1st (6) (2.5/1 -150%) Liberalist |
2.5/1(-150%) | (6) Liberalist 2.5/1, Beaten 9 lengths when second on debut and stepped up on that form when third of 13 at Newmarket (7f, soft) in October. Capable of better again and looks to have been found a nice opening here.
2nd (3) (6.5/1 +41%) Classic Puzzle |
6.5/1(+41%) | (3) Classic Puzzle 6.5/1, Zoffany half-sister to several winners, including smart 6f winner Tabdeed and winner up to 7f Glengarra. Makes some paper appeal and market support worth noting given that the yard had a novice winner last month.
3rd (2) (2/1 +40%) Anjo Bonita |
2/1(+40%) | (2) Anjo Bonita 2/1, Fair form when placed 4 times at up 1m as a juvenile, including C&D. Likely to be thereabouts again.
4th (5) (33/1 +0%) Greek Siren |
33/1(+0%) | (5) Greek Siren 33/1, Just modest form in 2 outings at the end of last summer and will need improvement to play a prominent role on her return to action.
5th (8) (11/1 +61%) Tamay Girl |
11/1(+61%) | (8) Tamay Girl 11/1, 40/1, third on Newcastle debut in December but went backwards from that when only eighth there last month.
6th (4) (3.5/1 +30%) Congruent |
3.5/1(+30%) | (4) Congruent 3.5/1, Better effort in 2 outings on AW 5 months apart when 2 lengths fourth of 7 at Newcastle (1m) in February. Has the potential for better again.
7th (7) (12/1 +0%) Lucidity |
12/1(+0%) | (7) Lucidity 12/1, Has shown definite ability in her 2 starts but she's probably more one for handicaps after this.
8th (1) (125/1 -213%) Heerbegood |
125/1(-213%) | (1) Heerbegood 125/1, Heeraat filly. Half-sister to 6f winner First Excel. Dam 6f/7f winner. Wears tongue strap. Watching brief is advised on this belated debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Anjo Bonita has finished in the frame in all bar one of her five previous starts (twice here) and can go well again, while Liberalist also showed promise in two runs last season and is respected on her return. However, CLASSIC PUZZLE, who is a half-sister to the Group 3-winning sprinter Tabdeed, appeals on pedigree and could make a winning start on her debut.
LIBERALIST shaped well when third at Newmarket in the autumn and should prove a tough nut to crack. Anjo Bonita was consistent at 2 and gets the nod for the forecast spot ahead of Congruent.
This looks between Anjo Bonita and LIBERALIST with the latter, a good third at Newmarket on her second start, just preferred.

22/1(+21%) | (5) Rwenearlytheredad 22/1, €9,000 2-y-o, Havana Grey gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including 6f winner Seprani and 11.5f winner Elysian Lady. Dam lightly-raced half-sister to smart winner up to 7f Ittetsu.

9th (9) (7.5/1 -67%) Stella Blue |
7.5/1(-67%) | (9) Stella Blue 7.5/1, Ran with promise on debut at Beverley this time last year and looked in need of outing on return at Southwell 35 days ago. Must enter calculations. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Stella Blue finished fourth of five in a similar contest at Southwell 35 days ago and merits respect. However, GEMINI STAR showed plenty of promise on debut and, given how well that form has panned out, the daughter of Starspangledbanner looks the pick of this bunch. Bangles Joe and Aclaim To Fame are interesting debutants and should be noted in the betting.
GEMINI STAR acquitted herself well on debut at Haydock in the autumn and can get off the mark here. Stella Blue and Chattel Village look the likeliest dangers.
After her promising debut in the autumn, GEMINI STAR is by far the most appealing option in this modest maiden.

