Jack's A Legend |
(3) (5/1 +17%)5/1(+17%) | (3) Jack's A Legend 5/1, Showed a fair bit in bumpers and produced a standout effort over hurdles when third in a Newbury maiden back in December 2021. Not troubled the judge since, though, and makes limited appeal. Reverts to hurdling with quite a lot to prove but is well worth a glance in the betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (4) (12/1 +94%) Largy Gift |
12/1(+94%) | (4) Largy Gift 12/1, Shirocco gelding who showed fair form at best in 4 bumpers for Stuart Crawford. Pulled up in a pair of novice hurdles at Doncaster for current yard though. Easily opposed after 15 months off. Showed promise in bumpers when trained in Ireland but pulled up in both hurdles last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (2.5/1 -25%) Fortunate Fred |
2.5/1(-25%) | (1) Fortunate Fred 2.5/1, In the mix in a trio of maiden hurdles last summer. Failed to fire in two runs over fences last month but has the form to go close back in this sphere. Safely held in two chases last month but best hurdle form gives him claims here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (1.38/1 +21%) Tip Top Tonto |
1.38/1(+21%) | (5) Tip Top Tonto 1.38/1, Twice placed over hurdles and looked the likely winner when falling 2 out in 2m2f maiden at Newton Abbot when last seen out 11 months ago. Firmly in the picture if fully tuned up for his comeback run. Looked likely winner before falling at Newton Abbot last summer; back from layoff today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (11/1 +56%) Regal And Royal |
11/1(+56%) | (6) Regal And Royal 11/1, Pulled up with an irregular heartbeat in junior bumper on his debut but showed some ability when fifth of 12 in novice at Bangor (16.7f, good) on hurdles bow 12 days ago. Not ruled out. Ran well for a long way when fifth on recent hurdling debut; needs to improve here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (3.5/1 +42%) Falanghina |
3.5/1(+42%) | (7) Falanghina 3.5/1, 8/1, promising fourth of 11 in bumper at Hereford (16.2f, good to soft) on NH debut 143 days ago. Much respected on her hurdles debut. From a very good jumping family and shaped with promise on bumper debut in January. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (18/1 +55%) Hedgehopper |
18/1(+55%) | (2) Hedgehopper 18/1, Fight Club gelding. Dam multiple point winner. Maiden pointer, runner-up last 2 starts (latest May 28). Not ruled out now going hurdling. Second in two fast-ground points last month but faces a tougher assignment here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
FORTUNATE FRED continues to run well in defeat and first-time cheekpieces could induce the required improvement he needs to shed his maiden tag. A winner between the flags last month, Time For Joy warrants a market check ahead of her debut under Rules, as does Hedgehopper, while Tip Top Tonto sets the standard on official ratings and cannot be left out of calculations.
Most of these arrive with a question mark against them and FORTUNATE FRED looks the most solid option given his fitness is proven and he should prove suited by this return to hurdling after an unsuccessful stint chasing. Hurdling newcomer Falanghina shaped with promise on her bumper debut at Hereford so must enter calculations, while Tip Top Tonto has the form to go close if on song after an 11-month absence.
Hurdling debutante FALANGHINA shaped with promise on her bumper debut in January and is a half-sister to three very useful jumpers.

