The Same |
(2) (6/5 -9%)6/5(-9%) | (2) The Same 6/5, Low-mileage 6-y-o who scored on hurdles debut at Market Rasen (20.6f) in March prior to pair of in-the-frame efforts. Jumped accurately and ran out an impressive winner on chase debut at aforementioned venue in November and looks destined for better things. Should stay (winning Irish pointer). Won in fine style on chase debut and could still be well treated even after a 9lb rise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Twinjets |
(1) (8/11 +9%)8/11(+9%) | (1) Twinjets 8/11, Dual bumper winner who attained a useful level over hurdles, winning 3 times at up to 21f for Milton Harris. All the better for chase bow when making a winning debut for this yard at Doncaster 12 days ago, looking better than ever. Open to further improvement as a chaser. Easy win at Doncaster recently on first run for Paul Nicholls; 9lb rise might not stop him. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
TWINJETS made the perfect start to life under the tutelage of Paul Nicholls when landing the spoils in taking fashion at Doncaster. The handicapper has had his say by putting the six-year-old up 9lb, but there should be more to come from him over this distance. The Same created a deep impression on his chasing bow when justifying favouritism at Market Rasen and can give the selection plenty to think about.
Hard to split THE SAME and Twinjets who both ran out impressive winners over fences last time, the former shading the vote.
Narrow preference is for TWINJETS, who is taken to make it 2-2 for Paul Nicholls, but The Same could also still be well treated.

Clovis Boy |
(3) (4/1 -20%)4/1(-20%) | (3) Clovis Boy 4/1, Built on his handicap debut fourth of 19 on reappearance when seeing off 7 rivals over 2½m in the mud at Hexham last month. Should be more to come from him now stepping up to 3m. Won at Hexham (2m4f, heavy) last month and open to further improvement now up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Shewearsthewellies |
(1) (4/1 -29%)4/1(-29%) | (1) Shewearsthewellies 4/1, Has a quirky side, but it isn't stopping her at present, winning 3 of her 4 starts since switching to handicap hurdles. A further 6 lb rise makes life harder but further progress can't be discounted. Thriving mare who is 3-4 in handicaps and holds strong claims once more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
It's Maisy |
(6) (9/2 +0%)9/2(+0%) | (6) It's Maisy 9/2, Fortunate winner of a 5-runner novice at Sedgefield in April but no luck about her 23f Market Rasen handicap success 3 weeks ago. Unexposed as a stayer and much respected off 4 lb higher. Stayed on strongly for 2m7f soft-ground win on handicap debut; could have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Abbeyhill |
(8) (11/2 -22%)11/2(-22%) | (8) Abbeyhill 11/2, Irish point winner who landed a gamble in 7-runner handicap at Plumpton (25f, soft, 4/1) last month, suited by the increase test of stamina. Backed that up when second at Taunton (3m) 10 days later. Another 5 lb higher here but still respected. Has a progressive profile over staying trips and could be bang there. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Knacker Trapper |
(4) (12/1 -40%)12/1(-40%) | (4) Knacker Trapper 12/1, Modest in bumpers and similar standard in novice hurdles at up to 2½m. More chance now handicapping and he's bred to be suited by this longer trip. Could be suited by the step up in trip on h'cap debut but he's not obviously well treated. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Eveque |
(11) (14/1 +28%)14/1(+28%) | (11) Eveque 14/1, Poor maiden but was third over fences at Newcastle last month and yet to be asked for effort when unseating 3 out at Hexham since. Reverts to hurdles now. 9yo who remains a maiden but is on a competitive mark on his best chase form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Perculator |
(2) (18/1 -17%)18/1(-17%) | (2) Perculator 18/1, Bumper winner but yet to really kick on over hurdles. Should be sharper for last month's Newcastle reappearance, though, and being dropped a further 2 lb can only help. Edging down the weights but the first-time cheekpieces need to prompt some improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
You Say Its Over |
(9) (18/1 -67%)18/1(-67%) | (9) You Say Its Over 18/1, Still looking for first success but has been runner-up over 3m at Hexham on her last 2 outings. This looks more competitive so perhaps playing for minor honours at best again. Runner-up the last twice but well beaten most recently and others may have her measure. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Oliver's Island |
(13) (20/1 +0%)20/1(+0%) | (13) Oliver's Island 20/1, Returned to winning ways with a narrow success at Market Rasen last December. Not in the same form since, but now 5 lb below that winning mark so dangerous if staging a revival. Below par on final two runs last season and same story on his two outings this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Amber Gold |
(7) (20/1 +10%)20/1(+10%) | (7) Amber Gold 20/1, Modest maiden who weakened to finish well held on her 21f course reappearance in October. Still relatively unexposed but others arrive with much more pressing claims. Returns from long absence but she's very lightly raced and might not be a forlorn hope. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
My Strong Man |
(10) (25/1 -106%)25/1(-106%) | (10) My Strong Man 25/1, Poor maiden handicap hurdler who was well held at Newcastle last month. Others are more obvious. Twice finished second earlier this year but below best in the autumn; now 0-16 over h'dles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Storm Force One |
(12) (25/1 +0%)25/1(+0%) | (12) Storm Force One 25/1, Reached the frame twice over C&D last spring but off since a lesser run at Southwell in April and this long-standing maiden is probably best watched this time. Some fair runs last season but she's a 25-race maiden; may again find a few to be too good. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
One Fer Mamma |
(5) (33/1 +0%)33/1(+0%) | (5) One Fer Mamma 33/1, Resumed with encouraging third at Haydock last season but left Matt Sheppard after finishing fifth at Warwick a year ago and has struggled in 3 outings for current yard. Has lots to prove. Has dropped down the weights but has struggled this year and others are preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Invincible De Mee |
(14) (33/1 -52%)33/1(-52%) | (14) Invincible De Mee 33/1, Too free after 8 months off when pulled up in handicap hurdle at Chepstow (19.4f, heavy) 49 days ago. Should step forward now but others are still preferred. Minor honours early this year in first two handicaps but pulled up on both outings since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
ABBEYHILL found only subsequent Ascot scorer Top Cloud too strong on his latest outing at Taunton and a 5lb rise may not be enough to prevent the six-year-old from regaining the winning thread. The hat-trick seeking Shewearsthewellies isn't taken lightly and is likely to give another good account of herself. Hexham victor Clovis Boy should have more to come now faced with a stiffer test of stamina, while handicap debutant Knacker Trapper is one to consider at longer odds.
IT'S MAISY relished the step up to around 3m when making a successful start to her handicap career at Market Rasen and is narrowly preferred to fellow lightly-raced improver Clovis Boy. The thriving Shewearsthewellies and Neil Mulholland's Abbeyhill are others likely to have a say.
Competitive stuff. CLOVIS BOY has been in good form over 2m4f since moving into handicaps and this step up in trip can suit.

