Lavender Hill Mob

1
1/1(+33%)
(7) Lavender Hill Mob 1/1, Useful Flat performer and hopes were high for him over hurdles but he's run to just a fair level in 2 starts, taking a keen hold in first-time cheekpieces when well held at Cheltenham 37 days ago. May yet have more to offer.
Has the highest Flat rating in this field and brings the best hurdles form to boot.

Midnight Rumble

8.5
17/2(+23%)
(8) Midnight Rumble 17/2, Fairly useful handicapper on Flat (stays 1¼m), successful once in 2024. In good hands for this discipline but he could only run to a barely fair level when sixth of 7 in a Kempton juvenile hurdle (2m) 24 days ago.
Only sixth of seven at Kempton but should do better; likely player on Flat form.

10/3(-52%)
(2) Aviemore 10/3, Useful on Flat (stays 1½m), successful twice at 10f for Charlie Johnston during 2024. Joined very good NH yard for 30,000 gns in October and he very much appeals as the type to make his mark in this sphere. Stable won this 12 months ago.
Fairly useful on Flat; the type to do well in juvenile hurdles; interesting contender.

(6) Estate Planning 18/1, Fair form on first of 3 starts in Flat maidens for Mrs J. Harrington and stepped up on his yard/hurdles debut effort when third in a C&D juvenile 39 days ago. Appeals as the type to progress again in this sphere, including when tackling 2½m.
Placed in C&D event last time but the form is nothing special.

Dr Waksman

(5) Dr Waksman 33/1, Fair form in maidens on Flat (stays 10.5f), showed more than previously when made frame last time. Has left Andrew Oliver and now goes hurdling for successful NH yard.

17/2(+23%)
(1) See The Green 17/2, Fairly useful on Flat for Owen Burrows and made a successful start to his hurdle career in Ludlow juvenile (15.7f) in November. He's not the biggest however, and could only run to a similar level under a penalty when fourth of 5 in juvenile hurdle at Sandown (2m) 45 days ago.
Won a weak race on hurdles debut and found things harder at Sandown since.

200/1(-100%)
(9) Little Lady Lucy 200/1, Fair on Flat for Joseph O'Brien, off the mark in that sphere in an 11.8f Gowran handicap in September. No show both starts since switched to hurdles, though, and she's best watched until tackling low-grade handicaps.
Has failed to transfer her Irish Flat ability to this sphere.

150/1(-127%)
(3) Catalan King 150/1, Fair maiden on Flat (stays 15f) for Ed Bethell but showed no aptitude for hurdling first time up when always behind in a Wetherby juvenile (2m, soft) over Christmas. Passed over here.

12:05 Warwick Conditions Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

LAVENDER HILL MOB has arguably been disappointing on both hurdles starts to date, although James Owen's gelding has shown promise on each of those occasions. With that in mind, he can be given another chance here given the strength of his Flat form. Aviemore was also useful on the level and has to be noted on his hurdling bow, while Midnight Rumble is the pick of the remainder.

Those with previous hurdles form only set a fair standard but useful Flat performer AVIEMORE appeals as the type who could make his mark now hurdling for the Harry Derham stable and earns the vote before market clues. Lavender Hill Mob surely has a bigger effort in his locker and is a threat, along with See The Green who returns to calmer waters. Dr Waksman is another hurdles debutant to note.

Form choice LAVENDER HILL MOB gets the vote, with interesting hurdles debutant Aviemore feared most.

(1) That's Nice 4/6, Won sole start in points and justified good support to follow up on hurdles debut in mares' novice over C&D (soft) in November, very confidently ridden. Seemingly not right when coming in last of 4 at Cheltenham since and she's well worth another chance.
Best to forgive latest effort; scored cosily over C&D in November and remains of interest.

(8) Miss Cynthia 5/1, Useful performer on Flat (stays 17f) for Sir Mark Prescott who was bought for 100,000 gns in October. Well below that level when second of 6 in novice hurdle at Fakenham (20f, good to soft) on NH debut 29 days ago but she should have learnt plenty from that.
No match for the winner at Fakenham but Flat form suggests she should do better.

12:35 Warwick Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 19f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

THAT'S NICE failed to fire when odds-on at Cheltenham last time but she was an impressive winner over C&D the time before. As a result, Nicky Henderson's mare can be given another chance back against her own sex. Miss Cynthia was well held on her hurdling debut at Fakenham but it is far too soon to be writing her off, while any market support for Presenting Doy would have to be noted.

THAT'S NICE clearly wasn't herself at Cheltenham last time and is taken to concede weight all round here. Jasmine d'Airy and Presenting Doy are also of interest.

C&D winner THAT'S NICE remains of interest. Miss Cynthia and Jasmine d'Airy are the other main players on British form.

13:05 Warwick Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 19f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

It is hard to oppose MISTRESS EMMA, who was returning from a 903-day break when filling second place on her hurdling debut at Newbury in December. With the benefit of that outing, the former bumper winner could be hard to stop. I Am The Moon may prove to be the main danger based on her fourth at Wetherby on Boxing Day, although Briery Bee is another with claims.

