Rock D'ete |
(4) ( )() | (4) Rock D'ete , £2,000 6-y-o, Kap Rock gelding. Dam 15f hurdle winner in France. Off mark in points at third attempt (May 7). Market should offer up some clues on Rules debut. Hooded. Engaged 4.00 Worcester Thursday. Maiden point winner in May; lost touch on hurdle debut at Worcester yesterday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (1) (0.15/1 +63%) Liverpool Knight |
0.15/1(+63%) | (1) Liverpool Knight 0.15/1, Fairly useful on Flat (stays 1¾m) and built on the promise of his hurdling debut at the second time of asking when landing 7-runner C&D novice (heavy) 17 days ago, just shaken up to assert. Return to less testing ground won't inconvenience him and he looks up to defying a penalty. Drew clear to win readily by 8l over C&D this month; the one to beat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (7.5/1 +63%) Seefin |
7.5/1(+63%) | (5) Seefin 7.5/1, Failed to complete in points but stepped up on her hurdling/Rules debut when fifth in 11-runner novice at Worcester (20f) 18 days ago, finishing with running left. Drop in trip not sure to suit, though. Has shown only minor promise on first two hurdling starts but might collect a minor prize. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (18/1 -80%) Just A Mystery |
18/1(-80%) | (3) Just A Mystery 18/1, Offered more than on his hurdling debut for John J. Costello when fifth of 11 in maiden hurdle at Stratford (16.3f, good) 12 days ago. May do better again. Struggled in Ireland but recent stable debut was quite encouraging. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (22/1 +21%) Hedera Park |
22/1(+21%) | (8) Hedera Park 22/1, Fair in bumpers and offered something to work on under a much more patient ride on her recent Stratford hurdling debut (16.3f). May do better. Behind Just A Mystery when seventh on recent hurdle debut; needs a good step forward. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (20/1 +39%) Ar El Bee |
20/1(+39%) | (6) Ar El Bee 20/1, Fairly useful maiden on the Flat (stays 1m) for David Menuisier who seemed held back by lack of fitness and experience when comfortably held on last month's Southwell hurdling debut. Entitled to do better. Become disappointing on the Flat last year and last month's hurdle debut was unconvincing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (2) (50/1 -79%) Burrows Light |
50/1(-79%) | (2) Burrows Light 50/1, Showed a bit more than first time up when third of 4 in bumper at Market Rasen (16.6f, good) 35 days ago. Makes hurdles debut. Didn't show a great deal in his two bumpers; improvement needed on hurdle debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
LIVERPOOL KNIGHT appeared revitalised by a 150-day break when gaining a first success in this sphere over C&D earlier in the month, and a 7lb penalty may not be enough to prevent Olly Murphy's gelding from going in again. Just A Mystery posted a fair fifth on stable debut at Stratford recently and a similar level of performance should see the five-year-old involved here, along with Hedera Park.
LIVERPOOL KNIGHT opened his hurdles account in ready fashion over C&D 17 days ago and, with a return to less testing ground unlikely to inconvenience him, he's selected to defy a penalty. Star Legend has quite a bit of ground to make up with the selection but should get closer this time and rates the main threat.
Olly Murphy's LIVERPOOL KNIGHT delivered on last season's hurdling promise when winning pretty comfortably over C&D this month.

