(2) Bethpage 11/4, Progressive mare who completed the hat-trick in good style at Southwell in June. Good efforts in defeat on her next couple of starts but ran too badly to be true when tailed-off last of 12 to Larchmont Lass at this course (21.4f, good) back in November. Bounce back needed (has had a wind op).
Did well over shorter trip last year but absent since disappointing run here in November.

Let down by her jumping when third at Sandown a month later and put together another error-strewn round without her usual hood at Kempton (24.6f, good to soft) when last seen 3 months ago. Leap of faith required.
Below form at Kempton Christmas meeting but landed a good prize here (2m5f) in November.

(3) Briefly 7/4, Steadily progressive in bumpers and is following a similar path over hurdles, coming good in 19.5f Bangor maiden at the end of June. Ran well switched to a handicap in a tongue strap after 6 months off when second over C&D (soft) just over 5 weeks ago and every chance she can go one better.
Close/clear second to a next-time-out winner over C&D on last month's handicap debut.

14:30 Wincanton Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 25f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Briefly finished 12 lengths clear of the third when hitting the woodwork over C&D and is likely to be thereabouts. However, a 6lb rise looks harsh and might open the door for LARCHMONT LASS. Paul Nicholls' mare ran too badly to be true as favourite when a well-beaten seventh at Kempton in December, but she is fresh from a break and could take advantage of the drop in grade. Bethpage isn't out of it based on her second at Ludlow two starts ago.

Preference is for BRIEFLY, who ran a cracker on return/handicap debut when runner-up to a subsequent winner over C&D last month and Anthony Honeyball's 5-y-o can go one better at the expense of Larchmont Lass, who was let down by her jumping on both starts in December but should find this assignment easier. Bethpage has had a wind operation since last seen and needs to get back on track.

Anthony Honeyball's BRIEFLY (nap) bumped into a much-improved subsequent winner when second over C&D last month and gets the nod today.

15:00 Wincanton Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 21f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

SHENGAI ENKI made the frame at Market Rasen earlier in the month and the handicapper might have been kind to leave his mark alone. The six-year-old has lots in his favour and could make it two wins out of his last three outings. Mr Mackay was beaten into fifth at Doncaster, but he could improve for this step up in distance and has to be considered. George Henry can beat Rascal home for third.

MR MACKAY has been performing with credit all season and although he's yet to prove his stamina for this trip, it may well be within his reach on drying ground in a small field. He's taken to land this 4-runner event from a career-low handicap mark, with the consistent and versatile Shengai Enki next best. George Henry is an interesting contender over this longer trip on handicap debut, while Rascal has claims on last season's form, but arguably has the most to prove of the quartet.

The suggestion is RASCAL, who returned from a layoff with a satisfactory 2m run last month and is unexposed over this sort of trip.

15:30 Wincanton Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 15f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

ZAOCHEN ENKI finished second on his sole start in France and now has his first outing for the Paul Nicholls team. The juvenile is related to plenty of winners and it would be no surprise to see him make an instant impression. Disguisedlimit has shown ability in each of his three appearances over hurdles and would be foolish to dismiss. Bara Tara is another to note.

French-recruit ZAOCHEN ENKI should prove very hard to beat on his British debut, with Disguisedlimit the obvious one to follow him home.

Paul Nicholls' new recruit ZAOCHEN ENKI came second over hurdles in France last summer and is taken to strike on his British debut.

16:00 Wincanton Handicap Chase (Class 4) 25f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

SPACE VOYAGE bounced back to form in no uncertain terms when bolting up in first-time blinkers at Market Rasen. Olly Murphy's charge must shoulder a penalty but a couple of her rivals arrive with something to prove, and Beau Morgan's 5lb claim will ease the burden. The consistent Moviddy should keep the selection honest, while Getbazoutofhere drops in class having been pulled up at Fakenham in January and appeals most of the remaining pair.

SPACE VOYAGE has taken very well to fences this calendar year and she looks capable of defying a penalty given how much she had in hand at Market Rasen last week. It shouldn't be long before Moviddy breaks her duck over fences, but she may find a progressive rival too strong for the third consecutive outing.

A chance is taken with GETBAZOUTOFHERE who was pulled up last time but has bounced back form a similar performance before.

16:30 Wincanton Handicap Chase (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Jaramillo finished a creditable third on his chasing bow at Southwell and is likely to prove popular with progress on the cards, but a chance can be taken on SOMESPRING SPECIAL. Her last few performances haven't been anything to write home about, but she starts out for the Philip Hobbs and Johnson White team from a competitive mark. She has gone well fresh and ground conditions will be no problem. Pepe Le Moko is also noted.

Not the easiest race to asess and it could be worth siding with the returning SOMESPRING SPECIAL to capitalise on a handy mark now starting out with the in-form Philip Hobbs and Johnson White team. Jaramillo rates the pick of the remaining trio if, as expected, building on an encouraging chasing debut third at Southwell.

The one with least to prove is JARAMILLO, who is not bred for fences but made a pretty good start to his chasing career in December.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Third seemed unlikely for MACH TEN when under pressure before four out at Taunton, so it was to his credit that he was able to stay on in the closing stages. Talented conditional Callum Pritchard takes off a handy 5lb and, with a visor applied for the first time, it would come as no surprise were he to find the necessary improvement. Flash In The Pan should benefit from a stiffer test of stamina on his handicap bow and must enter the reckoning along with Breccia, who wasn't disgraced on the Flat latest.

In a modest event, GORCOMBE MOONSHINE may well be suited by stepping up in trip and he can bounce back from a rare disappointing effort to record his first hurdles success. Breccia is lightly-raced in this sphere and wouldn't need to improve much to take a hand in the finish, while Mach Ten could well have more to offer now fitted with a first-time visor.

Preference is for ALBERT PARK, who is quite well handicapped on last spring's 2m form and might have needed his recent run.

There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.

The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.

In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses.