Midnight Mary |
(2) (4/1 +33%)4/1(+33%) | (2) Midnight Mary 4/1, Good strike rate over hurdles (4-12) and perfect start in this sphere when landing a 6-runner mares' handicap here (19.4f, soft) in January. Hasn't done a great deal wrong in 6 subsequent appearances but she's probably a shade too high in the weights for now. Won here in January on sole course visit and might not be far away now back down in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Haute Estime |
(1) (5/1 +10%)5/1(+10%) | (1) Haute Estime 5/1, Off the mark over fences when taking 5-runner novice at Warwick in March and going well when falling heavily 3 out on return at Perth in September. Has looked short of pace under hold-up tactics both starts since but eased in the weights and could be a threat if ridden more positively here. Hasn't run badly against males the last twice and on a lower mark now eased in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Anti Bridgie |
(4) (11/4 +17%)11/4(+17%) | (4) Anti Bridgie 11/4, Fair form in winning her first 2 starts over hurdles at Sedgefield and Kelso last season and shaped well on chase debut when third in 7-runner event at Carlisle in October. Another promising effort when again third at Catterick (25.2f, good to soft) last month and she merits respect. Creditable efforts when third on both chase starts; lightly raced and holds solid claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Gazette Bourgeoise |
(3) (11/4 -38%)11/4(-38%) | (3) Gazette Bourgeoise 11/4, Scored twice over hurdles and, though yet to strike in this sphere, she went close to doing so in this headgear combination when returning from 8 months off at Ffos Las (21.5f, heavy). 3 lb nudge fair enough and she's a major player back up in trip here. Went very close on recent reappearance at Ffos Las; leading claims if repeating that form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Shighness |
(5) (14/1 +14%)14/1(+14%) | (5) Shighness 14/1, Consistent performer over hurdles last term, winning twice at Market Rasen (23.1f), and given a considerate introduction to chasing after 7 months off when fourth at Carlisle. However, it would be something of an understatement to say that she failed to build on that next time. It's very early days over fences but she needs to jump better than at Market Rasen latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Onestepatatime |
(6) (15/2 -60%)15/2(-60%) | (6) Onestepatatime 15/2, Enhanced health strike rate over fences when landing a 6-runner handicap at Sedgefield (26.9f, heavy) on penultimate start. Wasn't disgraced off this revised mark over the same C&D next time, for all that she failed to justify short-priced favouritism, and couldn't rule out. Won three times at Sedgefield this year but she's away from her favourite course today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
GAZETTE BOURGEOISE was just denied by the progressive James Jet on her seasonal bow at Ffos Las earlier in the month. The pair drew 22 lengths clear of the third-placed finisher that day and a 3lb rise looks far from insurmountable for Ben Case's charge. Midnight Mary has posted some creditable efforts in class 3 events of late and she should be in the mix on this drop in grade. Anti Bridgie also looks capable of landing a race at this level.
GAZETTE BOURGEOISE travelled best throughout the race and was only mugged in the dying strides when returning to action at Ffos Las recently. Moving back up in trip here will not be a problem and she is taken to open her chase account at the eighth attempt. Anti Bridgie has made a positive start over fences and is feared most ahead of Haute Estime and Onestepatatime.
The lightly raced 6yo ANTI BRIDGIE (nap) has been a promising third on her two chase starts and can get off the mark over fences here.