1st (4) (20/1 +20%) Fabreze |
20/1(+20%) | (4) Fabreze 20/1, Point winner in April but she hasn't made much of an impact in 5 starts under Rules, and a significant step forward will be needed now tried in cheekpieces if she's emerge on top here. Irish point winner in April and made fairly encouraging stable debut last week. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (3/1 +14%) Ma Belle Noire |
3/1(+14%) | (2) Ma Belle Noire 3/1, Showed ability in bumpers and placed on 4 of her half-a-dozen starts in this sphere. Looked rather awkward under pressure when third in first-time cheekpieces upped to 3m at Taunton (soft) but that was still a creditable effort and dropping back in trip here looks a good move. 0-6 over hurdles but placed in her last three handicaps; likely contender again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (9/1 -29%) Mrs Kinsella |
9/1(-29%) | (5) Mrs Kinsella 9/1, Decent effort when third at Hexham in April and, following 2 lesser efforts, she raised her game when hitting the crossbar at Worcester (2½m, good) on penultimate start. However, recent Southwell display was poor to put it mildly. Claims if judged on last month's Worcester second but ran very poorly ten days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (11/1 -22%) Born To Please |
11/1(-22%) | (6) Born To Please 11/1, Sole success from 22 hurdles starts was gained here back in 2019 but, to her credit, she has finished runner-up on 3 of her last 5 starts in this sphere, including when narrowly failing at Stratford (16.3f, soft) in April. Well held on the Flat recently but she's a player back hurdling. Well beaten on the Flat this month but finished well to go close on latest hurdle start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (40/1 -60%) Flora Paget |
40/1(-60%) | (1) Flora Paget 40/1, First piece of worthwhile form when third in an 8-runner Huntingdon novice (20.7f, good to soft) in April, albeit she never looked like laying a glove on the first 2. Improvement needed now that she makes the switch to handicap company. Improved form when placed at big odds in Huntingdon novice; handicap debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (3.5/1 +13%) Chancer Dancer |
3.5/1(+13%) | (3) Chancer Dancer 3.5/1, Irish raider who produced by far her best effort to date when finding just one too good in a big-field Hexham handicap (2½m, good) earlier this month. 2 lb nudge easy to swallow and likely to be on the premises once again. Placed in two big-field handicaps this spring (2m1f/2m4f) and must be considered here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (22/1 +33%) Dancing Dani |
22/1(+33%) | (9) Dancing Dani 22/1, Modest maiden hurdler who was runner-up at Ffos Las on the second of her 3 starts over fences. However, absent since October and she's essentially opposable back in this sphere. Sports first-time cheekpieces. Second in chase in October but off since lesser effort later than month; cheekpieces added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (10/1 -11%) Indelible Spin |
10/1(-11%) | (10) Indelible Spin 10/1, Fair third in 7-runner Huntingdon maiden (15.8f, good) last month, which represented a step forward compared to her previous efforts in this sphere. Moving up in trip for this hurdles debut could be a good thing and she's worth a second look. Just a modest third in a maiden last month but makes handicap debut from a lowly mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (50/1 -317%) Burrows Treat |
50/1(-317%) | (7) Burrows Treat 50/1, Looked in need of experience in a bumper and well held on sole completed start over hurdles, which was her latest appearance back in November 2021. Probably best watched on handicap debut. Makes handicap debut after very long layoff; yard's other one has much more obvious claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (2.5/1 +0%) Tango Arumba |
2.5/1(+0%) | (8) Tango Arumba 2.5/1, Irish point winner who made a winning bumper debut at Newton Abbot last June. Showed more than in her 4 previous attempts over hurdles following a wind op here (23.3f, soft) last month and possibilities if able to build on that back down in trip with cheekpieces enlisted. Ran much better than 25l defeat might suggest here last month; drops back from 2m7f today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
With cheekpieces applied for the first time, the Sheila Lewis-trained FABREZE could be the one. A point winner at Tralee in April, that experience ought to stand her in good stead, while a recent spin at Worcester should have blown away the cobwebs. Ma Belle Noire and Chancer Dancer look set to play a part in proceedings, while Indelible Spin can't be ruled out from the foot of the handicap.
A chance is taken on TANGO ARUMBA, who was bang there before giving way between the final two flights upped to 23.3f here last time. Eased 3 lb since and with both this drop back in trip and the addition of cheekpieces potentially positive factors, she could be about to take a step forward. Chancer Dancer will be a big threat if backing up her latest effort and, for all that she doesn't appear entirely straightforward, Ma Belle Noire is also shortlisted.
Placed in two big-field handicaps this spring, Irish-raider CHANCER DANCER is taken to open her hurdling account at the eighth attempt.

