Bertie Wooster |
(9) (5/1 +23%)5/1(+23%) | (9) Bertie Wooster 5/1, Improved effort over hurdles when second on 19f Taunton handicap debut and backed it up with a solid third at Chepstow. Should feature if he's tuned up after 6 months off. Placed over 2m3f in both handicaps; has a fighting chance if this drop back in trip suits. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Him Malaya |
(8) (6/1 -9%)6/1(-9%) | (8) Him Malaya 6/1, Improved effort for his top yard when second of 10 on 2m Ludlow handicap debut and not disgraced when third at Warwick since. Type to do better still this season, so merits plenty of respect. 0-5 over hurdles but began handicap career with two good runs in May; must be considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Getaway Tom |
(6) (10/3 +5%)10/3(+5%) | (6) Getaway Tom 10/3, Tongue strap on for 1st time, career best when winning 6-runner handicap hurdle (5/4) at Worcester (16f, soft) 30 days ago. Should go well again. Double his tally for the season when rallying well for Cameron Iles last month; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Shelikesthelights |
(5) (10/3 +26%)10/3(+26%) | (5) Shelikesthelights 10/3, Successful on sole outing in bumpers when trained by Joe Tizzard and has improved over hurdles for current yard, scoring at Doncaster and Southwell in the spring. Posted a respectable eighth in handicap hurdle at Ayr (16f, good) 6 months ago and needs considering after a wind op. Twice made all when fitted with tongue-tie in the spring; has scope for further progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Celtic Art |
(2) (11/1 -22%)11/1(-22%) | (2) Celtic Art 11/1, Useful winner on Flat and has made an encouraging start to his hurdle career, winning maiden/novice at this course at the beginning of 2023. Jumped poorly on handicap debut and wasn't at his best on the Flat recently. Dual C&D winner in novice company last season and could be on a good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
No No Tonic |
(4) (12/1 +0%)12/1(+0%) | (4) No No Tonic 12/1, Likeable mare who was in good order last winter, scoring twice at this course and making the frame on a couple of occasions at Chepstow in February. However, form tailed off thereafter and offered little over C&D on return. Dual C&D winner towards end of last season but has lost her way. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
West End Boy |
(11) (13/2 +13%)13/2(+13%) | (11) West End Boy 13/2, Westerner gelding who has only shown modest form to date over hurdles but appeals as the sort to do better now handicapping after a break. Second in C&D maiden in April; improvement is needed but possible on this handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Universal Secret |
(10) (25/1 -127%)25/1(-127%) | (10) Universal Secret 25/1, Belatedly got off the mark in a weak maiden hurdle over C&D in February and followed up back in handicap company 5 weeks later. Only seventh at Taunton next time but tongue tied for return, has had wind surgery and clearly goes well here. Came good with two C&D wins in February/March; off since below-par run in April; wind op. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Not Available |
(1) (25/1 -178%)25/1(-178%) | (1) Not Available 25/1, Useful chaser who shaped as if better for the run returned to this sphere at Chepstow recently. Others make more appeal. Six-time chaser; well held over hurdles this month but might come on for the run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Amelia's Dance |
(3) (33/1 -65%)33/1(-65%) | (3) Amelia's Dance 33/1, Added to an excellent record at Taunton when getting off the mark for the season there in December. However, lost his form subsequently and will probably need this. Ended last season with some tame efforts and returns with a point to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The lightly-raced Him Malaya has shown some promise since undergoing wind surgery back in January and is taken seriously on his return to action. Bertie Wooster has also looked progressive in five previous runs over hurdles and is noted dropping back in trip. However, GETAWAY TOM ticks the right boxes regarding both trip and ground and, with the tongue-tie/cheekpieces combination retained, he is taken to follow up last month's Worcester success off just 4lb higher.
GETAWAY TOM is finding his feet and showed a good attitude to open his account at Worcester last time, so he's worth a chance to follow up. Bertie Wooster should be on the premises and Him Malaya appeals as the type to do better this season.

