1st (15) (22/1 +12%) Tolstoy |
22/1(+12%) | (15) Tolstoy 22/1, Unreliable individual. 22/1, bit below form tenth of 21 in handicap at this course (6f, good) 20 days ago, merely passing beaten rivals. Shapes as though worth a go at 7f, at least. Not straightforward and often blows the start; inexperienced apprentice on board. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (5/1 +0%) Feel The Need |
5/1(+0%) | (10) Feel The Need 5/1, Had been shaping up well for in-form yard and put it together to win 18-runner handicap at this C&D (good, 12/1) 20 days ago, driven out. Wasn't the best away on that occasion and hasn't always looked straightforward but he's of interest on that display. Surged to the front and scored decisively over C&D last month; still well treated up 4lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (14) (50/1 -100%) Yaaser |
50/1(-100%) | (14) Yaaser 50/1, Ninth of 11 in handicap at Musselburgh (7.1f, good, 28/1) 13 days ago, having hopeless task from position. That effort easy to excuse but he needs to step up plenty. Contender on last summer's best but yet to get going in 2024. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (11/1 -69%) Justcallmepete |
11/1(-69%) | (8) Justcallmepete 11/1, Lower in the weights on turf and much better than the result when eleventh of 16 in handicap at Newbury (6f, good to soft) 56 days ago, finishing with running left having been short of room. Now looks very interesting back over 7f. 0-11 on turf as opposed to 6-22 on AW; handicapped accordingly though and should go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (6/1 +25%) Hectic |
6/1(+25%) | (9) Hectic 6/1, Thirteen runs since last win in 2022, which was gained on debut. Best effort when third of 13 in handicap at Doncaster (7f, good to firm, 8/1) 13 days ago, though he did very much have the run of the race. Enters calculations. Winless since debut but knocking at the door and rider's 5lb claim a bonus here; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (28/1 -40%) Intervention |
28/1(-40%) | (2) Intervention 28/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2023. 50/1, ninth of 13 in handicap at Epsom (6f, good to soft) 13 days ago. Hood back on and this is a weaker handicap than that race but feeling is that he's better on the AW than turf. Drops in class today and this year's AW best brings him right into the reckoning. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (12/1 -85%) Cori Glory |
12/1(-85%) | (6) Cori Glory 12/1, Lightly-raced 4-y-o who was better than ever when winning 6-runner handicap (6/1) at Catterick (7f, soft) 22 days ago. Up 6 lb in a deeper race but limit may not have been reached. Easy win in a small-field fillies' handicap last month (7f, soft); further progress needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (20/1 -82%) The Turpinator |
20/1(-82%) | (4) The Turpinator 20/1, Landed a few bets for latest win at Newcastle in December. Sound-enough efforts after on the AW, respectable fourth of 12 in handicap at Newcastle (6f). Off 131 days and has nothing in hand of current mark back on turf. Has run well over C&D and in good order on AW over the winter; returns from 131 days off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (6/1 +25%) Gincident |
6/1(+25%) | (7) Gincident 6/1, Down in the weights and stuck to his task when 2½ lengths second of 20 to Riot in handicap at this C&D (good, 33/1) 28 days ago, barely adequate test. Not taken lightly from the same mark in the hope they go hard at the head of affairs. Chased home Riot at the Dante meeting but a 6lb weights turnaround may be insufficient. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (15/2 -7%) Riot |
15/2(-7%) | (3) Riot 15/2, Big-field C&D winner last month and excellent 3 lengths fourth of 18 to Feel The Need in handicap (13/2) at this C&D (good) 20 days ago. Can give another good account. A win and a good 4th in big-field C&D handicaps the last twice; should be involved again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (12) (13/2 +46%) The Cookstown Cafu |
13/2(+46%) | (12) The Cookstown Cafu 13/2, Respectable sixth of 11 in handicap (10/1) at Doncaster (8f, good) 14 days ago. Blinkers on first time and should be at full fitness down. Dangerous to rule out given his current mark. Lurks on a dangerous mark; blinkers given a go and he's one to take seriously. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (5) (33/1 -106%) Capital Guarantee |