1st (4) (1.1/1 +20%) Supposedtobe |
1.1/1(+20%) | (4) Supposedtobe 1.1/1, Fair winner at 10f on Flat. Back on track for his new yard when sixth of 11 in novice hurdle at Down Royal (16.8f, good) 20 days ago. Holds good claims. Bettered disappointing stable bow when sixth in recent Down Royal maiden; big player here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (2.5/1 +38%) What Will Be |
2.5/1(+38%) | (5) What Will Be 2.5/1, Fair hurdler. Cheekpieces on for 1st time in this code, fair fourth of 7 in Flat handicap at Chelmsford City (14f) 49 days ago. Much respected switched to hurdles in first-time blinkers. Badly out of form over hurdles last season but won on the AW in April; tricky to weigh up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (2.25/1 -50%) Gold In Doha |
2.25/1(-50%) | (2) Gold In Doha 2.25/1, Lightly-raced maiden under NH rules. Good second of 8 in novice hurdle (11/2) at Fontwell (17.7f, good) 7 months ago on his final run for Harry Fry. Needs to back it up for his new stable now. Second in Fontwell novice for Harry Fry in November; makes stable debut here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (50/1 +24%) Numero Uno |
50/1(+24%) | (3) Numero Uno 50/1, Won at Taunton in April 2021 (sole start for Dr Richard Newland) but well beaten for new stable (including in points). Can only watch. Struggled off lowly marks in handicap hurdles last year and in points this spring. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
VORASHANN struggled in some warm handicaps at the end of last year, but he's the clear pick at these weights and is taken to regain the winning thread down in class. Stablemate Gold In Doha has further scope to progress and is the main danger, with Supposedtobe fancied to chase the pair home. What Will Be and Numero Uno will need more if they're to figure.
Most of these arrive with question marks against them so Irish raider SUPPOSEDTOBE looks the way to go on the back of his good Down Royal sixth. What Will Be rates the chief threat reverted to this sphere.
The one with least to prove is SUPPOSEDTOBE, who ran quite well in a Down Royal maiden three weeks ago.

1st (2) (2.75/1 +31%) No No Maestro |
2.75/1(+31%) | (2) No No Maestro 2.75/1, Three-time chase winner (also successful over hurdles) last summer and resumed from a 7-month break with an encouraging effort when second of 9 back in this sphere at Worcester (23f, good to soft). It'll be a concern if conditions are testing but the dry forecast offers hope in that regard. Dual course winner; ran well in defeat last month after a break; wants good ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (2.75/1 +54%) Gats And Co |
2.75/1(+54%) | (3) Gats And Co 2.75/1, Really got his act together in 2022, winning 4 staying handicap chases on the bounce. Below par since but the handicapper is showing mercy (now 2 lb below last winning mark) and he could have a part to play. Bumped into revitalised opponent when second last time and is another 2lb lower now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (2.5/1 +29%) Biowavego |
2.5/1(+29%) | (1) Biowavego 2.5/1, Winner of a maiden hurdle here last summer and bounced back following a couple of tame efforts when landing a Warwick handicap (25f, good to firm) last time. 4 lb higher now switched to fences and, with conditions no problem (has won on heavy), he will be a threat if his jumping passes the test. Bounced back to form with hurdle win last month; now makes his chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (4/1 +56%) Fairlawn Flyer |
4/1(+56%) | (5) Fairlawn Flyer 4/1, Made it 4-4 over fences here when landing a 23.8f Ffos Las handicap (heavy) in first-time cheekpieces in December. However, appears to have lost his way since and it's probably best to look elsewhere. Fortunate when winning in December and has been out of sorts this year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (12/1 +40%) Rust To Riches |
12/1(+40%) | (6) Rust To Riches 12/1, Off the mark between the flags last month but he hasn't shown a great deal under Rules since. Hopes pinned on the first-time blinkers sparking improvement. Point winner; ran okay in good hunter chase in May but pulled up on recent handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
POTTLERATH has justified favouritism at Worcester, Warwick and Bangor, and he is sure to have his supporters again. Matt Sheppard's representative can continue on his merry way, even though he is 17lb higher than when his winning spree began and he faces some in-form opponents, not least Warwick scorer Biowavego, who now embarks on a chasing career. No No Maestro and Gats And Co both found only one too strong on their latest outings and have place claims again.
Testing conditions would be a worry for NO NO MAESTRO but, in the hope that the ground isn't too slow, he could be the answer on the back of an encouraging reappearance spin at Worcester last month. Pottlerath needs a personal-best in order to complete the four-timer but he's seriously considered all the same, while Biowavego will be a threat if taking to fences at the first attempt and Gats And Co is dangerous to discount.
Thriving 8yo POTTLERATH, who has taken his form to a whole new level in recent weeks and is now bidding for his fourth win in a row.