King Of The Story |
(10) (4/1 +20%)4/1(+20%) | (10) King Of The Story 4/1, Joined current yard in the summer and left his previous efforts well behind to land 2m5f Fontwell handicap chase. Run best ignored (badly hampered and rider lost irons) at Plumpton next time and quickly back on track when second there on Monday. Considered. Makes quick reappearance after good second at Plumpton on Monday; should go well again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Concrete King |
(5) (7/1 -8%)7/1(-8%) | (5) Concrete King 7/1, Modest maiden hurdler/chaser but has slipped to an attractive mark and not taken lightly in this field. Second over fences in February 2022 but returns from summer break with a bit to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Kraqueline |
(2) (7/2 +46%)7/2(+46%) | (2) Kraqueline 7/2, Showed fair form when reaching the frame in a couple of bumpers and best effort over hurdles last season when fifth of 10 in handicap at Ascot (23.5f, good to soft, 6/1) final start. Off 7 months. Drop back in trip is a concern on chase debut. 0-5 over hurdles last season but her Ascot fifth in April was a good effort; chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lock Out |
(1) (7/2 +22%)7/2(+22%) | (1) Lock Out 7/2, Bumper/novice hurdle winner first 2 starts. Didn't kick on after but type to make a chaser (off mark in Irish points at second attempt). Has undergone a breathing operation and wears first-time cheekpieces/tongue strap on this chasing debut. Did not kick on from last year's winning hurdle debut but still a good chasing prospect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Belgarum |
(6) (8/1 -7%)8/1(-7%) | (6) Belgarum 8/1, Runner-up on handicap debut at Fontwell in March and backed it up with a solid fifth at Plumpton. Looked rusty after 6 months off at Fontwell and now goes chasing. Ran well in two handicap hurdles at end of last season and made satisfactory reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Testflight |
(11) (9/1 +44%)9/1(+44%) | (11) Testflight 9/1, Poor maiden hurdler who offered little sent chasing at Stratford last time and 4 lb out of the handicap here. Often well backed but weakened quickly on recent chasing debut and is now 0-13. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Astroman |
(8) (11/1 -120%)11/1(-120%) | (8) Astroman 11/1, Belatedly off the mark (fortunate winner) in maiden hurdle at Stratford in May and followed up under a penalty at Fontwell. Respectable second off reduced mark back over fences at Wincanton 10 days ago and is unexposed in this sphere. Ran game race in defeat here (3m1f) ten days ago; others have more potential, though. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Leissieres Express |
(3) (12/1 +33%)12/1(+33%) | (3) Leissieres Express 12/1, Found improvement in this sphere when fourth of 15 in 2m Chepstow novice in November but well below par next 2 starts 4 months apart. Off 6 months. Makes chase debut. Had some issues over hurdles last season but there is ability lurking; chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Invictus Allen |
(9) (22/1 -83%)22/1(-83%) | (9) Invictus Allen 22/1, Placed on the second of his 2 runs between the flags but comfortably held all 3 starts over hurdles. Makes handicap/chase debut. Made low-key start to rules career over hurdles; likely to be more competitive over fences. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
KING OF THE STORY was unfortunate to encounter a progressive type when a good second at Plumpton on Monday and could be hard to beat if this race doesn't come around too soon. It was a modest event in which Astroman finished second here 10 days ago, so David Pipe's chasing debutant Lock Out may be the one to give the selection the most to think about in a race where winning form over fences is thin on the ground.
A weak affair but KING OF THE STORY arrives in good form and can put his chase experience to good use. Lock Out looks best of the chasing newcomers, while Concrete King has slipped to an attractive mark.