Sao Carlos |
(6) (2/1 +20%)2/1(+20%) | (6) Sao Carlos 2/1, Justified favouritism when making a successful debut in a course bumper on Boxing Day last year. In need of the experience sent hurdling at Lingfield last month and should have learnt plenty from that. Leading claims. Bumper winner; only 4th on hurdle debut; shaped as though he'd improve for the experience. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Walk On Quest |
(7) (4/1 +11%)4/1(+11%) | (7) Walk On Quest 4/1, £100,000 buy after finished runner-up in an Irish point in March. Has had a breathing operation ahead of this Rules debut. Also fitted with a tongue strap. Likely type. Bought for £100,000 after going close in sole point; has joined good yard for rules career. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Konfusion |
(5) (11/1 -10%)11/1(-10%) | (5) Konfusion 11/1, Shaped like a stayer in bumpers and did the same sent hurdling when third in 5-runner novice at Southwell (15.8f) in July 2022. Not seen since. Back from long layoff but yard enjoying productive month; not a huge shock if he goes well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Banteer |
(1) (11/4 -22%)11/4(-22%) | (1) Banteer 11/4, Fairly useful form when runner-up on the first of 2 starts in bumpers and shaped much better than on his hurdling debut when third of 15 in a Wincanton novice (15.2f, heavy) 15 days ago. Open to further improvement. Fair third at Wincanton a fortnight ago and sets the standard on hurdle form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jo Arengeot Bey Aa |
(4) (15/2 -25%)15/2(-25%) | (4) Jo Arengeot Bey Aa 15/2, Fetched £50,000 after winning his sole start between the flags and offered something to work on when third in a bumper at Uttoxeter on Rules debut 39 days ago. Likely to need further in time but still worthy of consideration on hurdle bow. Point winner; may need a longer trip than this over hurdles but he's not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Blazing Soldier |
(2) (16/1 +68%)16/1(+68%) | (2) Blazing Soldier 16/1, £3,000 5-y-o, Soldier of Fortune gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler/useful chaser Evander. Dam unraced. Placed once from 3 starts in Irish points, last of 7 finishers last time (May 14). Failed to threaten in Irish maiden points; improvement needed on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jean De Monts |
(3) (20/1 +0%)20/1(+0%) | (3) Jean De Monts 20/1, Showed some ability when sixth in 2m minor event on only outing on Flat in France but shaped as if amiss when tailed off on his recent Doncaster hurdles debut. Tongue strap on for 1st time. Tailed off on hurdle/stable debut at Doncaster; transformation needed now in tongue-tie. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Konfusion has been off for a long time since his third on hurdling debut at Southwell, but is one to consider. Sao Carlos, who was strongly supported in the betting on his jumping bow at Lingfield last month, is also respected despite having jumped out to the right on several occasions. However, BANTEER has a tad more experience and with the form of his Wincanton third looking solid, the Paul Nicholls-trained gelding may have the edge.
SAO CARLOS should have derived plenty from last month's hurdling debut at Lingfield, so he's a confident choice to open his account at the second time of asking in this sphere. Banteer is open to further improvement, with Walk On Quest an intriguing Rules newcomer.
The standard set by those who have raced over hurdles isn't a great one and this could go to the point runner-up WALK ON QUEST.

