1st (2) ![]() Derryhassen Paddy |
2/1(+71%) | (2) Derryhassen Paddy 2/1, Won sole start in Irish points/bumpers and again looked a bright prospect when making a successful hurdling debut in 7-runner novice at Uttoxeter (19.9f, heavy) 54 days ago. Upped in trip and seems sure to do better. 3-3 in a point, bumper and 2m4f maiden hurdle; likely to stay and has a bright future. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) ![]() Honky Tonk Highway |
5/1(-150%) | (4) Honky Tonk Highway 5/1, Listed bumper winner. Made hurdles bow after wind op when chasing home a smart one on return (Warwick 19f) and didn't need to improve on that when making all in 2m listed event at Sandown since. Looks a stayer so there should be plenty more to come now upped appreciably in trip. This big step up in trip is plausible but marked improvement is needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) ![]() Excello |
11/4(+8%) | (5) Excello 11/4, Showed improved form on second outing for Nicky Henderson when winning a 21f course graduation chase last December. Came unstuck in very strong Cheltenham handicaps but has found only one too good on both starts back over hurdles this season, latterly at this course. Should go well again. The clear pick on best chase form; hurdles form this season still puts him in the picture. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) ![]() Clondaw General |
7/2(+22%) | (1) Clondaw General 7/2, £150,000 purchase on the back of Irish point success and followed up in 4-runner novice hurdle at Worcester (23f) on Rules debut in October, forging clear after the last. Showed similar form up in grade when fourth at Cheltenham last month and remains with potential. 11l fourth of six in 3m Grade 2 novice at Cheltenham, so has stamina and plenty of ability. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) ![]() Dameofthecotswolds |
8/1(-100%) | (3) Dameofthecotswolds 8/1, Bumper winner who has improved again over hurdles this term, making it 3 wins from her last 4 in a novice at Doncaster (19.4f) last time. Highly likely to give another good account on this first try at 3m. Big improver; has had far more racing than three of today's rivals but she's in the mix. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Dameofthecotswolds made it three wins from her last four starts at Doncaster in November, but she will need to prove her stamina over this longer trip. With that in mind, EXCELLO looks the way to go. Nicky Henderson's charge has filled the runner-up spot on each on his last two starts, including over 2m4f at this venue last time, and the step back up in trip could work the oracle. Derryhassen Paddy is another to consider.
An interesting novice and cases can be made for all 5. HONKY TONK HIGHWAY has looked a stayer in the making so it's reasonable to assume she'll improve plenty for the marked step up in trip and can take her hurdles record to 2 wins from 3 starts. Dameofthecotswolds has developed into a most likeable sort this season and is very much respected on her first try at 3m, while Clondaw General remains with obvious potential.
This could be as much about potential as form and unbeaten DERRYHASSEN PADDY is preferred despite making the greatest step up in class.

1st (6) ![]() Herakles Westwood |
13/8(+68%) | (6) Herakles Westwood 13/8, Completed hurdle hat-trick last winter and further improvement switched to fences this season, building on return when winning at Newbury last month. Likely to progress again so needs considering. Won at Newbury (extended 2m7f) one month ago in his second chase; highly progressive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) ![]() Deafening Silence |
6/1(-100%) | (3) Deafening Silence 6/1, Point winner who boasted a record of 2-3 over hurdles, including Grade 2 success at Sandown (19.8f) last winter. Shaped very well after a year off when third in Haydock Graduation chase but went backwards at Cheltenham since. Worth another chance. Creditable third on chase debut but beaten 40l at Cheltenham next time; moves up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) ![]() Gericault Roque |
20/1(-67%) | (4) Gericault Roque 20/1, Took very well to chasing in 2021/22, placed all 5 starts, including excellent second of 24 to Corach Rambler in Ultima at Cheltenham on final start. All the better for return when third in Coral Cup at Newbury over 2 years ago but not seen since. Plenty of form says he can win this but the 783 days off has to be a worry. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) ![]() Kyntara |