Liari |
(5) (0.8/1 +20%)0.8/1(+20%) | (5) Liari 0.8/1, Ran to a fairly useful level in just 3 races on Flat in France for Jean-Claude Rouget, winning maiden at Toulouse (10.4f) in March. Noteworthy recruit to hurdling for powerful yard in what looks a pretty ordinary race. 1m2f Flat winner in France in March; with top stable for British hurdling career. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Whispering Royal |
(9) (3.5/1 +0%)3.5/1(+0%) | (9) Whispering Royal 3.5/1, Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler/chaser Mont Royale (2m-21f winner) and fair hurdler Modulus (2m-2½m winner). Fair winner on Flat, shaping as if he would stay 1½m, and he's an interesting contender now hurdling. 2yo winner in Ireland and placed for Alan King this year; yard does well in this division. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Inside Man |
(4) (5/1 +23%)5/1(+23%) | (4) Inside Man 5/1, Third foal, half-brother to fairly useful French hurdler Great Escape (17f-19f winner). Dam, hurdle winner in France, half-sister to fairly useful French chaser (21f winner) Short Cut and fairly useful French 17f hurdle winner Gunflight out of French 15f-2¼m hurdle winner Segre. Half-brother to a French hurdle winner; yard's newcomers sometimes go well in these races. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Star Of Sussex |
(7) (10/1 +0%)10/1(+0%) | (7) Star Of Sussex 10/1, Fair maiden on Flat, stays 1¼m, below form last time. Can make presence felt at this level if taking to obstacles. Became disappointing on the Flat this year; switches to hurdling with a lot to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Kilcummin |
(1) (16/1 -113%)16/1(-113%) | (1) Kilcummin 16/1, Fair maiden on the Flat who left previous hurdles form well behind when springi9ng a surprise at Fontwell 3 weeks ago. Well ridden on that occasion and all out come the line so he's probably vulnerable under a penalty. Recorded 50-1 win at Fontwell this month; has penalty to carry in stronger race here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Stray Bullet |
(8) (22/1 -57%)22/1(-57%) | (8) Stray Bullet 22/1, Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler Barrua (17f/2¼m winner). Fair winner on Flat in France for Simone Brogi, winning twice at up to 9.2f. Easy to draw a line through hurdles debut and this will reveal a lot more. French Flat winner; not much went to plan on hurdling debut; can do much better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Rebecca West |
(11) (50/1 +50%)50/1(+50%) | (11) Rebecca West 50/1, Sold from John & Thady Gosden 4,000 gns in July and shaped as though in need of the outing sent hurdles at Ludlow 18 days ago. Soundly beaten when 200-1 for recent hurdling debut at Ludlow. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Al Sayah |
(10) (50/1 +0%)50/1(+0%) | (10) Al Sayah 50/1, Displayed a little ability on the level for John S. O'Donoghue but beaten a long way on debut over timber at Ludlow. Well down the field in a fillies' race on recent hurdling debut at Ludlow. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Biscoff Joe |
(2) (80/1 -186%)80/1(-186%) | (2) Biscoff Joe 80/1, Half-brother to fair hurdler Tara Iti (2m-2¼m winner, by Sixties Icon). Modest maiden at best on Flat and looks a basement-level handicap project over obstacles. Has not shown much on his two hurdling starts this autumn. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
What An Icon |
(12) (150/1 -50%)150/1(-50%) | (12) What An Icon 150/1, Poor maiden on Flat and soon beaten on hurdles debut. Ran well to a point on recent hurdling debut but was well beaten in the end. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Pigeonton |
(6) (150/1 -200%)150/1(-200%) | (6) Pigeonton 150/1, Last of 5 on Flat debut and pulled up having reportedly suffered a breathing problem on hurdles bow in race won by Kilcummin. Tongue strap applied. Last of five on Flat debut in July and also struggled on recent stable/hurdle debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Paul Nicholls has traditionally enjoyed a terrific strike-rate with his recruits from France and can again prove the worth of the sourcing process if LIARI hits the ground running on his hurdles debut. The winner of an extended 10f maiden on the level at Toulouse, the son of Cracksman is sure to have been primed for the switch in codes and holds the most intrigue. Surprise Fontwell winner Kilcummin is vulnerable under a penalty, so fellow ex-Flat racer Whispering Royal may be the main danger to the selection.
It's easy to envisage hurdling newcomers dominating this, with LIARI, a recruit from France, expected to be well prepared for this given the yard he represents. Whispering Royal is the obvious threat, with Stray Bullet also of some interest.
Paul Nicholls' new recruit LIARI ran to a fairly useful level when winning on the Flat in France in March and is given the vote.