33/1(-106%) | (5) Capital Guarantee 33/1, Brushed aside when last of 10 in handicap (18/1) at Thirsk (7f, good to firm) 27 days ago. That was his return from 6 months off and he should last longer this time. Won his first three starts for David O'Meara but his form has levelled off since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (16) (25/1 -79%) Snash |
25/1(-79%) | (16) Snash 25/1, Bit below form sixth of 10 in handicap (13/2) at Haydock (6f, firm) 7 days ago. Cheekpieces back on and return to 7f in his favour. On a good mark and tries a new combination of accessories; has the ability to feature. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (1) (18/1 -64%) Gunlock |
18/1(-64%) | (1) Gunlock 18/1, Improved on belated debut form when winning at Newcastle with a bit to spare in April. Could mange only fourth of 6 in novice event at Wetherby (7f, soft, 13/8) 47 days ago and opening mark calls for more. 1m AW winner in April; not quite so good switched to turf latest; handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
15th (13) (40/1 -100%) Bicep |
40/1(-100%) | (13) Bicep 40/1, Good return to action when finding only one too good at Southwell in March. Isn't easy to predict though and was twelfth of 14 in handicap at Newcastle (7.1f) 59 days ago. Others more persuasive back on turf. Second off this mark in March (6f, AW); flopped next time but capable of bouncing back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
16th (11) (20/1 -82%) Judgment Call |
20/1(-82%) | (11) Judgment Call 20/1, Successful twice in handicap company last season and excellent return to action when second of 11 in handicap at Musselburgh (7.1f, good, 33/1) 13 days ago. Had the run of race on that occasion and dominating this field not as easy. Good return to action at Musselburgh 13 days ago but tough task trying to dictate here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
In what looks a wide-open affair, HECTIC can get his supporters off to a flyer. He was last seen finishing third in a warm handicap over 7f at Doncaster earlier this month and, off an unchanged mark, another bold bid from this habitual prominent racer is expected. Cori Glory scored comfortably on her reappearance over 7f at Catterick last month and she can emerge as the main danger upped 6lb. Yaaser and Riot are a couple of others who merit respect.
The really interesting one here is JUSTCALLMEPETE, who lurks on a very dangerous turf mark and got no luck at Newbury last time. The return to 7f will suit so he's awarded the vote in favour of Riot, Gincident and Feel The Need.
Feel The Need and RIOT both won big-field C&D handicaps here last month and the latter can come out on top this time.

Clay Shoveler |
(4) (9/1 +0%)9/1(+0%) | (4) Clay Shoveler 9/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 16/5 and hooded for 1st time, seventh of 8 in seller at Goodwood (5f, good to firm) 5 days ago. Hard to warm to on the back of that display. Windsor second in April gives him claims; beaten fav in a seller on Sunday; now tackles 6f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (7) (14/1 +0%) Inconspicuous |
14/1(+0%) | (7) Inconspicuous 14/1, Once-raced maiden. 80/1, fourth of 10 in maiden at Redcar (6f, good) on debut 25 days ago, nearest finish. May well do better with that run under his belt. Stayed on late when 4th at Redcar last month; open to improvement but it is needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (9/2 -35%) Isla Bella |
9/2(-35%) | (10) Isla Bella 9/2, Twice-raced winner. 10/3 and tongue strap on for 1st time, won 8-runner maiden at Brighton (6f, good to soft) 17 days ago. Strong claims. Strong at the finish in a 6f maiden at Brighton last month; big player despite the penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (6/1 +33%) Mrbluesky |
6/1(+33%) | (8) Mrbluesky 6/1, Once-raced maiden. Fifth of 8 in maiden (7/2) at Redcar (5f, soft) on debut 18 days ago, never nearer. Extra furlong here will help but he needs to take a significant step forward. Put in some good late work on his 5f debut last month; should be capable of much better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (12/1 -71%) Rex Carver |
12/1(-71%) | (9) Rex Carver 12/1, Twice-raced maiden. 4/1, last of 4 in minor event at Carlisle (5.8f, good to soft) 15 days ago. Needs to get back on track but his debut effort was fairly encouraging and he's by no means written off. Promising debut at Redcar but flopped on soft ground latest; still has time to do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (12) (80/1 -300%) Elementary Charge |