9/2(+31%) | (5) Kyntara 9/2, Made up into a useful hurdler last term, scoring at Lingfield and Aintree. Runner-up at Hereford on chasing debut for Kim Bailey in 2022 and looked rusty when a well-held fourth in 23f handicap chase at Newbury on his return. Remains capable of a lot better in this sphere. Can build on his remote fourth to Herakles Westwood but others are higher up the list. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (7) ![]() Myretown |
11/4(+31%) | (7) Myretown 11/4, £135,000 buy after winning an Irish point in April 2022 and hurdles winner last season. Built for chasing and stepped up on chase bow/return when comfortable winner of 3-runner handicap at Wetherby 3 weeks ago. Will stay this far and more to come. Only two finished last time, but an appealing prospect for 3m and brings clear potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) ![]() Bhaloo |
11/1(-100%) | (2) Bhaloo 11/1, Dual novice hurdle winner last season and made a winning start over fences in 4-runner handicap chase at Ascot (18.8f, good) on return. Tame display over hurdles at Cheltenham since but remains with potential in this sphere. Ran poorly over hurdles latest but promising to win on Ascot chase debut the time before. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
HERAKLES WESTWOOD beat Kyntara (fourth) by a wide margin when putting in a bold round of jumping to score in this grade at Newbury last month. Warren Greatrex's eight-year-old might have been let off lightly with only a 7lb rise for that triumph and may have more to offer on only his third chase start. Myretown justified favouritism in easy style at Wetherby on Boxing Day and it would be no surprise to see him get involved. Johnnywho looks best of the rest.
There was plenty to like about MYRETOWN's win at Wetherby on Boxing Day so he gets the vote up 2 lb in what looks an open affair. Herakles Westwood has continued on the upgrade switched to fences this season and is next best ahead of Johnnywho, who will be suited by this stiffer test.
Cases can be made for all of them but HERAKLES WESTWOOD (nap) with his almost relentless improvement looks the safest option.

1st (2) ![]() Gidleigh Park |
15/2(-50%) | (2) Gidleigh Park 15/2, Useful winner of 3 of his 4 starts over hurdles last season, including a Cheltenham Grade 2. Has the scope for chasing, if not necessarily the robustness, bombing out on return at Kempton 8 weeks ago (reportedly had irregular heartbeat). Bit to prove dropped to 2m. Pulled up on chase debut (irregular heartbeat); Grade 2 hurdle winner is not written off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) ![]() Caldwell Potter |
4/6(+100%) | (1) Caldwell Potter 4/6, Quickly reached a smart level over hurdles for Gordon Elliott, winning Grade 1 at Leopardstown, and perfect start over fences for new connections (€740,000 buy) in 2m Carlisle novice chase. Advanced his form despite his defeat at Cheltenham 5 weeks ago and remains a smart prospect back over 2m. His bubble was burst somewhat at Cheltenham but he nevertheless holds leading claims today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) ![]() Personal Ambition |
5/1(+29%) | (3) Personal Ambition 5/1, Useful novice hurdler last season, winning 3 times at up to 19f. Good start over fences this term and ought to have won a Grade 2 at Ascot last month (2 lengths up and in control after making most when lost all momentum at the last). Clearly up to winning races in this sphere. May well have won Grade 2 novice at Ascot but for final-fence blunder; could have big say. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) ![]() You Wear It Well |
4/1(-20%) | (4) You Wear It Well 4/1, Won the Grade 2 Mares' Novice Hurdle at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival and has made a promising start over fences this time around, shaping best at Bangor and poorly placed at Warwick. Drops to 2m with more to offer in this sphere. Two Grade 2 wins over hurdles; open to improvement on third chase start, but it's needed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
CALDWELL POTTER arguably had his stamina tested too far when fading into third over 2m5f at Cheltenham last time and this drop in distance looks to be a good move. Paul Nicholls' seven-year-old sets the standard with a rating of 148 and if he can run to near that level, then he will prove very hard to beat. Gidleigh Park was reported to have an irregular heartbeat after running too bad to be true at Kempton on his seasonal return in November and is well worth another chance. You Wear It Well can beat Personal Ambition home for third.