Lowry's Bar |
(4) (2/1 +88%)2/1(+88%) | (4) Lowry's Bar 2/1, Second sole start in Irish points (Feb 12). One of 3 runners for his stable and interesting to see what the betting makes of him. Second in a slow-ground Irish point in February; may need a stiffer stamina test than this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Panjari |
(5) (3/1 -100%)3/1(-100%) | (5) Panjari 3/1, Useful on Flat (stays 1½m) in Germany. Could only manage fifth when a short-priced favourite on his Chepstow hurdle debut 16 days ago. Hood reached for on the back of that. His Flat ability suggests he could leave that opening hurdle run well behind. Smart on the Flat in Germany; disappointing favourite on hurdle debut but can do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Perfect Nelson |
(9) (9/4 +25%)9/4(+25%) | (9) Perfect Nelson 9/4, Fair form when twice runner-up in bumpers in Ireland for Peter Fahey in May. Should be up to making his presence felt in a race like this now hurdling for a new stable. Second in two Irish bumpers in the spring, latterly behind an exciting horse; hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Champetre |
(1) (13/2 +46%)13/2(+46%) | (1) Champetre 13/2, Fair form in bumpers for Harry Whittington last season. Has a first-time tongue tie added to his regular cheekpieces now hurdling on return. Made the frame in two of his three bumpers last season; each-way claims on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Contramar |
(3) (16/1 -33%)16/1(-33%) | (3) Contramar 16/1, £36,000 Blue Bresil gelding. Half-brother to bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler It's Probably Me and poor hurdler The Wild Wild Sea. Well worth a market check. Out of a half-sister to some useful jumpers; entitled to benefit from this debut run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mollie De Mai |
(16) (16/1 +43%)16/1(+43%) | (16) Mollie De Mai 16/1, Mahler filly. Dam, winning hurdler in France, half-sister to useful dual bumper winner/fairly useful 2m hurdle winner Leave of Absence. Some paper appeal and interesting to see what the betting makes of her. First foal from a fairly useful French 1m7f hurdle winner; worth a glance in the betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Clinton Lane |
(2) (33/1 -136%)33/1(-136%) | (2) Clinton Lane 33/1, Improved effort when third in a C&D maiden (soft) 10 days ago but the form is only modest. Vastly improved form when 200-1 third over C&D ten days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Thurley |
(11) (40/1 -60%)40/1(-60%) | (11) Thurley 40/1, Bred to have a future but no short-term encouragement on his bumper debut in March. Half-brother to two useful jumpers but well beaten when 50-1 for Kempton bumper in March. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ticking Tom Bomb |
(6) (40/1 -43%)40/1(-43%) | (6) Ticking Tom Bomb 40/1, Unplaced on his completed start in points. Makes his hurdling debut as a 7-y-o. Best watched unless the betting strongly hints otherwise. Didn't show a great deal in his two points; makes rules debut after 637-day absence. |

Theweddingcanwait |
(18) (80/1 -100%)80/1(-100%) | (18) Theweddingcanwait 80/1, Placed in a pair of Worcester bumpers this summer (for Fergal O'Brien first occasion) but dropped away quickly when pulled up on her recent Exeter hurdle debut. Has a hood added to the tongue tie she wore on that occasion. Pulled up in modest mares' race on recent hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Guinessed |
(13) (80/1 -21%)80/1(-21%) | (13) Guinessed 80/1, Modest form in bumpers. Makes hurdle debut after 6 months off. Best to look elsewhere. Fifth in all three bumpers last season, showing only minor promise;. |

