks a nice prospect and gets 7lb from Anzadam but unlikely to beat him..
LTO Selection:hiden content, hiden content, hiden content,

ANZADAM retains next weekend's Irish Champion Hurdle entry but connections appear to be keeping a lid on the keen-goer for the time being. He raced twice over hurdles in France in 2023, shedding his maiden tag at Compiegne, and returned following 411 days off to win a Grade 3 hurdle in November. He wears a hood and needs to learn to settle but is smart. Veteran Beacon Edge ran well in December's Hatton's Grace and drops from Grade 1 company but hasn't run at this distance since January 2021 and will be outpaced by the selection. Laafi, once rated 98 on the Flat, scored on jumps debut but that recent form isn't outstanding and he steps up markedly in grade.

It's very difficult to look beyond ANZADAM, who was 2-2 for previous connections in France and duly maintained his unbeaten record when impressively dispatching with market leader Kala Conti in a Grade 3 at Fairyhouse on debut for Willie Mullins. The sky could be the limit for this hugely promising 5-y-o. Laafi made the perfect start to his hurdles career at Limerick and he is taken to edge our Beacon Edge in the race for second-place prizemoney.

This should be all about Fairyhouse winner ANZADAM who can underline his growing Champion Hurdle prospects

LTO Selection:hiden content, hiden content, hiden content, hiden content

Not the deepest of contests and a chance can be taken on HOT ROD LINCOLN, who showed glimmers of a return to form on his reappearance/stable debut at Lingfield last month. The former C&D winner is on a competitive mark should he build on that latest performance, and this is now his second start following wind surgery. Shuil Ceoil failed to justify favouritism over fences at Huntingdon recently but he's interesting back hurdling, along with Summer In Milan, who might benefit from a step up in trip.

This looks a winnable race and SHUIL CEOIL shouldn't need to improve to take this now racing off a 7 lb lower mark than when last seen finishing fourth over hurdles. Maximum Effort and Summer In Milan both need to leave disappointing efforts behind, though the latter is relatively lightly-raced and could prove the main danger to the selection.

This race could be very weak and the return to hurdling may well take SHUIL CEOIL (nap) to the fore. Westtara is second on the list.

LTO Selection:hiden content, hiden content, hiden content, hiden content

Three from four in Grade 1 novice hurdles last year, the talented DANCING CITY picked up from where he left off when making a successful chasing debut at Punchestown last month. Willie Mullins' gelding is sure to have learnt plenty for that initial experience and, given that this step up in trip promises to suit, he can go in again and cement his place as a contender for the Brown Advisory. Recent Grade 2 winner Bioluminescence is the obvious threat, but she will have no easy task conceding weight, albeit only 1lb. Dee Capo can chase the pair home.

DANCING CITY was one of last season's leading novice hurdlers and looks set to take high rank in this sphere, too, judged on his chase debut success at Punchestown where, save for a blip at the third-last, he delivered an assured round of jumping. He shades preference ahead of another highly promising recruit in Bioluminescence, while Dee Capo is also entitled to respect.

This should go to DANCING CITY, a three-time Grade 1 winning novice hurdler who should come on plenty for his win at Punchestown

BOYS OF WEXFORD won from 5lb lower over C&D in December before finishing third at Hereford, despite jumping right throughout. Henry Oliver's gelding may have more to offer and while others have something to prove, he can regain the winning thread. Leading Swoop has been knocking at the door recently and looks to be the main threat. Proper Twelve is another to consider.

BOYS OF WEXFORD had a couple of subsequent winners behind when winning over this C&D in November before a decent third at Hereford and he's more reliable than most at this level. Proper Twelve hasn't been with this yard long and is worth another chance to build on his Huntingdon second having got no further than the first at Taunton last week, with Leading Swoop completing the shortlist.

Seemingly boosted by blinkers two runs ago, PROPER TWELVE gets the nod in the hope that a visor also has a positive effect on him.

LTO Selection:hiden content, hiden content, hiden content, hiden content

Former top bumper performer A DREAM TO SHARE showed promise on jumps debut in November and might now gain a belated hurdle success. Initially unbeaten in five bumpers in 2022/23, injury interrupted last year's campaign but he shaped nicely on hurdling debut in November, with that form appearing quite strong in the context of today's winnable maiden. Returning from another break isn't ideal but he should progress from November. Krak showed promise at Leopardstown over Christmas, finishing nicely ahead of Kalix Delabarriere (which made mistakes), and should improve. Ballybow returned lame when finishing behind the selection in November and while he subsequently ran well over Christmas, should struggle to win.

KRAK looks the way to go on the back of a highly encouraging debut third in what looked a decent Leopardstown during the Christmas period. He may have most to fear from smart bumper performer A Dream To Share, who should come on for this first spin over hurdles at Fairyhouse in November. Ballybow left his hurdling bow behind when runner-up at Down Royal and is also shortlisted, along with the Willie Mullins-trained Kalix Delabarriere.