80/1(-300%) | (12) Elementary Charge 80/1, Twice-raced maiden. Fifth of 7 in maiden at Carlisle (5f, good to soft, 18/1) 15 days ago. Others preferred. Hasn't landed a blow in two 5f maidens but has some ability and 6f should suit better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (14) (100/1 -525%) Owt For Nowt |
100/1(-525%) | (14) Owt For Nowt 100/1, Twice-raced maiden. Fifth of 12 in maiden (66/1) at Beverley (5f, good) 39 days ago. One of 3 representing the Ollie Pears yard and Inconspicuous could be the pick of them. Unfancied and modest form in two 5f runs this spring; improvement needed for a 6th furlong. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (15) (80/1 -100%) Wondrous Ways |
80/1(-100%) | (15) Wondrous Ways 80/1, Twice-raced maiden. Fifth of 10 in maiden at Redcar (6f, good, 40/1) 25 days ago. Readily passed over. Neither maiden run this spring indicates she's a likely winner; yard run three. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (50/1 -1150%) I Love Dad |
50/1(-1150%) | (6) I Love Dad 50/1, Once-raced maiden. 12/1, third of 8 in seller at Goodwood (5f, good to firm) on debut 5 days ago. Shouldn't be far away if able to build on that. Promising 3rd in a 5f seller on Sunday's debut; should be capable of better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (66/1 -100%) Cugini |
66/1(-100%) | (5) Cugini 66/1, Foaled March 1. £12,000 yearling, Land Force gelding. Dam unraced sister to useful winner up to 9.5f Mellow Yellow out of smart winner up to 1m (2-y-o 7f winner) Yellow Rosebud. Entitled to come on for the run. £12,000 yearling; dam an unraced sister to two winners; likely best watched on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (28/1 -133%) Bungle Reigns |
28/1(-133%) | (3) Bungle Reigns 28/1, Once-raced maiden. 15/2, fourth of 8 in claimer at Beverley (5f, soft) on debut 16 days ago, not clear run. Opposable from a win point of view. Promise amidst inexperience in a Beverley claimer on debut (5f, soft); can do much better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (1) (50/1 -614%) Winchurch |
50/1(-614%) | (1) Winchurch 50/1, Twice-raced winner. Successful at Southwell in April. Last of 5 in minor event (5/1) at Musselburgh (5f, good to soft) 54 days ago. Looks vulnerable under a penalty. 5f AW win on debut but disappointing on turf ten days later; vulnerable under a penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (13) (22/1 -144%) Lucky Lottery |
22/1(-144%) | (13) Lucky Lottery 22/1, Twice-raced maiden. Second of 8 in claimer at Beverley (5f, soft, 14/1) 16 days ago. Each-way chance. Tailed off on debut but 2nd in a Beverley claimer nine days later; needs more to win here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (2) (80/1 -300%) Black Tide |
80/1(-300%) | (2) Black Tide 80/1, Once-raced maiden. Seventh of 10 in maiden at Redcar (6f, good, 11/1) on debut 25 days ago. Will need to leave that well behind if he's to play a leading role. Outpaced and beaten 12l on last month's Redcar debut; quickly dropped in class. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (11) (100/1 -400%) Chalena |
100/1(-400%) | (11) Chalena 100/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 14/1, fifth of 6 in maiden at Chepstow (5.1f, heavy) 31 days ago. Probably more one for nurseries in due course. Fifth in each of her four 5f starts; improvement a requirement now upped in trip. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
MRBLUESKY shaped with more promise than the bare result suggests when finishing fifth on his debut over 5f at Redcar last month, becoming outpaced before running on well when the penny dropped. Now stepping up in trip for the in-form Richard Fahey team, he gets the vote to score. I Love Dad made a pleasing start when finishing third over 5f at Goodwood last Sunday and he is respected with improvement forthcoming, while last-time-out winner Isla Bella completes the shortlist.
The vote goes to ISLA BELLA, who left her debut effort behind when striking at Brighton and she probably has more to offer. I Love Dad didn't shape at all badly in a Goodwood seller recently and he is entitled to come on for that, while Rex Carver needs considering, for all that he appeared to take a backward step at Carlisle. Lucky Lottery is not without each-way hope.
Both Bungle Reigns and MRBLUESKY can leave their debut form behind now upped to 6f.