Hood worn on that occasion is left off now starting out for Paul Nicholls. Leading claims. Narrow winner of sole race in France in summer; yard won this in 2020 with similar type. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Silverbridge |
(6) (9/2 +50%)9/2(+50%) | (6) Silverbridge 9/2, Showed fair form in pair of 1m4f maidens on Flat and sold from John Joseph Murphy for 40,000 gns later in October. Considered hurdling debutant. Clear signs of ability in two Flat runs in Ireland; has joined good stable; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cantalupo Bella |
(8) (12/1 +25%)12/1(+25%) | (8) Cantalupo Bella 12/1, Modest maiden on the Flat who came in a remote third of 8 in juvenile hurdle (6/1) at Sedgefield (16.8f, heavy) on NH debut 41 days ago. Plenty more is required. Beaten long way on hurdling debut at Sedgefield; needs to up her game significantly. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Captain Potter |
(2) (14/1 +22%)14/1(+22%) | (2) Captain Potter 14/1, Fair maiden on Flat (stays 1½m) for Mark Walford. 40/1, remote fourth on the back of a wind op in juvenile hurdle at Market Rasen on his hurdling bow 20 days ago. Lots to prove. Well held on hurdling debut at Market Rasen; plenty of improvement required. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mad Mode |
(5) (20/1 +20%)20/1(+20%) | (5) Mad Mode 20/1, Last of 7 in juvenile hurdle at Catterick (15.7f, good to soft, 5/1) on NH debut 33 days ago. Lots more is required. Unseated rider before start and hung right throughout on debut; lots of improvement needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Carlton |
(3) (28/1 +44%)28/1(+44%) | (3) Carlton 28/1, Fair maiden on the Flat but failed to stay 1m4f when eighth of 11 in handicap at Newcastle 42 days ago. More needed now going hurdling. 0-10 on the Flat but made frame three times; not ruled out on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Snow Forecast |
(7) (40/1 +20%)40/1(+20%) | (7) Snow Forecast 40/1, Failed to go on in three runs on the level for Jonathan Portman. Needs this yard switch to spark a resurgence on his hurdling debut. No form on Flat; needs change of stable/switch to hurdling to have a transformative effect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Rose De La Jarrie |
(9) (50/1 +50%)50/1(+50%) | (9) Rose De La Jarrie 50/1, Won over 1½m at Beaupreau on only outing on Flat for Elisabeth Allaire in France. Sold for €42,000 in September but came in a well-held seventh on her hurdles debut at Catterick 8 days ago. Not written off yet. Flat winner in France but little show on hurdles debut; plenty to prove just eight days on. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Paul Nicholls introduces a highly appealing stable debutant in the shape of KABRAL DU MATHAN, who won his sole start over hurdles in France and looks well placed to make a big impact on his first run on these shores. Having handled cut in the ground, he looks set to encounter ideal underfoot conditions and heads the shortlist based on potential for further progression. Ironopolis and Captain Potter are feared most of those with previous jumping experience, while the ex-Irish Silverbridge is notable on his hurdles/stable debut.
KABRAL DU MATHAN rates the clear form pick on his debut victory at Clairefontaine in the summer and is hard to oppose now starting out with Paul Nicholls. Silverbridge has some fair form to his name on the level so could emerge as the main danger now going hurdling for his new yard ahead of Sedgefield-third Ironopolis.
There's not much strength in depth here and KABRAL DU MATHAN may be able to defy a penalty for his win in France in the summer.

