1st (9) (11/1 -10%) The Big Breac |
11/1(-10%) | (9) The Big Breac 11/1, Lightly-raced maiden who posted a good second of 16 in handicap hurdle at Hexham (23.3f, soft) 16 days ago. Can give another good account. No match for the winner at Hexham (2m7f, soft) but kept boxing on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (11/2 +31%) Geordie Night |
11/2(+31%) | (6) Geordie Night 11/2, Shaped encouragingly with a hood removed after 6 months off when second of 9 in handicap hurdle at Market Rasen (23.1f, good) 43 days ago, finishing well. Likely player in his bid for a maiden success. Second at Market Rasen (2m7f) and hasn't had many chances as a stayer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (14) (10/1 +38%) Star Vantage |
10/1(+38%) | (14) Star Vantage 10/1, Remains a maiden after 16 runs but he shaped encouragingly when fourth of 10 in handicap hurdle at Musselburgh (23.8f, good to soft) 18 days ago, not ideally placed. Must enter calculations. His first try over 3m at Musselburgh and seemed to stay the trip fine in finishing fourth. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (12) (9/1 +25%) Mersey Street |
9/1(+25%) | (12) Mersey Street 9/1, In good nick until pulled up in handicap hurdle at Fontwell (21.8f, good) 40 days ago. Needs to get back on track if he's to gain a breakthrough victory. Still a maiden but has the ability to win off this mark, especially under a 10lb claimer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (10/1 +38%) Paddy O'mahler |
10/1(+38%) | (8) Paddy O'mahler 10/1, Still a maiden and cheekpieces on for 1st time when a solid seventh of 16 in handicap hurdle at Newcastle (20.3f, good to soft) 13 days ago. Needs considering. Extended losing sequence to 14 when beaten about 12l in new cheekpieces at Newcastle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (4/1 +11%) Let's Go Joe |
4/1(+11%) | (1) Let's Go Joe 4/1, Ended a losing sequence with a career best in 13-runner handicap hurdle at Doncaster (19.4f, good) 28 days ago. Up 5 lb but he's not taken lightly over this longer trip. A winner last time and open to improvement now raised in distance (second in a point). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (16) (28/1 -40%) Royle Steel |
28/1(-40%) | (16) Royle Steel 28/1, Yet to fire in three runs this term, coming in a well-held fifth of 13 in handicap hurdle at Sedgefield (16.8f, good to soft) 31 days ago. Not easy to make a case for. Last win was over fences in October 2023 and current wellbeing looks an issue. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (13) (20/1 -43%) Bergentown |
20/1(-43%) | (13) Bergentown 20/1, It's now 11 runs since his last win in 2023 but he comes here on the back of a solid sixth of 16 in handicap hurdle at Newcastle (20.3f, good to soft) 13 days ago. One for the shortlist. Poor strike-rate and was behind Supreme Authority last time at Newcastle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (15) (66/1 -89%) Atlanticexpress |
66/1(-89%) | (15) Atlanticexpress 66/1, Remains winless and he was in rear when fell 8th in handicap hurdle at Hexham (23.3f, soft) 16 days ago. Easy to look elsewhere. Not had a lot of racing but has yet to threaten and she fell mid-race the last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (10) (6/1 +40%) Glengolly |
6/1(+40%) | (10) Glengolly 6/1, Off 7 months/yard debut (formerly with Paul Webber) when a promising fifth of 13 to Let's Go Joe in handicap hurdle at Doncaster (19.4f, good) 28 days ago. Up in trip and big shout off a 2 lb lower mark. Encouraging latest run; unraced beyond 2m4f but there's stamina in his pedigree. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (5) (22/1 -267%) The Questioner |
22/1(-267%) | (5) The Questioner 22/1, C&D winner who shaped well when second in handicap at Huntingdon (25f) 14 months ago. Yard is going well so he's very much one to consider despite his long absence. Long-time absent but was running well when last seen and isn't badly handicapped. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (4) (14/1 +72%) Almuhit |
14/1(+72%) | (4) Almuhit 14/1, Fairly useful maiden hurdler at his best but proving disappointing for this yard. Back up significantly in trip now with tonge tie added and cheekpieces also refitted. Two-time Flat winner who is now 0-12 over hurdles and tailed off in his last two handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (2) (10/1 -25%) Perculator |