A fascinating Grade 2 and a good chance for CALDWELL POTTER to get back on track. He advanced his form despite meeting with defeat at Cheltenham, when again jumping well in the main, and remains a top prospect for 2m chases. You Wear It Well has a bigger performance in her over fences and could be the danger.
The drop back in trip looks the right move for CALDWELL POTTER for the time being and he can regain the winning thread.

1st (5) ![]() Panic Attack |
15/8(+44%) | (5) Panic Attack 15/8, Three-time hurdles winner for David Pipe who shaped as if retaining all her ability back from 22 months off when third of 9 in handicap hurdle at Ludlow last month. Ran to a similar level at Newbury (16.3f, good to soft) subsequently and now reverts to the larger obstacles back up in trip. Well handicapped judged on her 2m4f chase form two winters back; plenty of ability remains. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) ![]() Mayhem Mya |
9/1(+18%) | (7) Mayhem Mya 9/1, Opened chase account at Exeter in December 2023 and having faced a stiff task back hurdling in a listed race at Auteuil in November, capitalised on her lower hurdles mark back on home soil back at Exeter (18.5f, soft) just over 4 weeks ago. Reverts to fences but not an obvious one to follow up. Stamina to prove still; won over hurdles last time and well treated on peak chase efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) ![]() Law Ella |
11/2(-83%) | (1) Law Ella 11/2, Has run well when making the frame all 3 starts this season, finishing with running left when third at Limerick (19.4f, soft) just under 3 weeks ago, not helped by some indifferent jumping but caught behind a weakening rival on home turn. Irish raider who warrants considerable respect. Flopped at Exeter last term but very solid record over fences in Ireland, at up to 2m6f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) ![]() Sacre Coeur |
22/1(+12%) | (2) Sacre Coeur 22/1, Three-time handicap chase winner last season and back to best when making all at Plumpton (25.7f, good to soft) in November. Went down all guns blazing at Kempton a week later but possibly found it one race too many after a busy spell at Hereford since. Bounce back required. Trailblazing front-runner who was in good form prior to pulling up at 25-1 last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) ![]() Ilovethenightlife |
5/1(+23%) | (3) Ilovethenightlife 5/1, A fairly useful winning hurdler who built on an encouraging chasing debut when landing a Kempton handicap in November. Found out in better company at Warwick (20f, soft) since but fancied to get back on track returned to a handicap. Running well but she may now prove ideally suited by a step back up from this trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (4) ![]() Game On For Glory |
10/1(-25%) | (4) Game On For Glory 10/1, Opened chase account at Ludlow last season and left reappearance behind in reapplied headgear when winning 13-runner handicap at Cheltenham (20.6f, good to soft) just under 5 weeks ago, knuckling down well to see off the pace making runner-up. Another bold bid anticipated from 5 lb higher. Clearcut win in a warm race at Cheltenham last time; less potent in second-time headgear?. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) ![]() Party Vibes |
7/2(-17%) | (6) Party Vibes 7/2, Won 2 mares' novices last season and shaped well in face of a stiff task on return/chase debut (runner-up in an Irish point) at Bangor in November. Confirmed that promise when landing the odds at Exeter (17.5f, soft) last month and open to further progress now handicapping. She did well as a novice hurdler last term and has now taken well to fences; bred to stay. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
PARTY VIBES made a pleasing start to life over fences when finishing third behind two smart mares in a warm race at Bangor on her penultimate start, before going two places better at Exeter last month. Stepping up in distance off what looks a workable mark, she gets the vote to land the spoils. Gavin Cromwell's runners should always be respected on these shores and Law Ella looks the main danger following a solid third over an extended 2m3f at Limerick. Panic Attack is also considered.
A case can be made for most of these, but the suggestion is PARTY VIBES, who dug deep to land the odds Exeter last month and Henry Daly's 7-y-o is open to further progress now handicapping in this sphere. Panic Attack has made a positive start for her new yard and, back up in trip/reverted to fences, she can give the selection most to think about, with Irish-raider Law Ella taken to edge out Ilovethenightlife for third.