1st (3) (2.25/1 +55%) Mothill |
2.25/1(+55%) | (3) Mothill 2.25/1, Arrives in good nick, second of 6 in handicap hurdle at Fontwell (19.2f, good to soft) 43 days ago, sticking to task. Can go well again. Second to progressive rivals on last two starts and still unexposed over this sort of trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (9/1 +10%) Mcgowan's Pass |
9/1(+10%) | (7) Mcgowan's Pass 9/1, 7/1, creditable third of 7 in handicap hurdle at Newcastle (16.9f, good to soft) 68 days ago. It's now 14 runs since his last win in 2020, however. Long in the tooth now but ended last season with two good runs; slow ground would suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (2.25/1 +55%) Captain Tom Cat |
2.25/1(+55%) | (2) Captain Tom Cat 2.25/1, Course winner. Eighth of 12 in handicap chase (7/1) at this course (20f, good to soft) 25 days ago, going off too hard. Switches to hurdles and holds good claims at these weights. Not a good as he was over fences but still useful; looks interesting off lower hurdle mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (9/1 -13%) Montgomery |
9/1(-13%) | (6) Montgomery 9/1, Fontwell debut hurdles winner before very good fourth of 6 in novice hurdle at Wetherby (19.7f, good) 127 days ago. Makes handicap hurdle debut. Open to more progress. Player. Very unexposed 6yo who won on hurdle debut in October; can improve in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (7.5/1 +25%) Salley Gardens |
7.5/1(+25%) | (4) Salley Gardens 7.5/1, Failed to build on reappearance promise when third of 6 in handicap hurdle at Warwick (21f, good to firm) 29 days ago. Still needs considering. Very encouraging third last month, after a layoff; race not run to suit on latest outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (4.5/1 -64%) Blue Shark |
4.5/1(-64%) | (5) Blue Shark 4.5/1, Made it 6-7 with a career best in 7-runner handicap hurdle (4/1) at Southwell (20.4f, good) 38 days ago. Up another 6 lb but merits serious consideration in his current mood. Scored at Southwell last month and is now 6-8 in handicaps; further progress possible. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Stepping up from 2m has been the making of BLUE SHARK and he registered his sixth success from his last seven starts when digging deep at Southwell. Jonjo O'Neill's charge tends not to win by far so the handicapper may not have caught up with him just yet. Mothill went close at Fontwell, while Shallow River's narrow Market Rasen defeat signalled a welcome return to form. Captain Tom Cat is well treated in this sphere compared to his chase rating and is also noted.
A few with chances but BLUE SHARK made it six victories from his last seven outings at Southwell last month and is hard to side against. Handicap debutant Montgomery and the in-form Mothill rate the chief threats and can chase home Jonjo O'Neill's prolific winner in that order.
The pick is MOTHILL (nap), who was close second to a dual subsequent winner last month and may still have untapped potential over 2m4f.

1st (6) (2.75/1 +0%) Arbennig |
2.75/1(+0%) | (6) Arbennig 2.75/1, Opened account in a Fakenham handicap last May and reappearance third at Ludlow was pretty encouraging. Failed to build on that next time but now 2 lb lower and he's in with a shout. Back from layoff with two respectable runs this spring and probably won't be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (4.5/1 +50%) Lonimoss Bareliere |
4.5/1(+50%) | (7) Lonimoss Bareliere 4.5/1, Good second in a Southwell handicap chase (15.8f, good to soft) in March but has failed to back that up since and record stands at 0-19 over jumps. Good second at Southwell but this 25-race maiden has an unappealing overall profile. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (1.62/1 +7%) Somewhat Cloudy |
1.62/1(+7%) | (2) Somewhat Cloudy 1.62/1, In good form over hurdles prior to making a winning chase bow at Market Rasen (17f, soft) in March. Creditable efforts in defeat at Wetherby and Perth since and should make her presence felt if subsequent wind op helps eke out a bit more. Won on chasing debut in March and both subsequent runs were very respectable; good chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (4/1 +56%) Glan Y Gors |
4/1(+56%) | (4) Glan Y Gors 4/1, Hit the target off 2 lb higher at Cartmel last July and, though rather hit-and-miss since, he should at least be ready to roll following a couple of spins on the Flat. Not discounted. Recent Flat form is uninspiring but he won a chase off 2lb higher last year; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (12/1 +64%) Kalyptra |
12/1(+64%) | (3) Kalyptra 12/1, Fair efforts initially over hurdles but hasn't made an impact for several different yards since going down the handicap route, including on chase debut at Worcester. 0-8 under rules for six different trainers; pulled up when 33-1 for stable/chase debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Connections of Duke Of Luckley turn to a first-time visor following his disappointing run over 2m4f at Huntingdon in April, and he can take advantage of a drop in trip. He is now rated 5lb below his last winning mark, but SOMEWHAT CLOUDY has been consistent of late and is fancied to get the better of the six-year-old. She has had wind surgery following a third-placed effort at Perth last month. Arbennig rates best of the rest.
