1st (8) (7/1 +30%) Fernando |
7/1(+30%) | (8) Fernando 7/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 50/1 and hooded for 1st time, tenth of 12 in novice at Kempton (7f) 47 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Must improve. Nursery debut; gelded, which could help him tap into the potential in his pedigree. |

2nd (7) (33/1 -32%) Creative Lady |
33/1(-32%) | (7) Creative Lady 33/1, Lightly-raced winner. Winner at Lingfield in August. 22/1, last of 9 in nursery at Newmarket (7f, good to soft) 9 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Others more persuasive. May have more to offer now at 1m; has to bounce back from soft-ground defeat at Newmarket. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (9/4 -29%) Sofia The First |
9/4(-29%) | (1) Sofia The First 9/4, Thrice-raced winner. 1 win from 3 runs this year. 9/2, won 10-runner maiden at Lingfield (7f, AW) 26 days ago. Makes handicap debut off a handy-looking mark. Player. Got up on the line at Lingfield (7f, AW); respected now upped to 1m on nursery debut. |

5/2(+38%) | (2) Gap Year 5/2, Lightly-raced maiden. Creditable third of 7 in nursery at Newmarket (8f, heavy, 7/1) 11 days ago. Not taken lightly. 3rd on nursery debut at Newmarket despite not looking at home on the track; could go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (11/1 -38%) Many Men |
11/1(-38%) | (5) Many Men 11/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 16/5, good third of 10 in maiden at Bath (8f, good) 23 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Can give a good account. Placed on two of his three starts; begins handicap life on fair mark; not discounted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (12/1 -50%) Glitter Code |
12/1(-50%) | (6) Glitter Code 12/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 12/1, good fifth of 10 in nursery at this course (7f, good to firm) 20 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Not ruled out. Unable to threaten in his two nurseries but may appreciate a return to a slow surface. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (10/3 +17%) Laplander |
10/3(+17%) | (3) Laplander 10/3, Lightly-raced maiden. Good second of 6 in nursery (15/2) at Sandown (8f, soft) 24 days ago, running on. Needs considering. Runner-up at Sandown recently behind one who was making it 3-3 in nurseries; lots to like. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
SOFIA THE FIRST has improved with each run to date and got up on the line to shed her maiden tag over 7f at Lingfield on her most recent outing. The daughter of New Bay shaped as if this step up in trip would suit and she can make a winning nursery debut. Laplander put his underwhelming performances in novice/maiden company well behind him when hitting the crossbar on his first start in a nursery at Sandown last month and he could go well. Gap Year is the pick of the rest.
Andrew Balding's SOFIA THE FIRST looks to have got in lightly for her first go in handicaps so gets the vote. Gap Year is next on the list on the back of his good Newmarket third ahead of Laplander and Many Men.
Having bumped into a thriving winner when runner-up on last month's nursery debut at Sandown, LAPLANDER is taken to go one better.

5/2(+38%) | (1) Bintjeddah 5/2, 220,000 gns yearling, Too Darn Hot filly.1 win from 2 runs this year. Cheekpieces on for 1st time, won 6-runner novice at Haydock (8f, good, 16/1) 31 days ago. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (9/2 +86%) Lady Ridgewood |
9/2(+86%) | (6) Lady Ridgewood 9/2, Foaled April 14. 82,000 gns yearling, Nathaniel filly. Sister to smart 1¼m-1½m winner Mutamakina and half-sister to several winners, including 7f/1m winner Floriss. Dam 1m winner. From a good family; trainer only had one placed from 11 juvenile runners this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (9/1 +25%) Bayenah |
9/1(+25%) | (2) Bayenah 9/1, Once-raced maiden. Last of 6 in maiden (11/1) at Sandown (7f, good) on debut 37 days ago. Has stamina on the dam's side and today's longer trip should suit but it will need to. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (20/1 -25%) Chadleeny |
20/1(-25%) | (3) Chadleeny 20/1, €110,000 2-y-o by Kingman.11/2, eighth of 12 in novice at Kempton (7f) on debut 21 days ago. Below market expectations on her Polytrack debut three weeks ago; has to improve a deal. |