The vote goes to PANIC ATTACK who can take a healthy step on her comeback trail now that she reverts to fences and 2m4f.

1st (2) ![]() Nemean Lion |
85/40(+65%) | (2) Nemean Lion 85/40, Smart performer who landed the Grade 2 Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton in February and has returned in rude health, runner-up at Sandown before adding to his tally in clear-cut fashion at Hereford (19.7f) last month, his class firmly telling. Respected for all this will definitely demand more. Stays 2m4f; admirable sort who should be bang there once again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) ![]() Salver |
4/1(-45%) | (3) Salver 4/1, Quickly made up into a smart juvenile last term, winning first 4 starts before finishing third in the Triumph Hurdle in March. Good fourth in Gerry Fielden on return and in process of running well when falling last in Relkeel at Cheltenham (20.2f)16 days ago. Still unexposed at this trip. Requires better form and better jumping but 2m4f+ might still hold the key. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) ![]() Blueking D'oroux |
5/2(0%) | (1) Blueking D'oroux 5/2, Smart hurdler who has ran right up to his best in pair of starts this winter, leaving the impression he was stretched by the trip when sixth of 10 in Grade 1 Long Walk at Ascot (24.4f) 4 weeks ago. Lead player on these terms returned to calmer waters. In good form this season and should be a big player in this contest back at 2m4f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) ![]() Iberico Lord |
5/2(+50%) | (4) Iberico Lord 5/2, Made up into a smart hurdler last term, winning a couple of big handicaps, including the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury. Hasn't convinced with his jumping despite winning first of 2 starts over fences this season but he could well resume progress back in this sphere. Won two big 2m handicaps in the mud thanks to his strength at the finish; 2m4f beckons. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) ![]() Langer Dan |
14/1(-115%) | (5) Langer Dan 14/1, Became the first dual winner of the Coral Cup at the Festival in March before solid placed efforts in Graded company. Hasn't yet fired in 2 starts this winter and his very best form has often come in the spring. Passed over on this occasion. Hard to beat on best form but this stage of the season is seemingly not his time to shine. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Blueking D'oroux was far from disgraced when fading into sixth in the Long Walk Hurdle over 3m at Ascot last month and, dropping back in trip with his sights lowered, he must enter calculations. That said, it may pay to side with IBERICO LORD. He landed the Greatwood Hurdle and Betfair Hurdle last term and, after not fully convincing with his jumping over fences last time, this smart hurdler can return to winning ways sent back over timber. Salver is also one for the shortlist.
Not for the first time, BLUEKING D'OROUX just seemed to find his stamina stretched late in the day but still emerged with credit when finishing midfield in the Longwalk at Ascot 4 weeks ago. He looks to hold sound claims with his sights lowered back down in trip. Nemean Lion will find this more demanding than his assignment at Hereford but is respected, whilst it's feasible to think Iberico Lord and Salver both have more to offer.
Salver and Iberico Lord remain fascinating propositions but slight preference is for NEMEAN LION and Blueking d'Oroux.