10/1(-25%) | (2) Perculator 10/1, C&D winner who posted a good third of 11 in handicap hurdle at Carlisle (19.3f, soft) 26 days ago. Back up in trip and can go well again off the same mark. On a tough mark but a consistent mare who likes it around here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (3) (100/1 -100%) Good Bye |
100/1(-100%) | (3) Good Bye 100/1, Proved a model of consistency during 2022/23 campaign for this yard but he hasn't shown much spark in 4 starts since returning from a 17-month absence in June. Cheekpieces are retried here. Last three runs have been poor and went off at 100-1 the last time at Hexham. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (7) (50/1 -25%) Jelski |
50/1(-25%) | (7) Jelski 50/1, Back-to-back winner over fences at Cartmel last summer but it's been a struggle for the most part this year over fendes and hurdles, treid in a visor on last two. Cheekpieces go back on now. Has won four times at up to 3m over hurdles but doesn't appear to be in top form right now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
15th (11) (17/2 +23%) Supreme Authority |
17/2(+23%) | (11) Supreme Authority 17/2, Maiden hurdler but he recorded a good third of 16 in handicap at Newcastle (20.3f, good to soft) 13 days ago. Can't be discounted off an unchanged mark. Worth trying over this far after keeping on for third at Newcastle (2m4f); possible. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A 5lb rise in the ratings for LET'S GO JOE's victory at Doncaster last month looks more than workable and a third career triumph could be on the cards. The six-year-old has improved with each outing this year and he may be able to repel chief threat The Big Breac. The Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith-trained gelding posted his best effort under Rules when runner-up at Hexham 16 days ago, while Glengolly is also noted.
This is wide open but the vote goes to GLENGOLLY who shaped well on his stable debut when fifth at Doncaster and can build on it here off a reduced mark. Let's Go Joe, who scored at Doncaster that day, is feared most, although Geordie Night, Perculator and Star Vantage all need factoring into this very open contest too.
Let's Go Joe is feared but the stoutly bred GLENGOLLY could be a sharp improver over this longer distance.

1st (6) (7/4 +71%) Maghlaak |
7/4(+71%) | (6) Maghlaak 7/4, Fairly useful Flat winner for Charle Hills, including a Class 2 Goodwood handicap in May. Some promise in 3 starts over hurdles for current yard, making late headway at Sedgefield (16.8f, soft) 3 weeks ago. Remains with potential in this sphere. Useful on the Flat; hasn't hit same heights over hurdles but could still be a player today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (5/4 +44%) Kingston James |
5/4(+44%) | (1) Kingston James 5/4, Made a successful start under Rules in an Ayr bumper and struck at first time of asking over hurdles at Hexham (16.2f, good) in October. Hasn't gone on from effort since, though unsuited by slowly-run race last time. Enters calculations with hood applied. Hasn't kicked on from Hexham win but still a leading player in what may be a weak novice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (10/1 +29%) Born In The West |
10/1(+29%) | (3) Born In The West 10/1, Point winner who made an encouraging start under Rules when runner-up in a Newton Abbot bumper in June. Hasn't built on that effort since, leaving David Pipe after his second bumper start, but he could yet do better given his initial bumper promise. Point winner and bumper runner-up but hasn't really threatened on his two hurdle starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (11/2 -175%) Solent Gateway |
11/2(-175%) | (8) Solent Gateway 11/2, Useful handicapper at best on the Flat who has largely struggled for form this year, though finished runner-up on two occasions. Lesser efforts the last twice, but he's one to note as he goes hurdling on first run for yard after leaving Hugo Palmer. Useful stayer on the Flat; major player if taking to this game at the first attempt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (25/1 -56%) Farmer Jimmy |
25/1(-56%) | (5) Farmer Jimmy 25/1, Showed ability when third in bumper here on debut in March but went backwards from that effort on return. No threat from a long way out when seventh of 8 in novice at this C&D (heavy) on hurdles bow 20 days ago, so much more needed. Promising third on debut in bumper here but soundly beaten on both runs since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (33/1 -136%) Big Storm Brewing |