80/1(-700%) | (7) Missile Mac 80/1, 7/2, last of 4 in maiden at Epsom (7f, good to firm) on debut 52 days ago. Open to progress. All at sea round Epsom on debut in August when last of four in an ordinary fillies' maiden. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Bintjeddah took a big leap forward from her debut effort when scoring by three lengths at Haydock last month and she should mount a bold bid, despite her 7lb penalty. However, the vote goes to STARLIT SPICE, who produced a promising effort to take the silver medal home on her first start at Leicester. The daughter of Sea The Stars is likely to have plenty more to offer and can go one better. Any market support for Hot Flame needs to be taken seriously.
STARLIT SPICE couldn't have created a much more favourable impression on debut and should be winning sooner rather than later, though Pearl of Hope shaped well on debut also and Bint Jeddah can improve again and play a part despite a stiff penalty.
A 180,000gns sister to a 1m 2yo winner, STARLIT SPICE can make the most of the 7lb she receives from the penalised Bintjeddah.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
ZANZOUN only found the subsequent Group 3 winner Tabiti too good on her debut at Newmarket in August and that looks like the best form on offer in this contest. John & Thady Gosden's youngster might only need to find minimal improvement in order to shed her maiden tag at the second time of asking. Jowddah has run to a good level on both of her starts to date, filling the runner-up spot on both occasions and she commands respect. Any market support for newcomer Rhapsody should be noted too.
ZANZOUN looks the one to be with after a promising debut Newmarket second. Jowddah has a similar level of form and should still improve, while Godolphin's Cardinal Point is likely to step forward from debut.
The Gosden yard's ZANZOUN did nothing wrong when runner-up on her debut and can improve to win here. Jowddah is second choice.

1st (4) (1/1 +20%) Melon Twist |
1/1(+20%) | (4) Melon Twist 1/1, Thrice-raced maiden, good second of 4 in novice at Southwell (7.1f, 10/1) 33 days ago. Big shout. Fair form in 7f novice events on last two starts, including on good to soft; good chance. |

2nd (2) (7/4 -17%) Manhattan Mirage |
7/4(-17%) | (2) Manhattan Mirage 7/4, Lightly-raced maiden. Gelded before a below-par fifth of 8 in novice at Ripon (6f, good to firm, 6/4). Off 124 days. First run for yard after leaving Dominic Ffrench Davis and needs to bounce back. Placed first 3 starts (on softer than good); two backward steps since, gelded in between. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (4/1 -20%) Makes Sense |
4/1(-20%) | (1) Makes Sense 4/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 7/2, solid fourth of 10 in novice at Kempton (7f) 40 days ago, better placed than most. In the mix. Two 2nds and not discredited in 4th last time; two of these rivals have better form claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (50/1 -52%) Believe It |
50/1(-52%) | (3) Believe It 50/1, Twice-raced maiden. 12/1, seventh of 11 in novice at Kempton (6f) 21 days ago. Needs a big step forward. Seventh in her two AW novice events at Kempton; needs a great deal better. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Manhattan Mirage has placed form on soft ground, but returned a beaten favourite when last seen at Ripon in June. MELON TWIST makes more appeal returning to this distance, having ran out of steam attempting to make all over 7f at Southwell, as the daughter of Showcasing is steadily improving. Makes Sense also reverts to a shorter trip and is preferred to Believe It of the remainder.
Karl Burke's MELON TWIST looks to have been found an excellent opportunity to get off the mark at the chief expense of Kempton-fourth Makes Sense and Raphael Freire's new recruit Manhattan Mirage.
A return to ground softer than good may well assist Manhattan Mirage but it looks safer to side with MELON TWIST.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (10/3 -167%) Liberatus |
10/3(-167%) | (2) Liberatus 10/3, Twice-raced winner. 1 win from 2 runs this year. 2/1, won 7-runner maiden at Hamilton (8.3f, good) 15 days ago, well positioned. Up in trip. Makes handicap debut. Open to improvement. Improved for his racecourse debut when winning a Hamilton maiden last month.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
LIBERATUS showed good battling qualities when coming out best in a fight to the line at Hamilton last month. His dam won over this longer trip and Charlie Johnston's inmate can improve further now handicapping. Bracklesham Bay has shown progressive form in nurseries and landed a double with his latest victory at Bath, though he's been raised 8lb for that success and is upped in class. Flying Fortress may improve in first-time cheekpieces and makes more appeal than Stormy Monday.
BRACKLESHAM BAY arrives on the up so is fancied to complete his hat-trick at the chief expense of recent Hamilton scorer Liberatus. Stormy Monday appeals as a likely improver on his handicap debut and can also have a big say in this open nursery.
This looks between two and the Jamie Osborne-trained BRACKLESHAM BAY, who is on a hat-trick, is just preferred to Liberatus.