Jumbeau |
(3) (6/1 +8%)6/1(+8%) | (3) Jumbeau 6/1, 1 win from 2 runs this year. Cheekpieces on for 1st time, career best when winning 5-runner handicap (85/40) at Windsor (5.1f, good to firm) 20 days ago. Ought to be in the shake-up. Cheekpieces saw her end a losing run at Windsor last month; major player up 4lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Al Simmo |
(1) (20/1 -100%)20/1(-100%) | (1) Al Simmo 20/1, Seven wins from 24 Flat runs. 3/1, respectable sixth of 10 in handicap at Newmarket (6f, good to firm). Off 8 months but she can make her presence felt. Tough mare who has been placed in this race in the last two seasons; wouldn't want rain. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (13) (9/4 +32%) Alfa Kellenic |
9/4(+32%) | (13) Alfa Kellenic 9/4, Promising sort who arrives on a hat-trick after wins at Newcastle and Thrisk, readily landing 10-runner handicap on latter occasion. Expected to be bang there under a 6 lb penalty. Bolted up on recent handicap debut at Thirsk; 4lb well in but this opposition much stiffer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (12/1 +0%) Flaccianello |
12/1(+0%) | (8) Flaccianello 12/1, Off 8 months before fading fourth of 6 in handicap at Leicester (6f, good to soft) 18 days ago. Can take a step forward. Three wins as a 2yo; may come on for last month's return and her yard are going well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (7/1 +7%) Queen Of Mougins |
7/1(+7%) | (7) Queen Of Mougins 7/1, Lightly-raced winner. Respectable 7¾ lengths eighth of 14 to Elite Status in listed race at Newbury (6f, good to firm, 40/1) 27 days ago. Makes handicap debut. No forlorn hope. Midfield in two Listed events this year; improvement required now handicapping. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (11/2 +27%) Katey Kontent |
11/2(+27%) | (4) Katey Kontent 11/2, 1 win from 1 run this year. Landed 10-runner handicap at Windsor (6f, good to firm, 7/2) 32 days ago. Merits consideration. Improved effort to win at Windsor last month; up 3lb but back against her own sex. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (20/1 +20%) Star Of Lady M |
20/1(+20%) | (6) Star Of Lady M 20/1, 3 wins from 9 runs this year. Latest win at Thirsk in May. Not seen to best effect when fifth of 6 in handicap (7/2) at Lingfield (5f, AW) 10 days ago. Considered. Four wins since November but beaten off this mark the last twice and others look stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (66/1 -100%) Conservationist |
66/1(-100%) | (9) Conservationist 66/1, 33/1, sixth of 7 in handicap at Thirsk (6f, good to firm) 27 days ago. Plenty to find on form. Well held in two runs for current yard and this sharp 6f isn't sure to suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (8/1 -23%) Midream |
8/1(-23%) | (2) Midream 8/1, Lightly-raced winner. 7/1, good 3¼ lengths third of 6 to Electric Storm in listed race at Haydock (6f, soft) 21 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Needs considering. Progressive filly who stayed on well for 3rd in Listed company last month; can do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (11/1 -47%) Apeeling |
11/1(-47%) | (11) Apeeling 11/1, Lightly-raced winner. Career best when winning 11-runner minor event at Windsor (6f, good to firm, 5/1) 11 days ago, digging deep. Carries penalty. Makes her handicap debut and much respected under a 6 lb penalty. Off the mark at Windsor 11 days ago; penalty could leave her vulnerable on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (28/1 -56%) Born To Rock |
28/1(-56%) | (5) Born To Rock 28/1, Lightly-raced winner. 20/1, 12¼ lengths seventh of 9 to Great Generation in Chartwell Stakes at Lingfield (7f, good to firm) 34 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Hard to make a case for at these weights. Hasn't kicked on from last May's impressive Yarmouth debut; this mark not an obvious gift. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (12) (22/1 +12%) Lady Pink Rose |
22/1(+12%) | (12) Lady Pink Rose 22/1, 33/1, below form ninth of 15 in handicap at this course (7f, good) 30 days ago. Needs a couple of these to falter. Not matched her 2yo form in three runs this season; down in weights but vulnerable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (10) (7/1 +18%) Thursday's Child |
7/1(+18%) | (10) Thursday's Child 7/1, Thrice-raced winner. 2 wins from 3 runs this year. Solid fourth of 15 in handicap at this course (7f, good, 16/1) 30 days ago. Can give a good account. Won her first two starts before a good 4th on h'cap debut here last month (7f); unexposed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
JUMBEAU was sporting first-time cheekpieces (retained) when getting the better of a useful sort over 5f at Windsor last month and, upped 4lb, she could be a force to be reckoned with in sprint handicaps this season. Katey Kontent came with a wet sail to lead in the dying strides over 6f at Windsor latest and another bold bid can be expected. Punters seeking an unexposed sprinter will surely look to Midream, who makes her handicap debut on the back of a solid third in Listed company.