1st (5) (6/1 +33%) A Day To Dream |
6/1(+33%) | (5) A Day To Dream 6/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 9/2, last of 7 in nursery at Wolverhampton (8.6f) in August, going in snatches and soon beaten. Significantly up in trip ahead of return and yard amongst the winners.
2nd (10) (3.5/1 +22%) Edwina Sheeran |
3.5/1(+22%) | (10) Edwina Sheeran 3.5/1, Maiden who wasn't disgraced tackling this trip for the first time when fourth of 8 in handicap at Southwell (12.1f) in January, off bridle before most and making late headway. Not out of things returned to turf from her lowly mark.
3rd (7) (3.2/1 +9%) Philos |
3.2/1(+9%) | (7) Philos 3.2/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 6/1, third of 5 in handicap at Wolverhampton (12.2f) 25 days ago. Not out of things with a repeat now returned to turf.
4th (2) (12/1 -20%) Queenmambo |
12/1(-20%) | (2) Queenmambo 12/1, Maiden who ran best race to date (granted run of the race) when third at Newcastle (1m) in February. Not in same form either start since on AW so marked step up in trip needs to have positive effect now switched back to turf.
5th (4) (8/1 +20%) Stelios |
8/1(+20%) | (4) Stelios 8/1, 50/1, seventh of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 17 days ago, keeping on having not been ideally placed. Not out of things now stepping up further in trip on turf debut.
6th (13) (125/1 -213%) Miss Raindrop |
125/1(-213%) | (13) Miss Raindrop 125/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 300/1, last of 11 in minor event at Newcastle (8f) 21 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Makes handicap debut.
7th (1) (6.5/1 +19%) Ten Bob Note |
6.5/1(+19%) | (1) Ten Bob Note 6.5/1, Only minor encouragement in trio of maiden/novice events towards back end of last year but switch to handicaps rates a plus on return/having been gelded and interesting what the market makes of him. Up in trip.
8th (8) (5.5/1 +8%) Spare Rib |
5.5/1(+8%) | (8) Spare Rib 5.5/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 200/1, last of 11 in minor event at Lingfield (8f, AW) 45 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Makes handicap debut.
9th (9) (12/1 -50%) Wadacre Inca |
12/1(-50%) | (9) Wadacre Inca 12/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 150/1, last of 6 in maiden at Newcastle (10.2f) 33 days ago. Has yet to offer much but bred to be suited by this sort of test and she's in good hands so interesting what the market makes of her on handicap debut.
10th (12) (125/1 -213%) Blaker |
125/1(-213%) | (12) Blaker 125/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 150/1, last of 9 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 10 days ago. Significant step up in trip needs to bring about marked improvement if she's to figure here.
11th (6) (25/1 +24%) Oskar |
25/1(+24%) | (6) Oskar 25/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Last of 5 in handicap at Newcastle (8f, 25/1) 21 days ago. Significantly up in trip.
12th (11) (100/1 -300%) Kerpow |
100/1(-300%) | (11) Kerpow 100/1, Thrice-raced maiden who again showed little when last of 7 in novice event at Redcar (9f, soft) in October, weakening early in the straight. Does at least now get a crack at handicaps up in trip so worth a precautionary check in the betting. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
This presents PHILOS with a good chance to get off the mark if he can cope with the switch back to turf. The gelding was keen on his latest outing but his stamina is more proven than most, which could be a vital asset here. Others to consider are Stelios and Oskar, who are open to improvement over this distance, while Wilpena Pound is noted on debut for a new yard.
This looks decidedly trappy and the betting is likely to prove a good guide. TEN BOB NOTE displayed only minor promise in a trio of novice events last term but now gets his first crack at handicaps (also been gelded) and could well take a step forward. Edwina Sheeran and Philos are others to consider, whilst market support for Spare Rib and Wadacre Inca would also look significant.
Roger Fell's EDWINA SHEERAN posted a good fourth at Southwell and can return from a break in style, with first-time cheekpieces a plus.