1st (13) ![]() Secret Squirrel |
11/4(+66%) | (13) Secret Squirrel 11/4, Landed a pair of 2m novice wins last season and built on solid comeback this term when in the process of running a cracker at Ascot 49 days ago, fared much the best of those who tracked strong pace, led home straight and only 2 lengths down when fell last. Big player if none the worse for that. Clear third when falling at final flight at Ascot; interesting contender off the same mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) ![]() Kabral Du Mathan |
7/2(+30%) | (3) Kabral Du Mathan 7/2, Progressive sort. Completed hat-trick when readily winning on handicap debut/reappearance in November. Nearly preserved his unbeaten record when narrowly denied in a valuable handicap at Ascot last month (beaten short-head, second of 12). That was a huge effort considering his lack of experience. Up 8lb for short-headed defeat at Ascot but this unexposed 5yo could continue to progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) ![]() Knickerbockerglory |
20/1(-100%) | (4) Knickerbockerglory 20/1, Winner on his reappearance the past three seasons, clearly best when fresh. Dominant victory on ground he loves (heavy) when winning at Sandown (16f) 41 days ago, dictated matters but won with plenty in hand. Respected but ground conditions and the run of the race may not be as favourable today. Comfortably made all on reappearance in small field at Sandown, but this is tougher. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (12) ![]() Navajo Indy |
6/1(+14%) | (12) Navajo Indy 6/1, Progressive sort who arrives here seeking a four-timer following a career-best when landing a nice pot at Newbury (16.3f, good to soft) 48 days ago, getting first run on runner-up and just kept up to his work late on. Clearly going in the right direction and should run well again. Completed hat-trick on handicap debut in competitive race at Newbury; key player up 8lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) ![]() Hardy Du Seuil |
33/1(+0%) | (9) Hardy Du Seuil 33/1, Career-best hurdles run (second of 8 at Carlisle, 17f, soft) on comeback last month, no chance with well-backed winner but clear of the third. Hasn't stood much racing in past few seasons, so needs to prove he can back that up and this is the most competitive hurdle race he's encountered in a while. Reappeared with fair second at Carlisle but this is hotter and others are more compelling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (11) ![]() Wreckless Eric |
15/2(+6%) | (11) Wreckless Eric 15/2, Confirmed the promise of his reappearance when winning a competitive 2m handicap at Cheltenham in November, receiving an 8 lb hike. Found himself out of his ground when second at the same venue last month, winner given too much rope. Up another 3 lb for that effort but can give another good account. Strong form in handicap hurdles at Cheltenham this season and he could continue to improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) ![]() Beat The Bat |
14/1(-75%) | (5) Beat The Bat 14/1, Bumper winner who quickly made up into a very useful hurdler last winter, scoring at Ascot (19f) before an excellent second in 2m Cheltenham novice. Back from 11 months off when good second of 14 in handicap hurdle at Haydock (18.9f, soft, 7/1) 49 days ago and remains low mileage and of interest. Good second at Haydock on handicap/seasonal debut and could have more left in the tank. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) ![]() Hansard |
10/1(-25%) | (2) Hansard 10/1, Smart hurdler who landed the Gerry Feilden at Newbury in December 2023. Looked to be carrying some condition prior to eye-catching comeback run when fourth of 8 at Kempton, travelled sweetly into home straight and not given hard time once chance had gone. That should put him spot on for this. Won good handicap at Newbury last season and could build on last month's comeback fourth. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (14) ![]() Tour Ovalie |
33/1(-32%) | (14) Tour Ovalie 33/1, Progressive mare who landed hat-trick with career-best when beating Break My Soul at Newbury (16.3f) 20 days ago, ridden-patiently, travelled well and delivered to lead in last 50 yds. Up 12 lb for that win and while she's earned a crack at this pot, it's a tough ask from 5 lbs out of the handicap. Completed hat-trick at Newbury last time but is 12lb higher in this hotter race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) ![]() Cracking Rhapsody |
25/1(-39%) | (6) Cracking Rhapsody 25/1, Big improver in handicaps in 2024 winning the Morebattle and finishing excellent third of 15 in the Scottish Champion Hurdle on final start. Disappointed in the Greatwood this season but back on track in a less competitive handicap hurdle at Kelso last month, won decisively. Each-way player. Won by 4l at Kelso last month; has a progressive profile but is back up in grade here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) ![]() Go Dante |
