1st (4) (8/13 +23%) Torneo |
8/13(+23%) | (4) Torneo 8/13, Fairly useful winner on Flat in France for Jean-Claude Rouget. Placed both starts in juvenile hurdles for new connections and he might have found a good opportunity here. French Flat winner who has been placed on both hurdle starts and holds leading claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (7/1 -133%) Man Of Monaco |
7/1(-133%) | (2) Man Of Monaco 7/1, Fairly useful on Flat (stays 1¼m) for Charlie Johnston. Starts out over hurdles in a winnable race and it'll be interesting to see what the betting makes of him. Heavy-ground 1m2f maiden winner on Flat; brings potential to this hurdle/stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (9/2 +36%) Silverbridge |
9/2(+36%) | (3) Silverbridge 9/2, Showed fair form in pair of 1½m maidens on Flat for John Joseph Murphy in Ireland. Ran to only a modest level when fourth of 6 on his Hereford hurdle debut 3 weeks ago but he should come on for the experience. Soundly beaten fourth of six on hurdle debut but open to improvement and not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (250/1 -67%) Rose De La Jarrie |
250/1(-67%) | (6) Rose De La Jarrie 250/1, Won over 1½m at Beaupreau on only outing on Flat in France but down the field in a pair of juvenile hurdles at Catterick for her new connections. French Flat winner but tailed off at big odds on first two hurdle outings. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (28/1 -12%) Lillistar |
28/1(-12%) | (5) Lillistar 28/1, Fair maiden on Flat (stays 1¼m) for Harry & Roger Charlton. Betting should guide now hurdling for new yard. 0-7 on the Flat; needs to improve for the switch to hurdles to make winning stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (5/1 -11%) El Pro |
5/1(-11%) | (1) El Pro 5/1, Fair maiden on the Flat in Germany. Shaped better than being pulled up suggests on Fontwell hurdle debut over Christmas, showing up well long way. Entitled to last longer this time. Useful on the Flat in France but pulled up on last month's hurdle and stable debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
TORNEO shaped with promise on his hurdling bow when runner-up at Catterick before finishing third to a leading Triumph Hurdle contender in Sir Gino at Kempton over Christmas. This appears to be a decent opportunity for Jamie Snowden's gelding to gain a first success over timber. Silverbridge is entitled to build on his Hereford fourth earlier this month and he may pose the biggest threat to the selection, while El Pro is worth another chance after he was pulled up at Fontwell.
TORNEO is the one to beat after his pair of placed efforts in similar events, although market confidence behind Lucinda Russell hurdle newcomer Man of Monaco, who gained his Flat win on testing ground, would make him a potential threat.
This could be a good opportunity for TORNEO to get off the mark over hurdles, having been placed on his first two runs in this code.

1st (9) (40/1 -150%) Goguenard |
40/1(-150%) | (9) Goguenard 40/1, Maiden Irish pointer who has been well held on his completed starts in novice/maiden hurdles, but he's bred to have more ability than he's shown to date and is worth keeping an eye on in the betting making handicap debut after 12 months off. One to watch in the betting on handicap debut but he's shown very little under rules. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (3/1 -9%) Heard That |
3/1(-9%) | (2) Heard That 3/1, Displayed minor promise in qualifying runs and shaped well sent handicapping when fourth of 12 in over C&D (heavy) 30 days ago. Tongue strap on for 1st time. Open to further improvement. Step in right direction when fourth over C&D on handicap debut; could improve further. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (3/1 +0%) Mister Barclay |
3/1(+0%) | (4) Mister Barclay 3/1, Showed improved form when third on handicap bow at Hereford (16.2f) in April. Creditable efforts both starts back this term, including over C&D latest, and looks sure to go well again. Second of 12 over C&D last time and a first win may well be imminent. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (9/1 -13%) Jersay Du Trottet |
9/1(-13%) | (1) Jersay Du Trottet 9/1, Showed a bit more than previously for current yard under a patient ride when fourth in 7-runner handicap hurdle at Huntingdon (15.8f, good to soft) on return in October. However, went backwards at Sedgefield the following month. Good third in France last January in tongue-tie, which he wears for first time in Britain. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (12/1 -33%) Supreme Yeats |