1st (10) (2.75/1 +54%) George Mallory |
2.75/1(+54%) | (10) George Mallory 2.75/1, Yet to strike over hurdles following 15 attempts but he has hit the crossbar on a trio of occasions, latterly at Southwell 3 weeks ago. Merit is established but he can make his presence felt. 0-15 over hurdles but has made the frame on all three starts this season; in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (10/1 -150%) A Shining Moon |
10/1(-150%) | (7) A Shining Moon 10/1, Took advantage of a much-reduced Flat mark to get off the mark in first-time headgear at Pontefract in May. Collared close home back hurdling at Hexham a month ago and he's now of extreme interest. Won on the Flat in May and was close third on last month's handicap hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (7.5/1 -50%) Good Impression |
7.5/1(-50%) | (6) Good Impression 7.5/1, Back on track when landing 11-runner handicap at Newton Abbot in June. Safely held both starts on the level but better expected returned to timber. Recent Flat form is underwhelming but won off 3lb lower over hurdles last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (5.5/1 +21%) Colonel Lesley |
5.5/1(+21%) | (9) Colonel Lesley 5.5/1, Back from a break and cashed in on a career-low mark in gritty fashion at Stratford in August. Followed up 12 days later at Newton Abbot but off since and has moved yards. Won twice last August but today's stable debut comes after a ten-month absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (11) (40/1 -82%) African Sun |
40/1(-82%) | (11) African Sun 40/1, Won over C&D last summer but has rarely threatened since and makes limited appeal given errant jumping. Surprise C&D winner last summer but subsequent record not persuasive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (3/1 +57%) Lightening Company |
3/1(+57%) | (4) Lightening Company 3/1, Pretty useful Flat winner but nowhere near that level over hurdles so far, including when switched to handicap company at Hexham last month. Too soon to write off in this sphere but hard to be confident about. Well beaten on handicap hurdle debut but Flat form offers hope he can do much better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (7.5/1 -15%) Theonlywayiswessex |
7.5/1(-15%) | (2) Theonlywayiswessex 7.5/1, Fair form on Flat for this yard winning brace of AW handicaps in early 2023. Little to get excited about over hurdles but he's not yet exposed and has had a breathing op. Dual AW winner this year and still unexposed over hurdles; could have a say. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (9/1 +10%) Silver Atom |
9/1(+10%) | (8) Silver Atom 9/1, Lightly-raced maiden who ran his best race to date when fifth of 17 on handicap debut at Doncaster (16.6f) in January. Couple of heavy defeats soon after but he's been given a break/wind operation. Ran well on handicap debut in January but two lesser efforts followed; back from break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (22/1 -38%) Demi Sang |
22/1(-38%) | (1) Demi Sang 22/1, Scored twice for this yard during 2021/22 campaign but not at the same level in 2 starts for Micky Hammond last summer. Back with Sara Ender and almost certainly needed the run on last month's return to action. This will reveal more with a tongue strap back on. Made low-key return from one-year absence last month; others have less to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
COLONEL LESLEY displayed a willing attitude when recording a quick-fire double at Stratford and Newton Abbot last season. The seven-year-old has since joined the Brian Barr yard and a hat-trick looks likely off only 3lb higher. Good Impression and George Mallory are other interesting contenders, with the former feared most on the basis that he's a two-time C&D winner and was in good form when last competing in this sphere.
Having won on the level in May, A SHINING MOON looked to have the race won back hurdling at Hexham, only to be collared late. That performance suggests he's up to landing a race such as this, with Theonlywayiswessex and Colonel Lesley, on return for a new yard, feared most.
Ben Haslam's LIGHTENING COMPANY was well beaten on his handicap hurdle debut but remains of strong interest if judged on Flat form.