16/1(+20%) | (8) Go Dante 16/1, Winner of the Imperial Cup at Sandown (soft) in March but hasn't hit the same heights this season. Didn't respond to removal of headgear when pulled-up at Ascot 27 days ago, beaten a long way out. Cheekpieces back on but something to prove on recent evidence. Won the Imperial Cup last month but below par the last twice and has to get back on track. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (1) ![]() Brentford Hope |
18/1(-29%) | (1) Brentford Hope 18/1, Excellent strike rate over hurdles including brace of handicap wins in March. Solid start this season when second in Grade 2 Elite Hurdle at Wincanton (15.2f, good), chasing home race-fit rival. Strong-travelling sort will be well-suited to this test and gets vote of confidence from stable jockey. Thrived in handicaps last spring and could give a good account, despite his lofty mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (7) ![]() Givemefive |
28/1(-40%) | (7) Givemefive 28/1, One of three in the race for Harry Derham yard. Decent 1¼ lengths victory in class 2 hurdle at Cheltenham (16.4f, good) in October and ran to a similar level fourth of 7 in Mullinan Hurdle at Fairyhouse (16f, good) 48 days ago. Entitled to be competitive but may find a few too good. Plenty of good form in 4yo hurdles last year but has to prove he's up to this opening mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (10) ![]() Court In The Act |
28/1(-100%) | (10) Court In The Act 28/1, Well-backed on his return landing a handicap hurdle at Market Rasen (16.6f) by 8 lengths, made all, jumped fluently. Has shown some temperament but is clearly talented and not ruled out only sixth hurdles start for in-form yard, although stable jockey prefers Brentford Hope. Won easily at Market Rasen on reappearance; up in grade here but may take it in his stride. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
As expected with a decent pot on offer, this is wide open and only a tentative vote can go to NAVAJO INDY. The son of Nathaniel got off the mark over hurdles at Wincanton last April before returning to win under a penalty at Bangor in October. A mark of 120 proved lenient as he landed the Gerry Feilden at Newbury the following month and further progress could be forthcoming. Kabral Du Mathan lost his unbeaten record in a premier handicap at Ascot last month but that was another excellent performance and he's of obvious interest again, while others to note include Beat The Bat, Knickerbockerglory and Hansard.
HANSARD has a high cruising speed that should be suited to the demands of a well-run, big-field handicap and a very promising comeback effort suggests that Gary Moore's 7 y-o gelding could be as good as ever. He can land this valuable pot at the chief expense of Secret Squirrel who was still in the mix when taking a final flight tumble at Ascot, despite having helped force a strong pace. Of the remainder, progressive 5 y-os Wreckless Eric and Kabral Du Mathan can run well in a wide-open contest.
This could go SECRET SQUIRREL, who was running a fine race in a clear third when falling at the final flight at Ascot last month.

1st (6) ![]() Hasthing |
6/4(+45%) | (6) Hasthing 6/4, Fairly useful winning hurdler who confirmed promise of chasing debut when landing handicap at this course (20.2f, good to soft) in December, asserting final 1f. Major player with further improvement to come upped in trip. Won here (2m4f) last month, travelling best and finding plenty despite two late mistakes. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) ![]() Tyre Kicker |
18/1(-112%) | (4) Tyre Kicker 18/1, Won first 3 starts sent chasing back in 2022/23 and shaped encouragingly after 19-month absence when runner-up at Galway in October. Below form both outings since, but yard's runners in Britain have to be taken seriously. Good second at Galway (2m6f, soft) in October before two lesser efforts over 3m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (14) ![]() Hold Up La Colmine |
9/1(+10%) | (14) Hold Up La Colmine 9/1, Irish point winner who was a narrow winner on handicap hurdle bow at Sedgefield in March 2023. After 21 months off, matched that level when fifth of 14 at Hexham (20.1f, soft) on chase debut in December and is open to improvement in this sphere. 629 days off before an encouraging chase debut, despite errors; yard is in blinding form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) ![]() Es Perfecto |
18/1(-100%) | (5) Es Perfecto 18/1, Made it fifth time lucky in chases when capitalising on reduced mark at Kempton (20.5f, good to soft) on reappearance. Not in the same form returned to the same C&D 22 days ago, but he could bounce back with cheekpieces applied. Not so hot on Boxing Day; trip may well be manageable if back on song in first headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (13) ![]() Thor De Cerisy |