Nomoreblackjack |
(17) (100/1 -52%)100/1(-52%) | (17) Nomoreblackjack 100/1, Third on first of 2 start in points but achieved next to nothing when a distant fifth in a Fontwell bumper on her Rules debut 22 days ago. Struggled in Fontwell bumper on recent rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Captain Marco |
(8) (100/1 -25%)100/1(-25%) | (8) Captain Marco 100/1, Brother to hurdler Champagne Auction, stays 25f. Dam (h82) 2¼m hurdle winner, also 1¾m-2m winner on Flat. Probably best to look elsewhere. Brother to a low-grade hurdle winner; unlikely to meet the standard required on debut. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
PANJARI comes with risks attached having looked fractious in the preliminaries before finishing fifth on his hurdling debut at Chepstow. However, it's too early to be writing off Paul Nicholls' gelding, with the addition of a first-time hood expected to help settle him. Perfect Nelson has posted some creditable runner-up efforts in Irish bumpers and warrants respect entering this sphere on his stable bow. Lowry's Bar boasts a pointing background and may fare best of the remainder.
Plenty of runners but not a race with much obvious depth to it so another chance can be given to useful Flat recruit PANJARI to show he can cut the mustard over hurdles. Perfect Nelson showed plenty in bumpers in Ireland and is second choice now switching to hurdles for new trainer Jeremy Scott. Irish point recruits Lowry's Bar and Siam Park are others who could have a say.

Killer Kane |
(5) (5/2 +38%)5/2(+38%) | (5) Killer Kane 5/2, Impressed when landing a gamble at Kempton in February and continued in good heart subsequently, signing last season off with a fine third in the 29-runner Topham Chase at Aintree, so merits respect back up in trip. Creditable third over big Aintree fences in April; contender if tuned up after break. |

Moroder |
(1) (9/1 -200%)9/1(-200%) | (1) Moroder 9/1, Completed 4-timer in 2021/22 and resumed his progress when landing the Grimthorpe Chase at Doncaster in March. Produced a career best when a rallying runner-up in the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown when last seen and he's much respected with stamina assured. Excellent second in major Sandown handicap in April; record when fresh is not compelling. |

Enrilo |
(4) (9/2 +36%)9/2(+36%) | (4) Enrilo 9/2, Smart sort at his best and has slipped down the weights, but far more letters than numbers in his recent form figures and can't really be viewed as a reliable betting proposition at present. Completed only one of three races last season; current ability hard to gauge. |

Coconut Splash |
(7) (10/3 +63%)10/3(+63%) | (7) Coconut Splash 10/3, Long been expensive to follow over fences and finished well held on his return to action at Worcester (23f, soft, 10/1) 30 days ago. Has slipped in the weights but others are more persuasive. Shaped as though in need of the outing last month and has slipped to a tempting mark. |

Musical Slave |
(6) (16/1 -14%)16/1(-14%) | (6) Musical Slave 16/1, Landed veterans' chase at Exeter in February but pulled up in stronger events on his next 2 outings. Remains on a mark he can prove competitive from, but has never been the most reliable conveyance and others are preferred. Pulled up twice since win off this mark in February but might have been refreshed by break. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
KILLER KANE was far from disgraced in premier handicaps at Aintree and Kempton following his victory at the latter venue in early February. Joe Tizzard's charge should appreciate the return to class 3 company and he is fancied to make his seasonal return a winning one. Moroder finishing a fine second in the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown after winning the Grimthorpe at Doncaster and shouldn't be far away if running to a similar level, with last-time-out course winner Switch Hitter completing the shortlist.
MORODER finished last season in fine heart, winning the Grimthorpe Chase before finding only a well-in rival too good in the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown, so looks as if he'll take plenty of beating if picking up where he left off. Switch Hitter remains unexposed as a handicap chaser and is also of interest, whilst Killer Kane was thriving late last season and is another player if proving as good over this extended trip.