1st (2) (6.5/1 -18%) Miss Calculation |
6.5/1(-18%) | (2) Miss Calculation 6.5/1, Doubled career tally at Wolverhampton (7f) in January and not had things go right either start since, twice short of room when sixth of 9 in handicap back at that venue 3 weeks ago. Not one to write off from this mark returned to turf.
2nd (7) (5/1 +38%) Revoquable |
5/1(+38%) | (7) Revoquable 5/1, Bit below form sixth of 11 in handicap (7/1) at Southwell (8.1f) 46 days ago, headed approaching final 1f and weakening. 1 lb below last winning mark but she does need to prove her effectiveness on ground softer than good.
3rd (10) (4/1 +33%) Lockdown Lass |
4/1(+33%) | (10) Lockdown Lass 4/1, One win from 23 Flat runs. 13/2, tenth of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f) in November, weakening 1f out. Absent subsequently but she has gone well fresh previously and rider takes off handy 5 lb here.
4th (1) (6.5/1 -8%) Martin's Brig |
6.5/1(-8%) | (1) Martin's Brig 6.5/1, Three wins from 12 runs last year. Latest win at Southwell in December. 9/1, good second of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (8f) 43 days ago. Underfoot conditions no problem and he's one to consider.
5th (11) (33/1 -32%) Billy Wedge |
33/1(-32%) | (11) Billy Wedge 33/1, Seventeen runs since last win in 2021. 22/1, eighth of 13 in handicap at Newcastle (7.1f) in November, weakening over 1f out. Absent/undergone wind surgery since and others make greater appeal.
6th (9) (8/1 +20%) Tea Garden |
8/1(+20%) | (9) Tea Garden 8/1, 7/1, respectable sixth of 12 in minor event at Lingfield (8f, AW) 73 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Needs to build on that returned to this shorter trip.
7th (6) (8.5/1 -31%) Enderman |
8.5/1(-31%) | (6) Enderman 8.5/1, One win from 28 Flat runs. Seventh of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (6f, 4/1) 45 days ago. Can give a good account without posing serious threat to principals.
8th (5) (10/1 -100%) Jackmeister Rudi |
10/1(-100%) | (5) Jackmeister Rudi 10/1, Good fourth of 9 in handicap (11/2) at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 10 days ago, deserving of extra credit having made his ground widest of all. Not ruled out returned to turf with underfoot conditions holding no fears.
9th (3) (7/1 +30%) Brunello Breeze |
7/1(+30%) | (3) Brunello Breeze 7/1, Eighth of 11 in handicap (20/1) at Redcar (10f, good to soft) in October, outpaced 3f out and no threat after. However, did produce best effort to date on his seasonal bow last term so certainly no forlorn hope with Ben Curtis an eye-catching booking.
10th (4) (33/1 -50%) Rain Cap |
33/1(-50%) | (4) Rain Cap 33/1, Three wins from 15 runs last year. Ninth of 14 in handicap at Newcastle (7.1f) in October, weakening over 1f out. Possible he will need this on back of 5 months off.
11th (8) (12/1 +0%) Liberty Breeze |
12/1(+0%) | (8) Liberty Breeze 12/1, 12/1, 11 lengths tenth of 14 to Martin's Brig in handicap at Southwell (7.1f) in December, weakening when hampered over 1f out. Absent since but she's not out of things returned to turf now operating just 1 lb above last winning mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
A fiendishly wide-open contest, in which it might pay dividends to side with JACKMEISTER RUDI. The son of Churchill has been running with credit on the all-weather of late, but he should relish the return to turf. He's now 4lb lower than when a good second on soft ground at Catterick in October and a relatively low draw could further aid his chances. Others to note include Martin's Brig, Enderman, and Rain Cap.
Plenty in with a shout and it could just be worth chancing LOCKDOWN LASS. She wasn't at her best on all weather late last year but did run well following a break last spring and with her rider taking off a handy 5 lb, she could bounce back. Martin's Brig and Jackmeister Rudi are others to consider, along with Miss Calculation.
This can go to MISS CALCULATION back on turf, perhaps at the chief expense of Martin's Brig.

2nd (6) (6/1 +63%) Makalu |
6/1(+63%) | (6) Makalu 6/1, Course winner. 28/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, last of 8 in handicap at Carlisle (5.8f, good). Off 7 months. Back up in trip.
3rd (5) (8/1 -23%) Little Ted |
8/1(-23%) | (5) Little Ted 8/1, Unreliable type. Course winner. Ninth of 13 in handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f, 11/2). Off 144 days. Down in trip. Has good chance on pick of form.
4th (4) (2.75/1 +8%) Darbucks |
2.75/1(+8%) | (4) Darbucks 2.75/1, Dual winner (at up to 8f) in 2022 and posted brace of creditable efforts on AW this year, latest when fourth of 9 in handicap (15/2) at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 22 days ago. Shortlisted.
5th (8) (5/1 +9%) Spartakos |
5/1(+9%) | (8) Spartakos 5/1, Bagged a Catterick minor event (7f) last summer and ended campaign with creditable second of 9 in handicap at same course (6f, heavy). Merits consideration.
6th (1) (6.5/1 +0%) Positive Force |