22/1(-38%) | (13) Thor De Cerisy 22/1, Back-to-back winner at Chepstow (both at 19.5f) last season and after a couple of lesser efforts he returned to form when runner-up in veterans event at Lingfield (20f, soft) in December, albeit no match for winner. This is tougher. Back to some form on latest outing but this 11yo goes for the first time beyond 2m4f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) ![]() Hititi |
15/2(-7%) | (1) Hititi 15/2, Developed into useful hurdler last season and has matched that level back over fences this season, bumping into one who has scored again since in handicap at Exeter (24.2f, soft) 29 days ago. Respected. Chalking up the seconds, in cheekpieces this term; minor honours again look his best hope. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) ![]() Do Your Job |
100/1(-150%) | (2) Do Your Job 100/1, Grade 2 winner as a novice. Low-key start to last season but back on scoresheet at Wetherby on Boxing Day 2023. However, just the one decent effort from 4 starts for this yard since, so he looks to be up against it. Cheekpieces back on. Has fired only once in his four starts for new yard; returning cheekpieces might help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (11) ![]() Red Rookie |
20/1(-11%) | (11) Red Rookie 20/1, Winless last season and went with little fluency when well-beaten fourth of 7 at Haydock (16.3f, heavy) on return. Has fallen further in the weights, but others still more persuasive as he goes back up in trip with visor reached for. 10yo who is 2-16 over fences with latest win in March 2023; different headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (10) ![]() Carbon King |
33/1(-50%) | (10) Carbon King 33/1, Three-time winner over hurdles in Ireland and landed 2 handicap chase victories for this yard last term. After a couple of runs over hurdles, not discredited back chasing at Ascot (18.8f, soft) 27 days ago, but will need to find more again. Very hit and miss last term but seems to be working his way back to form this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (8) ![]() Stormy Flight |
28/1(-180%) | (8) Stormy Flight 28/1, Successful twice at Exeter last season, including when tried in veterans company in March. With reappearance behind him, good second in handicap at the same course (19.2f, heavy) last time and he can give his running once more. 11yo who is 3-15 over fences; went close last time but this race looks too competitive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) ![]() Jupiter Du Gite |
9/2(+55%) | (3) Jupiter Du Gite 9/2, Not straightforward but opened chase account at second attempt at Uttoxeter in March last year. Runner-up at Fontwell on return, before reverting to his free-going ways when third at Sandown (24.2f, good to soft) last time. Has the ability to get involved. Headstrong front-runner; two places this term, latest when up from 2m4f to 3m at Newbury. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) ![]() Hugos New Horse |
12/1(-41%) | (7) Hugos New Horse 12/1, Five-time hurdle winner in 2022/23 campaign. Lost way subsequently but made promising chase debut when never-nearer second of 5 in handicap at Plumpton (19.8f, good to soft) in December. Merits consideration back up in trip. Close second of five at Plumpton (2m4f) last month on chase debut, staging a major rally. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) ![]() Ballycamus |
14/1(-56%) | (9) Ballycamus 14/1, Successful on chase debut at Chepstow last season and added to his tally at Warwick a year ago. Some good efforts in defeat since, before getting back to winning ways at this course (24.2f, good to soft) 33 days ago. Could be in the mix. Two wins at about 2m4f last winter; another over 3m here in a good scrap on latest outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) ![]() Jamaico |
25/1(-178%) | (12) Jamaico 25/1, Lightly raced and off the mark at third attempt over fences at Auteuil (17.4f) in June 2023, his final run for Emmanuel Clayeux. Changed hands for €310,000, before facing stiff task at Cheltenham when last seen 10 months ago. Makes handicap debut. 150-1 in Cheltenham Grade 1 on British debut; should be vastly more interesting in this. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
HASTHING shaped with promise over 2m on his chasing debut in November but a step up in trip appeared to hold the key to him as he recorded a comfortable victory over 2m4f here last time. Although 7lb higher, he is unlikely to have reached the ceiling of his ability yet and an extra two furlongs should be beneficial. Stormy Flight pushed an improver all the way at Exeter last month and is of interest off 1lb higher, along with the consistent Jupiter Du Gite.
HASTHING has made a promising start over fences this season, scoring with a bit in hand at this course on his latest outing, so he is taken to follow up with more still to offer as he goes up in distance. Hugos New Horse got back on track when runner-up on chase debut and is another potential improver in the line-up, with Hititi completing the shortlist.
While most can be given an each-way chance, HASTHING and Hold Up La Colmine seem to bring clearly the most potential.
Ths is the racecard key.