Winning hurdler MACARI can open his account on the level after finishing runner-up over 1m4f on testing going at Newmarket 11 days ago. The four-year-old finished well clear of the rest that day and this looks less competitive. Afloat is a dual winner over 1m2f here and went close again on her latest start, while Sarmiento Power posted his best effort so far when second at Newcastle on his handicap debut. Twin Earth is another unexposed type capable of making his presence felt.
Lots with chances but Roger Varian's SARMIENTO POWER found just one too strong on his handicap debut at Newcastle last month, so he's fancied to go a place better with further improvement on the cards. In-form course winner Afloat heads the list of dangers, with the likes of Fram Castle, Mrs Meader and Turner Girl also well in the mix in this competitive handicap.
The unexposed SARMIENTO POWER looks progressive from just four starts and should stay the extra distance. Afloat is next best.

7/2(-27%) | (6) Tribal Chief 7/2, Three wins from 8 runs this year. Career best when winning 9-runner handicap (4/1) at Epsom (8.5f, heavy) 25 days ago. Progressed since handicapping; a 6lb rise demands more but a fair chance of the hat-trick. |

7/4(+42%) | (7) Never Better 7/4, Promising sort. Creditable second of 13 in handicap at Ayr (8f, good to firm, 15/8) 18 days ago. In good hands and, with clear scope for improvement, this son of No Nay Never will be a danger to all if he handles conditions. Dam was fine on this ground, which gives hope, and he remains lightly raced; shortlisted. |

4th (1) (7/1 +30%) Urban Lion |
7/1(+30%) | (1) Urban Lion 7/1, Lightly-raced winner. Successful at Chelmsford City in August. 7/2, fifth of 8 in handicap at Newbury (8f, soft) 16 days ago. Down 2 lb and he remains open to progress. No certainty today's easier 1m will suit back on to a less testing surface; needs more. |

5th (5) (10/1 -82%) Where's Freddy |
10/1(-82%) | (5) Where's Freddy 10/1, Latest win at Newmarket in July. 18/1, creditable second of 11 in handicap at the same course (7f, good) 16 days ago, running on. Return to this trip may help and he has performed well both previous visits here. Cheekpieces have helped; claims but up against some progressive 3yos off career-high mark. |

6th (8) (25/1 -25%) Dream Pirate |
25/1(-25%) | (8) Dream Pirate 25/1, C&D winner. Eleven runs since last win in 2023. 9/1, tenth of 12 in handicap at Kempton (8f) 54 days ago. Needs to get back on track. Dual soft-ground winner this time last year who's back on a handy mark; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (25/1 +0%) Dazitoo |
25/1(+0%) | (9) Dazitoo 25/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 11/2, respectable seventh of 12 in handicap at Haydock (7f, good) 31 days ago. Needs to find improvement from somewhere. Hasn't progressed, finishing well held on her handicap debut; has to prove her stamina. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (20/1 -100%) Repertoire |
20/1(-100%) | (2) Repertoire 20/1, 9/2, respectable third of 8 in handicap at Windsor (8.1f, soft) 44 days ago. Not without an each-way chance off the same mark here. Remains consistent for his age and goes well for Jamie Spencer, so is one to consider. |

9th (3) (25/1 +0%) Niigata |
25/1(+0%) | (3) Niigata 25/1, Lightly-raced winner. 14/1 and blinkered for 1st time, seventh of 8 in handicap at Kempton (11f) 40 days ago. Down in trip and cheekpieces back on. Fair bit to prove. Didn't look to see out 1m3f last time, having been gelded, but has questions to answer now. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Tribal Chief is looking for a hat-trick after wins at Kempton and Epsom, but he is off 6lb higher now and may find some of his rivals are better handicapped. Dream Pirate fits that description off a mark of 64, having won off 1lb higher in October last year, but TERRIES ROYALE could be the one. An easy winner at Newmarket last time out, the four-year-old has been put up 5lb for that but after only nine races, there may still be improvement to come.
With his yard going great guns TRIBAL CHIEF is taken to complete the hat-trick. He's gone up a total of 12 lb for his victories at Kempton and Epsom but there's good reason to believe that he may still harbour secrets from the handicapper. Provided he goes on the ground Never Better will be a serious threat given his potential, while recent Newmarket scorer Terries Royale and Urban Lion are others to consider.
This can go to NEVER BETTER (nap), who remains open to improvement. A better effort from Dream Pirate wouldn't surprise.