1st (3) (6/1 -20%) Ambassador |
6/1(-20%) | (3) Ambassador 6/1, Belatedly capitalised on a falling mark in 12-runner C&D handicap (good) 26 days ago (final start for Martin Keighley). Raised 6 lb but still has handicapping scope on best form now setting out for new trainer Micky Hammond. Comfortable win over C&D last time and he's respected off 6lb higher for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (1.5/1 +0%) Rock On Tommy |
1.5/1(+0%) | (5) Rock On Tommy 1.5/1, Bidding for a third C&D win of the month under Lewis Stones. Saw off Ten Past Midnight by 3½ lengths last week and should be able to do so again as he escapes a penalty for that. Hard to beat. Has scored over C&D in last two runs and escapes a penalty for his last win; strong claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (3/1 +20%) Ten Past Midnight |
3/1(+20%) | (7) Ten Past Midnight 3/1, Won 3 on the bounce in 2021 and also hit the target at Southwell last summer. Back-to-form when 3½ lengths second of 8 to Rock On Tommy over C&D last week. Should go well but no obvious reason why he'll turn the tables on that reopposing rival. Returned to form with a second behind Rock On Tommy over C&D last week; in the mix again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (7/1 +42%) Bentham |
7/1(+42%) | (4) Bentham 7/1, Thirty runs since last win in 2020. Took a step back in the right direction for his new stable when 12¾ lengths third of 12 to Ambassador in C&D handicap (good, 22/1) 26 days ago. Needs to build on that now. Placed over C&D latest but was 13l behind Ambassador and his last win was three years ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (40/1 -150%) Naasik |
40/1(-150%) | (10) Naasik 40/1, Remains a maiden after 35 runs. Finally showed some ability remains when third at Southwell (2m, good to soft) 25 days ago but whether he backs it up remains to be seen. Fair third at Southwell last time but he's now 0-35 and is hard to predict. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (80/1 -21%) Kracquer |
80/1(-21%) | (6) Kracquer 80/1, First run since leaving Alastair Ralph when unseated first in C&D handicap by Ambassador earlier this month. The fact he went off 50/1 suggests there wasn't much confidence behind him. Eight-race maiden for four different yards and has struggled in his four handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (66/1 -230%) Ascot Day |
66/1(-230%) | (8) Ascot Day 66/1, Runner-up twice in handicap hurdles in spring 2022 but lightly raced and little impact on the Flat since. His latest run after a year off may have been needed but he returns to hurdles with something to prove. Tailed off on his Flat comeback two weeks ago and this looks tough back over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (16/1 -60%) Thorpeness |
16/1(-60%) | (1) Thorpeness 16/1, Well beaten in 2 bumpers but has shown a good deal more over hurdles with a tongue strap added this spring. His opening mark isn't obviously generous but he's still respected as an unexposed sort from a top stable. Well-related 5yo who still has potential and is an interesting contender on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (200/1 -300%) Andonno |
200/1(-300%) | (11) Andonno 200/1, Modest Flat performer. Offered little over hurdles in 2021, including a handicap, and could only consider if the market vibes are notably strong on his return from an absence. Still only a 5yo but he has a lot to prove after 681 days off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (2) (8/1 +20%) Greatness Awaits |
8/1(+20%) | (2) Greatness Awaits 8/1, Fair on Flat (stays 1½m). Yet to better modest form over hurdles but handicaps do provide him with a more realistic chance. Unexposed in this sphere and he's a possible improver on his handicap hurdle debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
ROCK ON TOMMY arrives here off 1lb lower than last Wednesday's C&D success in a conditional jockeys' event, and the son of Fair Mix is hard to oppose in his current mood. Ten Past Midnight wasn't far behind in second on that occasion and could finish closer with Sean Bowen now taking over in the saddle. A bigger threat, however, could emerge from last-time-out winner Ambassador, who is only 6lb higher.
ROCK ON TOMMY escapes a penalty for last week's success in a conditional jockeys' event and can complete a quickfire C&D hat-trick. Ten Past Midnight chased home the selection last week and can fill the forecast spot again ahead of Ambassador, who has changed yards since his C&D win earlier in the month.
This can go to ROCK ON TOMMY, who has won over C&D in his last two starts and escapes a penalty for his comfortable success last week.