A few with chances but Craig Lidster's ALFA KELLENIC scored with something in hand at Thirsk last time and still looks ahead of her mark under a 6 lb penalty so is taken to complete her hat-trick. Katey Kontent is feared most on the back of her Windsor success, although a solid case can also be made for Star of Lady M, Thursday's Child and Apeeling in this competitive handicap.
Last month's Windsor winners Katey Kontent and JUMBEAU (nap), who responded well to cheekpieces last time, appeal most.

1st (5) (16/1 -60%) Havana Gila |
16/1(-60%) | (5) Havana Gila 16/1, Foaled February 19. Havana Gold filly. Dam 6f winner. Showed some ability and likely to have derived a good deal from her fifth of 11 in novice at Kempton (6f) on debut 23 days ago. Open to improvement. Promising start over 6f at Kempton last month; should win races but perhaps not this one. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (2/1 +20%) River Seine |
2/1(+20%) | (3) River Seine 2/1, Well-related filly who matched debut form (again displaying plenty of speed) when third of 5 in Carlisle novice (5f) 25 days ago, the stiff finish arguably catching her out. This track will suit better and there could yet be more to come for her very good yard. Speedy filly & York should suit well; closely matched with Baileys Jubilation; rain a ?. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (14/1 -75%) Raison D'etre |
14/1(-75%) | (2) Raison D'etre 14/1, Foaled January 28. Bated Breath filly. Dam, 2-y-o 5f winner, half-sister to useful 5f/6f winner Tarhib. Speedily-bred sort representing yard who can ready a newcomer so interesting if market vibes are positive behind her. Dam a 5f 2yo winner; useful standard to aim at on debut and likely best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (5/2 -11%) Baileys Jubilation |
5/2(-11%) | (1) Baileys Jubilation 5/2, Oasis Dream filly who displayed promise amidst greenness when fourth on debut at Newmarket (5f) and she again ran well (fared best of those drawn high) when fifth in listed Marygate Stakes over C&D 4 weeks ago. Sound claims back in calmer waters. Promise on debut before a fine fifth in a C&D Listed event last month; strong claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (100/1 -355%) I Got Soul |
100/1(-355%) | (7) I Got Soul 100/1, 35,000 gns yearling, Havana Grey filly. Showed a bit when sixth of 10 in maiden at Wetherby (5.5f) on debut 11 days ago. However, she needs to step up a good deal on that if she's to play a part here. Tapped for speed at a crucial stage when 25-1 for recent Wetherby debut; up against it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (100/1 -203%) Innocent Smile |
100/1(-203%) | (6) Innocent Smile 100/1, Foaled February 23. £45,000 yearling, 37,500 gns 2-y-o, Mehmas filly. Dam 2-y-o 6f winner. Yard 0-11 with their juveniles so far this term and she's likely to be better for the run. 37,500gns breeze-up 2yo; dam a 6f 2yo winner; yard not renowned for debutante success. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (100/1 -4344%) Sunshine Soul |
100/1(-4344%) | (4) Sunshine Soul 100/1, 72,000 gns 2-y-o, Mehmas filly. Impressed with the way she travelled when second of 11 in maiden at Nottingham (5f) on debut 9 days ago, taking that place final 50 yds without being knocked about. Looks sure to progress and one to consider here. 2nd to a well-touted and promising newcomer at Nottingham last week (green); can do better. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Although RIVER SEINE disappointed when sent off as favourite at Carlisle last time out, she finished ahead of the reopposing Baileys Jubilation in a warm Newmarket novice on her debut. The Soldier's Call filly has shown great speed on her two starts so far and this flat track will play to her strengths. The latter, who finished a creditable fifth in the Marygate last month, is an obvious threat. Sunshine Soul was second to a potentially useful type at Nottingham on debut and must also enter calculations.
SUNSHINE SOUL impressed with how she travelled when a promising second on debut at Nottingham 9 days ago and, very much the type to improve for that initial experience, she earns the vote to take a step forward and come out on top. Baileys Jubilation and River Seine both have a little more experience than the selection and can also feature.
River Seine was in front of BAILEYS JUBILATION on debut but the placings may be reversed this afternoon.