(5) (8/1 +20%)8/1(+20%) | (5) Sheldon 8/1, Bagged his second chase win at Exeter on New Year's Day and in good nick since, sticking to his task despite a few mistakes when third at Kempton in April. Wasted what looked a good opportunity when seeming sure to win (fell heavily last) at Stratford in May and now makes return over timber. Best chase efforts make this look a very good mark if all's okay on first run since May. |

Oscars Moonshine |
(1) (9/4 -13%)9/4(-13%) | (1) Oscars Moonshine 9/4, Finally took advantage of a falling mark in first-time cheekpieces when winning over C&D 6 months ago and proved better than ever in following up on seasonal return at Kempton last week (eased close home). Carries penalty and that may not be enough to prevent the hat-trick. Did it easily at Kempton last week, so should go well under his penalty in hat-trick bid.. |

Lady Kk |
(6) (10/1 +38%)10/1(+38%) | (6) Lady Kk 10/1, Hurdles winner who justified support to win her first chase in 4-runner handicap at Taunton in March, responding well to first-time headgear. Ran too badly to be true and reportedly had a breathing problem next time and makes return over the smaller obstacles (had a wind op). Took well to fences last term until a respiratory noise on final start; wind surgery since. |

Great Ocean |
(12) (11/1 +31%)11/1(+31%) | (12) Great Ocean 11/1, Sole Rules success came over hurdles at this track in January 2022 for Philip Hobbs. Not the most consistent for his current yard, running poorly at Huntingdon (19.6f, good) 6 months ago, so will need to hit the ground running on return. C&D third in April; tailed off in May when last seen but chance if he returns refreshed. |

Bashers Reflection |
(4) (11/2 +21%)11/2(+21%) | (4) Bashers Reflection 11/2, Improved performer switched to handicaps last season, supplementing his Fakenham victory in March with another decisive success at Plumpton (20.5f) a month later. Remains relatively lightly raced and he may have more to offer this term. 3-5 in handicaps; raised a further 5lb for this reappearance but one to note. |

Below-par fourth in handicap at Exeter (16.7f, heavy) following month but he remains with potential on his return. Runaway winner from the front in 2m4f maiden here in March; not so good in April handicap. |

Solid if unspectacular efforts since, but she underperformed back down in grade when last seen at Ffos Las 6 months ago and has left Fergal O'Brien. 7l Hereford win (2m3f) in November 2022; two respectable efforts among five starts since. |

Balko Saint |
(3) (17/2 +15%)17/2(+15%) | (3) Balko Saint 17/2, Dual winner over hurdles and unlucky to bump into a thriving rival when claiming a fourth successive runner-up finish over fences at Newton Abbot (21f, good) 5 months ago. Could well have a say in proceedings on seasonal return reverted to hurdles. Runner-up in February-June on last four starts over fences, with a below-form hurdles run. |

Morfee |
(10) (25/1 -56%)25/1(-56%) | (10) Morfee 25/1, Opened his account back over hurdles in at Plumpton in March 2022 and followed up with relative ease at Newton Abbot (26.5f, good) a month later. Not seen since but does return off the same mark. Needs keeping an eye on. Last seen winning two handicap hurdles (3m/3m2f) but that was in the spring of 2022. |

Seignor Gringo |
(7) (33/1 -175%)33/1(-175%) | (7) Seignor Gringo 33/1, Off the mark over hurdles in claimer at Argentan last November and runner-up on only start for P. Lenogue at Cagnes-Sur-Mer (16.9f, soft) a month later. Not seen since, so it will be interesting to see what the market makes of him on handicap/yard debut. Three trainers during six-race French career, winning a 2m2f hurdle race last November. |

Bring The Action |
(16) (40/1 -43%)40/1(-43%) | (16) Bring The Action 40/1, Sole success came in Wetherby handicap chase (24.2f) early in 2022 and last seen running below form back over hurdles in novice at Exeter (21.6f, soft) 7 months ago. Others make more appeal for win purposes. Runner-up over fences in November (3m2f, good) first time out last term; below form after. |