12/1(-33%) | (3) Supreme Yeats 12/1, Has struggled since bagging a Southwell handicap in November 2022, faring no better in first-time blinkers at Southwell when last seen in June. Subsequent break/breathing operation needs to have had a positive effect. Struggled on final 2 runs last June; however, has had wind op since and is on a handy mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (80/1 -300%) Dazzling Dove |
80/1(-300%) | (5) Dazzling Dove 80/1, Still a maiden and has failed to beat a rival on her last two starts. Plenty to prove. Placed early last year on first two stable starts but tailed off the last twice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (4/1 +38%) Blended Stealth |
4/1(+38%) | (8) Blended Stealth 4/1, Long-standing maiden who ran below form in a first-time visor when seventh of 9 in handicap hurdle (9/2) at Musselburgh (23.8f, soft) 38 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Others more persuasive. Fair fourth two starts ago and cheekpieces go back on, but he's a 24-race maiden. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (7/2 +22%) Shillanavogy |
7/2(+22%) | (6) Shillanavogy 7/2, Made the frame both starts in Irish points but well held in sole bumper and in 3 quick runs over hurdles for current yard. However, maybe a step back up in trip will see him in a better light now handicapping. One to note. Well beaten in his 3 novice hurdles but goes handicapping off lowly mark; watch betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (50/1 -317%) Conscription |
50/1(-317%) | (7) Conscription 50/1, Runner-up in a point bumper but has finished down the field all 3 outings over hurdles. Back up in trip for handicap debut and sizeable step forward required. Has struggled on his three hurdle runs but market check advised on handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
MISTER BARCLAY arrives having filled the runner-up spot over C&D on Boxing Day, with Heard That finishing fourth on that occasion, and the former is expected to confirm that form and go one better in the process. The latter is respected as he sports a tongue-tie for the first time on just his second start in handicap company. Blended Stealth drops back in trip and is capable of better with cheekpieces reapplied.
HEARD THAT went through the race as if on a good mark when fourth on his handicap debut over C&D last month and, with further progress on the cards, he's taken to reverse the form with Mister Barclay and come out on top. Shillanavogy has the look of one who may do better now handicapping back up in trip and completes the shortlist.
Having been a promising second over C&D on Boxing Day, the lightly raced MISTER BARCLAY is taken to post his first win.

1st (6) (11/1 -83%) Docpickedme |
11/1(-83%) | (6) Docpickedme 11/1, Multiple winner over hurdles/fences for Harry Whittington and ran a cracker on return for new yard when narrow second at Warwick (25.5f). However, rather gone backwards in a couple of starts since. Went close at Warwick in November on stable debut but soundly beaten the next twice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (11/4 +21%) The Edgar Wallace |
11/4(+21%) | (4) The Edgar Wallace 11/4, Returned to best this season, scoring over C&D on return before following up in 5-runner handicap chase at Leicester (20.1f, heavy) 43 days ago, driven out. Just 3 lb higher now and must enter calculations. 2-2 this season (including C&D win) and could still be ahead of the handicapper. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (11/4 +8%) Our Jet |
11/4(+8%) | (2) Our Jet 11/4, Back to winning ways at Kempton (20.5f) in November and improved on that when second of 5 in handicap chase over C&D (heavy) 30 days ago. Expected to be bang there. Back to his best when winning at Kempton and good second over this C&D since; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (9/2 -29%) No Risk Des Flos |
9/2(-29%) | (3) No Risk Des Flos 9/2, Goes particularly well here and ran up to best when third of 5 in handicap chase over C&D (heavy, 5/1) 30 days ago. Back down to last winning mark. Four-time course winner who was a good third here latest and could play a leading role. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (22/1 -144%) Marshalled |
22/1(-144%) | (5) Marshalled 22/1, Winning hurdler/chaser in Ireland and better than ever for new yard, jumping well when landing 6-runner handicap chase at Cartmel (21.2f, soft) in August. 7 lb higher now but not taken lightly. Did well for new yard last year, winning twice; betting could be informative on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (8/1 +11%) Cornerstone Lad |
8/1(+11%) | (7) Cornerstone Lad 8/1, Course winner who has made the frame in a couple of small-field contests this season. Comes here operating from career-low mark but strike rate in this sphere hardly the most compelling. Mark continues to fall but this 10yo has been below par on both runs this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (5/1 +44%) Gallic Geordie |