Preference is for BRIERY BEE, who offered encouragement when given a considerate introduction to hurdling here 2 months ago and will have learnt plenty from that. Mistress Emma and I Am The Moon rate the principal dangers.

With wind surgery likely to bring her on, BRIERY BEE is preferred. I Am The Moon and Mistress Emma complete the shortlist.

(4) Leader In The Park 5/4, Cost £250,000 from points and looked good when making all in 19.5f Doncaster maiden hurdle in February. All the better for chase bow/return when making all at Kempton on Boxing Day, finding extra after looking vulnerable. Likely to progress further so big shout up 4 lb.
Made all at Kempton on Boxing Day and warrants respect with further improvement plausible.

13:35 Warwick Handicap Chase (Class 3) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Connections of point-to-point winner SOUTHOFTHEBORDER waste little time in sending him over fences after a promising novice hurdle campaign last season. An opening mark of 126 could prove lenient on his return from a 360-day layoff and market support for Nicky Henderson's charge would increase confidence. Leader In The Park made it second-time lucky when scoring over the larger obstacles at Kempton on Boxing Day and a 4lb higher mark is unlikely to prevent another bold bid. Chase debutant Ramo is also worth a second look.

LEADER IN THE PARK looked the useful chasing prospect his physique and efforts over hurdles suggested he would be when leaving his reappearance run well behind to score at Kempton on Boxing Day and he can defy a 4 lb rise with further progress likely. The highly-regarded Southoftheborder is the obvious threat switched to fences on his belated return, with Galassian best of the others.

With further progress likely, LEADER IN THE PARK (nap) can follow up his Kempton win. Southoftheborder is second pick.

14:08 Warwick Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 25f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Punters will need to be in a forgiving mood to side with IKARAK but it may pay to do so. He showed a likeable attitude when scoring over C&D on his seasonal return in November, before pulling up in a deeper race at Aintree most recently. Off 3lb higher than his last winning mark, he could bounce back. Warranty arrives on the back of a couple of runner-up efforts and he merits respect in a bid to go one better. Land Genie is also one for the shortlist.

LAND GENIE won with plenty in hand here on New Year's Eve and remains unexposed over staying trips for his excellent yard. Sporty Jim has placed here on a couple of occasions and could outrun his odds with a stronger pace to aim at. Warranty and Ikarak should be thereabouts also.

It could be onwards and upwards for LAND GENIE who has made a good start for the Skeltons following a wind operation.

Notched third success in that sphere when returning to action here on New Year's Eve and, if able to translate that improved form back over hurdles, he will be a danger to all.

14:40 Warwick Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 19f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

A strong case can be made for a few of these and only a tentative vote goes to IDEALLKO. Evan Williams' charge did it well when landing a 2m chase here last month and, stepping up in trip off 1lb higher on his return to hurdles, he could prove tough to stop. Fellow last-time-out winner Emma Hamilton could emerge as the main danger to the selection for all that a 6lb rise demands more of her. Greenways is respected most out of the remainder.

AUNTY CHRISTINE makes her handicap debut on the back of an encouraging display in what looked a decent novice at Catterick last month and she earns the vote ahead of the in-form pair Emma Hamilton and Ideallko. The former is feared most on account of the fact that Ideallko needs to prove that he can reproduce something akin to his improved chase form now returning to this sphere. Greenways shouldn't be too far away and Rockette needs a market check.

Back up in distance, GREENWAYS gets the verdict. Ideallko and Emma Hamilton are other strong contenders on form.

15:15 Warwick Handicap Chase (Class 4) 26f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

CHATSHOW TV lost little in defeat when finishing runner-up over an inadequate 2m3f over hurdles at Chepstow on his seasonal return in October and that should have teed him up nicely for a tilt at this prize. He gets the nod to make his chasing debut a winning one at the chief expense of Lunar Contact, who pulled up when bidding for a four-timer in a deeper race last time out but could land a blow now eased in grade. Zero Tolerance can also go well.

ALWAYS BUSY has taken well to fences and should be suited by the return to further, so shades the vote over Zero Tolerance, who has a similar profile to the selection. Keppel Queen and Chatshow Tv are a couple of interesting newcomers to this sphere so need considering, too.

This looks open. KEPPEL QUEEN and Chatshow Tv are just the types to do better over fences. The O'Neill runner edges preference.

15:50 Warwick Hunter Chase (Class 6) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Still lightly-raced for his age, the formerly smart DUSART gets the nod to score. He was still going well when unseating his rider on his debut for this stable in a point-to-point last month and provided he is none the worse for that mishap, he could have too much in his locker for this opposition. Lord Du Mesnil showed flashes of useful form in defeat last term and it would be no surprise if he had a part to play on his seasonal return. Eva's Oskar looks the pick of the rest.

A smart handicap chaser in his pomp, LORD DU MESNIL gets the nod to make a successful start in this discipline and provide owner/jockey David Maxwell with another winner at the expense of Eva's Oskar, who could prove a tough nut to crack pitched into a hunter chase if anywhere near his best following a 15-month absence (trainer/jockey combination successful in similar event at Taunton earlier in month). Lift Me Up and Bennys King can fight out minor honours.

A few of these have plenty of back-class but also questions to answer on various counts. JEUX D'EAU could be the emerging force.