Cornerstone Lad |
(3) (4/1 +53%)4/1(+53%) | (3) Cornerstone Lad 4/1, Smart hurdler at best and though not quite at the same level over fences, he ran respectably in the wake of a facile winner when second of 6 in handicap chase at this course (19.4f, heavy, 13/2) 39 days ago. Mark has eased further and he's in the mix. Regressive profile but has dropped to a dangerous mark; non-runner 2.45 here yesterday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Escapeandevade |
(4) (4/1 -14%)4/1(-14%) | (4) Escapeandevade 4/1, Point winner remains lightly raced under Rules, though made the most of a good opportunity when scoring at Ayr last January. Weak finishes have become a regular feature of his efforts, including over C&D last month, and he remains with something to prove. Didn't run badly on reappearance outing & may be able to build on it; on competitive mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Gold Des Bois |
(5) (9/1 -38%)9/1(-38%) | (5) Gold Des Bois 9/1, Landed back-to-back contests at Kelso last autumn and ran creditably to make the placings there on his first 2 outings there this term. Well held up in grade at Cheltenham last time and he's not fully discounted in more realistic company. Better could have been expected at Cheltenham but ran well when second at Kelso previously. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Xcitations |
(1) (10/3 -67%)10/3(-67%) | (1) Xcitations 10/3, Dual scorer last term who got back to winning ways when taking 6-runner handicap chase (9/2) at Sandown (15.4f, good to soft) 20 days ago. Found life tougher in better company at Newbury last time but mark doesn't yet strike as excessive and he's a player. No threat when 3rd at Newbury last time but this could take a lot less winning; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Gunsight Ridge |
(2) (15/8 +6%)15/8(+6%) | (2) Gunsight Ridge 15/8, Absent since respectable fifth at Aintree last December and had won first time up at the same course (15.8f) previously. Returns on a fair mark and is stll relatively low mileage as a chaser, so can't be discounted despite absence. Absent since last December but goes well fresh & could play leading role for in-form yard. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
GUNSIGHT RIDGE was beaten into fifth over 2m4f at Aintree when last sighted and the handicapper may have been kind to drop him 2lb for that display. Olly Murphy's eight-year-old has been sidelined for over a year, but he has won first time out in the past and this trip suits better. Xcitations didn't run badly in defeat at Newbury last time and is 1lb lower now, so it would be no surprise to see him get into contention. Gold Des Bois is another to note.
GUNSIGHT RIDGE can make a winning return for the second consecutive season, his mark now only 2 lb higher than when scoring at Aintree on his last season's comeback. Xcitations should be more at home in this company than when third at Newbury last time and rates as the main danger, with Cornerstone Lad taken to complete the 1-2-3.
The Olly Murphy-trained GUNSIGHT RIDGE has an absence to defy but he goes well fresh and returns to action with his yard in fine form.

Successful sole outing in Irish points (Jan 2023). From a good family and makes plenty of appeal on Rules debut. Won an Irish point in the mud almost a year ago and has joined a leading stable. |

Makes appeal on pedigree and his stable is 21% in bumpers in the last five seasons. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Northernlights |
(7) (10/1 -25%)10/1(-25%) | (7) The Northernlights 10/1, Runner-up in a point bumper and there was some encouragement when fifth in a bumper at Cheltenham a couple of months ago. Will likely need to improve on that, however. Fifth in a well-contested event at Cheltenham; appeals most of those to have run. |

Western Harmony |
(8) (15/8 -25%)15/8(-25%) | (8) Western Harmony 15/8, Cost £115,000 after winning his second of 2 starts in Irish points in the spring. Makes plenty of appeal for a leading stable with a strong bumper record. Fetched £115,000 after winning point with a bit in hand; of obvious interest for top yard. |

Jax Junior |
(5) (16/1 -33%)16/1(-33%) | (5) Jax Junior 16/1, Jack Hobbs gelding. Dam placed in bumpers/well held sole start over hurdles. Interesting newcomer. Newcomer by Jack Hobbs; stable has an above-average strike-rate in this sphere. |

WESTERN HARMONY changed hands for 115,000 pounds in the Goffs UK Spring sales in May and goes for the Nicky Henderson yard on his debut under Rules. The four-year-old was successful in the second of two point-to-points and appears a bright prospect. The Northernlights brings the best known form to the table after his fifth at Cheltenham in October and should take a step forward. Any market support for 135,000-euro purchase Super Saint would make him of significant interest for his powerful connections.
WESTERN HARMONY has been picked up by a top yard after winning a point and he's fancied to make a successful Rules debut at the possible expense of Super Saint, who makes plenty of appeal on paper. Barrabooka, another one that has won between the flags, is also worth considering.
Paul Nicholls and Bryony Frost combined to win this in 2022 and in the nicely bred SUPER SAINT they have another attractive candidate.
Ths is the racecard key.