33/1(-136%) | (2) Big Storm Brewing 33/1, Failed to beat a rival only start in bumpers and well held in 2 novice hurdles so far, though offered a bit more when sixth of 12 at Carlisle (17f, soft) 12 days ago. However, he'll be of more appeal in handicaps. Small hint of promise at Carlisle 12 days ago but needs a sizeable step forward here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (40/1 -100%) Soldier Dan |
40/1(-100%) | (7) Soldier Dan 40/1, Placed on 2 of 5 starts in points, but having been unraced since April 2023 he probably needed the run when eighth of 10 in maiden hurdle at Uttoxeter (15.8f, soft) 17 days ago. This run should reveal more. Third in a point; soundly beaten at 125-1 on recent rules debut, after a long absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (80/1 -567%) Lazy Bones |
80/1(-567%) | (9) Lazy Bones 80/1, Some encouragement sole outing in bumpers and fair form on second start over hurdles when third in maiden at Navan (16f, heavy) in March. However, well held at Cork (19.2f, good) when last seen 7 months ago. First run for yard after leaving Gordon Elliott. Promise in Irish maiden hurdles but well beaten in May on final run for Gordon Elliott. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (28/1 -56%) Burglar's Dream |
28/1(-56%) | (4) Burglar's Dream 28/1, Fair maiden on the Flat (stays 1¼m), but with tongue strap retained from the level he finished a well-beaten sixth of 8 in maiden at Newcastle (16.2f, good) on hurdling debut in October. Likely to need more time in this sphere. Fair maiden on the Flat but tailed off on hurdle debut at Newcastle in October. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A return to 2m should see Kingston James in a better light after failing to see out 2m4f on his last two outings. However, smart Flat performer SOLENT GATEWAY ticks plenty of the right boxes now debuting over hurdles and he may take some stopping if taking to this discipline. Maghlaak has failed to threaten on his three appearances over timber, but he may fare best of the remainder.
A fairly useful winner on the Flat, MAGHLAAK caught the eye when staying on for fourth at Sedgefield 3 weeks ago and he is taken to build on that effort to open his hurdles account. Kingston James could bounce back in a first-time hood and is feared most, ahead of hurdling-debutant Solent Gateway.
Preference is for useful Flat stayer SOLENT GATEWAY, who has been found a winnable race for his hurdle debut.

1st (5) (5/1 +17%) Lawrenny |
5/1(+17%) | (5) Lawrenny 5/1, Progressive in bumpers, opening his account at Newcastle (16.9f, heavy) in March, staying on to lead post. In need of the experience sent hurdling after 9 months off when fifth of 9 at Leicester 22 days ago. Down in trip and may need a bit more time to fulfil his potential in this sphere. Bumper winner; well beaten on hurdle debut at Leicester but could improve for the run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (7/2 -5%) Idaho Valley |
7/2(-5%) | (4) Idaho Valley 7/2, Won his only start in Irish points in February. Failed to repeat his first effort over hurdles when third at Sedgefield (16.8f) 3 weeks ago but it remains early days. Took a backward step last time but he's respected in view of his previous promise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (2/5 +52%) Campaign Trail |
2/5(+52%) | (1) Campaign Trail 2/5, Progressive stayer on Flat for Ralph Beckett in 2023. 200,000 gns purchase in the autumn of that year and overcame a sizeable absence fitted with a tongue strap (also had breathing op) in tidy fashion on his Doncaster hurdling debut last month. Sure to progress and can defy a penalty. Useful on the Flat and won by 6l on his stable and hurdle debut; appealing claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (80/1 -60%) Goddess Afrana |
80/1(-60%) | (9) Goddess Afrana 80/1, Modest in bumpers and well held both starts over hurdles, albeit out of depth last time. Displayed some ability in bumpers but well beaten at big odds on both hurdle starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (33/1 +0%) Moonlight Monarch |
33/1(+0%) | (6) Moonlight Monarch 33/1, Bred more for the Flat but a good sort physically and second of 5 on debut at Kelso January 2023. Understandably shaped as if needing the run 23 months on over C&D recently. Fair second on debut in January 2023 but well beaten three weeks ago on sole run since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (80/1 -220%) Good Company |
80/1(-220%) | (3) Good Company 80/1, Hinted at ability prior to falling 2 out at Bangor on hurdling debut in November but was always behind in a similar event back there 2 weeks ago. Hasn't shown enough at Bangor on his two starts to suggest he'll be a factor today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (125/1 -279%) Mythical |