1st (1) (8.5/1 +15%) Do No Wrong |
8.5/1(+15%) | (1) Do No Wrong 8.5/1, Hurdles winner who left his chase debut effort well behind when off the mark at Cartmel (21f) in May. Fell at Bangor (3m) next time and some way below his best when well held fourth at Southwell (20.4f) 32 days ago. Eased 1 lb ahead of this. Claims if judged on Cartmel win in May but has very mixed record over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (1.38/1 +61%) He Is A Cracker |
1.38/1(+61%) | (7) He Is A Cracker 1.38/1, Maiden who almost justified support on the back of 15 months off when second over hurdles at Warwick (25f) in May, edged out on line with his rider having dropped whip. Not disgraced by any means when third here latest and appeals as a likely player returned to chasing from this mark. Placed in both chases in 2021 and back from long layoff with two good hurdle runs in May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (4/1 +11%) Eightytwo Team |
4/1(+11%) | (6) Eightytwo Team 4/1, Long-standing maiden in Ireland who finally bucked that trend equipped with a first-time tongue tie at Southwell (24.2f) 10 days ago, rallying to lead again after the last and driven out. However, she doesn't appeal as an obvious follow-up candidate under a penalty. Belatedly off the mark at Southwell last week; player if able to buid on that success. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (5.5/1 -22%) Prince Cleni |
5.5/1(-22%) | (4) Prince Cleni 5.5/1, Little form over hurdles but much improved over fences this summer and landed (tongue strap on for 1st time) 10-runner handicap chase at Southwell (24.3f, good) in June. Jumping let him down at Perth (23.8f) earlier this month but bounce back not ruled out. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Flopped last time but was in very good form in the spring and may still have potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (3.5/1 -100%) Mystic Man |
3.5/1(-100%) | (3) Mystic Man 3.5/1, Point winner. Achieved little over hurdles but different proposition switched to chasing, having little trouble in making it 2-2 at Fakenham (3m) in June. That was a weak affair but he remains open to improvement particularly if his jumping sharpens up. 2-2 since switched to fences this season (2m3f/3m); likely contender. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
This could go the way of the hat-trick seeking MYSTIC MAN, who is yet to put a foot wrong since making the switch from hurdling to chasing in May. He has gone up 8lb following a facile win over this distance at Fakenham last month and shaped as though there would be more to come. He gets the vote ahead of Eightytwo Team, who has to shoulder a 7lb penalty following a two-length success at Southwell. Prince Cleni completes the shortlist.
Having confirmed he retains all of his ability on the back of a lengthy absence over hurdles in recent months, HE IS A CRACKER makes appeal from this sort of mark with his attentions now switched back to chasing and earns the vote. Mystic Man, who is 2-2 in this sphere, rates a lead threat, ahead of Prince Cleni.
Preference is for PRINCE CLENI, who needs to bounce back from a disappointing effort but began this season with two good runs.

1st (5) (3.33/1 +0%) Hungry Hill |
3.33/1(+0%) | (5) Hungry Hill 3.33/1, Bounced back to form after 8 weeks off when second of 8 in handicap hurdle at Perth (23.9f, good) 22 days ago. Can do better still so he's very much one to consider. Runner-up in two of his three handicaps including at Perth (3m, good) last time; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (6/1 +33%) Lelantos |
6/1(+33%) | (6) Lelantos 6/1, Arrives in good nick, third of 8 in handicap hurdle at Southwell (24.3f, good to soft) 25 days ago. Can go well again. Has a mixed record since his Bangor win last July and he comes with risks attached. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (5.5/1 +8%) Classic Concorde |
5.5/1(+8%) | (9) Classic Concorde 5.5/1, Twenty runs since his last win in 2020 but he posted a good second of 12 in handicap hurdle at Worcester (23f, good to soft) 18 days ago. Can make his presence felt again. Bounced back with good second back over hurdles at Worcester; in the mix again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (8/1 -78%) Millie Of Mayo |
8/1(-78%) | (10) Millie Of Mayo 8/1, Three-time winner in 2020 but lightly raced since and only fifth of 7 in handicap hurdle at Perth (23.9f, good) 34 days ago. More is required. Missed last year and has struggled in both runs in 2023; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (16/1 -14%) Aviewtosea |
16/1(-14%) | (1) Aviewtosea 16/1, Cheekpieces on for 1st time when well-held fourth of 5 in handicap chase at Perth (23.8f, good) 34 days ago on his final run for Fergal O'Brien. Has it to prove back hurdling on his yard debut. Tailed off at Perth last time and has something to prove back over hurdles for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (33/1 -18%) On We Go |
33/1(-18%) | (7) On We Go 33/1, Three-time winner last spring/summer. Recent efforts haven't been encouraging, however, and others are preferred. Only 1lb higher than for last success but she needs a major revival; cheekpieces removed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (4) (1.5/1 +25%) Broomfields Cave |
1.5/1(+25%) | (4) Broomfields Cave 1.5/1, Point winner who got off the mark in this sphere in 3m Southwell handicap 32 days ago, well on top at the finish. Big player despite a 7 lb rise. Clearcut win at Southwell and he's open to more progress at staying trips; big player. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A comfortable winner over an extended 3m at Southwell last month, BROOMFIELDS CAVE boasts leading claims if anywhere near that form, and Neil Mulholland's six-year-old looks the one to beat off 7lb higher. He has been steadily progressive of late and can get the better of Hungry Hill, who finished a creditable second off 3lb lower at Perth last time out. Classic Concorde is another to bear in mind.
A few with chances but it's hard to side against BROOMFIELDS CAVE who remains unexposed as a stayer and can defy a 7 lb rise in the weights after his emphatic win at Southwell. Hungry Hill is feared most on the back of his resurgent Perth second, with the consistent Lelantos well in the mix too.
6yo BROOMFIELDS CAVE (nap) justified favouritism in good style at Southwell and is open to more progress in staying handicaps.