5/1(+44%) | (8) Gallic Geordie 5/1, Back to winning ways at this course (15.2f, heavy) in November and ran to similar level when third at Newbury the following month. Latest run can be excused and ought to give another good account here. Latest run may have come too soon; 2 wins here from 3 visits; one to be interested in. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (25/1 -56%) Whoshotthesheriff |
25/1(-56%) | (1) Whoshotthesheriff 25/1, Won a couple of times in 2021/22 campaign under this rider and would have gone close to making a winning return over C&D in October 2022 had his jumping not let him down. Not disgraced in stronger contest next time and can't be ruled out on belated comeback given good record fresh. 10yo who returns from long absence but given a chance by handicapper and goes well fresh. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
THE EDGAR WALLACE has been a revelation since undergoing wind surgery and he seemed to be value for more than the winning margin when scoring at Leicester last month. A 3lb rise for that victory could prove lenient and he should have too much for the returning Marshalled, as well as Our Jet, who has been in fine form this season and wasn't beaten far over C&D last time out.
Preference is for OUR JET, who was only grabbed close home here last time and remains on a workable mark. The Edgar Wallace and Marshalled should also go well.
Gavin Sheehan's mount THE EDGAR WALLACE is 2-2 this season and there can be optimism there is still mileage in his mark.

1st (1) (10/11 +67%) Asta La Pasta |
10/11(+67%) | (1) Asta La Pasta 10/11, Bumper winner who made it 2-4 over hurdles when readily seeing off 7 rivals in 2m Market Rasen novice on Boxing Day. Big player despite conceding weight all round. 2-4 over hurdles; now carries double penalty but holds leading claims nevertheless. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (11/2 +8%) Tedtwo |
11/2(+8%) | (3) Tedtwo 11/2, Bumper winner who made a successful start over hurdles for Kerry Lee when taking Ffos Las maiden (15.8f, heavy) last month. Since joined Ben Haslam and remains open to improvement in this sphere. Did well to win at Ffos Las having made a mistake at the final flight; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (5/4 -71%) Fortunate Man |
5/4(-71%) | (2) Fortunate Man 5/4, Promising sort who made his first completed start a winning one when taking 18-runner novice hurdle at Newbury (16.3f, heavy) 36 days ago, well on top finish. Likely more to come yet. Point winner who scored with plenty in hand at Newbury; respected under penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (125/1 -25%) Shady B |
125/1(-25%) | (7) Shady B 125/1, Runner-up final 2 starts between the flags last spring but nearer last than first in both outings over hurdles. Runner-up in points but soundly beaten this winter on first two hurdle starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (250/1 -25%) Call Me Jack |
250/1(-25%) | (5) Call Me Jack 250/1, Down the field in 2 Doncaster bumpers last winter and fared no better in a couple of attempts over timber this term. Down the field in bumpers and same story on both hurdle starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (28/1 -273%) Henrysbrotherjack |
28/1(-273%) | (6) Henrysbrotherjack 28/1, Jack Hobbs gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler Secret Trix. One to note on debut. May need further but he's in good hands and is one to watch in the betting on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (50/1 -317%) Reine Des Tartes |
50/1(-317%) | (10) Reine Des Tartes 50/1, €18,000 3-y-o, £30,000 4-y-o, Soldier of Fortune mare. Dam, maiden pointer, half-sister to fair hurdler/smart chaser (stayed 3¼m) Treacle. Point winner in November and worth monitoring in market. British maiden point winner; bought for £30,000; useful standard required on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (150/1 -127%) Missy Ava |
150/1(-127%) | (9) Missy Ava 150/1, Comfortably held in novice hurdles at this course and Newcastle in recent weeks. Improved form on second start but still soundly beaten; needs another big step forward. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (250/1 +0%) Midnight Alnwicky |
250/1(+0%) | (8) Midnight Alnwicky 250/1, Sent off big odds and no impact in both starts over hurdles. Triple-figure odds and has struggled on first two starts. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A costly purchase at the sales, FORTUNATE MAN made quite the impression when scoring on his second start at Newbury last month, and there should be plenty more improvement forthcoming from the five-year-old. Similar comments apply to Asta La Pasta, who bounced back to winning ways at Market Rasen, while Tedtwo has switched yards since his own victory at Ffos Las.