125/1(-279%) | (8) Mythical 125/1, Modest handicapper nowadays on Flat (stays 1¾m), one of better recent efforts last time. Makes little appeal on hurdle debut. Hurdle debut; sole Flat win (from 25 attempts) came in September 2019; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (50/1 -150%) Arnie |
50/1(-150%) | (2) Arnie 50/1, Malinas gelding. Third of 4 finishers sole outing in points in May and offered little in a Sedgefield bumper on his Rules debut 3 weeks ago. Third in British maiden point but soundly beaten when fifth of six on recent bumper debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (50/1 -317%) Mr Mistoffelees |
50/1(-317%) | (7) Mr Mistoffelees 50/1, Dam half-sister to useful hurdler (2m winner) Improvisation. Fairly useful on Flat (stays 1¼m), well below form last 2 starts. Has left Hughie Morrison ahead of hurdle debut. Market can point the way. Useful Flat form as recently as May but tailed off when last seen; may be best watched. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Useful Flat performer CAMPAIGN TRAIL made a seamless transition to hurdling when scoring at Doncaster last month, on what was also his first start for the Kim Bailey team. The son of Mastercraftsman wouldn't appear to have much more on his plate under a penalty here, and he can find improvement to go in again. Mr Mistoffelees was no slouch on the level either and it will be interesting to see how he fares in the betting on his NH debut, although point-to-point winner Idaho Valley might be the bigger threat.
CAMPAIGN TRAIL, a progressive stayer on the Flat, overcame a lengthy absence in tidy fashion on his Doncaster hurdling debut last month and looks to have been found a good opportunity under a penalty. Idaho and Lawrenny can battle it out for minor honours.
Three-time Flat winner CAMPAIGN TRAIL made an impressive start to his jumps career at Doncaster and can make it 2-2 in this code.

1st (4) (15/8 +6%) Grand Albert |
15/8(+6%) | (4) Grand Albert 15/8, Winning Irish pointer who improved with each start over hurdles last term and made a decent start to his chase career when third at Carlisle on return this month. Return to further will suit and sure to improve switched to a handicap. 3m point winner; ran well over 2m on chase debut and now up to 3m in a handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (2/1 -33%) Dare To Shout |
2/1(-33%) | (2) Dare To Shout 2/1, A fairly useful winning hurdler who built on a promising chase debut when landing a 4-runner contest at Carlisle last month. Excellent second behind an exciting prospect at Kelso since and good chance he can resume winning ways. Bumped into a progressive one off 1lb lower at Kelso (2m7f, soft); solid chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (9/1 +0%) Whatdeawant |
9/1(+0%) | (3) Whatdeawant 9/1, Useful novice hurdler for Willie Mullins during 2021/22 campaign, best effort when third in the Ballymore at the Cheltenham Festival. Has never stood much racing, however, and below par both starts over fences for this yard 7 months apart. Headgear on now. Well held in his two races for current yard and last time was a backward step. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (1) (9/4 +44%) The Four Sixes |
9/4(+44%) | (1) The Four Sixes 9/4, Found improvement on debut for Olly Murphy when winning 6-runner handicap hurdle on Boxing Day here 12 months ago. Placed all 3 subsequent completed starts that season but disappointed on chase bow/return at Kempton last month. Stopped quickly on chase debut but hurdle form brings him into it off this mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Having found only a progressive chaser too strong at Kelso earlier in the month, DARE TO SHOUT holds leading claims in this small-field affair. A 1lb rise in the ratings shouldn't prevent another bold showing from Ann Hamilton's charge and compensation could be on the cards. Grand Albert made a promising chase bow when third to the highly-touted Caldwell Potter at Carlisle 26 days ago and he's feared most, ahead of The Four Sixes.
DARE TO SHOUT has improved switched to fences this season and holds solid claims as he bids to resume winning ways. Grand Albert made a decent start in this sphere when third at Carlisle and is the obvious threat stepping back up in trip.
The 6yo GRAND ALBERT ran a nice first race in this discipline and he's up to a more suitable trip for his handicap debut.