9th (2) (16/1 -45%) Muddy Lynn |
16/1(-45%) | (2) Muddy Lynn 16/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Last of 5 in minor event (18/1) at this course (5f, soft). Off 6 months. Significantly up in trip. Work to do on handicap debut.
10th (9) (66/1 -267%) Kittybrewster |
66/1(-267%) | (9) Kittybrewster 66/1, 14/1, below form fifth of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 90 days ago. Others preferred. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
HOOTS TOOTS was in good form when last seen, notching up a brace of victories at Southwell, and the latest of those came off a 5lb lower mark. He showed promise on turf last year and the son of Outstrip might have more to offer after a 194-day break. Spartakos is only 1lb higher than when finishing a good second at Catterick in October and, with conditions to suit, he should be on the premises. Darbucks can chase them home.
Preference is for DARBUCKS, who has run well in both starts this year and is back on his last winning mark. Hoots Toots and Spartakos can also make their presence felt.
There is a fitness query but HOOTS TOOTS (nap) was going the right way in the autumn and should have another good year.

5.5/1(-10%) | (5) Holly Blackmore 5.5/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 22/1, third of 6 in handicap at Chelmsford City (5f) 61 days ago, doing better under change of tactics. Needs to build on that now making turf debut.
5th (2) (11/1 -83%) Fortunate Star |
11/1(-83%) | (2) Fortunate Star 11/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Third of 6 in maiden at Hamilton (5f, good, 9/1) in September, needing stiffer test. Off 6 months. Absent since but remains the type to do better now handicapping. Yard also saddle Teresa Grace.

3.5/1(-27%) | (6) Debydinks 3.5/1, 7/1, creditable second of 11 in handicap at Newcastle (5f) 20 days ago, going on under 2f out and collared well inside final 1f. A repeat returned to turf should see him thereabouts again.
8th (7) (5.5/1 +39%) Mystical Dreams |
5.5/1(+39%) | (7) Mystical Dreams 5.5/1, 18/1, eighth of 11 in handicap at Newcastle (5f) 20 days ago, effort over 2f out and weakening. Needs to step up again if she's to figure back on turf.
9th (1) (14/1 -133%) Bedazzling |
14/1(-133%) | (1) Bedazzling 14/1, Winner at Chelmsford (6f) in November who ran best race to date when third in 14-runner Newcastle handicap in December. Below best at first-named venue thereafter and changed hands for just 1,500 gns since. Still, not dismissed for new yard. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
HOLLY BLACKMORE was far from disgraced at Chelmsford in February, where she finished a creditable third despite racing freely. The daughter of Kessaar is bred to be much better than a mark of 49 and she could take a step forward now racing on turf for the first time. Bedazzling merits respect on her stable debut, along with Mystical Dreams, who has dropped to an attractive mark. Teresa Grace should not be underestimated either.
DEBYDINKS again went close to breaking his duck when runner-up at Newcastle 3 weeks ago and in the hope underfoot conditions don't prove an issue, he could be up to getting off the mark. Teresa Grace, Cheyenne Nation and Fortunate Star head up the dangers.
Having finished a good third on her handicap debut at Chelmsford, HOLLY BLACKMORE is selected to win this weak sprint handicap.

A facile winner over this trip at Leicester on his most recent outing in October, it could be worth siding with FEN TIGER on his return from a break. He has gone up 5lb for the aforementioned success, but the fact that Frederick Larson negates most of that rise courtesy of his 3lb claim must make the five-year-old of significant interest. Marbuzet and Victoriano are the main dangers.
C&D winner FEN TIGER had a fine campaign last year and returns on a workable mark. He gets the nod in a tricky-looking handicap. Poster Child and Purple Ice should also go well.
A chance is taken on the fitness of POSTER CHILD, who was competitive in all her three runs for this yard last season.

Runner-up at Southwell on his most recent start, Freedom Flyer can have a big say in proceedings back on turf, but it could be worth taking a chance on ZOOM STAR. Although she disappointed on the all-weather in January, she is rated just 1lb above her last winning turf mark which came over this trip at Catterick in October. Rockley Point is another who cannot be dismissed.
TANTASTIC has been given a chance by the handicapper and arrives on the back of a good fourth in a stronger contest at Doncaster. He gets the nod in the finale. Freedom Flyer and Astapor head the list of dangers.
Roger Fell's PRIMO scored three times last term and didn't enjoy the rub of the green at Newcastle last time, so he gets the vote.
Ths is the racecard key.