Atholl Street |
(14) (100/1 -52%)100/1(-52%) | (14) Atholl Street 100/1, Maiden/novice hurdle winner at Taunton in late-2020 but it's been a struggle since, including in 5 starts for current yard this spring. Impossible to fancy. Five starts for this yard, failing to finish two chases and tailed off in 3 hurdle races. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Now two from two in cheekpieces and under Olive Nicholls having won comfortably at Kempton last weekend, a 7lb penalty might not be enough to stop the Paul Nicholls-trained OSCARS MOONSHINE. He is preferred to Bashers Reflection, who bids for a hat-trick after a double in the spring and should go well if he's fully wound up for his return. Balko Saint and Seignor Gringo are others to consider.
A big field but it's hard to ignore the claims of OSCARS MOONSHINE, who had more to spare than the bare margin would indicate at Kempton last week and Paul Nicholls' 8-y-o is fancied to bring up the hat-trick and remain unbeaten when partnered by his daughter Olive. Balko Saint makes his seasonal return from a much-reduced mark back over timber, so he's put forward as the main threat, ahead of Mikhailovich, who was an impressive winner at Huntingdon on return earlier this month.
Preference is for BASHERS REFLECTION who has more wins in him given the authority with which he obliged on his last two runs last term.

Flash Gorcombe |
(5) (3/1 -20%)3/1(-20%) | (5) Flash Gorcombe 3/1, Confirmed the promise of his chase debut at the second attempt when winning Taunton handicap in March. Scored again at this C&D the following month and continued in good heart when runner-up at Ludlow in May. Enters calculations. Progressive in the spring; big chance if returning on song after his summer break. |

William Ewart |
(6) (4/1 +11%)4/1(+11%) | (6) William Ewart 4/1, Much more like it switched to handicaps over hurdles, getting off the mark in convincing fashion at Bangor (23f) in March. Has yet to match that form in 2 starts over fences, though shaped as if needing the run at Bangor earlier this month. Remains with potential. His good runs over hurdles last term were over 2m7f and 3m2f; beaten 30l in two chases. |

Ballymagee |
(4) (5/2 +17%)5/2(+17%) | (4) Ballymagee 5/2, Modest form at best over hurdles but, on his second start for his current yard, showed more than on his previous 2 outings over fences when third in handicap at Ffos Las 2 weeks ago, despite a bad mistake 4 out. Leading contender. Mostly modest under rules but third of seven at Ffos Las (2m) last time gives him a squeak. |

Boston Joe |
(3) (7/2 +30%)7/2(+30%) | (3) Boston Joe 7/2, Showed improved form switched to handicap chases in 2022, recording back-to-back wins at Ffos Las in May. However, below form on his subsequent 3 outings, having issues with his jumping, so he has a bit to prove after 14 months off. Not seen since out of form in August 2022 but he's well handicapped if returning on song. |

Princess Midnight |
(1) (13/2 +0%)13/2(+0%) | (1) Princess Midnight 13/2, Front runner who won 3 times over fences in 2022 and just as good when runner-up on first 2 outings this season. After a spin over hurdles, jumped markedly right at Fontwell last time, though is usually a sound jumper so could get back on track. This should be a competitive mark but a note of caution has been sounded recently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fanzio |
(2) (40/1 +0%)40/1(+0%) | (2) Fanzio 40/1, Ended time with Richard Hobson with success at Taunton in March but form has gone the wrong way for his current yard, faring no better after 11 weeks off (had a wind op) when pulled up last time. Best watched. Badly out of sorts on last six starts; had wind surgery before latest. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Consistency might hold the key to this contest and with that in mind, preference is for FLASH GORCOMBE. Robert Walford's charge hit the woodwork as he went in search of a hat-trick at Ludlow last time but, against some largely out-of-form rivals, a similar effort might suffice. William Ewart takes a significant drop in trip and might fare better now eased 3lb in the ratings, while Ballymagee completes the shortlist.
BALLYMAGEE left the impression he should have finished closer when third at Ffos Las a fortnight ago, in the lead when making a bad mistake 4 out, so he can build on that to open his account. Flash Gorcombe showed improved form switched to chasing last season and is feared most, ahead of William Ewart.
This probably depends on the readiness of FLASH GORCOMBE who makes easily most appeal on his progressive performances in the spring.
Ths is the racecard key.