If able to cut out the early mistakes that put him on the back foot last time, ARBENNIG will be a serious player off a mark 6 lb below that off which he opened his chase account last May. Duke of Luckley hasn't gone on from his debut success in this sphere but it wouldn't be the biggest of surprises were he to bounce back now tried in more severe headgear. The mare Somewhat Cloudy is best of the rest.
Donald McCain's mare SOMEWHAT CLOUDY has made a pretty solid start to her chasing career this year and has a good opportunity here.

Remains fairly treated and another bold bid anticipated. Off the mark with an emphatic win over C&D (good) and she's a big player again up 5lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (3.33/1 +45%) Jack The Farmer |
3.33/1(+45%) | (5) Jack The Farmer 3.33/1, Remains a maiden after 17 NH runs but has made the frame in all 4 starts for Nigel Hawke, latest when creditable second in Huntingdon handicap (25.1f, good) 24 days ago. Warrants respect. 17-race maiden but he's been placed in all four runs for this yard; each-way claims again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (4.5/1 +44%) Gamigin |
4.5/1(+44%) | (2) Gamigin 4.5/1, Yet to score over hurdles but arrives on back of respectable fourth of 25 in handicap at Punchestown (19.6f, good) 11 days ago. Cheekpieces reapplied. Could be a player. Dual Flat winner but he's 0-15 over hurdles and has struggled in his five runs this year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (12/1 -50%) Mistertommyshelby |
12/1(-50%) | (8) Mistertommyshelby 12/1, Little in the way of solid form to date and, back from lengthy absence, he finished well held at Warwick last month. Hard to recommend. Ten-race maiden with an unconvincing record and others are preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (12/1 +40%) Here's Bingo |
12/1(+40%) | (7) Here's Bingo 12/1, Long-standing maiden who was fit from points when third of 5 in Fontwell handicap hurdle (25.8f) 6 days ago. Makes limited appeal off current mark. 0-18 under rules and was a well-held third of five back over hurdles last week. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (6.5/1 -8%) Hatchet Jack |
6.5/1(-8%) | (6) Hatchet Jack 6.5/1, Run with credit in both outings for Chris Gordon, latest when third of 12 in handicap hurdle (7/2) at Plumpton (25f, good to firm) 39 days ago. However, still looking for first success under Rules after 23 starts (is a point winner). Fair efforts back over hurdles in his last two starts but he's now 0-23 under rules. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (7/1 +30%) Tre A Peni |
7/1(+30%) | (9) Tre A Peni 7/1, Posted a couple of solid placed efforts this term, latest when third of 7 in handicap hurdle at Ffos Las (23.9f, good) 26 days ago. Visor now added and can make presence felt. 2 lb out of the weights. Finished third over C&D and at Ffos Las last month; in the mix again in new headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (6/1 +14%) The Gooner |
6/1(+14%) | (1) The Gooner 6/1, Irish point winner who posted an encouraging fourth on handicap debut at Wetherby (3m) in January. Disappointed on quicker ground at Worcester latest but must enter calculations in first-time visor here. Still early days over hurdles but he needs more progress in first-time visor. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
An emphatic winner over C&D last month, BABY JANE rates the one to beat and a 5lb raised mark for that success looks unlikely to hold her back. The fact she was only narrowly denied at Catterick in January last year off 2lb lower must make her of significant interest. Coconut Twist has been knocking on the door of late and is feared most, while Hatchet Jack completes the shortlist.
Preference is for BABY JANE, who got off the mark in decisive fashion here last month and remains feasibly treated. Coconut Twist and Gamigin are feared most.
The vote goes to BABY JANE, who was an emphatic winner over C&D last month and is open to more progress in staying handicaps.
Ths is the racecard key.