There are possible doubts about former bumper star A DREAM TO SHARE but he may prove equal to this task on his second hurdles attempt

The Harry Fry stable has hit form of late, and this appeals as ideal opportunity for KAP OUEST to go in again following a taking success at Exeter last month. His form before that stands up well and he may have too much for the hat-trick-seeking Epic West, as well as Glynn Brae, who was a respectable second at Haydock last time out.

GLYNN BRAE bounced back to form under a positive ride last time and this looks a good opportunity to regain the winning thread. Kap Quest is entitled to build on his recent success at Exeter while Epic West has to be respected holding an unbeaten record under Rules.

Glynn Brae and Kap Ouest have form claims but EPIC WEST has shown plenty of promise in his two hurdling wins.

(15) Ask The Bookie 25/1, 20/1, respectable third of 8 in novice hurdle at Limerick (19f, soft) 28 days ago. Must improve.
Not a bad run in a Limerick novice race last time, overall profile is unconvincing.
LTO Selection:hiden content, hiden content, hiden content, hiden content

MUST GO NOW gained a belated first win in an easy manner on New Year's Day and can follow up from 10lb higher. Lightly-raced and inconsistent prior to his Fairyhouse win, that form is working out well with the third-placed horse scoring subsequently and the selection should now progress. Cave Court is ground-versatile and is suited by this distance but is now 4lb higher that when finishing second at Leopardstown over Christmas. One Big Boum is 8lb higher than when winning at Cork last month but is progressive while Interchangeable narrowly won an unplaced maiden last month and steps up in grade. Hartur d'Arc has a higher chase rating but today's race, over an inadequate distance, will help his confidence.

Several to consider with CAVE COURT topping the shortlist on the back of an improved effort in a big-field handicap at Leopardstown where he put in good late work to finish second. The Nagger Reidy will be a serious threat if able to get his act together jumping-wise, while last-time-out winners Must Go Now and Interchangeable also enter calculations.

Oran McGill takes a valuable 7lb off CAVE COURT (nap). He is preferred to Must Go Now, up 10lb for an emphati fairyhouse win

Narrowly denied over 3m at Uttoxeter last time out, GROVE ROAD looks more than capable of gaining compensation on the rise in distance, with a 5lb rise in the ratings looking manageable. A determined winner over slightly further at Fakenham last month, Samourai One can follow him home. Captain Claude has an excellent record around here but hasn't won since December 2023.

GROVE ROAD wasted no time getting back on track reverted to fences when just edged out at Uttoxeter and shades the vote over Samourai One, who showed plenty of stamina when scoring at Fakenham 5 weeks ago. Captain Claude looks best of the others.

Low-mileage 8yo RECORD HIGH got his career back on track with a pretty good effort over a slightly shorter trip here on Boxing Day.

ADIEMUS debuts for Willie Mullins, having been bought by the trainer as a store for E50,000 in June 2023. Out of a well-related hurdle-and-chase-winning French mare, he debuts at a notable time of year. American Jukebox conceded 5lb to the Leopardstown winner (Meetmeinstlouis finished fourth, Matter Of Opinion fifth) over Christmas and while today's rider claims 7lb and he seems to stay quite well, is vulnerable to smart types. Champagne Jury was beaten by a subsequent hurdle winner at Boulta in November and has since joined Gavin Cromwell. Jericho Du Fenoir is a half-brother to Champion Hurdle winner Espoir D'Allen and cost E65,000 as a three-year-old and while he makes a belated debut, encouragingly does so in a bumper.

If the market speaks in his favour, ADIEMUS will be of strong interest given his appealing pedigree and the powerful yard that he represents. This drop in trip is of dubious benefit for American Jukebox, who again shaped like a stayer when runner-up over 2½m at Leopardstown. Still, he is respected nonetheless and is feared most ahead of The Night Agent. Newcomer Jericho Du Fenoir needs a market check and Champagne Jury, second on his completed start in maiden points, is worth considering, too.

A speculative vote goes to JERICHO DU FENOIR, a half-brother to Champion Hurdle winner Espoir D'Allen who won his first five races.

A highly-encouraging second on debut when only beaten a neck at Sandown in November, EDWARD SEXTON will likely have plenty more improvement forthcoming and he can go one better on this occasion. Hillwalk can give him the most to think about, having been runner-up at Chepstow first time out, while Karma Police is an intriguing newcomer from the Harry Derham stable.

EDWARD SEXTON's second at Sandown is the piece of form that sets the standard and there's no reason why he can't build on it, so he's preferred to Hillwalk, who also arrives on the back of a promising Rules debut. Point-winner Karma Police is very much one to note starting out under Rules for a shrewd outfit.

Sandown runner-up EDWARD SEXTON probably sets a good form standard and is taken to go one better.

About U.K Horse Racing

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.

There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.

The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.

In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.

Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