1st (10) (33/1 -136%) Ron O |
33/1(-136%) | (10) Ron O 33/1, Career best when winning 10-runner handicap at Redcar (1m, good, 13/2) 25 days ago. Back up in trip. On a career-high mark but he is handily drawn here. All turf and AW wins at 1m, most recently 25 days ago; much more to prove in rare 1m2f run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) (10/1 -11%) Have Secret |
10/1(-11%) | (11) Have Secret 10/1, Useful handicapper who recorded several creditable efforts in defeat last year. Returns from an 8-month break with his stable in form. Battling handicap headwinds but useful 4th in warm 1m2f handicap on reappearance last May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (13) (10/1 -18%) Reach |
10/1(-18%) | (13) Reach 10/1, C&D winner. Creditable third of 16 in C&D handicap at the Dante meeting 4 weeks ago, faring best of those held up. Consistent. Won 3 of 5 handicaps at 1m2f; creditable return; may yet have a bit more up her sleeve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (14/1 -133%) Godwinson |
14/1(-133%) | (8) Godwinson 14/1, Lightly-raced 4-y-o who was firmly back on track when ½-length second to Metal Merchant in Newbury Spring Cup on reappearance. His subsequent run back there was to bad to be true and he can be given another chance now stepping up to 1¼m for the first time. Smart 1m handicap form in April but a letdown since; a puzzle now trying a new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (17) (100/1 -525%) Qitaal |
100/1(-525%) | (17) Qitaal 100/1, Won on first start back with former yard at Doncaster in March. Has posted a couple of good in-frame efforts since (including over C&D) but his latest Redcar run was disappointing. Solid marker in soft-ground 1m2f handicaps earlier but dropped right out at Redcar latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (100/1 -1329%) Penzance |
100/1(-1329%) | (3) Penzance 100/1, 4-y-o who has progressed at a rate of knots on AW over the winter, winning 4 times and good second of 14 in handicap at Newcastle (1¼m) on Good Friday. Given a bit of time since. Interesting to see if he can continue the good work back on turf. Major success story at 1m2f on AW for new yard; interesting back on turf. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (14) (100/1 -203%) Parlando |
100/1(-203%) | (14) Parlando 100/1, Winner in Bahrain in February but has struggled back in Britain. Not hard to look elsewhere. Winning debut as 2yo; sole win since in Bahrain; up against it on British form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (16) (100/1 -1076%) High Fibre |
100/1(-1076%) | (16) High Fibre 100/1, 20/1 and tongue strap on for 1st time, creditable seventh of 14 in handicap at Newbury (1¼m, good) on reappearance 28 days ago, having hopeless task from position. Seemingly fragile (very lightly raced in recent years) but he is capable from this sort of mark. Seen just once in each of the last 2 years; promising reappearance and retains potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (40/1 -300%) Arthur's Realm |
40/1(-300%) | (7) Arthur's Realm 40/1, Two wins from 5 runs this year. 14/1, career best when winning 10-runner handicap at Redcar (1¼m, soft) 18 days ago. Did that with something to spare but a 6 lb rise demands further improvement. Emphatic winner back over 1m2f at Redcar (soft); up 6lb; chance much improved by rain. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (66/1 -65%) Storm Catcher |
66/1(-65%) | (4) Storm Catcher 66/1, Likeable sort who enhanced fine AW strike rate when narrowly landing the odds in a Wolverhampton handicap in February. Well held back on turf at Newmarket last time and has still to prove he's as effective on the grass. Good AW record at 1m2f; 0-7 on turf but does act on grass; good run not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (2) (28/1 -27%) Killybegs Warrior |
28/1(-27%) | (2) Killybegs Warrior 28/1, Won a valuable 1¼m handicap on the July Course last summer and some smart efforts in defeat subsequently, notably his second from the front in 11f Rosebery at Kempton on reappearance in April. Below par on turf since, though. Bounce back needed. Has C&D form on varying ground; work to do on this year's turf form, weak at Epsom latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (12) (100/1 -614%) Mustazeed |
100/1(-614%) | (12) Mustazeed 100/1, Creditable eighth of 14 in handicap at Newbury (1¼m, good, 6/1) on reappearance 28 days ago, needing stronger gallop. Won first 2 runs for yard in 2023; no advance since; still 4lb above latest winning mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (9) (80/1 -841%) Old Harrovian |