1st (8) (8/11 +74%) Hosaamm |
8/11(+74%) | (8) Hosaamm 8/11, Useful performer on Flat (stays 1½m) for Owen Burrows. New connections acquired him for 78,000 gns in October and made a satisfactory start over hurdles despite failing to justify his short price at Catterick. Cheekpieces off and he seems sure to improve. Odd mistake but stuck to task well when second at Catterick; open to improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (7/2 -17%) Cruden |
7/2(-17%) | (1) Cruden 7/2, Fairly useful on Flat (stays 11.5f) winning maiden at Limerick in May. Well prepared to make a winning hurdles debut at Cork in October, finding plenty. Left Mrs J. Harrington 25,000 gns later that month and while he has a penalty to carry, he's entitled to progress. Seemed revitalised by switch to hurdling when winning gamely at Cork; leading contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (40/1 -60%) Benvoy |
40/1(-60%) | (4) Benvoy 40/1, Fair maiden on Flat (sold from Henry de Bromhead £6,500 in July). Half-brother to useful 2m hurdle winner Arabian Revolution (scored first time up in this sphere) but he was in need of the experience at Market Rasen in September. Tongue strap on. No immediate promise on hurdling debut at Market Rasen in September; tongue-strap goes on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (9/1 +25%) Fine Point |
9/1(+25%) | (7) Fine Point 9/1, Fair maiden at up to 10.5f on the Flat in Ireland and showed benefit of his hurdles debut experience when second of 5 in juvenile hurdle at Newcastle in October. Found out in a deeper race at Fontwell. 0-7 Flat and jumps; faded into fifth at Fontwell six weeks ago; improvement required. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (12) (80/1 -142%) Scotland The Brave |
80/1(-142%) | (12) Scotland The Brave 80/1, Showed fair form when mid-division on second of 2 starts in minor events on Flat. Hurdles bow. Bit more promise on second Flat start when sixth at Newcastle; not dismissed now hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (12/1 -243%) Livano Bello |
12/1(-243%) | (9) Livano Bello 12/1, Showed plenty when 4¾ lengths third of 11 to Static in claimer at Auteuil on hurdling debut, racing keenly and chasing leaders. Claimed from Hugo Merienne after for €30,600 and should do better for new connections. Third of 11 in French 3yo hurdle in September; may well make an impact on British debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (7/1 +30%) Belcamo |
7/1(+30%) | (3) Belcamo 7/1, From the family of fairly useful hurdler (stayed 2¾m) Hawkhill and scored on the Flat at Goodwood in June. Promising start over hurdles last month but not in the same form at Leicester since. Some promise on hurdling debut; might have been unsuited by heavy ground next time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (40/1 -186%) Normandy Legend |
40/1(-186%) | (10) Normandy Legend 40/1, A fair 1m Flat maiden for James Ferguson. Changed hands for 20,000 gns in July but looks one for handicaps over hurdles on what he's displayed so far. Eight-race maiden under both codes; others appeal more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (18/1 +18%) Catalan King |
18/1(+18%) | (6) Catalan King 18/1, Fair maiden on Flat (stays 15f) for Ed Bethell, well held in handicap last time. Work to do on hurdles debut. Disappointing last two Flat outings; needs to be revived by stable switch and obstacles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (50/1 -150%) Amancio |
50/1(-150%) | (2) Amancio 50/1, Fair handicapper on Flat (stays 10.5f), well below form last time. Sold from Jack Channon for 16,000 gns later in October and had plenty of racing prior to this hurdles debut. Tongue tie on. Reliable in main on Flat for Jack Channon; not without a chance if taking well to hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (125/1 -150%) Rained Off |
125/1(-150%) | (11) Rained Off 125/1, Little show in minor events/maiden on Flat. Cheekpieces on for hurdles debut. Beaten out of sight in three Flat races; needs to be transformed by cheekpieces/hurdles. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Cruden recorded a narrow win at Cork on his hurdles debut in October and he is of considerable interest now in the care of James Ewart, but HOSAAMM gets the vote. The son of Zoffany achieved a peak rating of 93 on the Flat before finishing second on his hurdling bow at Catterick earlier this month. The three-year-old ought to have learnt plenty from that experience and he is taken to go one place better. Belcamo and Fine Point are others to consider.
HOSAAMM looked in need of the experience when second starting out over hurdles at Catterick and, given his Flat ability, above-average improvement is surely forthcoming. Livano Bello is also open to progress so is second choice, ahead of Cruden, who must carry a penalty.
Fairly useful Flat racer HOSAAMM took well enough to the new discipline at Catterick to suggest he could go one better today.