FORTUNATE MAN looked a useful prospect when scoring at Newbury last month and is fancied to follow up. Asta La Pasta and Tedtwo look the obvious dangers.
The Jonjo O'Neill-trained FORTUNATE MAN won in fine style at Newbury last month and earns the vote ahead of Tedtwo.

1st (7) (11/8 +54%) Lincoln Lyn |
11/8(+54%) | (7) Lincoln Lyn 11/8, Opened her chase account at the third attempt a year ago and stepped up on her reappearance run when second in handicap at Fakenham (21.2f) in December. Did well under the circumstances last time having made mistakes, so she's a major player. Pretty consistent and went close at Fakenham last month; solid claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (7/4 +75%) Pougne Aminta |
7/4(+75%) | (4) Pougne Aminta 7/4, Irish point winner who scored with plenty in hand in maiden hurdle at this course (21.2f) last March. Fair third on stable/chase debut at Ludlow (20f) in October and ran to a similar level when fifth of 12 at Cheltenham last time. More needed. Won maiden hurdle here last March; drops back down in grade on third chase run; considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (13/2 -117%) Oakley Dancer |
13/2(-117%) | (3) Oakley Dancer 13/2, Off the mark in novice hurdle at Chepstow (2m) on her final outing last season and defied a penalty in Newton Abbot novice 2 months later. Ran at least as well in defeat on her last 2 starts, so she's one to consider as she goes up in trip for her chase debut. Bred to be suited by step up in trip on chase debut; lightly raced and a possible improver. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (6) (9/1 +10%) Jane Du Berlais |
9/1(+10%) | (6) Jane Du Berlais 9/1, Made her first completed start over hurdles a successful one at Lingfield in December 2022, but ended last season out of sorts and shaped as if amiss on her return. Has enough to prove making her chase debut with hood/tongue strap reached for. Pulled up in all three handicap hurdles; first-time headgear for chase debut; check market. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (2) (12/1 -71%) Uptown Lady |
12/1(-71%) | (2) Uptown Lady 12/1, Winner over hurdles in February 2021 but hasn't stood much racing since, showing promise on second chase attempt when third at Ffos Las (23.8f) last March. Probably needed the run after 10 months off at Huntingdon 13 days ago, though she still has something to find. Yet to shine over fences but dropping down weights and things may click at some point. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
LINCOLN LYN improved for her seasonal debut to finish runner-up behind a subsequent winner at Fakenham last month and, with possibly more to come today, Tom Gretton's mare is taken to go one better off a 1lb higher mark. The main danger appears to be Oakley Dancer, a dual hurdle winner who represents the in-form Olly Murphy yard and a big run on her chasing debut would come as no surprise. Whatsdastory continues to slide down the ratings and she is no forlorn hope.
LINCOLN LYN showed the benefit of her reappearance run when second at Fakenham in December, doing well to make up as much ground as she did having made mistakes, so she is taken to build on that and return to winning ways. The main danger could be Juniper, who is worth another chance back down in grade, with Oakley Dancer also considered.
The lightly raced 7yo OAKLEY DANCER is bred to be suited by this step up in trip on her chase debut and she earns the vote.