1.2/1(+64%) | (5) Mutual Respect 1.2/1, Remains a maiden after 21 runs and was again let down by his jumping returned to chasing at Market Rasen 19 days ago. 21-race maiden who was well held back over fences last time; others are more convincing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (1.25/1 +55%) Casa Tall |
1.25/1(+55%) | (2) Casa Tall 1.25/1, Three-time winner over fences but below his best for a while now, fourth of 8 in handicap chase at Market Rasen (19.2f, good) 49 days ago. Change of headgear. One to consider. His last win was in November 2021 and he needs to find something extra in new headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (5/1 +0%) Designer Destiny |
5/1(+0%) | (4) Designer Destiny 5/1, Fair form in bumpers and in a light campaign over hurdles. However, well held both starts after 27 months off. Lightly raced 9yo who needs a transformation on her handicap/chase debut; tongue-tie on. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
FIRST REVOLUTION has a decent record when returning from a break, so from just 3lb higher than May's Hexham success he might be worth siding with. Casa Tall is a three-time winner over fences and looks best placed to chase the selection home sporting first-time blinkers and with Harry Cobden keeping the ride, while Designer Destiny may improve in the tongue-tie and is another worthy of consideration.
A badly cut-up field and FIRST REVOLUTION looks the most likely to take advantage, having been given a short break since his back-to-form win at Hexham. Casa Tall is the obvious danger.
The vote goes to FIRST REVOLUTION, who was a comfortable winner at Hexham last time and has just a 3lb rise.

3/1(+14%) | (6) Presently 3/1, Flat-bred filly who offered some encouragement when fourth at Bangor a couple of months ago. More to come and Brian Hughes booked, so worthy of respect. Fourth under Brian Hughes at Bangor, beaten under 7l; should be wiser this time. |

12/1(+25%) | (5) Newmill Getaway 12/1, 5,000 gns 3-y-o, Getaway filly. Fourth sole start in Irish points (May 7). Likely to be brought along gradually. Beaten about 5l in an Irish point; front three from that event are unraced since. |

4th (1) (0.83/1 -34%) Gone Away Madam |
0.83/1(-34%) | (1) Gone Away Madam 0.83/1, Blue Bresil mare who made the perfect start over C&D 41 days ago and is fancied to maintain her unbeaten record despite the penalty. Won easily here in June, comfortably accounting for a previous winner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (10/1 +29%) Rory's Story |
10/1(+29%) | (7) Rory's Story 10/1, From a good family and, while she was pulled up in a point, she indicated that she possesses ability when third at Hexham on Rules debut. Could step forward from that. Pulled up in a point but showed ability when third at Hexham; likely to need more here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (66/1 -32%) Tara Vango |
66/1(-32%) | (8) Tara Vango 66/1, Ocovango filly. Dam modest 19f hurdle winner. Wears hood. Not an obvious sort on paper. Dam 2m3f hurdle winner, out of a maiden sister to German 1m2f Listed winner El Tiger. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
GONE AWAY MADAM bolted up over course and distance on her racecourse bow and the daughter of Blue Bresil is hard to oppose under a penalty. Dontmesswithme shaped with promise when filling the runner-up spot at Newton Abbot 11 days ago and must enter calculations with improvement likely, along with Presently, who was well found in the market ahead of May's Bangor debut. Berg Nellie is also noted.
GONE AWAY MADAM was off the mark at the first attempt here last month and she's probably up to defying a penalty for all that Dontmesswithme and Presently are both open to improvement.
Presently ran a nice first race at Bangor but GONE AWAY MADAM should take some beating even with a penalty.
Ths is the racecard key.

This is the 16:15 Kempton race from the video above backed at 28/1 earlier in the day.
Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing.