80/1(-841%) | (9) Old Harrovian 80/1, Looked very useful last spring. Notably strong in the market in competitive Rosebery at Kempton (11f) on return in April but he faded after racing keenly. Retains potential, particularly if settling better this time. Looked good when winning two 1m4f AW novices last spring; lesser runs on turf/AW since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (1) (100/1 -1011%) Oviedo |
100/1(-1011%) | (1) Oviedo 100/1, Progressed well last season, including second over C&D at the Ebor meeting. Off 7 months, shaped as if better for run when last of 6 in Chester Group 2 on reappearance. May do better back in a handicap. Cracking handicap form at 1m2f and 1m1f on good to firm in 2023; well held on reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
15th (6) (100/1 -1076%) Machete |
100/1(-1076%) | (6) Machete 100/1, First run since leaving Fabrice Chappet when promising 4¾ lengths fourth of 10 to Arthur's Realm in handicap at Redcar (1¼m, soft, 20/1) on UK debut 18 days ago. Interesting runner. Listed AW winner in France, 1-15 on turf there; unlucky debut 4th for new yard; intriguing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
16th (5) (100/1 -900%) Scampi |
100/1(-900%) | (5) Scampi 100/1, Course winner. 11/2, creditable fourth of 12 in C&D handicap on final start last year. Hood back on. His course record makes him a tough one to discount but the draw could have been kinder back from 8 months off. Two good 1m4f wins in 2023, including here; lacks recent run; work to do over 1m2f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
17th (15) (100/1 -150%) Masekela |
100/1(-150%) | (15) Masekela 100/1, Pretty smart at his best but it's 13 runs since last win in 2021. Has left Andrew Balding ahead of reappearance. It's likely he's best watched this time. Finished 4th in the 2022 Derby; fell from grace in handicaps last year; new yard. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
REACH made a pleasing return to action when filling the frame over C&D last month. A progressive sort during her five-year-old campaign, the Sea The Stars mare can build on that reappearance run before perhaps attempting to double up in the John Smith's Cup next month. Penzance came up just short when looking to complete a five-timer at Newcastle in March but further progress isn't out of the question, while others to note include Oviedo, Scampi and Arthur's Realm.
GODWINSON can't have been himself at Newbury last time and is worth another chance to confirm the promise of his reappearance effort at the same Berkshire venue. Machete caught the eye when fourth in the Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar on his first start for David O'Meara and is second choice ahead of Reach, a good third over C&D at the Dante meeting, and Penzance.
Any rain to fall will improve the chance of MACHETE who looks interesting off this mark on his old French form.

22/1(-10%) | (11) Invisible Friend 22/1, Fifth of 8 in handicap (15/2) at this C&D (soft). Off 8 months. Has work to do. Didn't fire over C&D in final run last season and has bit to prove after 265 days off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (100/1 -1438%) Pol Roger |
100/1(-1438%) | (10) Pol Roger 100/1, Won 7-runner handicap at Ayr (10f, good, 4/1) 23 days ago, well positioned. Looks a definite player in his current mood. Resurgent 4yo who has won at Ayr last twice and remains feasibly treated; respected. |

28/1(-133%) | (13) Shifter 28/1, Five wins from 19 Flat runs. 2 wins from 3 runs this year. Career best when winning 6-runner handicap at Redcar (10f, soft, 11/4) 17 days ago, cosily. Has won three of her last five starts and is respected in this hat-trick bid. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (16) (8/1 -33%) Life On The Rocks |
8/1(-33%) | (16) Life On The Rocks 8/1, 3 wins from 9 runs this year. 2/1, won 8-runner handicap at Wetherby (10f, good to soft) 3 days ago, always holding on. Thriving at present and deserves respect for all that this is a good deal more competitive. Has won three in a row and his win on Tuesday was off this mark; shortlisted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (28/1 -331%) Leadenhall |
28/1(-331%) | (5) Leadenhall 28/1, First run since leaving Ralph Beckett when creditable third of 10 in handicap at Redcar (8f, good, 22/1) 25 days ago. Up in trip. Can make presence felt. Good third on stable debut at Redcar and he looks worth a try at this new trip; in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (15) (20/1 -25%) My Harrison George |
20/1(-25%) | (15) My Harrison George 20/1, 7/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, creditable fourth of 12 in handicap at Haydock (11.6f, firm) 7 days ago. Fair efforts last twice but he's now 0-10 and this is highly competitive back up in grade.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (50/1 -456%) Moonlit Cloud |