1st (3) (11/4 0%) Harper's Brook |
11/4(0%) | (3) Harper's Brook 11/4, Has his quirks but plenty of ability, too, as he displayed when a good second at Ascot last December before going one better at Sandown (left clear at the last) for Ben Pauling. First 2 runs for present yard were low-key but much more like it when second at Newbury last time. Big player. Quirky sort but runner-up at Newbury recently and could be thereabouts once more. |

2nd (4) (11/8 +39%) Parisencore |
11/8(+39%) | (4) Parisencore 11/8, Did the job well when opening chase account at Perth (2½m, good to firm) in June and arrives here on the back of a string of creditable efforts in defeat, including when dropping back to 2m at Aintree last time. Possibilities here off an unchanged mark. Has run well in defeat on his last three starts; every chance he'll be in the mix. |

3rd (2) (4/1 -88%) Pay The Piper |
4/1(-88%) | (2) Pay The Piper 4/1, Went close in the novices' handicap on this card in 2021 and done little wrong in 4 starts this season, winning twice at Kelso and runner-up on 2 occasions here, including over C&D in October. Rising 10, he holds no secrets from the handicapper but the fact that he's in good form counts for plenty. Two wins at Kelso this autumn and runner-up here most recently; solid claims. |

|F| (1) (9/2 +0%) Malystic |
9/2(+0%) | (1) Malystic 9/2, Ended last term with a couple of solid efforts in defeat and good start to this season when going close in a Kelso handicap in which the first 2 pulled clear of the rest. Has failed to fire both subsequent starts but now back down to the mark off which he landed this in 2022 and he's 2-2 over C&D. Below par on last two starts but won this two years ago and is worth a second look. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Following a facile triumph over 2m1f at Kelso, PAY THE PIPER had to settle for the silver medal off his revised mark over the extended 2m3f here last month. However, this drop back in trip will suit and he is taken to record a second track-and-trip victory, possibly at the main expense of fellow course winner Parisencore, who has been running well in defeat. Harper's Brook hinted at a return to form when runner-up at Newbury last week.
Supporting HARPER'S BROOK may not be for the faint-hearted but he is nevertheless appealing having returned to form when second to an unexposed 5-y-o at Newbury last time. That was just third third run for Dan Skelton (and his first since cheekpieces were refitted, headgear in which he had performed well on two of the three previous occasions worn) and he's on a winning mark. 2022 winner Malystic will be a threat if able to bounce back, while both Pay The Piper and Parisencore have claims, too.
The consistent PAY THE PIPER (nap) won twice in the autumn and earns the vote ahead of Parisencore.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (11) (125/1 -279%) Timely Approach |
125/1(-279%) | (11) Timely Approach 125/1, Bred for the Flat but only a hint of ability when seventh at Newcastle on debut 13 days ago. Needs to step forward plenty from that. Never better than midfield when seventh at Newcastle two weeks ago; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (13) (28/1 +15%) Sun Rising Legacy |
28/1(+15%) | (13) Sun Rising Legacy 28/1, £5,000 3-y-o, Ocovango mare. Half-sister to useful hurdler/chaser Dromore Lad and bumper winner Sun Rising Hill. Wears cheekpieces. Fetched only £5,000 as a 3yo but has quite a useful pedigree; yard 7-64 in bumpers of late. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (12) (40/1 -21%) Anna's Lady |
40/1(-21%) | (12) Anna's Lady 40/1, Monsieur Bond filly. Dam of little account on Flat. Doesn't make much appeal on paper. Flat-bred filly; rare bumper runner for this yard. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
The in-form Olly Murphy takes the wraps off a couple of expensive newcomers in the shape of Drayton Flyer (56,000 pounds) and Harbour Island (70,000 euros) and they must be respected. Full Force Gale repaid some of his 60,000-pound price tag by scoring first time out at Ffos Las, but he may struggle to successfully concede 7lb to BLUE BELLAMY, who stepped up on his Rules debut when a close second at Market Rasen.
HARBOUR ISLAND and Drayton Flyer are both appealing on pedigree and represent the same connections that do well in this sphere, so they might be the pair to concentrate on, with the first name marginally preferred. Blue Bellamy has experience and should go well again.
Brian Ellison's newcomer GEORDIE MACKEM gets a tentative vote, with Blue Bellamy and Full Force Gale also considered.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