1st (4) (5/4 +44%) Tune In A Box |
5/4(+44%) | (4) Tune In A Box 5/4, Promise shown in a bumper/over hurdles before a big improvement to land a 10-runner event at Newcastle on handicap debut, forging clear. Hiked up 9 lb but likely remains ahead of his mark and should make another bold bid. Had plenty to spare at Newcastle; up 9lb but could still be ahead of the handicapper. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (20/1 -67%) Nearly Wed |
20/1(-67%) | (7) Nearly Wed 20/1, Runner-up twice in Irish points but well held completed start over hurdles. Could up his game now switched to handicaps/up in trip. Two-time 3m point runner-up who is a possible improver now up in trip on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (50/1 -213%) Fainche |
50/1(-213%) | (6) Fainche 50/1, Posted one of her better efforts when fourth in a 16-runner Fairyhouse handicap (23.2f, heavy) in November 2022. Returned from long absence with a tame run at Catterick for new stable, though, leaving her with a bit to prove. Longstanding maiden in Ireland; pulled up on last month's stable debut, after absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (17/2 -55%) Clovis Boy |
17/2(-55%) | (2) Clovis Boy 17/2, Built on his handicap debut/reappearance when seeing off 7 rivals over 2½m in the mud at Hexham in November. Seemingly finding trip inadequate before falling at Ayr last time and looks capable of better over this distance. Has been keeping on well over 2m4f and this step up in trip could be right up his street. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (10/1 -54%) My Strong Man |
10/1(-54%) | (9) My Strong Man 10/1, Maiden handicap hurdler who returned to form when runner-up at Catterick 24 days ago. Others look better treated but he should give another good account. Longstanding maiden but runner-up on three of his last six hurdle starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (8/1 -23%) You Say Its Over |
8/1(-23%) | (8) You Say Its Over 8/1, Still looking for first success but has been runner-up under this rider on her last three outings. Should be on the premises again for all that others may be better treated. 0-12 but runner-up on last three starts and could be thereabouts once more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (6/1 -33%) Colonel Whizz |
6/1(-33%) | (1) Colonel Whizz 6/1, Shaped like a stayer when runner-up in bumper at Market Rasen in May and it's been a similar story over hurdles so far. Likely improve upped in distance for handicap debut. Some fair runs and pedigree provides optimism regarding the step up in trip on h'cap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (12/1 +52%) Barney Stinson |
12/1(+52%) | (5) Barney Stinson 12/1, Long-standing maiden who doesn't appear to be about to buck that trend despite a sliding mark. 0-15 but could be working his way back into form and has each-way possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (11/1 +21%) Moro Rock |
11/1(+21%) | (3) Moro Rock 11/1, Modest form in bumpers and has run to a similar level over hurdles, including on handicap debut over C&D 12 days ago. Needs to up his game. Yet to threaten but fair fifth on recent handicap debut and may be able to build on it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (20/1 -150%) Captain Copper |
20/1(-150%) | (10) Captain Copper 20/1, Has cut little ice in points and four runs over hurdles. Easy to look elsewhere unless the market speaks in his favour now fitted with cheekpieces. Yet to get competitive but goes handicapping off basement mark; watch the betting. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
TUNE IN A BOX was quite taking when scooting home on his handicap bow at Newcastle in November, where he put the race to bed in quick fashion. Tom Lacey's charge does have a 9lb hike in the ratings to contend with here, but the five-year-old looks capable of better. Although Colonel Whizz was a bit underwhelming when a well-beaten third at Southwell last month, an opening mark of 98 looks workable, while Clovis Boy should relish this stiffer test of stamina.
TUNE IN A BOX showed marked improvement and was well on top at the finish when making a successful handicap debut at Newcastle a couple of months ago. He's the sort to go on improving, so he takes preference over Clovis Boy and Colonel Whizz, who both promise to be well suited by the step up in trip.
Having forged clear on his handicap debut at Newcastle, TUNE IN A BOX (nap) is taken to defy a 9lb rise. Clovis Boy is a danger

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