50/1(-456%) | (7) Moonlit Cloud 50/1, Latest win at Bath in May. Creditable fifth of 14 in handicap (28/1) at Newbury (10f, good) 28 days ago, faring best of those held up. One to consider. 4l win at Bath last month and was only beaten 2l at Newbury last time; dangerous. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (100/1 -900%) Richard P Smith |
100/1(-900%) | (6) Richard P Smith 100/1, 17/2, career best when winning 7-runner handicap at Windsor (10f, good to firm) 32 days ago, bit in hand. Has the right style for a big-field event like this, so worthy of consideration. Won at Windsor on his return last month and he's only 2lb higher here; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (100/1 -456%) Bint Al Daar |
100/1(-456%) | (9) Bint Al Daar 100/1, 15/2, twelfth of 13 in handicap at Newmarket (8f, good to firm) 26 days ago. Back up in trip. Up against it. Laboured in her last two runs and she needs a major revival here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (100/1 -400%) Jean Baptiste |
100/1(-400%) | (3) Jean Baptiste 100/1, Nineteen runs since last win in 2022. 7¾ lengths fifth of 7 to Pol Roger in handicap at Ayr (10f, good, 3/1) 23 days ago, dictating pace. Others make more appeal. Disappointing at Ayr latest and losing run is now up to 19; down the list. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (4) (200/1 -100%) Manu Et Corde |
200/1(-100%) | (4) Manu Et Corde 200/1, Cheekpieces on for 1st time, first run since leaving Iain Jardine when tenth of 11 in handicap (150/1) at Musselburgh (7.1f, good) 13 days ago. Significantly back up in trip. Hard to fancy. Lost his way for Jim Bolger and has struggled in three runs this term; lots to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (12) (100/1 -525%) Paris Lights |
100/1(-525%) | (12) Paris Lights 100/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2022. 14/1, respectable third of 9 in handicap at Nottingham (8.3f, good) 12 days ago. Back up in trip. Not dismissed. Eyecatching third at Nottingham last time and could be dangerous back up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (14) (100/1 -150%) Cosmic Soul |
100/1(-150%) | (14) Cosmic Soul 100/1, Last of 8 in handicap (14/1) at Catterick (15.9f, good) 32 days ago. Significantly down in trip. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Something to find on form. Has struggled over hurdles and on the Flat for new yard this year; lots to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (2) (100/1 -809%) Prenup |
100/1(-809%) | (2) Prenup 100/1, Creditable fourth of 10 in handicap at Ascot (10f, good to firm, 7/1) 34 days ago. Not dismissed for all that others look better treated. Still 5lb higher than for her last win and has some work to do in this competitive race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|DQ| (1) (80/1 -3456%) Arctic Mountain |
80/1(-3456%) | (1) Arctic Mountain 80/1, 2/1, career best when winning 7-runner handicap at Lingfield (10f, good to firm) 6 days ago, driven clear. Still ahead of the handicapper under a penalty and boasts leading claims in first-time cheekpieces. Emphatic win at Lingfield last week and he's 6lb well in under a penalty; strong claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (100/1 -300%) Shimmering Sands |
100/1(-300%) | (8) Shimmering Sands 100/1, Twelfth of 13 in handicap (15/2) at this C&D (good). Off 9 months. Others more persuasive. Had wind surgery but this looks a tough task after 278 days off and others are preferred. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The unexposed ARCTIC MOUNTAIN is 6lb well-in under a 5lb penalty for scoring at Lingfield six days ago and, should the relatively quick turnaround be no issue, he's taken to repeat the dose. Pol Roger completed a double at Ayr last month and there might be more to come over this trip. That said, there ought to be plenty of pace on offer which could help a closer such as Shifter, who attempts to land a hat-trick following last month's Redcar triumph.
ARCTIC MOUNTAIN improved and created a good impression when scoring at Lingfield 6 days ago so, if the race doesn't come too soon, he's capable of defying a penalty in first-time cheekpieces. Pol Roger and Life On The Rocks are other last-time-out winners who arrive on the up, and both are likely to be involved.
This is highly competitive but the vote goes to ARCTIC MOUNTAIN, who is well treated under a penalty for his Lingfield win last week.
Ths is the racecard key.

Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