1st (9) (33/1 +0%) World Of Darcy |
33/1(+0%) | (9) World Of Darcy 33/1, 20/1, tenth of 11 in handicap at Chelmsford City (5f) 18 days ago. Back up in trip and this 3-y-o looks set for another struggle. Useful 2yo who's struggled badly this season; Moreginplease looks his yard's best chance. |

2nd (10) (7/2 +42%) Realised |
7/2(+42%) | (10) Realised 7/2, 3½ lengths sixth of 9 to Marching Mac in handicap (5/4) at Brighton (6f, good) 20 days ago. Has form here (and on an easy surface) but, based on that Brighton display, it's somewhat surprising that connections are perservering with this trip (appears to be suited by 7f/1m). Disappointing at a short price on her first crack at sprinting behind Marching Mac latest. |

3rd (5) (9/1 +55%) Dusk Dame |
9/1(+55%) | (5) Dusk Dame 9/1, Latest win at Ffos Las in August. Eighth of 9 in handicap at Leicester (5f, soft, 7/1) 27 days ago. Back up in trip and now tried in blinkers (tongue strap also refitted). Conditions won't be a problem but others make more appeal on balance. Made all for her two wins; poor effort last time will need forgiving switched to blinkers. |

4th (8) (4/1 +0%) Marching Mac |
4/1(+0%) | (8) Marching Mac 4/1, Winner at Brighton in September. Good second of 10 in handicap at Bath (5f, soft, 16/1) 6 days ago. Clearly in good nick and, with no worries ground-wise, another bold show is seemingly on the cards. Got it together lately; will be happier back up to 6f and goes on the shortlist. |

5th (6) (11/2 -10%) Kurimu |
11/2(-10%) | (6) Kurimu 11/2, Winner at Doncaster in June. Second of 4 in handicap (11/8) at this course (5.2f, good to firm) 20 days ago, conceding first run. Place possibilities. Plenty of short-priced defeats to go with her sole win; return to 6f/slower ground ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (11) (17/2 +39%) Moreginplease |
17/2(+39%) | (11) Moreginplease 17/2, One win from 27 Flat runs. 12/1, respectable fourth of 10 in handicap at Chelmsford City (6f) 9 days ago, not ideally placed. Likely to find one or two too good once more. Two solid efforts here in the summer and has been offering more of late; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (22/1 -267%) Snow Berry |
22/1(-267%) | (7) Snow Berry 22/1, Unreliable sort. Course winner. 3 wins from 7 runs this year. Latest win at Bath in September. Seventh of 8 in handicap (9/4) at Bath (5f, good to firm) 22 days ago, very slowly away. Probably worth taking on. On a career-high mark, finished well held last time and is best suited by better ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (6/1 -33%) Flying Secret |
6/1(-33%) | (1) Flying Secret 6/1, Won 9-runner handicap at this course (7f, good to firm, 9/2) 18 days ago by length from King of War. More will be needed off this 5 lb higher mark and it will be a concern if (as seems likely) the word 'soft' appears in the going description. 2-2 here after recent 7f win off 5lb lower; drop in trip/slower ground both concerning. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (15/2 -67%) King Of War |
15/2(-67%) | (2) King Of War 15/2, Cheekpieces on for 1st time, good length second of 9 to Flying Secret in handicap at this course (7f, good to firm, 15/2) 18 days ago. 3 lb rise pull gives him a realistic chance of exacting revenge on that rival, particularly back at this trip. Has form on good to soft (unproven on slower ground). Hasn't run in a sprint in ages; closely matched with Flying Secret but ground is a worry. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (100/1 -525%) Spiritual Pursuit |
100/1(-525%) | (4) Spiritual Pursuit 100/1, Hooded for 1st time, she trailed in last of 7 in handicap (100/1) at Wolverhampton (6.1f) on debut for new yard 10 days ago. Not easy to make a case for. Poor start for her new yard, in a first-time hood, when last at 100-1 ten days ago (AW). |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
FLYING SECRET has to carry topweight, but he maintained his unbeaten Yarmouth record with a second win over seven furlongs here last month. The five-year-old looks to have enough speed to do the same over this shorter trip, despite an added 5lb from the handicapper. Mick Appleby is never a trainer to ignore and Snow Berry could do better back at six furlongs if she gets away with the rest of the field, while Realised and Kurimu are looking to recoup losses after being beaten favourites last time out.
The vote goes to MARCHING MAC, who opened his account at the third time of asking for this yard at Brighton and lost little caste in defeat when chasing home a very well-treated rival dropped to 5f at Bath last week. He clearly handles cut in the ground and moving back up to 6f will be in his favour. King of War was beaten by Flying Secret over 7f here recently but is taken to reverse those placings back at this trip on 3 lb better terms. He rates the main danger ahead of Kurimu.
Marching Mac is respected, but MOREGINPLEASE has a good bit in her favour at a likely bigger price and is worth chancing.
Ths is the racecard key.
